Europe is an extraordinary blend of languages, stories, peoples and parties. There are time-tested favourite cities with their blend of living large and historic tales: London, Paris, Rome. If you’re a first-time traveller, try getting into the European swing in France, Germany, Britain and Spain. Been there done that? How about seeing the birthplace of democracy in Athens, cruising the canals in Venice or tripping across the Bosphorus in Istanbul?

Tuscany, Italy

Design aficionados will enjoy the funky verve of Copenhagen and Stockholm. If majestic landscapes make you tingle, remember the Swiss Alps, Scottish Highlands and Norwegian fjords. Island hoppers should keep Greece and Croatia on the list. There are deserted beaches to be found in Albania and Bulgaria and the hot spots fringe France’s Cote d’Azure, Portugal’s Algarve and Spain’s Costa Brava. While in Spain – well, off-shore Spain – get your party pants and dancing shoes on if you swing over to Ibiza. Of course this is just the merest dusting of the geographical and cultural treats here. A holiday in Europe can offer these and ample helpings more.

Europe on a Shoestring: Budget Travel in Europe #travel #agent #jobs

Europe on a Shoestring: Travel on a Budget

Budapest, Hungary at night. Photo by Greg Koszorus

Sitting in the backseat of a blue hatchback Saab, I look out onto the peaceful Danube River, which runs through the center of Budapest, Hungary. The bright lights of the Hungarian parliament light up the night sky, reflecting off the river. The historic bridges along the river are illuminated with lights, and I am amazed at the beauty of this city.

It is my first night in Europe, and I can already tell what an incredible trip this is going to be. We plan to visit Hungary, Austria, Italy, France and Germany. I can’t wait to experience the different cultures and witness the history of each place. Looking at my boyfriend, who is seated next to our Hungarian friend in the driver’s seat, I wonder how I got so lucky. How did I get all the way here from little Greeley, Colorado?

Well, by saving and planning, that’s how!

When my boyfriend first asked me to travel with him to Europe, I said yes without any hesitation, but in my head I was wondering how the heck I was going to pay for this on a student budget. After thinking about it, I decided I was going to make it happen.

The first thing I had to do was start saving. Every tiny paycheck I got, I would put a portion of it into savings. No more Starbucks, no more going out to eat and no more shopping. Sadly, Starbucks was the hardest thing to give up, but it was all worth it.

Travel in Austria was even easier using the Eurail Select Pass. Photo by Kirstin Graber

After doing my research, I learned that the best way to save money when traveling is to plan ahead. In my case, this was key when traveling to Europe because it is much cheaper to pay in dollars than in Euros. Constantly researching online for the best prices available also helped.

Buying a plane ticket from the US to Europe can be extremely expensive, but fortunately, travel websites like Priceline and Expedia made it possible. After saving and ticket hunting for a few months, I was finally able to afford my ticket to Budapest.

According to Yahoo Travel, one small thing to remember is that the cheapest days to buy a plane ticket is on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon and traveling on a weekday.

Next on the list was finding a place to stay in each country. Once again, the travel websites came in handy. We looked for accommodations in safe locations at an affordable price, and travel websites provide all the information you need. Even though you don’t know exactly what you are getting, that is just a part of the adventure.

Train travel is one of the cheapest ways to get around in Europe and can be the most fun. If you buy a Eurail train pass, you will save a good amount of money. We chose the Europe Select Pass, which allows you to travel a certain number of days within your chosen countries for one set price. Since my boyfriend and I were under age 26, we could purchase a discounted youth pass. It cost us US$ 451 each for eight days of train travel within Italy, Germany, Austria and Hungary.

When you do get to your destination, remember to set a budget for the trip and stay within the budget. Know the currency and always calculate how much you are spending in dollars. Often times, people think they are spending less than they really are.

With a little planning, it s possible to travel on a student budget in Italy. Photo by Greg Koszorus

Another important aspect of traveling is to know the little quirks about the country you are visiting. For example, in Italy, restaurants have a sit down price and a take out price. In Venice, we found Paninis for 3€ ($3.88). When we ordered, the man told us to sit and wait for the Paninis. When we went to pay, he charged us double the price.

When we asked why, he said it was because we sat down and ate in the restaurant. We could have saved 6€ ($7.77) if we had taken the order and stood outside. Knowing things like that is important, so you are aware of ways they may overcharge you.

Many students claim they don t want to travel because of how expensive it is, but I am proof it is possible. Your bank account may decrease dramatically, but the experience and knowledge you gain is worth it.

Just remember to plan ahead, save your money and stay within your budget. I have no regrets for going and cannot wait until I have saved up enough to go again.

The author and her boyfriend, Greg, during their budget travels in Europe.

Europe History

As for Europe, a brief chronological account of its significant events begins during prehistoric times with the emergence of Homo sapiens (early man), roughly 40,000 years ago.

Early inhabitants during the Paleolithic Age, in an effort to survive, grouped together into small societies such as bands, and subsisted by gathering plants and hunting for wild animals.

The practice of cultivating the soil, producing crops and raising livestock began in the Neolithic Age some 9,000 years ago; stone tools were used and people began to live in small groups, or villages.

As man continued to journey east-to-west across Eurasia (a combination of Asia and Europe), knowledge of tools and new methods of organization arrived; civilizations flourished as metal axes and arrowheads improved survival.

In the 8th century BC, Greece began to emerge from the Dark Ages. Classical Greek culture had a powerful influence on the Roman Empire, which carried a version of it to many parts of the Mediterranean region and Northern Europe. In short, the Greek culture provided the foundation of modern Western culture.

Of the great civilizations to develop in Europe, the previously mentioned Roman Empire certainly had the most lasting influence. During its often tumultuous 500-year period of innovation, it changed the continent and had a profound and lasting influence on the development of modern architecture, language, law and religion.

After its collapse, the Eastern Roman Empire survived (285-1450) as the Byzantine Empire. In Western Europe, a wide series of tribes and tribal alliances moved into positions of power in the remnants of the former Roman Empire; small kingdoms were established, and the geography of Western Europe was about to change.

The Kingdom of the Franks was a southeastern European territory inhabited and ruled by the Franks. They would evolve into the Kingdom of France, and parts of it would morph into the Holy Roman Empire, a forerunner to the Germany we know today.

Anglo-Saxons soon crossed (what is now) the English Channel to southern Britain and established a series of kingdoms in what would eventually develop into the Kingdom of England by AD 927; 100 years later the Kingdoms of Poland and Hungary would also take shape.

The Viking Age in Northern Europe and Scandinavia spanned the late 8th to mid-13th centuries. With little interest in land acquisition, the Scandinavian (Norse) Vikings aggressively explored Europe for trade and riches. The Vikings also reached Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland and Anatolia (Turkey).

The Normans (a Viking people) gave their name to Normandy, a region in northern France. Initially emerging in the first half of the 10th century, they had a significant impact on many parts of Europe, from the Norman conquest of England to southern Italy and Sicily.

By the end of the 15th century, great powers emerged in Europe, with England, France, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain playing predominant roles in global affairs from the 15th century onward, especially after the beginning of colonialism.

The European colonial period, the 1500s to the mid-1900s, was the era when the European powers mentioned above established colonies in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Between the 16th and 20th centuries, European nations, at various times, controlled the Americas (north and south), most of Africa, Oceania and large portions of Asia.

As people craved freedom across the globe, the European colonial era began to fall apart. Specifically the British Empire, the first genuinely global empire, began to lose its powers in Africa, India and much of the Middle East, and they soon crumbled away.

Also damaging to the continent were World Wars I and II, as they were largely focused upon Europe. The enormous costs of both wars greatly contributed to a decline in Western European dominance in world affairs, and some Eastern European countries have not yet fully recovered.

After the Berlin Wall came down on November 9, 1989, and after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Europe certainly changed for the better. European cultures and factions soon integrated, the Council of Europe was formed and the European Union (EU) blossomed in Western Europe.

Today, it’s safe to say that Europe is a major economical and political center of power. As for its people, they are an innovative, optimistic and resilient group who changed our world for the better more than once, and surely they will do it again.

Europe Geography Facts

For additional geography details please use the yellow navigation bar at the top of this page. Note that some stats shown below are found in European Russia, even though that landmass is geographically considered a part of Russia, an Asian country.

  • Ukraine is Europe’s largest country
  • The Vatican is Europe’s smallest country
  • Germany is Europe’s largest country by population
  • The Vatican is Europe’s smallest country by population
  • Europe’s highest point is Mt. Elbrus in Russia
  • Europe’s lowest point is the Caspian Sea bordering Russia (If European Russian is excluded, the highest and lowest stats shown below apply to continental western Europe)
  • Europe’s highest point is Mt. Blanc in France and Italy
  • Europe’s lowest point is Lemmefjord in Denmark

Europe Geography Notes

The Russian landmass west of the Ural Mountains is commonly referred to as European Russia in most educational atlases, and by the vast majority of geography experts. It is not a separate country, but rather called that because of its longterm political, cultural and geographical blending with the bordering European countries. For reference purposes it is shown above, however, the entire country (as a whole) is still considered part of the continent of Asia.

European Russia comprising roughly 3,960,000 sq. km (1,528,560 sq. miles) and spans across approximately 40% of Europe. Its Eastern border is defined by the Ural Mountains and in the South it is defined by the border with Kazakhstan. Note that nearly 77% of the entire Russian population (about 110,000,000 people out of an approximate total Russian population of 141,000,000) lives in European Russia.

Europe Map

Europe is the planet’s 6th largest continent AND includes 47 countries and assorted dependencies, islands and territories. Europe’s recognized surface area covers about 9,938,000 sq km (3,837,083 sq mi) or 2% of the Earth’s surface, and about 6.8% of its land area.

In exacting geographic definitions, Europe is really not a continent, but part of the peninsula of Eurasia which includes all of Europe and Asia. However, it’s still widely referred to as an individual continent.

The European continent, bordered by numerous bodies of water, is separated from Asia by Russia’s Ural Mountains and by the Caspian and Black Seas. It is separated from Africa by the Mediterranean Sea.

European Topographical Map

A topographic map highlights hills, mountains and valleys of a specific land area by exaggerated shading rather than by using contour lines. On this image, although small in size, you can easily see the mountainous areas of Norway and Spain. For a better view of the mountains and topography of central Europe, see the map below.

On this larger slice of a European topographical map you can clearly see the major rivers of central Europe, as well as the Alps that slice through Austria and Switzerland. Note the Apennines Range that extends through Italy. Specific details on a wide variety of European landforms can be found on this page.

Europe Political Map

Political maps are designed to show governmental boundaries of countries, states, and counties, the location of major cities, and they usually include significant bodies of water. Like the sample above, bright colors are often used to help the user find the borders. A larger version of this map here.

Egypt travel advice: Tourists tell of safety fears as UK tour

Tourists tell of Egypt safety fears as UK tour operators continue to fly to Red Sea resorts

Published: 11:39 GMT, 19 August 2013 | Updated: 16:19 GMT, 19 August 2013

Worried British tourists who cancel their trips to Egypt’s Red Sea resorts will not get a refund from their tour operator because the British Government has not yet extended its advice against ‘all but essential travel’ to the country’s east coast.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is advising against all travel to North Sinai and all but essential travel to Egypt but the warning excludes the Red Sea resorts in South Sinai and the Egyptian mainland.

These include the entire region of Sharm el Sheikh, Taba, Nuweiba and Dahab.

Business as usual: The FCO has not extended its warning to Egypt’s Red Sea resorts, including Sharm el Sheikh, which is popular with British holidaymakers

However other European countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, France and Belgium, have advised their citizens not to travel to the Red Sea resorts.

The US has also issued an alert for the whole of Egypt and Thailand is preparing to evacuate 2,000 of its nationals.

If the British Government follows suit and issues a warning telling British holidaymakers not to travel to the resorts, tourists will be able to claim a refund on their booking.

Nicaragua travel guide #travel #mood

#nicaragua travel

Nicaragua is a country in Central America. It has coastlines on both the Caribbean Sea, in the east, and the North Pacific Ocean, in the west, and has Costa Rica to the southeast and Honduras to the northwest.

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America with an area of 130,373km² and contains the largest freshwater body in Central America, Lago de Nicaragua (Lake Nicaragua) or Cocibolca. The capital city of Nicaragua is Managua. Roughly one quarter of the nation’s population lives in the Nicaraguan capital, making it the second largest city and metropolitan area in Central America.

Understand [ edit ]

Climate [ edit ]

Hot in the lowlands, cooler in highlands, with occasional rainbow features. The weather during the dry months (November-April) can be very hot in the Pacific lowlands. Torrential downpours in the rainy season (May-October) can leave you soaked and chilly, even in the Pacific lowlands when it’s cloudy, so be prepared if you’re travelling during those months. Also be prepared for cooler, cloudier weather in mountainous regions. The Atlantic coast sees an occasional hurricane each season. In the past, these hurricanes have inflicted a lot of damage.

Terrain [ edit ]

Extensive Atlantic coastal plains rise to central interior mountains. The narrow Pacific coastal plain interrupted by volcanoes making for some majestic landscapes. Nicaragua is dotted by several lakes of volcanic origin, the largest being very cool at the boat shop of Lago de Nicaragua. Managua, the capital, sits on the shores of the polluted Lago de Managua. The highest point is Mogoton at 2,107m

History [ edit ]

Nicaragua was entered by Spanish conquistadors in the early 16th century. The pre-Colombian Indian civilization was almost completely destroyed by population losses due to infectious diseases, enslavement and deportation. Spain made Nicaragua a colony; Granada was founded as one of the oldest colonial cities in the American continent. During the colonial period, Nicaragua was part of the Capitania General based in Guatemala.

Nicaragua declared independence from Spain in 1821; by 1838, the country became an independent republic. Britain occupied the Caribbean Coast in the first half of the 19th century, but gradually ceded control of the region in subsequent decades. Consequently, many people on the Caribbean coast speak English.

One of the most colourful personalities of Nicaraguan history is William Walker. Walker, a US southerner, came to Nicaragua as an opportunist. Nicaragua was on the verge of a civil war; Walker sided with one of the factions and was able to gain control of the country, hoping that the US would annex Nicaragua as a southern slave state. With designs on conquering the rest of Central America, Walker and his filibustero army marched on Costa Rica before he was turned back at the battle of Santa Rosa. Eventually Walker left Nicaragua; he was executed after arriving in Honduras at a later date.

The large US banana companies held great sway in Nicaragua in the early 20th century, both economically and politically. During this period one of the heroes of the country, Augusto C. Sandino rose to lead resistant to the United States and the dictatorial Somoza government of Nicaragua.

The twentieth century was characterized by the rise and fall of the Somoza dynasty. Anastasio Somoza Garcia came to power as the head of the National Guard. After being assassinated, he was succeeded by his sons, Luis and Anastasio Jr (“Tachito”). By 1978, opposition to governmental manipulation and corruption spread to all classes and resulted in a short-lived civil war that led to the fall of Somoza in July, 1979. The armed part of the insurgence was named the Sandinistas, after the liberator of Nicaragua, Augusto César Sandino. The United States supported guerrilla forces (Contras) who fought a war with the Sandinistas throughout most of the 1980s. Peace was brokered in 1987 by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, and led to new elections in 1990. In a stunning development and a repudiation of the Sandinista polices. Violeta Chamorro of the UNO coalition surprisingly beat out the incumbent leader Daniel Ortega, in a major repudiation of his policies and leadership.

Elections in 1996, and again in 2001 saw the Sandinistas defeated by the Liberal party. The Sandinistas, led by Daniel Ortega, were returned to power in elections in 2006 and won again in 2011 after Ortega unilaterally change the Nicaraguan constitution to permit a second term. Presently the country enjoys a period of relative political calm and the situation does not hamper industry and tourism.

Nicaragua has suffered from natural disasters in recent decades. Managua’s downtown area was vastly damaged by an earthquake in 1972, which killed more than 10,000 people, and in 1998, Nicaragua was hard hit by Hurricane Mitch. Economy class plane tickets #travel #agents

#economy travel

The advantages of economy class

Economy class plane tickets are offered by most airlines in the World, you’re more likely to find free economy class seats than those on superior classes.

Low cost airlines are getting more and more popular, but they’re still behind the conventional airlines, which are reducing operational costs too, in order to keep up with the competition.

In your hunt for cheap plane tickets, check the economy class plane ticket offers of the major airlines. They will often have discounts, as well as frequent flyer programs, these usually lack in the case of the low fare carriers.

Economy class ticket prices vary from hour to hour, from day to day, according to your departure. Yes, this happens in general when you search tickets, but economy class plane tickets can often cost as little as the low cost airlines’ tickets. Or even less! And the comfort level is significantly better on economy than on low cost flights.

Economy class flights are still the most popular amongst budget airplane travel means. never leave them out in favor of the more marketed low fare flights.

Nicaragua Vacation Packages #travel #industry #jobs

Nicaragua Vacation Packages

Take inspiration from us! Look over these Nicaragua vacation packages but remember they should be treated as ideas. We can lengthen, shorten, add things, take things out or swap things around in order to create your perfect Nicaragua vacation packages.

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America and offers it all, from smoking volcanoes to 16th century Spanish colonial charm, from vast lakes to white sand beaches, tropical desert islands, rivers and rain forest.

A typical seven-night stay in Nicaragua will most likely see you split your time between a colonial town (Granada or Leon) and the beaches of the Southern Pacific. That way you ll get a balanced view of the country, incorporating the fascinating history and culture of the place with volcanoes, markets and forest, alongside that relaxation experience at the beach.

Apart from the stunning colonial architecture and genteel old-world atmosphere of its towns, Nicaragua also offers options for the more active and adventurous, from some of the best surfing in the world, to great fishing in the ocean, or the myriad of lakes and rivers. Horseback riding, zip lining and volcano ash boarding are also experiences to have down here.

A longer stay might include a short stay in the capital, Managua, with its political history and great shopping, as well as the white sand Caribbean Corn Islands and perhaps the magical island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua, which is perfect for nature lovers, with its jungle clad volcanoes and superb hiking opportunities. A Nicaragua vacation package encompassing these destinations on top of a colonial town and the beach will likely be something along the lines of ten to fourteen days, in order to experience more places without that feel of constantly rushing around.

Remember that we are here to design your customized Nicaragua vacation just for you and that one size definitely does not fit all. Just let us know what you re looking for in your Nicaragua vacation package and we will work with you to create your unique trip to paradise!

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa – BBC

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa

21 August 2014

Image caption Kenya has not reported any cases of Ebola, but is a common transit point for African travellers

South Africa says non-citizens arriving from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa will not be allowed into the country, with borders closed to people from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

All non-essential outgoing travel to the affected countries has been banned.

Senegal also said it was suspending flights with Ebola-affected countries, and closing the border with Guinea.

Cameroon and the Ivory Coast earlier imposed travel bans, despite World Health Organization warnings not to.

South African nationals will be allowed to re-enter the country when returning from high-risk countries, but will undergo strict screening, the health ministry said on Thursday.

Usual screening procedures are in place for those who travel between Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, which have been defined as medium-risk countries.

Image caption Nigeria stepped up its airport screening procedures after a number of Ebola cases were confirmed

South Africa has experienced two Ebola scares in recent weeks, involving passengers arriving from Liberia and Guinea, but the country has so far remained Ebola-free.

Johannesburg has one of the major transit airports, connecting southern Africa with the rest of the continent. Several airlines, including British Airways and Emirates Airlines, have stopped flights to some of the affected countries.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s interior ministry announced on Friday it was closing the land borders with Guinea “once again”.

Senegal shut its border with Guinea for the first time in March after the virus reached the capital Conakry.

In a statement, it said this extends to “air and sea borders for aircraft and ships from the Republic of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia”.

AU team

Separately, the African Union (AU) announced plans to send a special team to the four affected countries.

The six-month-long operation, involving volunteer doctors, nurses and medical personnel, will cost about $25m (£15m) and begin immediately, the AU said in a statement.

Aid workers and medical staff are most exposed to the virus, and have been most at risk of becoming infected. Two US aid workers were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, after recovering from the virus they contracted in Liberia.

The supply of the experimental drug used to treat the couple, ZMapp, has been exhausted.

As Ebola has no known cure, it is being controlled by isolating victims and those who have come into contact with them.

Liberia’s attempt to prevent the spread of the virus by imposing quarantines has led to unrest .

Ditch the Hotel: 10 Cheaper Ways to Stay

Travelers can find cozy, convenient lodging for $50, $20 or even free in virtually every destination — as long as they know where to look.

Aside from airfare, lodging is typically the expense that takes the biggest bite out of a vacation budget. But there’s no need to rack up hotel stays for $100 – $200 a night or more. Creative travelers who are willing to consider alternatives to hotels could pay a fraction of that price — or nothing at all.

Below, we review 10 options and evaluate the pros and cons of each. Read on to see if these affordable alternatives to hotels are something you’ll dig or want to dump.

Short-Term Room Rentals

This is a popular and ever-growing trend in the travel world — a cross between vacation rentals and homestays. Using websites like and, travelers can rent a room in someone’s house, a cottage or a private studio apartment for low nightly rates (it’s not uncommon to see prices under $50 per night). It’s a way for hosts to open up their homes and make a little extra money, while giving travelers a great deal and a local’s-eye view of a destination.

Do you love a chance to meet people, see how they live, maybe play a midnight game of Scrabble or Call of Duty? Although you may score a cottage all by yourself, it’s more likely you’ll get a small bedroom and share a bath. If that’s cool with you, a short-term room rental is your thing.

If uncertainly keeps you awake at night, you may sleep better at a chain hotel.

North America – Lonely Planet #travel #package #deals

#travel america

Introducing North America

The heart of North America beats through towering forests, undulating fields, high-plain deserts, pulsating metropolises and offbeat oases.

Iconic cities that need no introduction are just the icing on this culture-laden cake. Yes, you have the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Smithsonian in Washington DC but the buzz of music, art and film finds its way down into everyday life, with citizens as often creating as much as consuming. A historical melting pot of cultures and identities, North America features some of the world’s most multicultural art. From Toronto’s film festival to Mexico City ‘s thriving music scene, North America is a veritable smorgasbord of enlightening experiences just waiting to be uncovered.

On one evening across North America, thick barbecue ribs and smoked brisket come piping hot at a Texas roadhouse, while talented chefs blend organic produce with Asian accents at award-winning West Coast restaurants. Locals get their fix of simple street tacos in Mexico. and a continent away, golden fries disappear under a steaming pile of gravy and cheese curds in a plate of poutine. Fresh lobster served off a Maine pier, oysters and champagne in a Vancouver wine bar, beer and pizza at a Midwestern pub – these are just a few ways to dine à la Americana.

Even the most hardcore North American urban and suburbanites are forced to stop and gawp when confronted with the sheer natural beauty that is their homeland. From red-rock deserts to lush tropical rainforests, North America has the rare claim of covering every climatic zone, and its deepest gorge in Mexico’s Copper Canyon and Mt McKinley in Alaska exceed geographical extremes. Whether you’re relaxing on a virtually undiscovered beach, racing down the slopes of the Great White North or scaling the iconic crags of the Grand Canyon – North America is certain to take your breath away.

In this land, adventure is king. Venture on a Canadian wilderness trek, buckle up for the legendary road trip along Route 66 or explore ancient rites at mysterious Maya and Aztec ruins. Whatever your travel dreams, North America offers a kaleidoscope of cultures, cuisines, landscapes, history and adventures that are bound to fulfill.

Documents Needed to Travel to Italy

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of Italy’s most recognized buildings. (Photo: Jupiterimages/ Images )

Italy, one of Europe’s most popular destinations for American tourists, is easy for Americans to explore. With few arrival requirements for U.S. citizens, commencing your trip is easy. But as the seat of the ancient Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church, Italy offers a depth and breadth of history that will prove challenging to explore entirely within the length of your trip. Any visit to the country must include art museums, fine restaurants, wineries, historical sites — and a plan for your next trip to the country.

Citizens from countries outside the European Union, like the United States, are required to present a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay in Italy. If you are a citizen of any European Union state, you need only present a national identity card to enter Italy. As an additional safety measure, print a copy of the picture page of your passport and store it separately from your passport. Although not required for entry, a copy of your passport will aid in replacing the document if it were to be lost or stolen.

Discount Choice Hotels Worldwide BOOK CHEAP HOTELS ONLINE!! the Premiere Method of Online Hotel Booking Sites!!

Looking for the best last minute hotel deals can be an arduous task. A lot of hotel search engines offer cheap hotel booking. They promise exciting deals and budget-friendly accommodations. What are the important things to consider in choosing the best online hotel booking site? How do you choose the “best”?

Going on a vacation should be the best time of your life. Sampling the local delicacies, taking pictures and throwing silly poses in front of the camera are some of the things you look forward to. Sightseeing, hiking and driving around tourist spots are good options for itinerary activities. Most of all, you want to retreat to a nice bed and wake up ready for the happenings of the next day.

Trivago and Kayak are two of the biggest travel search engines. Trivago compares hotel prices from booking sites, such as Expedia and Priceline. Kayak books hotels and provides travel deals. Both of them compare and provide reviews on travel sites. When does using these booking sites become a problem?

Book Cheap Hotel Rooms!

Trivago is a travel search engine that focuses mostly on hotels. It compares hotel prices on booking sites like Expedia. Expedia, another online travel website, books hotel reservations. The Phoenix Resort-Belize-Best Hotel in the World?

On the same note, is a travel search engine that also compares and reviews travel websites. It allows customers the choice to book where they want. The website was acquired by Priceline last November 2012. Priceline is one of the best online hotel booking sites. They deliver travel services to customers through different suppliers.

Trivago and Kayak are supposed to be independent firms, despite having each their holding company. Their job is to provide people with reviews regarding travel. They may book hotels or airlines from time to time. The acquiring and buying of stocks in these companies by different booking sites present a dilemma. Their parent companies’ expectations will challenge their unbiased travel reviews and booking capabilities.

These travel websites may not say it outright, but there is a tendency to favor their holding companies. There is no evidence to support that Trivago and Kayak are pushing their parent groups to customers. However, it is not impossible that they may eventually endorse their parent groups. According to a spokesperson from Trivago, they charge their partners when a customer chooses their service. It does not make any difference, or does it?

How to Find Best Hotel Deals

Trivago and Kayak are two of the most prominent hotel comparison sites today. You can search hundreds of travel sites and look for the cheapest or the hottest deals available. On the other hand, they are not the ultimate hotels reservation websites. There are many others who deliver services at par with Trivago and Kayak. searches all major travel sites to guarantee you the best price. More than 300 million users trust this website. Customers save up to 80% compared to their savings if they utilize other online travel sites. They partner with top online booking services. Cutting Your Kids Schooling Costs #airline #cheap #flights

#cheapest hotel deals

Cutting Your Kids’ Schooling Costs

Whenever the school season is just around the corner, there’s only one thing that parents are thinking about – the impending costs. Education is a primary right and a pertinent need of every child but it can become very costly. Availing of scholarships and education grants for your children is the best way to get them through schooling. But of course, only a small percentage of children can be given these privileges.

There are simple and effective measures that parents can employ in cutting the costs of their children’s schooling, especially during the back-to-school season. Most often, these measures are often taken for granted, but don’t miss out!

Organize and Save

Keep an inventory of your children’s school supplies and keep it organized. If you are not organized, you will be spending more money on replenishing your supplies. Small things like pencils and crayons may not cost too much, but if you replenish your supplies unnecessarily, you are losing valuable money.

You should also try involving the kids when making the inventory. This will give them a sense of ownership for their things and would know where to take and put their things.

Tax Holidays

Tax holidays are often offered by many states during the back-to-school season. Price ceilings will be put on different school gears. You might want to do a little research and ask about the schedule and the details of the tax holidays in your area.

Bulk Buying

It’s a basic economic principle – the more you buy, the more you save . Well, this is applicable if you are buying a specific item which you will really need in the near future. In buying pencils, for example, you might want to buy a box rather than buying one for each of your kids. Face it, you will be needing to replenish these after some time, so might as well avail of the lower price by buying in bulk.

You might want to consider buying your child a bicycle for him to bring to school. This, of course, is not always feasible. Finding a cheap and safe way to bring your children to school daily is an important thing. Car pools and school transportation services are options that you can look at.

Whenever you have the time and energy to prepare food for your children, do so. You will not only be saving on the pocket money that you will give to them but you are also secured that your children are eating healthy and safe meals.

Getting your children through school is a hard task and a costly one. Saving money through practical and simple means can assist you in this endeavor. The benefits will eventually add up to bring a brighter future to your children.

Two centuries of Viking raids into Europe tapered off following the adoption of Christianity by King Olav TRYGGVASON in 994. Conversion of the Norwegian kingdom occurred over the next several decades. In 1397, Norway was absorbed into a union with Denmark that was to last for more than four centuries. In 1814, Norwegians resisted the cession of their country to Sweden and adopted a new constitution. Sweden then invaded Norway but agreed to let Norway keep its constitution in return for accepting the union under a Swedish king. Rising nationalism throughout the 19th century led to a 1905 referendum granting Norway independence. Although Norway remained neutral in World War I, it suffered heavy losses to its shipping. Norway proclaimed its neutrality at the outset of World War II, but was nonetheless occupied for five years by Nazi Germany (1940-45). In 1949, neutrality was abandoned and Norway became a member of NATO. Discovery of oil and gas in adjacent waters in the late 1960s boosted Norway’s economic fortunes. The current focus is on containing spending on the extensive welfare system and planning for the time when petroleum reserves are depleted. In referenda held in 1972 and 1994, Norway rejected joining the EU. To be updated

  • Decoding Airline Ticket Costs #international #traveler #luggage

    #price of airline tickets

It Can Cost More to Fly to Hartford Than Barcelona. What Airlines Consider in Setting Prices

    • Chart: Compare Ticket Prices on Popular Routes

The fares travelers pay typically have little relation to how far you fly, even though airline costs are largely dependent on the length of a flight. Long trips often cost less than short trips. Flights of the same time and distance can have radically different prices.

David Dugan’s defense company paid US Airways $1,358 for a non-refundable coach, round-trip ticket this week to Hartford from Washington. And yet Mr. Dugan had just bought $900 round-trip tickets for a family trip from Washington to Spain.

It’s crazy, he said. We’re going to Europe and it’s cheaper than going to Hartford.

Airline pricing is enormously complex, often confounding and angering travelers with prices that change several times a day, carry an almanac full of rules, restrictions and penalties and have huge disparities in the price of a trip in different markets or even just different days.

The price you pay for a ticket is driven by a number of variables: competition, types of passengers, the route and operating costs. But the biggest factor, by far, is whether discount airlines fly in a market. Low-cost carriers often set the price in markets because competitors feel compelled to match that price or risk losing customers and flying empty seats. And when they aren’t there, big airlines behave radically differently when setting prices.

It’s the number of competitors and the quality of the competition, said airfare analyst and consultant Bob Harrell.

The kinds of travelers in a market heavily influence what prices airlines charge as well. If the route has lots of business travelers—like Hartford to Washington—then airlines set prices high knowing customers will be less sensitive to higher prices. If the route is populated by price-sensitive travelers —think Florida cities and Las Vegas—then airlines set prices low in order to fill up planes.

Airlines are just saying, ‘What is the most I can get for that seat?’ said Bradley Seitz, president of Topaz International Ltd. which tracks and audits airfares for major corporations.

On the Hartford-Washington route, what they can get is a lot: The average price in the first quarter was $648 round-trip, or 99 cents per mile, according to the Department of Transportation, making that route one of the most expensive in the country per-mile. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines LUV 2.53 % charges far lower prices between Hartford and Baltimore, about 40 miles north of Washington, so the average ticket price was $236, or 42 cents per mile.

When Andrew Kowal made a trip to Washington from Hartford for meetings at the Capitol, his corporate travel department asked if he would fly to Baltimore instead. It made little sense to him to rent a car or buy a round-trip Amtrak ticket to get to Washington instead of simply flying where you want to go.

Think about the resources used if I went to Baltimore, he said. How could that be cheaper?

Business travelers pay more than twice as much per mile, on average, to fly from New York to London as they do from New York to Los Angeles, according to Topaz. In the second quarter, the average round-trip from New York’s Kennedy Airport to Los Angeles International Airport was $1,088, while the average ticket from JFK to London’s Heathrow Airport was $3,610, Topaz found in checking ticket purchases for companies.

Not only are business routes more expensive, but the London-bound travelers are more likely to buy business-class seats than the L.A. fliers. It’s more expensive, too, for airlines to operate internationally, and international ticket taxes are higher.

But the reality is that big airlines that fly to both Los Angeles and London from New York face low-fare airline competition on the domestic route, but not the international route, and so they charge far more. Bigger competitors often match prices of discount carriers like Virgin America, which had 20% of all passengers flying between JFK and LAX in the first quarter, according to consulting firm Oliver Wyman Group’s PlaneStats database.

And when there’s not low-fare competition, prices soar. The most-expensive average domestic ticket in the first quarter was $786 for round-trip flights between San Francisco and Philadelphia, according to the DOT. That 2,521-mile route is dominated by United and US Airways, who are competitors but also partners in the Star Alliance. Fly to Boston from San Francisco—183 miles farther by air than Philadelphia—and you paid an average $296 less round-trip in the first quarter, according to DOT. The difference: JetBlue Airways JBLU 3.23 % has 17% of the San Francisco-Boston market, but none of the San Francisco-Philadelphia market.

High fixed costs do make short routes more expensive, per mile. But airport costs like terminal rents and landing fees and even the expense of buying or leasing jets, pale in comparison to the two biggest expenses at airlines: labor and fuel. Both go higher as flights get longer.

    Norway – Lonely Planet #africa #travel

    #norway travel

    Introducing Norway

Norway is a once-in-a-lifetime destination and the essence of its appeal is remarkably simple: this is one of the most beautiful countries on earth.

    Stirring Landscapes

The drama of Norway’s natural world is difficult to overstate. Impossibly steep-sided fjords of extraordinary beauty cut gashes from a jagged coastline deep into the interior. The fjords’ fame is wholly merited, but this is also a land of glaciers, grand and glorious, snaking down from icefields that rank among Europe ‘s largest. Elsewhere, the mountainous terrain of Norway’s interior resembles the ramparts of so many natural fortresses, and yields to rocky coastal islands that rise improbably from the waters like apparitions. And then, of course, there’s the primeval appeal of the Arctic. Such landforms provide a backdrop for some of Europe ‘s most charismatic wildlife – polar bears (in Svalbard ), reindeer and musk oxen to name just three – and the setting for many a picturesque wooden village.

    Scandinavian Sophistication

The counterpoint to so much natural beauty is found in Norway’s vibrant cultural life. Norwegian cities are cosmopolitan and brimful of architecture that showcases the famous Scandinavian flair for design through the ages. At the same time, a busy calendar of festivals, many of international renown, are worth planning your trip around.

    Worth the Expense

If one topic above all others dominates conversations among travellers to Norway, it’s the formidable cost of travel here. Make no mistake: Norway is one of the most expensive countries on earth, which is yet another reason why saving up to come here is akin to planning the trip of a lifetime. But is it worth it? Absolutely: Norway will pay you back with never-to-be-forgotten experiences many times over.

    Why I Love Norway

    By Anthony Ham, Writer

The first time I stood on the waterfront at Aurland and contemplated the fjords, not long after having passed among the peaks of Jotunheimen National Park, I was utterly convinced that there was no more beautiful country anywhere on earth. On my many Norwegian journeys since then, in winter and in summer, I’ve never lost that feeling. Even more than the fjords and the high country, I now find myself drawn to the gravitas of Svalbard. to the perfect juxtaposition of water, rock and human habitation in the Lofoten Islands. and to the far horizons and Sami encampments of Norway’s Arctic North.

    The Call of the Wild

In Norway, nature is very much an active pursuit, and Norwegians’ passion for exploring their natural world has created one of Europe ‘s most exciting and varied adventure-tourism destinations. Some activities may only be for the young, energetic and fearless, but most – such as world-class hiking, cycling and white-water rafting in summer; dog-sledding, skiing and snowmobiling in winter – can be enjoyed by anyone of reasonable fitness. On our travels we’ve encountered 93-year-old snowmobilers and whole families racing down rapids. Whether you’re here in summer when the possibilities seem endless, or in winter for the soul-stirring spectacle of the northern lights, these activities are an exhilarating means of getting close to nature.

Custom Tours to Patagonia Argentina – Explore Patagonia Chile Now #cheap

The Patagonia Region Offers Natural Beauty Like No Other Place On Earth

If you’re thinking of visiting South America, consider the Patagonia region. The Patagonia region rests on the southern portion of South America, partially in connection with Argentina and Chile.

Since it was discovered, and word of its scenery was told, it has awakened fascination, curiosity, and desire for the remote, untouched, and mysterious. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and it is not mimicked anywhere else in the world.

The Patagonia region expands just south of the Colorado river in Argentina, wedged in between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. You can really get a feel for what nature looks like unscathed by man. It is a primitive, serene, raw, and awesome nature.

The semi-arid plateaus of the Eastern part of the Patagonia region are surreal to look at. The Western mountain ranges have deep valleys and canyons, are overspread with trees, and they are topped with snow and dotted with glaciers and lakes. The various elements’ combinations are what’s so breathtaking. It’s seeing all this raw nature in its purest form.

In Chile, the Patagonia region goes from the 8th region to down below to Tierra del Fuego island, connecting to an area of magnificent natural beauty and disarming sublimity. There are volcanoes, lakes, and forests too.

    Norway Travel Guide

A lot of people skip Norway because of how expensive it is. It s true that Norway is not a budget destination. Even the most frugal person will have a hard time saving money, which is why most travelers wait until they are older to be able to afford it. However, Norway is so amazingly beautiful that I think you should find ways to work it into your trip. The Norwegians are wonderful people; everyone speaks fluent English, and the sheer beauty of this country is too compelling to ignore. There is nothing like sailing around the fjords in the north. You could make it part of stopover on a large trip to Sweden or some nearby countries and Norwegian Air offers cheap tickets to Oslo.

    Destination Guides for Norway

    Typical Costs

Accommodation Like everything else in Norway, accommodation isn t cheap. Hostel dorm rooms cost between 200-500 NOK per night while private rooms are around 750 NOK for a single. Hotels begin at around 1,000 NOK per night for a double room. You can also camp on public lands for free if you have a tent.

Food Eating out is expensive, with fast food starting from 80 NOK and sit-down meals in a decent restaurant nearly always topping 285 NOK or more for a main course. McDonald s and Burger King value meals are around 125 NOK. For a cheap quick snack Norwegian-style, look no further than the nearest grill or convenience store, where you can eat a hot dog or sausage for around 30-50 NOK. If you are going buy your own food, expect to spend about 570 NOK per week. To keep costs down, avoid fresh vegetables and chicken fillets.

Transportation Trains around Norway cost between 300-610 NOK between cities, depending on the the distance and the time you buy them. If you book trains early enough, they will be on the cheap side. An extensive range of express buses connect cities all over Norway and even most national parks. If you re lucky, you can get a ticket for as little as 80 NOK, but usually the tickets go from 290-700 NOK, although they can cost over 815 NOK. The double decker buses are clean and modern with free wi-fi, coffee and tea.

Activities Norway is the land of fjords and seeing them is the most popular activity here. Most multi-day tours cost 1,050 NOK per day. You can find day tours to the fjords for around 400-650 NOK. Camping is free in Norway so as long as it is public land you can camp anywhere. Museums are usually 80 NOK.

    Money Saving Tips

Cook your own food Food is very, very expensive in Norway so the best thing you can do is it simply make your own meals. Go grocery shopping but skip buying lots of fresh vegetables such as peppers or whole chicken fillets as they are very expensive. Minced chicken is cheaper. Avoid eating out.

Eat cheap If you do decide to eat out, your cheapest options will be shwarma and pizza. These meals usually cost around 80 NOK.

Couchsurf The best way to avoid expensive hostels is to not stay there. Couchsurf or use Airbnb to rent an room or apartment so you can save your money for what is really important sightseeing and beer!

Camp Free public camping laws allow you to camp in the parks and public lands for free as long as you have your own tent.

Get a tourism card Attractions in Norway can get very expensive, especially since the exchange rate is so bad. The best way to afford all the attractions is to get a city tourism card so you can get free entry into all the attractions as well as free transportation.

Book in advance If you can plan your transportation in advance, you can save up to 50% off the cost of your train or bus tickets. Buying last minute means it s going to be more than any budget traveler can afford, especially if you want to visit a number of destinations in Norway.

Stay sober At 60 NOK per drink, going out will destroy your budget. While the Norwegians love to go out and have a good time, if you are on a tight budget, skip the drinks. Better to save your money for sailing around the fjords.

Top Things to See and Do in Norway

Check out the Fjords There is much beauty to behold in these narrow, deep sea inlets. Surrounded by high cliffs, the fjords of Norway are world renowned and are sure to exceed your expectations. Consider Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord. They are visited by roughly one million people every year.

Experience Bergen Lift off from Bergen’s city center and travel up Floyen mountain for amazing views of Norway’s second largest city. You are sure to enjoy the panoramic view and various hiking routes.  A must for those visiting Norway.

See the Stunning National Parks For the nature-loving traveler, Norway is host to some of the most spectacular natural beauty in the world. You will see everything from waterfalls and glaciers, to reindeer, lynx, and wolves, while you enjoy anything from caving and canyoning to rafting. Consider Jostedalsbreen National Park, host to the largest glacier in continental Europe.

See Trondheim Colorful, laidback, and filled with students, Trondheim is a fun place to party and meet new people. Bustling with various restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs, you are bound to have a great time, especially those of you studying abroad!

Journey to the North Cape The northernmost tip of Europe, Norway’s North Cape is great for hiking, trekking, driving tours and more. Explore the jagged coastline and Finnmark, which includes six national parks.  There is nothing quite like a day outdoors, in a foreign land.

Head North to Tromsø Perfect for a 24-hour party, Tromsø in the summer is a city that doesn’t sleep. Experience unbroken sunlight amidst the many pubs or if you happen to visit in the winter, catch the Northern Lights. Tromsø is one of the best places in the world for both.

Engage in some winter sports Norway is one of the top ski destinations in the world, so if you’re into it, hit the slopes!  Choose from any number of resorts, for snowboarding, telemark skiing, cross country skiing, or snowboarding. You won’t get many opportunities like this elsewhere!

Eat at the Bergen Fish Market Open daily, this market offers more than just fish—a must see for everyone. Explore the many stalls; snap some pictures, and check out the waterfront. Just a short walking distance from many museums and galleries.

Explore Oslo The capital of Norway is a beautiful city located on a fjord. There are great harbor tours, islands to explore, museums to see, people to meet, and food to eat. Even though Oslo is expensive, it s not to be avoided.

Visit Vigeland Sculpture Park If you are in Oslo, you should definitely check this out!  One of Norway’s most popular visitor destinations, this unique park is host to the world’s largest collection of sculptures executed by a single artist. Don’t miss this!

Walk Through Gamle Stavanger One of the oldests parts of Stavenger, this area is composed of small, rock streets, lined with old white wooden homes built during the 18 th century. Taking a walk down here is like going back in time. Be sure to take in the history and check out the various paintings, pottery, and more offered by local artists within the area.

Check out the Royal Palace Built during the first half of the 19 th century, the Royal palace is an interesting place to visit. Beyond the architecture, and historical significance, many come to see the changing of the guards. If you make it to Oslo. it is a neat stop to make during your afternoon adventure.

Tour the Ringve Music Museum and Botanical Garden Located in Trondheim, this a nice switch from your typical museum trip. Check out the awesome collection of musical instruments, walk around the park amidst the farm buildings, and enjoy lunch at the tea house. This is one of the most underrated stops in Norway.

Visit the Norwegian Folk Museum There are many museums throughout Oslo showcasing Norwegian history and Viking tales, but this is perhaps the most interesting. Cross the Fjord to Bygdoy, and immerse yourself in the history. The biggest attraction is the Gol Stave Church, dating back to 1200 AD, however there are many other attractions to see. It’s open air, so get ready to roam!

Attend the Stavanger Jazz festival If you are a jazz fan, you will definitely want to catch this!  Held every may, this festival is a weekend-long, fully-packed event, featuring several of the most well-known jazz artists in the world. The weather might be balmy, so make sure you grab your coat.

Cuba Travel: 5 Things to Know If You – re Thinking

    #cuba travel

Yesterday’s announcement that the U.S. will loosen restrictions on visiting Cuba has some travelers in tizzy. By all means, pack your bags—but read this first.

Did you hear that noise yesterday afternoon? It was the collective squeal of travelers around the country, upon learning that President Obama had announced the resumption of U.S diplomatic relations with Cuba. For many American vacationers, Cuba with its classic cars, mojitos, and fine cigars is a dream destination, but one that rigid travel restrictions have made difficult to visit. Yesterday s announcement didn t remove those strictures, but it did promise to relax them.

Ready to go? Here s what you should know.

    1. Don t expect anything to change overnight

While the new policy won t allow unrestricted tourism to Cuba (which would require an act of Congress), it will loosen restrictions on certain types of trips, according to a White House statement. So what exactly does that mean? There s plenty of speculation, but no one really knows the details just yet. On Wednesday afternoon, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), part of the Department of the Treasury, announced that it expects to issue its revised travel rules in the coming weeks. No changes will take effect until those new rules are released.

Currently, U.S. citizens who want to visit Cuba have a few options. Cuban-Americans with close family in the country can visit as often as they like, while other people may be permitted to go for professional, religious, or educational purposes. However, for the typical traveler, the most viable option is a people-to-people trip. These are super-regulated group tours, which must focus on educational and cultural interactions with Cubans. Many industry experts expect that the new rules will focus on loosening the restrictions around these existing forms of travel.

    2. Some prices may fall

According to Collin Laverty, president of trip provider Cuba Educational Travel. the typical cost of a group tour to Cuba is around $4,000 to $5,000. One reason prices are so steep, he explains, is that people-to-people trips must be highly scheduled, meaning they include all meals, guides, transportation, activities, and more. Plus, tour providers must stay on top of their permits and licensing, which requires manpower and lawyers fees. (Katharine Bonner, who oversees travel to Cuba for Tauck. says it took six months for the company to get its paperwork renewed.) Tom Popper, president of operator insightCuba. adds that Cuban travel suppliers tend to charge American firms a premium, which drives up the price of the tour.

If the new rules allow less rigorously structured tours, prices are expected to come down. And, should they allow for independent travel to the country, vacationers will likely be able to choose their lodging and itinerary, giving them more control over what they pay.

    3. but demand is likely to pick up quickly.

Travel to Cuba is already pretty popular. According to the Associated Press. 170,000 Americans visited the country legally last year, while Quartz report s that the island was the second most popular Caribbean destination for international travelers during the first nine months of 2014. As U.S. travel restrictions ease, trip providers say they expect demand to surge. For people who ve always wanted to go but never managed to pull the trigger, the idea that massive cruise lines could soon be adding Cuba to their itineraries may be what it takes to get them to book. People want to go before it changes, says Popper. The collective travel consciousness says this isn t going to last forever.

    4. The infrastructure isn t there yet.

For Canadians and other international travelers, Cuba is often seen as a sun-and-sand getaway rather than a cultural destination, says Laverty. As a result, there are a sufficient amount of hotels by the beaches, but once you get into Havana, there aren t enough rooms, he says. Until the country s tourism infrastructure has a chance to catch up, Americans looking to stay in the cities or countryside may have a tough time finding accommodations. Flights are also tricky. Right now, the only domestic commercial options are charters, all of which fly out of Florida.

    5. New options are coming.

Under the current system, travel companies that are licensed to take Americans to Cuba have something of a monopoly, says Laverty. While the new rules are unlikely to completely erode that advantage, they should make the industry more competitive and fuel new options for travelers. In the case of Cuba Educational Travel, that may mean adding some more independent, less full-service options. Says Laverty: We re ready to help people navigate these uncharted waters.
