So, what will I actually be doing?

Tour operators require reps to work throughout the summer and winter seasons to ensure that holiday makers have an enjoyable trip. You’re the first point of contact for customers so be prepared to answer questions and resolve problems.

Your day will usually start with meeting the excited new arrivals at the airport and overseeing transfers to their accommodation. From there your duties may include:

  • Giving an introductory talk on the facilities and the area
  • Accompanying holidaymakers on excursions
  • Helping to arrange entertainment
  • Completing paperwork (yes, even reps have admin )

Of course, holidays rarely run completely smoothly and you may need to deal with unexpected dilemmas from lost passports to medical emergencies, so be prepared to deal with anything.

The summer season runs from April to September and the winter season (ski reps) work October to December. And it’s not as easy as it looks, definitely not a nine to five position, you’ll be on the go for 12 hours a day, six days a week.

So what can you do when the holiday season is over? People who love working as a holiday rep can progress to becoming team leaders or resort managers. Others find work as a travel agent or tour guide. The skills you learn as a holiday rep (customer service. time management, events organising) are transferable to many other careers so it looks great on your CV .

Newcomers will earn about £450 to £500 per month while more experienced reps can earn up to £800 per month. But there are plenty of bonuses including:

If you’ve ever gone away and seen the reps leading a pub crawl, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was all sunbathing and partying, but it you’d be wrong, it’s as much hard work as it is fun.

Is there study involved?

There are no set requirements to become a holiday rep but many tour operators are looking for four GCSEs (grade C or above) and experience working in customer care. You also need to be aged 18 plus (sometimes this can be 21 and over).

Applicants with.

  • A qualification in the industry (such as a BTEC Diploma in travel and tourism)
  • A working knowledge of one or more foreign languages
  • Administrative experience

Job Description

Licensed drug and alcohol counselors deal with individuals who may be addicted to alcohol and/or prescription or illegal drugs. Counselors monitor their clients’ progress by taking notes and making reports throughout the course of treatment. Because substance abuse problems affect more than just the individual, counselors may also provide support to friends and family members. They may work with other health care professionals to determine the optimal treatment plan and find ongoing support for an addict upon release from treatment, such as a 12-step program.

Job Requirements

While mental health counselors in general need to possess at least a master’s degree in order to become licensed, licensure for drug and alcohol counselors depends on the state. Some states may only require a high school education and certification. The National Board for Certified Counselors offers the National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential, as well as specialty certifications such as the Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) credential (www.nbcc.org ).

To earn the NCC credential, candidates must complete a certain amount of relevant coursework, pass an exam and possess counseling experience. For the MAC credential, candidates must first already have earned the NCC credential and then complete coursework, pass an exam and possess counseling experience relevant to the topic of addiction.

Even if postsecondary education is not required for licensure in one’s chosen state, it is a good foundation from which to start a counseling career. Colleges offer certificate and associate degree programs in substance abuse counseling, which may include courses in the science of addiction, sociology and general counseling. For those who wish to pursue additional education, earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology may be a helpful option to consider.

Career Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that substance abuse and behavioral disorder counseling positions were predicted to grow at a faster-than-average rate of 22% between 2014 and 2024. Substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors made a mean yearly wage of $42,920 in May 2015.

Licensed drug and alcohol counselors work with patients recovering from alcoholism or drug addition. They may work individually with patients or in group settings, and they may also offer counseling to the families of patients. Those in this profession have a mean salary of about $43,000 per year.

    If the world of the travel agent suits your skills, it’s good to know there’s plenty of room for career progression. Travel agents can become a team leader in a call centre or a branch manager. And as you gain more experience,you can find work with bigger tour operators or work with agencies offering more specialised breaks such as adventure or trekking holidays.

    With the world literally at your feet, how much can you expect to earn? Travel agents starting out can expect to earn around £12k but working hard and getting some experience goes a long way in this business and more seasoned travel agents can earn anything up to £30k.

    a) Your payment for this policy and enrollment form are received within 21 days of the date your Initial Payment or Deposit for your Trip is received; and
