There is some cost associated with this method and it doesn’t completely answer your question, but I thought it could possibly be applicable.

Online Exercise Science Bachelors Degree Program Info

Essential Information

Online learning options in exercise science are very rare, since there tends to be required hands-on research in athletic training, strength, and conditioning. However, individuals can find a select few institutions that offer exercise science majors and concentrations delivered remotely. Courses can be completed online, but an internship is typically required near the end of the program. In some hybrid programs, students may also be required to complete in-class lab work.

In addition to kinesiology, there are several other majors that include exercise science courses, such as physical education, nutrition and sports management. Bachelor’s degree programs in sports management can be completed totally online, with no on-campus course or lab requirements.

In bachelor’s degree programs in kinesiology, students can expect to take courses in biomechanics, physiology, sports psychology, and motor learning. These programs may prepare graduates for certification with the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Individuals can go on to work as fitness trainers, coaches or sports managers.

  • Sport and Fitness Management
  • Sports Medicine

Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science

Most bachelor’s degree programs in kinesiology offer the option to concentrate in exercise science. Students enrolled in kinesiology programs will learn the basics of body movements and functions, and incorporate these ideas with principles of fitness and rehabilitation.

Program Information and Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, with a focus on exercise science, is typically meant to provide students with a science-based approach to understanding fitness. Students will complete hands-on work and research, oftentimes in a laboratory or training facility, in order to gain experience in rehabilitation techniques, performance analysis, and fitness testing. Kinesiology programs generally take a multi-faceted approach in teaching aspects of fitness and exercise science. Bachelor’s degree programs in exercise science usually take 3-4 years to complete.

Common Kinesiology and Exercise Science Courses

Students will complete coursework dealing with aspects of physical therapy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport psychology and fitness testing. Hands-on training and first-aid certification courses are typically required for completion of the program.

Anatomy and Physiology

This course studies the structure and function of the human organ systems. Students are typically required to complete in-class laboratory work.

Exercise Physiology

This course looks at the physiology of exercising. Students will study how the human endocrine, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems respond and adapt to exercise.

Fitness Assessment and Prescription

Students study the methods and techniques used in evaluating physical fitness. This course covers topics in blood pressure, liability concerns, ECG recording and interpretation, strength assessment, body composition analysis, and pulmonary function tests.

Career Information

A popular career option for someone holding a degree in kinesiology and exercise science is to become a fitness worker. As of May 2015, the median annual income for someone working in the field was $36,160, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS reported that, between 2014 and 2024, job opportunities in the field are expected to increase by 8% (www.bls.gov ).

Continuing Education

Students who complete a bachelor’s degree program in kinesiology often go on to pursue a master’s degree in the field. A master’s degree program typically takes 2-3 years to complete. Students will delve into more intensive research and study of kinesiology, including extensive hands-on laboratory research and training. The option to choose exercise science as a focus is typically available at the master’s level, just as it is at the bachelor’s level. A master’s degree may lead to a significant bump in responsibility and pay in the field of fitness-related jobs. Jobs in physical therapy are popular career options for people who have earned a master’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science.

The most relevant online degree option for undergraduate students who are interested in exercise science is a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, which includes courses in the basics of human anatomy and how these principles affect sports performance. While these programs typically include a certain amount of on-site hands-on training, there are other athletics-related bachelor’s degree programs that can be completed entirely online.

What is the Difference Between a Sociology Degree and a Social

#

What is the Difference Between a Sociology Degree and a Social Work Degree?

Sociology and social work are two related fields which both deal with the relationships of human beings to their social environments. However, the two career paths involve very different work environments, practices and educations.

Sociologists study human society and social behavior through research and examination of groups, cultures, institutions and more. They engage in detailed research projects, often using statistical and other methods from the social sciences including interviews, surveys and observations in the field. Their main objects of study are the lives of individuals and groups in the context of larger institutional, economic, political and social events and forces. Religious, political, cultural and other factors play an important role in their research, and sociologists often work closely with leaders and policy-makers on these and other themes as consultants or in other roles. Other than in universities, sociologists also work in research organizations, government agencies and consulting firms.

Professional sociologists typically have a PhD, although individuals with Master s or Bachelor s degrees may also find work in the field. Undergraduate degree work in sociology will include courses on classic sociological literature, current sociological methods, statistical and research methods and particular courses on sociological themes, such as poverty, gender, cultural and ethnic relations, population and families.

Social work. while it deals with similar general issues to sociology, is typically a far more hands-on field. Social workers are either direct-service social workers, who provide immediate help to people with solving everyday personal and social problems, and clinical social workers, who like psychologists help their clients cope with mental and behavioral issues in a clinical setting. Although some professional social workers go on to teach the profession in colleges and universities, most social workers work in clinics, schools, hospitals and government agencies, as well as private practices or organizations. Direct-service social workers work with their clients to determine goals and help with life challenges, to access community and public resources and cope with life challenges such as adopting a child, a medical diagnosis, addiction or disability. Clinical social-workers work on many of the same issues, but focus on developing individual, group or family counseling in order to improve their clients mental and emotional health and develop individual or family coping strategies for such challenges.

Entry-level social work positions generally require only a Bachelor s in Social Work (BSW), although higher-level positions and work in schools and hospitals often require a Master s in Social Work (MSW), and all clinical social workers must have the MSW. Undergraduate degree work in the field will involve courses on the different groups and populations in the community, human behavior and psychology, government policy on social services and welfare, and other work in sociology, economics and related fields.

Sociology and social work are very different careers with different educational pathways. While both draw on a similar body of knowledge, sociology generally focuses on research and study while social workers are more directly involved with applying knowledge about society to assisting individuals and families. Consequently, a sociology degree will typically involve more theoretical and methodological coursework, while social work degrees will often have a large practical component focusing on current policy and specific therapeutic and service techniques.

Early Childhood Education Degree – Find Colleges that Offer Early Childhood

#

Early Childhood Education Degree

What is Early Childhood Education?

Early childhood education is a field that focuses on educating children between the ages of 0-5, and is responsible for guiding the development of children and preparing them for formal education. Educators will need to design classroom presentations, maintain discipline in an education environment, resolve behavioral and education issues and monitor children and detect signs of illness. Individuals can pursue various levels of education when pursuing this degree and available jobs will be reflected in the degree acquired. The goal of an early childhood educator is to ensure the safety of the children he or she oversees and provide an environment that engages and educates children, providing an atmosphere of play and growth that allows children to ease into elementary education with ease.

Educational Requirements

Programs in early childhood education are typically available through community colleges and career schools as certificate or associate programs. Certificate programs tend to be shorter in length as they lack the general education requirements of a degree program. Associate programs take two years to complete, and are the lowest level degree one may obtain in this field. Higher level degrees are available, though some students may choose to enter an elementary or general education program as they allow more broad teaching opportunities. Higher levels of education present more employment opportunities, some of which lay outside the teaching aspect of the career, and instead focuses on methodology, marketing, development or other related fields that can use the information garnered from the specialization.

A curriculum in early childhood education may include:

  • Computer Literacy
  • Fundamentals of Early Childhood Education
  • Essentials of Psychology
  • Language and Literacy Development in Young Children
  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition

Employment Opportunities

Early childhood educators can find work in public and private schools, daycare centers, preschools and any other institutions that work with young children in an educational capacity. Early childhood education allows individuals to educate and care for children, as such they will be under scrutiny to ensure the safety of children. Additionally, due to increased importance placed on education at this level, teachers will be evaluated based on their skill and success frequently, often on a yearly basis.

Educators with advanced degrees can also find work teaching or designing curriculums for others. The development of programs and materials for children may be done through the facility or by organizations and companies that produce and develop such material. This may include toys, books, curriculums, and other such aides. Higher level degrees also allow for greater ease in finding positions as such degrees are more desirable, particularly at higher end facilities. Each state has its own standards for early childhood educators and it is best to research your state’s specific requirements if you decide to enter into this field. An early childhood educator must work well with children, be able to handle stress and identify individual needs of their students.

Turnover and Job Growth

Working with children is difficult and early childhood education has a high turnover rate due to the demands of the workplace, career stability, and relatively low income versus other professions. Due to this, there is work available for those seeking a career, especially if they demonstrate an ability to work well with children. Additionally, demand is expected to increase for such workers as a greater emphasis is placed on the education of children at an early age and as such, new jobs should be available alongside those already in place, with newer jobs also being subject to the high turnover rate noted above.

Salary and Related Fields

The average salary for an early childhood educator is approximately $33,000 per year, and entry level positions average at $20,000 per year. Salary is affected by the place of work, the size of the facility, its location, and the number of students served. Work experience and education may play a factor in increased salary, but the contribution from both is minimal, though this may change in the future as greater emphasis is placed on early childhood education.

If a student is interested in other degrees similar to early childhood education, he or she may want to consider an elementary education degree , general education degree or an occupational therapy degree .

Online Physical Education Bachelors Degree Program Info

Essential Information

Through a bachelor’s degree program in physical education, students explore methods for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They also learn how to create personalized wellness plans, focusing on proper nutrition and exercise. Due to the hands-on experience required, there are no online bachelor’s degree programs in physical education. These programs primarily train aspiring teachers, but graduates can also become fitness instructors or coaches. Courses cover fitness and health as well as teaching methods.

These programs require four years of full-time study to complete. Students are required to take general education courses, and they must complete a teacher education program that includes courses in educational assessment, special education, the psychology of learning, and child development. Students get experience in classroom management and in teaching through practice in real classrooms and a student teaching internship. Some may also require on-campus competency exams. Physical education courses may include exercise physiology, kinesiology, team sports, motivation, health education and first aid.

Graduates of these programs who wish to teach in a public school will need a license. In most states, licensing requirements include earning a bachelor’s degree, completing an approved teacher education program and passing competency examinations.

After earning a bachelor’s degree, graduates might consider pursuing an online master’s degree program in physical education, such as a Master of Education. These programs can be found in fully online formats that don’t require campus visits.

Bachelor of Science in Physical Education Program Information

Online degree programs in physical education are usually not available at the bachelor’s level, though individual courses may be available in a distance learning format. However, through the on-campus program, students learn healthy lifestyle techniques for themselves and for others. They learn skills for exercising without causing pain or injury. This degree program requires that students have at least a high school diploma or the GED equivalent.

Degree Information and Requirements

Usually, the bachelor’s degree program in physical education takes four or five years to complete. Both online and on-campus students often participate in physical and health-related activities, including regular workouts or intramural sports. Because these programs typically prepare students for instructional leadership roles, completion of multiple teaching experiences is often required.

List of Common Bachelor’s-Level Physical Education Courses

In addition to physical education courses, students must also take basic general education courses.

Human Body Systems

Through this course, students become familiar with the major systems of the body, including the skeletal, vascular and muscular systems.

Human Movement and Kinesiology

Students taking this course learn about the natural movements of the human body and ways to strengthen regular muscle motion through exercise. They also learn how unnatural movements lead to injury.

Health and Fitness

This course teaches students the basics of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They learn about factors that can affect wellness, such as genetics, nutritional intake and regular exercise.

Coaching

Students learn specific coaching methods and techniques for sports or fitness instruction. They also learn to assess others’ health and create balanced fitness plans based on weight, age and dietary regimen.

Career Information for Graduates

In addition to becoming physical education teachers, graduates of a bachelor’s program may also find careers as coaches, athletic trainers or personal trainers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov ), all of these careers require at least a bachelor’s degree, though some may require additional certification for career advancement. The BLS states that the mean annual salary in 2015 for athletic trainers was $46,940, while coaches and fitness trainers and instructors earned $40,050 and $40,970, respectively. As of October 2016, physical education teachers earn a median annual salary of $41,994 according to PayScale.com.

Continuing Education Information

Individuals who would like to continue their education can pursue a master’s degree in physical education entirely online. Other related degree programs in health and fitness are also available, which can lead to advanced career opportunities in a wider variety of fields, such as physical therapy or sports medicine. Certification and licensure may also be available in some fields.

There are currently no fully online programs available for a bachelor’s in physical education due to the hands-on nature of the program; however, the master’s program for physical education can be found fully online. At the bachelor’s level, some on-campus programs may offer a few courses online but otherwise require in-person work.

Online Real Estate Degrees

You don t need a degree to work in real estate, but getting an education online while working in the field is a way to advance your career more quickly. Working in real estate while you learn is a great way to apply theories and concepts from the classroom to the real world.

Online learning opportunities in this field are less numerous than in other areas of business. Still, it is possible to find high-quality options, whether you are looking for an online certificate program, a bachelor s degree or a master s. The material is easily accessible online and most institutions will work with you to help you get practical experience locally.

In most cases, you need some background in business, whether in the form of a business degree or experience working in the field, or both. In the case of an online certificate in real estate, the assumption is that you are building on a general business foundation and adding a deeper knowledge of real estate. Online bachelor s degrees in real estate offer a real estate concentration within a regular business degree. Master s programs are more focused and require you to choose an area or function of real estate in which to specialize.

Advice from the Experts

We recently interviewed Grant Thrall, President of the American Real Estate Society, and Thomas Bisacquino, President and CEO of NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association). In the interviews, they discuss how their organizations help shape the future of the real estate industry, and share some advice for students preparing for a career in the field.

School Profiles

West Los Angeles College. This institution offers you a certificate or an Associate of Arts degree in real estate, both online. If you are just getting started, the associate degree will give you the background you need and prepare you to potentially sit for your broker s license. (Be sure to check specific licensing requirements in your state.) You will study the basic principles of real estate, as well as legal and financial issues. Electives include options in property management, real estate tax law and real estate as an investment. The 30-hour program can be completed in less than a year of concentrated study, or can be stretched out to fit your schedule.

DePaul University. DePaul s online Master of Science in real estate is designed for working professionals. You have the option of working full time and earning your master s in a year, but the program is flexible enough that you can work at your own pace. The degree brings marketing, law, public policy, geography and economics experts together online for a unique learning experience. The mentoring program is designed to give even distance learners the benefit of building a network.

Introduction to Real Estate Careers

When someone is looking to rent an apartment, buy a house, sell a property or secure a business location, the first step is often to turn to a trusted real estate agent. That real estate agent, is first and foremost a salesperson, with a wealth of knowledge about the property he or she is selling and the general climate of the real estate market. This industry is largely service-oriented, meaning that a good real estate agent will accommodate client needs, not only trying to find the best property match for a client, but also being open to meet clients when they are available.

Useful Resources

Real Estate Job Description

Real estate agents provide services for people looking to buy, rent, sell, lease, or manage commercial, residential or industrial property. The job is split between finding property listings and locating buyers for these listings. At times an agent will work with a buyer, other times with a seller, and occasionally, with both at the same time.

Agents must write up the listings for the properties they handle, create buyer sheets filled with property information, and scour existing listings to assist buyers in locating a property to meet their needs. Once a property sells, a real estate agent must assist in drawing up contracts, filling out forms, and helping to locate financing. In most cases, the agent also advises buyers or sellers on pricing issues and negotiates the best possible deal.

Since real estate agents are typically independent salespeople, they must be self-motivated and able to work well without supervision. They often possess an entrepreneurial spirit, enjoying the freedom that comes from making their own decisions. Though real estate agents do have a lot of independence, they also are subject to their clients schedules, often working long hours, as well as weekends and evenings.

Real Estate Requirements

An advanced degree isn t always required, but real estate agents must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, and must be licensed by the state in which they work. Some states require up to 90 hours of real estate classes, and all states require agents to pass a written test dealing with real estate law and transaction regulations. In addition, continuing education units (CEUs) and licensing renewals are required.

Some real estate agencies prefer an agent to possess an associate or bachelor s degree, especially when dealing with complex transactions or large, corporate clients. Classes in business administration, business law and finance are helpful, as are sales and marketing experience, strong communication skills, and even clerical abilities.

Deep into the digital age, real estate agents must also be tech savvy, knowing how to market properties on the Internet.

Real Estate Career Outlook

New real estate agents should be aware of two things: competition from established agents and the impact of the Web. While many buyers and sellers now turn to sites such as Craigslist, there are still opportunities in real estate. In fact, the number of real estate jobs is expected to grow faster than average through 2018.

The average annual earnings, including commissions, for real estate sales agents in 2008 were approximately $40,000; ranging from approximately $27,400 to about $64,800. Real estate brokers (those who are licensed to own their real estate businesses) tend to earn more with an average of $57,500.

Real Estate Trends

With the widespread use of the Internet to buy and sell properties, a career in real estate is not what it used to be. To be successful, agents must be savvy marketers and passionate salespeople with a strong desire to succeed.
