Online Exercise Science Bachelors Degree Program Info

Essential Information

Online learning options in exercise science are very rare, since there tends to be required hands-on research in athletic training, strength, and conditioning. However, individuals can find a select few institutions that offer exercise science majors and concentrations delivered remotely. Courses can be completed online, but an internship is typically required near the end of the program. In some hybrid programs, students may also be required to complete in-class lab work.

In addition to kinesiology, there are several other majors that include exercise science courses, such as physical education, nutrition and sports management. Bachelor’s degree programs in sports management can be completed totally online, with no on-campus course or lab requirements.

In bachelor’s degree programs in kinesiology, students can expect to take courses in biomechanics, physiology, sports psychology, and motor learning. These programs may prepare graduates for certification with the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Individuals can go on to work as fitness trainers, coaches or sports managers.

Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science

Most bachelor’s degree programs in kinesiology offer the option to concentrate in exercise science. Students enrolled in kinesiology programs will learn the basics of body movements and functions, and incorporate these ideas with principles of fitness and rehabilitation.

Program Information and Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, with a focus on exercise science, is typically meant to provide students with a science-based approach to understanding fitness. Students will complete hands-on work and research, oftentimes in a laboratory or training facility, in order to gain experience in rehabilitation techniques, performance analysis, and fitness testing. Kinesiology programs generally take a multi-faceted approach in teaching aspects of fitness and exercise science. Bachelor’s degree programs in exercise science usually take 3-4 years to complete.

Common Kinesiology and Exercise Science Courses

Students will complete coursework dealing with aspects of physical therapy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport psychology and fitness testing. Hands-on training and first-aid certification courses are typically required for completion of the program.

Anatomy and Physiology

This course studies the structure and function of the human organ systems. Students are typically required to complete in-class laboratory work.

Exercise Physiology

This course looks at the physiology of exercising. Students will study how the human endocrine, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems respond and adapt to exercise.

Fitness Assessment and Prescription

Students study the methods and techniques used in evaluating physical fitness. This course covers topics in blood pressure, liability concerns, ECG recording and interpretation, strength assessment, body composition analysis, and pulmonary function tests.

Career Information

A popular career option for someone holding a degree in kinesiology and exercise science is to become a fitness worker. As of May 2015, the median annual income for someone working in the field was $36,160, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS reported that, between 2014 and 2024, job opportunities in the field are expected to increase by 8% (www.bls.gov ).

Continuing Education

Students who complete a bachelor’s degree program in kinesiology often go on to pursue a master’s degree in the field. A master’s degree program typically takes 2-3 years to complete. Students will delve into more intensive research and study of kinesiology, including extensive hands-on laboratory research and training. The option to choose exercise science as a focus is typically available at the master’s level, just as it is at the bachelor’s level. A master’s degree may lead to a significant bump in responsibility and pay in the field of fitness-related jobs. Jobs in physical therapy are popular career options for people who have earned a master’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science.

The most relevant online degree option for undergraduate students who are interested in exercise science is a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, which includes courses in the basics of human anatomy and how these principles affect sports performance. While these programs typically include a certain amount of on-site hands-on training, there are other athletics-related bachelor’s degree programs that can be completed entirely online.

Educational Technology Master’s and Doctorate Degrees at a Glance

Whether you’re a teacher who’d like to increase your use of technology in the classroom, or you desire a career designing educational media, consider a master’s degree or doctorate in educational technology. Two types of doctoral degrees are commonly available in educational technology: the PhD and the EdD (Doctor of Education). The PhD and EdD are very similar, but the PhD is usually more research-oriented, while the EdD may focus on applications utilized by practitioners.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), instructional coordination jobs, which are suitable for educational technologists, are expected to grow at a faster-than-average rate of 20% between 2010 and 2020. Students who earn a master’s degree could find work in this expanding field, while PhD or EdD graduates can pursue positions as university faculty members. Beyond working in schools, an educational technology degree could offer entry into fields such as corporate training.

Master’s Degree in Educational Technology

A master’s degree in educational technology offers a flexible academic experience where classes are conveniently scheduled for working adults. As an educator or administrator, you’ll have the opportunity to interact online, in person or both with your professional peers as you learn how to utilize technological learning tools in an elementary, middle or secondary school classroom. It’s also important to note that some programs are geared toward current teachers. Admission to most master’s degree programs in educational technology requires a 3.0 GPA.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • People who have earned a master’s degree are typically paid higher salaries than those holding only a bachelor’s degree*
  • You’ll be qualified to work as an instructional coordinator, a position that is expected to see faster-than-average job growth*
  • You can teach in a community college with a master’s degree

Cons

  • Many positions in higher education at the university level would require you to have a PhD or EdD
  • Most states require licensure for instructional coordinators in elementary, middle and secondary school positions
  • Some of your career options could be vulnerable to government budget cuts

Source: *U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Common Courses and Requirements

Course requirements for a master’s degree in educational technology frequently include educational theory, qualitative research methods and statistics. You may also complete classes focusing on teaching students with learning disabilities or other cognitive challenges. Because the students you’ll be working with are likely to come from diverse backgrounds and ethnic groups, some programs may feature courses on working with multicultural children. Additionally, many programs will require you to assemble a portfolio, while others will require a thesis.

Online Degree Options

Online programs granting a master’s degree in educational technology are readily available. Programs are offered in completely online formats with no residency requirement, online programs with residency requirements and hybrid or mixed programs offering some required classes online. When compared with on-site programs, the online degree programs have the same courses and graduation requirements.

Getting Ahead with This Degree

Even though you’re studying a technological field, there are still some ways to give your degree an edge through technology. If you’re interested in working with elementary, middle or secondary school students, consider additional courses that will help you teach, develop or improve the curriculum at an online school. The number of online schools for K-12 students is increasing rapidly. You can also take advantage of opportunities to present your research at conferences for educational professionals. If your program requires a portfolio, make the most of it, and if it doesn’t require one, consider assembling one anyway to showcase your skills for your current or future employer.

Doctorate Degree in Educational Technology

PhD and Doctor of Education (EdD) degree programs in educational technology are academically challenging programs featuring a combination of education and information technology coursework, quantitative and qualitative research and a dissertation. If you’re pursuing a PhD, your degree program will provide the research and theoretical training in educational technology that’s necessary for a career in higher education. If you’ve enrolled in an EdD program, you’ll most likely be taking courses that are scheduled around your current position and designed to add to your skills as an education professional or help you advance in the field.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • You’ll be able to teach at any level in a college or university in addition to K-12
  • People with doctoral degrees earn more and are not as likely to be unemployed than those with less education*
  • Some doctoral programs – mostly for PhDs – offer financial support, such as a paid teaching assistantships

Cons

  • If you want to be a postsecondary teacher, competition could be intense for full-time tenure-track positions
  • Outside of academia, many positions in educational technology don’t require a doctorate for entry
  • A doctoral degree in educational technology normally takes at least three years of study beyond a master’s to complete

Source: *U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Courses and Requirements

Whether you enroll in a PhD or EdD degree program in educational technology, your courses will usually include more advanced work in many of the same topics studied in a master’s degree program, including qualitative and quantitative research, educational technology theory and instructional design. Additionally, some programs feature courses focusing on other topics, such as distance learning and educational media. There is also a good chance you’ll complete an internship or practicum. Often, doctoral students are required to pass a comprehensive exam to demonstrate their mastery of the subject. Regardless of which type of doctoral program you choose, you’ll probably be expected to write and successfully defend a dissertation based on original research.

Fully online PhD degree programs in educational technology are not common, although EdD programs are available online along with hybrid PhDs. EdD programs may have more online options because many are designed for working educational professionals, while the PhD option targets future professors with its research focus.

Get Ahead with This Degree

Check out a few of the ideas below to help your make the most of your doctorate in educational technology.

  • Consider coursework that will enable you to design and teach online or distance learning classes at a university. Many brick and mortar universities offer online courses or degrees, and as an educational technology professional, you’ll be in a perfect position to adapt to different methods of course delivery.
  • In addition to online universities, the number of online programs for younger students is increasing. Look for an opportunity to concentrate on the niche created by the expansion of virtual schools for elementary, middle and high school students.
  • Respond to calls for papers that could result in publication in academic journals. If your goal is to be a professor publication will give you an advantage.

Student Guide to London- Travel, Budget, Lodging Info #vegas #travel #deals

Student Guide to London Travel

By Kathleen Crislip. Student Travel Expert

Before you go to London:

Lovely London, spendy but friendly, is a should-see student travel spot. Make plans before you go (scroll for all).

  • Should I make reservations in London?
    • Yes — see places to stay in London below.

How should I pack for London?:

Learn how to pack the basics — for London in spring and summer, add or subract clothing as you would for the Northeast US (like New York). Bring a very small umbrella and light rain anorak or jacket that can be rolled tight for toting in your day pack while touring. Bring an electrical converter — British wall plugs won t accept your electrical devices. Comfy walking shoes are a must.

    Getting to London:

You ll find the best airfare to London from student airfare agencies like Student Universe. Watch for specials and you can save a bundle. Don t be fooled by some airlines student airfares — student airfare agencies have the real deal. Airfare sales do happen, though — check student airfares against an aggregator s roundup of regular ticket prices.

    • Student airfare finders
    • What s an aggregator?

Air to London may be cheaper with an air/hotel package, but those stays are usually very short.

Where should I stay in London? How much will it cost?:

A West End (below) London hostel is the best way to go for budget lodging in London — funky little hotels can be charming, but London is very expensive. Ask to see a hostel room before you pay and choose a dorm (several bunks in one room) for the cheapest London lodging.

Expect to pay $25-$35 for a London hostel bunk.

    Getting around in London:

The London tube is a major miracle of modern transportation — learn to love it. Though it s the oldest in the world, London s subway (but don t call it that) is clean, safe and efficient. And if the tube doesn t take you close to your London destination s door, the bus (maybe a double decker!) will.

Plentiful black London cabs have fixed prices — get a few folks to make a cab s cost equal the tube.

    British money and London budget:

England s currency is the pound — don t plan on using euros. Exchange rate is bad (about $1.75 is normal). London is expensive — plan $55/day. Food and beds are spendy but clubs can be cheap; museums are free. You won t miss truly adventurous food by cheaply cooking in your hostel kitchen .

    What to do in London:

London s history is long and deep — do tour the London Tower. For free music ideas, see the Free London List. Borrow someone s copy of the Time Out music/film/event guide or check Time Out online for non-free music happening in London. Consider buying a one day Original Bus Tour pass ($28) to hop on and off at major sites. Spend whole days hanging out in places like Piccadilly Circus or Covent Garden. Take a great (free) Soho podcast walking tour. And check the top free things to do in London.

Safety, crime and travel health care in London:

The artful dodger does lurk in the London tube — consider figuring out in advance how to stash travel cash. You can feel physically safe in all of London provided you use basic travel safety precautions. Terrorism is not a big concern, despite some US hysteria over the 05 tube bombings.

US travelers get free emergency room care in London; all else is pay as you go, though your US health insurance probably covers you. Food and tap water are perfectly safe in London. You don t need travel immunizations for London.

    London photo galleries:

Whet your travel appetite with some London photos meant just for student travelers — most were taken on gray days because, honestly, that s the sky you may see in London much of the year.

London s West End is backpacker central:

Think about staying in London s West End (north of the Thames River, west of Piccadilly Circus ) — try the Wake Up London hostel for cheap, safe lodging. You can walk to nearby Hyde Park and take the tube everywhere, like outdoor markets or Notting Hill.

Mail, Internet and Phone Calls in London

UK mail is quite speedy — if you ll be there a few weeks, set up a snail mail address.

    • Learn how to set up an international snail mail address

You can buy phone cards good for making calls in England for about $3-5-10 USD in UK convenience stores, major train stations like Waterloo, your hostel and airports. You can also buy a UK cell phone for $50 or less and make cheaper UK calls than with a roaming US phone — look for phone vending machines (seriously) or try a Carphone Warehouse storefront.

The Dover Castle Hostel (south of the Thames) has free wifi, but free or even cheap wifi in London hostels is scarce. Hostel internet access (their computers) is ludicrously expensive. London does sport internet phone booths on street corners — spendy but handy. Chain easyInternetcafe, boring but predictable, can be found in places like Burger King.

    London with a Tour Group

Visiting London is so expensive that going with a tour group is a great idea — it can be cheaper and much easier than visiting on your own. Several companies specialize in student group travel — try EF Tours for a very decent experience: I ve traveled with EF Tours, and I would again.

Online Physical Education Bachelors Degree Program Info #online #education #bachelors #degree,

    #

Online Physical Education Bachelors Degree Program Info

    Essential Information

Through a bachelor’s degree program in physical education, students explore methods for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They also learn how to create personalized wellness plans, focusing on proper nutrition and exercise. Due to the hands-on experience required, there are no online bachelor’s degree programs in physical education. These programs primarily train aspiring teachers, but graduates can also become fitness instructors or coaches. Courses cover fitness and health as well as teaching methods.

These programs require four years of full-time study to complete. Students are required to take general education courses, and they must complete a teacher education program that includes courses in educational assessment, special education, the psychology of learning, and child development. Students get experience in classroom management and in teaching through practice in real classrooms and a student teaching internship. Some may also require on-campus competency exams. Physical education courses may include exercise physiology, kinesiology, team sports, motivation, health education and first aid.

Graduates of these programs who wish to teach in a public school will need a license. In most states, licensing requirements include earning a bachelor’s degree, completing an approved teacher education program and passing competency examinations.

After earning a bachelor’s degree, graduates might consider pursuing an online master’s degree program in physical education, such as a Master of Education. These programs can be found in fully online formats that don’t require campus visits.

Find schools that offer these popular programs

    • Kinesiology and Exercise Science
    • Physical Education and Health
    • Sport and Fitness Management
    • Sports Medicine

Bachelor of Science in Physical Education Program Information

Online degree programs in physical education are usually not available at the bachelor’s level, though individual courses may be available in a distance learning format. However, through the on-campus program, students learn healthy lifestyle techniques for themselves and for others. They learn skills for exercising without causing pain or injury. This degree program requires that students have at least a high school diploma or the GED equivalent.

    Degree Information and Requirements

Usually, the bachelor’s degree program in physical education takes four or five years to complete. Both online and on-campus students often participate in physical and health-related activities, including regular workouts or intramural sports. Because these programs typically prepare students for instructional leadership roles, completion of multiple teaching experiences is often required.

List of Common Bachelor’s-Level Physical Education Courses

In addition to physical education courses, students must also take basic general education courses.

    Human Body Systems

Through this course, students become familiar with the major systems of the body, including the skeletal, vascular and muscular systems.

    Human Movement and Kinesiology

Students taking this course learn about the natural movements of the human body and ways to strengthen regular muscle motion through exercise. They also learn how unnatural movements lead to injury.

    Health and Fitness

This course teaches students the basics of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They learn about factors that can affect wellness, such as genetics, nutritional intake and regular exercise.

    Coaching

Students learn specific coaching methods and techniques for sports or fitness instruction. They also learn to assess others’ health and create balanced fitness plans based on weight, age and dietary regimen.

    Career Information for Graduates

In addition to becoming physical education teachers, graduates of a bachelor’s program may also find careers as coaches, athletic trainers or personal trainers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov ), all of these careers require at least a bachelor’s degree, though some may require additional certification for career advancement. The BLS states that the mean annual salary in 2015 for athletic trainers was $46,940, while coaches and fitness trainers and instructors earned $40,050 and $40,970, respectively. As of October 2016, physical education teachers earn a median annual salary of $41,994 according to PayScale.com.

    Continuing Education Information

Individuals who would like to continue their education can pursue a master’s degree in physical education entirely online. Other related degree programs in health and fitness are also available, which can lead to advanced career opportunities in a wider variety of fields, such as physical therapy or sports medicine. Certification and licensure may also be available in some fields.

There are currently no fully online programs available for a bachelor’s in physical education due to the hands-on nature of the program; however, the master’s program for physical education can be found fully online. At the bachelor’s level, some on-campus programs may offer a few courses online but otherwise require in-person work.

Marketing Management Degrees: Bachelor’s, Associate & Online Class Info

Studying Marketing Management: Degrees at a Glance

Marketing managers plan and design the promotion of a product or service. Specialists in the field understand consumer behavior and build advertising campaigns designed to catch an audience’s attention. The marketing management major provides a broad education in communications, merchandising and business regulations. Graduates of these programs work in purchasing, customer relations and promotions, to name a few.

An associate degree program offers a foundation in marketing theories and concepts; you will learn the promotional and advertising techniques employed in multiple industries. The bachelor’s degree program provides a deeper understanding of the field through courses that emphasize the analysis of business administration concepts.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) revealed that advertising sales agents and marketing managers could expect job growth of 13-14% from 2010-2020, while retail buyers could expect a 7% increase in job growth for the same time period (www.bls.gov ).

    Associate Degree in Marketing Management

An associate degree program can prepare you for entry-level careers in demonstration, promotion and advertising. Schools design their programs to offer a basic understanding of market research, advertising and digital marketing. You may choose from a specialization in industrial sales and marketing or advertising. Marketing requires creativity and solid communication skills; programs place emphasis on creative development and integrated communications. You can expect to take courses in psychology that examine human behavior in the context of buying habits.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Positions available to associate degree holders paid relatively competitive mean annual salaries in 2011
    • Some programs offer specialization, which provides flexibility and a customized learning experience
    • Some positions require a high school diploma and your degree can influence your marketability

    Cons

    • Programs may not prepare you for a career in marketing management
    • Bachelor’s degree holders will experience the best job prospects for advertising sales positions
    • Some programs do not offer coursework that emphasizes statistics or marketing research concepts

    Common Courses and Requirements

Training in marketing research, promotional trends and visual merchandising is often included in these roughly 60-credit programs. Some programs offer a concentration in sports marketing, digital business, entrepreneurship or professional selling. You may be required to take an internship and apply your knowledge in a supervised, hands-on setting. Following are some common courses offered by these programs:

    • E-commerce marketing
    • Retail management
    • Consumer behavior
    • Services marketing
    • Buying and merchandising
    • International marketing

    Online Degree Info

Online degree programs exist and some schools provide training through a complete online experience. Completing this degree can take 18 to 24 months, depending on your schedule. Distance-education programs usually offer coursework similar to traditional options. Some schools design courses that transfer to a bachelor’s degree program and the curriculum accommodates working professionals.

    Stand Out with This Degree

Experience in sales or customer service can influence access to job opportunities. The BLS reports that advertising sales agents with a proven record of accomplishment in sales techniques will enjoy better job prospects. Following are a few steps you can take to stand out:

    • Take internship opportunities at sales or marketing firms. Gaining experience during your time in school offers the ability to apply your training immediately and consult with your instructors if you have questions about the complexities of sales or marketing.
    • Enroll in customer service classes. If your college offers elective courses in customer service representative – also known as CSR – training, consider enrolling to increase your interaction skills.

    Bachelor’s in Marketing Management

The bachelor’s degree program expands the marketing management education to include product management, distribution and strategic marketing. Schools design programs to deliver training in advanced communication, data analysis and finance. Some schools offer an accelerated degree program that requires applicants to have already earned an associate degree. You can find employment in fields like marketing management, market analysis or business development. Many universities offer enriching campus-based programs, including marketing competitions or access to student chapters of marketing associations.

    Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Marketing managers – with the appropriate experience – earned a mean annual salary of $126,000*
    • Market research analysts could expect 41% job growth over the 2010-2020 decade**
    • Many programs offer specialization, which provides a highly flexible and tailored learning experience

    Cons

    • Associate degree holders earned mean salaries comparable to bachelor’s degree holders, for example: buyers earned $57,000*
    • Market research analyst positions may require a master’s degree, especially those in leadership
    • You can expect strong competition against experienced specialists and managers for marketing manager, advertising or promotion positions

Source: *U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (May 2011 figures), **U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010-2020 job growth projections).

    Common Courses and Requirements

The bachelor’s degree program may require major preparatory coursework in addition to core and general education courses. You may also take a capstone course and marketing electives to round out the roughly 120 credits required by the program. Some schools require a combination of advanced training, guided marketing classes and free electives. You will take courses in marketing principles, strategic management, sales and distribution management, business finance, brand management, business law and international business.

    Online Degree Info

The online bachelor’s degree program is usually designed for working professionals or people running their own business. Similarly to campus-based programs, online programs require roughly 120 credits in courses. You will study accounting and finance, marketing and communication, business law, ethics and economics. Some schools deliver their online programs in a non-credit format and require the completion of assessments to determine your progress. Keep in mind, this structure may be best suited to those with substantial work experience in the marketing field.

    Stand Out with This Degree

Experience can influence how well you perform in the job market. Employers may prefer candidates who have some experience in sales, promotions or marketing prior to making a job offer. Following are some steps you can take to enhance your marketability:

    • Take courses in digital advertising and marketing. The newspaper publishing industry – one of the top employers of marketing managers – was set to decline by 22% over the 2010-2020 decade, due to the increasing popularity of electronic media. Experience with the languages used in digital advertising – like Flash, Javascript, CSS or HTML – may make job prospects more promising.
    • Take an internship in the industry that interests you. For example, if you want to work in retail, take an internship in a retailer’s marketing department. Employers prefer to hire candidates with experience and a proven record of accomplishment.

In addition to their great abundance, trains in Britain have great conveniences. England train tickets offer first and standard class options, so finding your ideal situation is easy. You can direct connect to the rail system from the airports, as well as make convenient ship connections to Dun Laoghaire ( Dublin s Riviera ) just steps away from the Holyhead rail station. And don t forget to be one of the billion people a year that experience the Tube, London s Underground, the world s oldest and longest underground railway system.

So whether your day includes championship pint-lifting in a Dublin pub, photographing Buckingham Palace, or golfing at one of Scotland s incredibly beautiful courses, it s UK trains. They re where the journey begins and the memories never end.
