The Best Airline Credit Cards of 2015

Earn credit card points toward free airfare and travel

This year, I decided to take a fresh approach to the best airline credit cards. With rising fares and falling oil, no one knows the future for air travel prices, but these cards will still offer you great sign-up bonuses and the ability to earn air miles in your frequent flier program to put towards free flights. Some airline credit cards offer additional perks and benefits, like companion fares, priority boarding, and free bags.

I still don’t believe you should own an airline card as your primary credit card (see my rules for owning an airline credit card below). Before choosing an airline card from this list, make sure you set yourself up with an all around best rewards travel credit card.

Here is the top travel credit card to consider (I share all the best airline cards just below):

The reason you should choose a more general travel card is that airline cards are great for specific purchases on one airline, but not so great for all other purchases. In many cases, the rewards rate for using an airline card on your favorite airline isn’t higher than if you used a travel rewards card for the exact same purchase (2x points or miles per dollar spent).

Then, if you re not traveling ALL the time I d add on the Chase Freedom® Card before adding an airline card. The Freedom® has no annual fee, and its points are transferrable to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, so you can add them together and maximize the travel benefits.

Going with this strategy, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card allows you to earn 2x points on all travel, plus dining purchases where your airline card can’t. In most cases, going with one of these cards is your best bet, unless you fly on only one airline and fly often. If you don t fall into this category, think about getting a more flexible travel rewards credit card first.

Table of Contents

The Simple Dollar’s Top Airline Credit Card Picks

Because we view airlines cards as secondary, I wanted to show you a variety of cards, from the major airlines on down to smaller regionals. My goals was to show you what some of the top benefits are of specific airline cards so you can decide if an airlines card is really right for you.

Here are the 5 best airline credit cards:

While there are fewer airline cards to consider in comparison to overall rewards cards, choosing the top airline credit cards is difficult. The choice is much more individualized, as the best airline credit card depends on your preferences, location and choice of airline.

Earning rewards is less about the airline credit card itself and more about the combination of the card with the airline s frequent flyer program.

The best airline credit cards compete with one another by offering unique card membership features. Listed below is a collection of standout features taken from all of the airline credit cards on the market:

  • Big signup bonuses
  • 2X miles or more for airline purchases
  • Yearly companion fares
  • Many travel perks
  • High flight availability or several travel partners
  • Opportunities to earn additional rewards

What to Consider Before Getting An Airline Credit Card

Here are my basic rules for getting an airline credit card:

  1. You are loyal to one airline.
  2. You fly more than five times per year.
  3. You have no problem occasionally paying more for airfare.
  4. You will take advantage of companion fares.
  5. You own or plan on owning an all-around rewards credit card for purchases away from the airline. (This is very important.)
  6. You always pay your balance on time.

Make sure an airline credit card isn t the only credit card you own.

Personally, I don t think you should own an airline credit card without owning a top rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. This card gets you the same rewards rate on travel as most of the airline credit cards, plus you get the 2X rate on dining as well.

Rewards aren t the only thing that matters for airline credit cards.

I mentioned the importance of maximizing the value of an airline credit card, but there are other ways these cards offer value in addition to rewards. While rewards are still the most important factor, the perks and benefits from airline credit cards should not be overlooked.

The Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express

The Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express gives you the flexibility of flying and saving with the largest airline in North America. You can earn 30,000 bonus miles after you make $1,000 in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months and a consistent rewards earning potential, this card is a great option for frequent travelers.

One of the best features of this card is the Crossover Rewards program Delta has with Starwood hotels. When you register for this program you can double dip on points by earning Delta Skymiles and Starpoints when you book a Delta flight. The same is true when you book a Starwood Hotels stay. If you travel frequently, it could really pay to pair the Gold Delta Skymiles® Credit Card from American Express with the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express. one of my picks for best hotel credit cards .

Becoming an Independent Travel Agent #cancun #travel

#becoming a travel agent

Becoming an Independent Travel Agent

An independent travel agent has her own at-home business. He works full-time or part-time. The travel agent partners with a host agency and earns commissions for all travel packages and deals sold. But before a person can join a host travel agency he must learn about the tourism and the travel industry. This is accomplished by going to travel school. In addition to learning about exotic destinations and different cultures, a student also learns how to make travel arrangements for tourist groups, families and businesspeople. After receiving proper training, he joins a host agency and becomes an independent travel agent.

Step 1

Go to travel agent school. There are numerous colleges and universities that offer degrees in tourism or certificates in becoming a travel agent. Programs range from classroom work, to correspondence study to online courses. The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) has a list of member travel schools. The ASTA is a trade association that offers invaluable information about travel and tourism for those employed in the industry. Being trained as a travel agent is not mandatory, but it is very useful in becoming a travel agent. In travel school you learn reservation, sell travel packages, and market your business as an independent travel agent. The minimum level of education you need is high school diploma or its equivalent.

Step 2

Get certified. You submit an application to get accreditation as a travel agent via the International Air Transport Association (IATA), one of the leading organizations offering membership and accreditation to U.S. travel professionals. Getting an official IATA Certificate of Accreditation will not only help you gain valuable knowledge about the industry, but it will also give you solid credibility.

Step 3

Go on some travel excursions. Once of the best ways to become a great travel agent is to travel. Having the experience of airplane travel, getting to the hotel and visiting the most famous places are a great way to learn about the customer side of the travel business.

Step 4

Acquire basic computer skills. Computers are an important part of being a travel agent. Reservations are made on computers, contact is frequently done by email, and research about destination is done online. Knowing basic computer skills including word processing and spreadheets are useful skills to have.

Step 5

Learn a second language. As more people travel to foreign locations or immigrate to new countries, the number of languages spoken in any city increases. By being bilingual or even trilingual, you can not only increase your customer base, but offer more international travel locations.

Step 6

Join a host agency. The best route to becoming an independent travel agent is to join a host travel agency. These are many host agencies you can join, but it is usually best to join one that is accredited by the International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN).and/or the Airlines Reporting Commission (ARC). Each host agency operates a little differently, but most require you to pay a fee that can range from a few hundred to a few thousands dollars. You will also need to set up your website. Once you have completing the application process you can start working as an independent travel agent. Some host agencies also offer training programs to help new members get started. You make money from commission earned from people booking hotels, airline reservations and vacation packages on your website.

Step 7

Market yourself as a travel agent. Once the website is set up, you need to find customers and get traffic to your site. Guerilla Marketing is an advanced form of marketing techniques. There are many books on the subject with numerous ideas on how to market your travel business. There are print and online classified advertising, article marketing, flyers and word of mouth. As you build traffic to your site you will grow your business as an independent travel agent.

Best & Less Travel in Parramatta, Sydney, NSW, Travel Agents –

#best and less travel

Reviews of Best & Less Travel

Hi Guys,

Avoid booking anything with this agency!!

I booked mine and my wife’s tickets from Best and less travel parramatta. We have travelled quite a bit and booked through many agents but this was absolutely the worst experience we had.

After reaching airport, we were told our ticket is not valid. They had put some wrong details in the ticket. When i called them I was told to wait for couple of minutes and the management staff would call in couple of minutes. After waiting for abt 15 mins I called up again. When I explained the problem. the first thing I was told was “Please come back. we will try to get you to tomorrow’s flight. It is not our fault. The airline might be doing this coz the flight is full”. After arguing for a while they asked me to handover the phone to the customer service staff of the airline only to offend the staff so much that they denied to offer any help as they talked rudely to the staff. I was again assured they would call back in couple of minutes but that never happened.I had to call them again after about 20 minutes and I was told they would be calling shortly. By this time we were already with in an hour of flight time and the boarding had already started.

Every time I called their office, I had to go through IVR then waiting coz they are attending to others and every time a different person picked the call and I had to explain the issue from the start. When the management staff finally called abt 45 mins before flight I asked them if I can get their mobile and they replied “No”. I told them it’s so critical and takes me about 10 mins of wait to get to you via IVR but that didn’t convince them. I was told by their staff “We can’t give their number”.

Finally after requesting the airline staff multiple times my wife finally checked in 33 minutes prior to the flight time with absolutely no help from best and less travel.

The worst part of all of it was they were not apologetic in any way, if anything they were rude. They did not even bother to call me and check if the issue was resolved. It’s been more than a month since this happened and they have not bothered to apologise even once on phone or mail. The way they handled all of it was far from being polite.

The prices they offered were not exclusive and the service was absolutely worst. So if u guys are planning to book through them think twice as you might be in any sort of trouble due to their unprofessionalism and you can be rest assured they won’t be of any assistance whatsoever. They would make the matter worse if anything as they did in my case.

I would definitely never book via them even if they offered me half price.

Anyone used? Phuket Forum #flights #and #hotels

anyone used

This type of special deal is exactly why I used last time. I check their site every few weeks, and they have these specials every now and then. It s not a mistake, but there may not be a whole lot of rooms at that price. I ve noticed other sites (eg often come down to their price in the next few weeks after seeing the special deal. I figure they must all check each others prices, or get offered the same deal from the Hotel. Didn t happen last time, no one even came close, so I just booked with hoteltravel. Very happy. If it s what you are after, just book it.

Seems to be a lot of good prices floating around at the moment. It could be the current political trouble in Thailand. The Hotel owners may be scared of suddenly having no cash flow if things get out of hand in Bangkok. Happened last time too.

Hoteltravel have a price match guarantee if anyone else beats the price (good luck with that, they didn t do it the one time I tried, said they didn t get my email. ).

Bath Travel Tips from Rail Europe #travel #weather

    #bath travel

    A Meticulously Preserved Roman Spa-t

There s a lot to love about London. And there s a lot to be said about leaving London for the quiet of the countryside. In just over an hour by train, come visit a spa town that is so rich in history, it s one of only two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the region. And while you no longer can sit in the thermal, curative waters of Bath, you ll still leave refreshed and renewed.

Bath features both Georgian architecture, a perfectly preserved Roman temple and spa and Britain s only natural hot springs. Cross the Pulteney Bridge designed after the covered bridges of Florence over the river Avon to the Roman Baths where centurions soaked their warrior aches away.

Bath is ranked as one of the most visited towns in England. Soak up all that this lovely town has to offer by purchasing the Bath City Hop-On,Hop-Off Sightseeing Tour ; a 24 hour hop on hop off sightseeing tour. Let the bus climb those famous British rolling hills while you decide which of the local offerings you want to take a closer look at. Like the gorgeous Royal Victoria Gardens. Opened in 1830 as a breathing space for the occupants of these very dreary localities, today there s nothing dreary about the surroundings. Overlooking the Royal Crescent, this park offers something for everyone a golf course, tennis court and the largest playground in the area, perfect for the kids.

Another family favorite is a visit to mysterious, ethereal Stonehenge. Now thought to be an ancient burial ground, these prehistoric, circular stones have dazzled travelers for years. Take the requisite photos of trying to knock one of these mammoth structures over. You can visit both Bath and Stonehenge, plus tour the 900-year-old Windsor Castle on our appropriately named Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge Tour. These bus tours leave daily from London and while you may not be doing much strolling you ll get a great overview of what this beautiful region of England has to offer.

With your BritRail England Pass. go further into the southwest corner of England for more quintessential British charm. In the Cotswolds. homes look like they could be made out of gingerbread on this rolling countryside. The word wolds actually means gentle hills. And that s exactly what you ll find. This lovely landscape has inspired artists and writers, including John Singer Sargent and Henry James.

Bath and the rest of this region are filled with history and majesty. Quaintness you can quantify. It s not London. But it s just as easy to love.

    Aus travel #travel #world

    #aus travel

    a village in Namibia

This tranquil little desert town is situated 125km east of Luderitz and the name means ‘out’ in German, but may be derived from a Khoi-Khoi word which means the ‘place of the snakes’. Aus is tucked between the folds of several hills, and if you’ve ventured this far, then the chances are you’re on the way to the coast.

After the German surrender to South African troops in World War I, Aus became an internment camp for German military officers. As many as 1,550 prisoners were held at Aus. and the towns population was further boosted by around 600 South African guards.

The railway to Luderitz stops here, as some years ago the continual struggle to keep the line clear of the Namib Desert sand was abandoned, and in places the line is now covered by massive dunes. One of the major attractions of the area around Aus is the Namib Feral Horses. They are the world’s only wild desert-dwelling horses and theories as to their origin are many. A logical favourite is that they were descended from German Schutztruppe cavalry horses abandoned during the South African invasion of 1915. Another is that they were brought by Nama raiders moving north from beyond the Orange River, whilst a third claims they’re descended from a load of ship-wrecked horses en-route from Europe to Australia. More local (and believable), is the story they’ve been bred from the stud stock of Baron Captain Hans-Heinrich von Wolf, the owner of Duwisib Castle. Wolfy famously set off for Germany in search of more horses, but came to a sticky end in battle in France.

These bony and scruffy looking beasts, can be seen on most Namibian safaris which visit the area. Whatever story you choose to believe, (if any) then look out for them grazing on the either side of the road on the way to Luderitz. Alternatively, stop at the hide and waterhole, 100km east of Luderitz, at Garup Pan, fed by an artificial bore hole.

If you intend to visit Aus and need somewhere to stay, then look no further than the recently refurbished Bahnhof Hotel, Eagles Nest Lodge, or The Desert Horse Inn. They are all located either in or no further than 2km from Aus, and are the ideal stopover destinations when heading to or from Luderitz.

    BAD travel Agent – Singapore Forum #travel #distance #calculator

    #super travel

    BAD travel Agent

Do NOT book from SUPER TRAVELS! I book a tour with them and paid $1000 for 2 to Perth only to be told that they cannot find hotels for me. I told them to find any hotels and say I don t mind topping up the money. They told me to wait for 5 days and after I called after 5 days, they ask me to wait another few days! It is like less than a month to my tour date. I asked for a refund and I was told to wait for 2 weeks. There is always a penalty when a customer pull out of a tour booking and that penalty is based on the number of days to the tour date, then why is that tour agencies can get away with it when they have accepted a booking by a customer and yet not deliver it when it is less than a month to the tour date?

Super Travel is ONLY good for booking of Coach to KL. THAT ALL

Going to perth? U should be able to plan the whole trip urself, using the ever efficient Internet Portal.

S$1000 for 2? That s for 4day 3nite? And does it cover any tours? Which month would that be for? If it covers Tours During a Peak Period, that could explain why Super Travel cannot book any Hotel for U, cos they prolly under quote U ^___^.

The last time I did most of Perth (Self-Planned) 7Day 6 Nite, I spend only S$1250 travelling on SQ (slightly off peak with Airticket + Hotel + Guided Tour == All booked separately). Aussie is very easy, U dun even need those travel agency to do the booking nowadays.

In ur case, if U have not manage to get Super to refund U in Full, I would advise U to make a report with NATAS, so that if Super were to penalise U later for cancellation, U got a backup for it is their inability to deliver their service with the constant delay, which could have let U replan the whole trip.

Bangkok Travel Agencies – Bangkok Forum #travel #vacations

    #cheap travel agents

    Bangkok Travel Agencies

No, its a place to avoid making travel arrangements due to the common scams, etc. Use a decent travel agent in another part of the city, or even better do it yourself. All the domestic airlines can be booked online, and there are lots of reliable hotel booking services like,, and others.

The only time I read or hear about problems with travel agencies are those in the Khao San Road area. It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the whole barrel.

In over a dozen years I have never had a problem with a travel agency providing what I paid for. But none of those travel agencies were in the KSR area. Most of the travel agencies I used for myself and booking tours for arriving friend were in the Sukhumvit area or in Pattaya .

For train rides you can book those in person at the train station during your first few days seeing Bangkok. You can also buy your bus tickets at local bus stations for long distance travel.

For plane tickets I have used Business Inn on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 several times.

Are you looking for one company to book hotels and flights or just a ride to some hotel you previously booked online or with a simple phone call when in Bangkok?

    Australia Expedition

With roughly the population of metropolitan New York City and the landmass of the continental United States, Australia is the most sparsely populated continent on the planet after Antarctica. Its isolation for millennia allowed unique ecosystems and cultures to thrive. Explore rain forests, deserts, and the world’s largest coral reef, observing and documenting fascinating wildlife along the way. Meet members of the Aboriginal community— the world’s oldest living culture—which settled here more than 50,000 years ago. Experience Australia through the lens of your On Assignment project: Photography or Wildlife Biodiversity.

The expedition begins with an orientation in the vibrant coastal city of Sydney. Break into teams to begin working on your On Assignment project. Browse a photo exhibition at the State Library of New South Wales, explore the lively Rocks district, and take in spectacular views of the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Attend a game of rugby or Australian rules football, or go surfing at Manly Beach. Meet your first koalas and kangaroos at the famous Taronga Zoo, or visit the Sydney Aquarium to get acquainted with the marine life you will encounter on the Great Barrier Reef.

    Uluru and the Outback

    Days 6-10

Fly from Sydney to Alice Springs and begin your journey through the Outback towards the largest monolith on Earth, Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock). Steeped in mythology, this colossal piece of sandstone rises abruptly from the desert plain. Trek between the giant rounded domes of the adjacent Kata Tjuta on the lookout for bright green ring-necked parrots. Visit an Aboriginal community at Wallace Rockhole for a guided tour through ancestral lands, and learn about the traditional craft of dot painting before trying your hand at the art form. Plunge into the cool and refreshing waters of the Ellery Big Hole, examine ancient rock art and medicinal plants, and listen to Dreamtime stories told by our Aboriginal guides. Through the lens of your camera, use the barren landscape to practice working with depth of field, and spotting dingoes, red kangaroos, and majestic wedge- tailed eagles that inhabit this otherwise still scene. Set up camp in the bush, help collect firewood and prepare dinner, and sleep under the stars. Spot the Southern Cross and Scorpio, and learn a whole new set of Southern Hemisphere constellations.

Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef

    Days 11-20

I loved visiting such a wide variety of environments—from the outback to Sydney to the reef to the rain forest— and had such unique experiences in each one.

    Heather M. Australia, 2015

Fly to the northern Queensland city of Cairns, and transfer to Port Douglas, our hub for exploring the Great Barrier Reef. Set out on a private boat for a two-day snorkeling adventure with marine biologists. Anchor at the outer reef and snorkel along brilliant fields of coral. Spot sea turtles, giant parrotfish, harmless reef sharks, and maybe even a migrating humpback whale. Gain insights about the reef from the marine biologists on board, and learn about the threats to this unique ecosystem and the efforts being made to protect it.

Back on land, head north into the 125 million-year-old Daintree Rainforest. Hike through the lush vegetation to see cassowaries, crocodiles, tree kangaroos, and other endemic wildlife. Spend the night in a jungle lodge and encounter the native species of the surrounding rain forest, wetlands, and reef.

Wind down on the coastal side of the park on the white-sand beaches of Cape Tribulation. Explore a mangrove habitat where the jungle meets the ocean and kayak along the reef. Trek out to the farthest point of the cape in search of whales and other marine life passing by. Return to Cairns for the final night and present your On Assignment project to the rest of the group. Celebrate your adventure with your fellow participants before flying home.

Latest update: Summary and terrorism sections – the Australian government has changed its national terrorism threat advisory system and the current threat level is ‘probable’; Natural disasters section – the New South Wales rural fire service has a useful ‘fires near me’ app

Over 670,000 British nationals visit Australia every year. Most visits are trouble-free.

Australia is a vast country. You should plan journeys carefully, particularly if you’re travelling to remote areas, bushwalking or going swimming. See Local travel

Australia is prone to seasonal natural disasters including tropical cyclones, flash flooding, dust storms and bushfires (forest fires). Tropical Cyclones occur, mainly in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia between November and April. You should monitor the progress of approaching storms and follow the advice of the local authorities. See Natural Disasters .

You will need to get a visa before you travel. See Entry requirements

Beware of scam adverts claiming to help you extend a working holiday visa. Several British nationals have had their visas cancelled as a result. See Entry requirements.

There is a high threat from terrorism. On 26 November, the Australian government changed its national terrorism threat advisory system. Australia’s current national terrorism threat level is ’probable’. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. See Terrorism.

Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel. Make sure this covers you for all activities you plan to do while in Australia, including manual labour if you’re backpacking; and adventure sports like bungee jumping, diving and paragliding.

The Overseas Business Risk service offers information and advice for British companies operating overseas on how to manage political, economic, and business security-related risks.

Arebbusch Travel Lodge (Windhoek, Namibia) – Hotel Reviews #chicago #travel

    #travel lodge deals

    Washington DC, District of Columbia

We stayed here for two nights upon arriving in Windhoek. Check in was fast even though we arrived late at night. They had someone drove us to our room (we weren’t able to pick up our car until the next day).

Each building consists of 4 rooms, each with its own parking spot for your car next to the room, at least for the standard room. We stayed in a standard room, which is of moderate size. The shower and sink are part of the room. There is no door to separate it from the bed area. There is a shower curtain, so you do get a little privacy while showering. The toilet is in its own small room. The room itself was fairly clean.

There is the standard hotel furniture inside the room: desk, chair, small fridge, tv, and a wardrobe/closet. The air conditioning worked fine, which was good because it was on the hot side during the day (30 C/85 F or higher) when we were there. The entrance to the room is a glass sliding door. So not your typical hotel room door. There is a patio like area in front of the glass door for each of the room that has a picnic table and bench. WiFi was ok. They do have a couple of computers in the Square that you can use.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant and is ok. We ate dinner there once and the food was ok. Price was reasonable.

The location is ok. Not too far (several km/miles) from our car rental place, grocery store, etc. However, it would still be best to have a car to get around since there are no sidewalks. Even though it’s close to Eros airport, the loudest noises we encountered when we were there were of speeding cars on the road next to our room. And even then it was only once in awhile. There are guards at the entrance to this lodge so no worry about anyone breaking into your car. Though we didn’t have that problem anywhere in Namibia.

You can stay in nicer rooms in the Square, where you do get access to a nicer swimming pool. But unless that is important to you, I think the standard room is more than sufficient.

The staff was nice and helpful.

Overall I enjoyed our stay here. I think it’s a great place to stay before you explore Namibia. Especially if you are heading south first.

    Audley Travel Reviews #travel #package

    #audley travel

    An honest review.

I have been working at Audley Travel full-time (More than a year)

I ve been with Audley for a year and I think I ve settled in now. I m non-sales which is very different to sales. So here goes, PROS: -I think its really good that managers are happy to just walk over and talk to you whilst your at your desk – rather than just email pinging! -Really well thought through socials – family friendly ones as well to tie in with the culture -I feel as if I have all the support I need – my line manager is great, and all of my higher managers are always around -The training is always ongoing, and I ve been sent on courses to allow for further development. -Amazing offices – All information including figures etc is shared throughout the company – Company does lots of community/ charity work off location

ok, CONS: Long hours – we do 39.5 hrs a week as a minimum, and I dont think this is taken into consideration sometimes. – I feel sometimes non-sales are forgotten about with incentives that are run internally – Having to be brand aware all the time. However one thing I will say is, that I knew that would be the case when I started. – working with a hangover – all our socials are on a Thursday.

Very mis-leading particularly to those who have previous travel experience!

ATCO Sells Travel Business to Maritime Travel

Ensures long-term growth for travel business

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwire – Sept. 1, 2010) – ATCO Ltd. today announced it has completed the sale of ATCO Travel’s assets to Maritime Travel Inc. one of Canada’s largest independently owned travel agency groups. The decision to sell ATCO Travel’s assets was the result of a strategic business review in which ATCO concluded this business would be better served by an owner focused solely on the travel business.

“After a very thorough assessment of our options, we believe our customers will benefit from Maritime Travel’s highly personal customer service that ATCO Travel customers have come to expect,” said Bob Myles, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development Planning, ATCO Group. “In addition, Maritime Travel represents an excellent opportunity for our people to join a Canadian-based company focused on growth in the travel industry.”

Based in Halifax, Maritime Travel will now employ almost 400 people with locations in New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. Maritime Travel has been named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies each year for the past 12 years, and has been a member of the prestigious Platinum Club for the past six years – the only travel company to be so honoured.

“ATCO Travel has been in business for more than 30 years and has an excellent reputation for quality service,” said Gary Gaudry, President, Maritime Travel Inc. “The addition of ATCO Travel’s assets will increase our scale and enhance our market penetration in Western Canada. This is a win-win for our people and our customers.”

Maritime Travel is acquiring all the assets of ATCO Travel, including current contracts and employees. In addition, the ATCO Group of Companies will be using Maritime Travel for its travel needs.

Alberta-based ATCO Ltd. with more than 7,500 employees and assets of approximately $9.9 billion, delivers service excellence and innovative business solutions worldwide with leading companies engaged in Utilities (pipelines, natural gas and electricity transmission and distribution), Energy (power generation, natural gas gathering, processing, storage and liquids extraction), Structures Logistics (manufacturing, logistics and noise abatement) and Technologies (business systems solutions). More information can be found at .

    About Maritime Travel

Since opening in 1949, Maritime Travel has grown to be one of Canada’s largest independent travel companies specializing in both business and leisure travel. With the acquisition of the assets of ATCO Travel, Maritime Travel has 91 locations coast to coast, employing just under 400 people, with travel sales in excess of $230 million. Around the World With Kids – Intelligent Travel #weather #travel

    #around the world travel

    Around the World With Kids

The Davis family poses for a group photo in the Thar Desert. (Photograph by Heather Greenwood Davis)

It sounds like such a romantic notion: Leaving everything behind but the family you’ve created together and heading out to see the world.

And in many ways, the trip I took with my husband, Ish, and our two sons, Ethan (then 8) and Cameron (then 6), was exactly that.

And in so many ways it wasn’t.

Our around-the-world-trip was not borne out of well-thought-out planning or a “budgeting to the penny” lifestyle. We were simply a young family struggling under the weight of routine and obligation. We wanted something different. And we went out into the world to find it.

When you become a parent, routine is your salvation. Our kids needed to be trained to sleep, to eat, to talk. There were social norms they had to learn early so they could grow up to be “model citizens.” All the rule-following and conventions didn’t often come naturally, but soon enough I had two little people who did exactly as they were told.

Except, that wasn’t who we wanted to raise.

My husband grew up in a downtown housing project in Toronto. where his world was confined to a 24-block radius. At the same time, on the other end of town, I was growing up in a pampered suburb. As a child my family traveled farther than his hitting spots across Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean but our trips were almost always to visit friends or family. Ish and I knew we wanted more for our kids.

As our passion for travel grew, we took trips farther afield. Road trips across North

America led to a month-long trip across Southeast Asia and eventually to Peru. The more we saw, the more we wanted to see.

And as the kids began to join us on travels, we couldn’t help but wonder what kind of people could they become if they grew up thinking of the world as their neighborhood. How would it change them if they knew more about a place than that a tsunami had hit it or that people there were “poor?” How would it change their lives to have a friend in Thailand, or Cairo, or Paris? Who could they become if their eyes were opened now, as kids, before they started believing the stereotypes they saw all around them?

    We wanted to find out.

And so in June 2011, we set out for one year of seeing all we could. We left home with one bag each, a list of countries we’d try to get to, and only a few plane tickets and fixed dates in mind. The plan was to abandon our routines: We’d sleep when we were tired and wake when our bodies told us to. We d eat when we were hungry, not when the lunch bell rang. We would focus all of our energy on each other, our experiences, and the people in the places we were visiting.

It was a magical year. Kids who could barely swim when we left were suddenly confident enough to jump into (seemingly) bottomless lakes in Thailand, a place where their curiosity led them to street-side checker matches with men three times their age and had them pointing out Canada on a map to orphans half their age.

As parents, we were tested with questions we couldn’t answer (“But why would anyone make them slaves, mommy?” in Zanzibar, and “So she’ll never leave Vietnam, ever?” in Mui Ne), and rewarded with a chance to bear daily witness as our children grew. Soon we had kids who never questioned women in burkas or men in sarongs because they understood that “that’s just the way they do things here.”

For our family, it was a year of transformative joy. Without the confines of soccer schedules and school days, we found each other again and again in the Thar Desert. in the Valley of the Kings. on the river Nile. We held hands more, four of us across or two by two. We climbed on the backs of camels and elephants and ostriches. We sailed on zip-lines, crammed into packed buses, and rocked along in overnight trains in China. We traveled with our eyes wide open and came home with the memories firmly imprinted on our brains.

And as it turns out, that s exactly what were were seeking: The ability to close our eyes at any moment and be there again. Just the four of us, exploring the world together.

    Apache2 Debian Default Page: It works #cheap #tickets #cheap #tickets

    #buy airline tickets

    Apache2 Debian Default Page

    It works!

This is the default welcome page used to test the correct operation of the Apache2 server after installation on Debian systems. If you can read this page, it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly. You should replace this file (located at /var/www/html/index.html ) before continuing to operate your HTTP server.

If you are a normal user of this web site and don’t know what this page is about, this probably means that the site is currently unavailable due to maintenance. If the problem persists, please contact the site’s administrator.

    Configuration Overview

Debian’s Apache2 default configuration is different from the upstream default configuration, and split into several files optimized for interaction with Debian tools. The configuration system is fully documented in /usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian.gz. Refer to this for the full documentation. Documentation for the web server itself can be found by accessing the manual if the apache2-doc package was installed on this server.

The configuration layout for an Apache2 web server installation on Debian systems is as follows:

    • apache2.conf is the main configuration file. It puts the pieces together by including all remaining configuration files when starting up the web server.
    • ports.conf is always included from the main configuration file. It is used to determine the listening ports for incoming connections, and this file can be customized anytime.
    • Configuration files in the mods-enabled/. conf-enabled/ and sites-enabled/ directories contain particular configuration snippets which manage modules, global configuration fragments, or virtual host configurations, respectively.
    • They are activated by symlinking available configuration files from their respective *-available/ counterparts. These should be managed by using our helpers a2enmod. a2dismod , a2ensite. a2dissite , and a2enconf. a2disconf . See their respective man pages for detailed information.
    • The binary is called apache2. Due to the use of environment variables, in the default configuration, apache2 needs to be started/stopped with /etc/init.d/apache2 or apache2ctl. Calling /usr/bin/apache2 directly will not work with the default configuration.

By default, Debian does not allow access through the web browser to any file apart of those located in /var/www. public_html directories (when enabled) and /usr/share (for web applications). If your site is using a web document root located elsewhere (such as in /srv ) you may need to whitelist your document root directory in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf.

The default Debian document root is /var/www/html. You can make your own virtual hosts under /var/www. This is different to previous releases which provides better security out of the box.

Please use the reportbug tool to report bugs in the Apache2 package with Debian. However, check existing bug reports before reporting a new bug.

Please report bugs specific to modules (such as PHP and others) to respective packages, not to the web server itself.

  • Amtrak Discounts: A Guide to Cheaper Train Tickets #travel #bag

    #cheap train travel

Amtrak Discounts: A Guide to Cheaper Train Tickets

Use these promo codes and dedicated links to save up to 20% on your train ticket and up to 30% on a companion fare.

    By Sascha Segan

Gas prices are headed up again, but Amtrak fares are holding steady — making our nation’s rail service a smart bet for your spring or summer getaway.

If you can plan ahead, there’s no reason to pay full price for most Amtrak tickets. Previously, you could enter promotion codes during the payment process on . You can still do that with some discounts, but most price cuts now require you to book your trip through a dedicated link. Either way, you’ll still save 15%-20% on every ticket.

We’ve found so many Amtrak discounts that we’re segmenting them by region. You’re likely to find discounts for most popular routes with two gaping exceptions: There aren’t many discounts for the east-to-west cross-country routes, and there aren’t many discounts specifically for New York City.

    Nationwide Amtrak Discounts

Before you start clicking links, make sure to check Amtrak’s Weekly Specials, on sale between Tuesday and Friday each week. These are deeply discounted fares (often up to 80% off) that can be for any train in the country. It’s a grab bag, but you might get lucky. Check them out here .

There’s an ongoing 25% discount (with a 14-day advance purchase) for Northeast Regional trains, the popular line that runs from Boston to D.C. The lower fares automatically turn up when you search, and they’re lower than most of the alternatives here. This means the alternatives are better for non-Northeast Regional trains, or for purchases between 3 and 14 days in advance.

Membership has its privileges. If you’re a senior citizen, U.S. military, or a member of AAA, Veterans’ Advantage, ISIC, Student Advantage, or the National Association of Rail Passengers, you can get a discount on Amtrak fares just by clicking the right box on Amtrak’s purchase page. High school juniors and seniors traveling with an adult can get a 50% discount by buying their tickets at . NARP doesn’t have any membership requirements beyond the $35 annual fee, and it nets you a 10% discount.

All of these deals have some blackout dates: April 22, 24 and 25, May 27, July 1-2, Sept 2. and 5, Oct. 7, Nov. 22-23, and Nov. 26-28. None of them work with the high-speed Acela Express train. And all of them require you to buy your tickets 3 days in advance, so plan ahead.

New England Amtrak Discounts (ME, MA, VT, RI, CT)

Vermont really wants people to come by train. If you’re visiting Vermont from outside the state, book here for 20% off any trip through Oct. 31. But if you’re traveling within the state, book here for a flat $12 fare on any in-state trip, through Dec. 31.

If you’re traveling on the Downeaster train between Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon/evening, you can get two tickets for the price of one by using discount code V773. That’s good through July 1, 2011. Up to two children can also ride free on that train with one paying adult if you use discount code V581 .

Massachusetts -bound travelers: For any train to Massachusetts (but not trips leaving Massachusetts) on the Downeaster, the Northeast Corridor, or the one daily train from Albany, you can get 20% off by booking here. Good for travel through Dec. 15, 2011.

For trips to/from Rhode Island. save 15% by booking here. Good for travel through Dec. 31, 2011.

For trips to/from Connecticut. save 20% by booking here. Good through March 31, 2011.

Mid-Atlantic Amtrak Discounts (NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, DC, VA)

Traveling in New York State. or to Montreal. You have two good options. First, try booking with this link. which gets you 20% off any in-state (or Montreal) ticket for travel through May 31. If you’re riding the Adirondack train (that’s the Montreal train) on a Thursday-Sunday before April 28 and if the resulting fare is higher than $89 round-trip, use this link for an $89 Adirondack round-trip instead.

If you’re traveling to/from Philadelphia before July 13, use this link to save 15% off each ticket.

But if you’re traveling to/from Philadelphia between July 15 and Dec. 20, use this link to save 30% off a second ticket, which is like saving 15% off each ticket if you travel as a pair.

For 30% off a second ticket to/from Wilmington, DE. book here. Good for travel through Dec. 20, 2011.

For trips to/from Baltimore, MD. get 30% off a second ticket by booking here. Good for travel through Dec. 20, 2011.

For trips to/from BWI Airport, MD. get 30% off a second ticket by booking here. Good for travel through Dec. 20, 2011.

For trips to/from Washington, D.C.. get 30% off a second ticket by booking here. Good for travel through Dec. 20, 2011.

    Southeast Amtrak Discounts

There aren’t many discounts in the Southeast right now, unfortunately. I’ve seen North Carolina discounts in the past, though, so keep your eyes out for future changes.

For trips to Orlando, Winter Park, and Kissimmee, FL on the Silver Star and Silver Meteor trains, you can get 15% off an adult fare by using discount code V104. Good for travel through Dec. 31, 2011.

    Midwest Amtrak Discounts

Note that many of these discounts only cover short-distance trains — except for the St. Louis link, you can’t use them for the long interstate routes.

For trips to or from most Michigan cities on the short-distance Blue Water, Pere Marquette, and Wolverine trains, you can get 15% off by booking here. Good for travel through April 30, 2011.

For trips to or from any city in Illinois on the short-distance Carl Sandburg, Illini, Illinois Zephyr, Lincoln Service, and Saluki trains, you can get 20% off by booking here. Good through April 30, 2011. Note that this won’t get you a discount on long-distance trains that don’t originate in Illinois or Missouri.

For trips to or from St. Louis. MO on any train, you can get 20% off by booking here. Good for travel through May 2, 2011.

For trips to any city in Missouri on the short-distance Missouri River Runner train, you can get 15% off by booking here. Good for travel through April 30, 2011.

    West Coast Amtrak Discounts

The Portland and Seattle versions of the “Chinook Book” coupon book include a 25%-off coupon for Amtrak Cascades trains, which run through Oregon, Washington, and up to Vancouver, B.C. The book costs $20, so it’s hard to make that math work if you’re just doing it for the Amtrak coupon. But the book has hundreds of coupons for either Portland or Seattle merchants that you might find otherwise helpful.

The East Bay and Silicon Valley, CA versions of the Chinook Book include buy-one-get-one-free coupons for the Capitol Corridor train. The same concerns as above apply; it might make sense if you intend to use more of the local coupons. You can find the full list of coupons at .

For trips to Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Solvang, Buellton, Lompoc, Surf, Guadalupe, and Santa Maria, CA on the Pacific Surfliner or San Joaquin trains, you can get 20% off by clicking here. Good through Dec. 19. 2011.

For trips to Grover Beach, San Luis Obispo, and Paso Robles, CA on the Pacific Surfliner or Coast Starlight trains, you can get 20% off by signing up here. Good for travel through Dec. 31, 2011.

Have you uncovered any other great Amtrak discount codes?

    Annual Travel Insurance Quotes #find #a #cheap #flight

    #annual travel insurance

Buy travel insurance and get 2 for 1 cinema tickets

Every Tuesday and Wednesday for a whole year with MEERKAT MOVIES

    Comparing annual travel insurance

So why might you need annual travel insurance? Well, it can be essential if you travel often. People often buy a travel policy to cover them for their holiday abroad once a year, but it can work out cheaper to buy annual cover if you go away twice a year or more. This is sometimes also called multi trip travel insurance.

More generally, it’s essential to have travel insurance as it should protect you if things go wrong.

    What does travel insurance cover?

The main purpose of travel or holiday insurance is to cover you for cost of medical treatment abroad – which could go into thousands of pounds. It could also pay for you to be transported home in an emergency.

Policies do vary from insurer to insurer, but most should include emergency medical treatment costs to cover things such as hospital charges and ambulance fees. They usually also cover getting you home after medical treatment abroad, if you can’t use your original tickets. Often you’ll be covered for the costs of a friend or relative staying with you while you’re treated, or flying out from home to support you if needed.

Your policy can also cover you if you lose your baggage or other possessions (or they’re stolen), and refund you if the trip has to be cancelled or cut short (cover will vary depending on provider).

So is it going to be cheaper for you to buy an annual policy or a single trip travel insurance? It actually depends on a few things, so the best way to find out what would work best for you is to do a travel insurance comparison.

    Where are you going?

When you compare travel insurance you first need to decide if your policy needs to cover you just for the UK, or for Europe, or the USA, Canada and Caribbean. You’ll need extra cover if you’re going to the USA, Canada or Caribbean, or anywhere further beyond. So if there’s a chance you will be going somewhere exotic, it could be worth including that in your annual policy.

Some people think that they don’t need travel insurance if they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). If you need medical treatment while travelling within many European countries, the EHIC means you can get treatment on the same basis (maybe free or at a low cost) as people who live in that country. However, it will be on the basis you get taken to a public not private hospital. In the event of an emergency you will be taken to the nearest hospital.

But the EHIC isn’t a substitute for travel cover – it wouldn’t pay for getting you home or other costs linked to your medical emergency. They are also date-specific, so check the expiry on your card before you travel. Be aware too, that not all European countries recognise the EHIC. Also some policies will waive your excess if you have one.

Outside the EU of course there’s no EHIC, so it can be more expensive again to get medical support.

A final point on where you’re going. Your travel insurance won’t cover you if you are travelling to a country that the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) doesn’t consider to be safe. If you’re not sure, check the FCO website.

    Who are you taking?

Your annual travel insurance could just be for you, or you could buy it as a couple, or cover your family or a group.

If you’re including other people, you will need their dates of birth and details of any medical conditions they might have, to get an accurate quote.

    What will you be doing?

If you’re going skiing or snowboarding, or taking a cruise, or your trip is for business, not all policies will cover you. With winter sports there’s more risk of injury, while cruises need specific elements like cover for being confined to your cabin, or an emergency airlift to hospital. If you’re travelling on business (and your company isn’t insuring the trip) not all general policies will cover you. We’ll ask you about these elements as part of our quote information.

If you’re planning on being adventurous on your travels, you might need to check whether things like bungee jumping, white water rafting or lion taming are covered in your policy – should you need them.

    How’s your health?

From an insurer’s point of view, if you have a health condition it could mean you‘re more likely to need medical help while you’re away. Because of this, some conditions might make your insurance more expensive but this isn’t always the case with all conditions.

It’s important that you do list any medical conditions and give insurers all the information they need because, if not, you might be charged more by your insurer or not be covered. If your insurer discovers that the medical emergency on your trip was linked to a condition you already had, they could refuse to pay your bills or add a cost.

To get you a list of quotes, we’ll ask you a few questions about your health and get you to add in the names of any medical conditions.

    Compare and save!

Next you’ll get a page full of travel insurance quotes. These are listed in price order with the cheapest travel insurance at the top.

You can also see all the main details of each policy – how well it’s rated by Defaqto, the amounts of medical, baggage and cancellation cover and what excess you would pay if you did make a claim. You can filter your results to only show those over a certain limit, if you like.

To find out more about what is and isn’t included in the policies, click each one for more details.

Once you have found a travel insurance quote that suits you, click the button to go through and buy. But do make sure you read all the details. We hope you never need to claim, but you should make sure you have the right cover, just in case.

Don’t forget, if you buy your travel insurance policy through us, you will benefit from the fabulous Meerkat Movies! You can get 2 for 1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, every week for a whole year.* A great reason to choose us for your holiday insurance.

The Van Gogh Museum is the most visited museum in the city and contains a large amount of the artist’s paintings, including the Aardappeleters (The Potato Eaters) and Zonnebloemen (Sunflowers).

The Stedelijk Museum is right next door and houses the largest collection of modern art in Amsterdam by renowned artists such as Piet Mondriaan and Karel Appel.

The house where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during the war and wrote her famous diary is now a museum dedicated to her memory. The house contains her original diary, photographs and personal possessions and attracts many visitors so be prepared to queue.

Amsterdam is famous for its beautiful 17 th century canals that run through the heart of the city. Awarded World Heritage status, these meandering waterways, scattered with sleepy houseboats, are a highlight of an Amsterdam city break.

Albert Cuypmarkt is Amsterdam’s oldest market and popular with the locals for its tasty snacks, such as doughnuts, egg rolls, and stroopwafels.

For souvenirs, Bloemenmarkt. by the Singel covers all your tulips needs, and Delftware. the famous blue and white Dutch pottery, can be bought at Jorrit Heinen Royal Gifts and Collectables in the Munt Tower.

    Lowest Airfare Guarantee #travel #insureance

    #best price on airfare

    Lowest Airfare Guarantee

We will beat any airfare quote or you fly free

Applies to genuine quotes from airlines and other Australian registered businesses and websites for travel that originates/departs from Australia. Quote must be in writing and presented to us on the same day as it was created, must be presented to us prior to booking and must be for the same form of payment. Fare must be available, able to be booked by the general public when you bring it to us and be for the same dates, airlines, number of passengers, booking classes and flight numbers. The written quote must show the date it was created and the final price including all applicable fees and charges (including booking / service fees and all charges for the form of payment chosen). Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded. We will beat the price by $1 per person.

Lowest Airfare Guarantee – why book anywhere else?

When it comes to cheap flights, we are so sure we will not be beaten on price that if you find a cheaper available airfare quote and we don’t beat it, we will fly you to your destination for free.

    How can I Fly Free?

As long as the same airfare is available, Flight Centre will BEAT any genuine written airfare quote by $1 per person.

Step 1: Bring us a written quote prior to booking

Your quote must be in writing and must relate to standard airfares available to the general public. Your genuine written quote must be presented to us on the same day as it was created and prior to booking. Travel must originate/depart from Australia. Does not apply to prices from Flight Centre’s own website. The quote must show the date it was created and show the final price including all fees and charges (including booking / service fees and all charges for the form of payment chosen). If your quote is from a website, it must show the final price payable at the final payment stage and must show all applicable fees and charges. Your quote must be for the same form of payment as you intend to pay Flight Centre (e.g. cash, credit card).

You can provide written airfare quotes from:

    1. Other Australian travel agencies
    2. Airlines; and
    3. Other Australian-registered businesses and websites

Step 2: Confirmation that the quote is genuine and available

Your consultant will need to confirm that the quote is genuine, available and able to be booked by the general public when you present it to us. If it is, we will BEAT it by $1 per person.

We will require you to book your flight when we beat your quote and pay in full on the same day, using the same form of payment as for the competitor’s quote. The change and cancellation conditions specific to your booking will apply. If the quoted airfare is not available, invalid or incorrect then we will endeavour to find you the best available alternative that suits your requirements.

If we believe your written quote contains an error in the pricing of the fare, or that the pricing, fare or booking class offered is no longer available to book on the same date, airline and flight number, for the same number of passengers, we have a 24 hour period to investigate the price and BEAT it by $1 per person.

Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded.

If we are required to beat your airfare quote and we don’t then you Fly Free!

Your consultant will do everything they can to beat the airfare you have been quoted. If the qualifying criteria are met we will beat that price by $1 per person. If the qualifying criteria are met and your consultant does not beat your quoted price you will receive your flight free of charge.

You must make your free flight claim prior to flying or within 7 days of your quote not being beaten (whichever occurs first). The free flight will be booked and paid for by us and will be identical to the one you have asked us to price beat. We do not reimburse customers for flights they have purchased elsewhere, nor do we provide them with cash or vouchers to the value of the flight we were asked to price beat. Despite anything else in the airline’s terms and conditions, you cannot cancel your free flight and claim a refund.

    Recommended Reviews

Marcelo is amazing! My friend and I were struggling to book internal flights in Peru with our US credit cards. We called him and in 5 minutes, he had great flights, tons of advice and he knew so much about travel within the country and what to see. He s got the hookup! I just wish I would have called him from the very beginning before we booked stuff.

This place was great. We just stopped in to check out what a travel agent could do for us since we didn t have the time or know-how on planning a complex trip through South America. After our first meeting with Cesar, we realized that visiting Americas Travel was the best decision we could have made with regard to this trip.

Oh my goodness.  Have been using Marcelo at Americas Travel to book airfares to Central and South America for years.  Have always been impressed by his ability to find the BEST fares with the BEST schedules.

But my experience today takes the cake.  If I was loyal to Marcelo before, I am LOYAL to Marcelo and Americas Travel now and so are all the friends traveling with me today.

Scheduled to fly to Guatemala this morning with some friends to help build a school and spend some time enjoying the country.  Nightmare experience when we arrived at the SFO.  We barely made it for the cutoff time of checking in but, even though we were there in time, the devil airline refused to check us in and we had people depending on our arrival to work on the school project.  Not only did the freakishly terrible airline refuse to check us in, they refused to help us get on the next flight to Guatemala City.  We were told they would not be able to get us on a flight for a couple of days and each one of us would need to pay $583 for the transfer and new flight fees.

Enter Marcelo. Americas Travel has Saturday hours. thank goodness!  After beating my head against a brick wall for hours trying to have a rational conversation with the airline agents, I finally gave up and headed to Americas Travel to wait patiently for their 10:30 am Saturday morning opening.

In 10 minutes, Marcelo took care of EVERYTHING.  We went from stressing out over when and IF we could afford to get to Guatemala to being on the next flight with NO CHANGE IN PRICE.

Absolutely amazing.  Can t say thank you or recommend them enough!

Amtrak – Deals – Rail Passes – USA Rail Passes #travel

    #rail travel

Your Local Travel Agency: You can purchase USA Rail Passes by contacting a travel agent with direct online access to Amtrak tickets and passes.

USA Rail Passes are not available for purchase onboard trains.

Do I Need Tickets and Reservations?

Yes. Your USA Rail Pass is not a ticket. When traveling on a USA Rail Pass, you must have a ticket and a reservation for each train you board. You must make reservations and pick up your ticket(s) before boarding any train.

Reservations for train travel should be made as far in advance as possible; seats available for USA Rail Pass passengers are limited on each train. We do not recommend waiting until the day of departure to make your reservations since there is a greater chance that seats allocated for the USA Rail Pass may not be available on your desired train. If your plans are not flexible, non-USA Rail Pass seats may be available at an additional cost.

Pass prices are subject to change and are not guaranteed until actual travel reservations are made.

How Do I Get My Tickets?

If you are already in the United States or Canada, call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) and speak to a reservations agent. Travelers outside of the United States and Canada, call (001) 215-856-7953.

  • Pick-up Pass and Ticket(s): Paper tickets are issued for the USA Rail Pass and all travel segments. You can pick up your pass and tickets at any staffed Amtrak ticket office in many Amtrak stations by showing your USA Rail Pass or Pass Confirmation Number. Passes may only be picked up at staffed stations.
  • Timing and Validity

    • After you advance purchase your USA Rail Pass on, you have one year to exchange it for a paper USA Rail Pass and begin travel.
    • Once you are issued a paper USA Rail Pass, you have 180 days to complete your travel.
    • Once your first travel segment is reserved, you must complete your travel within the selected travel duration of the pass. The travel duration period begins on the first date of travel, not the date on which the reservation was made.

What Valid Documents Do I Need?

Travel on Amtrak requires full identification. A valid passport or US issued identification card, such as a driver’s license or picture ID card, is required. Learn more about Passenger Identification requirements .

Amtrak considers a travel segment any time you get on and then get off a vehicle (train, bus, ferry or other allowable leg) regardless of length.

    Example 1

Because we don’t have a direct route from Washington, DC to Oklahoma, City, OK, you could ride the Capitol Limited train from Washington to Chicago (segment 1), then ride the Texas Eagle train from Chicago to Fort Worth (segment 2) and finally ride the Heartland Flyer train from Fort Worth to Oklahoma, City (segment 3). This journey from Washington to Oklahoma City would use three of your allowable segments.

    Example 2

To travel from Spokane, WA to Portland OR, you could ride the Empire Builder train directly to Portland using one segment or you could ride the Empire Builder train to Seattle (segment 1) and then ride the Amtrak Cascades train from Seattle to Portland (segment 2). Both journeys take you to Portland but use a different number of your allowable segments.

Each segment booked counts toward the total number of segments permitted for the pass.

The USA Rail Pass is only refundable before travel begins. The pass, and all tickets issued with the pass, must be turned into an Amtrak ticket agent no later than the day before the date of the first use written on the pass. A cancellation fee may apply. Substantial cancellation fees apply when sleeping accommodations are canceled less than 15 days in advance.

The USA Rail Pass entitles you to travel in regular Coach class seats. On some trains, you can upgrade your Coach seat to Business class or Sleeping Car accommodations for the appropriate surcharge.
