Easing into Bastar

I had a great fun trip from 20th Dec (evening) till 2nd Jan (morning). Roughly did this loop: Delhi-Pendra Road (for Amarkantak)- Raipur-Kondagaon-Jagdalpur (day trips to Tokapal, Dantewada, Chitrakot, Kutumsar) – Bhubaneswar – Konarak – Chilika – Delhi. When I came back, I calculated using Google maps that the total kilometers clocked were about 4000! Travel was a combination of Train (most of the time), Bus (quite a bit), Bike (both self drive and pillion), Boats (couple rides), Auto and finally a car on a self-drive basis. Read More

India overview

When to fly to India

Deciding on the best time to take cheap flights to India depends on where you intend to go. India is such a vast country and has such a range of climates that almost every season has its peak time and off-peak time.

Peak Season:

Most travellers arrive on cheap flights to India between September (when it stops raining in many parts of India, but not in the southern part of India where there are winter monsoons) and March. December and January can be very cold. In the south of India, winter weather is still warm although it may get chilly at night.

Off Season:

Temperatures between April and August are very high, sometimes unbearable. Savvy travellers head to the hill stations where it is cooler. The monsoons last from June through September.

Travellers taking cheap flights to India will discover a country that almost defies description. The world’s second-most populous country is a fascinating blend of contrasts, traditions, legends and mystery. Home to more than one billion people, and the birthplace of four world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism), there are about 20 languages spoken. It’s the world’s seventh-largest country by area, extending from the Himalayas in the north to the tropical beaches of the south. Its 27 Unesco World Heritage sites include the Taj Mahal, one of the new seven wonders of the world, Agra Fort and Humayun’s Tomb. You would need a lifetime to experience all that the country has to offer. Luckily, in India, it is said, they treat their guests as they welcome their gods.

Its festivals and celebrations are riots of colour and noise. Entire communities celebrate festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Id, Christmas or Mahaveer Jayanthi. Getting around between Indian’s largest cities – Mumbai, Delhi. Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru – and smallest towns has never been easier.

India climate

India is a big country and the climate can vary depending on where you are. Winters are dry and cool and last from December through February. Summer is still dry, but warms up quite a bit. The southwest monsoon season is from June through September; the northeast monsoon season lasts from October to November.

Getting around India

One of the best and most popular ways of getting around India is by air. Air India has a comprehensive network, and low-cost airlines have become very popular with Indians and tourists alike.

India has the second-largest rail network in the world and moves more than 15 million people each day. Bus services augment rail services to reach the most remote parts of India.

It’s more usual to rent a car and a driver than it is to rent a car. Taxis are available at inexpensive, daily rates.

In the cities, there are good public transportation networks – buses, trains, and metro (Kolkata for example). Auto-rickshaw is another good way of getting around. They are cheaper than taxis and are able to nip through congested city streets. Agree a price before your journey starts. Cheaper still – but slower – is the cycle rickshaw.

India insider information

  • Tamil Nadu’s giant temple cities, such as Madurai, Tiruchchirappalli, Thanjavur and Chidambaram, are breathtaking, its hill stations beautiful. The pace of life is leisurely and Tamils are a welcoming people.
  • Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) was a French colony until 1950. A French influence can be discerned in its cuisine but the seafood alone is reason to book cheap flights to India.
  • Goa. on the western coast of India, is famous for its beaches, architecture and places of worship. Portugal held it as a colony until 1961 and its diverse cuisine features strong Portuguese flavours as well as traditional Indian spices.
  • The Golden Triangle offers just a taste of India. The cities making up this triangle are Delhi. visit for the British Empire-era buildings, Agra for the Taj Mahal, the finest example of Mughal architecture, built in memory of the Mughal Emperor’s favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and Jaipur. the former capital of Rajasthan.
  • Rajasthan. the land of the Maharajas, is famous for its majestic forts, temples and havelis (private homes). Many people in Rajasthan are Rajputs (sons of kings). Despite the abolition of royal titles in 1970, many families have held on to their political power and local influence. A homestay in one of the ornate havelis is a wonderful way to soak up the atmosphere of this region.
  • Kerala. on the Arabian Sea Coast (or, more exotically, the Malabar Coast) at the southern tip of India, is its greenest state. A destination known for its efforts at eco-tourism, it is a place of luscious vegetation, beautiful beaches, hill stations, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. The backwaters region runs parallel to the coast, a beautiful region with interconnected rivers, lakes and canals.
  • In Wagah the nightly closing of the border between India and Pakistan is a sight not to be missed. It is a very theatrical event. Indian and Pakistani soldiers march and strut and posture before lowering the flags. The event is watched by several thousand spectators.

    U.S. Relations With India

More information about India is available on the India Page and from other Department of State publications and other sources listed at the end of this fact sheet.

    U.S.-INDIA RELATIONS

President Obama has called India one of the defining partnerships of the 21 st century, one which will be vital to U.S. strategic interests in Asia-Pacific and across the globe. Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama all visited India, underscoring the increasing importance of the bilateral relationship. Our relationship is rooted in common values, including the rule of law, respect for diversity, and democratic government. We have a shared interest in promoting global security, stability, and economic prosperity through trade, investment, and connectivity. The United States and India have a common interest in the free flow of global trade and commerce, including through the vital sea lanes of the Indian Ocean.

The U.S. supports India s critical role as a leader in maintaining regional stability. Security ties are reflected in growing bilateral defense and counterterrorism cooperation. The United States and India also are developing their defense partnership through military sales and joint research, co-production and co-development efforts.

The U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue, launched in 2009, was expanded in 2015 to become the U.S.-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue. It provides opportunities to strengthen collaboration in areas including energy, climate change, trade, education, and counterterrorism. The inaugural meeting was held in September 2015 .

The strength of people to people linkages between the United States and India has come to define the indispensable relationship between our two countries. The increased cooperation of state and local officials to create ties has enhanced engagement in education. Additionally, state to state and city to city engagements have created new partnerships in business and the private sector and enhance our robust government to government engagement.

    Bilateral Economic Relations

The United States is one of India s largest trade and investment partners. U.S.- India bilateral trade in goods and services and the stock of Indian FDI in the United States have increased over the last decade, supporting thousands of U.S. jobs. Bilateral trade between our two countries is up since we began our Strategic Dialogue.

The United States and India are continuing efforts to deepen the economic relationship, improve investor confidence, and support economic growth in both countries. India s market-oriented economic reforms have included an increasingly liberal foreign investment regime in many sectors.

On energy cooperation, the United States and India are committed to working collaboratively in bilateral and multilateral fora to help ensure mutual energy security, combat global climate change, and support the development of low-carbon economies that will create opportunities and fuel job growth in both countries. The two countries consult regularly on the future of global oil and gas markets, expanding sustainable energy access to support jobs and economic growth in both countries, collaborating in research and technology, and increasing U.S. exports of clean energy technology.

U.S. exports to India include diamonds and gold, aircraft, machinery, and optic and medical instruments. U.S. imports from India include diamonds, pharmaceutical products, oil, agricultural products, organic chemicals, and textile articles. U.S. direct investment in India is led by the professional, scientific, technical services, manufacturing finance/insurance, and information sectors. India direct investment in the U.S. is primarily concentrated in the professional, scientific, and technical services, and banking sectors.

India s Membership in International Organizations

India and the United States share membership in a variety of international organizations, including the United Nations, G-20, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and World Trade Organization. The United States supports a reformed UN Security Council that includes India as a permanent member. India is an ASEAN dialogue partner, an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development partner under its Enhanced Engagement program, and an observer to the Organization of American States. India is also a member of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), of which the United States is a dialogue partner.

    Bilateral Representation

Principal U.S. embassy officials are listed on the embassy web site and in the Department s Key Officers List .

India maintains an embassy in the United States at 2107 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20008 (tel. 202-939-7000).

At ebookers, we make it easy to find the cheapest flights with a single search. Our travel planner tools offer a way to take care of all your booking needs in one place, so you don’t have to worry about finding hotels and transportation on different websites.

As one of the largest countries in the world, India has a wide variety of airports. Travellers who are visiting the northern part of the country often fly into Delhi International Airport. If you are flying into the southern part of India, Anna International Airport in Chennai is a convenient destination. In the eastern part of the country, look for flights to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Calcutta. Visitors to the western part of India often fly into Mumbai, where the large Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport serves thousands of travellers. Within the country, most large cities have airports that are served by a variety of international and domestic airlines.

Once you get to India, the range of transportation options can be dizzying. The moment you step out of the airport, you will be presented with everything from rental cars to rickshaws. For most travellers, the safest way to travel is by taxi. Before you put your luggage into a taxi or get into the car, talk to the driver and agree on a price to your destination. In doing so, you can avoid being charged an unreasonable price. If you need to take discount domestic flights within India, you can book them with ebookers before or during your trip.

    Food in India

After a long flight to India, most travellers are interested in finding food. Cuisine in India varies by region, and the options available in the southern part of the country can be considerably different from the food in the northern part. When you arrive, give yourself time for your stomach to get used to the local spices, which can be intense. Eating from street carts is a cheap and safe way to sample different dishes, but make sure that items are cooked in front of you to eliminate any concerns about bacteria.

India is a large country, with an endless array of attractions for the adventurous traveller. In the north, the Indian section of the Himalaya Mountains offers hiking and unparalleled views. Near Delhi, the Taj Mahal is popular with visitors from around the world and is a highlight of any trip. Near Mumbai, the Bollywood film district offers interesting tours.

Whether you are taking a trip for business or holiday, ebookers can help you find cheap flights to India.

What You Need to Know Before You Travel to India

By Sharell Cook. India Travel Expert

Sharell grew up in a small country town in Australia, but has been traveling and exploring different cultures since her early 20s. She first visited India in 2000, and found it to be a complete assault on her senses, confronting but strangely uplifting and exhilarating. This hasn t changed, only now Sharell lives in cosmopolitan Mumbai where she writes full time and grapples with Hindi. Read more

There are a number of things you should do before you travel to India, but where to start with it all? These steps and information will help you get your trip planned and organized in no time at all, and hopefully take some of the stress out of your preparations.

Decide Where You Want to Visit

    Book Trains and Flights

Advance reservations for flights aren t as necessary as for trains, however many airlines do offer discounts for 14 or 21 day advance ticket purchases.

    Book Accommodations

While it can be possible to get great deals on hotels by walking in and negotiating the rate in many places, it s a good idea to book your accommodations in advance for major cities, particularly Delhi. International flights often arrive at night and it s easy to feel disorientated in an unfamiliar place. Plenty of people prey on unsuspecting tourists by taking them to inferior quality hotels where they get paid a commission for doing so.

    Visit Your Doctor

As India is a developing nation, health is an important concern of travelers. You should visit your doctor well in advance of your trip to India to find out what precautions you need to take against certain illnesses. The medications and immunizations that are necessary will greatly depend on the regions you intend to visit (for example, some areas are particularly malaria prone, while others have very little risk of infection) and time of year (during and straight after the monsoon is the riskiest time for health problems).

    Get Your Visa

All visitors need a visa for India, except citizens of neighboring Nepal and Bhutan. There is limited provision for visas on arrival to citizens of certain countries. However, most people will need to obtain a visa before arriving in India. Visitors staying in India for less than 72 hours can obtain a Transit Visa, otherwise an Indian Tourist Visa is necessary. The Indian Embassy has started outsourcing the Indian visa application process to private processing agencies in many countries to make it more efficient.

Familarize Yourself With India s Culture

If you re visiting India for the first time, you re probably feeling a bit apprehensive, not knowing what to expect. The risk of culture shock can be overcome to a certain extent by reading as much as you can about India, as well as watching documentaries and other programs on India. In order to to be as prepared as possible, you should also familiarize yourself with as much information as you can about scams, dangers, and annoyances.

    Decide What to Pack

When packing for India, it s important to take into account the country s conservative dress standards. Some people prefer to take very little to India and instead buy what they need to over there. Others choose to bring as much as possible with them from home because the quality is better. Some of the things that you should give consideration to are the type of luggage (backpack or suitcase) to take, clothes, shoes, medicine, personal care items, money (ATMs are now widely available in India), and other useful items such as plug adapters, flashlights, and padlocks.

Taste of India Tour – Imaginative Traveller – India Message Board

    #imaginative traveller
    #

Hi WellingtonKiwi,The carriage was divided into compartments with just curtains across to the dividing corridor. We rested more than slept, originally when we joined the train in Agra we were assigned a top and bottom bunk but the gentleman opposite on the lower bunk asked if we d like to change and he went to the upper bunk above me which was very kind. The remaining bunk didn t seem to be taken at first but I think the guard must have let someone have the use of it (probably for a fee!!), and there were constant coming and goings during station stops as different passengers changed out. I suppose at least you can lie down and the linen for the bed wasn t too bad although the padded seat wasn t exactly the height of luxury (not that we expected it to be). The guard kept a good check on the carriage, we took a bicycle lock which we passed through the handles of our bags and onto a hook under our bunks. However our bags weren t that light and it would have been a miracle if anyone could have tried to take them away without being notice. Just be prepared for an experience, if there is an option for a 1 a/c carriage you are in a compartment with a door. Let me know if you want any more information and I ll be glad to supply it.

I’ve waited 10 years to do my post-graduation. I dropped out of a distance education programme, because I couldn’t attend contact classes. I have been waiting for something like this. VPS Hosting Server

    Virtual Private Server:-

For every business, it’s important to ensure a robust infrastructure so that all the resources can perform their level best. In the present IT scenario, managed VPS hosting is a prime requirement for almost every business. Considering this, Ricoh offers a wide range of virtual private server plans.

With advanced technology and customized plans, the virtual private servers offer the developers, the organizations and the designers more speed, stability and power. This enables them to run their websites and applications successfully. Moreover, we make the job of managing the servers easier for you as we do it on your behalf.

We offer absolutely customizable VPS plans so that our customers can choose one, based on their requirements. Whether you want semi-managed VPS plans or fully managed ones, we offer both the types so that your needs are perfectly met. Although the semi-managed plans that we offer don’t include a hosting control panel, but these include complete assistance with operating system, hardware and basic configuration issues. On the other hand, if you opt for a fully managed plan, you are entitled to complete assistance about any configuration request or any issue.

    VPS Hosting Pricing Plan

    ADVANCED HOSTING SOLUTIONS

We know that for most businesses, online promotion is a very important aspect, given the wide audience to which they have to cater to. But before you can promote your business through your website‚ it is imperative to choose a reliable service provider from whom you would avail the web hosting solutions. Since we offer a wide range of advanced and secure hosting solutions, you can rely on us.

    HIGH TRAFFIC

For websites that deal with high traffic, a VPS hosting is a preferable and affordable hosting solution since the resources are scalable and flexible. We provide you with completely scalable solutions so that you can manage and allot the resources according to the needs of your website/application. Whether it’s about handling high traffic or expanding it as your business grows, you can easily handle the entire matter.

    LOW MAINTENANCE COST

Since dedicated servers are quite costly and need daily maintenance, we consider VPS as a better alternative. We simply allot the required disk space and bandwidth to the organization and maintain the system on our own, allowing the organization to focus on their core business issues.

    24X7 SUPPORT

Ricoh provides Virtual Private Servers with a guaranteed 24/7 support from skilled personnel at zero maintenance cost, thus ensuring a reliable, powerful and hassle-free hosting solution for you.

    BETTER CUSTOMIZABILITY

At Ricoh, we ensure complete customizability of VPS, as per the requirements of the customer. We provide each of our customers with a control panel which can be used to scale the resources, allocated as per his needs. Also, we allow the users to create sub-domains as and when they need to.

    HIGHLY SECURED

Ricoh’s VPS solutions ensure improved security and performance and this is why it is preferred by enterprises that are running on a tight budget. We ensure there is no unauthorized access of data or data theft, by giving complete control over the resources and data to the users.

    Benefits of Virtual Private Server

    Improved Reliability And Scalability

It’s known to all that when you host your website or application on a shared server, the performance and uptime of that might get impacted by the other applications or websites that are hosted on the same server. On the other hand, if you host your application on a virtual private server, it will help you enjoy improved reliability and stability. At times, hosting on a shared server also poses great risk to your business.

More Control as Compared to Shared Hosting

While hosting your website or application, won’t you like to get full root access to the environment? Well, a VPS offers exactly the same. In this way, if you need to install a custom software package, you can do the same on your own. Unlike a shared hosting system, you won’t have to wait for the hosting provider’s permission. The shared web servers are usually optimized for the best possible service and security. Due to the different security limitations, you can’t modify the application just the way you want. With a virtual private server, you can actually avoid all these issues.

    Efficient Use of Resources

One of the main advantages of moving to a VPS is that you can make the best possible use of all your resources. With a dedicated server hosting, you can take all the resources of a server. This ensures you are the only person to make use of the power of the entire server. This undoubtedly results in improved services, leading to better user experience.

    Improved Scalability

Businesses that are going to launch a number of new websites get benefitted with a VPS. There are certain websites that are already established, and no longer expect a huge difference when it comes to the website traffic. Unlike these, websites that are newly launched expect a lot of traffic. This is where a virtual private sever helps you best since this acts as a reliable hosting resource with minimal technical issues and without any or minimum possible downtime.

Tourists can witness awe-inspiring valleys, ravines, fresh water tributaries, snow-capped mountain peaks undulating meadows in the incredibly romantic states of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Travelling south-west one enters the desert state of Rajasthan that is dotted with age-old historical monuments which provide interesting insights into India’s medieval past. In Central India, the temple town of Khajuraho mesmerizes tourists with its erotic stone sculptures that signify cosmic unity through the gratification of earthly desires.

Travel Tips for holidays in India

    • Many parts of the country experience extreme weather conditions both in summers as well as winters. Research the internet before booking flights to India.
    • Although the country is largely considered to be safe for tourists, travellers should exercise caution before venturing into places which have for long been marred by the unrest, riots, terrorist attacks and insurgency. Check out the FCO’s advice with respect to the same.
    • Consult your GP and get all the important immunizations and vaccinations couple of months before you travel. Many parts of the country including the cities of tourist interest are known to have standards for hygiene and food far less than those observed in the western countries.
    • The country has not been able to free itself from the clutches of Malaria, so carry the necessary medication along.
    • Getting hospitalised in India is one thing no tourist would want. However, in case you do land up in one, ensure that its one of the renowned hospitals.
    • Hotels in India offer a wide range of choice. Check the details of the hotel on the internet or ask for advice before booking a cheap hotel in a remote area.
    • While at the destination, leave your important and valuable belongings at the place of stay if you feel it is safe to do so. Most tourist spots in India witness incidents of pick pocketing and snatching.
    • Always carry a copy of your passport or any other form of identification proof while travelling in India or any other foreign destination.

    India: A Brief Etiquette Guide

India being a culturally conservative country, expects its visitors to adhere to certain established cultural code of conduct. Though it is not possible to list out all the norms and etiquettes that a guest is expected to follow, as a foreigner you can find your way through by observing the habits and mannerisms followed by others.

Indians are, in general, very warm and friendly towards foreigners and even if you err in your social interactions, it will be ignored with a smile. However, keep the following things in mind, once you land in India:-

    • ‘Namaste’ or ‘Namaskar’ is the most common greeting and is said with joined palms held near the heart and a slight bow of head.
    • Shaking hands is a common way of greeting in India, but keep in mind that Indian women do not always prefer to shake hands with men. Wait for them to extend their hand.
    • In most households, you will have to take off your shoes before entering the house. This practice is strictly followed in all the places of worships such as temples, mosques and gurudwaras across the country.
    • In India, hierarchy is most important so, greet the eldest or the senior most person first.
    • Most Indian food is eaten by hands, for some dishes you would require a tablespoon and fork.
    • Food is often served in a particular order with the guest of honour being served first. Women typically serve the men and eat later.
    • In any lunch or dinner you attend, leave a small amount of food on your plate which indicates that you are satisfied. Finishing all your food means that you are still hungry.

Why To Hire Graphic Designer From India? – Ritesh Patil –

Why To Hire Graphic Designer From India?

Graphic designers are highly sought after in India and hire graphic designer India. and the real reasons are because of the silver screen industry who procures immeasurable developers who are talented in realistic plans. Sight and sound divisions, and other mastery, for example, kid’s shows, book cover outlines, magazines and other enlivened funnies are well in required of graphic designers.

We need them who comprehends our necessities and our desires from that individual, encounters does not much make a difference, but rather it is prescribed if there are a few encounters on their resumes. Following a time of months, our gathering individuals will offer a possibility for the best entertainer to educate the other newcomers.

We have an unfathomable sorted out group who will take the procedure to a more up to date level, by that we have mentors and developers who are as of now prepared and all around adjusted and take in our fundamental requests and necessities who will thusly improve you the same or pioneers for tomorrow associations to the extent the realistic plans are concerned.

Web specialists are uncommon to discover, particularly the ones who are capable and effective and that is the reason we are anticipating contract graphic designers at present. While different new organizations have sprouted now who prepare their understudies on realistic planning despite everything we think it’s best to keep them overhauled with our day today learning on the subject.

Our organization concentrates on intrigued representatives, we will probably assemble the gathering who are demonstrating the readiness to get into the work in spite of the encounters. We prescribe the intrigue and pick that over any experience since we trust that an accomplished can be picked up, yet without enthusiasm at first there is no hope.

We additionally have site developers who are working alongside programming designers and in other open source users so by cooperating each gathering knows about their connected work so one can help oneself when alternate has a bug in the work

We know about the claim for graphic designers everywhere throughout the globe, and we glad to tell them this. Since we have faith in that our managers ought to know the esteem about them and by doing as such we build up our association with our bosses through which we can focus on a lot of customers too.

We sign in our agreement with our representatives not in light of the customers we have, but rather on the execution and the ability of the individual we procure. Graphic designers do get his or her motivations through numerous ways. One is in the addition of their pay and the other is their positions.

Our witticism is to offer learning to our representatives, make them mindful of their handled work and since many organizations are expecting for the nature of the work and hire graphic designer India, when the software developers are having a change of brain in picking the organizations we’re certain the entire gathering will have enough involvement and the information also. We need just devoted developers who are pleasant to work any movements, in the rotational premise.

    INDIA TRAVEL TIPS

Foreign Nationals visiting India are required to possess a valid Indian Visa. A passport with validity for six months from date of departure; is must. There is no provision of Visa on Arrival in India hence obtain your Visa in your resident country before your departure.

Keep photocopies of your travel documents at different places like in hotel. You may also scan them and keep them in your mail box online.

It is highly recommended to drink only mineral water (bottled water). Many of Indian cuisine is a tad too spicy therefore indulge in these delights only if you have the stomach for it. There are plenty of non-spicy cuisines and delicacies to choose from.

It is advisable to keep insect repellent cream. If you are allergic to dust, be sure to carry medication with you. Sunscreen is another must-have.

In India, public display of affection is not appreciated and neither is public nudity except at few beaches.

Always travel with advance hotel and train reservations, so as to avoid last minute hassles, giving rise to the possibility of chance mishaps.

Never share your itinerary with any person who is not directly related to the planning of your trip. Likewise, never disclose to any person that it is your maiden trip to India, lest they treat you as an easy quarry. More.

Cheap Flights and Tickets to India (IN) – Airfares on Skyscanner

    Cheap Flights to India

The mystery and exuberance of India calls out for exploration. Its vast and varied landscape, its diverse and welcoming people, and its heady mix of cuisines, cultures, and traditions is dizzying in its beauty and chaos. To some, taking the flight to India is a pilgrimage. To others, it s an adventure. Whatever your reasons for visiting India may be, we know you ll return home changed forever.

    Flights to India

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is the country s busiest airport, with more than 36 million passengers passing through each year. It s the primary aviation hub for India and South Asia, and is located just 10 miles from the Delhi city center. More than 80 airlines serve DEL, and it acts as headquarters for major Indian airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, Blue Dart Aviation, GoAir, SpiceJet, and Jet Airways.

The next three busiest airports in India are Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM), which serves Mumbai, Chennai International Airport (MMA), the main airport for the southern Indian city of Chennai, and Kempegowda International Airport, just outside of Bangalore. Where you enter the country will obviously depend on your plans, and finding a cheap ticket to India may be a matter of being flexible about your proposed itinerary

    Stuff to do in India

India is not for the faint of heart, but it will expand your soul. The sheer enormity of the country can be overwhelming, and each of its regions holds countless wonders. The major cities team with life: a riot of sounds, sights and emotions which may challenge you, delight you, and confuse you in equal measure.

The heart-stopping scale of the Himalayan mountain ranges, as mist curls from the foothills to the peaks, may inspire heights of courage and physical endurance you didn t know you had. The desolate majesty of the seven Lost Cities will bring the glories of fallen empires to life in your imagination as you pass ruined forts, temples, and palaces which once teemed with life. Holy places and the relics of past heroes, martyrs, and gods greet you at every turn.

    Advice for Tourists

You ll need a visa to visit India, which should be arranged well in advance. You should have up-to-date-boosters for tetanus, diphtheria, polio, and typhoid. Malaria risk will vary widely depending on location and season, so run your itinerary by an experienced travel doctor before you go.

It is very important to stay hydrated, especially if you succumb to Delhi belly. (If you are so unfortunate, a diet of plain rice, yogurt, and rehydration salts should sort out all but the most severe cases.)

The currency of India is the rupee, which is divided into 100 paise. It is technically illegal to take rupees in or out of India, so you will need to change your money in-country. Luckily, fees are low.

There are hundreds of living languages in India, and 22 have official scheduled status. Hindi is the majority language, but especially in urban areas, English is a close second. It s also important to use only your right hand when eating or handing over money and goods, as the left hand is considered unclean.

Traveling by train is one of the best ways to experience the country, so you can relax and watch the Indian countryside roll by whether you re on a tight budget or lounging in the lap of luxury. Spending the night in a sleeper car may be an adventure, but when you want to sleep somewhere stationary, try Skyscanner s free hotel comparison tool to get the very best deal.

Sightseers booking tickets aboard flights landing in India may get drunk on Delhi’s mystique of crumbling historical monuments, Mumbai’s impossibly extravagant art deco spreads, Bangalore’s well-maintained parks and gardens, Goa’s beautiful beaches or Kerala natural exquisiteness. But it’s not just sights that make tickets deals on flights to the country sell like hot cakes, India seems to be an open air market that packs in everything a shopper would ever look for!

    Is India safe for tourists?

Several recent incidents, including a British tourist s report of a threatened sexual assault at her Agra hotel earlier this week, have raised concerns among would-be visitors to Indian attractions such as the Taj Mahal. (Photo: Laura Bly/USA TODAY)

UPDATE, April 2: In the wake of several highly publicized sexual attacks, women travelers are canceling or avoiding trips to India, a New Delhi-based business association says.

In a new survey of 1,200 tour operations across India, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India found that the number of inbound tourists has dropped 25% since December. The inlux of female travelers is down 35%, particularly from the USA, Canada, Australia and Britain, local businesses told the group. Many operators said tourists had sent them emails wondering whether traveling in India was still safe, and “those who are determined to visit India are taking extra precautions and avoiding affected areas,” they reported.

“India attempts to enhance its image in the eyes of foreign tourists,” D.S. Rawat, secretary general of the association, said in a statement. Instead, the reported attacks have “raised concerns about the safety of female travelers to the country.”

ORIGINAL POST: The India tourism office’s popular “Incredible India” marketing campaign, which recently featured The Mentalist co-star Patricia Malone as a woman traveling the country solo, has helped boost the number of foreign visitors to about 6.6 million a year.

But a recent series of incidents — December’s gang-rape and subsequent death of an Indian student on a bus in New Delhi, the March 16 gang-rape and robbery of a Swiss tourist biking through central India with her husband, and Tuesday’s report that a British tourist jumped out of a third-floor hotel room in Agra to avoid what she said was a threatened sexual assault from the hotel manager — has raised alarms among would-be visitors, particularly solo women.

Britain’s foreign office updated its advisory for India on Tuesday, warning female tourists to “exercise caution when travelling in India even if they are travelling in a group.” The U.S. State Department’s website asks female travelers to “observe stringent security precautions” and “avoid travelling alone in hired taxis, especially at night,” while a Swiss foreign ministry advisory, issued before last week’s attack, urged men and women visiting India to travel in large groups and with guides, notes AFP.

At the Delhi office of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, executive director Gour Kanjilal told AFP it was unfair to portray India as dangerous.

“Our industry is the first casualty when crime against foreigners is reported in India, but the reporting does not always reflect the truth,” he said. “Tourists should be responsible. They should follow some do’s and don’ts.”

In a travel briefing issued in response to the alleged rape of the Swiss woman, the global risk consultancy firm Control Risks said that “although the incident is serious, violent crime against foreigners remains relatively rare in India,” reports the Wall Street Journal.

“India remains generally safe for female travelers and most women will experience, at worst, unwelcome attention from men,” the firm’s report added, while cautioning tourists against traveling alone or in small groups.

Indeed, writes Toronto-based travel blogger and India expert Mariellen Ward of Breathedreamgo.com, “when it comes to India, I always encourage first-timers to join a group or go with a knowledgeable friend. There is a learning curve to being in India, no doubt about it. I have felt mostly safe over the 17 months I have travelled there; and have only minor incidents to report in all that time.”

“But what I REALLY feel is that India is no different than anywhere else,” she continues. “It is certainly getting a lot of publicity, and I’m glad these things are coming out in the open. The truth is the world is not safe for women anywhere. Rape stats in the USA, in South Africa and many other places are alarming and appalling. for example, Sweden is on many lists of safe places to travel (but) has a higher rate of rape, and a lower rate on the happiness index, than India.”

I, too, have traveled alone in India — albeit only for a 26-hour stint t hat included a late-night drive to Agra’s Taj Mahal — and returned with my husband for a two-week trip the following year. I often felt overwhelmed, but never questioned my personal safety.

Readers, what about you? Have recent events made you less likely to visit India?

2009 Honda Fit Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos – The

    #

    2009 Honda Fit Review

    • Excellent steering and maneuverability
    • Upmarket interior
    • Astonishing cargo and back-seat space
    • Secure, substantial feel on the road
    • Good crash safety relative to rivals

    Dislikes

    • Unimpressive highway fuel economy
    • Tall, stubby design is still far from sexy

The all-new 2009 Honda Fit’s appearance might not be pulse-quickening, but with a peppy fun-to-drive character, an astonishing amount of interior space, and a high-quality feel throughout, it’s close to the perfect affordable small car.

As the automotive experts at TheCarConnection.com assembled this comprehensive review, covering the 2009 Honda Fit, they looked to a number of other well-respected critical voices. To make the review as useful as possible, TheCarConnection.com’s editors included their own firsthand experience putting the new Honda Fit through the paces.

The 2009 Honda Fit, a small five-door hatchback and Honda’s lowest-priced U.S. model, has been completely redesigned for 2009. The new Honda Fit is about the same length and width as the standard Honda Civic was when it was last offered in the U.S. as a three-door hatchback (the 2000 model year), yet the five-door Fit is significantly roomier inside due to its tall, upright body style.

The Fit’s proportions make it look more like a scaled-down minivan in some respects, but that’s an indication as to why the five-passenger hatchback has such a spacious interior. The new 2009 Honda Fit gets a more aerodynamic, better-detailed look than the outgoing model on the outside. The windshield has been angled forward, and the roofline flows more smoothly as a result; complementing that is a pair of character lines that run from the snout through the grille and hood. Small side windows ahead of the front doors aid visibility.

Inside, the rakish windshield yields a vast expanse ahead of the instrument panel that translates to an airy feel in front. The instrument panel itself in the 2009 Honda Fit is anything but basic in appearance, with a swoopy, offset two-tiered appearance. The sound system and climate controls are angled toward the driver, along with the navigation screen if so equipped, and the mix of textured and matte-metallic plastic surfaces, along with simple but sturdy upholstery and trim, gives the impression of higher quality than other cars priced in the same range.

“Big on the inside” is how Honda describes the interior. That’s an accurate assessment, as there’s plenty of headroom throughout and a very space-efficient seat design in back. The so called Magic Seat now folds flat by lifting a single lever and pushing the seatback forward, with no need to remove rear headrests in the process; back-seat space are surprisingly commodious, with enough headroom and legroom in back for adults, and the cargo floor is especially low for easy loading and an impressive 20.6 cubic feet of EPA cargo room. Attention to details helps make the 2009 Honda Fit feel all the more space-efficient; there are now two glove compartments (upper and lower), along with many useful storage compartments and cubbies in the center console, dash, and doors, and plenty of cupholders.

The front-wheel-drive Fit is powered by a 1.5-liter, i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower. Performance is quite peppy with the standard five-speed manual and satisfactory with the optional five-speed automatic, which returns up to 29 mpg city, 35 highway. Though the 2009 Honda Fit is a little slower and noisier with the automatic, it actually gets better fuel economy as such; and Fit Sports with the automatic get paddle shifters alongside the steering wheel to aid control on curvy roads.

Steering and handling is a strong point for the 2009 Honda Fit; at low speeds Fit’s electric power steering and quick ratio lend a very responsive, tossable feel and parking ease, and the well-tuned suspension is firm yet absorbent. Despite the tall body and rather light weight, the Fit holds the road confidently at 80 mph, with surprisingly little engine and road noise.

The 2009 Honda Fit is offered in two primary specifications: Fit and Fit Sport. The base Fit comes with air conditioning, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and an MP3-compatible CD sound system, along with a telescopic steering wheel. The Fit Sport gets larger 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, keyless entry, a security system, and USB connectivity for the sound system, along with sporty cues throughout. A package adding the navigation system and electronic stability control is available on the Fit Sport.

The 2009 Honda Fit has not yet been crash tested, but it has an improved, more crashworthy ‘ACE’ body structure, according to Honda, and the outgoing Fit has been one of the best-performing small cars in tests from the federal government and IIHS. Side airbags and side-curtain bags are standard, along with anti-lock brakes. Electronic stability control, a feature that’s rare among inexpensive small cars, is now optional, though oddly only with the navigation system.

THE most versatile-use small car; the seat-folding is brilliant (and provides more useable space than much, much larger cars). Seats fold up, down, van-flat, and forwards; you can carry ‘awkward’ items; doors. THE most versatile-use small car; the seat-folding is brilliant (and provides more useable space than much, much larger cars). Seats fold up, down, van-flat, and forwards; you can carry ‘awkward’ items; doors open almost right-angles; 3-child-seat anchor-points; I think it’s 11X cup-holders (!); head-room is excellent (leg-room j-j-just fits me at 6-feet). Performance/handling; think: 1.5litre 4cylinder & tall car, electric steering, then. surprisingly good really, within those limits. Economy is close to advertised. Zero reliability issues. A well-cared-for, well-driven, no-accidents 2009 car would be perfect for a young family starting out, or a student with a hobby. Or a grandparents runabout with grandchildren. + More

  • Travel and Tourism, Career Option in Travel and Tourism, Careers in

    #travel and tourism
    #

Travel and Tourism one of the world’s largest foreign exchange earner among industries, provides employment directly to millions of people worldwide and indirectly through many associated service industries. A very wide industry, it includes Government tourism departments, Immigration and customs services, travel agencies, airlines, tour operators, hotels etc and many associated service industries such as airline catering or laundry services, Guides, Interpreters, Tourism promotion and sales etc. Travel and Tourism enterprises include major internationals with a workforce of thousands, to the small private travel agent with a handful of employees.

Work in the travel and tourism industry is essentially concerned with providing services for people who are away from home, on business or holiday. Travel can be leisure travel involving package tours, pilgrim travel, adventure travel etc or purely business. Work at every functional level in the industry involves dealing directly with people. Travel agents assess the needs of tourists and businessmen and help them make the best possible travel arrangements from the many travel options available. Also, many major cruise lines, resorts, and specialty travel groups use travel agents to promote travel packages to the millions of people who travel every year.

Travel company personnel must be up-to-date on current rules and regulations and documentation required, in areas like cargo, ticketing and passports, visas etc. so as to correctly advise their clients, and to take care of the paperwork when necessary. Besides this, all tourism staff in marketing, counter sales, or guide services, should be knowledgeable about the places their clients visit, in terms of general background, how to get there connections by air, rail and road and the facilities available.

In India, Travel and tourism, as an industry, has been somewhat slower to take off than in many other places. However, with increasing worldwide interest in travel, and with the Government’s encouragement of its activities, it is undergoing massive expansion and improvement. This forecasts a bright future for all those who choose to make a career of travel and tourism. Young people with drive and a capacity for hard work can rise to top positions very quickly in travel and tourism or even head their own agencies. A job in the industry gives good returns as well as perks including opportunity to see many locales at low prices.

    5 tips for India first-timers – Lonely Planet #jamaica #travel

    5 tips for India first-timers

Chaotic, bamboozling, intoxicating, crazy, exasperating, squalid, daunting, overwhelming. India is all these things, and more. How can you possibly prepare yourself?

Start with our tips for taking the ultimate travel plunge: going to India for the first time.

    1. Choose your route wisely

Think about what interests you, what you like doing, and tailor your trip accordingly. The itineraries section at the front of Lonely Planet India can be a great help here.

The most popular India tour is the all-time classic Golden Triangle. Clichéd, yes, but if time is short this is a fantastic introduction to three of India’s very best destinations. Start in Delhi (Hamayun’s Tomb, Old Fort) before hitting Agra (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri) then Jaipur (Pink City, fort at Amber). Head back to Delhi’s wonderful bazaars for a final shopping spree before you fly home.

And if you have more specific interests:

    Related articles:

    Tigers – Madhya Pradesh

    Thrill-seekers – Manali

    Religious fervour – Varanasi

    2. Slow down

Too many people try to cram too much into a visit to India. Don’t be one of them. Seeing one place slowly is so much more rewarding than seeing many places in a flash. You’ll be less stressed, gain a deeper understanding of where you are and have more time to build relationships with the people you meet.

    3. Avoid the crowds

One billion locals gets a bit too much for some travellers, but India also has plenty of quiet retreats. If you need to escape the crowds in the sprawling cities, consider heading south to the backwaters of Kerala. north to Tibetan-influenced mountainous regions such as Ladakh or paying a visit to one of India’s many hill stations.

    4. Stay healthy

Avoid tap water, and any food that may have been washed in it, at all times. No ice, no salads and no fruit you haven’t just peeled yourself.

Many travellers go veggie whilst in India. It’s not a bad idea. A dodgy bit of meat will do you a lot more harm than slightly undercooked vegetables. Plus, many Indians are vegetarian, so there’s a fabulous choice of vegetarian food. If you do eat meat, make sure it’s well cooked. If in doubt, eat at a place that’s packed with locals.

Toilets are notoriously bad in India, but they don’t have to be health hazards. Consider using the left-hand-and-water-jug method preferred by many locals (it is, after all, so much more hygienic than using dry paper), but don’t forget to carry soap with you so you can wash your hands properly afterwards.

    5. Keep cool

India is renowned for its touts and scams, for its in-yer-face hassles and for being generally bloody hectic. There are various ways you can reduce the chances of being overcharged or just plain cheated (see scams in India ), but there’s no way you can avoid them altogether, so the single most important piece of advice for any India first-timer is to try to remain calm, no matter what. Frustrations boil over easily in India, and being able to control them, take a deep breath and move on, is key to enjoying your overall experience.

I have been thinking of writing a feedback for you since we came back from our trip, but there’s been so many thinks happening in my life. But I really want to thank you for the tour and the experience we got while travelling with your company! We were also satisfied with the hotels we were staying at, especially the last one in Jaipur!

India is a daunting destination for first-time American visitors like ourselves. We were well looked after by Haroon Baktoo and Indian Tribal Tours, who took most of the cares from our shoulders and made it possible for us to enjoy this astounding country. When we are able to return, we’ll sign up with Indian Tribal Tours again–South India next time!

I just wanted to say thank you for a memorable trip and great planning.  My mum and I would like to compliment Amit on his caring assistance throughout our tour in Delhi.  He was always accommodating and very helpful to us.  The time with Arun in Mumbai was short but also very good. I will definitely recommend your company to friends and family that want to visit in a few months’ time.

Thank you to you and your team for making our visit to your beautiful country a wonderful experience  !

Thanks for all your help in making our trip memorable. India and Nepal are both rewarding and challenging, it was quite the experience. The hotels were good with the Golden Tulip being the best. All the drivers we used were very friendly & informative. The driver was excellent in Nepal and I would highly recommend him:

Overall it was a positive experience. Again, thanks.

Wonderful India Experience” All thanks to Indian Tribal Tours. our travel was made easy & comfortable which was difenitely not possible on our own. There drivers & office staff make a great team. Good Job.

The trip was well organized, we got to see everything we wanted to. We could probably have had a more tight program, but we felt it was not necessary, it would only have been too much stress. So we were completely satisfied with the program!
