    Annual travel insurance

Annual travel insurance (or multi-trip travel insurance) covers you for several trips each year. The alternative, single-trip travel insurance. will only cover you for one specific trip.Read on to find out more about annual travel insurance and how to get the best deal.

What are the advantages of getting annual travel insurance?

Compare to single-trip, multi-trip travel insurance is:

    • cheaper if you go on holiday more than once a year, an annual travel insurance policy will probably be cheaper than buying multiple single-trip policies.
    • more convenient   you don t have to arrange a new policy every time you travel;
    • there when you need it   if you decide to take a last minute holiday, you can rest assured that you ll be fully covered.

What if I’m travelling for a long time?

Multi-trip travel insurance policies will usually have a limit on the number of days  one trip can last, or a maximum number of days they will cover. This is usually 30-31 days, but this can differ by policy. If you’re going away for a long period of time, you should look at backbacker insurance or extended holiday insurance instead.

How much does annual travel insurance cost?

The cost of multi-trip travel insurance can vary greatly depending on:

    • if you want worldwide or European cover;
    • if you want family or individual cover;
    • your age;
    • if you have a pre-existing medical condition;
    • the excess;
    • the level of cover.

    Annual travel insurance checklist

Here s a list of things to check before you buy your travel insurance policy:

    • Do you need worldwide or European cover? (You may be able to extend European cover to worldwide later if you need to.)
    • How many days travel will you be covered for in total, and for each individual trip?
    • What’s the maximum amount of money you can claim if your baggage is lost or stolen? (The level of baggage cover.)
    • What’s the maximum amount of money you can claim for valuables e.g cameras and jewellery? Is this limit high enough to cover your valuables?
    • Does your home insurance cover your belongings when you’re away from home? If so, you might not need cover for your valuables and baggage.
    • What’s the maximum amount of money you can claim if your cash is lost or stolen?
    • Are you glasses covered?
    • Will you get compensation if your holiday is cancelled or cut short?
    • Have you declared any pre-existing medical conditions? (If you don’t declare any illnesses your claim could be rejected.)
    • Is the policy open to people of your age?
    • Are there any exclusions? (Things that aren t covered.)
    • What’s the excess? (The excess is a set amount that you’ll have to pay if you make a claim. A higher excess will mean a cheaper policy.)
    • Does it cover you for any activities you might want to do, like skiing, rafting or diving?
    • Does it include personal liability over? (This will cover you if you injure a person or damage someone’s property.

    Annual Multi Trip Travel Insurance

Find the best travel insurance quote for your trip

What is annual multi trip travel insurance?

As travel has become cheaper and more affordable to the masses, many families are now taking several trips abroad instead of the single annual vacation that used to be the norm. Purchasing a single trip policy can work out more expensive when travelling upwards of two to three times a year so it’s worth considering an annual multi trip policy.

With annual multi trip insurance, you can ensure you are covered for a number of trips within a 12 month period, giving you the peace of mind you need on those all important breaks.

Who is annual travel insurance suitable for?

Whether you are a solo traveller or a couple, annual cover can be the cheapest option when it comes to making sure you are covered to travel more than three times each year.

If you plan to travel with a group or with your family you may find that it is more cost effective to purchase a group travel insurance policy or family cover and this is worth investigating before you proceed to purchase annual multi trip cover.

Likewise, if you plan to take a year out to travel the globe then it may be worth investigating a backpackers policy as this is designed to cover you to travel to a variety of destinations for a longer duration.

What level of cover will I receive?

The level of cover you receive can vary a great deal from insurer to insurer but the average policy should at least include medical cover, cancellation cover and loss of baggage cover. Other covers included in a comprehensive annual multi trip policy could include: cover for valuables and holiday money, scheduled airline failure insurance, personal accident/personal liability cover and legal expenses cover.

As a good rule of thumb, you should aim to have the following amounts in each area of cover:

Medical cover in the region of 2million (double this if travelling to the USA). This should also cover the cost of emergency repatriation.

Personal liability cover amounting to around 1 million.

Cancellation cover of equal value to your holiday (including the cost of prepaid excursions). Cover is usually on a per person basis so to cover a 2,000 holiday you’d need cover of 1,000 each as a minimum.

Baggage and personal possessions cover to cover the cost of replacing your suitcase and contents should it be lost or stolen. You should also consider the cost of single items such as your digital camera or laptop and factor this into the cover level you require (it is commonplace for insurers to apply a cap to the amount you can claim for on any one item so read the terms and conditions of your policy carefully).

Holiday spending money cover of around 500 or equal to the value of the cash you will be taking with you.

What about the EHIC, do I need one of those?

The European Health Insurance Card or EHIC is designed to ensure that you will receive free or reduced cost emergency medical treatment in any of the EU member countries – plus Switzerland – and is available for those aged 16 and over free of charge.

It is a good idea to apply for one if you will be travelling within Europe as you will be asked for this first in the event of you needing healthcare whilst on holiday.

It is important to remember that the EHIC does not fully cover the cost of your medical treatment and will not entitle you to free or reduced price private treatment. It will also not cover the cost of emergency repatriation to the UK, so it is always wise to have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place.

To find out more about the European Health Insurance Card, please click here .

How many days can I travel for?

Annual travel insurance is designed to cover those travelling three or more times a year and it is common for the cover period to be limited to around 31 days of consecutive travel per trip. The number of trips per year will more often than not be unlimited as long as you return within the number of days specified by the insurer.

You may however find that some insurers offer extended periods of travel up to 60 days and over but this could be at an additional cost.

When is annual multi trip cover not suitable?

Annual holiday insurance may not be suitable if you will be staying at your holiday destination for longer durations (see restrictions above).

Multi trip cover may also not be the best option if you are undergoing tests for a medical condition that could mean you’d need to declare pre-existing conditions before you travel later in the year. In this instance a pre-existing medical conditions single trip policy taken out just before travelling would ensure you are correctly covered.

It is also important to note that some insurers may have an upper age restriction on their multi trip policies so you should verify this before purchasing the policy.

If you plan to take part in activities that the insurer deems to be dangerous – such as skiing, water sports or bungee jumping – then you may not be covered under the standard terms and conditions of the policy but you might be able to bolt on this cover element.

    September 10, 2015

If you have several debts, you can consolidate them on one less-costly balance transfer credit card. You will have only one payment rather than several to worry about. Be attentive to the limit of your new plastic – it should be high enough to accommodate your debts fully.

Sometimes credit companies charge a balance transfer fee. It can be a flat rate, for example $30, or a percentage of the amount you will transfer – from 1% to 5%. The first variant can be more beneficial if your balance is large.

Critical Care Nursing | ICU Nurse Job Description

July 5, 2013 by Sarah, BSN, RN

Critical care nursing is a relatively new concept. Advancements in medical technology have made medical care more complex. To provide the best care possible, critical care nurses are provided for the neediest patients. When it comes to medical emergencies, critical care nurses are the people that patients want to see. Critical care nursing is all about providing the highest level of care to ill patients in a timely fashion.

    ICU Nurse Job Description

An ICU nurse has the responsibility to handle patients with life-threatening illnesses. His or her job consists of working in intensive care units and emergency departments at healthcare facilities. These individuals insure the proper care of patients and their families.

Critical care nurses are the advocate for ill patient and the family members. They provide specialized experience, knowledge, and skills that their patients need. They may have to work in environments where patients receive intense interventions and therapies, and complex assessments, and they must offer humane care for their patients.

The responsibilities of a critical care nurse may include:

    • Providing the necessary care for patients
    • Acting as a liaison for patients and the families of patients
    • Respecting the rights and beliefs of patients
    • Monitoring the care that patients receive
    • Offering assistance that is in the best interest of the patient
    • Interceding for patients in situations that require action immediately
    • Representing the patient according to his or her choice
    • Providing support and education that can help patients and their designated surrogate make the best decisions possible.

How to Become an ICU Nurse

To become an ICU nurse, it is necessary to earn a degree in nursing. The options to become a nurse are available through an associate’s degree, a diploma program, or a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Many current ICU nurses choose to advance their education by earning a master’s degree in nursing to become an advanced practice nurse so that they can increase their opportunities.

Most hospitals have a minimum education requirement of a bachelor’s in nursing to be considered for a position. Many hospitals may consider honoring certificates from diploma programs for graduates of their own nursing program.

Becoming an ICU nurse does not require certification, but most graduates choose to earn the credentials to increase their marketability. Registered nurses have a greater opportunity for employment and advancement than non-certified ICU nurses do. Certification is an indicator of the exceptionally high level of expertise in the field of nursing.

For those who wish to become certified, it is necessary to have 2 years of experience working with critically ill patients. They can earn the critical care registered nurse certification by taking the CCRN exam administered by the AACN. Many other nursing associations offer the exam necessary to receive certification as an ICU nurse.

More and more employees are requiring that ICU nurses receive the credentials as advanced practice nurses by taking a nationally approved certification examination due to the managed care and Medicare stipulations for reimbursement of funds.

    ICU Nurse Salary

The average nursing salary for an ICU nurse is $68,111 annually. Areas of the country in which an ICU nurse can make higher wages are Phoenix, San Francisco, Tampa, and Washington D.C. An ICU nurse can make a salary range of $74,089 to $109,113 annually. The high demand for certified nurses can increase the annually salary significantly, depending on the location, education, experience, and facility.

    Critical Care Nursing Jobs

ICU nursing jobs are in great demand around the country so the outlook is exceptional. The need for qualified registered nurses will create over 581,500 jobs by the year 2018.

The nursing shortage is very evident in critical care nursing. The number of travel nurses and temporary nurses has skyrocketed in the past few years. The greatest number of critical care nurses is needed in pediatrics, emergency departments, adult critical care units, and neonatal units.

Many hospitals are now offering qualified ICU nurses very attractive bonuses, continuing education stipends, and relocation bonuses. The use of web based orientation programs are now being used to prepare and attract experience, licensed nurses to become ICU nurses. The Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) is one of those programs.

Critical care nurses are imperative to the daily operations of hospitals around the country. The shortage of certified nurses makes a career as a critical care nurse more enticing. Critical care nurses provide specialized care to patients in need and provide support to the patients and the families. The rewarding career of an ICU nurse is well worth the hard work.

    Annual, multi-trip travel insurance

Compare cheap annual, multi-trip travel insurance quotes through our preferred provider, theidol.com [1]

    Key points

    • An annual policy may prove cheaper than single-trip ones if you make more than one excursion in a year
    • Take care with the policy start date if you want to benefit from cancellation cover
    • Remember that there will be limits on the number of days covered for each individual trip
    • When taking out an annual policy think about the destinations and cover areas you need insurance for throughout the entire length of the policy, not just for your next trip

If you’re taking a holiday or going on business, it’s advisable to take out travel insurance to cover you in the event of anything going wrong whilst you’re away.

And if you take several breaks a year, it’s well worth considering getting quotes for annual travel insurance (also known as multi-trip insurance).

An annual policy is, as the name suggests, taken out on a yearly basis and covers you regardless of how many trips you need to take.

This is different to single-trip travel insurance. which covers you only for the duration of one break.

Single trip v annual travel insurance

Annual travel insurance tends to be more expensive than single-trip insurance, but it can work out to be more cost effective depending on the number of times you’re away from home.

“If you’re lucky enough to have more than one holiday in a 12-month period, it may be that a multi-trip policy offers better value than selecting separate policies for each trip,” said Gocompare.com’s Caroline Lloyd. Remember, though, that there are a number of important things to consider if you opt for a multi-trip policy.

    Take care with cancellation cover

Some people delay taking out an annual policy until the day their holiday is due to start, meaning that the cover will last longer into the following year, but this can be a costly decision.

    Need more information?

By doing this you’ll be missing out on valuable cancellation cover that can insure you against the unexpected in the build-up to your trip.

“Perhaps above anything else, it’s worth noting one key point with annual and single policies – the start date of the cover,” said Lloyd.

“For single policies your cancellation cover starts from the day the policy is purchased but, for annual policies, any cancellation cover won’t start until the policy date start, which you will be asked to specify at the time of purchase.

“To be covered immediately for any cancellation, you need to select the purchase date as the policy start date.”

Also take care if your annual policy runs out midway through a planned trip. In such circumstances it may be worth speaking to your insurer, but it’s unlikely you’ll be fully covered.

Instead, you may want to consider taking out a new annual policy running from the date you book the holiday, or a single-trip policy to cover the particular excursion you’re planning.

How many days are you covered for?

Note that on an an annual policy there’ll almost certainly be a restriction on the number of days each individual trip can last. Insurers commonly offer cover for a maximum of 30-45 days a trip but some include cover for up to 60 days.

If you’re planning an extended trip, then you may want to consider long-stay travel insurance or specific backpacker cover .

How to buy multi-trip travel insurance

If you search for travel policies using Gocompare.com, the first question you’ll be asked is whether you want single trip cover, annual (multi-trip) cover or dedicated backpacker insurance.

Look very carefully at the excess you have to pay, as insurers will often use this as a way to create attractive, cheaper policies

    Caroline Lloyd, Gocompare.com

You’ll be asked when you want the policy to start. remember that if you have a trip booked already and you want to benefit from cancellation cover you should start your policy as soon as possible.

You’ll also be asked what destination(s) you require cover for and should remember to consider all the places you think you may travel to in the duration of the policy. If, for example, you’re going to Europe next but you plan to travel to the USA later in the year, you’ll need to factor this in.

Also try to think ahead when you’re asked whether you need cover for winter sports. business trips and/or cruises. Again these may not be relevant for your next trip, but you may need such cover during the course of the policy.

You may be able to add extra destinations and/or winter, business and cruise cover later on by contacting your insurer, but it’s likely that you’ll have to pay an extra premium and, perhaps, an administration fee.

Choose whether you need cover for an individual, family. couple or group, then declare any pre-existing medical conditions before proceeding to the results table.

“Look very carefully at the excess you have to pay, as insurers will often use this as a way to create attractive, cheaper policies,” said Lloyd.

“Premium or gold policies will typically offer higher levels of cover and lower excesses. They may also include additional cover elements such as missed departure cover, which gives you cover in the event that you are delayed on your way to the airport, through traffic or a breakdown.

“Not leaving early enough or sleeping through the alarm doesn’t count though – I’ve nearly done that myself!”

When you see an option you like you can click through for more detailed information on the policy and, if you’re happy, proceed to purchase.

    Annual Travel Insurance

Annual travel insurance is a multi trip travel insurance that covers you for all of your trips throughout the year provided each trip does not exceed a specified number of days.

Annual travel insurance provides most of the benefits that travel insurance does such as emergency medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation of remains, accidental death and dismember insurance etc. However, most annual policies do not provide any trip cancellation insurance and most provide a limited and/or fixed amount of trip interruption coverage.

If you are a busy traveler who is traveling all the time throughout the year, you don’t have the time or energy to look for travel insurance every time, and you may even forget to purchase it for some of your trips. In that case, annual travel insurance is most suitable.

If you are traveling for business all the time, annual travel insurance is for you. If you are retired but active and healthy and you take a lot of vacations throughout the year, annual travel insurance is for you. Simply anyone else who travels frequently can purchase annual travel insurance.

You should keep in mind the following things when purchasing annual travel insurance policies:

    • Various policies allow a certain number of days of coverage during a given trip. It may be 30 days, 45 days or 70 days or some other duration. If you are going to be traveling for a much longer duration at a time, annual travel insurance policies are not suitable for you and you should instead consider single trip travel insurance policy.
    • Even though some of the policies consider your age for the premium, many just charge a flat amount per year for you and for your family.
    • The reason trip cancellation is not included in most annual travel insurance plans is that you would not know the details of all of your trips and their trip costs in advance. Number of trips you take may vary. Insurance company has no way to keep track of which trip you are going on and which one you can’t. As trip cancellation benefits are based on trip benefit, trip cancellation insurance is not provided in most policies.
    • While there are many other factors, usually, the annual trip insurance may cost you 3 to 4 times more than single trip insurance. Therefore, it is really not necessary that you should be traveling every week or even every month to make purchasing annual travel insurance worthwhile.
    • Most annual travel insurance policies require that you maintain a valid primary health insurance in your home country in order to be eligible to purchase such plan.
    • Due to the fact that most annual travel insurance plans do not cover any trip cancellation and require you to have domestic health insurance, they are very low cost travel insurance plans.
    • Before buy annual travel insurance, you should get the quotes from multiple companies and compare the benefits. Fortunately, web sites like insubuy.com provide you the convenience of getting quotes from multiple companies at the same time and making side by side comparison so that you can the decision for purchasing the plan that is most suitable to you.
    • It is extremely important not to look just at the price, but also at the coverage you are getting.

The Benefits of Purchasing a Multi-Trip Annual Travel Insurance Policy

    Updated: June 27, 2011

While it may not actually be a secret, many people are unfamiliar with the annual, multi-trip travel insurance policy. Unlike single-trip policies that only cover you for one trip, an annual travel insurance policy offer you emergency medical coverage for every trip you take within 12 months of buying your policy.

    Add it up and save

At first glance, getting annual travel insurance may seem like overkill, but just think of how many times you may have travelled in the last year: family vacations, business trips (get tips for business travellers ), spring break getaways, and weekend jaunts across the border for shopping or sporting events. Add it all up and often an annual policy works out to be cheaper than purchasing a single-trip policy per trip in a year and in some cases, it’s even cheaper than buying just one!

    The annual policy advantage

An annual travel plan is valid for 12 months, and you can travel as many times as you like during the year, as long as you don’t exceed the maximum trip duration for the policy which you’ve purchased, generally 15 days in length. There is more choice than this however, including nine, 16, and 18-day multi-trip travel insurance plans as well, so there is room for flexibility.

The biggest advantage of purchasing annual travel insurance is that you don’t need to arrange for emergency medical coverage for each separate trip you take, which means you’re not only saving money, but time as well.

How the savings can apply to you

While every person’s travelling situation is unique, the following realistic scenarios show how an annual policy might be the right choice when it comes time to buy travel insurance in Canada .*

    Single 25-year olds

Do you take frequent trips for some cross-border shopping. Travel to the U.S. for sporting events? If you take more than 2 weekend trips a year, you’ll save money with an annual policy.

Couples between the ages of 25-35

For couples, where coverage applies to both travellers, all it takes for an annual policy to be the cost-effective purchase is:

    • Two weekend trips and a one-week holiday, or
    • One two-week holiday and one jaunt across the border for a weekend.

    Families with children

If you’re a family with young children and you typically take one two-week vacation a year, it may cost less to get an annual travel insurance policy, where coverage applies to all family members, rather than getting a single-trip travel insurance policy.

    Couples aged 60-70

Do you take more than two 14-day vacations a year? You may save on your travel insurance by purchasing annual travel insurance over single-trip insurance.

Annual travel insurance can save you money

So whether you’re already a frequent traveller, or are planning to travel a fair bit over the next year, getting annual travel insurance may save you more than you think.

Using KANETIX, compare multi-trip travel insurance quotes to see if based on your unique travelling schedule you could be saving money with an annual travel insurance policy today.

Looking for more money-saving travel insurance tips? Don’t forget to:

Buy travel insurance and get 2 for 1 cinema tickets

Every Tuesday and Wednesday for a whole year with MEERKAT MOVIES

    Comparing annual travel insurance

So why might you need annual travel insurance? Well, it can be essential if you travel often. People often buy a travel policy to cover them for their holiday abroad once a year, but it can work out cheaper to buy annual cover if you go away twice a year or more. This is sometimes also called multi trip travel insurance.

More generally, it’s essential to have travel insurance as it should protect you if things go wrong.

    What does travel insurance cover?

The main purpose of travel or holiday insurance is to cover you for cost of medical treatment abroad – which could go into thousands of pounds. It could also pay for you to be transported home in an emergency.

Policies do vary from insurer to insurer, but most should include emergency medical treatment costs to cover things such as hospital charges and ambulance fees. They usually also cover getting you home after medical treatment abroad, if you can’t use your original tickets. Often you’ll be covered for the costs of a friend or relative staying with you while you’re treated, or flying out from home to support you if needed.

Your policy can also cover you if you lose your baggage or other possessions (or they’re stolen), and refund you if the trip has to be cancelled or cut short (cover will vary depending on provider).

So is it going to be cheaper for you to buy an annual policy or a single trip travel insurance? It actually depends on a few things, so the best way to find out what would work best for you is to do a travel insurance comparison.

    Where are you going?

When you compare travel insurance you first need to decide if your policy needs to cover you just for the UK, or for Europe, or the USA, Canada and Caribbean. You’ll need extra cover if you’re going to the USA, Canada or Caribbean, or anywhere further beyond. So if there’s a chance you will be going somewhere exotic, it could be worth including that in your annual policy.

Some people think that they don’t need travel insurance if they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). If you need medical treatment while travelling within many European countries, the EHIC means you can get treatment on the same basis (maybe free or at a low cost) as people who live in that country. However, it will be on the basis you get taken to a public not private hospital. In the event of an emergency you will be taken to the nearest hospital.

But the EHIC isn’t a substitute for travel cover – it wouldn’t pay for getting you home or other costs linked to your medical emergency. They are also date-specific, so check the expiry on your card before you travel. Be aware too, that not all European countries recognise the EHIC. Also some policies will waive your excess if you have one.

Outside the EU of course there’s no EHIC, so it can be more expensive again to get medical support.

A final point on where you’re going. Your travel insurance won’t cover you if you are travelling to a country that the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) doesn’t consider to be safe. If you’re not sure, check the FCO website.

    Who are you taking?

Your annual travel insurance could just be for you, or you could buy it as a couple, or cover your family or a group.

If you’re including other people, you will need their dates of birth and details of any medical conditions they might have, to get an accurate quote.

    What will you be doing?

If you’re going skiing or snowboarding, or taking a cruise, or your trip is for business, not all policies will cover you. With winter sports there’s more risk of injury, while cruises need specific elements like cover for being confined to your cabin, or an emergency airlift to hospital. If you’re travelling on business (and your company isn’t insuring the trip) not all general policies will cover you. We’ll ask you about these elements as part of our quote information.

If you’re planning on being adventurous on your travels, you might need to check whether things like bungee jumping, white water rafting or lion taming are covered in your policy – should you need them.

    How’s your health?

From an insurer’s point of view, if you have a health condition it could mean you‘re more likely to need medical help while you’re away. Because of this, some conditions might make your insurance more expensive but this isn’t always the case with all conditions.

It’s important that you do list any medical conditions and give insurers all the information they need because, if not, you might be charged more by your insurer or not be covered. If your insurer discovers that the medical emergency on your trip was linked to a condition you already had, they could refuse to pay your bills or add a cost.

To get you a list of quotes, we’ll ask you a few questions about your health and get you to add in the names of any medical conditions.

    Compare and save!

Next you’ll get a page full of travel insurance quotes. These are listed in price order with the cheapest travel insurance at the top.

You can also see all the main details of each policy – how well it’s rated by Defaqto, the amounts of medical, baggage and cancellation cover and what excess you would pay if you did make a claim. You can filter your results to only show those over a certain limit, if you like.

To find out more about what is and isn’t included in the policies, click each one for more details.

Once you have found a travel insurance quote that suits you, click the button to go through and buy. But do make sure you read all the details. We hope you never need to claim, but you should make sure you have the right cover, just in case.

Don’t forget, if you buy your travel insurance policy through us, you will benefit from the fabulous Meerkat Movies! You can get 2 for 1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, every week for a whole year.* A great reason to choose us for your holiday insurance.

    Annual Travel Insurance

Like a package plan. a worldwide annual travel insurance plan delivers comprehensive protection for all the trips you take ‒ all year long.  Some annual trip insurance plans are renewable.

What makes worldwide annual travel insurance unique?

Many travelers like the convenience and economy of a worldwide annual trip insurance plan, which is similar to a package plan but covers the traveler for a full year.

Same worldwide coverage for 12 full months

The reason many travelers like an annual trip insurance plan is the convenience of having the same coverage for all their travel plans all year long. Most plans have a long per-trip length requirement (usually 70-90 days). One policy to read and understand; only one number to call for travel assistance services.

    Comprehensive and economical

Annual plans are relatively cost-effective because the coverage for cancellation is low or not included (some plans offer optional trip cancellation coverage on a per-trip basis for an extra fee). Age is taken into account, but most annual plans run a couple hundred dollars per year, per traveler.

Key difference is little to no trip cancellation

The amount of trip cancellation and interruption coverage needed is determined by the total pre-paid non refundable travel costs at risk for a particular trip. With an annual plan, however, each trip during the year will have a different trip cost and the traveler won’t likely know all those costs when they purchase their annual plan.

This is why trip cancellation and interruption coverage is very limited in annual plans and may only be available for a flat trip cost amount (such as $1,000) and it may only apply to a single trip during the annual coverage period.

Why would you need Annual trip insurance?

The following explains why certain travelers need an annual travel insurance plan.

    • You are taking multiple worldwide trips in the coming year and you don’t want to have to research and purchase travel protection for each individual trip.
    • You have a medical emergency and seek care in a foreign country.
    • You have a serious accident and need to be evacuated to a medical facility.
    • A hurricane shuts down travel and you don’t want to sleep on the airport floor.
    • Your checked luggage has been badly mangled by the handlers and you need replacement clothing.
    • Your checked bags went one way while you traveled another and you need some essential items until they catch up to you.
    • You want to be sure your dependent children are safely returned home if you are hospitalized and leave them unattended.
    • You want the comfort of knowing that a loved one can visit you if you are hospitalized on your trip.
    • You want term life protection to care for your family in case a flight accident occurs on one of your trips.
    • You want travel assistance experts to help when you have a travel emergency or need concierge services.

What coverage is included in Annual trip insurance?

The following coverage is typically found in an annual trip insurance plan.

    • Coverage for emergency medical and dental care. including hospital visits, surgery, prescription drugs, doctor and dentist office visits, and more.
    • Emergency medical transportation so you can receive medical care for your illness or injury.
    • Reimbursement for unexpected lodging, meals, and transportation costs if your travel is delayed a certain number of hours (usually 6-12).
    • Reimbursement for lost, stolen, or destroyed baggage and personal effects (up to the policy limit) whether they are lost or destroyed by the airline, a taxi driver, a hotel employee, or anyone else.
    • Reimbursement (up to the policy limit) for personal essentials if your baggage is delayed a certain number of hours (usually between 12 and 24 ).
    • The comfort of knowing your dependent children will be flown home (with a chaperone, if necessary) if you are hospitalized an unable to care for them. Arrangements must be made through the insurance provider’s travel assistance services.
    • A bedside visit benefit if you are hospitalized or in critical condition on your trip. Arrangements must be made through the insurance provider’s travel assistance services.
    • Some flight accident insurance as a term life benefit to your beneficiaries if you are killed in a flight accident on one of your trips.
    • The convenience of 24/7 travel assistance services for help with medical emergencies, travel emergencies, business emergencies, pre-trip planning, and more.

    And some annual plans include:

Who should buy Annual travel insurance?

Travelers like these should purchase annual travel insurance:

    • Frequent travelers, such as business owners and academics. When much of your time is consumed by traveling for your work or study, it’s difficult to research travel insurance for each trip and much more economical to have one plan with consistent coverage you understand all year long.
    • Active, healthy, traveling retirees. You may have waited all your life for your retirement and want to put as many trips on the schedule as possible. Of course, you want the safety of travel insurance on each of those trips too.
    • Journalists and writers frequently sent on last-minute assignments. When you have to travel often at the last minute, there’s no time to understand, purchase, and review a single-trip policy. Plus, it’s useful to have the same coverage all year round so you know what to expect without having to sign up for new coverage every time.

How much does Annual trip insurance cost?

Most full-featured annual multi-trip insurance plans will cost a traveler around $200, depending on these factors:

    • The estimated number of trips
    • The estimated number of days for the longest trip of the year
    • The traveler’s age
    • The options chosen with the plan

See 4 Steps to 100% confidence in your travel insurance plan for information about how to be sure you the the right travel insurance plan.

Where should you buy your Annual travel insurance?

You have two options for buying travel insurance – the best option is to compare plans from all companies, get quotes, and purchase your travel insurance plan online:

All travel insurance companies include a free look period with a refund that lets you review the plan documentation. If you decide you need something a little different, you can make changes to your policy or cancel it for a refund (minus a small fee).
