Show >>

Travel Extras

There are so many little things to think about when travelling from the actual accommodation itself to the packing, the transfers and the flights, that’s before you even begin to get excited about the holiday or travelling you plan on partaking itself. This is why its not that uncommon for many travellers to forget to pre-book one of those little travel extras that are required for your trip but not usually included within a package holiday. This leaves them having to pay extortionate amounts locally for travel extras with items such as airport parking, car hire, and ferries all increasing the cost of a holiday by sometimes hundreds of pounds. That’s why we are here, helps you, the UK traveller by allowing you to compare all the top space providers, rental companies and ferries providers in advance and brings you a list showing the cheapest options on great value car hire, airport car parking, airport hotels, airport lounges, travel insurance and ferries, and these are all at heavily discounted pre-bookable rates. Why not it today and see how much you can save on your travel extras by using our online comparison service.

Airport Parking

When it comes to airport parking, there are plenty of choices but it can often be hard to find a trust worthy company to use. Companies pay to go top in search engines advertised results meaning they can come and go as they please. Whilst most airport parking companies are friendly and trustworthy just wanting to help you enjoy a trouble free start and end to your holiday, there is a benefit to pre-booking with someone such as, we know the market and offer impartial advice.

We can help those looking for holiday car parking be it at one of the ever popular London airports such as Heathrow and Stansted to one of the smaller sites such as Birmingham or Bristol airport. Coupled with this a number of the more modern meet and greet style services and its little wonder why customers return to us every trip for their airport parking.

Travel Insurance

Not everyone uses travel insurance, some travel with the risk of should anything unfortunate happen they could end up out of pocket, some just don’t think about it before they travel but its an important extra. By taking out your cheap travel insurance with you can be certain of a great level of cover at a great rate. You can see our travel insurance policy wordings in advance so you know the exact level of cover you are getting for your money and can make sure all is in place before you travel.

Car Hire

When looking for cheap car hire it can sometimes be hard to find reliable results, especially during the busy summer months where popular tourist destinations such as Spain can sell out of vehicles. By pre-booking in advance the rental desks will save your vehicle making sure you car is available on your arrival meaning you won’t be left disappointed and you holiday ruined due to not being able to find a rental car.

Financial Aid

Everyone seems to be feeling the pinch at the moment and its no surprise with costs increasing all over the place and for most, wages have unfortunately remained the same. That is why has created its financial help area, to help you find some of the most competitive products from the world of finance, including some of the leading providers with great offers on credit cards, loans, mortgages, bank accounts, pensions, annuities, investments, debt assistance, gas. electricity and car finance. We compare all the top operates for the products listed so you can find a competitive quote whether you are looking for a cheap loan to debt help itself and all our staff are knowledgeable in their individual areas meaning they can offer you great, helpful, independent advice.

Insurance against the Unexpected

The aim of insurance is to cover you and your possessions against the unexpected, just in case. By with the cost of insurance seeming to be ever increasing at the moment, many are finding it harder this year to allocate the needed funds to take out the cover they need and skimping on the cover. Take for instance car insurance, this year that when going to renew car insurance many are finding prices have rose even with an additional years no claims discount behind them, and instead limiting the cover in place or increasing their excess which certainly helps in the short term but what happens if the unexpected happens? Another big bill to pay! That’s why its important to shop around when looking for any type insurance cover be it cheap car insurance, home insurance or even income protection insurance to find the cheapest quotes. By using the comparison service you can allow us to do all the hard work for you, we compare the top providers to help bring you some of the most competitive rates on the market and a number of insurance policies for all sorts of cover. So regardless of whether you are looking for car insurance, motorbike insurance, pet insurance, health insurance, van insurance, life insurance, travel insurance, home insurance, income protection, gadget insurance or even breakdown cover we have plenty of options you will find some of the best quotes around with ourselves.

The comparison site allows you to save money on a number of different services and we have developed a vast amount of knowledge and experience in assisting our customers and website visitors in finding the best services to suit their needs. Our website has a vast amount of pages and information relation to various financial services, types of insurance and travel service. Coupled with our sister sites: and which between them offer great discounts and vouchers on various products and a shopping portal allowing you to run comparisons on a huge number of stores, services and products from dishwashers to ipads.

Whilst everyone loves to save money, there is a difference between a cheap product and a great deal. Here at we have both, with the budget insurance policies offering reduced cover to airport parking using park and rides. Added to this, some truly amazing rates on market leading and recognised brands such as Holiday Autos car hire, NCP car parking and Santander bank accounts you are certain of a great deal when using our services.

When you make a comparison typically people are looking for the best prices but there are many more reasons to do such a thing, firstly to compare items side by side so you can see the difference. When some products, especially in the travel extras industry this allows you to pre-book making sure a space or service is reserved and you are not left wanted on arrival.

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa – BBC

Ebola travel: South Africa bans incomers from W Africa

21 August 2014

Image caption Kenya has not reported any cases of Ebola, but is a common transit point for African travellers

South Africa says non-citizens arriving from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa will not be allowed into the country, with borders closed to people from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

All non-essential outgoing travel to the affected countries has been banned.

Senegal also said it was suspending flights with Ebola-affected countries, and closing the border with Guinea.

Cameroon and the Ivory Coast earlier imposed travel bans, despite World Health Organization warnings not to.

South African nationals will be allowed to re-enter the country when returning from high-risk countries, but will undergo strict screening, the health ministry said on Thursday.

Usual screening procedures are in place for those who travel between Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, which have been defined as medium-risk countries.

Image caption Nigeria stepped up its airport screening procedures after a number of Ebola cases were confirmed

South Africa has experienced two Ebola scares in recent weeks, involving passengers arriving from Liberia and Guinea, but the country has so far remained Ebola-free.

Johannesburg has one of the major transit airports, connecting southern Africa with the rest of the continent. Several airlines, including British Airways and Emirates Airlines, have stopped flights to some of the affected countries.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s interior ministry announced on Friday it was closing the land borders with Guinea “once again”.

Senegal shut its border with Guinea for the first time in March after the virus reached the capital Conakry.

In a statement, it said this extends to “air and sea borders for aircraft and ships from the Republic of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia”.

AU team

Separately, the African Union (AU) announced plans to send a special team to the four affected countries.

The six-month-long operation, involving volunteer doctors, nurses and medical personnel, will cost about $25m (£15m) and begin immediately, the AU said in a statement.

Aid workers and medical staff are most exposed to the virus, and have been most at risk of becoming infected. Two US aid workers were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, after recovering from the virus they contracted in Liberia.

The supply of the experimental drug used to treat the couple, ZMapp, has been exhausted.

As Ebola has no known cure, it is being controlled by isolating victims and those who have come into contact with them.

Liberia’s attempt to prevent the spread of the virus by imposing quarantines has led to unrest .

Airlines flying to Italy

Italy overview

To British tourists booking flights to Italy, the country epitomises la dolce vita. Cafés set among Roman ruins; sun-drenched cities filled with scooters; rolling Tuscan hills; vaporetti on the Venetian canals; arguably the greatest art collection of the world, both in galleries and churches; and everywhere you travel exquisite food and wine. Italians revel in the good things in life: eating, drinking and good conversation reigning above all else.

There is something to see and do in Italy year-round. There is skiing in the mountains at winter, endless sightseeing in the large and small towns throughout the year (the Leaning Tower alone is worth the cost of cheap flights to Pisa ) and in the summer sunbathing on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast, the South and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

The country is easily accessible from the UK and Ireland, making it perfect for a short break. Flights to Italy take a few hours and are available to a huge array of towns throughout the country. Each region, city and village has its own distinct feel, culture and food. You could travel for years in this stunning country and still find something new.

Italy climate

Italy’s climate changes with the region. Summers in northern Italy are warm and sometimes rainy. It’s humid in central Italy and hot and dry in the south. Winters are cold, damp and foggy in the north, near-freezing in the centre of the country and mild in the south. Temperatures on the coast are the same regardless of their location. The mountain areas have a much bigger difference between summer and winter and snow can start falling as early as mid-September.

When to fly to Italy

Seaside hotels in Italy are packed from June into September. The mountain ski season is December through April. Despite the heat and humidity, the cities are busy April through October, particularly June and July, and Christmas and New Year’s. Venice is also packed during Carnival (February).

Shoulder Season:

The crowds are less intense and the weather perfect April through May and September through October.

The low season usually runs from November to mid-December, and December 25 to March 31. Most attractions go on shorter winter hours or are closed for renovation. This can be a good time to find a cheap Italy flight and discounts on hotels. August is when most Italians take their vacations and close their shops and businesses.

Getting around Italy

Travelling around Italy is easily done by bus, train, car, or plane. There are a number of airports serviced by domestic and international airlines in Italy, so flights are frequent and convenient.

Country driving requires nerves of steel, and city driving is not recommended. City drivers are aggressive and impatient, and parking spaces are rare and costly. Several cities add to the problem with confusing patterns of one-way streets. Most Italian cities’ historic centres are best covered on foot. When walking around Venice, allot extra time for getting lost — it’s bound to happen. For all cities, bring comfortable and sturdy walking shoes as there are lots of cobblestones. Public transport is the best way to travel in a city. Rome and Milan have underground trains, buses, and trams, and Florence and Bologna have buses. Venetian public transport is water buses and ferries.

Taxis are available in most cities in Italy, and water taxis in Venice. Either call for one or get one at a taxi stand. In Bologna, the network of one-way streets is so convoluted that taking a cab can be very expensive.

Mopeds are popular in Rome and Florence.

Italy insider information

  • From Romulus and Remus to the Holy Roman Empire to modern day, Rome’s history is rich with political intrigue, grandeur, infamy, papacy, and artistry. The streets of Rome reflect its past: the Forum, Farnese Gardens, Pantheon, Colosseum, and Vatican City. Museums house masterpieces created and accumulated throughout Rome’s history. Fine dining and shopping can be had on any budget.
  • More beautiful than in the movies, Venice was Europe’s main trading post between the West and East for a thousand years. Merchants from a host of countries conducted business here, and everywhere you go are vestiges and relics of the past. Authentic Venetian glassware, lace, and Carnival masks are still produced here, and there’s always a concert going on somewhere.
  • Italy’s financial and business centre, Milan is rivaled only by Paris as a fashion centre. Dining, the theatre, and the nightlife are as popular as shopping. Italy’s most populous and prosperous city, Milan is not just glitz — La Scala opera house is here as are masterpieces like da Vinci’s Last Supper, grand architecture, and two famous football clubs.
  • Florence is considered Italy’s most beautiful city, and the museums are even better. The development and growth of the Renaissance are reflected in the paintings, frescos, statues, cathedrals, and chapels. Michelangelo’s David. Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, and Raphael’s Madonnas are here. For a change of pace, take a stroll in Dante’s neighbourhood, have a Florentine gelato, or browse the shops and markets.
  • Another beautiful city, Bologna has a medieval centre, old brick palaces, porticoed streets and squares, but without the enormous crowds of other Italian cities. As Italy’s gastronomic capital, just eating is sheer pleasure. Home to the oldest university in Europe, Bologna guarantees an interesting mix of performing arts and exhibits. The large student population also means a vibrant and diverse nightlife.

Cheap Flights to India from C$637. #go #travel #direct

#where to get cheap airline tickets

India overview

When to fly to India

Deciding on the best time to take cheap flights to India depends on where you intend to go. India is such a vast country and has such a range of climates that almost every season has its peak time and off-peak time.

Peak Season:

Most travellers arrive on cheap flights to India between September (when it stops raining in many parts of India, but not in the southern part of India where there are winter monsoons) and March. December and January can be very cold. In the south of India, winter weather is still warm although it may get chilly at night.

Off Season:

Temperatures between April and August are very high, sometimes unbearable. Savvy travellers head to the hill stations where it is cooler. The monsoons last from June through September.

Travellers taking cheap flights to India will discover a country that almost defies description. The world’s second-most populous country is a fascinating blend of contrasts, traditions, legends and mystery. Home to more than one billion people, and the birthplace of four world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism), there are about 20 languages spoken. It’s the world’s seventh-largest country by area, extending from the Himalayas in the north to the tropical beaches of the south. Its 27 Unesco World Heritage sites include the Taj Mahal, one of the new seven wonders of the world, Agra Fort and Humayun’s Tomb. You would need a lifetime to experience all that the country has to offer. Luckily, in India, it is said, they treat their guests as they welcome their gods.

Its festivals and celebrations are riots of colour and noise. Entire communities celebrate festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Id, Christmas or Mahaveer Jayanthi. Getting around between Indian’s largest cities – Mumbai, Delhi. Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru – and smallest towns has never been easier.

India climate

India is a big country and the climate can vary depending on where you are. Winters are dry and cool and last from December through February. Summer is still dry, but warms up quite a bit. The southwest monsoon season is from June through September; the northeast monsoon season lasts from October to November.

Getting around India

One of the best and most popular ways of getting around India is by air. Air India has a comprehensive network, and low-cost airlines have become very popular with Indians and tourists alike.

India has the second-largest rail network in the world and moves more than 15 million people each day. Bus services augment rail services to reach the most remote parts of India.

It’s more usual to rent a car and a driver than it is to rent a car. Taxis are available at inexpensive, daily rates.

In the cities, there are good public transportation networks – buses, trains, and metro (Kolkata for example). Auto-rickshaw is another good way of getting around. They are cheaper than taxis and are able to nip through congested city streets. Agree a price before your journey starts. Cheaper still – but slower – is the cycle rickshaw.

  • Car Hire in Dubai – Compare cheap rental deals from easyCar

    #cheap car rental deals

Search for car hire in Dubai

Dubai is the second largest of the United Arab Emirates and is situated on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its climate makes it a popular tourist destination throughout the year and, with a hire car, you can really make the most of your visit by exploring Dubai or even taking a trip to the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Booking a rental car with easyCar, the low cost, online, car hire specialist, is simple. easyCar has car rental facilities at Dubai International Airport and in downtown Dubai, and offers some great cheap car hire deals.

    Dubai – The City

Dubai is a fascinating mixture of the old and the new, and is packed with attractions. Public transport in Dubai can be unreliable, so the best way to explore is by rental car.

If you want to learn about the history of Dubai, head off in your rental car to the 18th century Al Fahidi Fort in the district of Bur Dubai. The fort now houses the Dubai Museum, which contains range of artefacts, including pearl diving equipment, weapons and jewellery.

Dubai’s architecture includes everything from contemporary skyscrapers, such as the Emirates Office Tower and the Burj Al Arab Hotel, to beautiful mosques, such as the Grand Mosque. For a break from your rental car, take an abra (water-taxi) or rent a dhow (a traditional sailing boat) and sail down the Dubai Creek for great views of the city.

Shoppers will also notice the mix of old and new. Dubai has many souks, the traditional Arabian marketplaces, including a gold souk and a spice souk, and bartering is essential in these. However, it also has modern shopping malls, such as the Mall of the Emirates, which has more than 400 stores, together with restaurants, a cinema and a theatre. For a break from the heat, you can even go skiing, as the Mall of the Emirates is home to Ski Dubai, the Middle East’s first indoor ski resort.

    Attractions in the Dubai Area

If you’re visiting Dubai, car rental will give you the flexibility to take day-trips so that you can explore more of the United Arab Emirates. You can use your rental car to get to the city of Sharjah, in the neighbouring emirate (also called Sharjah), about 20 minutes’ drive from Dubai.

Sharjah is known as a city of culture and has many museums, including the Sharjah Heritage Museum, the Sharjah Maritime Museum and the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum. Other attractions in the city include the Sharjah Aquarium and you can also take a boat trip on the Al Khan and Khalid lagoons. Be sure to take a trip on the Eye of the Emirates observation wheel for stunning views across Sharjah before driving your hire car back to Dubai.

Alternatively, jump into your rental car and head off to Abu Dhabi for a day or two. Abu Dhabi is the largest of the United Arab Emirates and the city of Abu Dhabi is worth exploring. Park your hire car and take a stroll along the Corniche, a waterside promenade which is popular with both locals and tourists, or visit the Abu Dhabi Heritage Village to find out about traditional Bedouin life. Take a tour of the luxurious Emirates Palace Hotel, before stopping off to shop at the Abu Dhabi Mall or one of the city’s souks.

Low Cost Car Rental in Dubai

If you are planning a Dubai car hire holiday, book a rental car online with easyCar now and take advantage of our great low cost car rental deals.

International travel plans and World Devices from Verizon #airline #flights #cheap

    #travel plans

With a little planning, your phone will be the least of your travel concerns.

Passport? Check. Low airfare? Nailed it! You’re making headway on your vacation to-do list, but don’t forget to see if your phone’s ready for the international trip. Nothing dulls a vacation quicker than bill-shock.

Directions to that hole-in-the-wall restaurant your guidebook swears by. Translating signs along the way. Sending pictures to friends. All that data use adds up.

    Before you leave…

    1. Visit Verizon’s Trip Planner to determine whether your mobile device will work abroad and check the voice, text and data rates for your destination(s).

    2. Use the Data Calculator to estimate your data needs.

    Taking a long weekend?

Now, your wireless plan travels just like you do. When you take a trip abroad, you can add TravelPass℠. starting at just $2 a day per line and use your domestic voice, text and data plan while traveling to Mexico, Canada and beyond. You also only pay $10 a day per line in more than 65 other countries. You re only charged on the days you use your device abroad—it s an economical way to stay connected while you travel.

You’re only charged on the days you use your phone. So if you don’t send a text, use data, or make or receive calls while traveling internationally, then you won’t have to pay a dime extra.

It’s simple to use, too. Add TravelPass from My Verizon and you’ll get a text message explaining the fee when you arrive. The first time you use your phone (such as sending a text or answering a call), the fee begins. Use your phone as much as you want for the next 24 hours. You’ll only get another TravelPass charge if you use your device again after the first 24 hours.

Just remember that your minutes, texts and data will count toward your regular plan. That means if you go over your plan allowance, you will be charged overages based on your domestic plan. All 4G LTE World Devices from Verizon (such as smartphones, tablets, Verizon Jetpacks and USB modems) are eligible for TravelPass.

Taking a trip for up to 3 weeks?

If you don’t have a World Device and if you need a device for 21 days or less, consider the International Travel Program (must be on a qualified domestic plan). You’ll get service for a basic phone, smartphone or USB modem while in certain international destinations.

Before you leave the US, Verizon will send you a World Device and travel adapter to use on your trip. Just pay the one-time shipping cost. There are no daily rental fees or security deposits—just pay for the usage (talk, text and data depending on the device). The charges appear on your regular Verizon Wireless bill. Plus, you can keep your regular phone number and transfer contacts using Verizon Cloud or Backup Assistant℠ Plus.

Taking a month-long trip for fun or frequent trips for work?

Month-to-month plans help frequent international travelers get ongoing data coverage. You can choose the Mexico and Canada plan or a plan that offers service in more than 140 countries.

    The bottom line

Two things work in your favor when you set up a data plan: you will be accessing much lower rates and getting notifications on your data usage.

To keep your data in check. turn off your email and push notifications, and use Wi-Fi when it’s available in airports, hotels and restaurants to browse the web or check your email.

For more information on International Travel Services, including a list of destinations, check out Verizon’s International Service Options. Safe travels!

    Japan Airlines resumes flights from D #round #the #world #travel

    #airline flight

Japan Airlines resumes flights from D/FW today

    Kazuhiro Nogi/Agence France-Presse

Japan Airlines resumes flying Monday from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport for the first time in more than 14 years.

The Japanese carrier initially will operate four flights a week but has said it might expand to daily service in the spring. It will fly a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jet — which has 161 seats and first-class, premium economy and economy cabins — on the route.

Japan Airlines will mark its return with a traditional Japanese gate ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at gate 22 in Terminal D. The flight is scheduled to depart at 11:45 a.m.

Japan Airlines ended its D/FW-to- Narita service on Oct. 7, 2001, following the terrorist hijackings of Sept. 11, 2001. It initially began that service in March 1999.

Its Oneworld Alliance partner American Airlines, the dominant carrier at D/FW Airport, will continue to fly twice a day between D/FW Airport and Narita, using Boeing 777-200 aircraft with 247 to 260 seats. Each carrier will put its code on the other’s flights, meaning Fort Worth-based American and Japan Airlines will share revenue from each other’s U.S.-Japan flights.

Japan Airlines will rely on American and regional brand American Eagle to feed passengers to its D/FW flights, just as American feeds passengers to JAL’s flights out of Narita.

D/FW, the nation’s fourth-busiest airport, sees more than 63 million travelers a year and offers flights to more than 200 destinations, including 57 international cities. Nearly a third of the international destinations were added in the last five years.

Japan Airlines’ return to D/FW Airport is the latest in a number of international wins for North Texas travelers in the past four years. Among them:

To the west: American Airlines launched service to Seoul, South Korea, in May 2013; to Shanghai and Hong Kong in June 2014; and Beijing in May 2015. Qantas Airways launched service to Sydney in September 2014.

To the east: Emirates Airline launched flights to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in February 2012. Qatar Airways launched flights to Doha, Qatar, in July 2014, and Etihad Airways launched flights to Abu Dhabi, UAE, last December.

Calling Internationally: To call Mexico from the United States, dial the international prefix, 011; then Mexico’s country code, 52; and then the city code, then dial the actual phone number.

Electricity: The electricity in Mexico is 127 Volts, alternating at 60 cycles per second. If you travel to Mexico with a device that does not accept this, you will need a voltage converter. Plugs have Flat blade plug, so if your device does not have this, an adapter plug is needed.

Travel Insurance for Mexico Trips: You should consider the benefits of travel insurance as part of your Mexico travel planning. Most travelers look for travel tips that discuss the importance of travel insurance and travel insurance through Travel Guard can provide important coverage for your trip.

Tool for finding cheap flights from departure city without entering destination

Not exactly a mileage run question, but I think this is the most appropriate place.

Is there a website I can use to find the least expensive flights from a departure city on a specific date? For example, if I want to see all the cheap flights departing from Boston next Friday so I can determine if any of them are warm and worth going to, is there a tool I can use?

I was using FareCompare like a different thread suggests, but I cannot figure out to use specific dates.

I also tried using Expedia s dream tracker, but all the pop ups on the map are a big pain in the butt.

I ve been hesitant to post this on Flyer Talk because I m sure it s answered someplace and I did not want snarky use the search responses. However, their forum search is not a great tool when they are so many posts.

Here are some of the recommendations:

Great for constructing a mileage run, but not (yet) friendly for just finding cheap flights for a quick getaway:

The cheapest way from London to Paris #israel #travel

    #travel to paris

Which is the cheapest way to get from London to Paris – car, Eurostar, coach or plane?

There are many different ways to get to Paris. Today, we did a spot check comparison on as many of them as possible, including rail fares, plane tickets, car – including options by ferry or by Eurotunnel – and by coach.

We should sound a note of caution in that some tickets are for travelling on a Friday (see methodology below), often the most expensive day to travel, which will distort the results somewhat. But they give a sound indication of how budget-conscious travellers should plan their journey to the French capital, whether travelling in the short-term or several months down the line.

Prices checked are for a single adult, with no discount cards

Prices were checked on the morning of Friday September 4, for full adult fare, both single and return journey (four days after outbound trip). Airfares are hand-luggage only.

We have not included the cost of airport transfers for Easyjet and Ryanair. But a return train ticket from Charles de Gaulle to Gare du Nord will cost about 20, and from central London to London Gatwick is at least £10, and likely to cost more, unless booked in advance.

What we have learned (or confirmed)

On the launch of its international routes three years ago, Megabus ( ) carved a reputation for value with its headline £1 fares. However, when we carried out this same research last year, we found that the cheapest coach to Paris was run by iDBUS (now rebranded as OUIBUS; ). But wait, there’s more: for 2015, Megabus has reclaimed its throne, again providing the cheapest route on wheels to the French capital.

Both budget coach companies trump the National Express arm, Eurolines ( )

It’s also worth noting that travel company’s websites have become pretty good at pointing you in the direction of the cheapest fare, so it’s no longer necessary to be suspicious they’re hiding the best value.

For Eurostar ( ), Friday is an expensive time to travel: the cheapest fare available was often £30 more expensive than the same for the previous or following day (a Thursday or Saturday). This is particularly true when booking in advance.

The same goes for Eurotunnel ( ), only to a lesser extent, with only a couple of pounds variation between the cheapest ticket available for next Thursday (£76) and Friday (£78). As per usual, the most anti-social travel times wins you the best deals.

P O Ferries ( ) is marginally more expensive than Eurotunnel in our study.

The cliffs of Normandy await ferry passengers Photo: Fotolia/AP

Eurostar booked well in advance is still very competitive – only £33.50 more than the cheapest return by coach. Plus, the coach services we surveyed had an erratic approach to advance bookings, with no clear timeline available, where Eurostar allows bookings 180 days in advance.

Obtaining one of the limited number of cheap seats on the Eurostar plays a large part in determining the size of your final bill (fail to book a discount seat on Eurostar and the prices rise steeply).

However, it costs similar to easyJet and becomes a much better deal once you take into account transfers to the airport.

For drivers, Viamichelin is a terrific website. As well as the route, it calculates your likely fuel costs, and tells you how much to expect to pay for tolls. Impressive.

Travel times vary for coaches surprisingly widely (up to two hours), and consider just how much you fancy eight hours in a coach before being lured by the prices.

Group travel can be an advantage. OUIBUS, for example, offers discounts for groups of more than 10. And as for travelling by car, if several (paying) people are in the same vehicle, it is almost without question the best deal of all no matter when you travel (without taking into account any additional fees for travel insurance/ roadside assistance).

Note too that the Man in Seat Sixty-One has an interesting option if you wish to travel by train, ferry, then train again. Surprisingly it s not the shorter route via Calais that is cheapest, but a longer way, via Newhaven to Dieppe. Read full details of his suggested train-ferry-train combination here

Top tips on travel to Ireland: from handling the weather to

    #travel to ireland

Top tips on travel to Ireland: from handling the weather to the locals (PHOTOS)

Heading to Ireland later this year or next? There may be a few things you need to know about before you head over.

Heading to Ireland later this year or next? There may be a few things you need to know about before you head over.

    1. Check the baggage restrictions on flights

They can catch you out, especially if you’re flying within Europe with Ryanair and you get charged a gazillion euros for carry-on luggage. Don’t forget to Google beforehand and check out the weight and size restrictions.

    2. You’re going to need an adapter

We’ve wonky looking plug sockets here in Ireland so if you’re making your way over you’d better stock up on the adapters. This is especially true for Americans.

    3. It’s going to rain

It will. You might as well pack your wellies now if you’re planning to head over because in Ireland when it rains – it pours.

There’s also a chance that the sun might actually make an appearance so don’t forget the sunglasses!

    5. We don’t all speak in Irish

Thankfully it’s not necessary to be fluent in Irish before you arrive – English is our main language. Not many people regularly speak in Irish in Ireland unless you’re wandering around in the Gaeltacht areas.

    6. But we phrase things differently

‘What’s the story?,’ ‘do you want a lift?’ and ‘get the shift’ are phrases used on a regular basis here but may not mean what you think they might mean. Never fear though, we’ve a guide to Irish sayings and phrases to help you along!

    7. We complain a lot

Usually about the weather, the banks or the government but don’t be afraid to join in – we love a good moan about the state of Ireland.

    8. We drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road

And by wrong, I mean the left hand side. Just in case you were planning on renting a car!

    9. Look to your right when crossing

Following on from that, don’t forget to look to your right when you’re crossing a road. Thankfully there are now handy signs on the ground if you need a few pointers.

    10. We were born to jaywalk

Listen, we just can’t help it. If there’s even the smallest gap in traffic we’re going to go for it.

    11. Blasphemy is illegal

Yep, it’s true and written in Irish law – whether people actually abide by it however is another story altogether.

    12. Don’t order a ‘black and tan’ or ‘Irish car bombs ‘ in the local

Just don’t. The barman probably won’t have any idea what you’re ordering and others may find it a bit offensive – don’t bother to risk it, safer to order a pint.

    13. Tipping not compulsory

We’re not big tippers here in Ireland except in restaurant situations where the 10% to the waiter is almost a given. But no need to tip taxi drivers unless they’ve shown good service.

    14. If you’re planning to rent a car, don’t forget to book an automatic!

The majority of cars in Ireland use a manual gear stick so if you’re planning to rent when you’re here don’t forget to book an automatic in advance.

    15. Booking a taxi not always necessary

No need to call up a taxi every time you want to head somewhere, there are plenty to go around during the day. You can flag one down by stretching out the hand or just head to a taxi rank. But if you’re heading on an early morning flight home, best order one just to be sure. Taxi too expensive? Save a bit of money and take the bus instead!

    16. Buses won’t stop unless you put your hand out

If you are taking the bus this is vitally important. But be warned, some days even putting your hand out and waving it around won’t be enough to make them stop. So don’t be surprised if you see people at the bus stop jumping up and down in desperation when the bus is in view.

    17. Prepare to be late, the buses are never on time

No point in looking up the timetable, sometimes they don’t even bother turning up. This is particularly true for Dublin Bus whose buses randomly disappear off the timetable. You’re almost better off relying on these transport parody Twitter accounts.

    18. We tend to curse a lot

Mind your ears, we do it without realizing! But we don’t mean it to be offensive; it just sort of slips out.

    19. We almost take pride in the state of our potholes

Ireland’s country roads are notorious for having the regular pothole. You might as well take a crash course in rally driving before you tackle our roads.

    20. Anything over 17 degrees is considered warm

Degrees Celsius that is, room temperature, about 65 Fahrenheit. We’ll head out in t-shirts when it’s this warm.

    21. Off-licences close at 10pm

If you’re planning to head out or want a good night in, don’t forget that Irish off-licences, err liquor stores, close at 10pm

    22. The perfect night out ends with a 4 in 1

What’s a 4 in 1 I hear you say? Why it’s the most delicious thing to eat after a night on the town. Usually contains chips (fries), curry, rice and some form of chicken to nom on.

    23. If you don’t want to stick out as a tourist abandon your Aran jumper

Seriously. We don’t really wear them very often and if we do it’s probably in the comfort of our homes where we can’t be seen.

    24. Never say no to a cup of tea

You’d be mad to say ‘no!’ We’re known for our expert tea-making abilities so grab the opportunity to have a cuppa.

    Traveling From The U. S: Delta Air Lines #hot #deals #travel

    #international air travel

    Traveling From The U.S.

Having the correct documentation in place before your trip is essential to travel outside the United States. Below are the Passport Visa requirements that will help make your trip run smoothly.

A passport is required for ALL international travel. If you’re traveling anywhere overseas, even to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico, you need a passport to board an international flight and to enter any country. In general, your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date you enter a foreign country.

Visit the U. S. State Department’s website opens in a new window if you need a new passport or your passport is about to expire. There, you can find information on obtaining first time passports, passport renewals, second passport issuance and extra blank pages for an existing passport. You can also visit the U. S. Postal Service opens in a new window to find the closest Post Office that can also provide new and renewal passport services.

A travel visa is required to enter many countries. To see if one is required for your upcoming trip, visit the U. S. State Department travel website opens in a new window .

    Re-entering the U.S.

Check the travel documents you will need to re-enter the U.S. For example, if you are traveling to the U.S. from Canada, select United States in the Destination country box. This search engine and database are provided and managed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). You may wish to double-check foreign entry requirements by contacting your local embassy or consulate.

    Traveling to a U.S. Territory

If you are a U. S. citizen and want to travel to one of its territories, you will not need a U. S. Passport. Sufficient ID would be a U. S. driver’s license or other valid photo identification, the same as if you were flying to New York or Seattle. However, U.S. residents with foreign passports would be subject to the same entry procedures in one of the territories that they would be on the mainland.

These destinations are considered U. S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

Two Air France flights from U.S. diverted by bomb threats

Emergency personnel are shown on the tarmac at Salt Lake City International Airport in this photograph taken by passenger Keith Rosso from a seat inside Air France flight 65, November 17, 2015.

    Reuters/Keith Rosso/Handout via Reuters T

LOS ANGELES Two Air France flights bound for Paris from the United States were diverted for several hours on Tuesday following anonymous bomb threats, and more than 700 passengers and crew were safely taken off the planes, officials said.

Flight 65, an Airbus A-380 that departed from Los Angeles, landed safely in Salt Lake City, where passengers and crew were escorted into the terminal, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said. The Salt Lake Tribune, citing an airport official, said it was carrying 497 passengers and crew.

The FBI said in a statement that no evidence was found aboard the plane “which would lend credibility to the threats” against the flight.

The airport said operations were not affected, and local Utah media including broadcaster KSL reported that passengers had been cleared to reboard and resume their journey.

Keith Rosso, a passenger who tweeted a photo shortly after takeoff from Los Angeles, said he was “thankful to everyone who has been working to keep everyone calm and make sure air travel is safe. Hope to be taking off again shortly.”

A separate Boeing 777 that left Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. Flight 55, was diverted to Halifax International Airport in Nova Scotia, which said 262 passengers and crew members had safely disembarked.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Halifax said on its Twitter feed that police dogs searched the plane for evidence of explosives, but no details were disclosed.

In a brief statement, Air France said both flights had been the “subjects of anonymous threats received after their respective take-offs.”

“As a precautionary measure and to conduct all necessary security checks, Air France, applying the safety regulations in force, decided to request the landings of both aircraft,” the airline said in its statement.

It said authorities inspected the aircraft, passengers and luggage, adding: “An investigation will be led by the authorities to identify the source of the telephone call.”

Security officials have been on high alert since Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for attacks last week in Paris that killed 129 people. Russia has said the group was also responsible for the downing on Oct. 31 of a plane returning to St. Petersburg from the Sharm al-Sheikh resort in Egypt, killing all 224 on board.

The incidents did not appear to be causing flight delays or cancellations elsewhere.

According to data on flight tracking website, flights operated by both Air France and other airlines appear to be taking off and landing normally at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

    #how to find cheap flights

    Cheap Flights to Perth

    Perth overview

When is the best time to fly to Perth?

Perth is Western Australia’s capital and its largest city. Famous for its big open spaces, dominant skyscrapers, wine-growing and laid-back lifestyle, Perth offers a unique blend of urban and natural landscapes. Most travellers arrive on cheap flights to Perth during the summer holidays for the various events and festivals taking place. The annual Perth Festival and Swan Valley midsummer feast are just two of the popular summer events. Prices for flight tickets rise in the summer months, which can be hot but the perfect time to hit the stunning white sand beaches for a dip and watersports, or cool off in the shady national parks that border the city. Another peak holiday time is during the July school holidays, when cheap flights to Perth are harder to find.

Perth experiences nearly year round sunshine, the winters are mild with average daily temps around 15C. The majority of the rainfall occurs in the winter months with showers, gale force winds and thunderstorms prevalent. May and June are the heaviest rainfall months, so pack wet weather gear if arriving on flights to Perth during this period.

When is the best time to book a flight to Perth?

The shoulder seasons of autumn and spring are generally less busy and a nice time to visit Perth if you want to avoid the hot summer weather. Autumn though still warm enough for sailing and watersports, doesn’t have the intense heat which in February can be 40C or higher. Spring might still have the odd rain shower but the landscape blooms with wildflowers. The cheapest flights to Perth are in March, and the most expensive are in January.

How long is the flight to Perth?

Which airlines operate flights to Perth?

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Perth Airport (PER) is a busy domestic and international hub and the gateway to Western Australia. Once landing in Perth Airport you can reach the city centre, 17 km away, by taking an Airport-City Shuttle ($15 for a single journey), or the Transperth, a bus that runs to and from Domestic Terminals 3 and 4. If landing at T1 or T2, there is a free terminal transfer bus that runs to T3 and T4. Taxis are available at all terminals and a trip to the CBD costs approximately $40.

    Recent flights forums

Cheap flights to Costa Rica recently found by travelers

The top flight destination for Costa Rica is San Jose

Enter your dates once and have TripAdvisor search multiple sites to find the best prices on Costa Rica flights.

    Arriving at the Destination

When searching for cheap flights to Costa Rica, there are four international airports to consider. The Juan Santamaria International Airport is the top airport in the country. It was recently ranked as the third top airport—and the most improved airport—within the entire Latin America and Caribbean region.

At the Juan Santamaria Airport, tourists can definitely expect to experience spacious and state-of-the-art facilities. Although the other international airports are less modern than Juan Santamaria, security will be a priority at each one. Many Costa Rica flights can be found that land at each airport, so pick whatever will be the most convenient destination.

    Getting Around

When traveling to virtually any region in the country, the best place to start is San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital, and the heart of the country’s public transportation. When looking for the best flights to Costa Rica, starting your journey in San Jose is definitely a plus. Generally you will need to return to San Jose from another region before traveling to another tourist spot. From San Jose you can get a bus to virtually any cities throughout Costa Rica.

As a word of caution, the buses usually depart like clockwork. Thus, it is crucial to arrive punctually at the bus terminal. When there is no bus route to a particular location in Costa Rica, a good alternative is to rent a car. Take advantage of Costa Rica’s transportation, much of which is as convenient as airfare to Costa Rica.

    Main Attractions

If you enjoy natural wonders, then you will definitely be pleased after choosing among the available Costa Rica flights. Consider visiting the various national parks. There is Tortuguero National Park, which means “Full of Turtles.” There is also Corcovado National Park where each of the four monkey species indigenous to Costa Rica are located. Another natural wonder is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, which includes approximately 2,000 species of plants. There are also numerous species of birds and mammals on the reserve.

Costa Rica also contains several quality beaches. They include Corcovado, Manuel Antonio, Montezuma, and South of Limon. Some of the beaches accommodate activities such as scuba-diving and horseback-riding. The natural wonders are awaiting those who take cheap flights to Costa Rica.

    Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife

During the past decade or so, several shopping malls have been built in the country. Some of the top shopping malls include Multiplaza del Este, Multiplaza Oeste, Outlet Mall, and Paseo de las Flores Mall. You can also find several quality boutiques in San Jose. Cheap flights to Costa Rica ensures you can enjoy yourself shopping.

When dining out in Costa Rica, you have many choices. Costa Rica is becoming increasingly cosmopolitan in its selection of restaurants. With airfare to Costa Rica, you can dine at King’s Garden, Sancho Panza Spanish Restaurant, or the Machu Picchu Restaurant.

If you want to enjoy night life after comparing airfare to Costa Rica, then you should certainly check out San Jose. You can find a wide range of cafes, bars, nightclubs, and so on. Flights to Costa Rica will get you started on an amazing trip.

You can purchase visitors medical insurance from companies based in your home country (such as India) or from companies in the U.S. Generally, the cost of medical insurance from an American company is higher, although it is still the preferred insurance to purchase. As demonstrated in the comparisons below, American insurance has many advantages.

The following table provides a detailed comparison of the various issues involving insurance products available from companies in the U.S. and India. Please keep in mind that this is a generic discussion. There may be exceptions to the offerings of products in both countries (and all the products from a given country do not work the same way). You should review all the details of any insurance plan you are considering before purchasing it (i.e. any brochures, policy wording, comparisons between plans and information from your representative).

Most of the information below regarding Indian companies was taken from the Web sites of various companies, as it existed as of writing this, and it may change in the future in case any of the companies revise their products. The information is also based on our personal experiences in dealing with these companies on a trial basis during previous visits to India, professional experience dealing with many customers on a daily basis, and from reading the discussion forums and experiences section on this Web site. Hilton Scores a Victory Over Online Booking Sites, and What It

    #travel site

Hilton Scores a Victory Over Online Booking Sites, and What It Means for How Travel Will Be Booked

by Gary Leff on December 1, 2015

United Airlines used to offer last minute e-fares on their website, but stopped because they ran afoul of agreements with computer reservation systems to always display the best available fares through those sites.

Paying the computer reservation systems is costly, it s cheaper when airlines sell to you directly, so they used to offer bonus miles for doing so. And paying the online travel agencies is costlier still. Even though few airlines base commissions any longer (although Alitalia just re-introduced 1% commissions in Italy) they do pay based on volume.

Airlines have long paid less to the online travel sites than hotels. So hotels have gone to greater lengths than airlines in trying to get customers to book direct. Generally when you book on Expedia you still earn frequent flyer miles for your flights, and are eligible for elite status accrual and elite benefits. (Although it may not always be as clear what restrictions apply to the fares you re buying.)

Hotels on the other hand have:

    • Restricted points-earning (Hilton s official policy is no points at all, even for incidentals during your stay, when booking through a third party)
  • Restricted status-earning (major chains won t let your stay booked through most third parties count towards gaining or retaining status)

  • Restricted elite status benefits (Though Hyatt and Marriott generally honor elite status on third party bookings, other major chains do not)
  • During periods with hotel occupancy low, the OTAs had the greatest leverage. The major chain hotels were paying over 20% commissions, perhaps 25%, and independent hotels easily paid 40%.

But those commissions have been falling. With hotels full they have a stronger bargaining hand. They re able to pay lower commissions, and negotiate other favorable terms.

Hilton reports that it has successfully concluded better deals.

[Hilton CEO Chris] Nassetta said Hilton Worldwide won the right to lower the commissions it pays to online travel agencies such as Expedia and

Hilton Worldwide managed to eliminate last-room availability clauses and won the right to offer preferential pricing — lower rates than it gives to online travel agencies — to certain members of the hotel chain’s loyalty program, Nassetta said.

“We are done with all of our OTA negotiations, and we achieved our goals in every one of those pillars,” Nassetta said.

This likely explains Hilton testing discounts for HHonors members since they don t have to offer those same rates through online booking sites and can use those to incentive lower direct booking expenses.

Airlines, too, continually squabble with the online sites and computer reservation systems over how their fares are distributed. Lufthansa is currently imposing an extra charge for tickets through these systems, which makes them less competitive. It s hard to sort out the effect it has had on the airline, because their sales have also been affected by strikes. Airlines want online travel sites to work through their own, less expensive, direct channels. And they want everyone selling their ancillary products, at the lowest cost to the carrier.

When we see Expedia buy Orbitz after buying Travelocity we shouldn t just think of them as making consumer unfriendly moves, we should think of them as:

    1. Trying to preserve some of their leverage against travel providers who are eroding their margins.
  • Making defensive moves in anticipation of Google disrupting their business model.
  • That isn t to say that consolidation in the online booking industry is consumer-friendly. And consumer experiences vary. But online travel agency sites are hardly gaining market power .

How to Recover Data from Failed Raid 1? #recover #data #from

Restore Data from Failed Raid 1

RAID 1 also known as Disk mirroring, is the replication of data to two or more disks. It is good option for applications that require high performance such as transactional applications, email and operating systems. While using RAID 1, an exact copy of data is created on two or more discs. This technique will give more reliability and read performance. The only issue is storage capacity (the total storage used by RAID 1 will be equal to capacity of the smallest disk).

However, RAID users may struggle a lot if data gets inaccessible due to Raid 1 drive failure. Let us know in which situations Raid 1 drive get failed on a Windows computer:

    • Occurrence of more number of bad sectors on hard disk may result in raid 1 drive failure
    • If you do any mistake while changing file system, then RAID 1 drive may fail to work further
    • OS crash is the other common reason for failure of RAID 1 drive
    • Failure of RAID technology can also make drive unreadable and useless

Once the RAID 1 drive gets failed it will show different kind of error messages like:

    • Storecenter disk failure

INCOME FROM HOME-BASED TRAVEL AGENCY – Travel Agent Jobs #travel #tips

    #home based travel agent

    Athena in Fairfield, California

VOA in Ottawa, Ontario said: PLEASE CAN SOMEONE IN CANADA OR the U.S. PLEASE TELL ME APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH ONE CAN MAKE AS HOME-BASED TRAVEL AGENT? PLEASEEEEEE HELP! I really interested in this but I would like to know if it is worth it. I like traveling myself.

Hey, I see no one has responded to you, which is wrong. I went to college and earned 3 certificates in Travel in 2008. I started a home-based business through a host agency for a brief time. If you have a good host agency that is legit, and that pays a good commission split (with low fees), and that has good training and a good reputation, you could do o.k. But, you have to hustle to find your business, and you are in competition with the internet. None of these agencies give you leads, the only one I know is American Express, and you have to have sold approx. $100,000 dollars worth of travel in order to work with them. However, if you find a niche, and a good agency, it is worthwhile because you can travel with FAM trips, and get diccounted travel.

Look on NACTA to find a certified, bonified host agency. Check everything out to see which one suits you, and call them to see how they represent themselves on the phone.

Blessings, keep me posted; happy holidays.

    Mysql can t create #restoring #possible #half #written #data #pages #from

    01-09-2008 07:14 PM

    Mysql can’t create/write to

Ok. having some issues with getting Mysql up and running.
    the system..
    PII box with 512 ram
    Fedora 7 (Moonshine)
Mysql-5.0.45-linux-i686 (that is the build I downloaded.

Everytime I try to run the mysqld_safe script I get
nohub: ignoring input and redirecting stderr to stdout
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/

Now after extensive searching through the data bases here I ended up in /var/log/mysqld.log.
Now I see when I started the server each time and what happened. Each time mysqld started, I get a database was not shut down properly, then a bunch a stuff about restoring half written pages, apply batch of log records, progress in percents followed by a bunch of numbers 3-99, apply batch completed (everything up till this point I am not too worried about because I think that the next 2 lines explains why the data base was not shut down properly.
    [ERROR] /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: can’t create/write to file ‘/var/run/mysqld/’ (Errcode: 2)
[ERROR] Can’t start server; can’t create PID file no such file or directory.
    mysqld ended

(I assume that the 080108 and time stamps were not important so have eliminated them.)

When I look for /var/run/mysqld/ it does not exist at all, nor does the directory /var/run/mysqld.

Now does this mean I missed something in the install process, or is there a setting somewhere that I have wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I hope this was the right forum to put this in (it was either this one or the server forum, hopefully a mod will move if it should be in the server forum to prevent me from double posting. thanks.)

No if you did it as root, you wont get permission denied, that don’t happen to root.

And I’m sorry, somehow I missed this when I first read it, but by all means if you don’t have the /var/run/mysqld directory, go ahead and create it, and make sure mysql.mysql owns it. That does in fact seem to be what its complaining about.
