4tourist .net service for travellers to Italy

4tourist.net, The service

4tourist.net works for those who want to travel italy since 1996 and has the aim to connect people travelling to Italy or planning vacation to Italy in self catering accommodation and vacation rentals.

4tourist.net offers the website www.agriturismo.net, www.lodging.it, which holds a directory of privately owned properties, beyond traditional tourist circuits like hotels and residences.

These properties allow us to offer our guests the very special experience of spending their vacation in locations where local people live, with the same rhythms of local life.

These holidays give travellers the opportunity to experience and appreciate the unique architecture, traditions and lifestyles in the individual destinations.

4tourist.net carefully selects the properties, within a set qualitative range within which travellers can gain maximum satisfaction without any of the possible disadvantages or discomforts due to the particular nature of the locations. All the properties published on the web sites are equipped with reservation facilities and are contactable exclusively by email.

Alle the network of Agriturismo .net and Lodging .it can be navigated by browsing through the pages that focus on specific regions, or by using the search engine to find the type of property with the desired services and facilities.

To choose a vacation in one of the properties on the portals it is necessary to make an availability request for the desired dates, using the form on the website.

Each property, named evocatively, is presented with photographs and descriptive contents, terms and conditions of the reservation, prices by season.

How to ask availability

If the Client wishes to request availability to travel italy in more than one property for the same time period, a Multiple Availability Request can be made by selecting the check box on the request form. This allows 4tourist net to send the same request to similar properties as the first selected thereby reducing the effort of the Client and maximizing the number of properties to choose from to travel Italy.

In the case that the Client is not able to find an appropriate property, or does not have time to search in depth, a General Availability Request Form may be submitted to agriturismo .net and lodging .it specifying the location and desired facilities of the property, and a selection of properties with availability for the specified time period will be provided.

4tourist.net will identify a property with the required features and provide all the information necessary for the customer to contact the property.

The Availability Request is an obligation free request, that does not entail any commitment on the part of the Client making the request to the property or to 4tourist.net.

Replies to the Availability Request will be sent, within 24 hours of the request by email, except in exceptional circumstances.

A Multiple Availability Request, like a General Availability Request, will result in more than one reply being sent to the Client, one from each of the properties whom the Availability Request was sent.

The exchange of information and contact between the property and the Client takes place exclusively by email therefore it is vitally important that the correct email address is supplied by the Client.

How to Make a Reservation

To make the reservation the Client must use the Reservation form found on the web pages of the property trough the link Reservation Request.

Clicking on the link will open a new window that contains a box where the client has to fill in with the request code of the Availability Request was made. Click ‘Proceed with Reservation’ button and wait until the system retrieves the information of the original request. At this point the Client can check the details and make any necessary modifications to the data. One the data is checked and corrections made, the Client may print the Booking Form and fax it to +39 050 3869005.

Please remember to fax the credit card details with which you wish to guarantee the reservation, or confirmation from the bank from which you made a bank transfer for part or full payment of the reservation (in the case that the property requires payment by bank transfer) with the Booking Form. The reservation will be accepted only after the receipt of the fax by 4tourist.net.

Within 4 working hours the staff at 4tourist.net will confirm via email the receipt of the reservation request and with all the contact details of the guest that it has been sent to the property for the issuance of the voucher.

The reservation must be made within 48 hours from the confirmation of availability by the property to the client.

Train travel italy

The national railway company of Italy is known as the Trenitalia. Italy has over 16,000 km of railway network. Train tickets for trains operating in Italy can be booked in advance. International trains connect Italy with neighbouring countries such as France and Switzerland. Book train tickets to visit main cities of Italy by train. Italian cities including Rome, Venice and Milan are all served by trains.

Cityscape

Use Italy’s train network to travel from Rome’s Empire-era monuments to Florence’s Renaissance art and architecture. Wander aimlessly around Venice’s romantic canals, board the train to Italy’s style capital, Milan, or travel south to pizza capital Naples.

Landscape

Drive through Tuscany’s rolling olive grove-dotted hillsides, or photograph water buffalo on Campania’s flat plains. Dine in cliff-side Positano overlooking the Amalfi Coast, swim in the turquoise waters of Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, or tour Sicily’s ancient Greek theatres. Ski in the northern Dolomites, or visit tranquil Lake Como.

Take Home

Buy designer labels in Milan, hand-blown Murano glass in Venice, and painted ceramics in Tuscany and Umbria. Take home red Brunello wine from Montalcino in Tuscany, sparkling Prosecco from the Veneto and Parmesan and olive oil from local delis.

Eat Drink

Sample Sardinia’s seafood risotto and Tuscan steak, bistecca alla fiorentina. Northern specialities include truffles and porcini mushrooms – in the South, try buffalo mozzarella, fiori di zucchini (deep-fried courgette) and melanzane alla parmigiana (baked aubergines in tomato and Parmesan).

New Perspective

Watch the sun set on the train ride to Italy’s picture-postcard Cinque Terre region in northwestern Liguria where traditional villages cling to an old way of life.

Benefits

  • Traveling by Train in Sicily – Sicily Italy Transportation, train travel

    Traveling by Train in Sicily

Train travel in Sicily is not for those in a hurry. It is best suited to those individuals who need to atone for their sins by doing penance, and rumor has it that a one-way ticket on Sicilian rail can be redeemed for a week out of purgatory. At least you won’t be fighting traffic and clinically insane drivers, or spend your day looking for a parking space.

Most trains in Sicily are Regionale, which, no matter how you translate it, means slow. They usually offer only 2nd class tickets and no services other than bringing your bicycle on board, presumably so that when you get fed up with the painstakingly slow train, you can quickly pedal away. On the bright side, regionale train tickets are cheap and routes are often scenic.

One rail route in Sicily that holds promise as a sightseeing journey and a step back in time is the Ragusa-Syracuse route, which takes approximately 2 hours one way. (You can also board the train at Modica, one stop east of Ragusa, which has slightly more frequent service and trims about 30 minutes off the journey.) The train is usually a rickety 1-2 car contraption, redolent of sweat and dust, but with a friendly conductor, who occasionally stops for coffee along the way. This old Sicilian train wends its way through groves of gnarled olive trees, peeks into the vegetable gardens of ramshackle houses, stops for no reason under the shady canopy of a magnificent carob tree, dips down towards the shimmering turquoise sea, and as it nears the town of Noto, is engulfed by lemon trees. In spring the scent of lemon blossoms fills the train with a scent so intoxicatingly sweet you’ll feel like you’ve skipped purgatory and gone straight to heaven. When the train finally squeals into the station at Syracuse, you can stretch your legs by walking the 20 minutes into the old quarter of Ortygia, and stroll by the seaside eating gelato. Make sure you check the return train times if you don’t want to be stranded overnight in Syracuse.

    1995 – 2017 Rail Europe 4A

    Train tickets

    Point to point Tickets

We’ve worked out that if you are only doing a couple of train journeys between two cities on your visit to Europe, then a point to point train ticket is the best option for you.

The great thing about point to point tickets is that you can choose a few major European cities and go directly to them, right into the heart of each city.

We can help you choose the best ticket for all the major European train operators right here and if you see a ticket you want, and the price is right, you can book it and, in most cases, we will honour the fare for 48 hours.

Have a look at our top point to point cities below and see if any of them catch your eye:

    Eurostar

    TGV Lyria

Paris-Geneva-Lausanne-Zurich with TGV Lyria is a popular point to point ticket choice as the train takes you on a journey through some of the most beautiful countryside and right to the centre of some very different cities.

    Thalys

Let the bright red high speed Thalys train whisk you from Paris to Amsterdam and on to Cologne. Point to point tickets take you right from the heart of one city to the heart of another.

The TGV transports tens of thousands of train passengers each year and Paris-Marseille-Strasbourg are some of the top point to point cities on a tour of France.

    Italian trains

Florence-Rome, Milan-Venice with Trenitalia and the Frecciarossa trains – the only way to see Italy is by train as you sit back and soak up the stunning scenery on the way to the centres of these top point to point cities.

As you can see from the examples above, point to point train tickets not only transport you right into the centre of some incredible cities but you can visit more than one country too. So you can get the Thalys from Paris to Cologne and then the ICE train in Germany to Berlin or Munich. Or you can stick to one country; if you are travelling around Spain with Renfe and the AVE trains you can buy point to point tickets from Madrid to Barcelona or Seville and Valencia.

Or you can stick to one country; if you are travelling around Spain with Renfe and the AVE trains you can buy point to point tickets from Madrid to Barcelona or Seville and Valencia.

  • Traveling by Train in Sicily – Sicily Italy Transportation, italy train

Amalfi Coast, Italy: Tourist, Travel & Hotel Guide, Italy Heaven, travel

    The Amalfi Coast

    Travel to italy

The Amalfi Coast, Italy (la Costiera Amalfitana) is a beautiful and renowned stretch of mountainous coastline south of Naples, in Campania. The southern end of the Bay of Naples stretches out in a steep and rocky peninsula that reaches towards the Isle of Capri. Sorrento, another major tourist destination, looks back towards Naples from the north coast of the peninsula. The southern side of the peninsula is dotted with picturesque villages and towns clinging giddily to cliffs; this is what is known as the Amalfi Coast.

For decades these fishing villages, stacked precariously above the sea, have been one of Italy’s major tourist attractions. Nowadays the area’s principal industry is tourism, and a staggering number of hotels have been squeezed into the restricted spaces of the small towns. Well-accustomed to catering for affluent foreign tourists, the area offers a generous selection of restaurants, bars, boutiques, boat trips.. just about anything self-indulgent that you can spend money on.

Although prices are generally high, there are affordable options in the area. Some visitors find the region over-developed and over-crowded, especially in the height of summer, but for many the little boutiques, ceramics shops and the welcome laid on for tourists is part of the coastline’s charm. The views are undeniably breathtaking, and away from the main road and the tourist hot-spots you can still discover the peace that charmed earlier visitors.

    Amalfi Coast holiday information

The main town of the coast is, of course, Amalfi, and this makes a good base for exploring the area. Other popular destinations are Ravello and Positano. Ravello is famous for its beautiful gardens perched high in the mountains above the sea, and for its classical music concerts. Positano is on the coast to the west of Amalfi, and is a traditionally ‘posh’ resort, where incredibly well-dressed tourists wander past exclusive boutiques before dining at even more exclusive restaurants.

Tourism is of prime importance in the area, and is the major employer. Consequently, almost everyone you meet will be friendly, obliging, speak very good English and will do their best to help you.

    Amalfi Coast travel information

    Travel to italy

The coastal road along the Amalfi Coast is famous for its hairpin bends, fantastic views and general scariness. The busy artery winds along the cliffs, affording glimpses of blue sea directly below. The towns are all built at a very steep angle, so streets zigzag backwards and forwards along the slopes. Many buildings – including hotels – are only accessible by steep alleys and stairways.

The public transport along the coast is cheap and fairly efficient. A company called SITA runs blue buses along the coast, from Salerno to Amalfi, from Amalfi to Sorrento, and from Amalfi to Ravello. Other small buses provide transport within the towns.

Ferries connect the principal resorts of the Amalfi Coast area, and can be much quicker than buses. Travelmar (tel. +39 089 872950) run connections between Salerno, Minori, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. In Salerno there is a tourist information office to your right as you leave the station; they can give you a timetable for the boats. Salerno to Amalfi takes 35 minutes, and costs Ђ4, with eight departures daily in each direction. Although the bus trip along the road is dramatic, it can leave you feeling quite queasy and I find the boat is a much more comfortable option.

The nearest airport to the Amalfi Coast is Naples Capodichino.

    Travel to italy

If you’re travelling to the Amalfi Coast from Rome or other parts of Italy, there are a number of options for getting to the area: You can take a train to Naples or to Salerno. From Salerno you can get the SITA bus to Amalfi, and then a bus connection onwards if necessary (or take a ferry all the way from Salerno). From Naples you can take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (see Sorrento page), then take a SITA bus to Amalfi via Positano.

An alternative option is to take a bus all the way from Rome. This is a much better idea than it may sound at first. A bus company called Marozzi run a fast efficient coach service from Tiburtina Station in Rome to Amalfi (summer season only) or to Sorrento (all year round). Obviously this method of travel depends upon road congestion, but the buses are usually fast and comfortable. Typically the Rome – Amalfi bus will leave Rome at 7am, arriving in Sorrento at 10:30am and Amalfi at 12 noon. The Sorrento service outside summer months generally leaves Rome at 3pm and arrives in Sorrento at 7pm. The return journey is at 3:25pm from Amalfi, picking up in Sorrento at 5pm and reaching Rome at 9pm. There is also an early morning service from Sorrento at 6am. Do check the latest timetables (link on the right in our links panel) as the times may change. The cost will be around Ђ20 each way or Ђ35 return to Amalfi, less to Sorrento. It is possible to buy tickets online, at various travel agencies in Rome (listed on the Marozzi website) or at the Marozzi kiosk by the bus station. (This is outside Tiburtina station; cross the area where orange ATAC buses are parked and you find a smarter covered area for long-distance coaches.) When I last travelled on the buses a few years ago in October I was told there was no need to book in advance, so I queued at the kiosk just before departure, but I’d suggest calling ahead to check, especially in peak season.

Bear in mind that the buses may not stop close to your hotel, and streets can be steep, or no more than staircases. Ask your hotel for precise directions, and if necessary carry the address in your hand, and ask the first locals you see. Some hotels offer their own minibus service for pick-ups, trips down to the beach etc.; find out about this if your hotel is one of them.

    Amalfi Coast accommodation

Before you look for an Amalfi Coast hotel, villa or apartment, take a few minutes to think about where you want to stay. Do you want a convenient base for travelling about by public transport? Do you want to find a beautiful tranquil spot where you can remain for a long weekend? Our destination guides (links above on the left) will help you compare the towns along the coast. Or perhaps your priority is simply to find a luxury hotel for a special holiday – an Italian honeymoon, perhaps – and you’re not too bothered about where you stay. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel, we have compiled a special selection of charming luxury hotels along the Amalfi Coast: Amalfi Coast luxury hotels.

The World – s Most Scenic Train Rides, Travel Leisure, train

The World’s Most Scenic Train Rides

Travel the old-fashioned way for a front-row seat to the world’s most beautiful landscapes. All aboard!

Technicolor greens, brilliant saris, ancient temples: these are my clearest memories of riding India’s South Eastern Railway many years ago. I still recall the rickshaws and rivers full of locals bathing, as the tropical landscape passed in a constant, captivating blur.

My vivid memories speak to the power and allure of train travel. After all, a railway itinerary allows travelers the opportunity to experience a destination in a way that’s just not possible from the air. Above the clouds, it’s hard to tell the difference between a Mexican canyon and a Norwegian fjord. From a train window, the passing vistas are completely distinct.

Sure enough, says Mark Smith, founder of the train travel website Seat 61, many travelers are frustrated with the airlines. “People want to cut their carbon footprint, and they want to avoid the hassle,” he says. “They’re looking for a more relaxing alternative.”

But let’s be clear: some train routes serve up more scenery than others—a lot more. The ride from Calcutta was mesmerizing, but India’s natural beauty shines in its northern mountains as well. There, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway takes riders on an eight-hour ride through jungle and tea gardens to the base of the Himalayas, all from a 19th-century steam locomotive.

Closer to home, the Rocky Mountaineer traverses the dramatic Canadian Rockies from Vancouver to Calgary. The two-day route passes the snowcapped peaks of the Coast Mountain range, the rushing Fraser River, and down over the Continental Divide to Banff National Park.

Best of all, even the most spectacular train ride offers riders something many travelers crave these days: authenticity. “A flight across Vietnam is an identical experience to a plane ride in India, Canada, or Australia,” says Smith. “But a train trip gives insight into the culture of a country. The journey becomes part of the experience.”

    Italy Holiday Packages

    Travel packages to italy

    Travel packages to italy

    Travel packages to italy

    Travel packages to italy

No matter how much literature one reads bout Italy, there is really only one way to understand why Italy has inspired so many artists through the ages: choose Italy as your next holiday destination. The atmosphere, the colours, the climate, the breathtaking landscapes, the spontaneously hospitable people, the culture, the delicious food and the generous wines will capture your soul. For the romantic at heart, Italy is paradise. What can be more romantic than a gondola ride along the canals of Venice, a late evening stroll along the banks of the Arno River in Florence or watching the sunset on the Roman skyline or in the gentle slopes of the Tuscan and Umbrian hills covered with olive groves and vineyards? History and art lovers will be stunned by the variety. Italy had been the cradle of many civilizations, the vestiges of which can be admired in their original splendour throughout the country from the small villages to the great cities. Each Italian region cherishes a richness of ancient tradition, folklore, craftsmanship, and heritage. Be prepared for some shopping amongst exclusive shops and boutiques where exquisite Italian designs are proudly and elegantly displayed. Jewellery, clothes, shoes, furniture and cars are some of the items with which the Italian stylists have conquered the world. Welcome to Italy!

Italy is a country in southern Europe that extends into the Mediterranean Sea, Italy is bordered by Monaco, France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

    Rome, Milan and Venice

The climate of the coastal regions is typically Mediterranean, with mild winters and generally hot and dry summers. During the winter, cloudy rainy days alternate with spells of mild sunny weather. Generally, the hottest month is July (where temperatures can reach 32 C/34 C); the coldest month is January; the wettest month is November, with an average rainfall of 129mm; while the driest month is July, with an average rainfall of 15mm.

Italian is the language of the majority of the population, but there are minorities speaking German, French, Slovene and Ladino. English is widely spoken in tourist establishments.

South African passport holders require a visa for Italy.

    Bottled water 1L EUR 2.00

    Can of coke EUR 1.50

Bottle of local beer EUR 4.50

    Take away lunch EUR 10.00

Dinner at a restaurant EUR 25.00

20 minute taxi journey EUR 50.00

*Purchase price will vary depending on point of sale.

Below are a few hints that may help you when planning for your trip to Italy:

A visa is required for South African passport holders.

Italy has enacted a tourist tax for hotel guests that will be collected by the hotel at the time of check-in. The tax rate varies depending on the category of the hotel, location and dates of stay from 1.00 – 5.00 per person per night. Please ensure you have budgeted for this.

Italy is situated in the temperate zone, but with a great variance in temperatures and climates. In the Alpine regions the winters are severe and the summers warm and pleasant. Further south, a typical Mediterranean climate is the rule, with cool (and at times rainy) winters and warm and dry summers. As an example, average rainfall in Rome varies between 130 mm in November and 20 mm in July, average temperature in November February is 5 14 degrees (Celsius), in the summer months (June September) temperatures range between approximately 20 and 30 degrees.

The currency used is the Euro. The bills will come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500. The design of the bills is the same throughout the euro zone. Coins will be worth either one or two euros or in euro cents — 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 or 1. The coins will have a common face on one side. But on the other side, the symbol will differ from one country to another. Whatever the denomination, the same euro bills and coins can be used in all of the euro zone countries.

Clothing depends on the time of year and your destination within Italy. Italians tend to dress quite formally except at the coastal resorts during the summer months. Casual clothing and footwear (such as trainers) are quite acceptable during the day but you should dress up when going out at night. Modest dress is required when visiting monasteries and churches. Comfortable shoes are a must.

English is relatively well spoken in tourist areas, but off the main tourist route, a basic knowledge of Italian would be an advantage.

Italy has the same voltage as South Africa (220V). The majority of electrical sockets take a two-prong plug. An adaptor- set (multi plug) is recommended.

Very few hotels offer porter service; so ensure that you can carry your own baggage.

This is done to a large extent on foot, so passengers must walk more than they normally do in S.A.

Although OK to drink from tap, tourism authorities recommend you drink bottled water. This is far cheaper if bought at kiosks rather than in your hotel.

The rail network is recommended between the cities. Taxis are relatively expensive, and seldom stop if one tries to hail them on the street. However, taxi stands are found in most tourist areas.

The location of your hotel is important, due to the relatively expensive public transportation system. The city centre is the place to see and be. It is usually cost-effective to pay a little more for a centrally located hotel, rather than saving on accommodation by booking in outlying areas the saving will probably be negated by transportation costs to and from attractions.

Service is included in all restaurant bills, so there is no need to tip ifyou do not want to do so. However, the Italian service industry is so poorly paid and waitering is considered a profession, a tip for good services would not be amiss. The Italians themselves often leave small change when paying for a drink and tip approximately 5% at restaurants. Tip taxi drivers and porters approximately Euro 1.-, depending on distance and/or pieces of luggage.

Guides and drivers should also receive a small gratuity for good service.

A number of goods are particularly associated with Italy such as fashion, porcelain, leather shoes, handbags, wallets and belts. Foodstuffs, such as cheeses, cured meats, olive oil and wine, and of course pasta, wine and delicious breads. Everywhere from the smallest village to the largest city, there is at least one weekly morning market where you can find everything from clothes to pottery and foods.

    Monday Friday: 09:00 – 12:30 15:00 18:00

    Saturday: 09:00 – 12:30

Many shops are closed half a day during the week. Usually, it is Monday morning or Wednesday afternoon. In tourist areas, the shops can open on Sundays and holidays.

Italy, one of Europe’s most popular destinations for American tourists, is easy for Americans to explore. With few arrival requirements for U.S. citizens, commencing your trip is easy. But as the seat of the ancient Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church, Italy offers a depth and breadth of history that will prove challenging to explore entirely within the length of your trip. Any visit to the country must include art museums, fine restaurants, wineries, historical sites — and a plan for your next trip to the country.

    Passport

Citizens from countries outside the European Union, like the United States, are required to present a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay in Italy. If you are a citizen of any European Union state, you need only present a national identity card to enter Italy. As an additional safety measure, print a copy of the picture page of your passport and store it separately from your passport. Although not required for entry, a copy of your passport will aid in replacing the document if it were to be lost or stolen.

    Italy Hotels

Most internet-savvy consumers these days know that just checking the prices on one hotel website is not enough – you have to compare the prices on a few different websites to make sure you are getting a good deal. But clicking around to all those different sites can be a pain, especially to those of us who just don’t have time to waste. That’s why we’ve set up this excellent search tool for hotels in Italy – it lets you compare the prices from several different websites with just one click!

We’ve got hundreds upon hundreds of hotels in Italy listed here, from cities all over the country, so you don’t have to look far to get all your Italy hotels booked for your upcoming trip. It’s one-stop-shopping for hotels, and we’ve tried to make it as simple and useful as possible. Here’s how it works:

    1. Choose a city from the drop-down menu in the blue box above, and choose the dates you’d like to stay in a hotel in that city.
  • Click the “Search” button.
  • A small window comes up asking you to verify how many guests will be staying in the hotel, how many rooms you want to reserve, and – most importantly – which websites you want to check for cost comparison purposes. Check as many boxes as there are websites you want to look at, then click “Search Deals.”
  • A new window will open for each of the websites you checked off as wanting to look at, so you can easily click between each one to compare prices, all without losing your original place on the Italy Logue website.
  • When you find the hotel you want to book, you just continue on through the booking process for that website in its new window, and you’re done!
  • That’s all there is to it – this is definitely the easy way to check Italy hotels quickly and easily, and at the same time do the necessary research and cost comparisons.

    Airlines flying to Italy

    Italy overview

To British tourists booking flights to Italy, the country epitomises la dolce vita. Cafés set among Roman ruins; sun-drenched cities filled with scooters; rolling Tuscan hills; vaporetti on the Venetian canals; arguably the greatest art collection of the world, both in galleries and churches; and everywhere you travel exquisite food and wine. Italians revel in the good things in life: eating, drinking and good conversation reigning above all else.

There is something to see and do in Italy year-round. There is skiing in the mountains at winter, endless sightseeing in the large and small towns throughout the year (the Leaning Tower alone is worth the cost of cheap flights to Pisa ) and in the summer sunbathing on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast, the South and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

The country is easily accessible from the UK and Ireland, making it perfect for a short break. Flights to Italy take a few hours and are available to a huge array of towns throughout the country. Each region, city and village has its own distinct feel, culture and food. You could travel for years in this stunning country and still find something new.

    Less.

    Italy climate

Italy’s climate changes with the region. Summers in northern Italy are warm and sometimes rainy. It’s humid in central Italy and hot and dry in the south. Winters are cold, damp and foggy in the north, near-freezing in the centre of the country and mild in the south. Temperatures on the coast are the same regardless of their location. The mountain areas have a much bigger difference between summer and winter and snow can start falling as early as mid-September.

    When to fly to Italy

Seaside hotels in Italy are packed from June into September. The mountain ski season is December through April. Despite the heat and humidity, the cities are busy April through October, particularly June and July, and Christmas and New Year’s. Venice is also packed during Carnival (February).

    Shoulder Season:

The crowds are less intense and the weather perfect April through May and September through October.

The low season usually runs from November to mid-December, and December 25 to March 31. Most attractions go on shorter winter hours or are closed for renovation. This can be a good time to find a cheap Italy flight and discounts on hotels. August is when most Italians take their vacations and close their shops and businesses.

    Getting around Italy

Travelling around Italy is easily done by bus, train, car, or plane. There are a number of airports serviced by domestic and international airlines in Italy, so flights are frequent and convenient.

Country driving requires nerves of steel, and city driving is not recommended. City drivers are aggressive and impatient, and parking spaces are rare and costly. Several cities add to the problem with confusing patterns of one-way streets. Most Italian cities’ historic centres are best covered on foot. When walking around Venice, allot extra time for getting lost — it’s bound to happen. For all cities, bring comfortable and sturdy walking shoes as there are lots of cobblestones. Public transport is the best way to travel in a city. Rome and Milan have underground trains, buses, and trams, and Florence and Bologna have buses. Venetian public transport is water buses and ferries.

Taxis are available in most cities in Italy, and water taxis in Venice. Either call for one or get one at a taxi stand. In Bologna, the network of one-way streets is so convoluted that taking a cab can be very expensive.

Mopeds are popular in Rome and Florence.

    Italy insider information

    • From Romulus and Remus to the Holy Roman Empire to modern day, Rome’s history is rich with political intrigue, grandeur, infamy, papacy, and artistry. The streets of Rome reflect its past: the Forum, Farnese Gardens, Pantheon, Colosseum, and Vatican City. Museums house masterpieces created and accumulated throughout Rome’s history. Fine dining and shopping can be had on any budget.
    • More beautiful than in the movies, Venice was Europe’s main trading post between the West and East for a thousand years. Merchants from a host of countries conducted business here, and everywhere you go are vestiges and relics of the past. Authentic Venetian glassware, lace, and Carnival masks are still produced here, and there’s always a concert going on somewhere.
    • Italy’s financial and business centre, Milan is rivaled only by Paris as a fashion centre. Dining, the theatre, and the nightlife are as popular as shopping. Italy’s most populous and prosperous city, Milan is not just glitz — La Scala opera house is here as are masterpieces like da Vinci’s Last Supper, grand architecture, and two famous football clubs.
    • Florence is considered Italy’s most beautiful city, and the museums are even better. The development and growth of the Renaissance are reflected in the paintings, frescos, statues, cathedrals, and chapels. Michelangelo’s David. Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, and Raphael’s Madonnas are here. For a change of pace, take a stroll in Dante’s neighbourhood, have a Florentine gelato, or browse the shops and markets.
    • Another beautiful city, Bologna has a medieval centre, old brick palaces, porticoed streets and squares, but without the enormous crowds of other Italian cities. As Italy’s gastronomic capital, just eating is sheer pleasure. Home to the oldest university in Europe, Bologna guarantees an interesting mix of performing arts and exhibits. The large student population also means a vibrant and diverse nightlife.

Italy has something to offer the visitor year-round, but there are considerations to weigh, such as weather, budget, cultural events, seasonal atmosphere and ambiance. Given the country s worldwide popularity, famous attractions can be crowded in summer, detracting from a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Prices and temperatures also peak in summer time. But guests are welcome to join with Italians as they celebrate each season, particularly at the table. Food enthusiasts might want to consult the culinary calendar before a trip.

    Seasonal Rates

Airline fares are lower from mid-September to March, but increase around Christmas. Peak tourist season begins in late May and lasts through the end of July — hotels and holiday rentals should be booked well in advance for this period. Hotel, villa and apartment rates are lower in spring and fall, the so-called shoulder seasons, but the best deals are in winter, except during the Christmas holidays.

Italy Vacation Packages – Italian Vacations #travel #spot

    #italy travel packages

    Share

There are so many types of vacation packages to Italy. it can be pretty confusing. The best Italy vacation packages are the ones that combine sights from the great cities of the country with the small, bright dwellings that sometimes gets overlooked in favor of the usual tours of Rome and Florence. You can choose from all kinds of different stimuli: sunny Sicilian beaches, quaint Tuscan streets, exciting Neapolitan night life, the historic artwork of Florence, the fashionistas of Milan. or the centerpiece of the best Italy vacation packages: the marvel that is Rome.

Picking which cities to include during your visit is the first, and most important, decision to make before choosing which of the vacations packages to Italy is right for you. Whether your vacation will be spent entirely in one city or will spread throughout the sprawling countryside, you can usually design Italy vacation packages to whatever your dreams and budget can afford. Most vacation packages to Italy include airfare, lodging, sightseeing tours and meals, though you can usually pick and choose from these options as you see fit. For instance if you prefer traveling on your own for long stretches of time, you can choose the bare essentials in your package – just airfare and hotel accommodations. No matter which combination you prefer, the best Italy vacation packages can still be among the most affordable packages available.

Food and wine vacation packages to Italy commonly feature travel through the rolling hills and medieval hamlets of Tuscany – probably the most popular Italian tour available. Surrounding yourself in Chianti vineyards is one thing, but if you can extend the tour into the farmlands of the neighboring Emilia-Romagna region, make sure to do so – this region is home to some of the finest dining in the country.

    Italy Map

Italy vacations are ideal for people who enjoy history, art, delicious foods, incredible wines, culture, natural scenery and so much more. Vacation packages can be catered so that you get the exciting nightlife of the big cities or the romantic seclusion of tiny medieval hamlets situated across the country. An Italy vacation package is also a perfect idea for a honeymoon – what better place than a destination where the air of romance permeates every town square, every winding street, every gondola ride – even the paintings on the wall attest to ageless love.

    Italy: Car Rental Italy

    Car Rental

Whether your car rental is made in Rome or Milan for business, or to drive through the landscapes of Tuscany, you should reserve the car before you arrive.

Most important comment: Be clear about whom you are dealing with at the outset; a car rental operator or a car rental broker.

Don’t decide on price alone. The company reputation, age of the fleet, the damage deductible, fuel policy, additional driver fees, etc. are important. When picking up the car, make sure the ‘Condition Report’ lists ALL damage existing on the car.

Search the TripAdvisor Forums for advice and traveler experiences with different car providers. Search Google with the terms: Independent Italy Car Rental Reviews.  Use Wikipedia to compare car models – for example a Fiat Panda may be smaller than you expect!

Car Rental Companies that operate in Italy:

    Driving in Italy

    ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones)

The historic centres of many cities, towns and villages throughout Italy have ZTLs. These limited zones have been put in place in order to reduce congestion and pollution making the centres more pleasant for residents and visitors alike. The zones in each place will have its own regulations; some zones are restricted to certain hours, some to residents only, some to cars with certain permits. These conditions will be set out underneath the road sign which marks the entrance to the zone. Although the sign is an international driving sign, it is one that some countries do not use, so it is essential that you familiarise yourself with this sign, before you travel to Italy.

    Speeding

Pay careful attention to speed restrictions. Again, there are cameras on some roads and motorways and again, if you are caught speeding a fine of over 100 Euros will eventually find you.

There are signs warning of the cameras and the cameras themselves are housed in large grey boxes by the sides of the road. On major motorways there is system they call “tutor” which identifies you at a certain point on overhead cameras and then monitors your progress through a number of similar points. The system works out your average speed and if it decides that you couldn’t have gone that distance without breaking the speed limit, then you can expect a fine in the post.

Of course, you could also be stopped and ticketed by a police officer. The police also have the authority to make an on the spot fine.

Generally speaking, the speed limits are 50km/h in built-up areas, 90km/h on ordinary roads, 110km/h on dual carriages and 130km/h on motorways. In wet weather the limit is reduced to 90km/h on dual carriageways and 110km/h on motorways.
