Afrika Reisen, Kompetent und individuell vom Spezialisten, travel to africa.#Travel #to

Afrika Reisen | Ein Kontinent f r jedes Reisebed rfnis

Afrika individuell – Folgen Sie Ihrer Intuition

Introducing Africa

Something special about Africa touches the soul; it is a continent of 54 immensely diverse countries that is both deeply troubled and profoundly uplifting.

Natural Beauty

Whether you’re a wide-eyed first-timer or a frequent visitor, Africa cannot fail to get under your skin. The canvas upon which the continent’s epic story is written is itself astonishing, and reason enough to visit. From the tropical rain forests of Central Africa to the endless rippling dunes and waterless tracts of the Sahara. from the signature savannah of the east to jagged mountains and green-tinged highlands all across the continent, Africa has few peers when it comes to natural beauty.

New Africa

Even as the past retains its hold over the lives of many Africans, just as many have embraced the future, bringing creativity and sophistication to the continent’s cities and urban centres. Sometimes this New Africa is expressed in a restless search for solutions to the continent’s problems, or in an eagerness to break free of the restrictive chains of the past. But just as often, modern Africans are taking all that is new and fusing it onto the best of the old. The continent is still prone to all the ills of humanity, but if you come with an open mind it’s easy to see how amazing Africa can be.

Wildlife Bonanza

A Noah’s Ark of wildlife brings these landscapes to life, with a tangible and sometimes profoundly mysterious presence that adds so much personality to the African wild. So many of the great beasts, including elephants, hippos and lions, call Africa home. Going on safari may be something of a travel cliché, but we’re yet to find a traveller who has watched the wildlife world in motion in the Masai Mara, stumbled upon the paradise that is the Ngorongoro Crater, or communed with gorillas in Uganda ‘s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and has not been reduced to an ecstatic state of childlike wonder.

Ancient Africa

But there’s so much more to Africa than nature’s considerable bounty. On this continent where human beings first came into existence, customs, traditions and ancient rites tie Africans to generations past and to the collective memory of myriad people. In many rural areas, it can feel as though the modern world might never have happened, and old ways of doing things – with a certain grace and civility, hospitality and a community spirit – survive. Welcome to Old Africa.

Why I Love Africa

By Simon Richmond, Writer

Some of my most evocative travel memories of Africa – amazing live concerts in the shadow of Table Mountain, the mad circus of Marrakesh ‘s Djemaa el-Fna – are musical ones. Boy, can this continent bang out a beat! Africa’s enormously talented musicians play homage to the traditions of the past at the same time as they push the boundaries of contemporary music. The fruits of their labours provide a constantly evolving playlist to the continent’s diversity and an unforgettable soundtrack to your African journey. The results can be stunning and are always unmistakeably African.

Map of Africa

Africa is a vast continent which, including island groups, holds 53 different countries. Africa stretches from temperate areas in the north to those in the south, and is crossed by the equator. The continent is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.

Hints and Tips for Africa

  • Double-check your visa requirements though many citizens do not need a visa for a stay of 30-90 days.
  • Expensive jewelry and fancy watches or cameras can make you a target for theft. At the same time, baggage theft is also known to occur in airports, so the best approach is to travel without too many valuables that cannot be replaced.

  • Some medicines Western tourists may take for granted such as Benadryl/Dimedrol or Advil PM contain diphenhydramine, which is illegal in Zambia and can lead to a fine or even jailing. If you plan on traveling with medicine, double-check the legality of the medicine in the countries you plan to visit.

  • If you do find yourself in a dangerous situation getting robbed, give the robbers whatever they are asking for and hopefully you will be relieved that you left your passport, and most of your credit cards and money back in a safe.

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa – BBC

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa

    21 August 2014

Image caption Kenya has not reported any cases of Ebola, but is a common transit point for African travellers

South Africa says non-citizens arriving from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa will not be allowed into the country, with borders closed to people from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

All non-essential outgoing travel to the affected countries has been banned.

Senegal also said it was suspending flights with Ebola-affected countries, and closing the border with Guinea.

Cameroon and the Ivory Coast earlier imposed travel bans, despite World Health Organization warnings not to.

    Medium-risk

South African nationals will be allowed to re-enter the country when returning from high-risk countries, but will undergo strict screening, the health ministry said on Thursday.

Usual screening procedures are in place for those who travel between Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, which have been defined as medium-risk countries.

Image caption Nigeria stepped up its airport screening procedures after a number of Ebola cases were confirmed

South Africa has experienced two Ebola scares in recent weeks, involving passengers arriving from Liberia and Guinea, but the country has so far remained Ebola-free.

Johannesburg has one of the major transit airports, connecting southern Africa with the rest of the continent. Several airlines, including British Airways and Emirates Airlines, have stopped flights to some of the affected countries.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s interior ministry announced on Friday it was closing the land borders with Guinea “once again”.

Senegal shut its border with Guinea for the first time in March after the virus reached the capital Conakry.

In a statement, it said this extends to “air and sea borders for aircraft and ships from the Republic of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia”.

    AU team

Separately, the African Union (AU) announced plans to send a special team to the four affected countries.

The six-month-long operation, involving volunteer doctors, nurses and medical personnel, will cost about $25m (£15m) and begin immediately, the AU said in a statement.

Aid workers and medical staff are most exposed to the virus, and have been most at risk of becoming infected. Two US aid workers were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, after recovering from the virus they contracted in Liberia.

The supply of the experimental drug used to treat the couple, ZMapp, has been exhausted.

As Ebola has no known cure, it is being controlled by isolating victims and those who have come into contact with them.

Liberia’s attempt to prevent the spread of the virus by imposing quarantines has led to unrest .

    South Africa

Hello Michele, We want to thank you for organising our extraordinary safari adventure in Southern Africa. Everything that we had planned worked seamlessly and efficiently in all three countries, including eleven airplanes (+helicopter), multiple lodges and hotels over nearly three weeks. We saw and experienced everything we could imagine for Africa and came home exhilarated (and healthy). A special delight were the staff at all the lodges in Botswana, who seemed so happy to meet with us, spend personal time with us, and treated us like honoured family guests. Our game viewing drives covered all manner of terrain and close up encounters with so many animals and birds in their natural surroundings, that we took over 900 photographs combined. The expert and knowledgeable guides soon became new friends. The food and accommodations were first class and individually special everywhere. We were busy the whole time, and the places you chose presented an exotic variety of experiences.

Some additional comments that did not detract from our delightful safari:

    * Night game drives with searchlights were OK, but somehow seemed intrusive and not too productive.

    * Nights and predawn drives were indeed cold despite hot water bottles, lush bedcovers, and vehicle blankets so we were happy to be there in June not August. We came well prepared with warm clothes, scarves and gloves and needed them on highway game drives we were surprised how cold those cottages with screens, Kanana and Okuti, were at night and early morning. The low temperature was 0 degrees Centigrade one morning and no higher than 10 degrees on other days.

    * Victoria falls was extraordinary but so full of mist that a later date would have been better (my error). The helicopter ride provided an expanded view, but seemed rather expensive.

Again, we congratulate Safari Consultants, for a complex network of arrangements between camps and transport operations that works flawlessly without delays across countries, rivers, airports etc.

We have recommended Safari consultants to all our friends here, and to our families in the UK.

Roger and Jean from California, USA travelled to South Africa, Botswana and Zambia

The Ebola Outbreak: Is It Still Safe To Go To Africa?

The Ebola Outbreak: Is It Still Safe To Go To Africa?

Over the last few weeks there has been extensive and often terrifying coverage of the Ebola outbreak in parts of West Africa, and our thoughts are with all those fighting this dreadful disease.

Whilst the coverage has highlighted that the disease is not airborne and can only be contracted by contact with body fluids from an infected person, we have had a number of people asking if it is safe to travel to South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana and other destinations in Eastern and Southern Africa.

The short answer is ‘yes – you can still safely travel to Africa’, however given the seriousness of the situation in West Africa we feel it is worth expanding on this. There are two key points to consider:

Africa is big – really. really big.

One thing that many people not involved with the travel industry are not aware of is just how huge Africa is. for example, the outbreak in West Africa is over 3500 miles away from Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, and over 3,000 miles from Botswana and Namibia. To put this into context, London is about 3000 miles from the affected area, so many of these places are further from the centre of the outbreak than the UK is.

You can get an idea of the sheer scale of Africa from this fascinating map from the Economist: http://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2010/11/cartography

Most of Africa has not had an outbreak of Ebola since records began in 1976

It is also worth noting that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there have been no reported cases of Ebola since records began in 1976 for Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe amongst others. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that South Africa was missing from that list: well, the only case in South Africa since records began in 1976 was a medical professional who travelled from Gabon to Johannesburg, after having treated Ebola virus-infected patients and thus having been exposed to the virus there. You can see a full history of outbreaks since 1976 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ebola_outbreaks

    In conclusion

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those currently fighting the the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa, however the safari and beach destinations of Southern and Eastern Africa are unaffected at present, and history suggests that they may well remain unaffected througout this outbreak.

Tour operators and airlines will continue to monitor the situation and the FCO travel advice, and if it is considered unsafe for travel by the FCO then people who have booked an ATOL protected package will be entitled to alternative travel arrangements or a refund.

We believe that you can still book with confidence and travel safely to Africa, and we look forward to showing you and your clients around this huge, spectacular and diverse continent.

Vaccinations and Travel to Africa – Africa Travel Vaccination Information

By Anouk Zijlma. Africa Travel Expert

Anouk Zijlma is an experienced travel agent, travel editor, and international traveler. She’s lived in Malawi and Kenya, and has traveled extensively throughout the continent. Here are some photos of Anouk enjoying herself in Africa.

Finding out what vaccinations and immunizations you need before you travel to Africa is an important part of planning your trip. This article will help you find out what shots you need to get, where to get them, and which ones come highly recommended so you can stay healthy when you visit Africa.

    Planning Your Vaccination Schedule

Some vaccinations, like that for Rabies. come in a series and you need to plan at least a few months ahead of your departure to fit them all in.

Your regular doctor probably won t be able to give you all the vaccinations you need, so you should contact the nearest travel clinic for an appointment. Click for Travel Clinics in the UK ; Travel Clinics in the US ; Travel Clinics in Canada .

Finding Out Which Vaccinations You Need

The health situation in most African countries requires visitors to be up to date with all common childhood vaccines. This includes Hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and polio. If you are traveling with children, make sure they have had all their shots.

You may also need to get boosters for tetanus, diphtheria and measles if you haven t had those in a while.

The following vaccinations are also highly recommended for travel to every African country:

    • Hepatitis A
    • Meningococcal meningitis
    • Rabies
    • Typhoid

    Recommended Vaccinations/Immunizations per Country

Some African countries have actual entry requirements and won t let you in unless you have proof you ve been vaccinated against a specific disease. The most common vaccination that you night need to get entry into a country is yellow fever .

Often, you need this only if you have traveled from a country where yellow fever is prevalent, so for those of you overlanding. it s wise to get the shot before you go. Here s a map of countries where yellow fever immunization is an entry requirement. Double check with the embassy of the country you are traveling to for the latest information. Recent changes in immigrations rules (2015) now allowed travelers from Zambia to enter Botswana and South Africa without having the proof of vaccination.

Proof of immunization against cholera used to be a entry requirement for a lot countries but is no longer so. Many doctors agree the vaccine is actually quite useless.

Countries in Africa also differ as to which diseases are prevalent and you have to adjust your vaccinations according to your specific destination. While everyone should get the recommended shots listed above, to find out what you need to get per country see this health and travel web site for recommendations. Just click on the country you are visiting for a list of the vaccinations you should get.

    Malaria

There is no vaccine for malaria. If you are traveling anywhere in sub-Saharan Africa you should probably take anti-malaria prophylactics. For more information see How to avoid malaria while traveling in Africa .

    Africa Airfare

    Major Cities in Africa

    Addis Ababa . Ethiopia

    Antananarivo . Madagascar

    Flight hacks

For cheaper tickets to Africa. consider the following :

    • Consider flying into bigger African cities like Nairobi or Johannesburg. There is a lot more competition going to those cities, and frequently better deals to them from other continents. For example, flying into Nairobi vs. Kilimanjaro airport can save you hundreds of dollars. Yes, it is a bit of a bus ride to get to Kili. but many savvy travelers use Nairobi and save big bucks.
    • For example when searching a flight from London to Kilimanjaro the price was $881 at two weeks notice but the flight from London to Nairobi priced at $793 for the same dates. Adding a stop in Dubai drops the price to $790 for planning two weeks in advance and to $611 for planning a month in advance. Click here to search this route
    • Take advantage of the low traffic days and fly mid-week
    • Try to travel during the shoulder season rather than high season. The continent is vast so it requires a bit of research

    Africa Travel Tips

Far from being one big homogenous cultural experience, Africa is an endlessly diverse continent with more than 50 countries (including several islands!) just waiting to be explored. And we have deals on airfare to Africa, flying into just about every single international airport in Africa!

Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia are popular destinations to visit in Northern Africa, while Tanzania and Malawi are the leaders in tourism crowds when it comes to East Africa. Western Africa is the best to visit if you plan to get off the beaten path and Southern Africa is popular for the safaris and game-viewing, with South Africa, Mozambique and Botswana being the most visited countries in the area.

    Best Tours in Africa

VoyageTrek connects discerning travelers with award-winning tour companies. You provide the basics, then we’ll find the best travel expert for your needs to book your tour.

For hundreds of years, a Grand Safari tour of Africa has marked the epitome of adventure for the well-heeled and bold. Sate your wanderlust on a whirlwind journey into the heart of the world’s second-largest continent. While Africa remains no less romantic and exotic than ever, tremendous advances in transportation and the encroachment of modern technology have made tourism more accessible and comfortable than in days of old. Once isolated and wild, sleepy Africa is gradually awakening to the world tourism. Indulgent resort-style vacation opportunities exist alongside the spartan camp-tent treks of old, affording the more enjoyable outdoor experiences with all the comforts and pampering of mainstream travel.

Perhaps the most surprising and enjoyable facet of Africa is its diversity. From the culture of its people to the natural landscape, Africa’s vastness is reflected in the tremendous range of variety to be found there. Africa’s boundaries contain both the world’s largest free-standing mountain (Mt. Kilimanjaro), and the Djibouti’s Lake Assal, the second-lowest place on Earth. The saltiest lake outside Antarctica is here, as well as the hottest place on the globe. The cradle of human civilization can be traced to Africa, as can thousands of years of history that came after: the pyramids of Egypt, the Roman theater of Libya, and Old Mogadishu all stand witness to the passage of time. From the vast wilderness of the Serengeti or the salt pans to the bustling, modern cities of South Africa, just about every degree of life is represented.

Your modern-day African adventure will encompass all sorts of diversions, from camping beneath the stars, white-water rafting, hot air balloon safaris, and jungle treks to fine dining and exploring world-class museums. Natural wonders, manmade marvels, and a dizzying assortment of animal life await you here. Africa’s a big place, and visiting everything it has to offer is well outside the ability of any one traveler. Rest assured, though, that anywhere you go, you are guaranteed a voyage you’ll remember for a lifetime.

    Africa Top Sights

    Kenya

The game parks of Kenya set the standard for exotic beauty. Prominent among them are Masai Mara, which is contiguous with Tanzania’s Serengeti, and the storied Nairobi National Park. Lions, cheetah, and leopards abound in Masai Mara, which is also famous for fantastic viewing of the annual wildebeest migration. Perhaps the best way to experience this extraordinary movement is above, by hot air balloon! Nairobi is one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, in addition to the home of the eponymous national park. Dance all night in the bustling Westlands district, where both expats and locals come to party, or bargain for treasures at the hectic and colorful Maasai market. Another must-see: Sibiloi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of tremendous archaeological significance for the discoveries it has yielded towards our understanding of the origin of man.

    Madagascar

A world of curious, but undeniable charm awaits you in Madagascar. You’ll come face-to-face with the most famous Malagasy residents: lemurs! There’s nearly a hundred different species of these quirky cuties, the stars of the show on any jungle trek. Take a sunset cruise in a pirogue while staying in “Tana,” the capital, and tour the hilltop palace of Ambohimanga. World-class snorkeling and sunbathing can be found on the island getaway of Nosy Be, as well as tours of ylang-ylang plantations fragrant with the intoxicating perfume of a million golden blossoms. The old royal city of Fianarantsoa features exquisite Arabian minarets and winding alleys reminiscent of hand-tinted picture postcards. Wine tours and shopping the historic market are prominent attractions here. Then ascend to the strange, compelling limestone peaks of Tsingy de Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site distinguished by untouched wilderness and fascinating ecotourism.

    South Africa

Cosmopolitan, historic South Africa is riddled with cultural diversity and scenic loveliness. It is one of the most liberal areas of the continent, and a popular tourist destination. Cape Town derives its name from the original Portuguese name, “the cape of good hope,” and is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Just about everything you could ever want in a vacation can be found in Cape Town: cable car rides to the top of Table Mountain, worshipping the sun from the sweeping beaches of False Bay, wine tasting, and deep sea fishing. Diverse, huge Johannesburg is richly steeped in history. Learn about gold mining (in which South Africa corners the world market), visit the old fort at the base of Constitution Hill, or pop in on the sleek beauties at Lion Park. You’ll want to watch your oranges in Addo Elephant National Park, in the Eastern Cape region, where the gentle giants for whom the preserve was named and created will snatch treats right from your car! A 4×4 tour of the park affords ample opportunities to view zebras, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos.

    Tanzania

Tanzania is a real up-and-comer in the world tourism scene, and with good reason. The wilds of this equatorial paradise beckon with enormous game reserves, exciting safaris, and the promise of nights spent beneath the starriest skies you can imagine. The cauldron of Ngorongoro Crater is a singular marvel, a mixing bowl of tens of thousands of wild animals sheltered by the steep lip of the caldera. The highly endangered black rhino can be spotted here, along with lions and bull elephants. The endless plains of the Serengeti offer the chance to safari by car, foot, or hot air balloon! You can lunch beneath a shade tree and sneak a peek of zebra and wildebeest. There’s no better viewing spot of the Great Migration. Gaze upon the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, and brave a climb to the top. The ascent, while lengthy, is not especially demanding as far as mountain climbing goes—this makes it quite popular and widely accessible. Or escape to the spice island of Zanzibar, a paradise of sparkling seas and white sand located twenty-two miles off the mainland.

    Botswana

Exclusive, luxurious, and unspoiled… there is nothing quite like Botswana. Private safari camps afford the chance to brush with wildlife from the lap of luxury. You’ll sip champagne within a traditionally-styled camp tent, and peek at giraffes and exotic birds while basking poolside beneath the Southern African sun. Encounter bushmen on the fringes of the vast Kalahari Desert, and scoop up hand-crafted treasures like seed jewelry and books of art. You’ll roast dinner over a roaring fire beneath the endless expanse of the night sky, forging new friendships and cementing old ones for a lifetime. Safaris of the Okavango Delta offer glimpses of meerkats, Nile crocodiles, lions, and hippos amidst stunning natural beauty. The vast, inhospitable salt pans of Makgadikgadi are the largest in the world. The dry savanna is home to ostriches, plovers, flamingos, and zebra, and off road tours by bike or quad vehicle are popular. On the opposite end of the topological spectrum is the verdant jewel of Chobe National Park, The “big 5” game species (elephants, lion, leopards, buffalo, and rhino) live here, and high-end safari lodges situated in in midst of the park give you the chance to get up-close and personal with these grassland superstars.

    Zambia

It has been said that the closest thing to a taste of “real Africa” can be found in Zambia. While outstanding safaris, authentic tribal villages, and numerous cultural celebrations all beckon visitors, the real star of Zambian tourism is Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Called “the smoke that thunders,” the falls are both breathtakingly wide and precariously deep. Canoeing the peaceful waters above the falls and white-water rafting the turbulent rapids below both offer excellent opportunities to enjoy Vic Falls all day long. Plentiful food and drink and great company are hallmarks of either type of adventure. Sunset cruises of the Zambezi are romantic and lingering, a must-do activity for couples. Thrillseekers can bungee jump or gorge-swing with the natural advantage of the heights, or take a helicopter tour for a slightly less hair-raising aerial appreciation of the sights.

Our end-to-end safety solutions, together with additional devices like the MiX Rovi or RIBAS Display, have become well-known as powerful risk reduction tools.

The right tools can make light work for our customers who need to comply with stringent HSE regulations.

Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) regulations differ from country to country, and are further determined by industry. While this can’t be changed, we can help to manage the related challenges.

MiX Telematics offers a range of customizable tools to help customers maintain the highest possible levels of safety and compliance. This includes a solution to manage Hours of Service (HOS) and IFTA regulations in the US, DTCO downloads in Europe, and electronic work dairies in Australia.

    Home Loans – Approved Loans

    What is a Home Loan?

Every person wants a home, may it be an apartment, a mansion or just a simplex. Whether you are refinancing a bond/mortgage or purchasing your little paradise, you sure will need to have a home loan that you is just right for you. There are a lot of financial institutions or lending companies or even banks which offer hassle- less home loan processing.

First time home buyers usually get a home loan more easily. There is a wide variety of programs that have restrictions that come with the contract. Others find this too perfect for them, but for some, this may be a wrong choice.

    First time home buyer loan

All first- times can be a big deal. It consumes too much time, effort and money. Some people usually seek the aid of a first time home loan to hurdle the issues with money. The program varies depending on the location but generally, the idea of a first time home loan is to give qualified borrowers the financial assistance.

Some financial institution would offer the home loan in the following way:

    • Low to no down payment
    • Limit fees
    • Defer payments and offer grants
    • Subsidize the cost of the interest

These are but a few examples of the benefits first time home buyers may take advantage of but take note that not everything in the list can be made available for you to take advantage of.

Who can take advantage of a home loan?

Anyone can take advantage of a home loan; but first time home owners are good candidates. Some programs usually offer home loans to people who have not owned a home within the last 3 years. Again, programs vary depending on the area so it is good to check if any lending company or institutions offer this in you area.

    Are there any restrictions?

Like any other, home loans also have restrictions. Most of home loan programs put a R limit on the property that you are going to purchase. You may not be able to get a home loan for the most expensive property round the town but you will instead be limited to properties that are at the bottom of the pyramid. The idea is to provide margin and benefit to people who are in dire need.

It is not advisable to use the first time home buyer loan for a rent. You are given the opportunity to own a home so grab it. Finally, the house that you are to purchase must also meet some physical requirements.

    The challenges.

You may be faced with a few challenges when getting a first time home buyer loan:

    • The home may not be the home you want
    • You may lose the benefits if you sell your house too soon
    • Paying tax for some benefits you received
    • Shared home value increase with the program you signed up with

With these restrictions, you will be armed with knowledge when you decide to get a home loan for you family. It is a must for you to find out the ups and downs of something before you even decide of saying yes to it.

    Home Loan FAQs

A home is an important asset especially if you have a family. This is where you raise your children, eat, sleep and entertain family and friends. Owning a home is better than renting since you are building up equity. Is a home loan right for you then?

There are First Time Home Buyers programs out there. Check with the local lenders to find out.

You can often refinance at local bank with no closing cost home equity loan. That is, provided that you meet standard ratios of debt to income, that you have adequate equity in the home, and that your credit is very good. If you do not meet these qualifications, then you need to go elsewhere for a more traditional home equity loan.

The structure is not uncommon. Most often than not, the buyer has little to put down.

The credit score will be a bit low so the buyer will be hit by a high interest rate.

Watch out for prepayment penalties as that is also common with such a deal when the credit score is average to low.

Best Time to Visit South Africa

Often referred to as Sunny South Africa , this phrase is not far wrong. South Africa, and Southern Africa in general has some of the more agreeable weather in the world and for most of the year. However the best time to visit South Africa depends on the purpose of your visit, and the areas you wish to see. The seasons in South Africa run opposite to the northern hemisphere and therefore a white Christmas is out of the question! The best time to visit South Africa really depends on your interests or reasons for coming to South Africa. Wildlife Safaris are often very high on the agenda, followed by the Garden Route, Cape Town, the whales of the south coast. the flowers of Namaqualand, the Drakensberg Mountains and of course the hundreds of kilometers of beach destinations to choose from.

The seasons fall in the year as follows:

    Spring – September October

    Summer – November to February

    Autumn – March April

    Winter – June – August

South Africa can be divided into summer rainfall areas and winter rainfall areas. The northern, central and east parts of South Africa, which include areas of interest such as: Kruger National Park, Johannesburg, Kwa Zulu Natal, Madikwe Game Reserve, Drakensberg Mountains and the Free State, has a summer rainfall, and cool and dry winters.

The Western Cape and Garden Route areas, which include Cape Town and surrounds and all along the southern coast to about Port Elizabeth, has winter rainfall and dry summers. The northern interior part of the country has a very low annual rainfall, and is considered to be semi-arid to desert in places.

In the summer rainfall areas, the rain comes predominantly in the forms of thunder showers or down pours, which may last anything from 20 minutes to heavy rain on and off over a few days. However the maximum average daily temperature varies between 28 – 35 deg cel, depending where in this region you are. As a result of the summer rains and associated warm sunny weather, the vegetation is very green and often thick. From a safari perspective, the summer months (often referred to as the green season), is the best time to see the African bush at its greenest. The birdlife is at its best, and it is the calving season for many of the antelope species. The sunsets during this time of year can be a riot of pinks and reds and the air is generally very clean. The negative side to being on safari during the green season is that fact the bush is thick and therefore visibility can at times be limited. Another factor to consider is that surface water scattered all over the bush, causes game movements to become less predictable, in that there is now no reason for animals to go and drink at the traditional permanent water holes and rivers as they would have done in the dry season.

During dry season (the winter months), this region turns into shades of yellow and browns. The night time temperatures can vary between 0 – 12 degrees cel, depending on what part of the region you are in. It is during this season and into spring that it s considered the best time to go on safari. Many trees and shrubs lose their leaves, the grass drops and becomes grazed and so the visibility increases dramatically. The surface water (pans and puddles) that were present in the summer months dry out and game movements become a little more predictable.

The winter rainfall areas of the Western Cape and Garden Route tend to be green in winter and less so during summer. The rains typically come in the form of cold fronts that sweep in from the south, bringing with them rain, cold and often wind. These cold and rainy spells can last 2 – 3 days, but are invariably followed by what can be only be described as champagne days – crystal clear air, blue skies and brilliant colours. The summer months are typically warm to hot and a great time to explore Cape Town and the Garden Route. During the mid-summer months of December and January, the south-easter wind (locallly referred to as the Cape Doctor for its air cleansing habits), can arrive and hang around for a day or even a week and has been known to ruin expensive hair-dos, but at the same time raise the level of excitement of windsurfers, sailors and kite flyers!

Best time to visit South in terms of Activities

To sum up the areas, below is a good idea of when its best to do what activities

    * South African Safaris are best from May – October (dry season)

    * To visit the Cape Graden Route, the best time would be the summer months. in particular Febraury March.

    * The best time to see whales off the Cape s coast is July – October

    * The wild flowers of the Western Cape Namaqualand are best seen in early spring (August September)

    * The Drakensberg Mountains are best seen during the summer months (October – February)

    Hi Kalei,

You would probably be better served by setting up a new thread with your questions regarding Intrepid. This thread is a little old, and your questions would receive a better response on a new post.

However. to follow on about Tucan. considering the title.

I guided a trip for Tucan last year. Out of all the operators I ve guided for, I would rate them as amongst the worst.

The route was poorly constructed and they proved one of the most badly organised and unprofessional overland operators I ve dealt with. They worked with a local ground handler whose considerable efforts salvaged a potentially disastrous tour. Tucan blatantly ignored all local information and advice, claiming they knew better .

I, as the tour leader, received the actual itinerary something like 3 days before commencement, and vital issues were still under discussion when the tour started. I only helped out because no one else could (or would).

We spent the last night, in Cape Town. in probably the worst backpackers accommodation I ve ever seen. It was a disgrace (and they had only booked for one of their two groups staying there – they d forgotten the second one). The other Tucan group had similar experiences of Tucan s sheer incompetence and lack of local understanding.

At one stage, we were surrounded by a gang of AK47-wielding gunmen, despite my warnings to Tucan that the routing was not recommended for safety reasons (unfortunately a single guest, of a group of 9, had demanded that we stick to the orginal itinerary). She found the experience quite exciting .

I would certainly never recommend the company in Southern Africa.

I would, however, recommend Intrepid on most of their SA products.

    Travel to Africa

    Pages In this Section:

Theater entry requirements are determined by the Combatant Commander (COCOM) and listed in the DoD Foreign Clearance Manual/Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG)

US Africa Command theater entry requirements pertain to all DoD military, civilian, and contractor personnel travelling in any capacity into and within the US Africa Command Area of Responsibility.

    • Theater Clearance requests will be completed via the Aircraft and Personnel Automated Clearance System (APACS). APACS allows simultaneous processing of Country, Theater, and Special Area clearances. NIPR APACS is the default submission mode unless travel is classified or involves VIPs.
  • All DoD and DoD-sponsored travel in the U.S. Africa Command Area of Responsibility requires Theater Clearance approval from the Commander, U.S. Africa Command prior to travel. The security situation in Africa can be very fluid. Travelers must track current events and should not fire and forget after submitting APACS. If the situation deteriorates, clearance can be revoked.
  • Unless traveling as part of a joint unit or under the Force Protection Responsibility of the Embassy, travelers normally fall under AFRICOM CDR FP responsibility exercised by the Service Component Command Africa to which they belong, i.e. USARAF, NAVAF, AFAF, MARFORAF, SOCAF, CJTF-HOA.
  • AFRICOM CDR requires Chain of Command review and approval of all DOD travel to the AFRICOM AOR, whether official or leave, and regardless of who holds FP Responsibility once in country.
  • The Review and Approval Statement from the SENDING unit s Chain of Command affirms to the AFRICOM CDR that the traveler is prepared and briefed for medical, criminal, environmental and behavioral threats. CDR AFRICOM never sees the travelers or their preparations; he relies on the Chain of Command to conduct this review and grants approval partially on that basis.

NOTE: There are serious criminality and health risks for which travelers must prepare prior to travel and which are not reflected by the FPCON (terrorism) level.

  • Combatant Commander s Theater Entry Training/Requirements

APPLIES TO BOTH OFFICIAL TRAVEL AND LEAVE TRAVEL

    • Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) Level 1 training within one (1) year of travel. (Located on NIPR at: https://atlevel1.dtic.mil/at )
    • Level A SERE training in support of the Code of Conduct (CoC or Service Equivalent (initial or continuation training) within 36 months prior to entering the US Africa Command AOR.
    • SERE 100.1 computer-based training satisfies the level A requirement. (This training can be found on Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) page http://jko.jfcom.mil. course number J3T A-US022 .)
    • Electronic Digital Isolated Personnel Report (ISOPREP) submitted via the SIPR based Personnel Recovery Mission Software (PRMS) or Army Knowledge On-Line (AKO) PRO-File tool. Submitted or reviewed within one (1) year of travel to ensure currency of information and familiarity with content.
    • Written Force Protection Plan (see Formats below) for travelers under CDR AFRICOM and Service Component Africa Force Protection Responsibility (enter FP Plan date in APACS)
    • Personnel Recovery Plan (see Formats below) submitted to your Component Personnel Recovery Control Center. Personnel Recovery preparation is required to prepare for a situation when a traveler needs to be located after they become isolated, whether through accident (e.g. vehicle breaks down en route to a location), political turmoil (e.g. riot) or criminal/terrorist action (e.g. kidnapping). Travelers should prepare for self sustainment for 96 hours in case of isolation. All DoD travelers need a communication capability to alert PR personnel to isolation, a procedural check-in plan and emergency supplies/first aid kit/survival gear.
    • Medical requirements for travel to the AFRICOM Theater IAW Tab A to Appendix 6 to Annex Q to CDRUSAFRICOM Theater Campaign Plan 7000-12- Medical Readiness Requirements for Deployment and Travel include:
      • Current PHA (or physical exam)
      • Medical waiver, if required
      • Current dental exam (Class I or II)
      • Current vaccinations (Yellow Fever and Polio vaccines must be documented in yellow shot card)
      • Completed labwork (HIV, G6PD, TB, DNA) IAW Service guidelines
      • Anti-malarial medications, if required
      • Permethrin-treated uniforms (at least 3) or civilian clothes (at least 2 sets)
      • Command-issued pre-treated bednet and DEET
      • Personal medications or medical equipment, if required
      • Medications for common traveler illnesses (such as diarrhea)
      • First aid kit on hand
      • Review of Food Safety briefing located at: http://phc.amedd.army.mil/phc%20resource%20library/deployment_food_risk_briefing.pdf
      • Review of General Health Counseling briefing located at: https://www.africom.mil/newsroom/document/10870/-general-health-counseling
    • You may use the Travel Health Form in this website to facilitate the completion of all medical requirements, and enter the completion date on your APACS request.
    • Mandatory statements in the Theater Required Information box on the Itinerary Tab of APACS apply to both official and leave travelers.
    • Requirements for official and leave travel are essentially identical. Mosquitoes, ticks and infectious diseases do not differentiate who is on which kind of travel either or for how long.

MEDICAL EVACUATION: NOTE for FEDERAL CIVILIAN TRAVELERS:

U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) will fund medical evacuation travel and transportation expenses of federal civilian employees when in direct support of USAFRICOM tasked mission requirements, normally reflected through message or order, and funded by USAFRICOM, on temporary duty (TDY) as indicated below. Consistent with the Joint Travel Regulation, expenses are authorized when an employee discontinues/interrupts a TDY travel assignment before completion because of an incapacitating illness or injury not due to the employee s misconduct. Expenses are allowed for return travel to the employee s permanent duty station.

    (1) USAFRICOM will use the established Department of State (DoS) evacuation process/procedure, to include utilization of DoS contracting authority. USAFRICOM has issued a letter of intent to the U.S. Embassies in Africa, indicating that it will fully fund federal civilian employee medical evacuation transportation services incident to TDY travel in support of USAFRICOM mission requirements. Air medical evacuation will occur when deemed necessary by competent medical authority, validated by the Theater Patient Movements Requirements Center-Europe and approved by the appropriate USAFRICOM travel authorizing/approving official.

    (2) Federal civilian travelers who are not travelling in direct support of a USAFRICOM mission (e.g. in support of their own or another agency s mission) should contact their supporting organization for clarification of medical evacuation guidance that pertains to them. Contractors will not normally be covered under the USAFRICOM policy and should coordinate with their company to determine the conditions of their contract.

    (3) Federal civilian employees are at liberty to consider alternative modes of medical evacuation support, to include a medical evacuation insurance policy or coverage through various Federal Employee Health Benefit providers. USAFRICOM makes no endorsements or representations regarding the quality or scope of coverage or services offered by these alternative support mechanisms. Expenses incurred by Federal civilian employees for such medical evacuation support or insurance will not be reimbursed.

    (4) This information does not apply to unofficial travel.

Health Information for Travelers to South Africa – Traveler view #london

    #travel to south africa
    #

    Vaccines and Medicines

You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some vaccines may also be required for travel.

Get travel vaccines and medicines because there is a risk of these diseases in the country you are visiting.

Ask your doctor what vaccines and medicines you need based on where you are going, how long you are staying, what you will be doing, and if you are traveling from a country other than the US.

When traveling in South Africa, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent malaria. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria, depending on your travel plans, such as where you are going, when you are traveling, and if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or sleeping outside. Talk to your doctor about how you can prevent malaria while traveling. For more information on malaria in South Africa, see malaria in South Africa.

Rabies can be found in dogs, bats, and other mammals in South Africa, so CDC recommends this vaccine for the following groups:

    • Travelers involved in outdoor and other activities (such as camping, hiking, biking, adventure travel, and caving) that put them at risk for animal bites.
    • People who will be working with or around animals (such as veterinarians, wildlife professionals, and researchers).
    • People who are taking long trips or moving to South Africa
    • Children, because they tend to play with animals, might not report bites, and are more likely to have animal bites on their head and neck.

There is no risk of yellow fever in South Africa. The government of South Africa requires proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. This does not include the US. If you are traveling from a country other than the US, check this list to see if you may be required to get the yellow fever vaccine: Countries with risk of yellow fever virus (YFV) transmission .

For more information on recommendations and requirements, see yellow fever recommendations and requirements for South Africa. Your doctor can help you decide if this vaccine is right for you based on your travel plans.

Best Time to Visit South Africa #travel #ireland

    #travel to africa
    #

When to Go in South Africa #travel #to #germany

    #travel to south africa
    #

    When to Go

Roughly speaking, the summer months are December to March, autumn is April to May, winter is June to August, and spring is September to November. Because southern Africa is such a large area, and each region’s offerings change with the seasons, when you go may determine where you go.

The Coast — South Africa’s southwestern coast (the province known as Western Cape) tends to attract the majority of international visitors during the summer months. Fortunately, the country is big enough to absorb these increased numbers without causing the discomfort most people associate with busy seasons, though parts of Cape Town become unbearably full for locals’ tastes. Be aware, however, that accommodation prices do increase in summer, some by as much as 70%; and if you dislike crowds, you should try to avoid South Africa’s coast during the busiest school holidays, which — like elsewhere — take place from around mid-December to mid-January. In fact, the hot months of February and March are considered by most Northern Hemisphere dwellers to be the best times to visit; not least, to escape what by then has felt like a very long winter up north. April, too, is a great month to visit, when the light takes on a softer hue, sunsets are often spectacular, and balmy temperatures are preferable for those who dislike baking heat. Note, though, that you’ll need to book early if your visit coincides with Easter weekend, when you will compete with locals on their 10-day school vacation.

Depending on your interests, winter (June-Aug) brings substantial benefits, too: July to November are the months when the Southern Right whales migrate to the Cape’s southern coast, providing the best land-based whale-watching in the world (and plenty of opportunities to see them by boat). With the Cape a winter rainfall area, local tourism authorities have aptly dubbed the May-to-August period its “green season,” and indeed the Cape’s valleys and mountains are an ideal verdant backdrop to dramatic displays of fynbos (shrublike plant) in flower. While it can at times rain continuously, the pattern is usually broken every few days with balmy, sun-drenched days. It’s a wonderful time for Capetonians, who get to air their winter coats for only these few months and reclaim the city, now virtually empty of visitors, as their own.

If you’re at all hankering for the sun, plan to head to the Garden Route and Karoo, preferably along Route 62, where year-round sunshine ensures that any time of year is a great time to tackle a driving tour of this region. Winter is also the ideal time to visit the east coast of Kwazulu-Natal, which can be oppressively humid in summer.

October to November is when the Cape floral kingdom again wows her human inhabitants with a new batch of flowering species, while the beaches, still relatively empty, sparkle in the temperate sun, and guesthouses and hotels, hungry after the winter wait, offer some of the best deals of the season.

Inland — May to August are considered the best months for sighting big game in and around Kruger National Park. The foliage is less dense, malaria risk is lower, yet many of the private game reserve lodges drop their prices substantially.

June to October, however, is peak season in the Delta, Botswana; game-viewing is best at this time, thanks to the rains. Given the low-volume approach to tourism, lodges are booked months in advance, despite charging top dollar. The Delta is often combined with a visit to Victoria Falls, but the Falls are widely considered most impressive in full flood, between March and May, when some 500 million cubic liters of water cascade into the Batoka gorge every minute. The spray can obscure views, however, and prohibit riding the Batoka’s Grade 5 rapids — renowned in rafting circles as one of the most exhilarating rides in the world — as they are out of bounds when the falls are in flood.

    The Climate

Depending on where you are, average maximum temperatures can vary from 80°F (27°C; Cape Town) to 90°F (32°C; Kruger National Park) in the summer, and from an average 69°F (21°C; Cape Town) to 77°F (25°C; Durban) in winter. While summer is the most popular time, high humidity in KwaZulu-Natal can make for muggy days, and gale-force winds often occur in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Winter visitors would be well advised to pack warm clothes, despite higher average temperatures than in the United States or Europe. South African buildings are not geared for the cold; insulation is low on the priority list, and central heating is nonexistent. Temperatures in the interior fluctuate wildly in winter; you’re best off layering.

    Rainfall

South Africa is generally considered an arid region; two-thirds of the country receives less than 500mm (20 in.) of rain a year. In the interior, rain usually falls in the summer, and spectacular thunderstorms and the smell of damp earth bring great relief from the searing heat. The Garden Route enjoys rain year-round, usually at night. In Cape Town and surrounds, the rain falls mostly in the winter, when the gray skies are a perfect foil for the burnt-orange strelitzias, pink proteas, and fields of white arum lilies — and an equally good accompaniment to crackling fires and fine South African red wines.

    Holidays

If you are traveling during the South African school holidays, make sure you book your accommodations well in advance. (Check exact school holiday dates with South African Tourism, as provinces differ, but they usually run 4 weeks in Dec and Jan, 2 weeks in Apr, 3 weeks in June and July, and 1 week in Sept.) Flights can also be impossible to find, particularly over the Christmas holidays. Easter holidays (usually late Mar to mid-Apr) can also be busy, while the Kruger is almost always packed during the winter vacation (mid-June to mid-July). There’s another short school break in spring, from late September to October 7.

    Zimbabwe/Zambia

Zimbabwe and Zambia’s climates are similar to that in South Africa’s northern provinces, with a rainy season in summer, mostly between December and mid-March. Summers are warm to hot (late Oct-Dec can be uncomfortable), and winters are mild. Malaria is still a danger in many areas. There are tsetse flies in parts of the Zambezi Valley and in the southeast. And certain rivers, lakes, and dams are infected with bilharzia. Victoria Falls are often at their fullest around mid-April, at the end of the rainy season (Nov-Apr), though this is also when the mist created by the falling water may obscure the view and malaria-carrying mosquitoes are at their most prolific. Temperatures range from 90°F (32°C) in October and November to 60°F (16°C) in June and July. Many think the best time to see the falls is from August to December, when the view is clearer (though the flow of the water is at its lowest). June through December is high season for many of the upmarket lodges, which raise their prices during these months. You are unlikely to be affected by public holidays.

    Botswana

Botswana has a pleasant, temperate climate with low humidity, with a maximum mean temperature of 91°F (33°C) in January and a minimum mean temperature of 38°F (4°C) in June. There are effectively two seasons: summer (Sept-Apr), with frequent rains and thunderstorms, and winter (May-Aug), with cold and dry days and nights. Rainfalls make the summer months a great time to visit the delta if you’re interested in birds and plants, but it can get very hot. From April to September, the days are mild to warm, but temperatures drop sharply at night and early in the morning, particularly around June and July. Most consider these 2 months the best time to visit the delta, when the rain that falls on the Angolan bushveld plains seeps down to create what is referred to as the “flood.” At this time, water lilies bloom, countless aquatic creatures frolic in the water, and a huge diversity of game from the surrounding dry areas moves into the delta. You are unlikely to be affected by public holidays.
