Top 10 Cheap International Travel Destinations in the World, top travel

Top 10 Cheap International Travel Destinations in the World

    Top travel destinations

I love to travel, but as a college student, jet-setting doesn t always fit my bank account. Weekend getaways, staycations, and last-minute discounts help me make the most of my travel budget, but what about budget travel to more exotic destinations?

I ve found that visiting places with favorable exchange rates has worked out well for international destinations especially when I can also find the best airline ticket deals to get there. Some of the main factors I consider when evaluating a potential destination are: cost of living, visa fees, airfare, activities, culture, and safety. Using this strategy, I ve been able to travel to five South American countries in the past two years on a relatively tight budget.

With all of this background in mind, here is my list of the top ten budget travel destinations, with the underlying theme being very favorable exchange rates and extremely low costs of living.

Best Cheap Travel Destinations Around the World

    1. Uganda

Kampala is one of the cheapest cities in the world, and Uganda, known as The Pearl of Africa, hosts Lake Victoria, which is the second largest lake in the world. The official language is Swahili, but English is widely spoken, especially among the staff at hotels and tour companies.

Kampala is at the top of my travel bucket list because it s a hub for adventure activities such as whitewater rafting on the Nile River and bungee jumping. The city of Jinja also offers quad biking and river boarding (boogie boarding down the river).

    2. Jamaica

Jamaica has plenty of luxury options, but thanks to the island s new international airport, deals on 3,000 new hotel rooms, and clean beaches, Budget Travel has rated Jamaica one of the top budget travel destinations for 2011.

International airfare has been pretty affordable lately. I checked Kayak.com and round-trip flights from the eastern U.S. are under $400, which is cheap enough for me to justify a visit to an affordable hotel for a long weekend. Homemade Jamaican jerk chicken is a great plus too!

The only reason Jamaica isn t number one on this list is because I avoid hurricane season (July and August), but I d rather visit during the winter when I m craving some sunshine anyway.

    3. Bangladesh

Bangladesh was rated Lonely Planet s number one value destination in 2011. According to Lonely Planet, you can buy meals for under a dollar and enjoy river cruises for rates lower than what you d spend in nearby India. Bangladesh may be a non-traditional travel destination, but don t overlook it.

With the exchange rate, I ll be able to stretch my travel budget enough to sail by the Irrawaddy River Dolphins and see tigers in the Sunderbans National Park outside of Khulna. Bangladesh also has a wide range of handmade crafts such as coconut masks, bamboo sculptures, and folk dolls. Leatherwork and pearls are also popular exports.

The U.S. State Department warns that tourist visas granted upon arrival are usually only valid for 15 days, so you shouldn t expect to have an extended stay without a fine or special permission.

    4. Hungary

I m not sure exactly when Hungary came onto my travel radar. Budapest has gotten a lot of publicity lately for its beauty as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Fortunately, Hungary is also an affordable travel destination. You can get huge meals in markets for $5, public transportation via train for $1, and hotels for $20 a night.

The city seems like a curious mixture of 14th century architecture and modernization. Highlights include the gorgeous architecture of the Fisherman s Bastion, the Buda Royal Palace, and the tranquil Margaret Island.

    5. Ecuador

I spent an entire summer in Quito, and there s still so much I haven t seen. With just $3 for lunch, I bought soup, rice, chicken, juice, and Jell-O. A bus across the city cost 50 cents, and because Ecuador uses the U.S. dollar, I didn t even have to worry about losing money in the exchange. I wish I had time to explore beach towns like Montanita and cloud forests like Mindo.

The beauty of Ecuador is that it has a rich natural ecosystem, from the Andes Mountains running through the country to the amazing coastal rain forest, yet you re also near incredible major cities like Quito and Guayaquil.

    6. Thailand

I ve heard that the street food in Thailand is world-class. Blogger Richard Barrow tried a Thai Food Challenge and ate street food in Thailand for every meal for an entire month. His spending averaged less than $4 a day on food. At the end of the challenge, he had tried one hundred different meals. How can you beat the price, variety, and deliciousness?

It s no surprise, then, that Thai cooking classes are so popular, but there are plenty of things to do for budget travelers as well: relax on the beaches, explore elegant Buddhist temples, shop at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, and check out the busy colorful city of Bangkok.

    7. Peru

Don t be misled by the prices at Machu Picchu; Peru is really a very affordable travel destination. I lived in the Ancash region, just north of Lima, for almost four months last fall. A typical three-course lunch was as low as $2 in the town of Huaraz. Hostels throughout the country are budget-friendly as well. A typical bed in a dorm room cost $8 to $10, which usually included a simple breakfast of juice, bread, and fruit.

I also found public transportation to be affordable, although airfare within the country is expensive. For example, a bus from Cusco to Lima cost me $37, while the cheapest round trip plane ticket I found was $160.

    8. Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is an attractive budget travel destination for baseball fans and suntanners alike. Santo Domingo, the capital city, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site because there are still colonial elements from Christopher Columbus s arrival in 1492. The island comes alive during Carnaval Dominicano in February and Semana Santa in April.

The Dominican Republic is home to a wide range of lodging options to fit any budget, from luxury resorts to affordable hostels. Although it s not the cheapest country in the region, there is a good mix of sun, safety, and affordability.

    9. Croatia

AskMen named Croatia one of its Top Ten Cheap Vacations, and they say hostels go for about $10 per night. I visited the city of Dubrovnik a few years ago, and I remember being able to see my toes while swimming in the crystal-clear water. I also remember seeing the bright orange roofs on buildings showing which of them were bombed in the Yugoslavian War from 1991 to 1995.

While food and lodging were both relatively cheap in the Pearl of the Adriatic, I did have a problem finding shop owners and waiters who spoke English. I should have bought a Croatian phrase book.

    10. Argentina

I took part in a college study abroad program in Buenos Aires, so Argentina holds a special place in my heart. The cost of living is cheaper than in similar cities in the United States, but inflation is an issue with prices rising for the past few years. For example, I noticed that groceries were cheaper when I was there in December 2009 than when I visited exactly one year later. A bottle of Coke cost 3.50 pesos then and rose to 6 pesos in 2010. However, public transportation remains affordable as does lodging.

There are other equally exciting cities that are cheaper than Buenos Aires like Cordoba, Salta, and Jujuy.

    Final Word

I m grateful that I can still fit international travel in my budget. When I save up for a trip, I plan my itinerary accordingly. Choosing destinations with a lower cost of living allows me to explore new destinations for a longer period of time.

These are just the top 10 places on my list. How about you? Have you been to any of these countries? Are there any affordable places on your travel bucket list?

Cheap Christmas Vacations 2018 – Cheap Christmas Travel, cheap travel destinations.#Cheap

    Destination 360

    Cheap travel destinations

    Cheap travel destinations

Cheap Christmas vacations can make it possible for many travelers to get together with family and friends during the holiday season, even when their budgets are tight and missing out on family gatherings might look like a real possibility. A great thing about cheap Christmas travel is that there are so many places to go that it s possible to find one that suits everybody and is also reasonably easy to get to. Major airlines, cruise ships, and even Amtrak and other trains book up early around the holidays, and as it s such a desirable time to travel, they don t offer their cheapest rates at this time of year. However, there are a few possibilities to look into when researching your Christmas vacation.

    Cheap travel destinations

Vacation packages are one of the best ways to go for the holidays; if you can bundle your transportation with accommodations and other necessities, it s possible to find many more cheap Christmas vacation destinations that you might otherwise. If you re having a family reunion, then seeing if you can get a group rate on a hotel might be worthwhile, or even better, book a vacation rental. You ll have the full house to yourself and plenty of room for a large group of family or friends, as well as the chance to have holiday meals together just as if you were at home.

When it comes to destinations, many travelers envision spending the holidays on sunny beaches, surrounded by clear blue water and maybe a few palm trees. There are numerous possibilities for Caribbean resorts, such as on Barbados, Jamaica, or the Bahamas (all of which have great kid-friendly resorts), as well as smaller Central American destinations such as Costa Rica or Honduras. These later options can be particularly good deals, as they re still developing as tourist destinations and likely to be significantly cheaper than other places.

Mexico is also a terrific place to go for a cheap Christmas vacation. Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel, and Cancun are all beautiful beach destinations with great restaurants, resorts, and plenty of things to do, from golf to snorkeling. Many of the resorts in these parts of Mexico are all-inclusive as well, which makes it easy to budget ahead of time, as you can pay a flat fee and not have to come up with extra cash during your trip.

If your plans include a holiday cruise, cheap Christmas vacation destinations from ports of call including Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, San Diego, and Los Angeles aboard the Holland America line offer the entire family a fun-filled cruise holiday vacation. Aboard the ship you can celebrate Christmas with elegant dining, Yule Log parade, lighting of the tree ceremony, Christmas morning brunch, and scheduled singing by a professional choir. For the kids, there are photo opportunities with Santa, Christmas storytelling, and snack time with Santa s favorite of milk and cookies.

Many travelers also dream of snow during the holidays, and cheap Christmas vacations abound for those willing to do a little research. Luxury ski resorts such as Vail and Aspen will not be so cheap this time of year, but if you re interested in skiing, why not try one of the smaller ski areas with less expensive accommodations? Vermont, Maine, and New York State are all terrific ski destinations, and Idaho, Utah, and California have their share of great resorts as well. Christmas ski vacations can be the perfect way to spend some time outside before relaxing with the family and enjoying a warm fire.

    Cheap travel destinations

    Friday, November 3

Update From: Al Ferguson – President of Legendary Journeys

The last ten days have been incredibly difficult. I am watching the best of human nature (and the worst). Regardless, I will be as open, honest and transparent as possible. I will work this problem to conclusion no matter the time to do it. I am trying here. It is my only job. I am responsible and accept it. I am deeply sorry for the situation that is occurring and its affect on you. With that in mind. I want to update you on our progress of the last 9 days.

    HOW WE GOT HERE:

I would be remiss if I didn t clearly state that legal action is underway for theft. Former employees have violated Non-Disclosure Agreements and their No Compete employment agreements. Some have suggested we are a right to work state and they are low paying jobs that should allow them to do whatever they wish. HOWEVER, they didn t pay for the business they stole. They didn’t Market it, find the customers, pay for any of the related costs. Instead, they unethically stole proprietary information and contacted my customers and convinced them to cancel and rebook (or transfer) a reservation with a financial incentive to the client. Its unethical even immoral. This theft starts a ball rolling that affects all of us. Additionally, the cancellations in Cuba (state department recommending no American go ), Caribbean hurricanes, and terrorism have dramatically affected Legendary Journeys business. THESE ARE FACTS. A perfect storm that has been impossible to overcome. And the distribution system and the use of travel agents is different today than when I entered the travel business. Perhaps you don’t even want to. THESE ARE FACTS. BUT even with all of this said, I will do everything possible to resolve any issue or claim.

    1. WE HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH ALL OF OUR CLIENTS: Every client with a reservation has received an email with great detail of our situation. It is possible that an email did not deliver (for variety of reasons) but if that is the case, just advise us BY EMAIL ONLY and we will resend our summary.

    3. LEGENDARY JOURNEYS HAS CLOSED OPERATIONS: That does not mean we are out of business. It means we are not accepting any new reservations. We are operating with a skeleton crew to administer the closure of Legendary Journeys. We have not disappeared. Hundreds of you have spoken to our staff or communicated by email. THIS IS A FACT. We will continue to operate (while closed) to dissolve substantial assets to reimburse clients that have not traveled or been reimbursed. Then Legendary Journeys will be no more.

    4. LEGENDARY JOURNEYS HAS SUBSTANTIAL REAL ESTATE ASSETS TO PROTECT YOU: We own our buildings. We have hired commercial real estate specialists now and they begin the process to sell those assets. All funds through those sales are deposited into an account called LEGENDARY JOURNEYS CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT.

    5. LEGENDARY JOURNEYS HAS SUBSTANTIAL OTHER ASSETS TO PROTECT YOU: We own our motor coaches, our transportation, our equipment and other assets related to the business. We have hired transportation specialists now and they begin the process to sell those assets. Again, those funds will cover any refunds due. All funds through those sales are deposited into an account called LEGENDARY JOURNEYS CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT.

    6. LEGENDARY JOURNEYS IS COMMUNICATING TO OUR CLIENTS: Every day the most efficient way to communicate with Legendary Journeys is BY EMAIL to [email protected] NO OTHER EMAIL AT LEGENDARY JOURNEYS EXISTS. IF you send an email to any other address it is not delivered or seen. ALL emails will receive a reply and your booking invoice has complete communication document summary of your email and our replies. We are now responding to ALL emails within 1 business day. Comments you read to the contrary are FALSE and NOT accurate. Legendary Journeys will continue to communicate with our customers until this closure is resolved. Additionally, Legendary Journeys is communicating by phone. We have a skeleton staff that is answering phones and calling messages back. This process is slower than email however we continue to provide this service. We are now responding to ALL calls within 1 business day. Comments you read to the contrary are FALSE and NOT accurate. My point is that we are going to be open, honest, transparent and my commitment to have Legendary Journeys skeleton staff communicate with you is a VITAL part of this process.

    8. YOU SHOULD EXPLORE AND PURSUE ALL YOUR OPTIONS: For example, we have advised you have specific rights for Credit Card charge back. We have already posted substantial notifications for card charge backs and have not challenged a single one. They are being processed. IF you have not… we remind you the fastest, most efficient thing you should explore is THIS PROCESS. We are making a public statement to ANY AND ALL Insurance companies that Legendary Journeys HAS CLOSED Its OPERATION AND WILL NOT RE-OPEN. You should explore your options with your insurance as we remind you this is the fastest, most efficient thing for THIS PROCESS.

Finally, I again take full responsibility for these events. I didn t steal clients. I didn t create the politics of Cuba. I didn t create consumer confidence issues in travel because of Hurricanes, the destruction of Caribbean Islands or Terrorism. But I am responsible for the response. I continue to do my best. And I will. My track record of 30 years in the Travel Business proves this. My 20 years of Legendary Journeys seems to prove this as fact. I own my assets. My assets will eventually resolve the issues related to my closure.

To those of you that have said so many wonderful things about our history in travel over these many years… you will never know how that helped me get through some evenings. To those that have said some really untruthful and terrible things. I accept them. I will continue… and will until this is completed. that is all I will do.

    10 Best Value Travel Destinations

The new year has just started and most of us are already musing about where we want to travel in the upcoming months. Annual prognostications by several travel agencies predict that tourists will flock to destinations across the world. However, in a barely recovering economy, money may still be tight for many of us. This doesn’t mean you can’t explore the world, though. If your travel budget is small, but your wanderlust is big, check out the ten best value travel destinations.

Here are the 10 Best Value Travel Destinations:

    India

    Greece

    Palm Springs

    Ecuador

    Nicaragua

    The Jersey Shore

    Bulgaria

    Portugal

    Palawan, Philippines

Palawan is THE top travel destination in the Philippines. Crystal-clear water, endless beaches, jungle rivers, and limestone cliffs make this tropical spot one of a kind. The Philippines are a generally pretty affordable country for travelers, making Palawan a fantastic great-value pick for Asia aficionados. The island offers stunning attractions like the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the Bacuit Archipelago. You may also venture to the Calamian Islands, which inspired Alex Garland to write The Beach. However, avoid the monsoon season from May to October.

    Ethiopia

Our last pick is Ethiopia, located in the Horn of Africa. This is a particularly attractive destination for the history-inclined. If you follow the country’s Historic Route, you get to see the Lake Tana monasteries. the Blue Nile Falls, the rock-hewn wonders of Lalibela, among other landmarks. While lodging and food in Ethiopia are inexpensive, transportation can be pricey, especially if you rent a vehicle / hire a driver or join an organized tour (which you will need to do in order to explore the country). Still, this will be one of your most rewarding travel experiences.

Think ahead about which month and week(s) would work best with your schedule and start your planning for your travel destinations. Use one of the many online travel websites or go to the individual countries or cities websites for travel ideas. With so many interesting, affordable options, you can take advantage of the best value travel destinations and enjoy the trip of a lifetime.

Cheap Travel Destinations – Discount Travel Destinations #travel #sweepstakes

    #cheap travel destinations
    #

    Share

The world is full of cheap travel destinations. Even if you are fighting the decline of the American dollar, you can still see exotic locales, stay in extravagant hotels and eat all the area’s finest foods, but you have to choose your destination carefully. Even former locations that were once the haven for budget travelers, from New Delhi to Prague, now can hardly be considered cheap travel destinations. But there is a growing crop of places that can still easily fit into your budget, and some of the top travel destinations in the world are increasingly budget-friendly.

This, of course, all depends on where you are traveling from. If you want to stay inside the United States and live on the west coast, few travel arrangements are cheaper than Las Vegas. The combination of hotel and airfare is usually less than $500, New Year’s and Christmas holidays notwithstanding. How expensive it gets once you land, though, is up to you. The key to finding discount travel destinations in the United States, though, is to stay away from the tourist-driven cities like New York City or Chicago. The southern states still offer many bargains, as does the dusty plains of Arizona and New Mexico .

Eastern Europe was once the premier spot to travel on a budget. After the fall of communism, the former Soviet countries opened their walls to tourists of all kinds. After so many years, however, a good deal of Eastern Europe has caught up with its western brethren. Bulgaria, Romania and the backwoods of Hungary and the Baltic states still reserve the right to be called cheap travel destinations, though, but who knows for how much longer.

Those wishing to see the lush rainforests and fertile plains of South America will find a number of discount travel destinations waiting for them. Ecuador and Bolivia offer the most for budget travelers – even in the major cities you will be shocked to see how cheap you can live.

Though the continent contains most of the world’s poorest countries, Africa is not usually a cheap place to visit. From traditionally high airfare to travel insurance to a number of other variables, African countries can make for surprisingly expensive vacations. Northern countries like the exotic Morocco or laid-back Tunisia are the continent’s best options as far as discount travel destinations go, and are some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Nearby Turkey has long been one of the cheapest travel destinations for Europeans and Americans alike, and has fallen prey to a common misconception that the words “Middle East” is synonymous with social unrest. Turkey is just as safe as most common travel destinations, and is a fascinating trip as you see where Europe and the Islam world collide.

The cheapest, though, is Southeast Asia. Nowhere will your dollar stretch further than in popular tourist destinations like Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Vietnam is another country that suffers from bad associations with its past, but the current country is often sited as one of the best travel destinations on the globe. The roads in Bangkok and Phuket have long been popular with foreigners, and have remained surprisingly affordable. Laos and Malaysia are the up and comers to the tourist game in Southeast Asia, but they will likely be cheap travel destinations for years to come.

    Cheap Travel Destinations

No matter what part of the world you want to see, there will be a way to save enough to enjoy the location to its fullest. Make sure that financial problems are the least of your concerns and travel to the diminishing number of cheap places the world has to offer while you still can.

While many travel-hungry Americans are hard-pressed for time and money, a number of domestic destinations offer scenic beauty and adventure without breaking the bank. Some of the nation s top bargain locations these days are ones people might not expect, from hedonistic havens to quieter yet equally captivating natural sites.

    Las Vegas

Las Vegas is no longer an exclusive playground for the rich and famous. In the wake of the recession, Sin City resorts and other businesses are offering significant discounts to lure cash-strapped visitors back to the city. As of 2010, hotels and airfare from the West Coast to Las Vegas cost around $500, although how much you spend in the casinos is another story. Once in Vegas, visitors can take advantage of buffets under $10, such as those at off-strip hotels Fiesta Rancho, Gold Coast and Green Valley Ranch. Some of the city s free entertainment includes the Bellagio fountains show, Fremont Street s massive overhead light display and Treasure Island s pirate show.

Budget Travel Vacation Ideas: 10 Best Budget Destinations for 2015 #portugal

    #cheap travel destinations
    #

    Where to Go in 2015!

Research suggests that 40 percent of American don’t take all their vacation days. We’re here to change all that! We’ve rounded up 10 brag-worthy places that are affordable and having their moment in 2015—the year we hope you’ll take ALL your vacation days. Not sure which of these 10 amazing destinations is right for you? Take our QUIZ to find out!

    1. Northern Italy

Best for: Big-city culture and natural beauty

Why 2015. If you’ve always wanted to go to Italy, this is the year to do it. Expo Milano (expo2015.org ), a World’s Fair event expected to bring in more than 20 million visitors, starts May 1 and runs through Oct. 31. The theme is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life and so far more than 130 countries are participating in this global effort to promote a healthier lifestyle and sustainability worldwide.

What to do. There’s so much more to Milan than shopping. Stroll the easy-to-navigate streets of Milan’s historic city center and visit the Duomo, one of Italy’s most spectacular churches—the view from the top is well worth the $15 price of admission. Craving the countryside? Don’t miss Lake Como, a beautiful natural haven home to George Clooney and hundreds of tiny picturesque towns like Gravedona, Bellagio, Brunate, and Como that are begging to be explored. For a little adventure along the Italian Riviera, try Portofino, a beautiful seaside resort town just a two-hour drive from Milan—you can also get there by taking the train from Milan to Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, or Genoa and connecting to Portofino by boat, bus, or taxi.

Where to stay. Hotels in Milan can be expensive, especially when conventions are going on. For a unique, authentic Italian experience, try staying in a local neighborhood rather than a pricey chain hotel—Airbnb has a number of options all over town starting at just $75 a night for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center. In Como, stay at Hotel Barchetta Excelsior for great views of the lake, the perfect spot to serve as your base for exploring the rest of the area by boat or funicular (hotelbarchetta.it . from $159). Stay at B B Tre Mari Portofino for beautiful views of the Piazzetta and the Ligurian Sea below (bebtremariportofino.it . from $122).

    2. BALI

Best for: Dreamy beaches and romance

Why 2015. If you’ve considered this Pacific paradise off-limits financially, this may be your year. Hotel prices on the Island of the Gods—the most popular tourist destination in Indonesia—are down 12 percent, according to the Hotel Price Index.

What to do. Take your pick: Relax on a distinctive black-sand beach (the color comes from iron, titanium, and other minerals deposited by Bali’s once-active volcanoes), get in the water for world-class surfing and diving (if you’re so inclined), explore the island’s jungle interior with its volcanoes and 10,000 temples (including the popular hillside temple Pura Luhur Batukau), or just hang by a hotel pool in one of the friendliest, gentlest environments on earth. When you’re ready for the Balinese version of a bustling metropolis, Ubud will delight you with its stunning royal palace and traditional market. (And you shouldn’t miss a chance to hear the island’s unique gamelan music, played primarily on traditional percussion instruments.) Whether you plant yourself on a beach or in the heart of Ubud, remember that you’ve come to Bali to be soothed into a state of perfect relaxation by the natural beauty and unique music and cultural traditions of this perfect island.

Where to stay. The Indigo Tree, in Ubud, is a short distance from the major sites but feels like a comfy cocoon, with coconut trees, a pool whose turquoise hue rivals the ocean’s, and lovely views of the island’s jungles and rice terraces. Want home-cooked meals served poolside? Just ask (indigotreebali.com . from $70).

    3. NASHVILLE

Best for: Music and hip neighborhoods

Why 2015. The buzz about Nashville has reached a fever pitch for 2015. No longer a sleepy country music mausoleum, the newly hip city has reported 48 straight months of growth. Go now, and you’ll be visiting the town at the height of its renaissance—but before everyone else is in on the secret.

A cruise ship is an excellent way to meet other singles just like you, and there are many affordable cruises traveling to the Bahamas year around. The Bahamas is one of the most beautiful places in the world. In addition to being beautiful, there are actually a lot of activities to do while on the ship, or on the island, with others. You can spend a quiet day walking or biking, along the canals through the city, where you can check out the organic markets, and purchase local delicatessens, along the way. Or you can experience some of the most famous pieces of artwork with a group tour at the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. Amsterdam is a busy place full of interesting people to meet on your guided tours of different attractions around town.

At Stitch, we want everyone’s travels to be fun, yet safe. When traveling to a different country, take a minute to research any cultural differences/laws that may be different from your own country. Also, consult with your doctor about any vaccines needed to visit that country. Finally, be mindful of your surroundings when in the foreign countries.

Do you have a trip planned for 2015? Do you want to try one of the places we mentioned? Have you already traveled some place this year? We want to know! Feel free to comment below and share. Safe travels!

    Best Budget Destinations for 2014

Conditions are perfect for visiting these near- and far-flung, culture-rich locales: Price-wise, 2014 is their year. Dipping hotel rates, new attractions, and some perennially affordable sights and eats make these five cities ideal to consider for your travel itinerary this year.

SOUTH AFRICA The country that Nelson Mandela changed forever will change you, too

Why in 2014: Take your pick of locales to visit in South Africa this year: Hotel rates are down 8 percent across the country. Put wildlife at the top of your agenda, whether you’re looking to see the big five on a safari or just want to hang out with the free-roaming penguins on Boulders Beach in Cape Town (careful, they bite). For a less risk-fraught animal excursion, Kruger National Park is one of the best on the continent. For an entrance fee of about $20, you can take in the South African landscape and keep your eyes peeled for both the big five and the little five (buffalo weaver, elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, ant lion, and rhino beetle). Beach lovers will flip for Cape Town’s beaches, at the intersection of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Go Atlantic (the western side) for sunbathing and watercolor sunsets; hit the Indian (the eastern side) for swimming and surfing. Many of the eastern beaches have lifeguards. Soweto township in Johannesburg offers numerous opportunities to absorb the city’s prominent history, such as the Nelson Mandela Museum and the Apartheid Museum. When you’re hungry, visit the restaurants on Vilikazi Street; the indigenous local food menus include tripe, morogo (boiled wild spinach), and ting ting (sour porridge).

Where to Stay: In Cape Town, the Parliament Hotel’s helpful staff, free breakfast, and safe location next to a police station are key basic reasons to book your stay. Nearby, you’ll find Company’s Gardens, where you can marvel at an aviary and scope out the oldest pear tree in Africa, and the Slave Lodge Museum, which educates visitors about South Africa’s history of oppression. (parliamenthotel.co.za. from $67)

VENICE Yes, Venice! Hit the enchanting city of canals while hotel rates are down

Why in 2014: Put “floating down picturesque Venetian canals in a gondola” on your 2014 itinerary. Spending time in Venice is now more affordable than ever — hotel rates are down 7 percent from last year. Along with the iconic gondola trip, visiting the Piazza San Marco is a must: The Sansovino Library and the Ducal Palace stand at either side. You can’t miss the two large granite columns from the 13th century that are topped with two symbols: the Lion of Saint Mark and a statue of Saint Theodore. Soak in the work of Venetian masters such as Vittore Carpaccio, Tiziano Vecelli, and Giorgione at Gallerie dell’Accademia, then follow it up with a dose of modern art at the Peggy Guggenheim museum, which showcases works from her personal collection by big names including Picasso, Dali, and Pollock. Ask your hotel’s concierge about water transportation to Murano, where you can see traditional glass blowing on a small tour. Be aware that there’s a hard sell at the end of the tour. They really want you to buy fancy glass.

Where to Stay: For opulent Venetian atmosphere, consider Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. Nice touches like Murano glass chandeliers and exposed beams add to the 1700s feel. (alpontemocenigo.com. from $115)

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Affordable all-inclusive resorts put this island paradise within reach

Why in 2014: Growing more popular by the day, the DR is a go-to 2014 beach destination if you’ve been priced out of vacation spots like Cabo or aren’t up for sharing sand with the fashion crowd in Tulum. The five-star all-inclusive Majestic Colonial Beach Resort in Punta Cana is surprisingly affordable, at about $212 per night for two people. For a more rustic trip, up-and-coming Las Terrenas, a little-known former fishing village in the Samaná province, is easy on the purse strings and heavy on pristine beaches. To get your nature fix, pay a visit to Los Haitises National Park, a protected virgin forest informally known as Caño Hondo. Rent a kayak for $3 (plus a licensed guide) and glide through lagoons and mangrove canals to spy on wildlife like brown pelicans and endangered leatherback turtles.

Where to Stay: The private and affordable Eva Luna, in Las Terrenas, has five Mexican-style villas, each with a kitchen. (villa-evaluna.com. from $100)

BUENOS AIRES The “Paris of South America” invites you to tango, shop, eat — and then tango some more

Why in 2014: Dubbed the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires has a cosmopolitan feel and is heavy on museums, historical sites, and nightlife. Go this year: Hotel rates are 8 percent lower than they were in 2013. In the evening, make a stop at busy Corrientes Avenue for everything from a slice at an all-night pizzeria to rare books to dance clubs where you can brush up on your tango skills — the street is rich in tango history. If it’s been a while since you’ve watched Evita, re-educate yourself on the life of Eva Perón at the Evita Museum, which spotlights Eva’s clothing, items from her charity work, and videos of her speeches. Afterward, view Argentinean culture through the eyes of its artists at the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, where works by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and more reside. Follow Santa Fe Avenue to arrive at the affluent Recoleta neighborhood, famous for its high-end shopping, but also noteworthy for Recoleta Cemetery, a mecca of 18th and 19th century design and the final resting place of well-to-do Argentineans and famous statesmen, politicians, and military heroes — including Eva Perón’s tomb. More than 100 years old, Teatro Colon, in downtown Buenos Aires, houses opera and ballet performances, and concerts by the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra among other classical concerts by musicians from around the world. Tickets are reasonable (about $9), or take a guided tour of the theater (about $10). To seize the moment after you’ve celebrated the past, the Río de la Plata is ideal for sailing, motorboating, and waterskiing.

Where to Stay: Situated in a residential area outside the city center but two blocks from the subway, the Hotel Boutique Racó de Buenos Aires is a boutique hotel that’s high on style and comfort — there’s even an outdoor courtyard where you can enjoy breakfast. (racodebuenosaires.com.ar. from $66)

ORLANDO The “big three” — Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld — are just the beginning

Why in 2014: If you’ve been planning to hit Orlando and its theme parks eventually but haven’t booked your tickets yet, do it in 2014: Hotel rates are down 7 percent. To sweeten the deal, the “big three” theme parks all have brand-new elements, including Universal Studios’ Transformers: The Ride 3D; the ever-expanding Fantasyland at Disney World, including the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, scheduled to open in 2014; and Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, SeaWorld’s biggest attraction to date, which drops temps to 30 degrees — colder than it ever gets in Florida. If eating well appeals to you after your foray into action-adventure, hit up downtown Orlando: The recently opened Rusty Spoon restaurant sources local fare from Florida farmers, like butter-poached wild clams and slow-braised Jamison farm lamb collar.

Where to Stay: Rosen Inn International is the newest addition to Rosen’s roster of family-friendly, value-conscious Orlando hotels. Parents, take note: Free shuttle rides to SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and Wet ‘n’ Wild are provided, and children under 9 eat free in the hotel’s buffet restaurant. (roseninn7600.com. from $61)

    Top 5 travel destinations

I was having problems with DK Eyewitness best sellers, as they don t have Top lists on their site, so checked best sellers in Travel Reference Guidebooks on Amazon. But because Amazon has regional web site it is difficult to see global best sellers list, as the list on amazon.com will be different comparing to amazon.ca or amazon.co.uk . So I think because I was checking  amazon.com is the reason why there is no USA on the list.

    Travel Tips

A little research and planning your travel and leisure can go a long way to insure you’ll have a safer, more economical and enjoyable trip. A little preparation will also help to keep your property safe while you’re traveling. But, who can remember all the little details when you’re rushing to get away? We can help find the resources needed for planning and remind you of all those little details so you can relax and enjoy your travels

  • Do some research, learn as much as you can about your destination.
  • Check to see what type of weather the area has so you can plan accordingly.
  • Check to see what type of paperwork and documentation you will need to travel.
  • Find out what type of diseases are common to the area you’ll be visiting and take actions to prevent your exposure to those diseases.
  • Check your own medical coverage to see what type of coverage you’ll have when away from home. Consider purchasing trip insurance.
  • If you plan on driving, get your car ready and investigate the local road conditions, laws and other driving requirements.
  • Do some research about the costs of local items so you can set your budget. Don’t forget to budget for taxes and tipping. Many governments charge high taxes for travel related services.
  • Check the dates of local major holidays or festivals, since services may be limited on those dates.

    Plan your trip

  • Start looking for special deals and other discounts for which you may qualify.
  • Do some research on the area you’ll be visiting and on the way you’ll be getting there. This is especially important to start your research early if you are planning foreign travel.
  • Check the valid dates on your passport if you are planning on leaving the country.
  • Take care of medical and dental checkups and vaccinations if necessary.
  • After consulting your physician, consider starting an exercise program to prepare your body for the extra exertion you’ll experience while traveling.
  • Make reservations.

    Three weeks ahead:

  • Watch the weather, so you’ll know what to expect and can pack accordingly.
  • Check with your credit card company for available spending amount; ask your bank for an increase if needed. Don’t forget about the deposits that will be charged and leave some room on the card for emergencies.
  • Check the valid dates on your credit card to make sure they will remain valid while you’re traveling.
  • Notify the Credit Card Company that you’ll be traveling, so they will expect charges from your destination.
  • Check your ATM and debit card for both daily and total limits.
  • Remember your PIN numbers or get new ones issued for all your credit, debit, ATM and phone cards.
  • Purchase automatic light timers to switch on and off in the evening.
  • Check your driver’s license to make sure it will remain valid while you’re traveling.
  • Check cameras, purchase new batteries if necessary, and film.
  • Make an arrangement with a neighbor, friend or relative to check your home periodically.
  • If a friend or neighbor cannot collect your mail, make arrangements for it to be held at the Post Office.
  • Arrange for lawn care or snow removal. Ignoring these areas will make your house stand out in the neighborhood and announce to everyone that you are gone.
  • Arrange for someone to start your car during very cold or very hot weather.
  • Arrange boarding for your pets.
  • Start breaking in the shoes you’ll be taking with you on your trip.
  • Add some yogurt to your diet to strengthen your digestive system. This is especially important if your plans include travel to foreign countries where you will be exposed to elements that are hostile to your digestive system.

Cheapest Destinations for Summer Vacation Flights

Maybe this is your year for Europe or Fiji or an African safari. If so, have fun, and here s how to find the cheapest flights to these far-flung destinations. But if you re on a budget and planning to stay in the U.S. we ve got you covered there, too.

Listen as Rick Seaney tells us what s hot, what s not:

    Finding Cheap Destinations

We ve got a lot of ideas for cheap summertime destinations, but prices will vary depending on where you re flying from. First suggestion: check out What to Pay for Summer Vacation Flights . Then, see our ideas for cheap destinations below. Click on the city name to find the cheapest flights.

    Cheap Cities: Western U.S.

Los Angeles Always a relative bargain and significantly cheaper than San Francisco (though there are usually great deals between the two cities).

Phoenix If you don t mind sizzling temperatures, airfare to this city can be a real bargain. Tip: After a round of golf on a hot course, treat yourself to a refreshing spa session.

Seattle Air travel expert Rick Seaney says this vibrant Northwest city has the cheapest fares he s seen in three or four years.

    Cheap Cities: Central U.S.

Austin . San Antonio More airlines are focusing on these fun Texas cities which means cheaper airfares for you.

New Orleans  It will be humid, but it will also be entertaining and very often a nice, cheap getaway.

    Cheap Cities: Eastern U.S.

Boston Increased competition to this historic city makes it a good deal year-round and summer is no exception.

Miami and Ft. Lauderdale These airports are just 26 miles apart and vie with one another to offer the cheapest prices. Note: June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season which gives some travelers pause, but can mean even cheaper airfares.

New York Airfare whiz Rick Seaney says prices to the Big Apple are improving and look for weekend hotel deals there, too.

Washington, D.C. Dulles, Reagan and nearby Baltimore airports create an enviable competitive environment that ensure passengers usually win.

    Cheap Route: Cross-Country

Look for better deals this year on flights between Los Angeles and New York. Keep your eyes open for the rare $99 one-way deal, but such unusual promotions are more likely in late summer if not the fall.

How to Find the Cheapest Flights

Here are three sure-fire ways to find the cheapest flights every time you shop.

Compare prices: If you head to a single airline s website, you could miss out on some amazing deals. Compare prices so you don t miss out on any cheap flights.

Shop Tuesdays: For the past several years, the best day to shop for airfare has been Tuesday at about 3 p.m. eastern time. That is still the case.

Fly less popular days: The cheapest days to fly are typically Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Even if you can t work out a departure and a return on those days, flying one of them will still save you money.

    Also try the following:

Connecting flights: By dispensing with the convenience of a non-stop flight, you could save anywhere from 20% to 60% on airfare.

Using a carry-on bag: Fees for checked bags usually add up to $50 round-trip. Only JetBlue and Southwest offer free checked bags. Note: Spirit charges for all bags, and Frontier will soon institute a carry-on fee for some customers.

The cheapest short-haul flight destination in 2014 was Malmo, Sweden. followed by other hot destinations in our favourite neighbouring countries including Karlsruhe in Germany at number 2, Tours and Poitiers, France (positions 3 and 5), and Eindhoven in the Netherlands occupying spot number 4.

On the other hand, topping the charts for cheapest mid-haul destination was exotic Rabat in Morocco. Also proving to be popular was Fez and Marrakech coming in at positions 2 and 5 respectively, whilst destinations Dalaman and Bodrum in Turkey just made it into the top 5 at positions number 3 and 4.

Finally, Fort Lauderdale in the United States turned out to be the cheapest destination for long-haul flights. Surprised? Toronto, Canada, came in at number 2, and Cancun in Mexico occupies position number 3, whilst Orlando and Daytona Beach in the US completed the top 5.

Last but by no means least, our digging amongst all that flight data revealed the top destination overall to be none other than exotic Istanbul. which annually receives thousands of both domestic flights and visits from across the world.

Travelzoo Picks Best Travel Deal Destinations for 2015

    Nov 03, 2014 | Updated Jan 03, 2015

Travelzoo A global Internet media company and trusted publisher of travel, entertainment and local deals

Travelzoo Deal Experts have combed the world over looking for destinations where U.S. travelers will get the biggest bang for their buck in 2015. We present the Wow Deal Destinations for 2015 . Brazil, Puerto Rico, Texas Hill Country, Cruising Asia and Dubai — based on travel trends, national events and our “deal expert” hunch.

Where will you vacation in 2015?

Travelzoo Picks 2015 Travel Deal Destinations

    1. Brazil. Visit this South America hot spot during its “gap year” — between 2014’s FIFA World Cup and the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics. More than 111,000 soccer-loving Americans visited Brazil this past summer. To accommodate the influx of sporting tourism, the country plans to open more than 400 new hotels by 2016. The airlines aren’t far behind either, with carriers such as American Airlines adding new nonstop routes to its schedule. Wholesalers are quickly upping inventory as well with vacation deals saving up to $1000.

    2. Puerto Rico. No U.S. passport required: enough said, right? Also, it’s never been easier to get to Puerto Rico as major airlines (JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines) launched new and/or increased services this past year. Combine that with the fact this Caribbean island is looking to add more than 5,000 hotel rooms by 2017, and you’ve set yourself up to grab deals that are up to 50% off.

    3. Texas Hill Country. Everything’s bigger in Texas, including the deals. From San Antonio to Austin and the surrounding Hill Country, we found hotel deals aplenty, from $129 per night at 4-star resorts. With nearly a half-dozen new hotels opening in 2015, there’s plenty of places for every budget from boutique properties to sprawling, luxury resorts. Texas Hill Country is easy to navigate, just a three- to four-hour drive for Dallas and Houston residents. Flights are a breeze with two airports, Austin and San Antonio, serviced by low-cost carriers Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Allegiant Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

    4. Cruising Asia. Cruise lines are expanding their fleets in Asia with new ship introductions and itinerary plans. Royal Caribbean International plans to move their newest ship, Quantum of the Seas, to the Shanghai port; this large ocean liner allows for 4,190 more passengers to experience Asia by sea. Oceania Cruises alone has announced 12 new destinations for the upcoming 2015-’16 schedule focusing on longer, destination-intensive sailings to the likes of Jeju, South Korea, and Boracay Island, Philippines. As the itineraries multiply, so do the deals. Choose from large ocean liners or small, luxury ships with roundtrip air included.

    5. Duba i: With 71 million annual passengers stepping foot in Dubai’s two airports, the city has positioned itself as a major player in global tourism. Travelers who visit now can take advantage of a building boom and early-bird deals ahead of the World Expo in 2020. A destination unto itself, Dubai is also a simple addition to international travel plans with direct flights from major cities including London and Bangkok. To ease the potential complexities of booking a trip we’ve secured vacation packages starting at $1999.

    — Blaire Constantinou is a producer at Travelzoo based in Los Angeles. Travelzoo has 250 deal experts from around the world who rigorously research, evaluate and test thousands of deals to find those with true value.

5 sweet international destinations where strong dollars mean cheaper vacations

A swanky room overlooking a sunny piazza in Rome costs a lot less this year. So does sipping espresso, nibbling on croissants, and dinning on steak frites in Parisian cafes.

Favorable currency exchange rates are making overseas travel far more affordable for Americans. Depending on the country, hotels, restaurants and shopping may be anywhere from 15% to 50% cheaper now than this time last year.

You can thank sputtering overseas economies for the more tourist-friendly prices. In the ever-changing currency markets, the U.S. dollar is once again in demand.

Of course, it s welcome news for anyone who is planning an overseas trip. Some people who ve been unable to afford international travel may finally be able take that dream vacation.

It definitely has an impact, and yes, it does encourage people who are on the fence, said Andi McClure-Mysza, co-president of Montrose Travel, a travel agency in Montrose, Calif. near Los Angeles, that books more than $280 million in travel annually.

Customers routinely bring up exchange rates in planning their trips and deciding where to go, she said. Getting a $5,000 vacation for $4,000, when taking into account potential savings, can be a powerful lure. Currency rates don t affect airline ticket prices, which happen to be relatively high at the moment. But they can mean savings on what visitors spend their money on after arriving.

Keep in mind that package tours don t necessarily take fluctuations in currencies into account. It depends on the operator and the contracts it cuts with hotel, restaurants and ground transportation suppliers.

Through the first 10 months of 2014, U.S. citizens made 57 million international trips, or 9.6% more than during the same period a year earlier. A buzzing U.S. economy and those exchange rates means more growth is likely in 2015.

Here are a few destinations where exchange rates will make your dollars stretch a lot further.

5 Cheap International Holiday Destinations – Frugal Travel #cheap #t?ckets

    5 Cheap International Holiday Destinations

We all love going on holiday, but spending thousands of dollars on a trip to a popular international destination may not always be achievable. It is possible, however, to have a great international holiday which fits within your budget if you choose your destination carefully. Read on to find out about some of the best budget destinations worldwide.

    Beijing, China

Last week, I headed to Beijing. I got myself a really decently priced flight for just over $300 from London with Aeroflot, packed my bags and headed off. Accommodation in the capital is reasonably priced, but its in your day-to-day activities that you’ll see the most savings. On a budget of $80 per day for 2 people, we managed to see all the sites, dine out in exclusive restaurants and have enough left over for shopping. A 15 minute taxi ride in Beijing costs you about $2.5 – unheard of in the west – and a meal for 2 in a western chain about $15. A 3 course dinner in a fancy Persian restaurant in vibrant Sanlitun came to just $30, and a Mojito in cool Hou Hai bar area is $3. Entrance into many attractions is either free (for example the great Military Museum) or very cheap – the most expensive we found was the CCTV tower which came to about $10 each. With these sorts of cheap living costs you’ll have plenty of money to head to the famous Silk Street market to pick up all sorts of bargains on clothes and fabrics.

    Eastern Europe

It’s not as cheap as it once was, but it’s still possible to do Eastern Europe on a budget. While some destinations like Krakow and Prague are begining to catch on that there is money to be made from tourists – I paid $12 for coffee and a croissant in the Market Square in Krakow –  there are gems to be found even further east. Sarajevo and Belgrade are two excellent locations with low prices for accommodation and dining out and a raw history ready to be explored. The cheap flights to Eastern Europe offered by many budget carriers have been a blessing, so head further east to Bosnia, Serbia, Romania and the Ukraine to get the best of the bargains before they go the way of Poland, Czech Republic and the Baltics by raising their prices to reflect the growing tourist industry.

    Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Tunisia

If you’re not fussed on accommodation, location, dates and culture then you can get some of the cheapest and best deals online. With a little flexibility, I’ve managed a week in the Algarve for a stunning $120, and 5 days north of Barcelona for $160. I’ve taken a deal to Agadir in Morocco for $250, ditched the hotel after a few days and headed on the bus to Marrakech for half the cost of a normal flight. This idea isn’t for everyone, as these deals are based on limited flight choices, out of the way resorts and normally 2 or 3* accommodation. But if you’re looking at a week in the sun and live near a major airport this is a great way to get a last minute deal. Try icelolly.com for the best cheap deals, and remember not to expect too much accommodation wise, and be prepared to be slightly out of the way from the main tourist attractions.

    Thailand

A long term favourite, Thailand offers great savings in some of the cheaper resorts. Local transport costs next to nothing, food is delicious and cheap, and the services provided are second to none. Get yourself a massage for $5, and dine out on local specialities for under $10. A major benefit is the bed and breakfasts or guest houses in the country where you can still find rooms for as little as $10 for a decent room. Local sightseeing can be pricey in some of the tourist areas, but off the track you’ll find fantastic savings, souvenirs and friendly locals.

Top 5 destinations for incentive travel in 2015

    by AYMTM

Planning an incentive trip? Here are our top 5 destinations  for 2015.

Based on enquiries we have received, the places we have visited recently and where we are taking clients to in the coming months, we have compiled our top 5 en vogue destinations for incentive travel in 2015, including our tips for where to stay, where to eat and what to do while you are there.

There are trends in just about everything, from baby names to what people are searching for on the internet this week. Incentive travel  is no different. These trends come from the most visited incentive destinations, new destinations emerging, or a previously popular destination becoming a bit of a has-been!

    1. Cape Town

Cape Town consistently rates as one of the perennial favourites for savvy incentive buyers. It has the favourable rand, new hotels, fantastic restaurants and all the classic ingredients, such as an epic coastline and awesome scenery, to make it our top selling long haul destination. Night flights and minimal time change make it perfect for avoiding jet lag. British Airways offer daily non-stop flights from London Heathrow.

    Stay: One Only Resorts

For luxury and style in Cape Town, our favourite hotel is the One Only Resort. Two restaurants, run by acclaimed chefs -Michelin-starred chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa and local celebrity chef Reuben Riffel are connected by a bar and lounge, all with incredible views of Table Mountain.

The hotel is central to just about everything, making it easy to experience the wildlife safaris and wine country excursions that Cape Town has to offer, along with Robben Island and so much more. After all those excursions, you’ll probably want a bit of calm, so we recommend you try the hotel spa, situated on its very own private island and offering every treatment you could possible want, and a few you may not have thought of!

    Eat: The Test Kitchen

For a top dining experience (the best in South Africa, let alone Cape Town!) The Test Kitchen is definitely the place to go. Chef and owner, Luke Dale-Roberts, has been called ‘a truly fantastic chef’ by Heston Blumenthal, which we think is quite a good recommendation!

British chef Luke trained in Europe and has launched restaurants all around Asia. These influences are very apparent on his delectable menu, and the high quality wine list complements perfectly!

If your last supper was eaten at The Test Kitchen, you’d die happy!

    Do: Beach BBQ

There are so many wonderful things to do in Cape Town, but one party we took to Cape Town was very happy with the beach BBQ we organised near the spectacular Cape Point, where surprise kayaks turned up to transport guests to speedboats for a riveting speed ride around the ‘tip of Africa’.

Combine Cape Town with a safari!

The 5 cheapest travel destinations right now #travel #to #italy

The 5 cheapest travel destinations right now

Get revenge on the global recession by taking these countries for less than they’re worth.

Signs of global economic recovery are glimmering, but are they enough to justify taking a major vacation?

Well, it depends on where you live. Not everyone is recovering, making now the ideal time for those who are to visit some traditionally expensive or even off-limits countries.

Staying atop current trends in the travel industry, combined with knowing its jargon, can put a once-elusive holiday within reach.

For instance, look for words like “cost structure” (i.e. insultingly cheap local labor) during research, as well as “distressed inventory” (i.e. time’s running out on these flights and hotel rooms).

For the value-hunting traveler, we’ve assembled some travel ideas with the help of professionals and economists who know what’s trending.

While there may be other, more affordable destinations overall, these five are the best values in travel right now.

    Mexico

Besides the prices, there’s also the advantage of more beach space per vacationer.

Advance bookings to Mexico for the Legacy Travel  agency are their strongest in 15 years, according to its Vice President, Catherine Banks.

“Cost structure is different than most other places,” says Banks, meaning Mexico is inherently cheap.

But combine that with the negative publicity of widespread drug violence (hundreds of kilometers from its most popular tourist spots) and a weak European economy that’s starving Mexico of its customary visitor base, and this country’s ready to make a deal.

According to Banks, “In Cancun and Riviera Maya, there are more five-star resorts than the Caribbean and Hawaii combined, and the price isn’t close to the same.”

    And now they’re sitting empty.

Currency conditions: The peso’s been weaker and inflation low in recent months, according to Forex.com Senior Currency Strategist Eric Viloria. So your money should stretch out quite a bit.

    Thailand

There are enough statues in Bangkok for everyone, as long as photographers take turns.

Eager to regain tourism lost to the political unrest and flooding of 2011, Thailand is closing itself out at rock-bottom prices.

“Summer shoulder season (the narrow window between the low and high seasons) seems to be slower than usual,” says  Tony Cardoza, President of  Cardoza-Bungey Travel.

” As a result, we see very good four- and five-star hotels and resorts offering deals.”

That means even cheaper accommodations at the lower ends.

Currency conditions: The Australian dollar goes over 100 percent further in Thailand than at home, according to The Economist’s Big Mac index , and the euro and U.S. dollar rate almost as favorably.

    Myanmar (Burma)

Politically unrestful but restful for the traveler.

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar could have picked a more profitable time in world economic history to open itself to outsiders, but its delayed departure from despotism is the traveler’s gain.

“Burma today is similar to Southeast Asia of 20 years ago,” says Steven Larkin, President of Intrepid Travel. North America.

But the plan going forward may be to go a higher-end route in the development of tourism than neighboring Thailand, so the time is now for a cheap, ethical trip, before even the first Starbucks moves in.

This is the cheapest Myanmar will ever be.

Currency conditions: Burma restructured its currency in early April, turning a fixed rate of 6.4 kyat per U.S. dollar to a floating rate of over 800 kyat per U.S. dollar. This should make exchange rates more reliable, but make sure to bring lots of paper money: Myanmar is still largely cash-only.

    Egypt

Sharm El Sheikh is as relaxing as it ever was. And now it will also be less stressful for your wallet.

Here’s that distressed inventory we talked about. Tasteless as it may sound, the Arab Spring may have enabled your spring break, driving down demand and prices right along with it.

“The overall sentiment is that resort areas like Sharm El Sheik are very safe,” says a spokesperson for Hotwire.com. “but most vacationers appear to prefer traveling to Turkey and other destinations that haven’t seen as much civil unrest.”

That preference has made Egypt a buyer’s market. The drop in demand has another benefit: smaller crowds.

“Clients going now have been able to get pictures of themselves in front of the pyramids with no other tourists blocking the view,” says Cardoza.

Your window may be closing, though; presidential elections are looming.

Currency conditions: The Egyptian pound is sinking like a stone in recent futures trading, foreshadowing a devaluation of up to 50 percent or more. While that benefits foreign currency holders, it can also lead to inflation, making travel plans to Egypt even more urgent.

    Greece

Honestly though — how could a place like this ever be less in demand?

All of the turmoil in Greece has weakened tourist demand and, in turn, prices — for the present — but it’s uncertainty about the future that’s really driving down travel costs.

Right now, many travelers are betting that already low rates will drop further should Greece fall out of the euro, so they’re delaying plans to visit there. This self-perpetuating drop in demand will depress prices even more in the meantime.

As for the drawbacks, Hotwire’s spokesperson says flying through Athens is a bit risky in terms of service reliability. However, there has been an increase in air service directly to many of the larger island destinations, which are free of the unrest and demonstrations of the mainland, according to John Clifford of InternationalTravelManagement.com . Just make sure you hurry, while they still have roads and stuff.

Currency conditions: The euro fell to a 16-month low against the US dollar earlier this year, a trend that Viloria sees continuing as debt concerns mount.

    Bonus destination: Spain

It’s win-win: Spain gets your travel dollars and you get a great value holiday.

Top 10 Cheap International Travel Destinations in the World

    By Hope Nardini

I love to travel, but as a college student, jet-setting doesn t always fit my bank account. Weekend getaways. staycations. and last-minute discounts help me make the most of my travel budget, but what about budget travel to more exotic destinations?

    2. Jamaica

Jamaica has plenty of luxury options, but thanks to the island s new international airport, deals on 3,000 new hotel rooms, and clean beaches, Budget Travel has rated Jamaica one of the top budget travel destinations for 2011 .

    9. Croatia

AskMen named Croatia one of its Top Ten Cheap Vacations. and they say hostels go for about $10 per night.

    10. Argentina

I took part in a college study abroad program in Buenos Aires. so Argentina holds a special place in my heart.

    8 Cheap July 4 destinations #patagonia #travel

    Independence Day fireworks

July 4 is around the corner! Maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “I’m getting pretty tired of the same, old backyard barbecue routine.” Looking for a place where can you escape to that isn’t terribly overpriced? We’ve got you covered. Here are some great firework destinations for your July 4 celebrations that are fun and easy on your wallet.

    1. Imperial Beach, San Diego

    Image:  paule858 /iStock/Getty Images Plus

Ah, who doesn’t love the beach during summer? It seriously doesn’t get much better then being steps away from the sand, looking off the patio into a picture perfect view of the Pacific Ocean. This July 4, head to San Diego’s Imperial Beach where you can reserve a beachfront rental for $900 per week — perfect for a family of four or two couples. Not only can you have fun at the beach, but with Coronado just 10 minutes away, you can also enjoy the awe-inspiring fireworks display over Glorietta Bay.

    2. Lake Powell

The always-gorgeous Lake Powell is a great spot to spend July 4, and a favorite to many locals and tourists alike. With the beautiful scenery and plenty of things to do, you will definitely have a relaxing and carefree vacation. If water sports are your thing, Lake Powell is an absolute must go. This lake is one of the best places for you, your family and friends to go boating, wakeboarding and tubing. Within close proximity to Phoenix and Vegas, this is a perfect budget-friendly getaway for people who love the outdoors.

    3. Las Vegas

Vegas — really? Most definitely! If you want to head to Sin City for the weekend to test your luck, this is your chance to get a sweet deal. Vegas hotels run super affordable specials on July 4 because of the hot temperatures. But who cares about hot weather when you can lounge poolside with a margarita, or bet your luck in an air-conditioned casino. If you want to see some shows and cut loose, Vegas is your place, baby!

    4. Lake Tahoe

For a lively lake escape, head to Lake Tahoe for July 4 and celebrate our nation’s independence at “Lights on the Lake,” also known as the largest pyrotechnics show in the West. Over the weekend, Lake Tahoe has unrivaled firework displays on both sides of the lake. However, all the special events will be taking place on the South side. For a cheap place to stay, camp out at the Meeks Bay Resort. You’ll get a great Independence Day vacation with beautiful surroundings and an out of this world fireworks show.

    5. Monument Valley

For a Southwest adventure, travel to Monument Valley. This gorgeous and breathtaking park straddles the Arizona/Utah border and is perfect for a hiking getaway. While there, you can revel in the impressive 400- to 1,000-foot sandstone towers and impressive natural formations. If you need a break from the concrete jungle, head to Monument Valley for some peace and quiet. With several camping options, this getaway is budget-friendly and ideal for getting back to nature.

    6. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

If you want a beach getaway on the East coast, Myrtle Beach is just the place! There will be plenty of beach celebrations over the July 4 weekend, giving you ample opportunities to kick back and enjoy the water, the weather and the food.

    7. Black Hills, South Dakota

The Black Hills of South Dakota is a fun, family-friendly place to camp this July 4. Not only can you visit the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, you can also enjoy the stunning national park as well. The Palmer Gulch Resort , with its swimming pools, miniature golf and horse rides, is the place to camp if you want to keep your kids busy all day. If you’re searching for the ultimate economical camping trip for the family with sights and activities for everyone, then South Dakota is for you.

    8. West Palm Beach, Florida

West Palm Beach is another primo vacation spot for those looking to head to the beach, complete with many affordable hotels. There will also be plenty of July 4 activities, including the Mega Bash II with “America’s Ultimate Journey Tribute Band.” In addition to the festivities, you can lounge on the beach and soak up rays beside the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re looking for cheap relaxation and fun, you better start planning your July 4 vacation now.

Lonely Planet’s best value travel destinations for 2014

by Tom Hall Oct 28 2013

When times are tight we suggest you travel more, not less – but pick carefully. This is where your wallet will smile at the memories for years to come.

    Greek Islands

    Pin this image

Greece has had a tough few years, with harsh austerity measures, soaring unemployment and demonstrations hitting the world’s headlines. For a place that thrives on tourists – whether the kind that parties on sunburnt islands or hoovers up ancient culture – this is bad news. But Greece still does what it’s done brilliantly for generations. What’s missing are visitor numbers from previous years, and prices have come down in an attempt to woo them back. Combined with the chance to explore Greece’s more popular sights with fewer visitors, this means that in 2014 it offers remarkable value.

    Italy’s heel

If you’ve ever rubbed shoulders with billionaires on the Amalfi Coast or spent the weekend in Venice. you’ll know that Italy can drain travel budgets. This year, look south. Italy’s heel has arguably the best beaches in the country, hilltop towns and ancient sights. But what makes Puglia. Basilicata and Calabria such good value is not just the financial side of being in this part of the country. It’s the fabulous food – cucina povera (poor man’s food), simple, tasty and cheap – and the relaxed pace of life even in peak season, coupled with good-value accommodation for all budgets.

    Nicaragua

Costa Rica is a delight, but it’s neither a secret nor really cheap. Nicaragua. though in the latter category, is fast making its name for more than simply saving a few dollars on the road. The country is an A-grade Central American attraction in itself, from brooding Volcán Concepción to the dreamlike experience of floating down the Río San Juan. True budget travellers trying to make it on US$20 a day (still possible here) may think twice about visiting the Corn Islands due to the cost of flying from the mainland, but Nicaragua does offer some of the cheapest beach living (and diving) in the Caribbean.

    Bulgaria

Especially in famous cities, costs in Eastern Europe have gone up with the crowds. This is one of the reasons to go to Bulgaria, still so puzzlingly underrated that few but travel geeks can name a city beyond the capital, Sofia – try Plovdiv or Varna. The latter is part of the Black Sea riviera that brings crowds and high prices in the summer. Elsewhere (including Sofia), transport, museums and the ubiquitous private rooms (look for ‘Zimmer frei ’ signs) are quite reasonably priced. The most famous site, Rila Monastery. is free and offers simple rooms for pilgrims.

    Portugal

Each year the British Post Office surveys the prices in European holiday resorts. The most recent edition names Albufeira in the Algarve as the cheapest option for a summer family holiday. The Algarve in high summer may not be to everyone’s taste, but it shows that Portugal is great for the budget-conscious. There are excellent deals elsewhere too. Lisbon has wonderful coffee and sweet treats for a few euros, and you can ride cheap trams around to your heart’s content. Portugal is also, for Europeans, a superb place to surf without having to fork out the airfare to the sport’s traditional heartlands.

    Fiji

A South Pacific island destination on a value travel list? Yes, Fiji may just be the most affordable slice of paradise. The Yasawas and the Mamanucas are home to the unusual phenomenon of island resorts aimed at backpackers. While it’s not as cheap as Southeast Asia, the value here is in bringing the South Pacific within reach of mid-range travellers. Combine some island-hopping by daily catamaran with public buses around Viti Levu. Fiji’s ‘mainland’, and get almost as much Polynesia as possible for not all of your money.

    Mexico

    Pin this image

Ignore the headlines about budget-busting resorts and savour the value of a visit to Mexico. Grab a good-value flight and try to avoid periods such as US school holidays. Travellers who explore off the established trail will find Mexico hugely rewarding. North of Puerto Vallarta. laid-back beach towns such as Chacala offer guesthouse rooms for US$40, and the relaxed ambience is its own reward. Good value can be had even in the tourist heartland of the Yucatán Peninsula. Cheap bus trips to Mérida and Tulum provide all the Mayan wonders you can muster at a fraction of the cost of Cancún-based tours. Look for cabañas. huts with a palm-thatched roof, most often found at beach destinations.

    Karnataka, India

India still has lots to offer the budget traveller, though if you’ve been to Goa in high season you might doubt this. Over the European winter bargains can feel in short supply. While Goa devotees manage by travelling off-season or with package deals, it’s worth considering other options. Neighbouring Karnataka ’s coast has serene beaches, fishing harbours and peaceful resorts, plus inland temple towns such as Hampi. one of South India’s most laid-back traveller hangouts. Best of all, lodgings are cheap and most temples and ruins are free. More upmarket places to stay are opening all the time, but you’ll find some rewarding budget travel here.

    Palawan, the Philippines

Jungle rivers, limestone cliffs and awesome beaches – Palawan ’s no secret, but it certainly rewards those who visit. This mix, combined with stand-out attractions such as Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the Bacuit Archipelago (all available at a competitive price), makes it a great-value pick for old Asia hands and novices alike. A journey on from Palawan leads to the Calamian Islands where apparently Alex Garland saw the strip of sand that inspired The Beach. Watch out for the May to October monsoon: it brings heavy rain, usually in the afternoon.

    Ethiopia

    Pin this image

While you can’t get everywhere in Ethiopia on US$30 a day, you can see a huge amount of its highlights by taking great-value and time-saving flights along the country’s Historic Route. This astonishing journey includes the Lake Tana monasteries and the Blue Nile Falls, the rock-hewn wonders of Lalibela and much more. True, the budget goes out the window if you hire a vehicle and driver or join an organised tour – which you need in order to get the most out of the country’s wild west – but you can always save that for another visit. This is one slice of Africa that rewards the curious as well as the deep-pocketed. Budget hotels abound, but the best are newer properties – use this filter to find a bargain.

Best Destinations in Utah to Visit #galapagos #travel

    National Parks

The Colorado Plateau is the big, beautiful orangey blotch centered at Four Corners, millions of years and layers of stone laced with canyon-cutting rivers and unlikely art rock. The feds found five different spots in Utah’s quadrant weird and wild enough to designate and protect. If you’ve only got a week, these should top your list of places to see in Utah.

    National Monuments & Landmarks

These are like National Parks Express. Not quite as extensive, but still briefly intensive. And they’re packed tightly enough between national parks and lots of other Utah attractions that it’s not an either/or situation.

    State Parks

Sand dunes, petrified forests, pioneer heritage and Native American sites: half a hundred dots on the map with dozens of kinds of low-traffic attractions. Disregard the occasional side-eye from a local. Once you see the sights, you’ll forgive them for not wanting to share.

    Natural Areas

Some things aren’t so easily classified. These Utah points of interest are generally outdoors, typically remote and unanimously awesome. If your map only shows the big, obvious Utah attractions, get a new map, because mind-blowing can’t be categorized.

    Cities & Towns

Let’s be honest: You don’t book a trip to Utah to see what a big city feels like. But first of all, we do small-town right, with the proverbial Mom Pop cooking, cleaning and making sure you’re comfortable. Then there are the resort towns, with all the outfitters and outposts you need to go (into the) wild. And lastly, the biggish cities you do find in Utah punch way above their weight class — the Wasatch Front has things to do, see and eat on par with the world’s much larger, much less convenient metropolises.

    Ski Resorts

These Utah destinations show you a corner of the state without skimping on the luxury — the kind of all-inclusive experiences that make leaving the campus optional.

Predictions for the Best Travel Deal Destinations for 2014

    Nov 07, 2013 | Updated Jan 23, 2014

Travelzoo A global Internet media company and trusted publisher of travel, entertainment and local deals

We’ve just announced the five worldwide destinations where it believes North American travelers will get the best travel deals in 2014. Our prediction is based on extensive evaluation by Travelzoo Deal Experts of travel and tourism trends, currency fluctuations and national events that might impact the price of travel. Travelzoo’s 2014 Wow Deal Destinations are Ecuador, Europe’s rivers, India, Jersey Shore, and Palm Springs. We expect that travelers will be able to save up to 50 percent on a vacation in these Wow Deal Destinations next year, compared to 2013 rates.

Ecuador The Ecuadorian government is expected to boost its tourism budget by 73 percent in 2014. Moreover, we expect the country will work hard to reclaim some of the South American mindshare as travelers focus on neighboring Brazil and World Cup 2014. This will create a deal-driven environment for travelers. In addition, recent airfare sales to Quito and Guayaquil have hovered around $399 roundtrip, which is less than the cost of some U.S. domestic flights.

Ecuador is a land of diverse experiences. In just one trip, you can see the Pacific Coast, the Andes, the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. Plus, with some great travel deals on the horizon, it is the perfect time to see the country before it becomes over-commercialized.

Europe’s Rivers Cruise lines are expanding their river fleets in Europe at a record-breaking pace. At least 20 vessels are scheduled to debut in 2014, including those from Viking River Cruises, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, Tauck River Cruises and AmaWaterways. With more cabins to fill, this can mean only one thing: great deals for travelers.

The itineraries of river cruises are extremely varied and available all year round. Think Christmas markets, the tulips of Northern Netherlands, or a visit to historical cities like Arles, Nuremberg, Basel and Belgrade. The cruises are typically all-inclusive and often come with free perks like guided port city tours. Travelzoo deals have helped travelers save more than $1,500 on European river cruises.

India The rupee has plummeted in value by more than 20 percent within the past year versus the U.S. Dollar. This makes it one of the cheapest countries in the world for Americans to explore and enjoy. In addition, India is experiencing a hotel boom as major hotel chains, such as Accor, Carlson Rezidor, Hilton, Hyatt and the InterContinental Hotels Group, prepare to open more than 50 hotels combined. This increased competition will likely lead to reduced room rates in 2014.

Travelzoo has been publishing more and more organized tour deals for India as tour operators look to partner with hotels and pass on savings to the consumer. In many instances, the cost of these tours are the same as what a traveler would pay for airfare alone — making them a great deal for first-time travelers to the country.

The Jersey Shore Count on aggressive travel deals as the state looks to rebuild its tourism business after Superstorm Sandy (October 2012).

Governor Chris Christie stated that the region was up and running and ready for visitors this past summer, but tourism business was slow to return. As businesses continue to recover, Travelzoo expects to see even more deals as the Jersey Shore looks to win back travelers in coming months. Recently Travelzoo has published Jersey Shore hotel deals with up to 45 percent savings.

Palm Springs A bevy of new hotel openings and multi-million dollar renovations are creating increased competition and better Palm Springs hotel deals for travelers. Plus 10 airline carriers including Virgin America, Alaska Airlines, US Airways, American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines all fly to Palm Springs International Airport, which means there are opportunities to score great airfare deals as well.

Palm Springs is reinventing itself from an old-school Frank Sinatra destination, to a hip and trendy hot spot for the young at heart. Expect to find pool parties and restaurants recognized by the Wine Spectator’s 2013 Restaurant Wine List Awards, as well as a music scene driven by Coachella.

Six insanely cheap destinations for summer 2015

This summer, why not go where the prices are unusually cheap and the dollar is unexpectedly strong? By weighing hotel rates and airfare prices alongside industry trends and local currencies, we’ve come up with six suggestions for fabulous and unquestionably budget-friendly vacations. The following destinations offer an appealing combination of low-season pricing, plenty of bargains, and awesome attractions for summer 2015.

    Istanbul

Since the biggest financial piece of your trip to Europe will likely be your flight, you’ll save a ton by traveling to a destination with relatively lower ticket costs for those departing from the U.S. According to data from Hopper, Istanbul is one of the cheapest European cities to fly to this summer. One-way tickets from New York cost about $605. And our parent company TripAdvisor named Istanbul one of the 10 cheapest Europe flights to grab this summer. with an average round-trip ticket price of $1,197.

The steady expansion of Turkish Airlines is partly why flights to Istanbul are so affordable right now. Turkish operates direct flights to Istanbul from 12 destinations in the Americas. This year so far, the airline has added new routes from San Francisco and Miami.

    New York

We know, we know: New York seems out of place on this list of ultra-affordable destinations. But hear us out. You can, in fact, plan a New York vacation this summer for quite cheap — without having to bunk in a hostel or go dumpster diving. Just in time for summer, New York’s tourism board is running a “Free in NYC” campaign in an attempt to lure budget travelers to the city. Check out the guide to learn about dozens of free activities and events around the city, from food festivals to outdoor yoga to a swing dance flash mob.

    2. Jamaica

Jamaica has plenty of luxury options, but thanks to the island s new international airport, deals on 3,000 new hotel rooms, and clean beaches, Budget Travel has rated Jamaica one of the top budget travel destinations for 2011 .

    9. Croatia

AskMen named Croatia one of its Top Ten Cheap Vacations. and they say hostels go for about $10 per night.

    10. Argentina

I took part in a college study abroad program in Buenos Aires. so Argentina holds a special place in my heart.
