Turbine Marine (TM) Compact Series Portable Generators

For dependable power in a compact, lightweight, easy-to-maintain unit

1.1 MW Turbine-powered Portable Standby Generator

Turbine Marine Inc. has developed the Compact Series 1.1 MW turbine-powered portable standby generator . It is emergency industrial equipment that is so small and lightweight it can be easily towed with a standard size pick-up truck, or airlifted by helicopter as its weight is approximately 8500 lbs. and its overall dimensions are 12 L x 5 W x 7.5 H. Its enclosure is sleek and aerodynamic to reduce drag while in tow or flight. The Compact Series 1.1 Megawatt generator (1,100 Kilowatts) is powered by military Lycoming T-53, 1,475 Hp turbine engines. It has the capability of using multiple fuels including, but not limited to; jet, diesel, gasoline and bio-fuels, without any changes to the unit by the user. A natural gas version is also available.

The COMPACT SERIES is an emergency power generator manufactured using only the highest industry standard components, such as Stamford NewAge Generators (alternators) and Woodward Electrical controls for engine management and electrical current monitoring. The unit has a full digital control panel that is also capable of synchronizing multiple generator units. The 1.1 MW generator assemblies can be ordered in any Hz or voltage configuration that the application may demand.

The high-tech carbon fiber composite, fully weatherproofed enclosure, houses a self monitoring safety and engine shut down system. The enclosure also incorporates a dust / saltwater mist air filtration system for both the engine and alternator. This filtration system will allow proper operation in any conditions land or sea. The emergency back up generator assembly is trailer-mounted for easy mobility. The trailer is a quick- mount system that can be removed in minutes if a skid version is needed.

850 KW Turbine-powered Portable Standby Generator

Turbine Marine Inc. also reveals its Compact Series 850KW turbine-powered portable standby generator . This unit has the same features as the 1.1MW Series. It is also lightweight, portable, multi-fuel capable and is built with the best industry quality components.

All of our generators are easily serviceable throughout the world.

Ethanol: Pros ?>

#

Pros

Positive Net Energy Balance – Corn-based ethanol has a positive net energy balance of 1.06btu per gallon for 1.00btu of energy used without ethanol by-product credits. With these credits, for things such as DDGS, corn-based ethanol has a positive net energy balance of 1.67btu per gallon for 1.00btu of energy used.

Biodegradable – As ethanol is made with organic materials it is highly biodegradable making spills far less worrysome than petroleum spills. When spilled, 74% of ethanol is broken down within 5 days.

Usable By-Products – The two chief by-products of corn-based ethanol are CO2 and DDGS, both of which are usable in other industries. The CO2 can be captured for use in the food and beverage industry. DDGS can be used for cattle feed or further crushed to extract corn oil, for food or biodiesel production uses.

Most Infrastructure In-place – There are few changes that would need to be made to widely adopt ethanol. Most automobiles available in the U.S. are Flex Fuel capable and there are roughly 2,000 stations already serving E85. While most of these stations are lumped in the Midwest, they are increasing nationwide.

Cons

Food vs. Fuel – 2.4 to 2.8 gallons of ethanol can be produced per bushel of corn. As a result, there has been massive media coverage over the use of food as fuel. While there are mountains of findings showing how the use of corn has increased food costs and equal amounts showing it does not, in the end food crops are being used as fuel, making corn-based ethanol inferior to cellulosic ethanol in this regard.

Reduced MPG – Based on 2009 flex fuel vehicles, E85 miles per gallon is expected to be roughly 28.5% lower in the city and 26.5% lower on the highway. This means it takes 1.35 to 1.40 gallons of E85 to equal the mileage of 1.00 gallons of gasoline.

Fuel Transportation – Ethanol absorbs water and is corrosive. which make it difficult to ship through existing pipelines from the Midwest of the U.S. where most production occurs. Remedies include shipping or building dedicated ethanol pipelines, however the most likely scenario seems to involve rail or road transport. The best scenario would be local ethanol plants, with the easiest way to accomplish this through continued development of cellulosic ethanol, where feedstocks are abundant everywhere as opposed to corn or sugar.

Water Absorbtion – Ethanol absorbs water, which can contaminate it as a fuel and makes it more difficult to ship through pipelines. As a result, ethanol has a shorter shelf and tank life than gasoline.

Fueling Locations – There are roughly 2,000 E85 fueling stations in the U.S. with the majority in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. A U.S. E85 fueling station map and locator can be found here.

Cheap gasoline fueling expanded Thanksgiving travel day

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An expanded version of America’s annual Thanksgiving travel saga has begun with gas prices low and terrorism fears high.

An estimated 46.9 million Americans are expected to take a car, plane, bus or train at least 50 miles from home over the long holiday weekend, according to the motoring organization AAA. That would be an increase of more than 300,000 people over last year, and the most travelers since 2007.

Among the reasons given for the increase: an improving economy and the cheapest gasoline for this time of year since 2008.

On Tuesday, some travelers were gearing up for an early exit.

Fanni Farago, 26, of Tempe, Arizona, sat in the Albuquerque airport with her sister Flora Farago, 30, while waiting for their parents to arrive from Dallas. The family was planning on driving to the mountain resort of Red River, New Mexico to revive a family Thanksgiving tradition.

“My parents warned us about the travel warning so we decide to get started early,” Fanni Farago. “And since it’s so cheap to drive, we are going to rent a car to go up to Red River.”

Anyone trekking to a major airport should factor in 50 extra minutes on the road, according to the traffic date company INRIX — and that’s just getting to the airport, never mind getting through security.

Though there have been no changes to the nation’s terror alert status, the recent attacks in Paris, West Africa and elsewhere prompted the State Department to warn American travelers about the risks overseas.

On Tuesday, the head of the Transportation Security Administration, Peter Neffenger, boasted that the U.S. has the world’s best aviation security and assured the public that TSA is “taking every measure to protect the millions of air travelers in the coming weeks.”

At the Phoenix airport, Teri Robert said the notion of flying from Arizona to West Virginia to see family gave her pause, but in the end she decided she had to go.

“I’m not going to let the terror alerts and things stop me, because then they win,” she said.

Airfares have increased just 69 cents on average since last year, according to the Airlines Reporting Corp. which processes ticket transactions for airlines and travel agencies.
