How to Recover Data from Failed Raid 1? #recover #data #from

Restore Data from Failed Raid 1

RAID 1 also known as Disk mirroring, is the replication of data to two or more disks. It is good option for applications that require high performance such as transactional applications, email and operating systems. While using RAID 1, an exact copy of data is created on two or more discs. This technique will give more reliability and read performance. The only issue is storage capacity (the total storage used by RAID 1 will be equal to capacity of the smallest disk).

However, RAID users may struggle a lot if data gets inaccessible due to Raid 1 drive failure. Let us know in which situations Raid 1 drive get failed on a Windows computer:

  • Occurrence of more number of bad sectors on hard disk may result in raid 1 drive failure
  • If you do any mistake while changing file system, then RAID 1 drive may fail to work further
  • OS crash is the other common reason for failure of RAID 1 drive
  • Failure of RAID technology can also make drive unreadable and useless

Once the RAID 1 drive gets failed it will show different kind of error messages like:

  • Storecenter disk failure
  • Critical error on RAID 1 drive
  • Failed hard drive: RAID1

In case, you come across above mentioned errors, then how will you solve them? How will you get back data from failed RAID 1 drive? Dont worry you can easily recover failed raid 5 array. raid 10 and raid 0 by using proficient data recovery program.

INCOME FROM HOME-BASED TRAVEL AGENCY – Travel Agent Jobs #travel #tips

#home based travel agent

Athena in Fairfield, California

VOA in Ottawa, Ontario said: PLEASE CAN SOMEONE IN CANADA OR the U.S. PLEASE TELL ME APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH ONE CAN MAKE AS HOME-BASED TRAVEL AGENT? PLEASEEEEEE HELP! I really interested in this but I would like to know if it is worth it. I like traveling myself.

Hey, I see no one has responded to you, which is wrong. I went to college and earned 3 certificates in Travel in 2008. I started a home-based business through a host agency for a brief time. If you have a good host agency that is legit, and that pays a good commission split (with low fees), and that has good training and a good reputation, you could do o.k. But, you have to hustle to find your business, and you are in competition with the internet. None of these agencies give you leads, the only one I know is American Express, and you have to have sold approx. $100,000 dollars worth of travel in order to work with them. However, if you find a niche, and a good agency, it is worthwhile because you can travel with FAM trips, and get diccounted travel.

Look on NACTA to find a certified, bonified host agency. Check everything out to see which one suits you, and call them to see how they represent themselves on the phone.

Blessings, keep me posted; happy holidays.

Mysql can t create #restoring #possible #half #written #data #pages #from

01-09-2008 07:14 PM

Mysql can’t create/write to

Ok. having some issues with getting Mysql up and running.
the system..
PII box with 512 ram
Fedora 7 (Moonshine)
Mysql-5.0.45-linux-i686 (that is the build I downloaded.

Everytime I try to run the mysqld_safe script I get
nohub: ignoring input and redirecting stderr to stdout
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/

Now after extensive searching through the data bases here I ended up in /var/log/mysqld.log.
Now I see when I started the server each time and what happened. Each time mysqld started, I get a database was not shut down properly, then a bunch a stuff about restoring half written pages, apply batch of log records, progress in percents followed by a bunch of numbers 3-99, apply batch completed (everything up till this point I am not too worried about because I think that the next 2 lines explains why the data base was not shut down properly.
[ERROR] /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: can’t create/write to file ‘/var/run/mysqld/’ (Errcode: 2)
[ERROR] Can’t start server; can’t create PID file no such file or directory.
mysqld ended

(I assume that the 080108 and time stamps were not important so have eliminated them.)

When I look for /var/run/mysqld/ it does not exist at all, nor does the directory /var/run/mysqld.

Now does this mean I missed something in the install process, or is there a setting somewhere that I have wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I hope this was the right forum to put this in (it was either this one or the server forum, hopefully a mod will move if it should be in the server forum to prevent me from double posting. thanks.)

No if you did it as root, you wont get permission denied, that don’t happen to root.

And I’m sorry, somehow I missed this when I first read it, but by all means if you don’t have the /var/run/mysqld directory, go ahead and create it, and make sure mysql.mysql owns it. That does in fact seem to be what its complaining about.

USA insider information

Things to do in America

  • New York is a Mecca for shoppers, from mega-department and fashion stores to cutting-edge designer boutiques. Serious shoppers can maximize their time by taking a tour of one of the shopping districts. Shop Gotham’s two-hour walking tours (from about US$25) have been likened to having a shopaholic New Yorker show you the coolest places to shop.
  • Get a culture fix at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, which presents an annual program of mostly free recitals and concerts by students, faculty and guest artists.
  • Orlando’s majestic Harry P. Leu Gardens are a 20-hectare botanical oasis in the middle of the city. On site is a restored 19th century farmhouse, now a museum that evokes a time when citrus, rather than theme parks, dominated the region. (Gardens open daily from 9am-5pm; adult/child US$7/2; free admission on Mondays).
  • In Las Vegas start the day with an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast at the “killer whale in a sea of buffets” – at the Spice Market Buffet at the Aladdin Resort & Casino.
  • Take a historic musical journey along the Blues Highway, from the Dixieland Jazz bars of New Orleans, to Memphis (and Elvis’s Graceland) and the blues trail along the Mississippi Delta to Chicago. The classic road trip takes you through the home of the blues. For information on festivals and events along the way, check out .

How much do you tip in America?

  • Between 15 and 20 per cent is standard in the US. Irate waiters have been known to follow non-tipping diners onto the street demanding an explanation.

Best Days Of The Week To Book Airfare, From Jeanenne Tornatore

Best Days Of The Week To Book Airfare, From Jeanenne Tornatore (VIDEO)

Orbitz Travel Expert Jeanenne Tornatore shared a few handy tips on when to book airfare for the cheapest rates possible.

“When you’re looking at when to book, earlier in the week can be better, since a lot of airlines put their fare sales out earlier in the week,” she explained, suggesting Tuesday and Wednesday as the most cost-effective days to book flights.

If you know you will be traveling during the busy summer season, Jeanenne recommends booking farther in advance, especially for popular destinations.

“Fare prices go up as flights get fuller, and some of them will get booked to capacity during the busier summer months,” she told us.

As far as specific time of day, Jeanenne told us that some people believe midnight is the best time, as some companies upload their most recent options at that time.

“I personally don’t stay up that late!” she laughed, “but if you’re looking for a deal, try midnight.”

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa – BBC

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa

21 August 2014

Image caption Kenya has not reported any cases of Ebola, but is a common transit point for African travellers

South Africa says non-citizens arriving from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa will not be allowed into the country, with borders closed to people from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

All non-essential outgoing travel to the affected countries has been banned.

Senegal also said it was suspending flights with Ebola-affected countries, and closing the border with Guinea.

Cameroon and the Ivory Coast earlier imposed travel bans, despite World Health Organization warnings not to.

South African nationals will be allowed to re-enter the country when returning from high-risk countries, but will undergo strict screening, the health ministry said on Thursday.

Usual screening procedures are in place for those who travel between Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, which have been defined as medium-risk countries.

Image caption Nigeria stepped up its airport screening procedures after a number of Ebola cases were confirmed

South Africa has experienced two Ebola scares in recent weeks, involving passengers arriving from Liberia and Guinea, but the country has so far remained Ebola-free.

Johannesburg has one of the major transit airports, connecting southern Africa with the rest of the continent. Several airlines, including British Airways and Emirates Airlines, have stopped flights to some of the affected countries.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s interior ministry announced on Friday it was closing the land borders with Guinea “once again”.

Senegal shut its border with Guinea for the first time in March after the virus reached the capital Conakry.

In a statement, it said this extends to “air and sea borders for aircraft and ships from the Republic of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia”.

AU team

Separately, the African Union (AU) announced plans to send a special team to the four affected countries.

The six-month-long operation, involving volunteer doctors, nurses and medical personnel, will cost about $25m (£15m) and begin immediately, the AU said in a statement.

Aid workers and medical staff are most exposed to the virus, and have been most at risk of becoming infected. Two US aid workers were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, after recovering from the virus they contracted in Liberia.

The supply of the experimental drug used to treat the couple, ZMapp, has been exhausted.

As Ebola has no known cure, it is being controlled by isolating victims and those who have come into contact with them.

Liberia’s attempt to prevent the spread of the virus by imposing quarantines has led to unrest .

How to Mail Merge Address Labels Using Excel and Word: 14

How to Mail Merge Address Labels Using Excel and Word

Learning to use Mail Merge in Microsoft Word can be a daunting task if you’re trying to use Microsoft Help. We’ll outline a much more linear process — creating an address file in Excel, merging in Word, and adding intents and finer details. This simple process can save you hours of fussing around with labels, ensuring you don’t resort to handwriting them later!

Note: This is for Office 2003; instructions for other versions may vary.

Steps Edit

Create an address file in Microsoft Excel by inserting names and addresses in the following manner:

Row 1 should have the headings before you start to add the addresses from row 2 onwards

  • Place the first names in Column A.
  • Place the last names in Column B.
  • Place the street addresses in Column C.
  • Place the cities or towns in Column D.
  • Place the county in Column E.
  • Place the postal codes in Column F.
  • Save the file. Remember the location and name of the file.
  • Close Excel.

Open Word and go to “Tools/Letters” and “Mailings/Mail Merge”.

  • If the Task Pane is not open on the right side of the screen, go to View/Task Pane and click on it. The Task Pane should appear.

Fill the Labels radio button In the Task Pane.

Click on Label Options and choose the label you are using from the list. Click OK once you have chosen.

Click on Next: “Select Recipients”.

Click on “Browse” and browse to the file you just saved in Excel and saved in My Documents. Open this file and a dialog box will open. All recipients should be selected by default. If not, do so and click OK.

Click on Next: “Arrange your labels”.

Click on “More items.. ” Leave Database fields (top right) selected and click on the fields you want inserted. Click on them in the order they will appear on the label. This is normally First Name, Last Name, Street Address, City, county, Postal code. Ignore the fact that they all end up on a single line, when you’re done selecting you can add spaces and carriage returns where you want them on the label. When you have all fields inserted click OK. If you forget one place the cursor where you want it to go (the field to the right of the cursor will probably turn gray—that’s OK), then click on “More items. ” again and choose the field you want to add. Click CLOSE on the window once you have finished inserting all the fields you require.

Add spaces and carriage returns so the label looks correct. Ignore it when the field after the location for either one turns grey the space will be added instead of replacing the field.

We nudge the whole address slightly to the right by “increasing the indent” once. This depends on the size of the label you are using, but looks better!

  • If everything is where you want it click on Update All Labels. You should see the fields copied to all labels.

Click on Next: “Preview your labels”.

If you are satisfied click on Next: “Complete the Merge”. At this screen you can edit individual labels or print. it is worth clicking on EDIT INDIVIDUAL LABELS and clicking ALL and OK even if you are happy with it so that you can access all the pages of labels.

  • Save the file before you do anything else!

You can also use commercial online tools to perform your mail merge to create labels. The advantage is that they can be easier and quicker to use.

A strict no-standing policy means you won’t be fighting for elbow room at the bar. Sit back and take in the ambience, but be sure you make a reservation beforehand.

The name is a play on words of the name of the surrounding neighborhood, Adams Morgan, and demonstrates the bar’s eclectic, diverse and fun-loving clientele.

Just drop us a line with what you are looking for and we will get back to you with a quote. Remember though, the cheapest tickets to Pakistan are usually time sensitive offers and availability changes constantly.

Whatever your air travel requirements are, the team here at Tickets to Pakistan is here to help!

How to get

Getting to Pakistan is easier than it ever has been with many major airlines serving cities in Pakistan directly or via hubs in Europe, Asia or the Middle East. If time is an issue, you might of course want to consider taking a direct flight with Pak International Airlines. As with most destinations, generally the more flexible you are, the better and lower the price will be.

There are numerous airlines all with their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of connection times, choice of stopover options, onboard facilities etc. Some of the main airlines include Qatar Airways (connecting via Doha), Etihad Airways (travelling via Abu Dhabi), Emirates (connecting in Dubai), Gulf Air (transiting in Bahrain), Turkish Airlines (flying via Istanbul), Oman Air (travelling through Muscat) and Uzbekistan Airways (via Tashkent).

All airlines offers a variety of timings and class of travel. Economy class fares are usually far more restrictive than those in Business or First, however, they are of course considerably cheaper. If you think you might need to make changes to your ticket, it is worth checking the terms and conditions or speaking to one of our sales advisers regarding the options.

When to go

Many people travelling to Pakistan from the UK will be going to visit friends and relatives whether for a special occasion such as Eid or Ramadan or for a wedding, birthday, family celebration or a more sombre occasion such as a funeral. If this is the case, then circumstances will naturally dictate when you need to fly. Even if your dates are fixed, however, there are ways to save on your flight tickets if you can be flexible a day or two either side of your preferred dates.

Our search engine or sales advisers can assist you with this. If you are travelling to Pakistan for a holiday then when to go will depend on how you like your weather and what part of the country that you are travelling to. The south side (including the cities of Karachi and Lahore) gets very hot and humid during the summer months and daytime temperatures can be well in excess of 40C. That is of course great if you like heat but not ideal for sightseeing. It is probably also worth avoiding the monsoon season of July and August unless you have a good umbrella and plenty of waterproof clothing! In contrast, the north is usually cooler than the south and indeed can be very cold in the mountainous areas during the winter months. Consequently if you are heading to the northern part of the country, it may be worth considering planning your trip for the pleasant spring and warmer summer times.

What to do

Pakistan is a fascinating country with a rich history, culture and friendly, welcoming people. Just about wherever you go in Pakistan you will find a wealth of things to do and places to visit. From trekking in the mountainous northern regions to sightseeing in the cities of the south, we will give you some pointers below on how to make the most out of your stay.

For the adventurous types, northern region is a very special place and affords fabulous outdoor and trekking opportunities. It has been estimated that in the Himalayas, Karakoram and Pamirs mountains, there are over a hundred mountains at 7000m metres or higher. Many of these are in or visible from northern region.

If sightseeing is your thing, the south of the country offers a wide diversity of activities to ensure you have a fun-packed stay. The city of Rawalpindi just south of Islamabad offers a glimpse into traditional Pakistani life with bazaars and great examples of regional architecture. Islamabad itself has plenty to offer including the Faisal Masjid Mosque which is one of the largest in the world. The National Gallery is well worth checking out too as it has displays of many important national and regional artworks.

For museum lovers, the National Museum in Karachi is a must. Also in Karachi is the impressive mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam’s Mazar (the founder of the country).

Although it has seen its fair share of troubles in recent years due to its political significance, the region of Kashmir is simply stunning with its breathtaking mountains (including K2, the world’s second largest) and the Baltoro Glacier which is the largest glacier outside of the north and south poles.

Car Hire in Italy – Compare cheap rental deals from easyCar

    #cheapest rental cars

Search for car hire in Italy

Italy is arguably the most beautiful country on Earth; it’s certainly one which continues to attract huge numbers of holiday-makers every year, keen to experience its sights, sounds and tastes. The birthplace of modern civilisation, Italy is a country that offers huge variety, with something for everyone, whether that something is lazing by a pool or gazing at ancient mosaics.

    Things to do

Opera: when thinking about Italy, many people will have an aria running through their head, whether consciously or not, thus it’s almost a crime to visit the country that invented opera and not attend a performance. Most cities and towns will be putting on a show, but one of the greatest places on earth, let alone just in Italy, to see an opera is Verona. The city, famous for its star-cross’d lovers, is home to an ancient amphitheatre, the Arena di Verona, which is one of the most atmospheric venues. Ticket-holders can choose between plush cushioned seats or sitting on the thousand-year old steps and light candles. The Arena comes alive each summer during the Verona Opera Festival; if you’re there during this time, take the hire car and go – don’t risk missing out.

Shopping: Italy is famed for its stylish residents and haute-couture fashion houses and if shopping’s your game, then Milan’s the name. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not all Gucci, Armani and Prada, though such designers do grace the ‘golden rectangle’ shopping streets. There are also ample opportunities to pick up goods, including designer items, at lower prices as Milan also possess outlet stores. That’s providing you don’t mind being seen in last season’s trends.

People watching: Venice, with its bridges and canals is a wonderful city, one in which it’s great to do a spot of people watching in-between seeing the sights or taking a gondola cruise. Head to St Mark’s Square and stop for a hot chocolate while watching people go by. Yes, there will be a lot of tourists, but there are plenty of locals too. It’s a fascinating pastime, even better in February, during the Venice Carnival. This annual event sees people dress up in masks and elaborate costumes, parading the streets without a car in the world. Sit back and drink it all in.

Architecture: while there are incredible structures all over Italy, if you’ve only got time for one architectural stop, then make it Rome. Here you will find the Colosseum, the Pantheon, St Peter’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps. the list goes on. Though many of these architectural gems are in close proximity, to see them all could take ages – in fact, to see all the sights on the movie-themed ‘Roman Holiday’ tour, you’d need to walk for several hours. Hence it might be a better use of time to brave the erratic yet exciting roads and rent a car.

Antiquity: with an exhibition on at the moment in London, you may have heard more about Pompeii and Herculaneum recently. These are the two cities that were devastated by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, but both were affected in different ways. The cities have been partly excavated and the remains are fascinating. In Pompeii are the famous casts of poor local people, caught in their death throes, whereas in Herculaneum are the ghoulish boat sheds that contain numerous skeletal remains. However, the ruins of these cities give an interesting insight into how these poor people lived and a visit is far more about celebrating their life than their unfortunate demise.

    Further afield

If Italy is a boot, then Sicily is the football that the boot is kicking, situated off the southern-most tip. It is a large island – again, it would make sense to explore with a hire car, rather than rely on public transport – with its own culture and language, distinct from Italian (though today Italian dominates).

It is perhaps best well-known as the home of Mount Etna, but fans of Italian detective fiction will recognise it from the ‘Inspector Montalbano’ series. There is a lot to see and do aside from the beaches; Sicily boasts several archaeological sites, temples and castles. There is a heavy Greek influence, which is evident in its art and architecture – such as the Greek Theatre in Taormina. In truth, most of the island’s attractions are on the cultural side, but there is a number of good restaurants, bars and clubs in Palermo, Catania and Taormina.

Water Damage Mold To Find and Get Rid Of Mold #water

    Water Damage Mold

You may notice some water damage mold growing in a damp area where you had a leaky pipe under the kitchen sink or a leaky roof. The mold from water leak is unsightly, but did you realize it can also be hazardous to your health? It can. Mold has been associated with a wide range of symptoms, some severe.

Symptoms associated with mold from water leak include upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinus infections, increased susceptibility to colds, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, sore throat, headache, fatigue, trouble sleeping, dizziness, depression and difficulty concentrating. People that have asthma often experience an increase in symptoms and occasionally someone not previously diagnosed with the condition develops asthma after exposure to mold from a water leak. Small children, the elderly, those with respiratory problems like emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and those with compromised immune systems (conditions like HIV and AIDS) are at greater risk for symptoms but anyone living in home with water damage mold can be affected.

Signs of Mold from Water Leak

Signs of mold from water leak include visible mold, usually black or gray in color, either patchy or streaky, and the mold from water leak usually looks slimy. You may also notice peeling paint, water stains on walls or ceilings, buckled drywall or buckled shelves under your kitchen or bathroom sinks, and a musty smell. While you can probably determine for yourself that you have a problem with water damage mold, it’s hard to determine what type of mold you’re dealing with, which makes it hard to know exactly what health risks you’re facing or the best way to clean it up.

This basement was flooded, and the water eventually caused mold to grow. The house was uninhabitable until the mold was removed.

    Cleaning Up Mold Damage

The first step to cleaning up mold from water leak is to fix the leak. You may then need to install a dehumidifier for a time to dry up all the excess moisture. It’s recommended that you seal off the affected area as best as you can so that mold spores don’t travel to other areas of your home during the cleanup. Some people try to clean up toxic mold with soap and water, household bleach and water, or hydrogen peroxide, but we recommended a commercial disinfectant designed for that purpose. You’ll gain the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re killing any toxic mold and you won’t have to repeat the cleanup multiple times before the job is done.

While many nonporous surfaces can be cleaned, some porous items may have to be discarded. It depends on the severity of the mold damage. Dispose of damaged items sealed in heavy plastic bags.

Cleanup has been successful when there is no visible mold on surfaces and no traces of mold spores in the air. Physical symptoms of exposure to toxic mold should clear up quickly after a thorough cleanup has been completed.

    Getting Professional Help

We suggest you call in a professional if you have water damage mold in your home. You can get a list of Licensed Professionals in your area by following the link. A professional will visit your home to conduct a free assessment of the damage, give you some free advice about cleaning up the mold and present you with a free estimate of how much it will cost to have the mold professionally cleaned up. It can be a difficult thing to deal with on your own and with your own health and the health of your family at risk, we really encourage you to at least consult with a qualified professional before deciding how to address your mold problem.

Getting from Portland to Seattle (and return) #guatemala #travel

    #portland travel

Getting from Portland to Seattle (and return)

Seattle is like Portland s grown up big sister, and a must on any Northwest itinerary. Famous for its space needle, 90s grunge rock, Pike Place market, Microsoft, and the home of Starbucks, Seattle is a great city to get the Northwest big city experience. Although the best way to visit the downtown area is on foot, the surrounding areas are quite spread out and easier to visit by car, so you might want to make it a Seattle road trip. Here are your options to get from Portland to Seattle and vice versa.

    By Plane

Seattle s International airport (SEA), most often referred to as Sea-Tac is about 14 miles from downtown. The flight from Portland takes about 45 minutes and is served by Alaska Airlines, United, Continental, and SeaPort Airlines (who fly into Boeing Field instead of Sea-Tac). Depending on when you buy your ticket, you can fly roundtrip for as low as $140 per person.

    By Train: Amtrak

The Amtrak Cascade line that runs up and down the west coast departs Portland four times per day, between about 8am and 6pm. The southbound Cascade line from Seattle to Portland runs between 7am and 6pm. One-way coach fare is priced from about $31, depending on your departure time and day of travel.

The schedule and prices for the Amtrak Cascade line are fairly consistent, although not always on time. The Cascade line also has wifi. The train arrives in Seattle at King Street Station right in downtown which also happens to be right near the Washington State ferry docks (serving Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Vashon Island, and West Seattle). If you are continuing your journey, the Amtrak Cascades line extends all the way to Vancouver, BC. See the map below for the Amtrak station locations in Portland and Seattle.

    By Bus

Bus service between Portland and Seattle is run by Greyhound and Amtrak. They depart from the Greyhound station at Amtrak s Union Station in Portland. The route takes about four hours, with stops being made in several places along the I5 corridor. Prices range from $28-45, so it s definitely worth comparing the schedule and prices with the train.

How to Travel From England to Ireland #flight #cheap #tickets

    #travel to ireland

How to Travel From England to Ireland

Most travelers from England to Ireland arrive in Dublin, the nation’s largest city. (Photo: Stockbyte/Stockbyte/Getty Images )

    Related Articles

    By Ferry

    Step 1

Plan ahead. Ferry schedules change seasonally, and frequently change from published schedules with little notice or forewarning. Check with the port that you are planning to leave from for the most up-to-date information. Additionally, ferries during the summer months can be crowded and can sell out quickly. Purchase your tickets ahead of time to avoid any hassle.

Take the ferry. Ferries across the Irish Sea generally tend to serve the cities that are geographically closest to one another. Liverpool offers ferries to Dublin; Stranraer has ferries to Belfast; and Fishguard, Holyhead and Plymouth have ferries to County Cork in the southern part of Ireland. Car ferries are available if you’d like to take your own vehicle across the water. Trips take between one and 10 hours, depending on your point of origin and destination.

    By Air

    Step 1

Buy tickets. Tickets can be booked through the airlines, on the Internet or through travel agents. Additionally, England allows airlines to sell their unused tickets to consolidators or “bucket shops,” which in turn re-sell them to travelers at much lower prices.

Fly to Ireland. Flights between England and Ireland generally last between one and two hours, depending on where you’re going. UK and European Union citizens only need a photo I.D. to enter Ireland; everyone else must have a valid passport.

Tool for finding cheap flights from departure city without entering destination

Not exactly a mileage run question, but I think this is the most appropriate place.

Is there a website I can use to find the least expensive flights from a departure city on a specific date? For example, if I want to see all the cheap flights departing from Boston next Friday so I can determine if any of them are warm and worth going to, is there a tool I can use?

I was using FareCompare like a different thread suggests, but I cannot figure out to use specific dates.

I also tried using Expedia s dream tracker, but all the pop ups on the map are a big pain in the butt.

I ve been hesitant to post this on Flyer Talk because I m sure it s answered someplace and I did not want snarky use the search responses. However, their forum search is not a great tool when they are so many posts.

Here are some of the recommendations:

Great for constructing a mileage run, but not (yet) friendly for just finding cheap flights for a quick getaway:

Traveling Solo In Europe: Tips For Getting The Most From Traveling

    #traveling europe

Traveling Solo In Europe: Tips For Getting The Most From Traveling Alone

My first backpacking trip in Europe was a solo adventure. I was a little worried at first, but I soon found that traveling alone was one of the best things I d ever done. While it did have some downsides, I still wholeheartedly endorse solo traveling to anyone (males and females). This guide will cover the positives and the negatives of traveling Europe alone and give you some practical advice on how to make the most of your travels.

    Positive Aspects of Solo Travel

Complete Control: When you travel alone you can do whatever you want. You can eat whenever, see whatever, and go wherever you want. You can t fully appreciate this freedom until you travel with other people.

Food Freedom: From my experience, choosing where to eat can cause more stress than just about anything else especially when you re traveling with a group of people. When you travel alone you can choose exactly where to eat. Also, many restaurants in Europe won t split up the bill so paying become a huge hassle in large groups.

Choose Your Itinerary: You can do the things you want to do. You don t need to answer to anyone else. In a group everyone has their own ideas of what to see and this can cause a lot of conflict.

No Arguments: You re bound to get into arguments or even fights with your travel partners. Travel can be stressful and you usually take out your frustration on your travel partners. I find that I get a lot less stressed when I am alone.

Total Focus: There is no one to distract you. You re totally focused on whatever it is you re experiencing.

Reinvent Yourself: You can be whoever you want to be when you travel alone. This is your chance to let loose.

Meet New People: I meet a lot more people when I travel alone. Groups tend, usually unknowingly, to put up a wall between themselves and other travelers, so this makes groups not as approachable. You also have an instant connection with other solo travelers yes, there are plenty of other solo travelers.

Self-Growth: You have no one but yourself to rely on when you re a solo traveler. You quickly learn to be self reliant and I think that makes you a stronger person.

    Disadvantages of Solo Backpacking

Eating Alone: Many people feel really uncomfortable eating alone especially in restaurants. It isn t bad for breakfast and lunch, but dinners do get a little lonely. It really isn t that bad and it isn t too hard to find other people to eat with.

Unwanted Isolation: Staying in hostels is great because there are almost always tons of other people around to hang out with. But there will be times where you ll find yourself alone.

I remember my very first night of solo traveling. I was in Dublin and the hostel was overrun by a large group of Spanish students. There must have been about 40 of them. I didn t meet any English speakers that first night so it was pretty lonely. I was also a new traveler so I was pretty timid. Luckily, occasions like this were pretty rare.

No Buddy System : It can be nice to have a buddy to share your memories with and to help keep each other safe. Although I wouldn t worry too much about safety because I never felt unsafe in Europe. A little common sense is all you need.

    How To Successfully Travel Alone

Stay In Hostels: This is the most important thing for any solo traveler. Hostels are full of like-minded adventurers and most of them are extremely willing to meet new people.

Be Friendly and Outgoing: Smile and be the first person to introduce themselves. If someone new arrives at the hostel greet them. An introverted solo traveler can have a rough time meeting new people. I didn t do a very good job being outgoing my first few nights and I had a hard time meeting people. But after the third night I forced myself to be a little more outgoing and it opened up so many doors.

Beer: Buy some cheep beer and offer it to people. You ll meet TONS of people this way. People will often do the same for you.

Cook Meals In The Hostel: You ll meet so many people if you hang out in the kitchen around dinner time.

Hostel Planned Activities: Many hostels plan outings like free walking tours or pub crawls.

Safety First: Use your common sense. It probably isn t the best idea to walk around large cities at night by yourself. Actually, I ve done this many times and never felt unsafe. Just be sure to stay alert. If something doesn t feel right then you shouldn t do it. Always walk with confidence and act like you ve done this a million times.

Visitors Insurance Reviews. Buy visitors insurance with confidence for your relatives

    #travel insurance reviews

You must enable java-script to continue.

Hey guys. My husband and I are half way there. We recently got his EAD and SS card so I figured I would share our experiences thus far. Please ask us any questions you want because reading this site was a HUGE help for us.

8/29/2015 – Mailed our AOS Packet to the Chicago Lockbox for packages requiring a signature

8/31/2015 – USPS tracking confirmed Delivery in hindsight I wouldn t of paid extra for faster mailing

9/8/2015 – Email confirmation of package receipt

9/14/15 – Received paper receipts by mail. Priority date Sept. 1st.

9/18/15 – Received Biometrics appointment notification by mail. Date 9/28

9/21/15 – Completed Biometrics Walk In appointment at the Jamaica, Queens Application Support Center. Came at 1:30pm and the place was pretty empty. Security guard was firm but didn t give us any real problem. He had to check with his supervisor to let us go.

For a month we received no news and no updates. We called USCIS and they said that was completely normal not to have any updates in this period and for us to expect the EAD w/i 75 days of our priority date.

    10/30/2015 – EAD/ Advanced Parole approved!

    11/4/2015 Online update EAD mailed

11/7/2015 – Received EAD in the mail

11/9/2015 – Brought EAD card and Passport to Social Security office in Mineola, NY to apply for SS card Free

11/18/2015 – Received Social Security Card in the mail

11/19/2015 – Took EAD card, Social Security Card, Passport and Bank Cards to DMV to apply for learner s permit. Approved.

Big things we worried about and what we did.

My husband came to the US on a B1/2 visa and he overstayed by 10 years. During that time he did work without authorization, got a Tax Identification number and filed taxes 2 of those years, and actually received a return. haha. On the forms we were truthful and did admit that he worked and did put down where he worked. So far so good and we haven t had any problems. We havent had our interview yet.

Form I-130 – Petition for Alien Relative

o Attach copy of petitioner s passport me, the wife

o Attach copy of marriage certificate

o Attach 1 passport photo of beneficiary and 1 passport photo of petitioner, write the name in PENCIL on back of photos and place each in a separate sandwich bag. I wrote in black marker the name of the person and what form picture belonged to on the sandwich bag.

o Attach Form G325A for Beneficiary and Form G325A for Petitioner. G325A.A.A.A.A. make sure it ends in A :

o Submit proof of bona fide marriage

We submitted APARTMENT LEASE and I made sure my landlord added my husband to the lease although she was only given financial information about myself. Be firm and just tell them its important. you don t have to explain yourself. Most will comply.

    – Photocopy of health insurance card which had my husbands name on it.

-Photocopy of credit cards that had my husbands name on it. Discovercard and JCpenney will send you a second card if you add them as an authorized user. So on the same paper we copied my husbands card and my card which had the same number on it.

    – Photocopy of joint bank statement which showed both of our names and address. Wells Fargo will open a bank account for someone without a SSN. I made sure to make deposits in his account from my bank account and pay some of our bills from his account to show a paper trail.

    – Photocopy of about 30 pictures of us together in different situations wedding, pictures of him and my mom, pictures of us doing a backyard project, pictures of him and my best friend. if you don t have a lot of pictures just start taking pictures randomly together and write a short blurb describing the pictures.

    – Place all supporting documents in a manilla envelope and label Proof of Bona Fide Marriage. Put in i-130 folder

    FOLDER 2

Form I-864 – Affidavit of support under section 213A – Make sure to include a photocopy of your ENTIRE tax return for most recent two years INCLUDING all of your W-2 or 1090 s. Since my salary changed drastically from last year to the current year I also included copies of my last 6 months pay stubs.

    FOLDER 3

Form I-485 – Adjustment of Status

o Medical examination report must be included in i-485

o Attach copy of birth certificate

o 2 passport size photos of the beneficiary. Follow the same instructions for the previous photos.

o Attach a copy of i-94, passport with all biographical data pages and visa pages copied.

Attach copy of marriage certificate which is the basis of the i-485

Form G-1145 e-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance. Put this form as the first page in the i-485 folder.

Form I-765 Application for Employment Authorization no additional fee if filed together

    Form – 131 Advanced Parole

Include 2 passport style photos of the Beneficiary. label and place in baggy as before

Form I-693 Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record separate fee paid to the civil surgeon. We paid around $130

For the medical examination. Look up all the age appropriate vaccinations that you will need. And then go to a free clinic or community sponsored clinic if you don t have insurance and get all those vaccinations or ask for a TITERS test which will prove that you already received those vaccinations and are immune. If your childhood copy is available bring it. Ask for a printed copy of the lab reports and vaccination record of all vaccinations you get. A copy of the report should be free or minimal cost. Dont say that you need the vaccinations for immigration purposes because insurance and free clinics are not allowed to provide that service just for immigration. Bring all of these records to your medical examination appointment because if you do not have these records they WILL CHARGE YOU EXTRA to do these test. A LOT EXTRA. I recommend starting the vaccination record process about 3 months before you plan to file.

Good luck guys. We are from Long Island so our interview probably won t be for a few months. Will update you about our interview.

The dry season (November to February) is the most popular time for travellers to arrive on cheap flights to Bangkok. This exotic destination where East meets West is known for its breathtaking temples, floating markets, tasty street food plus a myriad of other attractions. Cheap Flights to Dubai

    Dubai overview

    When to fly to Dubai

Winter is the peak season in Dubai, from December through March. This is when most travellers book flights to Dubai for a little retreat on one of the island’s luxury beach resorts.

Ramadan is a Muslim month of fasting and is strictly adhered to throughout the UAE. During this time it illegal to eat, drink, or smoke in public from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan takes place between mid-October and mid-November. It’s easy to find cheap flights to Dubai and discounted hotel accommodations during this time.

When your flight to Dubai arrives, you’ll be in the second-largest emirate in the seven United Arab Emirates. It has significantly grown from its modest beginnings as a seaport city to one of the world’s biggest financial centres and high-trafficked luxury beach resorts. Cheap Flights to Perth

    Perth overview

When is the best time to fly to Perth?

Perth is Western Australia’s capital and its largest city. Famous for its big open spaces, dominant skyscrapers, wine-growing and laid-back lifestyle, Perth offers a unique blend of urban and natural landscapes. Most travellers arrive on cheap flights to Perth during the summer holidays for the various events and festivals taking place. The annual Perth Festival and Swan Valley midsummer feast are just two of the popular summer events. Prices for flight tickets rise in the summer months, which can be hot but the perfect time to hit the stunning white sand beaches for a dip and watersports, or cool off in the shady national parks that border the city. Another peak holiday time is during the July school holidays, when cheap flights to Perth are harder to find.

Perth experiences nearly year round sunshine, the winters are mild with average daily temps around 15C. The majority of the rainfall occurs in the winter months with showers, gale force winds and thunderstorms prevalent. May and June are the heaviest rainfall months, so pack wet weather gear if arriving on flights to Perth during this period.

When is the best time to book a flight to Perth?

The shoulder seasons of autumn and spring are generally less busy and a nice time to visit Perth if you want to avoid the hot summer weather. Autumn though still warm enough for sailing and watersports, doesn’t have the intense heat which in February can be 40C or higher. Spring might still have the odd rain shower but the landscape blooms with wildflowers. The cheapest flights to Perth are in March, and the most expensive are in January.

How long is the flight to Perth?

Which airlines operate flights to Perth?

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Perth Airport (PER) is a busy domestic and international hub and the gateway to Western Australia. Once landing in Perth Airport you can reach the city centre, 17 km away, by taking an Airport-City Shuttle ($15 for a single journey), or the Transperth, a bus that runs to and from Domestic Terminals 3 and 4. If landing at T1 or T2, there is a free terminal transfer bus that runs to T3 and T4. Taxis are available at all terminals and a trip to the CBD costs approximately $40.

    Airlines flying to Thailand

    Thailand overview

From the hill tribes of the North, to the full moon parties on the Southern islands, there are a myriad of reasons to lure travellers to the beautiful country of Thailand. Always popular with British tourists, every year travellers flock from Thailand flights at Bangkok’s airport eager to laze on the beaches and discover the infamous nightlife.

The beaches are as stunning as promised: predominantly white sand, an abundance of palm trees, coral reefs, fish and sparklingly clear turquoise waters. There are villages, resorts and accommodation to suit every type of traveller, be it with a laid-back backpacker-vibe and plenty of cheap diving to high-end, pristine spa resorts set on private coves.  The towns are similarly diverse.

All flights to Thailand arrive in Bangkok and most travellers spend at least a few days in this bustling metropolis. Along with the notorious red light district, other famous attractions include a number of beautiful Wats (temples), the amazing street markets, where everything under the sun can be purchased at reduced prices, trips by boat along the Chao Praya River and gigantic city parks, such as Lumpini.

Chiang Mai epitomises the appeal of Northern Thailand. Set among lush rainforest and mountains, the city dates from the 13th century. Shopping and sightseeing are popular activities (there are more than 300 churches) but the town is also the perfect base from which to explore the mountainous Northern region.

    Thailand climate

The climate differs between the north and the south of the country. In northern and central Thailand, it’s hot between March to May, rainy between June and October and cool between November and February. In the south it rains intermittently year round with temperatures around 27 degrees. It rains every day in the rainy season. The monsoon season lasts from July to November.

    When to fly to Thailand

Northern Thailand’s peak tourist season is the cool season (November–February). The south’s peak season is typically March to May.

Bangkok’s peak season is November to March; prices can be twice as high as in the off season, and hotels are often fully booked.

International visitors come to Chiang Mai December through May, and Thais vacation here March through May.

November to April is Phuket’s peak season, and January to April is the best weather on Ko Samui. The island is particularly busy around Christmas and has another surge of visitors in July and August.

The rainy and monsoon seasons are the off seasons. If you don’t mind the humid and wet weather there are deals on cheap flights to Thailand to be found.

    Getting around Thailand

Thailand’s trains are comfortable, frequent, and on time; although a bit slow, it’s a great way to see the country. Thailand’s buses are very fast (don’t watch the road. ), well serviced, and air conditioned. If you’re pressed for time, catch a flight. Thailand has several regional airports, and convenient domestic flights are easy to find.

Transport in a city or resort is typically a taxi, tuk-tuk, rickshaw, pickup, or hired car and driver. Taxis are usually metered in a city; make sure the meter is turned on. Always negotiate the fare for a tuk-tuk or rickshaw before you set out.

Bangkok’s public transport can get you around town. Chiang Mai doesn’t have buses or taxis, but has lots of covered pickups (songtaos) and tuk-tuks. You can hail a songtao and their fares are reasonable. Many travellers rent motorcycles and bikes in Chiang Mai, but make sure to drive defensively.

Avoid driving in Thailand, both cars and motobikes. Thais drive on the left side of the road, usually at breakneck speeds even around blind corners, and aren’t fussy about driving laws.

    Thailand insider information

    • Thailand’s capital mixes the old with the new while maintaining its position as a modern, international city. Bangkok is perfectly attuned with its modern skyscrapers, ancient palaces and temples, and infamous nightlife. A shopper’s paradise, there’s the famed Chatuchak Weekend Market and shops with everything from handcrafts to luxury items. And the excellent cuisine is a result of Bangkok’s rich ethnic history.
    • The cultures and ethnic groups in Chiang Mai reflect Thailand’s diversity: skyscrapers surrounding the Old City, monks chanting, hill tribes selling their wares, carved teak houses, modern markets, and condominiums. This is the place to shop for high-quality handcrafts, fine antiques, huge Buddhas, and even furniture. The nightlife is equally diverse, offering the Night Bazaar, discos, lounges, and small bars.
    • Phuket (pronounced “Poo-ket”) is Thailand’s largest and most popular island. The topology alone is fascinating: rocky peninsulas, limestone cliffs, tropical forests, tranquil bays, and white-sand beaches. There’s a beach for every budget, from luxury resorts to bungalows, and Phuket is well-known for its fine seafood. The Patong nightlife is wild and has something for all tastes and inclinations.
    • Ko Samui is an international resort with the attendant comforts, nightlife, and crowds. Most visitors come to have fun and the island offers plenty of it: basking on the beaches, trekking in the hills and forests, scuba diving, parasailing, Thai boxing, sightseeing, or watching working monkeys on coconut plantations. The nightlife reverberates with discos, open-air bars, and dance parties.
    • Near Samui, Ko Pha-ngan is famous for its monthly full-moon beach party—a free party hosted by DJs. The morning after you can recuperate in a herbal sauna and relax on the beach. Popular with international travelers, Pha-ngan offers a full complement of activities from sightseeing to jungle trekking. For a more peaceful vacation, the island also has laid-back resorts.

Cuba s Travel Change: What To Expect From Airlines And Cruise

Cuba’s Travel Change: What To Expect From Airlines And Cruise Lines

    Walter Bibikow via Getty Images

NEW YORK (AP) — NEW YORK (AP) — In a story Dec. 17 about travel to Cuba, The Associated Press reported erroneously the number of Americans who were authorized to travel to Cuba last year. The number was 124,000, not 170,000.

A corrected version of the story is below:

US travel industry carefully eyeing Cuba tourism

US travel industry has been quietly looking to expand into Cuba; plans could now accelerate

    AP Business Writer

NEW YORK (AP) — Cuba was once a haven for sun-seeking American tourists. Beautiful beaches, lively casinos and late-night dancing made it the perfect getaway, only an hour’s flight from Miami.

But the Cuban revolution led by Fidel Castro and the subsequent Cold War embargo of the communist island nation put an end to that.

President Barack Obama’s announcement Wednesday of plans to re-establish diplomatic ties with Cuba doesn’t suddenly lift the ban on U.S. tourism. It does, however, give hope to airlines, hotel chains and cruise companies — all which have been quietly eyeing a removal of the travel ban — that they soon will be able to bring U.S. tourists to the Caribbean nation.

“Cuba is the largest country in the Caribbean, so there’s some exciting possibilities,” said Roger Frizzell, spokesman for Carnival Corp. He said “some infrastructure for cruising already exists in the country,” although other issues “need to be taken into consideration if this market opens up.”

A handful of international companies already operate in Cuba. For instance, Spanish hotel chain Melia has 26 properties on the island. U.S. companies, like Hilton Worldwide and Marriott International — the two largest chains by rooms — say they welcome any future opportunities to include Cuba in their rapidly growing global footprint.

“We will take our cues from the U.S. government, but look forward to opening hotels in Cuba, as companies from others countries have done already,” Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson said via an emailed statement.

While most Americans are prohibited from traveling to Cuba and spending money there, close relatives of Cubans, academics and people on accredited cultural education programs can visit. And there is a tiny, but robust business in transporting people to Cuba.

Most operators are tiny storefront travel agents in the Miami area with names like Alina’s Travel Co. and Gina’s Travel Services. Those agents then charter planes from carriers like American Airlines to transport the groups.

About 124,000 U.S. citizens flew nonstop to Cuba last year, up from 77,000 in 2012, according to the Department of Commerce.

“Once people get a glimpse of Cuba, they always want to see more,” said Katharine Bonner, a senior executive at Connecticut-based tour operator Tauck, which runs tours there under a cultural exchange license. “Americans are very curious about a country that is 90 miles off our coast but has been off limits for so long.”

It is that isolation, in part, that is so appealing. There’s no McDonalds, no Starbucks. Bonner said once travel opens, there will be a rush to see Cuba before its gets “Americanized.”

“It’s almost like a country that has been frozen in time,” she said. “There’s going to be a desire to see Cuba before it changes.”

The challenge for the industry will be to offer trips to Cuba for eager tourists without alienating anti-Castro Cuban-Americans who stay in hotels or take cruises elsewhere. Regardless, for now, senior Obama administration officials say that travel to Cuba for tourist activities will remain prohibited.

U.S. airlines have been quietly dipping their toes in Cuba’s warm waters for years.

American Airlines dominates many of the routes to Latin America with its hub in Miami. It’s run charters to Cuba for more than 15 years, according to spokeswoman Martha Pantin. It now operates 20 weekly flights from Miami to Havana, Holguin, Santa Clara and Cienfuegos and from Tampa to Havana and Holguin.

JetBlue Airways started flying Cuba charters in September 2011. It’s a very small part of the airline’s business; just three weekly flights on Airbus A320s with 50 to 80 customers, either to Havana or Santa Clara.

CEO David Barger told The Associated Press last year that the charters are a way of “just understanding what happens, if in fact there’s a normalization.”

Delta Air Lines, which operated more than 240 charter flights between October 2011 and December 2012, said it has no immediate plans to fly to Cuba. But, spokesman Anthony Black noted that “having served there through our charter operations, the groundwork has been laid for us to possibly serve the market if an opportunity becomes available.”

Airlines are granted the right to fly international routes through bilateral agreements between U.S. and foreign governments. A similar agreement would need to be reached with Cuba first. There is one dating back to 1953 — it was last updated on July 30, 1957 — that allows specific routes from New York, Washington D.C. Houston, New Orleans and the Florida cities of Miami, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

The one immediate change for licensed travelers: they will now be able to return to the U.S. with $400 in Cuban goods, including tobacco and alcohol. Limited amounts of Cuban cigars might be the new hot souvenir.

With reports from Josh Lederman in Washington D.C.
