Import an Exchange Certificate

You need to be assigned permissions before you can perform this procedure. To see what permissions you need, see the “Client Access server security settings” entry in the Client Access Permissions topic.

In the console tree, click Server Configuration .

From the action pane, click Import Exchange Certificate to open the Import Exchange Certificate wizard.

This wizard helps you import a certificate with a valid private key to your Exchange server. You must enter the password of the private key for a successful import.

On the Introduction page, click Browse to select the file that contains the exported certificate, and then enter the password for the certificate.

On the Exchange Server Selection page, select the Exchange server that you want to import the certificate to.

On the Completion page, verify that all previously selected options are correct.

On the final page, follow the steps listed to complete your request. This page also displays the Shell cmdlet syntax necessary to import the certificate.

You need to be assigned permissions before you can perform this procedure. To see what permissions you need, see the “Client Access server security settings” entry in the Client Access Permissions topic.

This example imports an Exchange certificate from a file named import.pfx.

How to install an SSH Server in Windows Server 2008

Introduction

There are a number of command line options available to configure Window Server 2008 over the network. For example, Windows Powershell, ServerManager.exe. or a telnet server. However, the tried and true method that has worked so well with just about every type of infrastructure device in use today (including Windows Server 2008, Cisco Routers, Linux servers, and more) is SSH. In this article, learn how to install a SSH Server in Windows Server 2008.

What is SSH?

SSH is the secure shell, a standard defined in RFC 4251. It is a network protocol that opens up a secure channel between two devices using TCP port 22. This channel can also be used for SFTP and SCP (secure FTP and secure copy, respectively). To make this work, you need a secure server on the system you are connecting to and a secure client on the client you are connecting from.

Keep in mind that SSH is completely interoperable between different platforms. For example, you could connect to a SSH server on a Cisco router from a Windows client, you could connect to a Linux server from a Cisco router, and you could connect to a Windows 2008 Server from a Linux client.

The only possible compatibility issue is that there are two versions of SSH, SSH version 1 and SSH version 2. You should make sure that the server and client support the same versions so that you know which version you are using when you connect. Usually, this version can be negotiated.

While none of the Windows operating systems come with a SSH Server or Client, they are very easy to install.

By having a SSH Server on your Windows 2008 Server, you can:


  • Remotely access the command line of your Windows 2008 Server
  • Control the Server over the network, even if you cannot access the GUI interface
  • Remotely manage your Windows 2008 Server from any device that has a SSH Client
  • Do all this over an encrypted connection that could even securely traverse the Internet


What SSH Server options are available for Windows 2008 Server?

There are a number of SSH Server options available for Windows Server 2008. Here are just some of the few that I ran across:

How do I install FreeSSHd SSH Server in Windows Server 2008?

Because the installation for Free SSHd is so simple as compared to others (especially as compared to OpenSSH in Windows), I have chosen to demonstrate how to install and use Free SSHd. Remember that FreeSSHd is totally free (as the name says) both for personal / non-commercial use but also for commercial use.

To start this process, I downloaded FreeSSHd.exe on my Windows Server 2008 system and ran the downloaded program. The graphical installation began.

I took all the defaults for the installation options and clicked Install to being the install.

When done, I opted not to run SSHd as a service but that may be what you want to do on your production server.

By running FreeSSHd as service, it would be available no matter if you were logged into the console or not. I also chose to create private keys for the SSH server.

Next, I ran the FreeSSHd shortcut on the desktop in order to configure and start the SSH server.

I could see that the SSHd server was already running.

The FreeSSHd application can offer the following:


  • Both SSH Server and Telnet Server capabilities
  • Options to run SSHd on only certain interfaces
  • Multiple methods of authentication, including integrated NTLM authentication to Windows AD
  • Multiple methods of encryption including AES 128, AES 256, 3DES, Blowfish, and more
  • Options to bring up a secure tunnel upon connection
  • Optional Secure FTP (sFTP) for secure FTP, see the FreeFTPd website
  • The ability to administer users and restrict access to secure shell, secure tunnel, or secure FTP
  • Ability to allow access to only certain hosts or subnets
  • Ability to log all connections and commands performed through FreeSSHd
  • View currently connected users
  • Update FreeSSHd automatically

For me to be able to login, I had to do two things:


  1. Add a new user account and allow SSH command line access
  2. Open an exception in my Windows Server 2008 Firewall

To add a new user, I went to the Users tab and clicked Add.

I opted to set up a login for my local Windows administrator account. I set the authorization to NTLM. That way, there was no local password in the FreeSSHd database and if the administrator password changes in the local Windows account database, you don’t have to change the password in the FreeSSHd account database.

I authorized this new administrator SSH user to log in with SSH only.

Here are the results:

The second thing I had to do to allow me to login was to open an exception in the Windows Firewall. While I could disable the Windows Firewall completely instead of opening the ports, of course the most secure option is to leave the firewall up and allow for an exception for SSH – TCP port 22.

To do that, I went to Start – Administrative Tools – Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.

Next, I clicked on Inbound Rules, then on New Rule.

Next, I chose to add a Port rule.

Creative Cloud failed to install solved

If you are a Creative Cloud subscriber chances are that you have been experiencing problems with updating the Creative Cloud Desktop client.

Every now and then a new updated version is available and while it should be as easy as 1-2-3 to update that is hardly ever the case. At my office we have 5 computers with Creative Cloud subscriptions and never once have we been able to update the Creative Cloud Desktop client without problems.

The best part of it is the error message:

A not so useful error message

We ve encountered the following issues: Creative Cloud desktop failed to install. . Seriously? Why did it fail? What should I do to fix it?

I ve tried rebooting, killing irrelevant processes, running Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (which requires you uninstall ALL CC applications and subsequently installing them again wasting hours), changing registry records, deleting the AAMUpdater file, renaming the OOBE folder and just about anything else I could read on the net.

Sometimes it worked on some of the computers but never on all of them. The funny thing is that all 5 computers are the same make and brand, running the same OS, installed on the same day and all running the same applications. So why would it work on two of the computer but not the remaining three. Beats me..

Solution to the Creative Cloud Desktop failed to install problem:

Anyways I have found a solution that has worked consistently on all five computers for the last two updates. Whenever a Creative Cloud update is available I always try and install it normally first just to see if the problem is fixed (which it isn t). When that fails we reboot the computer and start it up in Safe Mode with Networking. Then I open the Creative Cloud application from the program list and it updates without any problems what so ever. Once it s done just reboot your computer again and your Creative Cloud Desktop is updated without any problems.

The above trick worked for me when Creative Cloud was giving me the We ve encountered the following issues: Creative Cloud desktop failed to install error message. If you are getting other error messages which contains actual error codes such as A12E1 or Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7 then the above mentioned approach might not work.

I have had Adobe CC since April 2013. Each update since then has resulted in Error message: A12E1. I have been on the phone with Adobe s customer support in India 4 times. I found a lengthy work around (similar to what you have suggested above). But I got tired of that and since I m paying for this service, it should work. So. I called Adobe in California, got a receptionist on the phone, told her my dilemma and told her I did not want to speak with India (because a) they are hard to understand, sorry not racist, it just is what it is, and b) they have failed to help me with a permanent solution). She put me in touch with a guy in Oregon who is part of the Adobe solutions team that find and implement solutions to software problems. I have had umpteen e-mail exchanges, had one of their software engineers take over my Mac remotely to try and diagnose a problem and have sent multiple log files to them to try and find a fix. They assured me that the most recent CC update (April 3rd) would fix the problem. No luck! Contacted them again and will wait and see what happens. Feel this problem will never be fixed. May have to abandon Adobe CC altogether and buy their programs like the good ole days. Ugh!

I know you put some effort in your post and I thank you, however:

That means the program did not install, in which case it won t matter what mode you place your computer in if you don t have the application installed.

No this post won t help you much in that case. This post is only related to the problem of Creative Cloud failed to install when it is updating an existing client on the machine.

There is a Creative Cloud Cleaner tool available (sorry but don t have the link) and this completely deletes all references to CC on the machine. Perhaps clearing a faulty install can help you finally getting it installed on your computer.

Brilliant, thank you. This had been a regular headache for years now with one user having no trouble ever and the other always having the same failed installs. One caveat, often during Cloud manager update failures, the previous version had already been uninstalled by the installer and failed before installing the updated version. So once it fails, going into safe mode there is no cloud manager to update anymore. So make sure you have a fresh exe to install an updated manager from.

After 2 hours on phone and remote log in Adobe had no fix I just tried your method and it worked 1st try on my Macbook.

    Disable Lock Feature

    Hi, this is Wayne from Sears PartsDirect. Today we’re going to talk about what to do when the remote for your garage door opener doesn’t work. You press the remote, and the door doesn’t move.

    What’s next? If the garage door opener lights blink twice when you press the remote, check the wall control to see if you have the Lock feature enabled. The Lock button feature disables all remotes. If the green light blinks on the wall control, the lockout feature is on. Press and hold the Lock button for 2 seconds to disable the feature.

    Check for RF Interference

    If you press the remote and nothing happens, RF interference could be preventing the garage door opener from receiving the remote signal. To check for RF interference, hold the remote a few feet away from the motor unit and press the button.

    If the remote works in the immediate vicinity of the motor unit, then RF interference is likely preventing the remote from working at normal distances. Motion detectors on security lights or home alarm systems can cause RF interference. Electronic game consoles can also interfere with RF signals. Find and eliminate the cause of RF interference to improve your remote’s signal range.

    If you’re unable to find the source of RF interference, you can install an antenna on the side of your house to improve the reception. You can also schedule a Sears service technician to visit your home and find the source of RF interference.

    Replace Bad Remote Battery

    If the remote doesn’t work when you hold it next to the motor unit, then a few different things could be happening. Your remote battery could be dead, your remote could have lost its programming link to the garage door opener or you could have a defective remote control. A defective logic board can also prevent the remote control from activating the garage door opener.

    First, check the batteries. If your remote has an LED light like this one, see if it lights up when you press the button. If not, then the remote battery could be dead. You can buy replacement batteries at searspartsdirect.com. Some remotes don’t have an LED light to check for signs of life. Try a new battery and see if the remote starts working.

    Reprogram Remote, Reset Logic Board

    If that doesn’t work and you know the battery is good, then the remote might have lost its programming link to the garage door opener. Reprogram the remote to activate the garage door opener. If you can’t reprogram the remote, erase all the codes by holding down the Learn button on the motor unit for about 6 seconds or until the Learn light turns off.     If you still can’t program the remote after erasing all codes, reset the logic board in the motor unit by unplugging the garage door opener for one minute. Restore power and reprogram the remotes. If you still have a remote that just won’t work, try programming a different remote if you have more than one.     Replace the Logic Board
