10 Best Places to Visit in Turkey

Last updated on September 28, 2015 in Turkey 18 Comments

Perched on a strategic hilltop overlooking the plains of Mesopotamia in southeastern Turkey, Mardin is the capital of the Mardin Province. One of the oldest settlements in the region, Mardin is best known for its cultural diversity and Old City of sandstone buildings that cascade down the hill. Mardin’s Old City is easily toured by walking. The maze of meandering streets leads visitors along terraced houses and popular sites like Deyrü’z-Zafaran Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the world, and the Sultan Isa Medresesi, a medieval monument that once served as an astronomical observatory.

One of the oldest cities in the world and best known for its remarkable Seljuk architecture and Whirling Dervishes, Konya is a large city in Turkey s Central Anatolia Region. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Konya prospered as a capital city under the rule of the Seljuk Dynasty. Today, buildings from that era can still be admired such as the Alaeddin Mosque and the ruins of the Seljuk Palace. Konya was also the home of the Persian theologian and Sufi mystic, Rumi. His mausoleum is a must-see site in Konya. Rumi’s followers founded the Mevlevi Order, better known as the Whirling Dervishes due to their religious ceremonies in which they spin around and around on the left foot while wearing white, billowing gowns.

10 Best Hotel Websites

If you are looking for a place to stay on your vacation or business trip the options on offer can be overwhelming. A hotel search tool allows you to instantly search and compare room availability and prices from sites like Expedia, Hotels.com, Venere, Laterooms, Agoda (and many more) all in one single set of search results. You could never cover the vast choice of hotel booking sites yourself, and so would more than likely miss out on the best deals. A great way to save time and money .

However, if you’re looking for a specific travel deal (hotel + flight for example) or a different type of accommodation (hostel or vacation rental) the following 10 best hotel websites have proven the most consistently useful for finding accommodation when traveling.

flickr/kevin dooley

Expedia.com one of the largest web travel booking agency offering a variety of services include airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises and vacation package deals. You can save money by booking your hotel and flight together. It is based in the US with localized sites for 20 countries.

Agoda.com great for deals in Asia but is also one of the fastest-growing platforms worldwide. You can earn points worth 4 -7% of the room price and apply these points towards your next booking.

Priceline.com – helps you haggle for the best bargains on hotel bookings (plus flight and car rental for that matter) in a casino-style way. Select the minimum star class, date of stay and preferred neighborhood, and then name your price. Certainly, deals aren t guaranteed but you can save up to 60% off published rates. The catch: Priceline doesn t tell you the exact hotel you re booking until after you pay, so you won’t be sure exactly where you’ll end up.

Booking.com the web most popular hotel reservation service attracting more than 30 million unique visitors each month from both leisure and business markets worldwide. It offers various accommodations types from small independent hotels to five star luxury resorts, with over 135,000 properties across 101 countries. Along with Agoda it is part of Priceline.com.

TripAdvisor.com – the most popular hotel review site on the web, They offer more than 45 million reviews of hotels around the globe. Ignore reviews on either extreme and just focus on the ratings in the middle to get a good sense about a hotel. The comments are not always reliable and the sources are not always credible. But you can find patterns in the comments that focus on quality, cleanliness and safety worldwide.

Hostelz.com – although probably associated with a bunk-bed lifestyle, many hostels offer more private, hotel-like accommodations these days. If you’re traveling alone you can save a great deal by staying at a hostel Hostelz.com compares all the hostel booking systems at once, including hostelbookers.com and Hostelworld.

LateRooms.com – as you may know, many hotels drop their prices at the last minute. It s better for them to fill their rooms at a discount rate than have them unoccupied. LateRooms.com is one of the main outlets that hotels (as well as B Bs and guest-houses) use to try to fill their empty rooms. Thy offer around 37,000 properties and promises discounts of up to 70%.

Hotwire.com One of the best hotel websites for discount travel. Hotwire offers low prices on airfare, hotel, rental cars and vacation packages by selling off unsold travel inventory at discounted prices.

HomeAway.com the world’s leading online marketplace of vacation rentals. with websites representing more than 625,000 paid vacation rental home listings throughout more than 145 countries. They offer short term home rentals as an alternative to hotels when traveling, an option which has seen rapid popularity growth in recent years. Home rentals are often cheaper than hotels and have more space but you have to do without a cleaning service or hotel amenities.

BedandBreakfast.com perhaps the biggest bed and breakfast booking site on the web. Bedandbreakfast.com offers thousands of bed and breakfasts, inns and homestays lodges, cabins, historic hotels, small resorts and guest ranches worldwide.

Three Planes and a War – Why Accidental Death Insurance is Important

Published:Tue, 29 Jul 2014 06:00:00 GMT

A recent spate of international plane crashes has many people thinking about their own mortality and what they would want to happen for their loved ones. People purchase accidental death insurance to assure their loved ones will be taken care of financially should the unthinkable happen.

According to the US Travel Insurance Association (USTIA), Many travelers mistakenly believe that their health insurance plan or the U.S. government will provide assistance in the event of a medical emergency. This can be a very expensive mistake, as these organizations may only provide the most basic medical referrals, and they may not pay for the expenses associated with a medical emergency, which can easily approach $100,000 for a serious medical problem.

To help you sort through the myriad plans offered by Travel Insurance Center. we ve compiled the best-sellers by category for the first quarter of 2014. Keep these in mind when you re searching for the best policy for your clients.

Political unrest. Civil disorder. Act of war.

These words are frequently found in the exclusion clauses of a travel insurance policy. And they re hot topics in today s news, whether about Ukraine, Syria or other places where your clients are traveling.

With all the weather issues this year, there have been many vacations cancelled, cruises missed and flights cancelled, resulting in delays of two or three days. I couldn t help but think of the term The Luck of the Irish, which can mean good luck if you re Irish or bad luck if you re not. But where was it for those unlucky Irish souls who were caught in these situations?

Many people (your clients) are busy making vacation arrangements right now. That means there s an opportunity for you to earn a few extra dollars. For example, take a quote I gave this weekend to a couple in their 80s. If you d sold them the quoted travel insurance plan for their 71-day Africa/Europe cruise beginning in March 2015, I d line your pockets with a little more than $2,500 bucks in commission.

When events like terrorism threaten travel plans, your role as an insurance agent puts you in the easy seat to help your client and make a sale even if travel insurance isn t your bread and butter. The recent government-issued travel warnings in the final weeks before the Feb. 7th kickoff of the Sochi Olympics present a prime example.

All-inclusive Costa Rica Options

Resorts in Costa Rica with all inclusive service options allow guests to worry less about a daily schedule and focus on having a relaxing and fun getaway. Many families prefer these types of hotels, as their kids cannot easily wander off or get into trouble, allowing parents to relax and enjoy their holiday. Facilities tend to be secure with plenty of on-site activities and services to keep the entire clan entertained.  Couples like these hotels, as they can be extremely relaxing and worry-free .to the point of encouraging no-guilt laziness , thanks to a carefree and pleasure-filled environment.

Location, location, location

One of the biggest advantages of Costa Rican resort properties is their prime location.  The larger all inclusive hotels enjoy some of the finest beachfront locations in the country. Smaller hotels can rarely afford the maintenance required at such grandiose facilities nearby the corrosive, salty air.  As a result, many spectacular beachfront locations in the country are occupied by these larger hotels.

Not all resorts are the same

And that particularly true in regard to their ambiance and the clientele they attract. In addition, the food quality and the service levels vary greatly. Some of the all inclusive resorts in Costa Rica have a more laid-back and carefree vibe, while others emphasize white glove service and elegant facilities. Certain properties have complete, all-inclusive plans where rates include meals, snacks and alcoholic drinks.  Other properties offer meals-only or flexible meal plans.  At a few of these hotels, a meal plan is a necessity, as the properties are not nearby local towns.

Costa Rica Special: Meal-inclusive, boutique properties

Before you go about selecting hotels for your vacation, it is important that you understand the purpose of your trip and the type of experience you desire .  For example, the adults only hotel, Villa Buena Onda offers an incredible setting for romance and relaxation, but might be better avoided by a group of young singles. There are other properties whose mood changes dramatically depending on the season, as the type of traveler they attract varies during specific periods. This is where a local expert at our travel agency can guide you in the right direction.  In our experience, often a negative hotel review is the result of a client who stayed at a property that was not right for their needs.  Travel with us and we ll be sure you avoid that mistake!

Extended Auto Warranty – Vehicle Service Contract Info Center #extended #auto

#

Vehicle Service Contract Information Center

Welcome to ExtendedAutoWarranty.com, home of the Internet’s largest library of resources on extended auto warranties. We are an independent team of researchers, reviewers, and auto protection experts. We provide unbiased and honest information that we publish ourselves as well as material found on the Internet that has been deemed relevant and reputable.

It is our mission to provide consumers with the advice they need without the hassle of finding it.

Because so many “review sites” and “information resources” provide opinions that have been influenced by the company under review, it is difficult to find a straight answer to your questions. We scour the Internet, call every company, and compile then share our research outcome with you. At ExtendedAutoWarranty.com, you get all the advice you need and none of the bias that you don’t.

We were like you once: Owning a car with repairs that we could barely afford, constantly searching for a better way to deal with costly repair bills. But one thing we found extremely difficult was getting information that was not only truthful but unbiased. We found dozens of websites claiming to provide information on the extended warranty industry that contained less-than-credible resources. As a result, we brought this website to life. And by doing so, we became the #1 Consumer Extended Vehicle Protection website on the Internet.

Extended Auto Warranty Companies Reviewed

Finding the best plan at the right price is not easy so you’ll have to take time to shop around. Of course you have to first decide if you actually need the warranty. This will depend on personal preferences and how much of the future risks you are willing to take care of. While most cars will require numerous repairs for as long as you own them, some will need no more than routine maintenance. Then there are those that will require unexpected but very expensive repairs. Just like when purchasing a vehicle, the best way is to compare different options on the internet. Fortunately, there are independent companies that review and rate extended auto warranty providers for clients.

Extended auto coverage is available for new as well as used cars. Since new cars come with a factory warranty, the need for extended coverage largely depends on how long you intend to keep the vehicle. For example, most factory plans usually last three years or up to 36,000 miles. Now if you intend to keep the car for two or three years, purchasing an extended warranty may make little sense. However, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time after the factory warranty expires then it’s a good idea to extend your protection. If buying a used car, there is a high probability that the factory coverage plan will not be transferable or will have expired so you’ll need extra protection.

It’s always good to know what is covered, and what’s not covered by the Vehicle Service Contract you intend to buy. Does it cover wear and tear? What about breakdown? Under breakdown, some warranties cover only the parts that break. But you know well that not all parts fail due to breakdown so such a policy will be less inclusive than is desirable. Some policies extend coverage to parts that wear out with time under the “wear and tear” subtitle. Again, not all extended policies have this feature. Some contracts do not cover ABS brakes and most of them don’t cover overheating. Transmission, engine, seals and gaskets, drive axle assembly and turbocharger/superchargers will usually be covered, though it is better to fully explore specific options before committing to a plan.

Some companies require that you pay the repair and submit a receipt to the warranty provider for reimbursement. While this is not a bad idea, you may sometimes have to wait for weeks or even months before you get your money back. Then there are those that pay the repair shop directly and almost immediately. For purposes of convenience, never purchase warranties that don’t pay the shop directly.

Costa Rica Vacation Packages by 100% Local Experts #travel #gear

Vacation Packages

Where to Go, What to See.

Costa Rica is small but incredibly diverse. Rainforests and beaches, rivers and cloud forests, volcanoes and mountain ranges, all in a country smaller than West Virginia! With so many choices, planning a trip can be overwhelming. We have put together a number of Costa Rica vacation packages that are examples of our most popular travel itineraries. These include hotels, tours, and transportation. Don t forget All of these sample trips can be customized for your needs.

Our most popular Costa Rica vacation packages are typically 7 to 10 nights and offer a combination stay at several destinations. One of the best-selling combos includes a hotel near the Arenal Volcano, followed by a visit to the beach. Favorite beach destinations include Manuel Antonio national park or the windswept beaches of the Guanacaste province, home to the majority of our all inclusive vacation packages .

There is a wide range of attractions and tour activities in all areas, however, Arenal really does offer everything. Besides great views of the majestic volcano, Arenal features other remarkable landmarks, such as waterfalls, hanging bridges, and hot springs. The large, man-made lake is located just behind the volcano, and the surrounding national park bursts with spectacular flora and fauna. This area offers many activities for families and couples alike, such as zip-lining, waterfall rappelling, white water rafting, visits to the world renowned hot springs and coffee farms.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio is an excellent base for whale-watching in the waters of Ballena National Marine Park. Anglers will enjoy a full day of deep-sea or inshore sportfishing. There are numerous water sports available, kayaking, snorkeling, para-sailing, surfing, or visits to nearby spice farms, and of course hiking on numerous jungle trails. The town and hotels are set into the jungle on a hill overlooking the beautiful beach and nature is all around. It is common for your mornings to be accompanied by both Squirrel and Capuchin monkeys.

Other Options

Nature lovers should keep Monteverde on the top of their bucket list while those looking for the luxury and amenities of larger hotels should check out the all-inclusive resorts of the Papagayo Peninsula. Jaco Beach is ideal for sport fishing enthusiasts, avid golfers and those seeking some local nightlife. All-inclusive Costa Rica vacation packages always include trip to the north Pacific coast, with beautiful, white-sand beaches.

Off the Beaten Track

We can customize ALL of our sample Costa Rica vacations just for you. If you’re feeling adventurous, you may choose some off-the-beaten-track destinations to your itinerary. An Osa Peninsula vacation is a popular choice for those who seek the “road less traveled”, as the undisturbed tropical paradise of Corcovado National Park is accessible only by boat. A “green season” must-see destination is Tortuguero. This hidden gem is located on the Caribbean coast and is a world-class turtle refuge. The Nicoya Peninsula is another of the lesser-known areas, popular with adventure travelers, surfers, and yoga buffs.

In our experience, for a seven-day trip, we recommend visiting two destinations. If you plan to stay longer than that, you can enjoy three or even four destinations. Take a look at our Country Guide on the right to see which ones suit you best.

Overwhelmed and confused? No worries! Our consultants can prepare you a custom vacation package that suits any needs. Contact us to start planning your visit today!

Africa Travel Advice from the Experts #travel #bag

Africa Travel Advice

With over a decade of experience behind us, we are the experts in safari travel but this means more than just information about destinations and accommodation. Get our tried-and-tested tips on flights, getting around, what you should pack and what you should spend – it’ll all come in handy when you’re on your trip!

Flights Getting Around

Africa is well served by international airlines and its gateway airports are Johannesburg. Cape Town. Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. Once you’ve arrived, we can easily arrange a group or private transfer that will take you directly to your city hotel or we’ll show you how to connect with your ongoing flights.

Our top safari destinations are usually accessed via a scheduled flight to the nearest airport and then a pre-arranged transfer to the lodge; however, private charter flights can also be arranged which will take you to the nearest airstrip, often just minutes away from camp. Have a look at our detailed Flights section for more information on airports as well as flying into and around Africa.

For the more independent-minded visitor, South Africa and Namibia are great self-drive destinations and suitable vehicles can be hired and dropped off at their major airports.

Health Safety

A question often asked by first-time visitors to Africa is: “is it safe?”. Well, our recommended African destinations are actually some of the safest in the world and many are ideal for families travelling with children. We have many child-friendly safari lodges to offer you, malaria-free Big 5 reserves. and beach resorts with professional kids clubs. Medical facilities in Africa’s cities and major tourist destinations are fine and staff at safari lodges will brief you about camp safety on arrival.

Security issues are no worse in Africa than the rest of the world: it’s simply a case of using your common sense and not exposing yourself to risk. Our African Safari Experts will give you all the advice you need, and it always pays to ask for local advice once you’re in Africa. Read our blog “How to Travel Safely in Africa” for more helpful tips.

One thing that you will need to take care of is any medication that’s needed for your trip, whether it’s malaria prophylactics or a yellow fever injection. Consult your doctor during your planning or simply check with your African Safari Expert.

Money Spending

With ATMs and bureau de changes found throughout Africa’s major towns, you can access cash pretty much anywhere. Most African countries accept US dollars as their currency of choice (as well as Euros and Sterling in some countries) but you’ll need Rand (ZAR) for South Africa.

As for cards, Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted across the continent but be aware of incurring high transaction fees in certain countries. For peace of mind, we’d recommend purchasing a world currency card or cash passport card before you leave.

While tipping and gratuities are not compulsory on your African safari, they are always appreciated. Ask your African Safari Expert for details on tipping, check out our country-specific travel advice pages or simply ask your lodge manager or host on arrival.

Read more about budgeting for your trip with our Top Tips on Booking Your African Safari .

Read more about guides and tipping protocol in our article Africa Safari Guides Trackers .

What to Pack

Packing for Africa depends on where you’re going as well as what time of the year you’re travelling.

If you’re going on safari, it’s wise to pack decent walking shoes, light or neutral coloured clothing (not white) and a warm top or jacket for the evenings. A sunhat is vital, as are sunglasses, binoculars, a camera, spare batteries or a charger, insect repellent, sunscreen and malaria prophylactics if necessary. An international plug, small daypack and personal water bottle are also recommended.

You may also need several items of warm clothing if you’re on a winter safari in places like Botswana and Namibia as night time temperatures can dip below freezing. Conversely, if you’re heading off on a beach holiday then we recommend you bring along a bathing suit, sarong, wide-brimmed hat and flip-flops.

Passports Visas

It is essential to ensure you have the right paperwork in place before flying to Africa. Generally all passports need to have a number of blank pages available while visa specifications differ depending on nationality and destination. Note that visa regulations can sometimes change without much warning.

We recommend contacting the relevant authorities in good time or simply chat to your African Safari Expert before you go – they’ll have all the answers.

For more expert advice on where to go, what to see and what to do on your African vacation, take a look at our Africa Travel Blog .
