My family has used FTB in Brentwood for many years. My mother was recently hospitalized and suffered some temporary confusion. During this time, my brother took her to the bank with a power of attorney document he had printed from online. Bank employees notarized this very serious legal document, thereby invalidating one already made by a lawyer. Now that she has recovered enough to realize what happened, the bank refuses to let her revoke the POA even though she has every legal right to do so. I spoke with one employee about this and he admitted he knows nothing about POA although his name appears as part of authorizing the document. This employee as well as the branch manager assured me they would contact me within the day after speaking to the legal department, but neither ever bothered to respond. The negligence and incompetence is astounding and has caused a great deal of stress for a number of people. A bank has no business engaging in such legal matters as this situation clearly attests.

I used to have a F*** Tennessee checking account. I had given a company permission to take payments out of my account. When they kept taking more than I had approved a f*** Tennessee rep called me about being overdrawn. I told her I was being a victim of fraud and to please not give them anymore money. To my suprise she told me that they couldn’t stop the auto payments and only I could do that. I couldn’t believe what she was saying and I again told her I was being a victim of fraud and I would not be responsible for any future withdrawals. Well they continued to allow the withdrawals until they racked up over $1000 in overdraft and then closed the account. When they contacted me about the amount owed I explained what happened and that I wasn’t going to pay it. Well they siued me and rather than getting a lawyer I paid them. I know this is unbelievable but please beware of this SORRY bank. George David Ormandy

How to Get Cheap First Class Airline Tickets

Items you will need

  • Credit card with elite status Membership in airline loyalty program

Step 1

Sign up for airline newsletters to receive word of sales, coupons and discounts. Most carriers will have an email sign up on the website #039;s front page, or you can sign up for compilation newsletters from services like TravelZoo.com. Airlines often run events featuring cut-rate deals on flights, but only for those savvy enough to read their bulletins.

Step 2

Fly a particular airline repeatedly to build frequent-flier miles. Accumulated travel equals loyalty in the eyes of a carrier, which often rewards that loyalty with free or cheap first-class upgrades. To obtain a domestic seat with just miles, you #039;ll need between 40,000 and 60,000 miles for most airlines, according to Erica Silverstein of USA Today. For an upgrade from an existing coach reservation, the amount drops to around 15,000 miles for a domestic flight.

Step 3

Fly with an airline that has a low-price first-class section. Low-cost carriers have a corresponding cheap first-class section compared with legacy or luxury carriers. These airlines often have loyalty programs that record flights or miles, so the trip can come in handy later on.

Purchase a special type of ticket that allows a first-class upgrade. One type, known as a K-UP or Y-UP, is an economy fare that allows travel in first class if there is space available, according to international travel tip site Air Travel Genius. You also can purchase a full-fare economy ticket that comes with the option of a complimentary upgrade, if space allows. Silverstein says to check before purchasing, since some airlines mandate that upgrades are limited to elite fliers.

Use a credit card that grants elite status as a perk. If you use the card to book your flight, the airline might discount the cost of the flight, give an automatic upgrade, or award substantial miles on the purchase. This option is available only to those who qualify for these hard-to-get credit cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much house can I afford?

Start with how much you want to spend each month on housing. Most budgets call for earmarking 28% of your post-tax income for house payments, including your homeowners insurance and property tax. For example, if your annual income after taxes is $60,000, 28% of that is $16,800, or $1,400 per month. However, every situation is different. Maybe you have costs in your monthly budget that affect your bottom line, such as childcare, car payments, or student loans – the important thing is to find a monthly payment that you’re comfortable with.

Talk to a Home Loan Expert or use our mortgage calculator to see how the numbers add up based on today’s mortgage rates.

How do I find out the cost of homeowners insurance and property taxes?

Based on where you live and what kind of policy you want, your property taxes and homeowners insurance can vary widely. You can usually get a quick estimate on homeowners insurance by visiting a provider’s website – try getting a few quotes to find a competitive price. To see what kind of taxes you might pay, you can ask your real estate agent to help you research the tax rate in the areas where you’re house hunting, or you can visit the county tax assessor’s website to find public records of taxes on homes in the neighborhoods where you want to live. Many states also provide a property tax estimator online.

Should I buy a house?

If you’re thinking about buying a home, there are a number of factors that can help you decide if now is the right time. Are mortgage rates low? Are you planning to live in the same city for the next five or more years? Are rents rising in your city? Do you want to customize your home? If the answer to most of these questions is “yes,” then buying a home is a good option for you. Check out this article for a deeper look at the pros and cons of buying a home versus renting .

What are closing costs?

Mortgage closing costs, also known as settlement costs, are fees charged for services that must be performed to process and close your loan application. Examples of mortgage closing costs include title fees, recording fees, appraisal fees, credit report fees, pest inspection, attorney’s fees, taxes and surveying fees. The closing cost of a loan will vary depending on your geographic location.

Lenders are required by law to provide you with two documents – the Loan Estimate and the Closing Disclosure – which outline your closing costs and help you avoid surprises at the closing table. For more information regarding the loan process through Quicken Loans, call (800) 251-9080 to talk with a Home Loan Expert today.

Destination America #when #immigrants #first #came #to #america

#

Between 1815 and 1915, some 30 million Europeans arrived in the United States. For many it was a long and arduous journey. In the early part of the century, just getting to a port of embarkation might mean days or weeks of travel on foot, by rivercraft, or in horse-drawn vehicles. Because regularly scheduled departures were rare in the age of sail, immigrants often had to wait in port for days or weeks before their ship departed.

In Northern Europe, many immigrants departed from Dutch or German ports like Amsterdam and Bremen. Later, when immigration from Central and Eastern Europe was on the rise, immigrants often had to travel down the Danube River to Black Sea ports like Constanta and Varna. From there, they had to endure weeks or months at sea aboard sailing ships subject to the vagaries of wind and weather.

The spread of the railroads across Europe in the mid-1800s greatly shortened travel time to embarkation ports, while the introduction of steamships cut passage time from weeks to days, in the case of the fastest ships. Ships also increased in size, some carrying more than 1,000 immigrants in steerage class.

Except in places where immigration was restricted like the Russian Empire it was fairly easy to travel from an obscure European village to the United States by the late 19th century. A potential immigrant contracted with a shipping company agent, often a local cleric or teacher, who informed the head office at the departure port. The agent then received a departure date and ticket voucher, which he passed along to the immigrant, who boarded a train for the port city. If the port of embarkation was Bremen, immigrants could almost step directly from the train onto their ship the city had railroad track leading right onto the docks.

Between 1882 and 1917, the U.S. government introduced laws regulating immigration. In 1891, for example, Congress barred from admission those “suffering from a loathsome or a dangerous contagious disease” and those “convicted [of] a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude” like anarchists and polygamists. As a result, steamship lines became increasingly careful about whom they let on board. Immigrants had to have their papers checked and their health inspected before departure. Sometimes immigrants had to spend several days awaiting boarding, during which they were lodged and fed by the steamship company.

In euchre, What is the best card to lead first? #yuker, euchre, first

#

What Card should I Lead? page 1

One of the first questions new players frequently ask is ‘having the first play, what card should I lead?’ There are many different factors involved. Let’s take a look at some common situations.

Opponents bid and I have first lead

Usually the best starting lead is a singleton ace (an ace with no other cards in that suit). An ace with one other card in that suit (doubleton ace) should be your second choice, if not next suit (the shortened suit which is the same color as the trump suit). Playing a doubleton ace in next suit, or an ace in a suit where you have two or more additional cards, means there are at most three cards remaining in that suit. It will likely be trumped, probably by the bidder. If you wait, you may be able to make these aces good after a round of trump has been played.

With no good ace to play, try setting up a king for use later in the hand. This is done by leading the low card from a King – X combination. You are hoping for the ace to fall. While not guaranteed, this strategy may work and is worth a try. Even in a junk hand, it’s important to try and use every card to your advantage.

If you don’t have any of the above, the best lead seems to be the smallest non-trump card from your shortest suit. This is based on my experience and worth a try. No matter what you end up leading, keep in mind you’re trying to lead a suit that your opponents won’t able to trump.

In general it is not a good idea to lead the right when your opponents call. In fact most of the time it is not wise to lead any trump when they call. This only serves to take trump out of your partner’s hand and helps your opponents to make their bid. There are a few unique circumstances where a trump lead may be correct. There is a link at the bottom with more information.

This is good time to mention that one should never lead the suit that was turned down. The most likely reason it was turned down is that your opponents didn’t have any or many of that suit. If you hold an ace in the turned down suit, it is best to wait till later in the hand to play it.

If the dealer picks up and you hold three trump, lead the middle trump, not your smallest. You don’t want to lead a small trump as this may allow the bidder to take the trick using their small trump. You are trying to force out their large trump, which could leave you in a position to control trump latter on. Many times this is the only way to set them up for a euchre, as there is a chance that you hold more trump then the bidder does.

My partner bid and I have first lead

If your partner declared trump and you hold the right or left bower, this should be your first lead. This tells your partner where it is, and informs them how to play the rest of their hand. If you hold both bars (bowers), only play the right. Do not play both, as this may clear out all trump and leave the opposition holding the boss aces.

If you do not hold a bower, lead a small trump. Since your partner bid, they most likely hold at least one bower. A trump lead should take out a round of trump and bring the lead straight to your partner. It will also give you partner a chance to play any aces they may hold. You will get a chance to play your aces latter in the hand. Remember, there are a total of seven trump cards, and a trump lead could remove four of them straight away. This greatly increases the chance of your team’s aces winning later.

On a call from 3rd seat, a trump lead is mandatory. Often a team has been euchred because the partner did not lead trump first. If you don’t have a trump to lead then lead your aces as described in the first paragraph. By leading an ace or a non-trump card you are telling your partner you don’t have any trump in your hand. Now he knows the other trump could be in the oppositions’ hands and he can play his hand accordingly.

I bid and have the first lead

On a bid from 1st seat, you should start by planning out how you are going to play the hand. Ask yourself: How strong is my hand? Would it be best to get trump out of the way so I can make my other cards good? Will I be able to control trump?

In a hand where you hold aces and you also hold a couple of trump plus the right bower, your best lead is normally the right. By removing trump from your opponents’ hands you will increase the chances of making your aces good. When you lead the right, watch to see if your partner follows suit. If they don’t, and you hold the left plus another trump, lead the left. The opposition is likely to be holding more than one trump, and you don’t want them to be able use trump against you. If you partner throws off because they can’t follow suit pay attention to what card they play. They may be giving you information on what suit they hold boss cards in.

On a next call, as your partner may hold a bower, many times a small trump is your best lead. This will draw out a round of trump, pass the lead to your partner, and allow them to play any aces they may hold.

Guidelines to help get you started

As your skill level advances, you may want to try out different strategies. Plan out your hand and try to make it work for you. Only experience will teach you the best lead in any given hand. Remember, there are four things to take into consideration to determine your lead: Who made trump? What is trump? What is your position at the table? What cards do you hold in your hand? Your position and who made trump are the most important.

It may also be a good idea to occasionally change the way you lead. You don’t want your opponents to be able to predict what your lead will be. Some people suggest switching between colors when you are in the lead. So if black was just led, lead red, and vice-versa. When you have that option, it’s worth a try.

Normally one should not lead trump on the opponents call. Improper leading of trump generally results in helping them making a point. While there are some circumstances where this lead may be correct and possibly the only way to set a team up for a euchre, new players should avoid leading trump.

In particular, it is worth asking yourself
the following questions:

Should I try and pull trump?
Should I lead a loser and hope my partner can trump it?
What suit was turned down?
Do I play my Ace now or wait until the end?

Each decision could mean the success or failure of the hand. There is little opportunity to recover from a mistake. Remember, this is a partnership game, so try to play into your partners hand when possible. Try different types of leads. Through practice, you will learn what works best.

4th trick leads

There are those players who think that once they get to the 4th trick and make their point, nothing else matters. They just toss out a random card to get the hand over. The truth is that the correct play here can make the difference between 1 and 2 points. There are even some hands when the correct lead could mean saving their team from being euchred. Knowing what card to play on the 4th lead is such an important part of a player’s euchre strategy that I have dedicated an entire section to it.

Here’s what our viewers are saying

My brothers-in-law tried teaching me euchre this weekend, and I have the basics in mind, but, they gt kind of mad at me for this: if it s my lead and I have 9/Q/A of the trump suit, why *shouldn t* I lead with the 9? Wouldn t sacrificing that 9 to draw out the bowers make my Q and A stronger?

To give an answer I would need more information. Who made trump, what position are you, was it the first lead of the hand.

but let s assume you re in 1st and your partner just named trump. Then I would agree a trump lead is best.

Don s right, position and who made it is everything. Assuming your 1st.
1 if you made trump and play your 9 the opposing team can now use a smaller trump card (Q) to steal a trick. Or sees your partner play a K or Bower and the 4th player trumps higher.
2 if you did not make trump youve now sucked not only you small trump but whatever you partner had. If you partner has 1 trump they could be useless now. If they have 2 trump your team went from 5 trump to 2 now.

Here s an app that will help determine what your odds are.

How to Save a Wet Cell Phone: 6 Steps #the #first

#

How to Save a Wet Cell Phone

This instructable will cover two ways that can help you repair a “wet” phone. As water damage varies from case to case, there is no guarantees that this will work in your case, but it is worth a try!

It is important to know that these procedures will NOT void warranty. However, if your phone has been water damaged, there is a large chance your warranty is already void! On newer phones, there is usually a sticker in the battery bay that is used to tell the manufacturer when a phone has been “water damaged” which allows the manufacturer to then cancel the warranty. This sticker is usually round in shape, and starts off white when it is not wet. Although, I think my samsung a900M started with brown and went to black.

If neither of these methods work, and your sticker is still it’s original color, try to have your phone serviced under warranty.

CAUTION: Before attempting ANY method in this instructable, remove the battery, battery door, and SIM card if applicable, and place them in a safe location!

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damages to your phone as a result of you attempting any of these methods, do so at your own risk.

Step 1: Understanding the Problem

When your phone got wet, it most likely got some moisture trapped inside it. This moisture causes the phone to behave very funny, and possibly not even power up.
This is due to the conductivity of water (It’s ability to have electrical current pass through it.) This moisture can bridge certain connections in your phone, causing these behaviors.

Even though your phone may behave fine at first, it is better to dry the phone before use anyways, as the water that remains inside can be moved around, and cause issues later.

So what to remember, is that after exposing your phone to moisture, you want to nullify the moisture inside.

Step 2: Prepping the Phone for “repair”

As we discussed in the last step, we want to make the water either dry up, or we can use a “Neutralizer” technique that allows it to become not as conductive.

The first thing we need to do is remove the battery and battery door and place them in a safe spot. This is because the phone can air out better without the battery, we don’t want to damage the battery, and we also reduce the amount of live circuits that the water can short out.

Step 3: Method One: Heat It Up!

I live in Arizona, and here in the sunny state of AZ, we have an abundance of swimming pools. My phone has gone for a swim many times in the past few weeks, and this method was tried and proved each time.

Fortunately, here in Arizona, I can take off the battery and leave the phone in the sun, on a towel to prevent heat damage from surface contact, for about 20 minutes and it’s good to go! Your timing may vary depending on how hot the sun is, but this method is my preferred.

Pretty simple, remove the battery door and battery, place them inside, place a rag out in the sun and put the rest of the phone on that. Depending on how hot of a day it is, bring the phone inside for a bit if it ever gets hot to the touch (overheating can damage LCD screens.)

Step 4: Method 2: Freeze It!

The second method consists of freezing the water inside the phone. This is by far my favorite method if your outside temperature does not go over 80 F.

Again, we start by taking out the battery.
Place the phone on two or three layers of paper towel to prevent frost damage.
Leave it in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes and take it out to test it, if it still doesn’t work, leave it out for about 5 to 10 minutes then try again. Electrical components are fairly tolerant to cold, however depending on your screen, it is best to play it safe and just leave it out of the freezer for a bit to keep from damaging it. I haven’t researched LCD or Plasma screens, so if anyone knows what temperatures they hold up to, let us know!

That’s cool, but why does it work?

Freezing the phone works a little differently on a technical level than heating it up does.
When the water molecules inside become Ice or frost, they are less conductive (I believe due to the spacing of molecules?) thus preventing the phone from “shorting out.”

This method my also lead to the problem acting up again as the phone thaws, or a worse problem acting up as the phone thaws and the water moves to a different spot.
It is also of note, that some electronic components are ‘surface mounted’, which results in tiny space between the component and the circuit board it self. This means that if water manages to get underneath the components and is then frozen, it can expand and cause further issues. However, in my opinion, the possibility of water getting under there with the phone only being submerged for a little while, is pretty slim.

Step 5: Unverified Methods

The following are methods that I have not verified myself. Next time my phone gets wet, I’ll try some out!

1: The oven
It is said that placing the phone in the oven for a few hours at about 125 F. will solve the problem. This method sounds likely, but I would recommend taking it out now and then to test it and let it cool! And don’t forget to remove the battery, cover, and SIM card!

UPDATE:
User Carolradtech has tried this method, and said the following.
I successfully baked my wet cell phone on 125 for 40 minutes and the phone is now fixed. the unverified baking method is now verified.

2: Rice
It has also been reported that placing the phone in a bowl of rice while putting it in the sun allows the moisture to absorb faster. As the water evaporates into steam, the dry rice can absorb it rather than have it re-condense elsewhere inside the phone.

3: Silica!
This one is similar to the rice method, it just utilizes a better drying agent. Ya know those little packets that come in jerky, new shoes, purses, backpacks, whatever, that say “DO NOT EAT” all over them? The contain little balls of a chemical called “silica.” Place these in a bag with the phone, and toss it in the sun! This is potentially the best method I have heard of. It is also of note that craft shops sell silica as a flower drying agent.

4: Give it booze!
Well not exactly. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is non-conductive. It is said that if you get some, put it in a cup or a bucket, and swirl the phone around in there, it will rinse out the water and likely even clean some dust deposits! This will prevent any further “bridging” of connections as it is non-conductive, and alcohol evaporates super fast.
A few words of caution: I would try this only with the bottom half of your phone if you have a flip-phone, as I am not sure how the screen will react. Also, I wouldn’t attempt it with anything less than 91% isopropyl.

Last but not least..
5: Open it up and air dry!
This is the best method hands down, but it will sacrifice any sort of warranty you had. I do NOT recommend this method unless you are entirely comfortable with it.

Step 6: Rrport Your Success/failure!

Now your phone hopefully functions as good as new! Let us all know how it worked (or didn’t) and keep your information-lifeline away from swimming pools!

The state also has employed a “no tolerance” policy for anyone who is caught driving under the influence under the age of 18 and for repeat drunk driving offenders. If you have incurred a DUI in California, the best thing to do would be to hire an elite team of Los Angeles DUI lawyers to help you fight your charges, and we are here to ensure you partner up with your ideal paralegal.

• If you are under the age of 21 and are operating a vehicle after consuming alcoholic beverages. Persons under 21 may not have any alcoholic substances in their vehicle when driving alone. (Exceptions may be made for work-related driving).

Repeat Offenders

Repeat Los Angeles DUI offenders may be denied application for a restricted license as well. The state of California takes all previous charges into account when issuing penalties for a new one. This may lead to a motorist being charged with a misdemeanor or felony DWI. All repeat DUI punishments are also affected by where the driver was issued the charge as well as the driver’s BAC level at the time of arrest.

Recent Amendments to California DUI Laws

As of 2011, California DWI laws have expanded the number of categories by which the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) can immediately suspend driving privileges when the motorist is suspected of driving under the influence.

As of 2010, California law requires the mandatory installation of ignition interlock devices. The state also shortened the time period in which driving penalties are restricted, including those for repeat offenders. In order for the penalty period to be shortened, motorists must pay all required fees and file an SR-22 insurance form.

California Assembly Bill 91 – Requires that ignition interlock device manufacturers provide information to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Also requires the DMV to establish a pilot program in Alameda, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Tulare that requires a driver to install an interlock ignition device and to participate in alcohol and drug assessment programs.

California Assembly Bill 1165 (Zero Tolerance Law For Repeat Offenders) – Makes it unlawful for a motorist under probation for a violation to operate a motor vehicle with a BAC level of .01 percent or higher.

California Senate Bill 1190 (Ignition Interlock Devices) – Lowers the minimum BAC level at the time of arrest to allow a motorist to install an ignition interlock device on their vehicle as well as prohibits said motorist from operating the vehicle without the device.

California Senate Bill 1388 (Interlock Devices) – Effective July 2009, requires motorists to install an ignition interlock device immediately on their vehicles following conviction of violating DUI provisions as well as driving under a suspended/revoked license due to DUI-related convictions. The number of violations will determine the time period in which the device must remain installed.

California Assembly Bill 2802 (Reckless Driving) – Court must order DWI convict to participate in a program related to DUI education and treatment. Probation will be revoked if motorist does not enroll in the program.

California SR-22 Insurance Click here for SR-22 Insurance

If you have been convicted of drunk driving in California, you may be required to obtain a California SR-22 insurance policy. Also known as a California Proof of Insurance Certificate,” the SR-22 form is not a type of insurance, but a form of proof that you have certain types of insurance. It is filed by the driver’s insurance company to the state DMV stating that auto liability insurance is in effect for the motorist. It is typically required after a motorist has been charged with DWI, a number of other traffic offices, or an accident in Los Angeles, San Diego or San Francisco.

In California, if your license is suspended you are allowed to obtain a restricted license by the court, for which an SR-22 form may be required. If your auto insurance is cancelled, you will need to file for a new insurance plan within 45 days.

TAM Airlines First A350-900 Makes Its Maiden Flight

by Staff on December 1, 2015

TAM Airlines’ first Airbus A350-900 has  made its first flight, from Airbus widebody assembly facility at Toulouse Blagnac International Airport in southwestern France.

The aircraft will now progress to its final production phase, which includes further ground checks and flight tests, before delivery to TAM Airlines.

This photograph shows TAM Airlines first Airbus A350-900 taking off on its maiden flight, on December 1, 2015

Delivery of TAM Airlines first A350-900 to the carrier is due to take place later this month.

Brazilian carrier TAM will become the first airline from the Americas to fly the Airbus A350 XWB and the fourth operator in the world.

LATAM Airlines Group, which is made up of LAN Airlines and TAM Airlines and their subsidiaries, has ordered 27 A350-900s.

All the LAN and TAM group carriers are eventually to be merged into a unified carrier called LATAM, which will be South America s largest airline by far once the operational merger is completed.

On December 1, 2015, the first Airbus A350-900 for Brazil s TAM Airlines made its first flight. TAM was eventually due to be merged with LAN Airlines to form the unified carrier LATAM

TAM will put its first A350-900 into commercial service in January, initially operating the aircraft between the Brazilian cities of São Paulo and Manaus in order to build operational experience with the type quickly.

The airline will then put the A350-900 into service on long-haul international routes from São Paulo to Miami, Madrid and Orlando.

As of the end of October, Airbus had received firm orders for 787 A350 XWB-family aircraft from 41 customers.

However, on November 13, Airbus announced that TAP Portugal had substituted a firm order for 12 A350-900s with a firm order for 14 A330-900neos.

    UKNOW University of Kentucky News

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 11th-consecutive season, the No. 24 Kentucky Wildcats will compete in the NCAA tournament, traveling to Columbus, Ohio, for the first round with a match against American University, the 2015 Patriot League champions. The winner will face either Ohio State or Robert Morris in the second round for the right to advance to the Lexington Region Dec. 11-12.

Kentucky and American will face off at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday. The Wildcats and Eagles have only faced one another once in the past, in which Kentucky fell in five sets in 2004. Ticket information and additional details regarding live stats, video and audio will be announced later this week.

“We’ve got a really competitive group here,” 11th-year head coach Craig Skinner said. “I feel like we’ve really ironed out some things the past few weeks in practice and we’ve got some momentum. They know it’s a long season and heading into the post season I think that they’re refreshed and ready to go.”

The Wildcats will travel to host Ohio State, an at-large bid from the BIG Ten and the No. 12 overall seed in the tournament. UK has an all-time record against the Buckeyes of 5-7, with the last meeting ending in a four-set loss in the second round of the 2014 NCAA tournament.

UK has never played Robert Morris, the winners of the Northeast Conference, in volleyball.

With the appearance, Kentucky reaches the NCAA tournament for the 17th time in program history. UK has advanced to the field of 64 in all 11 seasons under the direction of Skinner. UK joins Colorado State, Florida, Hawai’i, Nebraska, Penn State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas and Washington as the only other programs to advance to the tournament in each of the past 11 seasons.

The tournament berth provides a special opportunity, as Kentucky’s Memorial Coliseum will play host to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 11-12. UK is one of four sites selected for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups with one team advancing to the Final Four in Omaha, Neb. from the Lexington Region. This marks the third time in five seasons Memorial Coliseum will host this premier volleyball event.

The trip to the tournament adds on to the list of recent successes by the Wildcat program. The team has won at least 17 matches in each of the past 11 seasons, with the team reaching the 20-win mark in eight of the past nine years.

The Wildcats finish the regular season leading the conference in blocks per set and ranking second in opponent hitting percentage while ranking No. 19 in the nation in blocks per set. Additionally, sophomore middle Kaz Brown ranks No. 2 in the nation in blocks per set and third nationally in total blocks.

UK boasts four players who earned All-Southeastern conference recognition this season in senior Morgan Bergren, Brown and classmate Ashley Dusek and freshman Brooke Morgan. Dusek headlined the group, earning SEC Libero of the Year and being named to the All-SEC team. Brown and Bergren both were named to the All-SEC team, while Morgan made the SEC All-Freshman team. With the distinctions, Kentucky has now won five of the last six Libero of the Year awards and has placed at least one person on the All-Freshmen team in 11-straight seasons.

    First Rail

One of the most experienced rail operators in the UK and the only one to run every sort of railway – long distance, regional, commuter and sleeper operations – we carried 280m passengers in 2014/15.

We operate two UK rail franchises – Great Western Railway (GWR) and First TransPennine Express – and one open access passenger rail service – First Hull Trains. We also operate the Tramlink service on behalf of Transport for London and the Heathrow Connect service with Heathrow Airport.

As one of the most experienced operators in the UK, we are uniquely positioned to work with our partners to add value and improve services. Since 2005 our franchises have received more than 250 awards, including Great Western Railway, the current Rail Business of the Year, highlighting work done in partnership with Network Rail to keep the west moving after unprecedented flood damage in 2014; and for the Building a Greater West marketing campaign. First TransPennine Express has recently been awarded Investors in People Gold status and in 2014 became the first rail company to win the British Quality Foundation UK Excellence Award.

We have proposed and delivered over 650m capital investment into our franchises since 2006. Since we began running rail operations, we have introduced more than 740 additional vehicles across our various franchises, which has also led to the creation of new depot facilities and jobs.

Even through the recession our rail services have delivered growth. For example, at First TransPennine Express passenger levels have doubled since 2004 cutting taxpayer subsidy as a proportion of passenger revenue as a result. We are embracing new technology to enhance the customer experience. The customer app for our operating companies has been downloaded more than one million times; we are working with councils to introduce smart ticketing and we have led one of the largest roll outs of free Wi-Fi on the UK rail network. In 2014 FirstGroup gave train passengers the first ever opportunity to earn Nectar points when booking their journeys online with a UK rail operator.

Across all our operations, we are working in partnership with industry partners and local stakeholders to provide better rail services, keep people moving and communities prospering across the country.

We have a great track record in rail that has proven successful through different generations of rail franchising and across a range of passenger rail operations. We remain committed to retaining a leading position in the thriving UK rail market which has seen spectacular growth thanks to privatisation, far outstripping economic growth. The UK rail network s performance is unmatched in other sectors and is the envy of Europe, with higher passenger kilometres travelled and passenger satisfaction scores than Germany, Holland or France.

    Key facts

280 million passengers in 2014/15 2,800 diesel and electric rolling stock vehicles 585 stations operated by FirstGroup Around 8bn passenger miles travelled last year

    Great Western Railway (GWR)

GWR provides high speed, commuter, regional and branch line train services, carrying more than 103 million passengers every year across the Great Western rail franchise area, which includes South Wales, the Westcountry, the Cotswolds, and large parts of Southern England.

We will run the franchise until at least April 2019, bringing our experience of managing the route over many years to ensure the successful delivery of the major programme of infrastructure upgrades on the network. The 7.5bn Great Western Mainline modernisation programme is the biggest investment on the route since Brunel. During this time we are introducing new or refurbished trains on every part of the network meaning additional and more frequent services, reduced journey times and more seats, particularly on key commuter routes.

Click here for more information about GWR

    First TransPennine Express

First TransPennine Express provides vital connections between key cities in the North of England and Scotland, helping to create the Northern Powerhouse, as part of a national investment of more than 1bn in the North s railways.

First TransPennine Express operates inter-city services on three main routes:

North TransPennine – including Newcastle to Manchester Airport, Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport, Scarborough to Liverpool and Hull to Manchester Piccadilly

South TransPennine from Cleethorpes via Doncaster and Sheffield to Manchester Airport

North West and Scotland from Windermere, Barrow in Furness and Blackpool North via Preston and Bolton to Manchester Airport; Edinburgh, Glasgow, Carlisle, Penrith and Oxenholme to Manchester Airport

We will run the franchise until April 2016 and during this time we are bringing in new trains which will provide 700 additional seats between York and Liverpool every day. We are pleased to have been shortlisted to bid for the new TransPennine Express franchise, and will submit a proposal to deliver significant improvements for customers and value for money for the taxpayer.

    First Hull Trains

Our open access operation, First Hull Trains, is consistently one of the UK s most popular train companies, according to independent surveys. Since we started services in 2000 First Hull Trains has filled a vital gap in the market, making 90 journeys a week between London, Hull and intermediate stations, and transporting more than 800,000 people annually a ten-fold increase since inception. We are proud to support Hull s status as the UK s City of Culture 2017.

    Recommended Reviews

This is my second review for First Class Travel, and the second time Donna at First Class Travel has come through for me.  First, let me say that I travel more than the average person. (Twice a year I leave the country for a month at a time.)  Like many people today, I plan out most of my trips myself, and mostly book my own flights and accommodations on line.  However, when I want to put together an itinerary for a trip that is more complicated than most I have found that Donna has not only made it easy, but has saved me money as well.

I was planning a month long trip to the Philippines and Thailand over the holiday season.  Since I had never been to these two countries, I was making up my trip as I went along.  For this trip, the only thing I really knew were the dates that I wanted to fly.  I tried finding two separate flights, or book flights to two destinations on line but it was a bit harder than I thought.  In addition, the flights I was looking at on line were not convenient and were more expensive than what I expected.  After spending several hours over several days trying to get the flights that I wanted on line, I realized it was time to call Donna.

Donna remembered me even though I hadn t used her services for over two years.  Donna s knowledge of airlines and flight schedules and her ability to combine flight made it possible for me to get the schedules I wanted at fares that were reasonable for the holiday season.  In addition to that, I estimated that even with her fee, she saved me a few hundred dollars compared to what I would have paid if I tried to book the same flights myself on line.  Donna also sold me trip insurance that would reimburse me if I needed to cancel my trip for any reason.  This is important to me because unfortunately things do happen in life.

If your travel plans are not run of the mill (like a trip that involves multiple destinations on several flight) I would suggest using Donna at First Class Travel.  She will save you time and aggravation.

7 Travel Tips For The First Time Thailand Traveler #how #to

    #travel to thailand
    #

So you have decided to finally travel to Thailand.  Good for you!  However, you have these questions rolling around in your head of how the trip will go and what you will have to experience when you first get there.  I was in your shoes once myself when I finally decided to go there solo and I was a little apprehensive at first; but I decided why not, I m going!   Do Thai people speak English I wondered?  Yes, a lot of them do in Bangkok and other major areas foreigners travel to; however, if you venture into some areas not frequented by westerners, especially the rural areas, there s a good chance they don t.  No worries!  You will find that Thai people are very warm and friendly toward you and they are more than willing to help you out.  You ll also notice that Thai people smile a lot too; hence the nickname The Land of Smiles .  I had no guidance of what to expect when I first arrived in Thailand except that I would fall in love with her ; and I did.

I have put together for you, New Thailand Traveler , a rather long, and detailed. post on what to expect starting at the plane you are flying on to your arrival at your hotel or your final destination.  I have traveled to Thailand numerous times and I draw all this information from my own experiences over the years. I wanted to share this information with you, the first time visitor, to try and put your mind at ease.  From there; Thailand is yours to explore and enjoy.

    Hotels

    1. Best to book your hotel reservation online.  You will definitely save money and you can do this  even if you are still a guest of the hotel and want to stay another night.  Try talking to the reception desk staff first and see if you can get the same rate you were happy with for your first reservation.  I was told by a hotel staffer at a recent hotel stay that it would be cheaper to reserve again online .  I thought that was pretty nice of her so I did from our room and it was a lot cheaper than what she quoted me.
    2. I don t recommend you try the tourism desks at Suvarnabhumi airport.  It usually costs more than what you can find online and sometimes they say no rooms are available at a hotel you may inquire about.  If you are returning to a particular hotel and you find they have no rooms when you contact them by email, call and tell them you stayed there before and you really would love to stay there again.  Somehow a room may become available and MAYBE with a free upgrade!    The Montien Riverside Hotel did that for me and that was pre-starting my travel blog.  That s why I did a free write up on them because they have always been very helpful and I have enjoyed our stays there.  Make sure you let your hotel know if you will be checking in late because of your flight arrival time too.  It can t hurt.
    • Cell Phone

    1. Do you have an unlocked GSM phone?  There are carriers with prepaid SIMM cards at the airport on the same floor you came out of Customs onto.  I like AIS 1-2-Call because I believe their reception is better.  It s a good idea to have for your hotel number, etc. with you if you get lost not on purpose .    You can call them and they can talk to the driver for you.  Using internet and other data services in Thailand on prepaid mobile  service is VERY expensive;  just an FYI.  Turn off any data pushes and data services when you don t need them.  SMS service isn t too bad.
    • ATM s

    1. I have never had any problems with ATM s in Thailand; knock wood .  They have several ATM s at the airport as well as currency exchanges.  MAKE SURE you contact your bank / credit card company before you leave home and let them know when and where you will be going and how long you are going for so they don t put a STOP on your cards when you try to use them in Thailand.  This is VERY important.  Even if you do notify them, don t be surprised if they still deny a charge or ATM transaction and you will unfortunately have to call them.  UGH. I am relaying experience here.  That s why I have SKYPE.
    2. As of today, one USD is equivalent to 30.98 THB; one British pound is equivalent to 50.17 THB.  Remember your bank(s) may charge an international transaction fee for shopping with credit cards and debit cards; to include ATM withdrawals. There may also be fees charged by some of the Thai banks ATM s you use as well.
    3. You can always check my website for the latest money exchange rate.  This rate may be a little more than what you will actually receive at a money exchange due to the exchanges fees and exchange rates.  It should be close though.

Travel Tips For New Thailand Travelers.  Although this post may be long and detailed, it should get you to your first destination, or hotel, upon your arrival.  My first trip to Thailand was solo and I remember opening the drapes of my room on the 18th floor of my hotel, looking out at Bangkok and thinking What have I gotten myself into?!  Bangkok is huge to say the least, but there are a lot of places to explore while there so keep that in mind.  Now it s time to figure out what you will see and do now that your there. Be sure you check out the new ASIATIQUE THE RIVERFRONT shopping area.
