Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology

Instructional Design Careers on the Rise

As the Internet and related technologies continue to evolve, businesses and school boards across the nation are turning to technology to more effectively engage learners; improve performance; and improve the quality of learning experiences. With a Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT), you can expand your skills in instructional design or instructional technology and learn to evaluate the impact of technology on learning. As a graduate of the program, you can enhance your teaching skills in K–12 settings or work as a learning designer in academic, corporate, military, and community settings.

World Campus has partnered with Penn State’s College of Education — regularly ranked among the nation’s best graduate schools by U.S. News World Report — to offer the master’s in LDT. Taught by the same nationally recognized faculty as our resident program, the online master’s is designed to help you successfully incorporate the use of the Internet and technology in your professional setting.

Choose the Online Graduate Program in Learning, Design, and Technology That Is Right for You

Penn State offers the Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology a Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Educational Technology Integration and a Postbaccalaureate Certficate in e-Learning Design.

Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology

This 30-credit program prepares graduates to use or design educational technologies, and to apply design thinking to support teaching and learning. Coursework in the LDT program enables teachers and design professionals to explore best practices in the field of learning design. Course activities challenge students to apply their understanding to practical, real-world problems, and encourage students to blend their personal and professional interests into their coursework

Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Educational Technology Integration

This 15-credit postbaccalaureate certificate is recommended for teachers and trainers who are interested in the hands-on aspects of technology integration in their professional settings. With proper planning from your adviser in the College of Education, this certificate can fulfill half of your requirements for the master’s degree, if you decide to apply and are accepted into the program.

Postbaccalaureate Certificate in e-Learning Design

This 12-credit postbaccalaureate certificate prepares you to design and deliver e-learning experiences in fields ranging from K–12 and higher education to professional development in business, health care, the military, and government. With proper planning from your adviser in the College of Education, this certificate can fulfill half of your requirements for the master’s degree, if you decide to apply and are accepted into the program.

Act 48 Approved

Penn State is an Act 48-approved provider for Pennsylvania educators, so the courses in both educational technology programs may count toward your professional development hours.

Please note that this program does not lead to initial teacher certification or the Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate. However, this program may help you to renew your teacher certification. Check with your state’s Department of Education for exact requirements for recertification.
