Touristlink.com uses social networking to connect travelers with local travel providers

Touristlink.com. a social network connecting travelers with local travel providers, announces new trip planning features set to launch in January of 2013. Travelers will be able to broadcast upcoming trip plans and then receive personalized offers from local travel businesses.

When a traveler publishes his trip plan it will be forwarded to relevant locals who can then pitch the best local travel deals that fit the travelers taste and interests. Travel business owners get a new marketing avenue by being able to pitch discounts on hotels, restaurant coupons, day trips, taxi services and more directly to interested travelers.

It’s easy enough to find hotels online but travelers looking for transport and activities have fewer options. Touristlink aims to solve this problem by bridging the gap between local travel businesses offering these service and the travelers who need them. Simplicity is the key to Touristlink’s new features that enable travelers to post a trip plan in seconds.

To get started travelers are only required to enter a location and a date or range of dates. Once a trip plan is posted local travel businesses are alerted and can contact the traveler personally with enticing offers.

One problem with social trip planning tools is that to be successful they require a certain amount of participation. Travelers will soon have a new website to search for hotel specials and travel packages.

Can’t Access a Specific Website? Here’s the solution.

Can’t access a specific website from your computer even though every one else can see it? Going nuts trying to find out why? Welcome to my world. I just spent 8 hours searching the net trying to figure out why and a solution. Here it is:

I’m not incredibly techie so this is just my understanding of what’s going on and the solution that worked for me. Hopefully this will help out someone else who can’t access a specific website:

The problem: The reason you can’t access a specific website if you are using a cable or broadband connection is because your router is set to obtain your IP address automatically. Usually this isn’t a big deal, but if your cable company did something funky recently to the way they cache’d the DNS or are working from an old cache, it can result in you not being able to access a certain website.

I haven’t figured out why the way they cache the DNS should affect you being able to see the site you want and I don’t really care, but apparently that’s the reason for your troubles now.

The solution: Set up a Static IP address. Luckily, this is pretty easy and painless.

Step by Step Instructions: I use Windows XP and this is how I did it.

1. Locate your current IP settings.

  • Click on the Start Button.
  • Click on Run. This will bring up a small box.
  • Enter cmd and click OK. This will bring up the DOS box.
  • At the C:// prompt type in ipconfig /all Note: there is a space between ipconfig and the /.
  • Hit Enter.

This will bring up a bunch of IP information. IP addresses are a series of numbers separated by dots.

2. Write down your IP settings.

  • Write down the following information and numbers associated with each:

IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Servers

Make sure to copy the information down exactly as shown. If you put a dot in the wrong place it can mess you up.

  • Type the word exit and click Enter. This will close the DOS box.

3. Go to your connection.

  • Click on Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click on Network Connections
  • On the network connection that you use to connect to the internet, right click on Properties.
  • You will see a list in the middle of the box where it says This connection uses the following items:
  • In that area you will see the following with check marks Client for Microsoft Windows , File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks , QoS Packet Scheduler and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) .
  • Click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP one time to highlight it.
  • Click Properties.

4. Set your IP address to Static IP.

  • Once in the Properties area of the Internet Protocol TCP/IP section, click where it says Use the Following IP Address.

(Note: if this is already checked for you and there are already numbers in there I don’t know why you can’t access a specific site. I would write down the numbers there in case this doesn’t work.)

  • Fill in the numbers that you wrote down earlier in the appropriate box. Make sure you enter the numbers exactly as you have written them down and the dots are in the right place.
  • The Use the Following DNS Server Addresses button should already be marked. If it isn’t click to mark it.
  • Enter the two DNS Server Addresses you have written down.
  • Click OK.

If you only have one DNS Server Address and you get an error, try putting the one you already have listed in the second DNS address box and change the very last number to the next highest number.

For example, if your DNS Server Address is Try to put this one in as your second DNS Server Address:

That should work. If it doesn’t check out your cable company’s Support page to find the address of two of their name servers. They should have these there. If not, contact them and ask them what the addresses are.

That’s it. You should now be all set and you should be able to see the website you couldn’t access earlier.

I hope this worked for you and you can now access the specific website you wanted to see.

The GoHyperlink() function (below) performs the same task as FollowHyperlink(), with improved control over the outcome. Like FollowHyperlink, you can use it to:

  • Open a browser to a webpage (http:// prefix)
  • Send an email (mailto: prefix)
  • Open a file, using the program registered to handle that type (Word for .doc, Notepad for .txt, or Paint for .bmp, etc.)

Why a replacement?

FollowHyperlink can be frustrating:

  1. Security warnings may block you, or warn you not to open the file (depending on file type, location, Windows version, permissions, and policies.)
  2. Files fail to open if their names contains some characters (such as # or %.)
  3. Errors are generated if a link fails to open, so any routine that calls it must have similar error handling.

GoHyperlink addresses those frustrations:

  1. It prepends file:/// to avoid the most common security warnings.
  2. It handles special characters more intelligently.
  3. Errors are handled within the routine. Check the return value if you want to know if the link opened.

It cannot solve these issues completely:

  1. If your network administrator will not allow hyperlinks to open at all, they will not open.
  2. If a file name contains two # characters, it will be understood as a hyperlink. Similarly, if a file name contains the % character followed by two valid hexadecimal digits (e.g. Studetn%50.txt), it will be be interpreted as a pre-escaped character rather than three literal characters.

These are limitations relating to HTML. But you will experience these issues far less frequently than with FollowHyperlink, which fowls up whenever it finds one of these sequences.

Using GoHyperlink()

To use GoHyperlink() in your database:

  1. Create a new stand-alone module in your database. Open the code window (Ctrl+G), and the New Module button on the toolbar (2nd from left on Standard toolbar.)
  2. Paste in the code below.
  3. To verify Access understands it, choose Compile on the Debug menu.
  4. Save the module, with a name such as ajbHyperlink .

You can now use GoHyperlink() anywhere in your database.

For example if you have a form with a hyperlink field named MyHyperlink, use:
Call GoHyperlink(Me.[MyHyperlink])

To open a file, be sure you pass in the full path. If necessary, use:
Call GoHyperlink(CurDir \MyDoc.doc )

The PrepareHyperlink() function can also be used to massage a file name so it will be handled correctly as a hyperlink.

Windows Script Host or WSH, is a Microsoft technology that provides scripting abilities like batch files, but includes many more features. Such Scripts can be run directly from the desktop by double-clicking a script file, or from a command prompt. It can be run from either the protected-mode Windows-based host wscript.exe. or the real-mode command shell-based host cscript.exe .

Several HTML malware have been reported to use WSH objects as a result of which, those who do not require this feature, tend to disable it. But disabling WSH, will prevent users from running any scripts, including VBScript and JScript scripts, that rely on this technology and some software may require this feature to be enabled.

Enable, disable Windows Script Host

To enable or disable Windows Script Host, type regedit .exe in Run box and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings

Double Click on it and give it Value Data 1 to enable it.

  • A value of 1 will enable Windows Script Host
  • A value of 0 will disable Windows Script Host.

Click on OK and exit the Registry. If you don t see this entry, then you may need to create it, as it does not exist by default in Windows.

You will now, no longer receive the Windows Script Host access is disabled on this machine. In this way you can enable or disable Windows Script Host.

Access (almost) all areas: the British passport is No.1 for visa-free travel

Holders are able to visit 173 of the world’s nations while Afghans can visit only 28 countries free of formalities

The British enjoy the widest range of visa-free travel on the planet. Along with citizens of Finland and Sweden, holders of UK passports are able to visit 173 of the world’s nations without applying for a visa.

The annual 2013 Henley Partners Visa Restrictions Index ranks countries according to the number of nations their citizens can access with just a passport. The results show that membership of the European Union is a key determinant of ease of movement across frontiers.

Nine out of 10 of the top countries are EU members: Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands join the leading three, with only the United States representing the rest of the world. Citizens of all these countries can travel to more than 170 other nations visa-free.

The least advantageous passports to possess remain the same as they have in previous years. Pakistan and Somalia tie for third-worst place, with just 32 nations allowing passport-only access. Citizens of Iraq can visit only 31, while the least popular nationality in terms of red tape is Afghanistan. Holders of passports issued in Kabul are able to visit only 28 countries free of formalities, with 87 per cent of the world’s nations putting up the shutters.

The compilers assert that there are 219 countries in the world. No nationality is able to access as many as 80 per cent of the destination countries, but there is a strong correlation between average wealth and access to open frontiers. The second group of 10 countries includes Canada, Japan, Norway, New Zealand and Switzerland.

The imbalance between ease of access for citizens of rich nations and the lack of openness displayed by those countries was revealed in a World Tourism Organization report, which reported that three-quarters of the world’s population requires a visa ahead of travelling to Europe.

In the Henley Partners survey there is a wide gap between the “old” EU and the “new”. Of the former Iron Curtain countries, Hungary performs best. Bulgaria and Romania are a long way down the list, sandwiched between Brazil and Barbados. Russians are allowed visa-free access to 95 countries, one more than citizens of Turkey and South Africa – the highest-placed African nation. South Africans are significantly better placed than the four lowest-placed European countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina (91), Albania (88), Belarus (61) and Moldova (59). The latter lies below Cuba, Kazakhstan and Zimbabwe.

Citizens of the two most populous nations are placed low in the listing. India, with 1.2 billion people, issues a passport that opens doors to only 52 countries – one fewer than Burkina Faso and Indonesia, the fourth-most populous. China, with 1.3 billion, rates only 44, behind Vietnam, Cambodia and East Timor. This week the Home Secretary, Theresa May, indicated that she will relax Britain’s tight visa rules in a bid to encourage more tourism from the People’s Republic. Citizens of Hong Kong and Macau, both autonomous regions of China, can travel to many more countries – 152 in the case of Hong Kong.

At the other end of the size and population spectrum, being small is no guarantee of accessibility. San Marino, Andorra and Monaco fail to break the 150 barrier, though Liechtenstein makes 159.

Neil Taylor, a guide and tour operator with wide experience of present and former communist countries, said there was evidence of individual locations over-riding national rules in order to attract tourists: “Russian visas remain complex, but if you take a cruise to St Petersburg you can dodge the red tape. The same applies to the 72-hour stopover scheme just introduced by several major gateways to China.”
