    And for good reason — it allows you much more freedom and a greater opportunity to connect with locals.

    According to the 2015 Visa Global Travel Intentions study. which surveyed over 13,000 travelers from 25 different countries, 24% of travelers traveled alone on their most recent leisure trip. That’s almost 10% more than in 2013.

    But for some, venturing out into the world completely solo can be intimidating.

    The good news is there are a number of travel companies that cater to solo travelers and can help you book a guided trip with other travelers who are on their own.

    Take a look at our list below and start planning your next trip.

    General trips

    Solos. Britain’s number one “singles holiday company,” has been around since 1982, and they’ve been catering specifically to solo travelers from the start. The company offers all kinds of vacations — from walks and treks to cities, ski or beach vacations. They also just recently launched an American branch, Solos Vacations. which only offers trips to the UK and Italy as of right now.

    Classic Journeys

    Classic Journeys provides a solution to an issue that solo travelers have long had to deal with: supplements. Most travel companies raise prices up to 50% for those traveling alone. Classic Journeys, on the other hand, keeps its mark up to around 15%, because they only charge customers the extra fee that hotels charge for single travelers.

    This isn’t a “singles vacation” company; Classic Journeys specializes in walking tours with knowledgeable local guides. They’re happy to book you a double room just for yourself, and they’ve received top ratings from both National Geographic and Travel + Leisure. About a third of their guests book solo trips.

    Contiki Vacations

    Contiki is geared towards younger travelers, specifically those aged 18-35. The company uses forums and social media to connect vacationers with each other before they embark on their journey. Since most of their pricing is for doubles, Contiki’s goal is to match travelers up with someone of the same sex and then book a double room for them. So if you’re looking to make friends on your trip, this is the company for you.

    Abercrombie and Kent

    Best known as a luxury travel company, Abercrombie and Kent  accepts solo travelers on all of its trips — to all seven continents. They also offer Solo Savings escorted group tours, where single travelers enjoy their own private accommodations during every stop of the trip, but don’t have to pay the usual single supplements. A K either completely waives the supplement, or reduces it by up to 75%.

    Adventure trips

    Exodus  is unique in that it designates one or two departure dates per tour as Solo Departures, which the company suggests solo travelers use. Therefore, most of the people who leave on those dates and end up on those trips are people vacationing alone.

    Exodus’ tour guides are local and have gone through leader training. Guests can choose trips like cycling Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast or exploring Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands in South America.

    Overseas Adventure Travel

    Ideal for budget travelers, Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) takes single travelers to exotic destinations such as Botswana and Patagonia. They have both land adventures, which are tours on land with groups of 10-16 other travelers, or small ship adventures, which are boat tours with anywhere from 16 to 25 other travelers.

    OAT does not charge supplements, even if you extend your trip 4-9 nights, and they offer the “Solo Traveler Challenge:” a guarantee that if you find another travel company offering a better price on a comparable trip, OAT will meet that price, plus lower it by $500.

    If you’re looking for an authentic experience, G Adventures is your answer. You can sleep in tents in a desert camp in Morocco or sleep under the stars in Antarctica. Active travelers will also like G Adventures; they have multiple trekking and hiking tours, such as a 10-day journey up Mont Blanc in Switzerland.

    There are no single supplements, but G Adventures does book shared hotel rooms, so your accommodations won’t be private. However, if you choose to extend your trip by using the company’s independent extensions option, you will be charged a singles supplement.

    Safaris

    Singita  has luxury safari lodges in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania. One is located in the well known Kruger National Park, and the others are in lesser known parks. They’ve completely abandoned the single supplement, and they offer reduced pricing if you’re looking to travel in the off season.

    Wilderness Safaris

    Billed as Africa’s “foremost ecotourism operator,” Wilderness Safaris  takes guests to some of the continent’s most remote locations while also helping to maintain its biodiversity. The company’s 50 luxury camps are located in eight African countries: Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

    If you travel through southern Africa during November to April 15th, Wilderness Safaris will waive not only your flight but also your accommodation charges. It’s a great deal, considering you still have a good chance of seeing just as much wildlife — but for a fraction of the price.

    Cruises

    Norwegian Cruise Line

    On three of its ships — the Epic, Breakaway, and Pride of America — Norwegian Cruise Line has cabins made exclusively for solo travelers that cost about 30% less than a double stateroom. They offers cruises all over including Alaska, Florida and the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada and New England, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and Panama just to name a few.

     Lindblad Expeditions

    Like Norwegian, Lindblad Expeditions is another cruise company that offers solo cabins for a third less than the price of regular rooms. These single rooms can be found on their National Geographic Explorer, Endeavour, and Orion ships. Their destinations include the Amazon, Peru, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Caribbean.

    Grand Circle Cruise Line

    Grand Circle Cruise Line is one of the few cruise companies that does not offer a single supplement on their small ship cruises. Its small ship cruises go to the British Isles, Greece, France, Turkey, Bosnia, Spain, Burma, Iberia, and many others.

    Cost isn’t the only factor when considering which of the major cheap car rental companies to go with. A car rental company with many locations may be important to you, or you may prefer a company that guarantees a selection of minivans so you can cart the family to Disney World.

    Adding car insurance to your cheap rental car can add an extra $40 a day, according to industry experts. A lot of consumer reviews we looked at include complaints about not being told of certain fees, such as insurance. Customers renting from Advantage. for example, consistently report being subjected to heavy sales tactics when the insurance issue comes up. One consumer notes on Edmunds.com that car rental companies typically offer a collision damage waiver (CDW) and a loss damage waiver (LDW), but many people already have this covered in their own auto insurance policy, so you’re wasting money on double coverage if you buy it from the rental company. Call your insurance carrier to check before you elect the optional insurance, and always read the fine print before signing your rental agreement.

    Roadside Services.

    What if you need help with your car rental and you’re far from the pick-up location? Many cheap rental car companies, including all those we researched for this guide, offer some kind of roadside assistance. Budget. for instance, has a 24-hour hotline you can call if you get stranded — the company will send police or a tow truck to help — but it charges for things that other rental car companies we recommend don’t, like when you lock the keys in your car or run out of gas.

    What about getting to and from the rental site? Hertz and Avis are not cheap car rental companies but they have hundreds of locations, so it’s probably not too difficult to manage the pick-up and drop-off. Advantage sets up shop mostly at airports which may pose a challenge if you’re not planning to start and end your trip near a an airport. Enterprise conveniently resolves the dilemma by providing customers with free pick-up from, and drop-off at, your car-less location of choice.

    Take note of the rental car company’s hours of operation. Hours vary by company and location; there are no company-wide rules. Many locations close early on the weekends or aren’t open on Sundays, and holiday hours may differ, as well. If you need a car to travel for Thanksgiving, you’ll probably get stuck having to rent the car the day before and keep it until Friday.

    If you re trying to conceive and have a baby, you ve probably heard a lot about nutrition and fertility. Dietary supplements can serve as a secondary source of necessary nutrients for anyone, but the best way to make sure your body gets what it needs is through the foods you eat. If you re going to take supplements and you want to get pregnant, some nutrients are essential and others may or may not be helpful. Virtually no individual nutrient has been definitively linked to the benefit of boosting fertility levels, but there are a few that have researchers curious.

    Antioxidants

    According to the American Dietetic Association, antioxidants can help prevent and repair cell damage, so they may have an impact on the quality of your egg or sperm cells. Vitamins C and E and selenium, a trace mineral, are examples of antioxidants which you can readily find in many foods. Supplementing with some nutrients, though, should be done with care. Fat-soluble vitamins, like vitamins A, D, E, and K, can build up in your system and cause serious medical conditions in you or your unborn baby, so you want to check with your health care practitioner or a registered dietitian about the safest amounts to take.

    CoQ10

    Coenzyme Q10, sometimes also called ubiquinone or CoQ10, is a fat-soluble antioxidant made by the human body. It helps your cells mitochondria make energy, and its levels are known to decrease as a person ages. Researchers from Italy concluded that oral CoQ10 supplements increased the amount of the substance in semen and improved sperm cell movement.

    Zinc

    Women and men may benefit from adding more of the mineral zinc to their diet. In a mouse study published in 2010, zinc was found to be key to the egg cell s final development. And the American Dietetic Association says that zinc deficiency — along with not enough vitamin C — in men can cause sperm cells to move too poorly to result in conception.

    L-Carnitine

    The amino acid called L-Carnitine, or simply carnitine, is produce by your body with the purpose of helping turn fat into usable energy. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that sperm cells are one of the locations where your body stores carnitine and that low levels of the amino acid may negatively impact sperm count and mobility.

    Necessary, But Not For Fertility

    Folic acid, also called folate, is a B vitamin that can be deficient in even a typical American diet. Low levels of folate have been linked to birth defects like spina bifida, so you ll find the nutrient in any prenatal vitamin. Studies also lead experts to recommend that women begin taking 400 mcg of folic acid daily before they conceive and then throughout pregnancy for the optimally protective benefit.

    Compound Supplements for Women

    If you re a woman who s trying to conceive, you want to consider the health of your hoped-for embryo and fetus, as well as yourself. The safest and most reliable multi-vitamin and mineral supplement you can take is a prenatal vitamin. They contain nutrient levels that consistently test as both optimal and not harmful. Several products are on the market that combine nutritional supplements with herbs to promote fertility. The goal of these fertility-focused supplements is helping you achieve and maintain a hormonal balance that backs up the reproductive process.

    Compound Supplements for Men

    As with the women s version, the special fertility compounds for men also provide a simplified way of taking vitamins and herbs in one supplement. Rather than focusing on hormone balance, the male formulas aim at sperm health, combining vitamins, minerals, other nutrients and herbs that are believed to enhance the shape, movement, and even count of your sperm cells.

    Caution

    Research is ongoing to determine more connections between dietary supplements and fertility, but one thing that is known is you can take too much of a good thing. Also, men and women who are going through fertility treatment should notify their health care specialists about any supplements in their diet. Even the makers of fertility compounds avoid recommending their products to female patients who are using certain types of medications.

    Customer experience marketing is about putting the customer at the forefront of your marketing strategy. Instead of trying to sell customers on features and benefits, shift your mindset and think about them. Why do they want to engage with you? Why are they reading or viewing your marketing material?

    • Hard to get buy-in from all departments. To make this a success, you need to embody it throughout the company.
    • It takes a different approach to marketing. This approach makes you rethink marketing – sometimes it’s hard to start thinking about what the customer wants, not what you want to sell. Take a consultative approach to solving customer problems, rather than selling features and benefits.
    • Hard to measure ROI. Marketing is generally driven by metrics and revenue. Customer experience has many more holistic benefits; it is not singularly tied to revenue.

    3 keys to successfully implementing customer experience marketing

    Get buy-in from all departments

    This new way of thinking is hard for the old guys to comprehend. We have all been doing marketing the same way for so many years, change can be hard to justify. Explain to other departments that marketing has changed. No longer are we living in a world where the customer doesn’t have a voice. No longer are we limited with the data we know about customers.

    It’s time we use the data we have to create better customer experiences on an individual level. We must rethink every element of our media mix and have one purpose – to serve and satisfy customers.

    Use customer case studies and other references to get support from departments. Offer to do a pilot program for six months to demonstrate the value.

    Add customer experience to your marketing plan

    You must be able to provide quality customer experiences throughout the customer’s lifecycle – not just at acquisition and renewal. Customers remember all the experiences they have with your company.

    By integrating the customer experience into your marketing strategy, you can ensure that your customer is at the forefront of all new initiatives.

    Create key initiatives that create amazing customer experiences

    Now let’s look at some initiatives you can use to create amazing experiences for your customers.

    1. Segmenting customers

    You might have some customers on monthly contracts, others just on ad hoc plans. These customers are different. They have different needs and wants, so from a marketing perspective to keep them happy and to grow new business, you should engage with them differently. Think about why they are doing business with you and send them special offers, educational content and personal follow-ups that are based on that why.

    2. On-boarding new customers

    Do you have a standard on-boarding process for all new customers? Think about how you can tailor the on-boarding to each specific customer. You will no doubt have different types of customers (like the above example, monthly vs ad hoc). Different expectations need to be set for each customer type. Use the on-boarding to create those personalized experiences.

    3. Up-sell opportunities

    This is where the money is made and where you can see the benefits from customer experience marketing. After segmenting your customers, you can tailor up-sell promotions and marketing around their specific needs and wants. Studies by Jupiter Research have shown that relevant emails produce 18 times more revenue than standard email blasts. Use the data you have on customers to tailor marketing messages and up-sell your products.

    The customer experience is now a part of your marketing strategy

    The customer experience should no longer be left to the customer service team. Marketing needs to take a proactive approach to create campaigns that focus on the customer and deliver an amazing experience. Your customers want a personalized and consistent experience across all marketing channels.

    Our entire fleet of air ambulance aircraft (Citation jets and Cessna pressurized twin-engine propeller aircraft) is fully licensed, inspected, insured and equipped with the most up-to-date medical equipment. All aircraft provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). The fleet has the range and flexibility to provide everything from emergency international medical evacuation to a trip home for a critical care patient to see family.

    Air Trek Air Ambulance can also coordinate the ground transportation before and after the air ambulance portion of the transport, providing bedside to bedside service.

    As you know from working with us in advance and greeting us the night of flight arrival, one of your flight crews transported an elderly family member from PA to Punta Gorda to avoid the grueling relocation in a handicapped wheelchair accessible minivan. The concept of using your service was recommended to us by close friends although we did not think this service was feasible for our needs.

    When you made me aware of the possible flight availability for Friday, August 19, 2011, I initially dismissed it as not possible due to logistics, etc. After thinking about the convenience and less stressed way to move an elderly person that is not mobile, we decided it was a great idea. Although I still did not think it was feasible, your team (ground and aircrew) exceeded any and all of our expectations. Not only did your flight crew arrive on time in Punta Gorda, but your ground staff made all arrangements for non-emergency van transport at source (from PA to WV airport) and from Punta Gorda airport to local care facility. We know that is what you do all the time but your staff did it seamlessly and even worked in a few efficiency increasing modifications as the day of flight unfolded. We want to thank Stephanie Griffith (pre-flight arrangements coordinator) and Joy (gave frequent updates the day of the flight) for their patient assistance. Although we assume they have other responsibilities in their work, it seemed as if they were working for us and us alone.

    From our experience with Air Trek, we can highly recommend their service to anyone needing transportation for sick or elderly folks who cannot readily travel easily by care or commercial airlines. Because we know that selection of an air transport firm is not taken lightly, please feel free to use this letter in your list of recommendations for prospective clients wanting a higher comfort level before making a final decision in this area.

    C.L.U.E. stands for comprehensive loss underwriting exchange and is a database that allows automobile and homeowners insurance providers to exchange information – without notice to you – about claims for loss of property.

    Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (known as FACT or FACTA), you are entitled to receive one free C.L.U.E. Auto and C.L.U.E. Personal Property report every 12 months.

    Start now by finding car insurance companies in your area

    Hotels, booking and review sites, and a lone airline made the list of top travel-sector employers in the 2014 Glassdoor  Travel Industry Report Card. The career site compiled its list based on verified employee reviews submitted over the past 12 months, along with employee ratings of their companies’ CEOs and their opinions on whether business will improve, decline, or hold steady for the next six months.

    Top travel-workplace cultures

    Orbitz Worldwide (NYSE:OWW ) tops this year’s list. The travel-planning and booking site earned high ratings from its employees for CEO performance and a supportive, perk-heavy work environment — including, unsurprisingly, “a very liberal vacation policy.”

    Next on the list is Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV ). the only airline to place among the top 10. Along with Orbitz, Southwest also recently earned a spot on Glassdoor’s 2014 Best Places to Work, a list that includes companies from all sectors. One employee praised the “freedom to grow and develop as an individual.” And Southwest has a reputation for encouraging its employees to be creative.

    The hottest hotel brands for workers

    Four hotel brands made this year’s top 10. Privately held Omni Hotels rated fourth   and had the most positive business outlook ratings of the group — 88% of employees said they expect business to get better in the coming half-year.

    Best Travel Companies to Work For – US News #best #prices

    Southwest Airlines and Virgin America top list of travel-related companies as rated by employees.

    If you’d like travel to be part of your work, consider trying to snag a job at domestic airlines Southwest Airlines or Virgin America.

    Those companies rank at the top of a new list of best travel-related employers compiled by career website Glassdoor. The ranking is based on evaluations by employees who work at those companies.

    For people who are considering working in the travel industry, this is a really valuable perspective, to hear what other people who work in the industry are saying, says Glassdoor CEO and co-founder Robert Hohman, who used to work for travel-deal website Expedia. To many outsiders, the travel industry looks extremely glamorous. And to a certain extent, it is. but once you go past the beaches, pools, and cocktails with the little umbrella, there’s a lot of hard work.

    The list includes various types of travel-related companies: airlines, hotels, car and truck rentals, online travel agencies, review websites, and cruise lines. Along with Southwest and Virgin America, Four Seasons Hotels, online travel company Orbitz Worldwide, and Kimpton Hotels Restaurants made the top five.

    The 40 companies included in the ranking each received at least 10 reviews on Glassdoor between May 2009 and May 2011, and nearly three-quarters received more than 30 reviews. Glassdoor compiles reviews by requiring users to offer insight on their company or salary before reading reviews by others.

    Both Southwest and Virgin America offer a perk that many job seekers covet: free and discounted flights. Virgin America allows employees plus a designated flying buddy—usually a spouse or friend—to fly for free whenever a plane has empty seats, and offer discounted flights to friends and family. Southwest Air also offers free, standby travel to employees, as well as a spouse, dependants, and parents, plus a limited number of passes for friends.

    You get discounts on everything: hotels, car rental, any travel-related items, says James Goodman, who has worked for Southwest for 14 years. You add it all up, it’s got to be thousands of dollars each year. A customer service training supervisor who lives in Chicago, Goodman flies for free with his wife and five-year-old son to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. twice a year. I probably wouldn’t be traveling there as much if I had to buy tickets on my own, he says.

    Southwest, which also ranked second on Glassdoor’s list of best 50 companies to work for this year, is hiring, but not in large numbers. The 35,000-employee company, headquartered in Dallas, has openings in revenue management and customer service. The company’s also looking for fall marketing interns.

    Virgin America, a domestic airline that began flying in August 2007, is also hiring. The company is looking for pilots, flight attendants, and mechanics, as well as support staff to work in finance and human resources at headquarters. Just about in every department, we have openings, says Christine Morehead, Virgin America’s director of people (or human relations).

    People like to work for the company because they’re passionate about the airline’s goal of reinventing flying, Morehead says. They really feel like they’re part of making history in the airline industry, bringing great service back. Headquartered in California (and not affiliated with Virgin Atlantic), Virgin America has about 2,000 employees.

    Working in the travel industry may have its perks, but it also has its downsides. Southwest employees complain on Glassdoor of politics within the company and low pay. Some perks, such as flexible schedules, they say, apply only to employees in certain departments. Virgin America employees complain about being away from home a lot, an overwhelming workload, and long hours.

    Q: Can you recommend any companies that are good for solo travelers? —Carolyn Hall, Chicago, Ill.

    A: A couple of months ago, after my daughter had passed through the dependent stage of infancy, I started to get the itch to take a big trip. The problem, my husband and I realized, was that one of us was going to have to stay home to take care of our kids. (With two of them under the age of four, it’s not a job that’s easily outsourced.) I would be traveling solo.

    The good news: where there used to be a stigma associated with hitting the road on your own, there are now an increasing number of companies that recognize the value of single travelers. Tour operators and cruise lines have become more accommodating in recent years, creating special programs for unaccompanied travelers and waiving the often-steep single supplement (an additional charge for unfilled space) that they usually tack on to such trips.

    In my case, I chose a safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. And although I left somewhat reluctantly, I can honestly report (with apologies to my husband) that I had an even more remarkable time for being on my own. I often had safari vehicles and bush planes all to myself, and I had the undivided attention of my guides. Over meals and during shared game drives, I developed an easy camaraderie with people from around the globe. At night, lions, hippos, and elephants congregated outside my tent. I was alone, but never lonely.

    The best of solo travel does just this: offers you all the solitude you crave, while also facilitating meaningful encounters with other people.

    Cruises

    Not long ago, it was common to see a 100 percent surcharge on solo cruises. And though that’s still the case on some ships, the landscape is changing. Norwegian Cruise Line has a class of Studio cabins tailor-made for single travelers and priced at roughly 30 percent less than a double stateroom on its Epic, Breakaway, and Pride of America ships. Lindblad Expeditions offers single-occupancy cabins on its National Geographic Explorer and Endeavour (and soon Orion ) ships for about a third off a regular room. Other lines, meanwhile, have simply been reducing the supplement: Silversea and Azamara Club Cruises often drop it to 25 percent, and Crystal Cruises goes as low as 10 percent. Grand Circle Cruise Line has no single supplement for its small-ship cruises.

    River cruises, in particular, have been rolling out the welcome mat for singles. Companies such as AmaWaterways . Uniworld . and Avalon Waterways regularly waive the supplement altogether. AmaWaterways and Viking River Cruises also have a small inventory of single staterooms on some ships; book early to get them.

    To keep track of specials geared toward solo travelers, it’s best to work with a travel agent. T+L A-List advisor and cruise specialist Mary Ann Ramsey. with Betty Maclean Travel in Naples, Florida, points out that not all ships have the right atmosphere and amenities for solo travelers; a good agent can steer you toward the best one.

    Tours and Safaris

    As with cruise lines, tour operators are offering more value for solo travelers—and are becoming adept at keeping group tours inclusive. Overseas Adventure Travel has no single supplement on any of its 44 land trips. (See T+L’s 2013 Global Vision Awards for more on the company.) Tauck is reducing the surcharge on more than 30 of its 2014 land tours; Abercrombie Kent either waives or lowers it for dozens of trips. (Both operators also frequently ditch the supplement on river cruises.)

    Room rates at most African lodges are based on double occupancy, making solo safaris quite expensive. But some companies, notably Singita . which has luxury camps and lodges in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, are breaking with tradition and abandoning the single supplement. There are also opportunities for savings during the off-season. Micato Safaris , for example, slashes its supplements for East Africa departures in April and May. Wilderness Safaris waives the charge for flights and accommodations on trips throughout southern Africa from November through April 15. (I visited in early April, and the game viewing was spectacular.)

    Again, the key is to book through an agent or safari operator who will know where the deals are and can place you with other solo travelers. Leora Rothschild of Rothschild Safaris also notes that picking the right camp is crucial. You’ll want one with family-style dining and not an overabundance of honeymooners.

    Having an insurance calculator that actually calculated your average insurance rate using general questions as points of reference would be nice.

    Well it is not you alls fault. The statement about males being more aggressive behind the wheel is completely false. Every female I know have heavy feet, and so does everyone knows this is true. They also almost all of the time let go of the wheel immediately when something goes wrong.
