I’ve waited 10 years to do my post-graduation. I dropped out of a distance education programme, because I couldn’t attend contact classes. I have been waiting for something like this. I joined this programme because it provides me a comfort level – I can attend class at my convenience. This is a great initiative [online programmes] and I greatly appreciate the efforts of the student executives. I email my concerns at midnight and a response will be in my inbox when I get back to work. The effort the support team puts to resolve our concerns is greatly appreciable.

Sayeelakshmi,

10 years of work experience now in a management role with an MNC

I’ve wanted to do an MBA for a very long time, but taking a break from work or attending contact classes for traditional distance education programmes were not possible. I opted for Bharathidasan University program because now using the Avagmah Technology platform, I can study on my laptop and smartphone whenever and wherever I want. The faculty lectures are delivered via live and recorded video classes allowing me to study at my own comfort. This course is ideal for working professionals like me who want to help grow their career further

Sai Kumar Mangapuram,

14 years of work experience

As a working professional we have to juggle with family, work and other commitments. With less time to pursue higher studies, the online platform at Pondicherry University is a boon for us to up-skill ourselves. Recommend all career-minded professionals to make use of this great facility. It is one of the best resource available in India for distance education

Balaji Subramanian,

The technologies that Avagmah presented was quite innovative and very well adapted to the requirements of recreating the classroom in a digital space. The idea was to take our faculty and their expertise to locations across India, in a more effective manner. You can be a part of the IIMB classroom using even a mobile phone. If you look at it from the institute end, as faculty, we are able to interact with these students one on one and replicate a lot of the real classroom experience that we have in IIMB in a virtual space. So, I would say it is low cost, simple and certainly very effective. Read More as infrastructure constraints that most schools in India have. If any school wishes to be on the forefront of education and be more relevant to meeting the needs of the students, it is absolutely necessary to leverage the power of technology. View Less

Categorical Data Analysis

taught by Brian Marx

This online course, “Categorical Data Analysis” will focus on a logistic regression approach for the analysis of contingency table data, where the cell entries represent counts that are cross-tabulated using categorical variables. Tests for (conditional) independence are discussed in the context of odds-ratios and relative risks, for both two-way and three-way data tables. After the ground work is laid for logistic regression models for binomial responses, more complex data structure will be introduced, e.g. those having more categorical variables or even continuous covariates. As a broad view is taken through the generalized linear model framework, opportunity is taken to also present a few model variations, such as Probit regression for binomial responses and Poisson regression for count data. Model checking (residuals, goodness-of-fit), model inference (testing, confidence intervals), model interpretation (odds-ratios, EL50s), and model selection (AIC, automatic procedures, testing reduced models) are all detailed. The focus of this course will remain laser sharp on logistic regression modeling and on the corresponding interpretation of these models, rather than the theory behind them.

This course may be taken individually (one-off) or as part of a certificate program.

WEEK 1: Categorical Responses and Contingency Tables

  • Binomial and multinomial distributions
  • Maximum Likelihood
  • Test of proportions
  • Joint, marginal and conditional probabilities
  • Odds ratio and relative risk
  • Test of independence
  • Three-way tables
  • Conditional independence and homogenous association

WEEK 2: Generalized Linear Models

  • Components of a generalized linear model
  • Binary data: logistic and probit models
  • Poisson regression for count data
  • Model checking and resideual analysis
  • Inference about model parameters
  • Goodness-of-fit and deviance

WEEK 3: Applications and Interpretations for Logistic Regression

  • Interpretation in logistic regression
  • Odds-ratio, EL50, probability rate of change
  • Inference and confidence intervals for logistic regression
  • Grouped and ungrouped data
  • Categorical predictors/ indicator variables/ coding
  • Multiple logistic regression

WEEK 4: Building and Applying Logistic Regression Models

  • Strategies in model selection
  • Model checking and AIC
  • Forward, stepwise, backward algorithms
  • Likelihood ratio testing for models
  • Deviance and residuals assessment

What Is Network Cabling? Total Comms Training #optical #fiber, #optical #fibre,

What is network cabling?

Network cables are used to connect and transfer data and information between computers, routers, switches and storage area networks. Cables are essentially the carrier or media through which data flows.

There are different types of network cable, and the appropriate type to use will depend on the structure and topology of the overall architecture of the system. The most commonly used types of network cables are dominated by what is referred to as twisted pair cable . In local area networks, twisted pair cable is by far the moist commonly used type of cable.

Twisted pair cable is used in many ethernet networks. Comprising of four pairs of thin wires or conductors, these wires are contained inside of the insulation or outer sheath of the cable. Each pair is twisted into several additional twists. These twists are to prevent interference from other devices and indeed from other adjacent cables!

Fibre optic cabling is specified where high bandwidth is needed; especially in the data centre environment and where an installation demands high capacity, typically a hospital, airports, banks. Fibre optic is fast becoming the medium of choice for any installation that is sending high volumes of data!

Of cource, there are other types of cables, i.e. coaxial, multipair and of course, other types of media such as wireless.

Online Class: Film Appreciation

Course Description

‘Film Appreciation for Modern Audiences’ is intended as a journey through the world of film. It is a sampling of the thought and accumulated critical opinion that forms the basis of the modern stature of 100 years of film-making–as art or culturally important dramatic work.

If you love film, then this course will help you learn more about film analysis, film reviews and discussions, period genres and movements in film style, and more. It will provide you an informed opinion that will hopefully make your enjoyment of the film medium deeper.

This course may be useful for professionals who need to be informed and conversant about the film-industry; for the layman who wants to know as much as he/she can about the world of film for personal enjoyment; or for the student, hoping to become familiar with the ‘lay-of-the-land’ for film-criticism.

Lessons include discussions on the following:

  • How you can get real enjoyment from the films you watch, and why you should care
  • Early film-history
  • The process of film-making and how it relates to understanding the films you watch
  • A look at 100 years of film-styles, genres and movements
  • A discussion of film-psychology, and some fascinating aspects of the perception of films
  • A review of ‘films to watch’, taken in 20-year periods starting in 1900, and moving through 2007, featuring all the classics from each era
  • General ideas about film and art-theory as a consumer habit
  • Film composers to know
  • Film directors to know
  • How to get your twenty-dollar’s worth at the movie-theater
  • New ways to enjoy film and new audience technologies
  • And much more

Lesson 1: The Value of Film Viewing

    Computer Programming Courses

    Computer Programming Courses

    What is computer programming?

Computer programming refers to the process of developing a series of instructions in order to enable a computer to perform specific tasks. These instructions are referred to as computer programs .

The purpose behind programming is to find a sequence of instructions that will automate performing a particular task or solving a particular problem. These instructions are written in special programming languages, and people wishing to pursue a career in computer programming are required to learn these languages.

Different types of programming languages are used for different functions. Being competent in computer programming is a very valuable skill, as there is great demand for qualified and experienced computer programmers.

What will I learn when I study computer programming?

Computer programming courses may differ depending on where you study. You are therefore strongly advised to do adequate research about the particular course that you wish to pursue.

Always bear in mind that different computer training courses may teach you different programming languages. Some employers require candidates with knowledge of specific programming languages. It is thus important to frequent popular job websites in order to gain insight into the specific requirements that prospective employers are looking for when hiring programmers.

Although we do not offer programming courses at Skills Academy, we do offer many other computer-based courses. We also offer courses with a type of programming component to them.

Can I study computer programming at college?

There are many institutions, including colleges, which offer computer programming courses. When choosing a course, you need to make sure that it is offered by an accredited institution, and that it will cover the subjects you want to study.

It is worthwhile to take as much time as you need to research the different options. You may discover that you are actually more passionate about another area in computers.

Conducting adequate research and comparing your options is important. It is better to take your time and to be certain about your decision, as opposed to rushing into a decision and not being happy.

Students who take the time and effort to do research are more likely to finish their studies, and are generally happier with regard to the choices that they have made.

Can I study computer programming part-time?

Some educational institutions may require you to study on a full-time basis. This means that you will need to commute to and from campus every day. Fortunately, this is not your only option. There are a number of educational institutions that allow you to study part-time.

Many students prefer to study part-time via distance learning. Studying via distance learning means that you can study at home and create your own studying schedule. You will not be required to attend classes and you can study at a pace that suits you.

Although Skills Academy does not offer any programming courses, we do offer a wide range of other computer courses that you can study via distance learning. Some of these courses have a programming component to them, even though programming is not the primary focus.

What can I do with a qualification in computer programming?

Once you have obtained a qualification in computer programming, it can benefit you in a number of ways. You could use it to enhance your CV, or to show a prospective employer that you are serious about your career.

Depending on the type of qualification that you receive, you could potentially use it to enter the job market. Different companies and positions have different requirements. It is up to you as the student to conduct your own research into the job market.

Should you be unsure about which course to study, please feel free to contact a Course Expert. who will be more than happy to help you decide on a computer course that is right for you.

    SPHR-PHR Self Study Course

The HR certification exams are tough. They re not unbeatable, but they are definitely nothing to sneer at. Any exam with a nearly 50% fail rate is going to require some major preparation, right?

So you buy an $800 set of books and CDs and hope that you can focus enough time out of your busy life to absorb the material and pass the exam.

Time and time again I ve seen that scenario play out with a negative ending. Some poor HR professional thinks that she can just pay the money, get the study materials, and pass the exam.

However, she is missing a key piece of the puzzle. It s called motivation. It s called accountability. After all, we re only human, right? And with work, family, and social responsibilities clamoring for our time, you better believe that your studies will go on the back burner in the event of a conflict.

    What if

What if there was some way to keep you on track with your studies without having to join a local study group and conform to their schedule?

Wouldn t it be nice to have automatic updates a few times a week with study tips, areas to focus on, and ideas for incorporating what you learn into your day job. What if there was a tool that did all that, plus offered access to practice exams, unlimited email support, and a time-tested study guide for passing the HR certification exams?

I have good news for you, because you have found that tool. Click here to buy the self study course .

    What others are saying

Thank you! You definitely hit the nail on the head with this, as I ve been really dragging my feet studying for this. Thanks again for creating this!
    Debbie

I attempted the PHR in June and came up short by 20 points. Heartbreaker. I was reluctantly planning my study strategy when I received the info on your study guide. It has been most helpful.
    Kelly

I want to thank you so much for going out of your way in helping me prepare for my PHR. It is so very much appreciated.

    Our Mission.

The mission of RCCD Distance Education (formerly Open Campus) is to extend access to learning through distance education. Objectives: To facilitate learning at a distance, Distance Education provides:

    • Educational technology to the colleges, faculty, and students to support the delivery of online-based courses and services
    • Professional development and training for faculty
    • Expertise and experience
    • Blackboard management, production and problem solving.

As of April 21, the Open Campus department has changed its name to Distance Education. We thank you for your patience as we work to complete the changes to website by the middle of summer.

What Are Online Based or Distance Education classes?

Online-based courses, also called Distance Education classes, may take two different forms:

Online classes are taken exclusively over the Internet. Please note that, while some online courses provide all instructional content over the Internet, others may require some on-campus meetings. Please see the course schedule or WebAdvisor for more information.

Hybrid classes meet both on campus and online. Think of them as a combination or blending of online classes and face-to-face classes.

In a hybrid class, you will attend meetings on campus during the dates and times listed in the schedule of classes. Since the on-campus portion of hybrid classes could take place at any of our three colleges (Riverside City, Norco or Moreno Valley), hybrid classes are listed in the schedule by the college where the on-campus meetings will take place.

Are there Face-to-Face classes that use the Internet?

Web-Enhanced classes are traditional face-to-face classes that are supplemented with course websites and the use of Internet resources. Unlike hybrid or fully-online classes, all web-enhanced class meetings take place on campus.

    Where Do I Start?

For more information about Blackboard and support, visit

Career Facts – Accounting Program – Business and Economics Department –

    #

    Accounting Program Career Facts

    What They Do:

Accountants and auditors prepare, analyze, and verify financial reports and taxes and monitor information systems that furnish this information to managers in business, industry, and government.

The major fields of accounting are public, management, and government accounting. Public accountants have their own businesses or work for public accounting firms. They perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients, who may be corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations, or individuals. Management accountants (also called industrial, corporate, or private accountants) record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Other responsibilities include budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management Government accountants and auditors maintain and examine the records of government agencies and audit private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulations or taxation.

Within each field, accountants often concentrate on one aspect of accounting. For example, many public accountants concentrate on tax matters, such as preparing individual income tax returns and advising companies of the tax advantages and disadvantages of certain business decisions.

Increasing numbers of accounting graduates are working in private corporations. Management accountants analyze and interpret the financial information corporate executives need to make sound business decisions. They also prepare financial reports for non-management groups, including stockholders, creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities. Within accounting departments, they may work in financial analysis, planning and budgeting, cost accounting, and other areas.

    Who Would Enjoy It:

People with accounting jobs understand information systems and are skilled at working with computers to gather, report, and interpret information. Skills in human relations and interviewing are essential because accountants need to understand and solve financial problems for other people.

Accounting covers a wide variety of jobs including Financial Reporting, Income Tax Research and Preparation, Information Systems Design, Auditing, Budget Preparation, and Cost Accounting. Levels of accounting jobs range from clerical bookkeeping to Vice-President of Finance/Chief Financial Officers.

    What They Earn:

The average starting salary for someone with a bachelor s degree is about $35,000 per year, yet salaries ranged from $30,000 to $40,000. Those with 1 to 3 years experience will increase to about $50,000 a year, with salaries ranging from $30,000 and $60,000 in the higher management positions. After 10 to 15 years of experience in this field, one may earn up to $110,000 per year. Starting salaries with an associate degree vary with the individual s education and work experience. Bookkeeping jobs for students working on a degree vary from $8.00 per hour on up depending upon education and experience.

    How Many Jobs Available:

Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. Each year, several hundred thousand jobs for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks will become available as these clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. The large size of the occupation ensures plentiful job openings, including many opportunities for temporary and part-time work.

How Much Schooling, Training, or Skill Development:

Most professional accountant and internal auditor positions require at least a bachelor s degree in accounting or a related field. However, many employers are beginning to prefer candidates who have earned a master s degree. A variety of bookkeeping and paraprofessional accounting jobs are available for people with less than an associate degree. There appears to be a growing trend for these jobs to request a minimum of an associate degree.

Accountants traditionally have been detail-oriented and that is still important, but modern accountants require a much broader set of abilities. The modern accountant needs highly developed analytical skills to deal with the ever-changing business environment. Good oral and written communication skills are a necessity. Interpersonal skills are highly desirable. The ability to effectively work with computers is a necessity. Computerization lessened the focus on repetitive, detail-oriented work in accounting in favor of analysis and communication.

Based on recommendations made by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, most states currently require CPA candidates to complete 150 semester hours of college coursework. Students already holding a bachelor s degree in another field who earn an associate degree in accounting may meet the educational qualifications for the CPA examination and entry into professional levels of accounting. In Michigan, the 150-hour law can be met with LCC classes if the student has a 4-year degree already.

Advice on Selecting High School Courses #yale #online #course #selection

    #

Advice on Selecting High School Courses

The high school transcript is almost always the most important document in a student’s application. But it is hard to conceive of a situation in which the appearance (or absence) of any one particular class on a transcript would determine the applicant’s outcome. The admissions committee does not make its decisions based on a piecemeal review of an applicant’s recommendations, test scores, activities, or individual elements of a high school transcript. It considers each application as a comprehensive picture of that student.

When the admissions committee looks at your transcript, it will not focus on whether you have taken any specific course. It will be far more interested to see that you have challenged yourself with difficult coursework, and have done well.

    Trajectories Trends

Trends are important. Remember, the admissions committee is primarily concerned with what kind of Yale student you will be. So it is very important that we see a high level (or an improving degree) of rigor and success throughout your high school years. This includes your senior year. If you wish to make your application among the most competitive, you must take a challenging senior program and continue to excel in it. Senior year is not the time to take a light course load. Do not catch “senioritis!” The admissions committee will check an applicant’s senior year program and performance before offering admission.

Remember that we are looking for students who will make the most of Yale and the most of their talents. Knowing how you have engaged in high school gives us an idea of how you might engage at Yale. If you push yourself to excel all the way through your senior year and beyond, we take that to be a good sign that you will do the same at Yale. And that is the type of student we welcome.

Yale does not have any specific entrance requirements (for example, there is no foreign language requirement for admission to Yale). But we do look for students who have taken a balanced set of the rigorous classes available to them. Generally speaking, you should try to take courses each year in English, science, math, the social sciences, and foreign language.

We encourage you to pursue your intellectual interests, so long as it is not at the expense of your program’s overall rigor or your preparedness for college. Be honest with yourself when you are deciding between different courses. Are you choosing a particular course because you are truly excited about it and the challenge it presents, or are you also motivated by a desire to avoid a different academic subject?

You should also bear in mind that many other selective colleges do have minimum course requirements for entering students. It is best to research each school individually.

    Ask Yourself These Questions

When weighing your course selection for the upcoming year, here are a few things to consider:

    • Am I taking a well-balanced academic program that will provide me with a good foundation for college?
    • Am I prepared to take college-level math, writing, and science courses?
    • Do I feel challenged by the courses that I am taking?
    • Are my courses among the more rigorous ones available to me at my school?
    • Am I seeking challenge or avoiding it?
    • Overall, is my four-year high school program among the most challenging programs available at my school?

It is wise to first consult your teachers and high school counselor on what courses are most appropriate for you at your high school. You will doubtless have to make some difficult decisions about which courses to take and how to balance your schoolwork and your extracurricular pursuits. We hope that this advice helps inform you as you make those decisions.

    New York Defensive Driving

Defensive Driving and IPIRP: New York Defensive Driving, otherwise known as an accident prevention course, is part of the New York Department of Motor Vehicle’s Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program (or IPIRP). This course is designed to teach motorists driving strategies that help minimize risks associated with hazards on the road. In addition, this defensive driving course includes applicable New York state traffic laws that help drivers use safer driving techniques to avoid and prevent accidents.

How it Works: The New York Department of Motor Vehicles allows you to complete a defensive driving course to reduce up to four points on your driving record and provide you with a mandatory 10% insurance reduction for 3 years. Whether you are required by the NYS DMV, looking to reduce ticket points and/or just want your 10% car insurance reduction. this state-approved course will help you meet your goal.

Online Defensive Driving: While New Yorkers have been completing this course for years in the classroom, it has just been made available in an online format. Florida DUI Laws and Penalties

    Florida Drunk Driving

    DUI Related Topics

    Drunk Driving Penalties in Florida

If you drink alcohol and drive you dramatically increase your chance of being in a crash. In addition, if you are pulled over and the officer asks you to take a blood, urine or breath test you are required to comply. Florida has the “Implied Consent Law”. When you sign your drivers license you have agreed to take these tests upon request. Refusal to take any of the tests will result in an immediate suspension for one year. A second refusal will result in an 18 month suspension.

    2011 DUI Statistics

According to Florida DMV records there were 33,625 DUI convictions in Florida in 2011. Of the 55,722 DUI tickets issued in Florida in 2011 – 9,328 were issued by the FHP, 23,649 were issued by police departments in Florida, and 21,868 were issued by Florida Sheriffs departments.

2010 Florida DUI Convictions in the large Florida Counties

    • Hillsborough County (Tampa) – 3,256
    • Miami-Dade – (Miami) – 2,274
    • Duval County – (Jacksonvile Area) – 2,222
    • Pinellas County (St Petersburg) – 1,824
    • Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach) – 1,561
    • Orange County (Orlando) – 1,383
    • Brevard County (Melbourne) – 1,072
    • Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) – 985

    Ignition Interlock

Florida law mandates that any driver convicted of a second DUI have an Ingnition Interlock device installed in their vehicle. A judge may order an Interlock installed on first convictions depending on circumstances. Read the details of the Florida Ignition Interlock program.

No one can drink alcohol and still drive safely. Drinking and driving causes accidents and deaths every day and therefore the penalties in Florida are very tough. If you drink and drive the result may be jail time, loss of your Florida drivers license, heavy fines, and much higher auto insurance rates. And a conviction will stay on your Florida driving record for 75 years.

Zero Tolerance for Drivers under 21

Florida has a Zero Tolerance law for drivers under 21. This means that any driver under 21 that is stopped by law enforcement and has a blood alcohol level of .02 or higher will automatically have their Florida drivers license suspended for 6 months. The .02 limit really means that you cannot have a single drink and drive. And that’s the idea.
