When I worked at Sun Travel, I was a full-time student in college. This company was willing to work with me to adjust my hours as needed.

Typically, I worked within the ticketing department or at the front desk. I would assist within both of those areas as needed. Because of this particular job, I was able to learn and develop skills that I might not have otherwise had. I was able to learn and grow.

Management was good and I was able to address any issues that I had with them. They were willing to help me find a way to be successful when I encountered a problem.

My co-workers were very submitted to what they were doing. Agents were ready to fight for their clients and make sure they got the best service. Quality Assurance and ticketing did everything they could to make sure that clients got tickets as quickly as possible. It was like a big family that had their roles, but still looked after one another.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and grow. I am really fortunate that I had the chance to work with such great people in a great environment. It was a time I will never forget.

The first step in any successful job hunt is creating a resume that accurately describes your skills, education, and experience for potential employers. Essentially, your resume serves as a marketing tool that “sells” your value to the reader and helps you land an interview.

Understanding the Objective Statement

An objective is a short statement that clarifies your goals regarding the type of employment desired and how your skills make you a good fit. In most cases, a resume objective is just one or two sentences long. Some professional resume writers refer to an objective statement as a focus statement.

Your resume objective should be included below your name and contact information. It is not necessary to highlight the section with a heading that says “Objective” or “Focus Statement.”

Objective statements are not required to be included on your resume, but can be particularly helpful if you’re a new college graduate seeking your first professional position or you’re changing careers. You should consider using an objective when a summary of your work experience and a skills list doesn t adequately reflect the type of position you re seeking.

If you do not wish to use a resume objective, you can simply use a heading below your name that indicates the type of job you want to apply for. This approach works best when you’re seeking an entry-level position with no experience required or if all of your work experience clearly aligns with a specific career field.

3 Tips for Writing a Winning Objective

When writing your resume objective, keep in mind the following tips:

  1. Be clear about your goals. A resume objective that could apply to anyone or any type of job isn’t helpful. The objective “Hardworking recent graduate seeks opportunity to use education to excel in building the success of the company” is ineffective because it offers no details about why you’re interested in a particular position or what makes you suited to the job
  2. Put the employer’s needs first. It may sound harsh, but a prospective employer doesn’t care how getting the job will help you advance your career. A statement like “I want to be part of the success in an environment of growth and excellence” is a poor choice for your objective because it only tells what you want and doesn’t show what you have to offer an employer.
  3. Highlight your strengths. Since the objective is at the top of your resume, it’s essentially the first thing the reader sees. Use this space to highlight why you are a qualified candidate. Try to incorporate keywords from the position description into your objective.

Examples of Effective Resume Objectives

Although objective statements should always be customized to reflect your own unique skills and career goals, the following examples can be used as a starting point in preparing your resume.

  • Administrative Assistant. Dedicated administrative professional with excellent customer service skills and extensive knowledge of bookkeeping procedures. Interested in opportunities in the travel industry focusing on sales, customer care, and office management.
  • Application Developer. Results-driven application developer seeks opportunity to create innovative application development strategies that increase brand awareness, drive traffic, and monetize digital real estate.
  • Caterer. Professional dietician and caterer with four years in the foodservice industry. Seeking to utilize strong interpersonal skills and culinary knowledge to create a memorable dining experience for clients.
  • Content Coordinator. Strong communicator with two years of experience writing and editing copy for diverse audiences will utilize knowledge to drive audience engagement in the nonprofit space.

Typically, I worked within the ticketing department or at the front desk. I would assist within both of those areas as needed. Because of this particular job, I was able to learn and develop skills that I might not have otherwise had. I was able to learn and grow.

Management was good and I was able to address any issues that I had with them. They were willing to help me find a way to be successful when I encountered a problem.

My co-workers were very submitted to what they were doing. Agents were ready to fight for their clients and make sure they got the best service. Quality Assurance and ticketing did everything they could to make sure that clients got tickets as quickly as possible. It was like a big family that had their roles, but still looked after one another.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and grow. I am really fortunate that I had the chance to work with such great people in a great environment. It was a time I will never forget.

Baton Rouge’s location on a Mississippi River Delta bluff allowed early settlers to establish a settlement safe from flooding. The city of 229,426 people has since become a bustling hub of industrial, petrochemical, technology and political businesses, which boosts the availability of Baton Rouge jobs. Baton Rouge is one of the South’s most culturally diverse cities as well, having been a part of seven different European and North American governments throughout history.

Despite the city’s large size and metropolitan composition, the cost of living index in Baton Rouge is 90.1, well below the national average of 100. Residents save the most on housing (81) and utilities (84), but pay slightly more for healthcare services (101).

Department of Labor – OFCCP – How to File a Complaint

Because of temporary technical difficulties, the online complaint form cannot be electronically submitted. Please complete the form and submit it by mail or fax to the appropriate OFCCP regional office, or deliver it in person to any OFCCP district or field office.

How to File a Complaint

Do you believe that an employer doing business with the Federal Government has discriminated against you in hiring or employment? Do you believe that the reason for the discrimination was based on your race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran? Did you ask about or discuss your pay or that of a co worker and you were fired, demoted, or disciplined because of it? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you can file a complaint with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). An individual, organization, or group can even file a complaint on your behalf, or for anyone who may be the victim of employment discrimination by an employer doing business with the Federal Government.

You must file a complaint alleging discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or based on compensation inquiries, discussions, or disclosures, within 180 days from the date of the alleged discrimination, unless the time for filing is extended for good cause shown. Some examples of what might be good cause include, the existence of some extraordinary circumstance that prohibited you from filing before the deadline such as a significant health issue, military deployment, incarceration, or possibly being unaware of the discrimination. These are only a few of the possible examples of good cause. If your complaint alleges a violation based on disability or status as a protected veteran, it must be filed within 300 days unless the time for filing is extended for good cause shown. Extensions of the filing time require approval by the Director of OFCCP.

You should include a description of the alleged discrimination and any other related information that would help OFCCP investigate your complaint. OFCCP will be revising its complaint form and instructions because of recent regulatory changes. Until that process is completed, please mark the box next to sex to allege discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. If you are alleging discrimination based on discussing pay, please write pay secrecy in the place where the other bases for an OFCCP violation are listed and indicate that pay secrecy is the basis of the complaint clearly in the narrative section of the complaint form. As is always the case, you should describe the actions that you believe resulted in the discrimination in the narrative section.

Complete and File the Complaint Form

Step 1:

Download the electronic Complaint of Discrimination in Employment Under Federal Government Contracts form. If you have difficulty downloading the form you may need to install free software that converts PDF files to viewable documents. For your convenience, we have provided a link to software provided by Adobe Systems Incorporated . This link is in no way an endorsement of either Adobe Systems Incorporated or Adobe Software.

Step 2:

Complete the Complaint of Discrimination in Employment Under Federal Government Contracts form and submit it by:

  • filing the complaint form electronically with the appropriate OFCCP Regional Office ; or
  • mailing or faxing the complaint form to the appropriate OFCCP Regional Office ; or
  • filing the complaint form in person with any OFCCP District or Area office .

The appropriate OFCCP regional office location is the office that covers the location where the alleged discrimination occurred. Your signature is required on the complaint form, if it is not on the form when you submit it, we will ask you to sign your form later. You may also submit a complaint by letter that includes all the information requested on the complaint form.

We will review your complaint form, or letter of complaint, and contact you if we need more information.

Step 3:

Call or visit any OFCCP District Area office if you have questions about the complaint process, want to discuss your complaint, or would like to learn where to file a complaint.

Who are we?

Alaska Tour Travel specializes in arranging custom vacation packages to Alaska for summer visitors. Our customers are predominately from outside Alaska, nearly all are from the US and Canada. We have been in business for over 10 years and we have helped over 100,000 visitors plan their Alaska vacations. Our office is located in southwest Anchorage on the corner of Jewel Lake Road and Dimond Boulevard. Our office staff ranges seasonally from 6 to 15 employees. Most of our communication with customers is done by phone and email. We also operate the Park Connection Motorcoach which is a bus service that runs from Denali Park to Seward daily during the summer months.

What type of jobs do we have?

Our primary business is making reservations for customers, so naturally our reservation agents are the heart of our business. All reservation agents work with clients by phone and email using a computerized reservation system. A typical day will include making reservations for Alaska travel products, preparing quotes, mailing brochures, preparing travel documents and other miscellaneous office duties. We look for employees with solid computer skills, a good knowledge of Alaska, an excellent attitude and the ability and desire to work as a team member. We have two levels of reservations employees.

Seasonal Reservation Agents

Many of our employees start as Seasonal Reservation Agents. We generally hire for these positions from November through March, with agents working through mid August to early September. We do have the flexibility of offering positions for college students who want to work part-time around class schedules through early May, switching to full-time May through the end of August. Compensation is a base hourly wage plus commission. For 2014 the base hourly wage will be $11.00 and we will guarantee total compensation to be at least $12.50 per hour worked when averaged over the entire work period.

Regular Full Time Reservation Agents

Most of our Regular Full time Reservation Agents are hired from employees who have first worked for us as a Seasonal Reservation Agent. We do hire some employees for this position from outside the company but they must have plenty of relevant work experience in the Alaska travel industry and solid work references. Regular Full time agents also qualify for company benefits.

Park Connection Supervisor

Our Park Connection Supervisor supervises the daily Park Connection operations to maintain the motorcoach schedule and high level of service.

Responsibilities include coordinating our local operations at the Anchorage Museum and Egan Center, including the checking in of clients, loading of coaches with luggage and passengers. Supervise our customer service expeditors, chartered Motorcoach drivers, luggage handlers and liaison with museum staff. In addition, the Lead position monitors the Park Connection motorcoaches as they proceed throughout the day, insuring the organized and timely transition for the arrival and departure of the Park Connection motorcoaches in Seward, Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks, and Whittier. Other duties as assigned by the Park Connection Manager.

Employment to start in April; May through September schedule is 5 – 8 hour days per week and you must be able to work weekends. The Park Connection Supervisor is on call via cell phone during scheduled work week. Hourly wage starts at $14 or DOE.

The Park Connection Supervisor position is an exciting and challenging position which provides for much of the work day being outside the office. An excellent position if you have past motorcoach driver-guide or customer service experience in tourism.

The Park connection Supervisor position can be combined with a Seasonal Reservation Agent position so that continuous employment occurs from January through September.

Expediters / Office Assistants / (Anchorage)

In Anchorage during the summer months we hire positions to help customers board motorcoaches downtown, including loading and off loading luggage. Duties include answering questions about our state, checking off passenger manifests and helping with luggage. Often these positions help in our office with basic duties such as filing, answering phones, document preparation. Many of these positions are part time. Hourly wages generally run $10 to $12 per hour.

Expediters (Seward and Denali Park)

In Seward and Denali Park during the summer months we hire positions to help customers board motorcoaches at each location. Duties include answering questions, checking off manifests, working with local hotels and helping with luggage. Many of these positions are part time. Hourly wages generally run $10 to $15 per hour.

If you are an experienced Alaska driver guide with a class B CDL looking for a great summer driving position we would like to hear from you. Park Connection drivers enjoy consistent hours and scheduled days off. Hourly wages paid to Park Connection drivers are generally higher than similar positions with most other companies. Our drivers actually work for a separate bus charter sub contractor but drop us an email or send us an application and we will get you more information on the hiring process.

When do we hire?

Although we hire throughout the winter, we have a limited amount of positions so we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible. For reservations position, we generally begin interviewing in November and employment shortly thereafter.

When I worked at Sun Travel, I was a full-time student in college. This company was willing to work with me to adjust my hours as needed.

Typically, I worked within the ticketing department or at the front desk. I would assist within both of those areas as needed. Because of this particular job, I was able to learn and develop skills that I might not have otherwise had. I was able to learn and grow.

Management was good and I was able to address any issues that I had with them. They were willing to help me find a way to be successful when I encountered a problem.

My co-workers were very submitted to what they were doing. Agents were ready to fight for their clients and make sure they got the best service. Quality Assurance and ticketing did everything they could to make sure that clients got tickets as quickly as possible. It was like a big family that had their roles, but still looked after one another.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and grow. I am really fortunate that I had the chance to work with such great people in a great environment. It was a time I will never forget.
