SOME USEFUL TIPS TO GET CHEAPEST AIRLINE TICKETS?

Tip #1: Make your airline tickets reservation early.

Many dirt cheap airline tickets require that you make a reservation 7, 14 or 21 days in advance, depending on the airline tickets. The best international airline tickets often require a reservation 30 days in advance. Making an airline tickets reservation as soon as you know your travel dates increases your chances of finding a cheap airline ticket.

Tip #2: Traveling on a weekday usually cheaper.

Flights departing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday usually offer the lowest airline tickets. Cheap airline tickets are sometimes (but not always) higher on Monday and Friday than on other weekdays. Saturday flights occasionally have discount airline tickets, but as a rule it s more expensive to fly on a weekend than a weekday.

Tip #3: Stay over a Saturday night

Most dirt cheap airline tickets require that you stay over at least one Saturday night before your return flight. However, some airline tickets may only require you to stay a minimum of 3 or 4 days.

Tip #4: Again, make your flight reservation early!

Most of airlines sell only a limited number of airline tickets at the cheapest prices. When those airline tickets sell out, the price goes up!

Tip #5: Consider nearby airports.

You may enjoy better savings if you are willing to fly into nearby airports. For example, when flying to Los Angeles (LAX), you may want to consider flying into the Burbank (BUR), Orange County (SNA) or Ontario (ONT) airports. Similarly, the cost of an airline ticket to San Francisco (SFO) might be reduced by flying into San Jose (SJC) or Oakland (OAK), while travel to Miami (MIA) may be less expensive if you fly into Ft. Lauderdale (FLL).

Tip #6: Try an earlier or later flight date. To get the lowest roundtrip airline ticket, the same airline tickets must be available on both the departing and return flights you select. If the fare is sold out on either of these, the price you end up with will be much higher. If possible, consider flying on another date.

Tip #7: Book your trip with Express Airline Tickets .com!

Not just a website we work for you 24/7! Express Airline Tickets .com offers multiple ways to search for travel, especially customized for your needs.

Cheapest Days to Fly and Best Time to Buy Airline Tickets,

Cheapest Days to Fly and Best Time to Buy Airline Tickets

We all want the cheapest flights possible and that s what this guide is all about: Finding the cheapest days to fly and getting the best deals on airfare. Comparison shopping is a big help and so is knowing when to buy tickets and the best days to fly. There are lots of other ways to save, too, so let s get started.

1. Shop on Tuesday

Best day to shop: The best time to book a U.S. flight is usually Tuesday at about 3 p.m. eastern time. Many airlines release weekly airfare sales in the early morning hours of Tuesday, and by mid-afternoon, competing airlines have matched sale prices. In other words, shoppers now have the most deals to choose from.

2. Don t Shop too Early or too Late

Careful! Buy too early and you could pay too much. Buy too late and you could pay way too much. The sweet spot for deals is usually found in the following shopping windows.

U.S. tickets: Shop between 3 months and 30 days before departure.

International tickets: Shop between 5 ½ months and 1 ½ months before departure.

Popular times to fly: For peak travel periods such as June, July and August; Thanksgiving or Christmas/New Year s; and other holiday dates, purchase tickets two months in advance.

3. Always Compare Airfare

The golden rule of shopping: Always compare airfares. Some folks don t because they know their favorite airline always has the best deal, but no airline always has the cheapest prices, not Spirit, not Southwest, not every single time, and we’ve proved this. If you don’t compare, you could pay too much and why pay a penny more than you have to?

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

Tip:Set a FareCompare airfare alert and we ll do the work for you! Signing up for alerts only takes a second and the deals come to you. If you see one you like, act fast; the best deals don’t last.

4. Cheapest Days to Fly

Save even more by knowing the cheapest days to fly. If you can t book cheap days for your entire flight, do it for one leg of the trip and you ll still see some savings.

Cheap days: In the U.S., Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday are usually cheapest. For international travel, weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends.

Expensive days: Fridays and Sundays usually cost more, especially in the U.S.

Cheap times of day: Fly when most people don’t want to, so cheap times include dawn, overnight and flights around the lunch and dinner hour.

Tip: We can help you find the cheapest days from your city with the Getaway Map. Just type in your hometown, click the month or season you d like the fly, and deals to destinations around the world fill the screen.

5. Fly the Cheapest Route

Non-stops vs. connecting flights: Non-stops are more convenient but you can sometimes find much better deals on connecting flights with savings up to 50%. Always compare the price of a non-stop with a connecting flight before you ding your credit card, and only you can decide if a cheaper price is worth the inconvenience of a longer travel day.

6. Book Group Travel One Ticket at a Time

This won t always save money, but it could so it s always worth a try.

How to shop: When booking travel for two or more people, book just one ticket to start because a quirk in airline reservation systems means multiple tickets sold in a single transaction must be the same price. For example, say you need two tickets and the airline has one for $100 while all the others are $125. Unfortunately, the two tickets you buy in a single transaction will cost you $125 each. However, if you buy those tickets one-at-a-time, you ll pay $100 for one, $125 for the other.

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

Sally | Edited by Steve N

Updated November 2017

How to get the cheapest airline ticketsLeave it until the last minute and flight costs are often sky-high but plan ahead and book the right way and the savings can soar. Whether you’ve the flexibility to travel anywhere, anytime, or are looking for set places and dates, we’ve 27 tips to cut the cost of jet-setting.

Not all comparison sites are the same, so this guide takes you through the different types. Plus we’ve clever tricks to cut the cost of school holiday travel, uncover how many cheap seats are left, grab credit card freebie flights and more.

Affected by the Monarch collapse? Monarch Airlines went into administration on 2 Oct 2017, with an estimated 860,000 customers affected. If you’re one of them and you’re looking for help getting home, demanding a refund or making a travel insurance claim, see our Monarch Airlines help guide.

27 cheap flight tips, including.

Use the top comparison sites to slash costs if you know your exact dates and destination

If you know when and where you want to go, then don’t go direct to an airline; use a price comparison site to get lots of data in a very short time. However.

Different comparison sites search different firms, so check at least two.

Top pick comparison sites

All allow you to search by flight class and include travel brokers, charter airlines and budget airlines.

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

Kayak* for a comparison incl baggage and payment fees. We argue within MSE Towers about the very top pick, but Kayak is Martin’s favourite, so it wins. Not only that, but it also allows you to filter options based on credit/debit card fees and whether or not you want to check in bags so you can compare costs more accurately.

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

Skyscanner* for the very cheapest time to fly. Another MSE Towers favourite, Skyscanner gives you fare options spread over a month to find exactly when’s cheapest. It has particularly strong coverage of budget flights, searching over 1,200 airlines and travel sites in total.

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

Momondo* for its flight data info. We like Momondo for its nifty tool that tells you the cheapest and most expensive dates around your flight, as well as helpful insights such as the cheapest airport to fly from/into. It doesn’t do it for all destinations, but it has the biggies – New York, Dubai, Sydney, Cape Town.

It’s also worth checking Google – it can be a useful starting point before going to some of the others – plus try Cheapflights, Fly.com, Dohop. If you want a hotel too, Expedia* can be a good option. Discuss which ones you prefer in the forum.

Flight brokers can give big discounts if you’re booking a hotel as well

How to get the cheapest airline ticketsFlight brokers are essentially online travel agents. They allow you to book flights, hotels and car hire, often giving extra discounts if you combine them. Plus, you get extra protection for combination bookings.

While this can be a big boon, sometimes you’ll find it’s cheaper to book separately use the comparison sites above for flights, and get the best price for accommodation using our Cheap Hotels guide. But, you need to balance the gain of the protection against the extra cost.

What protection do I get?

If you make flight and accommodation bookings with the same company within the same day, you get ATOL protection even though it’s not a formal package deal. This means that if your travel operator goes bust, your money is protected, and if you’re already away, it’ll get you home. You can read more about ATOL in our Holiday Rights guide.

When is the best time to book?

When looking for cheap flight tickets, timing is absolutely crucial.

Unlike package holidays, flights should generally be booked early. Business folk will pay top dollar at the last minute, so prices soar.

Unless you prefer sticking with the same airline and you’re holding out for a sale you know is coming up, it’s usually best to book as early as you can.

The latest research from the comparison site Momondo* found it’s generally best to book 56 days ahead (last time it did the research it was 53) and that booking then is on average 28% cheaper than booking on the day of departure. The last cheap booking date varies by destination, though, so you can use Momondo’s ‘Flight Insight’ tab on many routes to see the data for it (see Flight Insight for info).

However Momondo’s figures are based on the prices quoted in flight searches, and that factors in sales too, so take its ‘perfect day to book’ info with a big pinch of salt, and if in doubt book early.

Momondo also found that Tuesdays and evenings (after 6pm) are generally the cheapest time to fly, while Saturdays are the most expensive. If you can be flexible, it’s worth checking prices on different days and at different times to see if you can cut the cost further.

Beat the school holiday price hikes with the Easyjet ‘book the wrong date’ trick

We’ve found a clever way to bag cheaper flights using Easyjet’s ‘Flexifares’, which let you switch dates by a few weeks without paying extra. It works the whole year round, but it’s particularly useful when prices shoot up during the school holidays. It’s just one of several tips we’ve got to flying with Easyjet – see Easyjet Flight Tricks for more.

How to get the cheapest airline tickets

The idea is to book a Flexifare on the same route at a less busy time when flights are cheaper. Then after 24 hours, provided there’s capacity, you can switch it to the dates you originally wanted at no extra charge. It’s not the easiest trick in the book, but if it works it could save you Ј100s.

We had to go away in the last week of May prices were through the roof because it was half term. Flights for the family, travelling at the weekend with luggage, cost Ј836 all-in. But booking flexi-flights two weeks earlier cost just Ј405. After a nervous 24-hour wait we switched them to the weekend we wanted Ј431 saved!

Forumite Green1960 saved Ј700 on flights to Lanzarote in the school hols:

When we went on the Easyjet website, the flights were over Ј1,500 including bags. We then booked the flexi-flights, which were Ј848 a saving of Ј700. A bit nerve-wracking for the 24 hours, but we know it works. There must be availability obviously on the dates you are changing to.

How to do it: full step-by-step help

It’s not guaranteed, but follow our steps to see if it works for you.

Step 1: Check at least 20 seats are available on the date you want to fly. This trick is a bit of a gamble because you have to wait before switching your flights, there’s always a risk the seats you want could be snapped up in the meantime and that you could be left with a ticket for the wrong dates.

Our suggestion then is that you pretend to book standard tickets for a large party on the dates you actually want to fly (but don’t actually go through with the purchase). If you can still get a quote for, say, 20 seats, chances are there’ll still be room once you switch flights. The fewer seats left, the more of a gamble you’re taking.

Step 2: Book a cheaper Flexifare on an alternate date. Find and book a Flexifare ticket on the same route, no more than one week before or three weeks after you want to fly. As a bonus, these tickets also include speedy boarding and one piece of hold luggage but they aren’t available on every route, so check your destination’s included.

Step 3: Watch and wait. This is the nerve-wracking bit. You’ll need to wait at least 24 hours until you switch your Flexifare tickets to the dates you want. You’ll be able to move each ticket by up to one week before or three weeks after, if there’s space on a flight. You can change the dates as many times as you like but if there’s no availability, you won’t be able to switch.

Step 4: Switch your flights as soon as you can. As soon as the 24 hours are up, log on to the Easyjet website, check the dates you’re after are still available and switch your flights.

10 Ways to Get Free (or Almost Free) Airline Tickets, where

10 Ways to Get Free (or Almost Free) Airline Tickets

Where to get cheap airline tickets

I love to travel. It sounds cliche, but it’s true. At one point, I had been out of the country every summer for six years, including a six-month stay in Europe that included the ubiquitous backpack. (See also: The Cheapest Way to Fly to Europe)

Now that I have a family, traveling is a lot more expensive, and airfare is a huge chunk of that. I haven’t given up on future trips, though, because there are so many ways to get free tickets these days. Below are some of the ideas that have worked for me or for people I know.

    1. Volunteer to Get Bumped

If you’ve flown at all, you probably know this drill. A flight gets overbooked, and so the gate agent asks for people to give up their seats in exchange for some sort of incentive. Often, that incentive is a voucher for a free or discounted ticket in the future. When you volunteer, they will usually book you through on another flight, so you still have a guaranteed way to get wherever you’re going.

    2. Rack Up the Miles

Join an airline frequent flyer program, and begin collecting miles towards a free ticket. It really is as easy as that. And most airlines are fairly good about helping you redeem your miles, as long as you follow their rules and plan your travel well in advance. You can maximize miles earned by choosing the longest route when you do fly, and you can often earn additional miles by making purchases through the rewards program website, etc. (See also: 5 Best Sign-up Bonuses for Airline Miles Credit Cards)

    3. Complain (Politely!)

Did something go wrong on your last flight? If you write a polite letter to the airline, you will often receive some sort of compensation in return. This is sometimes even a voucher for a free flight! Even if you don’t get that big payoff, you will often receive a discount on future tickets or some sort of free upgrade for your trouble. Most airlines respond positively to polite complaints. If something went wrong and you can document time, place, flight number, and personnel involved, you are likely to get something in exchange for your trouble.

    4. Look for Incentives

These days, free airline tickets are offered as incentives for everything from opening a brokerage account with a certain minimum amount of money to taking out a mortgage. While you don’t want to do these things just for the tickets, if you’re going to do them anyway, you may as well get the free travel. If you’re looking to make some sort of large investment, see if there’s a way to do it that involves free tickets.

    5. Redeem Those Credit Card Rewards

Credit cards have gotten a bad rap when it comes to actually letting you use your points to get free airline tickets. However, some of them actually do have quality programs. If you’re looking for free tickets and will be using a credit card anyway, you might as well earn points towards your next trip. If you tend to fly one airline most of the time, you can also get a credit card that is strictly for that airline. Airlines that have their own credit cards include American Airlines, Delta, and United. (See also: The Best Travel Reward Credit Cards)

    6. Get a Job at the Airline

Airline employees often get discounted flights or get to fly standby for free. If you do a lot of flying, or would like to, and are open to a new or a second job, there’s no reason not to try and get hired by an airline. As a bonus, many airlines also offer free standby tickets for immediate family members, so you can all fly for free together.

    7. Ask for Tickets as a Gift

Ok, so this one may sound like cheating because someone is still paying for the tickets, but the key is that YOU are not paying for them. If there’s a trip you’d particularly like to take and you’re the plan-ahead type, go ahead and see if you can’t get the tickets for Christmas. Maybe all of your friends or relatives could go in together. Even if they can’t come up with the full price of the tickets you want, asking for contributions can lower your personal investment significantly.

    8. Ask for Miles Rather Than Money

If you know someone who racks up the frequent flyer miles, see if they’d be willing to transfer some to you so that you can get a free ticket. This is particularly useful if the person giving the miles has more than they will ever use, knows that their miles will expire before they use them, or wants to give you a significant gift but really doesn’t have the money. Try focusing your efforts on friends or relatives who travel quite frequently for work.

    9. Win a Sweepstakes

There are many contests and sweepstakes out there that offer free airline tickets to winners. Sure, your chances of winning any single contest are low, but if you enter them systematically and frequently, your chances of winning eventually go up. While you can’t plan your life around winning a sweepstakes, the tickets would be a nice surprise whenever your name comes up.

    10.Watch for Airline Mistakes

A couple months ago, United Airlines made a mistake and offered a bunch of tickets for very cheap or free. While the mistake was only live for a couple of minutes, many people took advantage of it. If you frequent travel forums, though, you can catch these deals because people will post about them almost as soon as they happen. Sometimes, airlines will try to rescind the tickets sold during these mistakes, but most often they are honored. If you want free tickets, this is a great way to find them.

    Bonus Standby Tip

Standby is no longer free, unless you or an immediate family member works for the airline. Flying standby used to be a great way to get free and/or deeply discounted airline tickets. However, most airlines now require you to have already purchased a ticket to even be eligible for standby flights, and many will charge you an additional fee, too. Each airline has a different policy, so check this out before you try to fly on a standby basis.

    Good luck, and good flying!

Now s the time to get the cheapest holiday airline tickets

    #discount airline ticket
    #

The best time to book your holiday flight is.

If you’re planning on flying over the holidays, now’s the time book your tickets.

The report, which was based on ticket sales between January 2013 through July 2014, also found Sunday is the cheapest day to buy plane tickets. This Sunday marks nine weeks until Christmas week, so the clock is ticking.

“It’s about time we stop believing in the airfare voodoo that Tuesday is the best day to get good ticket prices,” said George Hobica, president of Airfarewatchdog.com. The average domestic fare paid on a Sunday is $71 cheaper than on a Monday, the most expensive day, the report showed.

Getting a deal on holiday travel is always hard, but maybe even more so this year, according to Keith Nowak from Travelocity. He said supply and demand is in full effect, giving airlines the pricing power.

Passengers are flying more this year than in the recent past, but airlines aren’t adding more seats, he said. “You’ve got passenger loads growing faster than seats being added. It’s clear given the current load factors, holiday planes are going to be full.”

The most recent data from the Department of Transportation showed the number of domestic fliers in July was the highest since the end of the recession. U.S. airlines carried 385 million passengers, up 2.1% from 2013.

Here are four expert tips to snag the best deals this holiday season:

Book early. Booking early doesn’t always mean better prices, but you’re more likely to get the flight and seat you want, especially given the expected high demand.

It’s all about value, said Hobica. “You can get a good deal on an ugly, ill-fitting cashmere sweater, or you can pay a little more and get what you want. Flying out at the crack of dawn, jammed in a middle seat is the ugly sweater.”

Be flexible with dates, airports. Put in multiple nearby airports and try different arrival and departure dates when searching for flights.

“You want to open up as many fare options as possible to increase your chances of finding the best deal,” said Nowak.

And it’s not just about the ticket price. “Smaller airports might have significantly lower parking prices. If you’re gone for a week, that can be a lot of savings,” he said.

Be persistent. Travelers can hold seats for up to 24 hours without purchasing them with most airlines now, said Hobica, which can make a plane appear fuller than it is and discourage potential fliers.

“People hold seats and then release them. Keep checking the flight, you never know when something might open up.”

Travel on the holiday. Flying on the actual holiday tends to bring lower prices. “If you fly late Christmas Eve, on Christmas Day or on January 1, those are always the cheapest days and times to fly,” said Hobica.

Consider Europe. If visiting grandma in the states isn’t a requirement, travelers can find cheap affair to Europe right now, said Hobica.

“And if you are in the mood to splurge, business class seats are 50-60% cheaper to Europe during the holidays.”

    MAKING THE UPGRADE

Upgrades usually come at a stiff price but Optiontown sells unsold business class seats aboard Air Asia and several other international carriers at a huge discount. Individual bookings are more likely to succeed than a group or family, and you might have to wait until you’re in the queue at the check-in desk to receive confirmation. See optiontown.com

    FLY ON THE QUIET

Blue Zone seating aboard Air Asia.

Demand for seats fluctuates, and you can use this cycle to buy yourself a cheaper seat. Between cities with healthy business traffic, midweek flights in the middle of the day are usually the cheapest. Use a flight search engine such as Momondo that gives you day-by-day prices, or Kayak, which sends you an alert if the price changes. See momondo.com.au ; kayak.com.au

    BOOK YOURSELF A BARGAIN

Most airlines release seats and open their bookings 11 months before flight time and the cheapest “earlybird” seats are the first to go. Book well in advance and you’ll save, airlines have become experts at filling their planes. The days when you could count on a late-breaking, red-hot deal are well and truly over. If the Aussie dollar continues its downward trajectory, an early booking may give you more reasons to cheer.

Air Asia Sydney to Kuala Lumpur.

    STRETCH OUT FOR LESS

Singapore Airlines’ economy class preferred seats come with many centimetres of extra leg-stretch room and they’re some of the cheapest exit row seats around. The airline charges $US40 ($55) for a preferred seat on a Singapore-Australia flight, $US60 will get you the same from Singapore all the way to Europe. Book online. See singaporeair.com

Singapore’s Changi Airport is not only a place to shop or eat between flights, but also a comfortable place to catch 40 winks.

Flying long haul? It can be cheaper to book sector-by-sector rather than a single ticket that takes you all the way through, for example one ticket from Melbourne to Hong Kong and another from Hong Kong to your final destination. Remember though, you might have to pass through customs and immigration, collect your bags from one flight and check in on another. If so, leave plenty of time between connecting flights.

    KNOW YOUR LIMITS

Budget airlines make much of their revenue from travellers who show up at the check-in desk with baggage and carry-ons in excess of the allowance. They rigidly enforce their limits and if you pay for any extra baggage allowance you may need when you make your booking you’ll save. Wait until you get to the airport and if you’re over, the penalties might end up costing more than your air ticket.

Denver airport, pitched like a row of teepees against the Rocky Mountains.

    THE RUB ON HUBS

Competition between airlines is fierce at busy airport hubs, and that keeps prices lower than at smaller airports that are served by just a few airlines. In Europe and the US especially, if you bus or train to the nearest major airport rather than flying out of a regional airport you should be able to travel at a much cheaper price.

    THE LOWDOWN ON LOW FARES

Although it lacks the bells and whistles of some airfare search engines, ITA Matrix Airfare Search is the go-to fare search engine for many travel professionals. Type in your route, the extreme ends of the dates for your outward and return flights, check the “see calendar of lowest fares” box and back comes a graphic with the cheapest fares available on every day within your time frame. See matrix.itasoftware.com

    SNOOZE CONTROL

The Guide to Sleeping in Airports website is a must-read for anyone facing a long airport stopover and looking to inject some comfort into the ordeal without busting the budget. Best seats, quiet zones, free internet, tips from other passengers – this is a goldmine for the cost-conscious traveller. Singapore’s Changi Airport consistently ranks in pole position for travellers looking to sack out between flights. See sleepinginairports.net .

    LOCK AND LOAD

Lock in the price of your air ticket with STA Travel’s Airfare Deposit Program. Pay a non-refundable deposit of $300 and you can pay the balance just seven days before flight time. Qantas offers Book Now, Pay Later. Pay a $25 holding deposit and your seat is secured, but the deal does not apply to all seats on all flights, and the final price may change if taxes, fees and Qantas’ charges rise. How to Get Cheap Flights: 14 Foolproof Tips #travel #journal

#how to get the cheapest airline tickets
    #

So stop shelling out extra dough and read below:

    • First-class airfare at coach prices.  What. It s possible, with a little research.  Be in the know about something never, ever advertised.  Y-up s are the airlines best kept secret .
    • Sometimes it s more cost-effective to book flights out of a major hub (large city). If you live in a smaller city, try to find the cheapest flight to that hub, and then another flight to your final destination from there. This is not the case every time, but it s something to look into.
    • Mix and match flights.  If you re looking for the cheapest possible route, consider that you might have to take two different airlines.  Skyscanner is excellent for this, and will combine flights from airlines automatically.

    • Use Skyscanner, kayak, Expedia. and other price comparison websites. However, it s wise to always check the actual airline website as well. You never know.
    • Check low cost airlines. Some, like Ryanair in Europe and southwest in the USA, don t come up when checking these websites used for comparison of prices.  Find a complete list of low-cost carriers here .
    • Fake your Location.  Prices change depending on the country of origin, and you can drastically reduce the price of your ticket by faking your current location.  The point is to make it look like you are actually in the country you hope to go when buying a ticket.  A few ways to do this: buy your ticket in the foreign currency, masking your IP address (with the use of a VPN), and/or using the airline’s regional website (by using .ca/Canada. fr/France. za/South Africa, etc NOT .com).

    • Clear your cookies.  Or, use an incognito window in Chrome and private browsing in Safari.  Airline websites are sneaky.  If they notice you checking out the same flights over and over again, they ll raise the prices for you.  Yes, you read that right.  Clearing your cookies erases certain aspects of your browser history, which will in turn keep the airfares at the same prices.
    • Bring your own food on board.  Is it just me, or is everything increasing in price these days?  Might as well bring your lunch and eat in-flight.  Remember to be courteous to those sitting near you, and bring foods without any intense smells.  Don t wanna stink up the plane, or make anyone too jealous!  #leaveyourpizzaathome

    • Sign up for airline emails/alerts.  THIS is where they release their sales firsthand, and it s likely the flights will be sold out by the time the deals are advertised to the general masses.  It s best to be on the list.  Deals occur year round, but look out for airfare deals around Thanksgiving, early spring, and early summer.
    • Check social media.  In addition to email, you ll find the best deals advertised on social media, especially on twitter.  Follow Airfare Watchdog on twitter for some top notch deals from your city.
    • Use points for long-haul, expensive flights. Sign up for a credit card when the sign-on bonus is unreal, and you ll automatically have enough points/miles to go almost anywhere.  Over the past few years, my husband and I have traveled to Greece, Hawaii, and Bora Bora all on air miles with our Delta American Express Platinum card. We use this card for every purchase we make (travel and non-travel related), and eventually, the points add up!

Follow these tips and your friends will be asking you how to get cheap flights!

It takes time and a little patience, and you may need to be a bit flexible with your travel dates, but finding cheaper airfare is possible.  Effort goes a long way here, which can potentially save you thousands of dollars.  Trust me on that.  I ve saved so much over the years.

    Items you will need

    • Debit or credit card Travel agent

    Step 1

Search online for flights to Europe as far in advance as possible to lock in the lowest fares. If you re planning to take your European vacation during busy travel seasons, like from May to September or during the holidays, planning ahead is even more essential to beat the sky-high prices.

    Step 2

Go to student travel agencies to get excellent deals on flights to Europe, even if you re not a student. Probably the most well-known student travel agency, STA Travel, can be found throughout the United States and typically in almost any big college town. It offers cheap U.S.-Europe airfare to the general public (see Resources).

    Step 3

Look into charter flights to Europe. Smaller airline carriers offer round-trip flights on certain dates and from particular destinations. These flights can be significantly cheaper than those of commercial airlines, but they also can be canceled if there aren t enough passengers. Make sure to purchase a ticket with a refund policy.

Ask a travel agent about buying a consolidator ticket to your European destination. Consolidator tickets are discount airline fares sold by wholesale vendors who buy up large numbers of airline tickets and resell them at lower prices than airline companies can offer. These tickets are cheaper, but they also come with a couple of drawbacks. Frequent-flier miles aren t always valid with these types of tickets, and if your flight is canceled, another carrier isn t obligated to accept you on another flight (although many airlines often provide this service for consolidator ticket holders).

Fly stand-by to Europe if you have some leeway with your travel dates, since this can be much cheaper than booking a regular flight. (See Resources for a leading website on stand-by fares). While you won t be guaranteed a seat on a particular flight, you should be able to fly on the next plane with empty seats.

How to Get Veteran Travel Discounts

Veterans often qualify for discounts that significantly reduce the costs of travel. (Photo: Digital Vision./Digital Vision/Getty Images )

    Related Articles

    Items you will need

VA card, VFW card or retired military ID card

    Step 1

Inquire about veterans’ discounts at any specific hotels where you wish to stay, at any particular attractions you want to visit or with any transportation providers you especially wish to use. Scan listings of travel operators and hotels that provide discounts to veterans on websites such as military.com or hadit.com. Consult with the Department of Veterans Affairs office closest to the city you plan to visit or in your home town for additional region-specific recommendations.

    Step 2

Sign up for a special discount card such as the Veterans Advantage card, which offers additional discounts to members for an annual fee. Select an annual, biannual or trial membership, depending on how often you plan to use the savings card. Inform any hotels, car rental agencies, airline carriers, trains, cruise lines, amusement parks or zoos that you have the card before making any bookings.

Use space-available travel, or Space-A , instead of commercial airlines for any air travel plans that are open to flexible scheduling. Identify military bases close to your departure point and your desired destination, as Space-A travel only goes in between bases. Expect less certainty to your travel dates when flying Space-A and check that you have enough funds to cover unforeseeable changes in your itinerary, such as catching a commercial flight back home or spending an extra night or two in a hotel, should a Space-A flight be delayed. Present your identification and register for the flight at the Passenger Service Center of your nearest military base flight terminal. Review the specific conditions of Space-A travel, typically far less comfortable than commercial flying, before finalizing your reservation.

Identify military lodging close to your chosen destination as an alternative to a traditional hotel. Make reservations as early as possible; typically, reservations are accepted up to 60 days in advance. Consult the listing of lodging options offered through the Army, Navy and Air Force through the Department of Defense master list (dodlodging.net). Use the centralized reservation systems to book accommodations with the U.S. Army (866-363-5771), the U.S. Navy (800-628-9466) or the U.S. Air Force (888-235-6343). To stay at a U.S. Marine Corps or a Coast Guard lodge, contact the lodge nearest to you destination directly.

10 Surefire Steps to Cheaper Airfare

How to get the cheapest plane tickets possible in 10 easy steps, from search engines and major airlines to bidding sites, consolidator fares, vacation packages, last-minute deals, and travel bargain newsletters

We’ll get to the whole 10-Step bit in just a minute. First, links to the answers to the two Big Questions.

So, How Do I Find the Cheapest Airfare?

Ah, the heart of the matter. Remember that old travel truism: no two people flying in the cheap seats actually paid the same price for their tickets, even though they’re going to the same place and getting the same service.

Reid’s shortcut to the best fares

All of the airfare hunting techniques mentioned on this site have merit, but, honestly, if I had to narrow it down to three crucial places to check, they would be:

    1) The aggregator Momondo

    2) The consolidator AutoEurope

Nine times out of ten, I end up booking my plane tickets to Europe through one of those methods. The guy in 22B might have ponied up $1,300, while the person in 22C with whom he amiably chats during takeoff paid just $320 (note to person in 22C: don’t break it to him; you’ll ruin his vacation).

This site will help you be that guy in 22C.

The secret to landing the least expensive plane tickets every time is to know where the deals are, search wisely, and never pay retail if you can avoid it.

Here is cheat sheet on how to do this: a brief roundup of all the tips, steps to take, and websites to use to find the cheapest airfare. Click on any one to get much more information and tips on that particular technique.

    1. Know that timing is everything

    Don’t pay retail

With many airlines now charging to check even a single bag, or to pick your own seat, or for the meal, headsets, and even a pillow and blanket, it helps to know the a la carte fees before you fly. These sites take stock of the current fees status:

How to Get the Best Price on Car Rentals

by FrugalTrader on May 7, 2012

With the summer right around the corner, we decided to plan a short vacation with the kids to visit friends and family.  This particular vacation involves a short flight, a relatively long drive (car rental)  for an infant and toddler (3.5 hrs), and a house rental for the week.  As I m the research to death type person to get the best deal, I thought I would share a method of getting a good price on a car rental.

When I started the search, I went directly car rental company websites and googled coupons.  While I found coupons helpful for reducing overall cost, it didn t get me the deal that I wanted before pulling the trigger.  Here s what I did to get the best price possible on a car rental.

    1.  Research Market Value

To get a deal, the first step is to figure out the market value.  In this case, I had to figure out the going rate for car rentals on a particular date and specific car size. Since we are bringing the two kids, we wanted something with a bit of luggage space.  In my experience, Expedia usually has very reasonable car rental rates, so it s a good place to start.  After that, I typically cross check the prices with the car rental company websites.  It usually works out that Expedia is cheaper than the direct website.

    2.  Get Auction Prices

As mentioned, we were looking for a particular size vehicle and in the city that we were looking, it meant only a couple of vehicle types to choose from.  As we were comfortable with both vehicles (ie. luggage capacity with decent gas mileage) choices,  auction sites like Hotwire and Priceline can work well in this situation.

Hotwire works by offering the user a low price, but the user can not choose the company, just the vehicle size.  I assume that the car rental companies bid their lowest rate to Hotwire on a daily basis.  Knowing that, it s best to watch the vehicle rental price over a period of time as it will likely fluctuate daily.  Before moving onto the next step, I usually wait until the car rental price has plateaued for at least a week.

    3. Bid your Price!

Now that you know the going rate, and the lowest price that car rental companies are willing to accept via Hotwire, it s time to use that information to your advantage.   This leads to Priceline, where you can bid what you are willing to pay.  You can bid any price on a particular car size, but Priceline has the option to reject your bid which means that you won t be able to bid again for 24 hours.

For me, I would have been perfectly happy with the Hotwire price, but the idea of getting a better deal was too enticing.  With my first attempt, I bid 37% below the lowest Hotwire price.  Rejected.  The next day, I bid 21% below and rejected again.  Then I decided to give it one more shot with a bid 12% below my lowest researched price bingo, it was a done deal.

In total, with a bit of due diligence, the price I paid for the car rental was 44% lower than the best Expedia price for the same car size.  As an added savings tip, don t forget to book with a credit card with car rental insurance coverage .

Do you have any tips on getting a deal on a car rentals?

Thanks for the info. That sound like it could be very effective way of getting a deal.

We have a trip to the US planned for July and will be renting a car. I would like to try the hotwire/priceline thing, but we have the requirement to pick up in one city and drop off in another. I don t know if that s possible with those sites. The drop off charges vary from $100 to $500 and depend on which city you are dropping off in.

    bm2wong May 7, 2012, 12:31 pm

    A couple of suggestions:

How does Priceline/Hotwire work the location of the rental? I find most websites default to airport locations.

I would also suggest BetterBidding.com, as you can see what people are renting cars (and hotels) for.

I research things too much as well so my current strategy (to reduce wasted time), is check out BetterBidding.com and go directly to alamo, as they often have cheaper rates on cars.

I ve been using the older conventional way, calling the different car rental companies near my departure location by phone, their phone number could be easily identified on google maps. Also, ask for different types of discounts, AAA/CAA/Goverment Employee rates, they will do the comparison for you on their side in terms of what best deal you can get with them. I found most of the time I get better prices calling than from their websites. I ve never used priceline, but would like to give it a try next time, but I agree with Joel, sometimes we just overlook the valuable time we spent on searching for deals . D (Hence, I ll try his suggestion as well

Kayak, Expedia, etc. give you a good starting point. I did that recently and then thought hey, my company has a travel site and I was able to beat the best price by $20 per day. With that in hand, I could probably go to Priceline and bid a few dollars per day under the corporate rate. But then Priceline charges you right away, whereas with the corp. reservation it is guaranteed but not paid for. Particularly at airport locations, the largest cost is in the fees, not the per day rate.

I think there is some great info here, but not all car rental companies or locations are the same. I don t just want a great price, I want good service. Too many times I ve taken the lowest price only to find myself standing in a long line once I arrived, and then standing in a hot parkade while workers tried to locate a vehicle. I won t mention the dog companies, but I have never been disappointed with the service from Enterprise.

How to Get the Cheapest Airfare Possible

Use multiple resources to to find the cheapest possible airfare. (Photo: Thinkstock Images/Comstock/Getty Images )

    Related Articles

Spend more of your money on enjoying your vacation and less on getting to the destination by finding the cheapest airfare possible when you travel. Using fare aggregators like Orbitz (orbitz.com) and Travelocity (travelocity.com) is an efficient way to get an idea of the range of airfares, but prices you pull up using such services aren’t always available. Consult airline websites, niche-specific travel agencies — and be as flexible as possible with your travel plans — in order to maximize your chances of finding the cheapest airfare possible.

    Step 1

Broaden your airfare search to include alternate dates — airfare search engines include the option for travel plus or minus one, two and sometimes three days — and nearby airports. Flying out of San Antonio, Texas, instead of Austin, for example, may result in a cheaper fare on some flights, while flight departing one day may be significantly more expensive than the day before or after.

    Step 2

Fly during the middle of the week when possible and avoid flying at peak times, such as around or during holidays. Greater demand allows airlines to charge higher fares, so fly when demand is lower to get the best rates.

    Step 3

Check fares on individual airline websites if you aren’t satisfied with what you find using fare aggregators like Hotwire (hotwire.com) and Expedia (expedia.com). Airlines don’t always sell all fares to these aggregators. If an airline is running a special, it may only sell the discounted tickets on its website.

Take advantage of your student or youth status and search flights using a student traveler service like StudentUniverse (studentuniverse.com) or STA Travel (statravel.com). These services sell special fares intended for youth and student travelers. Verify your student status — with a “.edu” email address, for example — to purchase these fares.

Price a round-trip itinerary, even if you only need to fly one way. In some instances, airlines charge a premium for one-way flights, causing the airfare to exceed the would-be cost of a round-trip ticket. Contact the airline after taking the outbound leg of your flight to inquire about receiving a credit for the unused return leg. Use caution when exercising this option, however. It is against many airlines’ policies and may prevent you from receiving frequent flier miles for travel.

How To. Get the Best Summer Airfares

    River-Thames

As kids finish with school and the summer travel season kicks off, last-minute travel planners are getting sticker shock scanning airfares to Europe. June round-trip flights from New York to London are running $1,600, with fares from Atlanta or San Francisco topping $2,000. It’s shaping up to be one of the busiest summer travel seasons in years, and many airlines are pricing accordingly.

But there are deals to be had, if you follow a few basic bargain-hunting tips—some of them logical, some a bit surprising.

    Barbados

Summer vacation in Barbados? Don’t mind if we do. (Photo: Greg McMullin/Flickr )

    Flexibility on Destination—and Departure Point

Airfares usually follow the basic rules of supply and demand. Europe is a super-popular summer destination, and so you usually get super-high fares.

Consider instead… Non-traditional summer vacation destinations like the Caribbean, ski towns, and the southern hemisphere (where it’s winter) can all offer compelling flight deals. And sometimes there’s an increase in the supply of airlines to a city—as is currently the case in Seattle, where Delta is expanding to make it their West Coast hub and engaging in a fare war with existing carriers, making it a rare destination deal this summer.

Surprising deals can also be found by changing your departure city. George Hobica of Airfarewatchdog.com cites Boston-Spain summer fares that are over $800 cheaper those departing from New York City. “For that, you could almost hire a limo to Boston and still save money!” he jokes, semi-seriously. So when planning those trips, think beyond JFK vs. LaGuardia or SFO vs. Oakland, and expand your search regionally.

    Logan-Airport

Jet leaving Logan Airport in Boston (Photo: Chris Devers/Flickr )

    Finding the Best Search Tools

The Internet is flooded with online tools to search for the best airfare. Editor Chris McGinnis of TravelSkills.com shared a secret of these aggregator sites: “They are all based on Google’s ITA Software program. Every one of them is going to give you the same price.” However, each of the airfare search websites does feature its own unique user interface. Sophisticated Internet travelers are going to prefer the customizable searches of ITA, while occasional users may like more user-friendly sites like, say, Yahoo Travel. Hipmunk. or Kayak .

Outside of the fare-search sites, scanning Twitter feeds like Airfarewatchdog and TheFlightDeal can provide up-to-the minute deals. And it’s always a good idea to double-check directly with the airline website (and non-participating airlines like Southwest) who are sometimes running their own fare specials. Subscribe to airline Twitter accounts and newsletters that often announce deals that begin and end before the websearch tools even find them. JetBlue is one airline known for its flash twitter deals .

    JetBlueAirBus

    Supply and Demand—For You!

To get the best summer airline fares, don’t just think about the place you want to go, consider those places and airlines that most want your business. Upstart carriers like Norwegian Airlines and France’s XL Airways are trying to develop new business by offering cheap transatlantic fares, with SFO-Copenhagen flights on Norwegian Air currently available for less than $900. (Surprise! The U.S. airline industry is lobbying congress to block Norwegian Airline expansion, because heaven forbid anyone undercuts those $2,000 tickets!)

Airlines serving countries with bad press (like Thailand post-coup) are offering deals to fill seats during a slow spell. And summertime also means fewer business travelers, so many airlines are offering nearly 50% reductions in business class airfare in July and August.

Bill Fink is a freelance writer for publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, and National Geographic Traveler. He lives near SFO, and is always on the hunt for a good flight deal.

    How To Get Cheap Flights

Wouldn’t it be amazing if you can travel in every two or three months? No matter where, both international and domestic trip, traveling is always a great way to release the tense and stress you get from work. There are a lot of things to consider when traveling, from getting in and getting around to sleeping. First and foremost: flight tickets! Oh the places you want to go, don’t let expensive flights stop you from going! Here are a few tips to book some cheap flights:

    1. Use a Travel Booking Sites

    2. Check TheCheap Flights Often

Airlines changes their fare constantly, different days and time can give you different deals. Timing is the most important thing here; if you check the fares often enough you will be able to read when the price is low. Please also noted that, airlines company tracks your IP address when you open their sites, the more often you visit them the higher the price they set. One solution for this is using the “Incognito window” feature on your browser (such as Google Chrome).

    3. Again, Timing is Everything!

Study says the best time to buy a flight ticket is somewhere between 3 weeks to 3 months in advance. There is of course no such guarantee, but it is always worth a try.

    4. Choose the Right Time to Go

There is a best time for everything, try to go in January when it’s no longer peak season. This won’t just save your money but also give you a peaceful mind with less people-packed holiday. Choosing to go on holiday in low season also gives you a more wallet-friendly price of everything from accommodations to tourist attractions.

    5. Don’t Fly on The Weekend

For regular company workers, sometimes a weekend is all you can get. However, if you ever get the chance, try to fly at the start of the week like Monday or Wednesday. A lot of people will try go back to work on those days, technically, getting in when everyone else is getting out will knock down your ticket price by a lot.

    6. Using Different Airlines To Go and Back

A little more efforts by using different air carriers can save you a lot of money even up to IDR 500.000!

    7. Leave from Neighboring Country

Singapore is known as a transit hub for a lot of international flights, if you think the price is still too high to fly from your home country, lucky you Singapore is just one step away. The money you save by flying to Singapore then buy cheap flights to your destination country sometimes can be quite a lot like a few hundred thousand rupiahs. (Adv)

The Secret to Getting a Ridiculously Cheap Thanksgiving Flight

    Stephan Zirwes—Brand X/Getty Images

Every travel agency is saying something different, but there are some tips that aren’t up for debate

For years, travel search engines have scoured through their dense databases to determine the best day to book your Thanksgiving flights. This year, like every year, there s a lot of mixed messages on what to do if you ve procrastinated on booking tickets. Here s what the big players are advising for cheap domestic U.S. air tickets:

    • Kayak : Book in early November, about two to four weeks before Thanksgiving.
    • Skyscanner : Two weeks prior to Thanksgiving.
    • Orbitz . This Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday. If not then, then before Nov. 18.
    • Cheapair . It depends on way too many things.

So what s the takeaway? It s better to be safe and book flights now, but you if you re a risk taker, you can wait until the beginning of November to book your flights. But try not to wait until the week of Thanksgiving. It s also important to weigh the risks of an unexpected fare hike in light of what your benefits of waiting actually are. These hyped savings are usually only about 5 to 10% less than the average fare, which amounts to $15 to $30 if your ticket costs $300.

In fact, since airline fares are notoriously difficult to understand. often the better question to ask is what not to do when you re booking Thanksgiving flights.

Here are a few tips that travel search engines all agree on:

Don t book a departure flight on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), or a return flight on the Sunday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 30).

Airfares increase as flights get fuller, and the Wednesday and Sunday flanking the Thanksgiving holiday are when the most people are traveling. A simple airfare search shows just how much more expensive it is to book travel on one of these days. In some cases, fares are up to twice as high.

If you have to book for Wednesday or Sunday, then book your tickets as early as possible.

If you re locked into a Wednesday departure flight, aim for a Friday or Tuesday return flight, which is around 25% cheaper than returning on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, according to an analysis by Cheapair.

Booking a return flight on Sunday results in the most dramatic airfare spike, and there s not really much you can do to save money other than to book your departure flight on Thanksgiving Day. But the tradeoff of sacrificing a chunk of your holiday is a discount of only about 10%, so it may make more sense to pick a different day even if it s Wednesday. In general, having a Sunday return flight means you re stuck with a sky-high ticket price.

Consider booking a departure flight or return flight on Thanksgiving Day or both.

If you depart and return on Thanksgiving Day, your fare may be up to 30% cheaper than the average price, according to Kayak. And even if you only depart (and not return) on Thanksgiving, those savings are particularly meaningful when applied to longer, more expensive flights. For example, flying the JFK-LAX route departing on Thanksgiving instead of the day before can save you nearly $100.

Don t book flights in groups.

If you re booking as a family and there are only a few flights left in the lowest fare category, it s possible the airline will bump the entire party up to the next fare category, according to Cheapair. That doesn t mean you can t travel as a family, though: you just might have to book each person s ticket individually.

    Check other smaller airports nearby.

There s often regional and even international airports near the ORDs, JFKs and LAXs of major U.S. cities. If you re in Chicago, for example, consider Chicago Midway Airport instead of O Hare; if you re in Los Angeles, consider Long Beach Airport instead of LAX. Both are cheaper airports than their neighboring giants, according to Cheapflights.com, which ranked the nation s 101 most affordable airports.

    Check smaller airlines.

The five biggest U.S. airlines American, United, Delta, Southwest and JetBlue all increased their base fares slightly despite lower fuel prices and a worldwide fear of Ebola. While the effect on consumers is not yet clear, it s also worth checking out smaller airlines like Spirit, Frontier and Virgin.

Where To Get The Cheapest Airline Tickets To Japan

    06/04/2013 Adam

There is a good chance that almost everyone that views this site wants to visit Japan at least once in their lifetime, if not many times more and possibly live there. What s the biggest thing stopping you from getting to Japan? Money. This rings especially true to the younger readers out there, where a budget may be nonexistent.

Cheap ticket prices aren t what they used to be (I remember round trip tickets from the U.S. for around $600-700 in 2005). I would love to be able to give away free trips to Japan to every single person who enters this site (who knows, maybe one day there will be a contest with this as a first prize).  But I figure the next best thing I can do is help you find the cheapest way to get to Japan.

So when you re heading to Japan from your home country, what website do you use to get the cheapest airfare?

    [yop_poll id= 6 ]

    Voting Closed

This list is not all inclusive as I m sure there are dozens of more airline websites, but these seem to be the major ones people use to try to get the best rates. It would be an incredible reference to everyone reading if in the comments section you could briefly include the:

    1. Website you use for cheapest tickets

    2. Country you fly out of

    3. Cost

    4. Month/Year of your flight

Any other details, strategy, or tactics you have for getting cheap tickets to Japan is highly appreciated!

Cheap flights and how to outsmart airlines to get the best

    #

Buy your ticket eight weeks in advance, fly with different carriers or book a risky ‘hidden city’ fare: How to outsmart airlines and find the cheapest flights

    View

    comments

Thanks to the internet it’s never been easier to book a dream getaway or tailor a trip to one’s desires, but high costs can keep holidaymakers’ travel plans grounded.

One of the most agonising experiences is missing a deal on a flight or booking a ticket and seeing a lower price just days later.

There are a few tricks or secrets people can tap into to secure the lowest possible fare – especially those who plan ahead, are flexible with their travel dates or are willing to take a risk.

Those who are flying to an international destination should book 150 to 225 days in advance, a study found

Book at least eight weeks in advance

For domestic routes, the lowest fares are usually found 50 to 100 days before departure, with the absolute lowest fares found about 57 days prior, according to a study by Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC).

Those who are flying an international route should plan even farther in advance – between 150 and 225 days – with the best deals around the 171-day mark, the study found.

A similar study by CheapAir found that the best time to book a domestic flight falls between 29 and 104 days in advance.

Still, airlines have been known to offer deals on airfare just a couple weeks before departure to fill a plane.

Some website, such as Kayak, allow users to receive a price alert when a fare drops.

Research suggests the lowest possible fares are typically found on Sundays and Tuesdays

Book on a Sunday or Tuesday

Research from ARC suggests that the lowest fares are found on Sundays and Tuesdays, regardless of the domestic or international destination.

Smart travellers will check prices every day of the week, as prices tend to fluctuate.

Experienced travellers know the cheapest flights tend to be early in the morning or late at night

Fly on off-peak days or at off-peak times

Those who are looking to jet abroad for an extended weekend will find the greatest savings if they fly out on a Thursday and return on a Monday.

Alternatively, people who depart on a Saturday and return on a Tuesday can save up to 25 per cent compared with booking a more expensive Sunday return.

FareCompare.com analysed thousands of flights in the US and Canada and determined the cheapest day of the week to fly is Wednesday.

Early risers and those who can sleep on a plane have an advantage, as the cheapest flights tend to be early in the morning or late at night.

And travelling at low season usually guarantees a better deal.

‘Hidden city’ fares involve a passenger booking a flight with a stopover and skipping the connecting flight

    Find ‘hidden city’ fares

So-called ‘hidden city’ fares offer big savings and were mostly a secret until the website Skiplagged was sued by United Airlines and Orbitz last year.

A judge threw out the case, arguing it was filed in the wrong court, allowing founder Aktarer Zaman to continue to operate Skiplagged out of a New York City apartment.

It works like this: A passenger books a flight from Point A to Point B with a stopover at their desired destination, and doesn’t bother to board the connecting flight to Point B.

For example, someone looking to travel from New York to St Louis could save more than $60 if they booked a flight from New York to Chicago with a stopover in St Louis, as opposed to a direct flight.

The country is known primarily for its pristine beaches along what is one of the largest coastlines in the world. Take a dive in the sea life rich reefs of Tubbataha and Apo Reef National Park that boast of as many as 197 species of corals and 285 species of fish. You can also explore some of the best wreck diving sites of the world while in Philippines. The country is also home to Asia’s only successfully laid out European town, Batad which is now a UNESCO world heritage site owing to the spectacular Banaue Rice terraces.

With our Best Price Guarantee, you know that we can provide you with the fantastic low prices on flights to Philippines, and with our 24/7 customer service you can always reach us during your trip.

Tips on buying tickets from Philippines

Philippines is essentially an all year tourist destination, the peak being January to May. New years and the Holy week witness a price rise on hotels up to as mush as three times. If you are traveling to Philippines on a budget, best time to go would be the rainy months from June to September when airfare and hotel prices drop considerably.

    Philippines Airports

Most tourists get to Philippines through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila that happens to be one of the busiest airports in the continent. The crowd and typhoon prone nature of this airport could prove to be unfriendly at times and so Mactan-Cebu International Airport comes as a more convenient option. Another one of the major airports is Francisco Bangoy International Airport that has great ground transport facility.

Watch: Full-size Silverstone racetrack recreated on frozen Arctic lake

Polar explorer Ben Saunders has driven a lap around the world famous Silverstone race circuit.

Instead, the inch-perfect replica of one of the home of the British Grand Prix was carved into the ice of a frozen lake in the Arctic, where nighttime temperatures can drop to minus 42 degrees Celsius.

Saunders, the youngest explorer to reach the North Pole alone and on foot, took to the wheel of a British-built Range Rover Sport SVR at Lake Udjaur in Swedish Lapland to navigate the iconic Surrey track with the help of Finland rally champion Minna Sillankorva.

Amazingly, there are two exact replicas of Silverstone race track at the centre, as well as replicas of Germany’s fearsome Nurburgring and Le Castellet circuit in France. The tracks are painstakingly carved into the ice each winter for ice driving holidays and testing in extreme conditions.

Saunders says: “Obviously, I had an amazing day. It was my first time driving on ice and the most fun I’ve had on four-wheels. The performance of the Range Rover Sport SVR is simply breathtaking and its poise in the corners was astounding given the slippery conditions.”

United Airlines suing 22-year-old NYC man who figured out how to get cheaper plane tickets

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) A young computer whiz from New York City has launched a site to help people buy cheap plane tickets. But an airline company and its travel partner want to shut him down.

United Airlines and Orbitz filed a civil lawsuit last month against 22-year-old Aktarer Zaman, who founded the website Skiplagged.com last year.

The site helps travelers find cheap flights by using a strategy called “hidden city” ticketing.

The idea is that you buy an airline ticket that has a layover at your actual destination. Say you want to fly from New York to San Francisco – you actually book a flight from New York to Lake Tahoe with a layover in San Francisco and get off there, without bothering to take the last leg of the flight.

This travel strategy only works if you book a one-way flight with no checked bags (they would have landed in Lake Tahoe).

Skiplagged.com now has a banner on the top of the site with a donation fund to support the creator’s legal defense.

It’s not like these tickets are the cheapest all the time, but they often are.

In the lawsuit, United and Orbitz call Skiplagged “unfair competition” and allege that it is promoting “strictly prohibited” travel. They want to recoup $75,000 in lost revenue from Zaman.

Zaman said he knew a lawsuit was inevitable but he points out that there’s nothing illegal about his web site.

He also said he has made no profit via the website and that all he’s done is help travelers get the best prices by exposing an “inefficiency,” in airline prices that insiders have known about for decades.

“[Hidden city ticketing] have been around for a while, it just hasn’t been very accessible to consumers,” Zaman told CNNMoney.

Indeed, “hidden city,” ticketing is no secret among frequent fliers, said Michael Boyd, President of Boyd Group International, an aviation consulting firm in Evergreen, Co. Boyd worked as an American Airline ticket agent 30 years ago, and says he was trained at the airline to help customers find “hidden city” fares.

“I don’t think it’s illegal what he’s doing,” Boyd said. But lawsuits are expensive and it could end up costing the young entrepreneur who has irked the two billion dollar corporations.

Airlines usually offer cheaper fares for some destinations that are not regional hubs, Boyd said. Many of these flights are routed through more popular destinations. But if a lot of people take advantage of that discrepancy it could hurt the airlines, which is why they want to shut him down.

Born in Bangladesh, Zaman grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science at age 20 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He lives in Manhattan and works at a technology start-up that he declined to name.

Zaman said Skiplagged is just a “side project.”

Zaman and United declined to discuss the lawsuit. Orbitz said in a statement that it is obligated to uphold airline fare rules.

Other travel experts say that the airlines may not achieve much if Zaman’s site is shut down, especially in a world where information is becoming more readily available.

“If [Skiplagged is] shut down, undoubtedly there will be other people to come along to scrape fares and make them available,” said Robert Mann, president of R.W. Mann Company, an airline consulting firm in Port Washington, N.Y.

According to the airfare search engine Hopper.com. the airlines will launch major airfare sales starting on the morning of Cyber Monday, if not sooner.

“We’re anticipating a record amount of airfare deals starting Cyber Monday and continuing through the week before the holiday, based on the fact that this fall (and September in particular) was the busiest time we’ve ever seen for domestic flash sales,” the site announced. “We’re predicting that this Cyber Monday will kick off a record month for fare sales.”

Deals usually begin launching at 9:00 a.m. ET and continue into the evening for trips several months in advance.

What You Can Do with a Degree in Sociology

    Jose Luis Pelaez Inc/Getty Images

    by Ashley Crossman

    Updated May 16, 2017

A lot of people take their first sociology course simply to fulfill a college requirement, not knowing much about the field before stepping into that first course. Soon after, however, many fall in love with the subject matter and decide to major in it. If this is you, you may be asking yourself, “What can I do with a degree in sociology?”

Most people who think of themselves as sociologists or have the word sociologist in their job title, have graduate training, but B.A.s in sociology apply the sociological perspective to a wide variety of jobs in such sectors as business, the health professions, the criminal justice system, social services, and government.

As a strong liberal arts major, a B.A. in sociology provides several things:

    • The undergraduate degree provides broad preparation for entry level positions throughout the business, social service, non-profit, and government worlds. Employers look for people with the skills that an undergraduate education in sociology provides, like research, critical thinking, and analytic skills.
    • Since its subject matter is intrinsically fascinating, sociology offers valuable preparation for careers in journalism, politics, public relations, business, or public administration–fields that involve investigative skills and working with diverse groups.
    • Many students choose sociology because they see it as a broad liberal arts base for professions such as law, education, medicine, social work, and counseling. Sociology provides a rich fund of knowledge that directly pertains to each of these fields.

    With advanced degrees (M.A.

or Ph.D.), the more likely it is that a job will have the title sociologist, but many opportunities exist–the diversity of sociological careers ranges much further. Many jobs outside of academia do not necessarily carry the specific title of sociologist. These include the following, among others:

    • Sociologists become high school teachers or faculty in colleges and universities, advising students, conducting research. and publishing their work. Over 3,000 colleges currently offer sociology courses.
    • Sociologists enter the corporate, non-profit, and government worlds as directors of research, policy analysts, consultants, human resource managers, and program managers.
    • Practicing sociologists with advanced degrees may be called research analysts, survey researchers. gerontologists, clinical sociologists. statisticians, urban planners, community developers, criminologists, or demographers.
    • Some M.A. and Ph.D. sociologists obtain specialized training to become counselors, therapists, or program directors in social service agencies.

Today, sociologists embark upon literally hundreds of career paths. Although teaching and conducting research remains the dominant activity among the thousands of professional sociologists today, other forms of employment are growing both in number and significance. In some sectors, sociologists work closely with economists, political scientists, anthropologists, psychologists, social workers, and others, reflecting a growing appreciation of sociology s contributions to interdisciplinary analysis and action.

To learn more about how sociology majors apply their degrees in various careers, read the American Sociological Association s report on the topic .

How to Get a Loan to Buy an Existing Business #how

    #

How to Get a Loan to Buy an Existing Business

Purchasing a business is a big undertaking, especially when financing is involved. Borrowing to purchase an existing business is somewhat different than borrowing to start a new business because existing companies already have a financial background, which means they have an established overhead and existing expenditures. When borrowing for a new business, these factors are speculative. Having real-time numbers puts more emphasis on the business plan and the existing financial statements.

Borrowing money to buy a business can be scary.

    Step

Decide how much you are willing to spend each month. Consider the amount of money you will spend on the business loan repayment amount, overhead and Insurance.

    Step

Research how much worth the business has in the current market and economy. Also, determine how much you need to borrow. For the sake of this project, we will assume it is less than $250,000, which would be considered a small business loan.

    Step

Create a five-year business plan and try to secure at least 20 percent for a down payment. Some lenders offer options that don t require a down payment. But in reality, purchasing a business is comparable to purchasing a new home, which often requires a down payment. The five-year business plan must include a financial statement, a profit and loss statement and a statement of projected income. For an existing business, the numbers that are included in these statements are crucial.

    Step

Compare business loan terms, rates and conditions among different financial institutions. Decide on one and make an appointment.

    Step

Prepare yourself for your initial interview with the financial institution of your choice by being ready to convince the financial associate of how much you want this. For example, inform them of whether you re willing risk your own money or other assets. Have your business plan ready to present, as well. This will show your commitment to the task. Remember, your business plan requires accurate numbers and a well thought out plan of action.

How to Recover Data from Failed Raid 1? #recover #data #from

    #

Restore Data from Failed Raid 1

RAID 1 also known as Disk mirroring, is the replication of data to two or more disks. It is good option for applications that require high performance such as transactional applications, email and operating systems. While using RAID 1, an exact copy of data is created on two or more discs. This technique will give more reliability and read performance. The only issue is storage capacity (the total storage used by RAID 1 will be equal to capacity of the smallest disk).

However, RAID users may struggle a lot if data gets inaccessible due to Raid 1 drive failure. Let us know in which situations Raid 1 drive get failed on a Windows computer:

    • Occurrence of more number of bad sectors on hard disk may result in raid 1 drive failure

How to Get Airline Deals for a Family of Four

Investigate cheap airfares so your family trip is affordable and memorable. (Photo: family on vacation image by Larry Roberg from Fotolia.com )

    Related Articles

When traveling as a family, you ve got enough to worry about without adding pricey tickets to the list. Corralling exuberant kids eager to race down concourses and finding ingenious ways to stop them from kicking seat backs on flights should be your only worries. Control what you can. Find deals to get your family of four out and about without savaging the family budget. Saving money can be a good incentive for traveling with kids.

    Step 1

Select travel dates that fall in the middle of the week, day and weekend. Trade optimal business travel times for offbeat departure time slots, avoiding Monday mornings, Friday evenings and Sunday evenings when travel-weary executives rule.

    Step 2

Opt for layovers. Obtain lower rates while using these opportunities to help kids dissipate energy in-between flights. Bring a jump rope in your carry-on. Pry hand-held games from little hands while on the ground so you find additional reasons to appreciate your cut-rate tickets.

    Step 3

Be the early bird and get the lowest prices available when you book four seats for your family members 21 days in advance of your departure date. Use this lead time to your advantage by getting rock-bottom price tags and a bonus: booking early practically guarantees keeping your family seated in close proximity on all legs of your trip.

    Step 4

Use your favorite web search engine to find and then peruse top discount airfare consolidator sites (e.g. Kayak, Mobissimo) to get the skinny on penny-pinching tickets for your family of four. Employ keywords like last minute flight deals to sleuth out fare reductions if consolidators don t do the trick, particularly if you re able to pull kids out of school for spur-of-the-moment travel opportunities.

    Step 5

Buy four reduced-fare tickets directly from airlines working hard to compete with consolidators and discounters. Ask ticket agents for the lowest possible fair, not economy flights. Never equate purchasing a ticket on the Internet with getting the cheapest fare when searching for budget-pleasing tickets.

    Step 6

Compare Internet brokerage sites (Priceline, etc.) that offer you an opportunity to bid for the four airline tickets your family requires. Exchange the cut rate you receive for losing control over travel times. Weigh this option carefully if interrupting a nap schedule has the potential to turn a heavenly flight into an unpleasant experience.

Find bargain flights for your family of four within the pages of major publications that regularly rival Internet sites for price cuts. Consult the travel section of the New York Times, Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune and USA Today to compare low-cost fares. Be on the lookout for half-round-trip call-outs in newspaper ads so you re not signing on the dotted line for tickets that won t get you back home.

Investigate travel packages — one-price deals that save time and money by bundling food, flight and lodgings together for one low price. Check out Have Kids, Will Travel (havekidswilltravel.net) to locate all-in-one escapes to Veil, Jackson Hole and destinations in the West. Explore Disney packages to theme parks for some awesome deals. Break out line items if these deals seem too good to be true. Don t be surprised if kids fly free packages lull you into believing that flying as a herd can be fun.

How to Get Cheap First Class Airline Tickets

First-class flights often comes with gourmet food, more legroom and top-notch service. (Photo: greek gourmet food-moussaka 4 image by Svenja98 from Fotolia.com )

    Items you will need

    • Credit card with elite status Membership in airline loyalty program

    Step 1

Sign up for airline newsletters to receive word of sales, coupons and discounts. Most carriers will have an email sign up on the website #039;s front page, or you can sign up for compilation newsletters from services like TravelZoo.com. Airlines often run events featuring cut-rate deals on flights, but only for those savvy enough to read their bulletins.

    Step 2

Fly a particular airline repeatedly to build frequent-flier miles. Accumulated travel equals loyalty in the eyes of a carrier, which often rewards that loyalty with free or cheap first-class upgrades. To obtain a domestic seat with just miles, you #039;ll need between 40,000 and 60,000 miles for most airlines, according to Erica Silverstein of USA Today. For an upgrade from an existing coach reservation, the amount drops to around 15,000 miles for a domestic flight.

    Step 3

Fly with an airline that has a low-price first-class section. Low-cost carriers have a corresponding cheap first-class section compared with legacy or luxury carriers. These airlines often have loyalty programs that record flights or miles, so the trip can come in handy later on.

Purchase a special type of ticket that allows a first-class upgrade. One type, known as a K-UP or Y-UP, is an economy fare that allows travel in first class if there is space available, according to international travel tip site Air Travel Genius. You also can purchase a full-fare economy ticket that comes with the option of a complimentary upgrade, if space allows. Silverstein says to check before purchasing, since some airlines mandate that upgrades are limited to elite fliers.

Use a credit card that grants elite status as a perk. If you use the card to book your flight, the airline might discount the cost of the flight, give an automatic upgrade, or award substantial miles on the purchase. This option is available only to those who qualify for these hard-to-get credit cards.

How To Get Dirt Cheap Airline Tickets – Stumble Forward #ramsay

#how to get cheap airline tickets
    #

How To Get Dirt Cheap Airline Tickets

However a lot of times to take these kinds of vacations it requires buying airline tickets in order to get to your destination.  In this article I m going to share what I ve done to score dirt cheap airline tickets.

    Start Looking Ahead Of Time

The first thing I always do is look ahead of time.  In fact you can start looking for really cheap airline tickets 330 days ahead of time.  Now I know what your thinking, I m not going to buy my airline tickets that early,  and I m not telling you to.

What I like to do is once I roughly know the time I m going to take the trip is look up the current going rates for the tickets and make a mental note of the price.  Then every couple of days I will keep checking the price.  What this does for me is it allows me to know what is a dirt cheap airline ticket and what s not.

I once flew to Los Angles from Ohio and it was going to run around $280 round trip but I knew if I could get the tickets for anything less than that it would be a deal and I ended up finding some for around $240 because  I would relentlessly check ticket prices .  That s what knowing your ticket value can help you do.

    The Day You Fly

The next thing you need to look at is the day you will fly out.  This can make a big difference in the cost you will pay for a ticket.  In fact the two cheapest days to fly out are Tuesday and Wednesday typically.

To prove my point I was recently helping a close relative find an airline ticket who was flying from Ohio to North Carolina.  The cost for her to fly on the weekend was around $205, the cost for her to fly on a Tuesday was $150.  So in this case it s obvious that it would be better wait a few more days to save $55.

    The Time Of The Year

Third, as important as the day is concerned the time of the year you leave is  also very important.  However this a lot of times also depends on the destination.

For example, if wanted to take a trip to a place in the Caribbean and you were leaving in February you would likely pay more for your ticket.  On the other hand if you left in September during the peak of hurricane season you would likely get some great dirt cheap tickets.

    Stand By

The next option you should consider is stand by.  This is an option that airlines will offer when you re traveling because their flight may be overbooked or to heavy.  Airlines will then usually ask people if they would like to fly stand by and a lot of times offer a free ticket option which will allow you to fly anywhere in the continental United State.

However a lot of times these tickets are only good for one year and may have some restriction like stand by only.  To get these deals ahead of time contact the airline you are flying on ask if their is any stand by option available.

    Get Rewards

Finally the last option is to get an airline miles reward credit card, like the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card.  These cards work great if you want to cut down on ticket prices and fly for really cheap.

With the Venture card you will get double miles on every purchase you make every day.  They will give you 10,000 bonus miles when you spend a thousand buck in the first three months, and best of all you can fly free with no blackout dates anywhere you want to go. That sounds like a great deal.

In fact a few people I know will actually charge as many of their monthly expenses they can to this credit card to build up enough miles to fly literally for free every time they go some place.

    Share Your Story

Getting a dirt cheap airline ticket can be an easy thing to do if you follow the great tips I ve laid out for you here.  In fact, you can save even more if you combine all of these tips and get them cheaper yet.

If you have used a tip I gave in this article or would like to share your own feel free to leave a comment and share what you know.

How To Get The Cheapest Flights Ever #travel #extras

Get The Cheapest Flights Ever With These Five Tricks

Finding the cheapest flight ever is the internet s Holy Grail. We know they re out there, but finding low fares seems to be a combination of voodoo, luck, and circumstance.

However, it is possible to get the cheapest flights ones top flight finders like Expedia and Hotwire won t show you. And if you plan ahead and employ some high-level bargain ninja tactics, you will find the cheapest flights ever.

First Trick: The Cheapest Flights Really Do Depend On Timing

The first thing any seasoned business traveler will tell you about finding the best fares is an oft-repeated bit of travel lore that happens to ring true. But after midnight on a Tuesday.

So why is this particular bit of advice so common when booking a trip? Because it works!

While many of the whys and hows of scoring cheap flights is indeed a mystery, we do know that airlines tend to follow certain patterns and that after midnight on Tuesday, it is on for a bargainista.

Travel expert Peter Greenberg explains :

some, but not all, of the majors will match that fare. By late Monday, depending on how that new fare is doing in the marketplace, Airline C might jump into the battle and offer an even lower fare, so look for all the other airlines to rush to match that one – usually by Tuesday – and the war is on. Prices might go even lower on Wednesday. And that s when you strike.

Second Trick: Browse Incognito For Stealth Fares

So, you ve been around the internet a bit. You Facebook all day, you shop, you check your mail and it s here we get a bit more insight into how to hack a cheap flight.

Just like when you shop for sneakers or cars, algorithms are watching. And airlines will know when you might be willing to pay a bit more for that flight.

Yes, the airfares you see are based on lots of factors. And if you want to see the cheapest fares and have already been shopping around, you have to trick those tricksters back.

Google s Chrome browser is highly regarded as a top choice for general internet use and one easy to use feature is key in getting the cheapest flights available. If you right-click any link, the option to Open Link In An Incognito Window will be the second choice on the drop-down menu.

By shopping for flights incognito. you ensure your previous window-shopping doesn t hide the cheapest fares.

Third Trick: Skip The Big Sites For Really Cheap Fares

Everything good on the internet, even the cheapest flights, is discovered first by geeks.

Expedia, Hotwire, Priceline and their brethren are great starting points for finding flights. But if you want a really nerdy approach to getting the lowest fares, a new travel search engine uses math to show you your best options.

H ipmunk is a newer flight search matrix co-founded in part by Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman. And if you re flexible about dates, get ready for the best flight pricing visual available on the web.

Hipmunk doesn t open up twenty windows and clog up your screen. The adorable site mascot appears during a quick search, after you enter your travel parameters (one-way, round-trip, or pricegraph ) and then the flight shopping fun begins.

Fourth Trick: Flexibility Plus Search Skills Equals The Absolute Cheapest Flight

If you ve got to be in Denver at 7 PM on August 5, this cheap fare trick won t help. But most people have a little wiggle room for travel planning, and when you know how to use flexibility to its utmost, cheap flights abound.

As we mentioned, Hipmunk is a great tool for flight searching. It even sorts flights by agony, so if you want to pay a little (a little, don t go crazy) more for no layovers or shorter flights, that s all worked into the sorting style for your fares. Super cool.

We also briefly touched on the pricegraph function that makes Hipmunk so useful.

Instead of keeping track of all the cheapest flights per search, Hipmunk puts them on a 90-day visual graph, so you can select the absolute cheapest fare available.

The graphing element of flight search is unbelievably useful to find the cheapest flights, enabling you to see the peaks and ebbs of airfare pricing in a three month window.

    But wait! There s more!

Need to travel outside the 90-day box? There s a trick to see flights over a longer period, but it s a manual workaround. In the address bar, the dates you ve selected are part of the address. Alter them to add more days to either end, and you will see a larger graph.

Fifth Trick: Stay An Extra Day

Flying at low-peak or low-demand times will shave even more dollars off your fare. Tuesday through Thursday are the cheapest days to fly, so if you can stretch to a longer stay, you can save beaucoup bucks on your flight.

Not all tips will work, but combining these strategies will definitely help in your search for the cheapest flight ever.

How to Get Last Minute Flight Deals

    Step 1

Be flexible with your flight dates. A cheap flight often requires some flexibility on departure date or the willingness to wait on standby at the airport for an open seat. Since reward often comes with a higher level of risk, the savvy last-minute flier must embrace spontaneity.

    Step 2

Use Internet travel search sites to find flights departing from a range of local airports. Just a bit of flexibility in distance can save you hundreds of dollars per ticket. For instance, rather than conducting a search for flights leaving only from Newark, New Jersey, look up departures from the New York City metro area. You will see prices for Newark, JFK, LaGuardia and other area airports. This technique could save hundreds of dollars, especially for those willing to drive an extra half-hour or so.

    Step 3

Embrace late nights or early mornings for cheap tickets. The Washington Post states: The cheapest flights also tend to be first thing in the morning or late at night. These flights also have a high number of standby, or absentee, seats.

Shop last-minute airline ticket discount sites that specialize in a particular region of the world. One site, Airtech.com, offers last-minute, flexible schedule tickets to Hawaii and Europe, and often finds tickets from smaller carriers that larger sites don t list. Kate Siber of Away.com writes, Think of it as the budget traveler s way of flying on standby. If you need to be in a certain city at a certain time, Airtech ain t for you.

Travel alone. It s simple to nab one cheap ticket, but much harder to find four or five. If traveling in a group, coordinate a meeting at the destination and allow a liberal window of time for arrivals.

Self Assessment tax returns: Who must send a tax return #how

    #

    Self Assessment tax returns

    2. Who must send a tax return

The tax year is from 6 April to 5 April the following year.

You’ll need to send a tax return if, in the last tax year:

    • you were self-employed – you can deduct allowable expenses
    • you got £2,500 or more in untaxed income, for example from tips or renting out a property – contact the helpline if it was less than £2,500
    • your income from savings or investments was £10,000 or more before tax
    • your income from dividends from shares was £10,000 or more before tax
    • you made profits from selling things like shares, a second home or other chargeable assets and need to pay Capital Gains Tax
    • you were a company director – unless it was for a non-profit organisation (such as a charity) and you didn’t get any pay or benefits, like a company car
    • your income (or your partner’s) was over £50,000 and one of you claimed Child Benefit
    • you had income from abroad that you needed to pay tax on
    • you lived abroad and had a UK income
    • your income was over £100,000
    • you were a trustee of a trust or registered pension scheme
    • you had a P800 from HMRC saying you didn’t pay enough tax last year – and you didn’t pay what you owe through your tax code or with a voluntary payment

Certain other people may need to send a return (for example religious ministers or Lloyd’s underwriters) – you can check whether you need to. You usually won’t need to send a return if your only income is from your wages or pension.

If you’ve been told to send a return

If you get an email or letter from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC ) telling you to send a return, you must send it – even if you don’t have any tax to pay.

If you used to send a tax return but don’t need to send one for the last tax year, you can contact HMRC to close your Self Assessment account.

    Claiming tax relief

Fill in a tax return to claim money back from HMRC for:

    Registering for Self Assessment

You need to register if you didn’t send a tax return last year. There are different ways to register if you’re:

If you’re new to Self Assessment, you’ll need to keep records (for example bank statements or receipts) so you can fill in your tax return correctly.

    1. Freelance writer / photographer

This may mean travel writer. but it doesn t have to.

Let s say you were a banker; why not start submitting articles to finance mags and journals? The point is to become location independent, and you don t have to write about travel to do so.

If you do want to write about travel for a living, check out MatadorU . Matador s online travel writing, photography, and filmmaking school.

    2. ESL teacher

These gigs easier to find in some countries than others, and requirements vary from a bachelor s degree in any field to a master s in education plus TESL certification. Based on my own personal experience, finding a job in Korea was the easiest and in many ways (when cost of living is taken into account) the best paying. Japan, China, Thailand, and Vietnam are also popular options.

South and Central American countries want ESL teachers, but getting the visa is a bit tougher than it is in Asia. There are plenty of gigs in Europe as well, but in general the requirements are more strict.

Recruiting companies such as Footprints can be extremely helpful if you re looking for an ESL gig; another option is to hunt them down on forums like Dave s ESL Cafe .
