Charitable Lead Trusts #charitable #lead #annuity #trust

Charitable Lead Trusts

A charitable lead annuity trust gives you a way to make a large gift to charity, get a tax break, and eventually leave assets to family members. These trusts are complicated, and they re most often used by rich people who want to donate to charity and avoid the federal gift and estate tax (which only the very largest estates pay). In recent years, changes in the federal gift and estate tax laws, as well as market conditions, have made charitable lead trusts more attractive to wealthy donors.

You can establish a charitable lead trust during your life or at your death, but it s most common to create one at death. You direct that certain assets (usually cash or securities) be held in the trust for a particular charity. The charity receives payments from the trust each year for a certain number of years. When that period is up, the trust ends, and whatever assets are left in the trust go to beneficiaries you named your children or grandchildren, perhaps.

Advantages of a Charitable Lead Annuity Trust

The charity benefits by receiving a reliable stream of income for as long as the trust lasts. The financial benefit to you is that any leftover assets going to your non-charitable beneficiaries can be transferred free of federal gift and estate tax. For example, you could put $1 million in a charitable lead trust and end up with several hundred thousand dollars for your eventual beneficiaries and get the same gift and estate tax benefit as if you had simply written a $1 million check to the charity.

The non-financial benefit, of course, is that you further the work of a tax-exempt entity that you believe in a university, research institution, arts group, hospital, human rights or animal welfare organization, to name just a few possibilities.

Other kinds of charitable trusts also let you save on taxes while making large charitable donations. For more information, see the articles on Charitable Remainder Trusts and Pooled Charitable Trusts .

How the Trust Works

Here s a more detailed look at the mechanics of the trust and some factors you should think about if you re considering this kind of trust as part of your estate planning.

The trust is irrevocable. Once you put assets into a charitable lead trust, they re locked up; you can t change your mind and get them back. Given that it usually doesn t make sense, financially, to create one of these trusts unless you can put $1 million or more in it, it s a big commitment.

How long does it last? Many of these trusts are written to last 10 to 20 years. You can, however, specify that the trust is to last for a certain person s lifetime for example, you might want the trust to last as long as your spouse lives. (There are restrictions on whose life you can use for this purpose only your own, your spouse s, or certain lineal descendants.)

How much will the trust and family members inherit? With an annuity trust, each year the trust pays the charity a percentage of the initial value of the assets. You set the percentage. The charity is guaranteed to get this amount or all of the trust assets, if the money runs out before all of the promised payments can be made. Your non-charitable beneficiaries don t have any guarantees; how much, if anything will be left for them depends on the return on investment of the trust assets. If returns are greater than payments, there will be something left.

How the tax benefit works. When you set up a charitable lead trust, the IRS determines the present value of your total gift to the charity over the life of the trust. The present value of your charitable gift isn t subject to the gift and estate tax.

To make the present value determination, the IRS takes into account the amount that will be paid to the charity each year, the length of the trust, and the expected return on investment of trust assets. The IRS assumes the return on investment of the trust assets will be at the applicable interest rate, also called the hurdle rate. The IRS sets the hurdle rate each month. It is based on U.S. Treasury rates, which means that for the last few years, the hurdle rate has been very low around 1.5% for much of 2012.

The amount the trust assets are expected to be worth at the end of the trust term, less the present value of your gift, leaves the amount your non-charitable beneficiary is expected to receive. Only that amount is subject to gift and estate tax and will likely be covered by using a small part of your gift and estate tax exemption ($5.49 million per person, and twice that for married couples, in 2017).

Example: Say you put $1 million in a 20-year charitable lead trust for your alma mater and direct that the university is to receive $50,000 each year. At the end of 20 years, whatever is left is to go to your daughter. The IRS, using the hurdle rate in effect when you establish the trust, estimates that after 20 years, there will be about $116,000 left for her. That amount is subject to gift and estate tax but because it s well below the exempt amount, no tax will be due. If after 20 years there s actually much more money left for your daughter (because the trust assets grew at a greater than predicted rate), it won t be subject to estate tax (the trust assets are out of your estate). On the other hand, if investment performance is unexpectedly bad, there may be less or nothing for your daughter.

Financial and Legal Planning for a Charitable Lead Trust

Obviously, you need very good legal and financial advice to set up a charitable lead trust. They re very complicated devices, with lots of possible variations. A trust needs to be drawn up by a lawyer who s got a lot of experience with estate tax planning and who understands your financial and personal situation. The trusts desirability also depends on outside factors that change, it seems, constantly: interest rates and federal tax laws. Get reliable, up-to-date advice from an expert before you decide to go down this road.

Confusing Terms: Lead Generation Vs #lead #generation #sales

In working with many clients, prospects, and industry leaders, I see much confusion about terms surrounding Lead Generation Teams, Inside Sales Teams, and Telesales Teams. There are many terms, and people actually interpret and use them differently. So, in this blog, I’d like to provide my definitions and clarifications around these functions based on my many interactions with our clients, prospects, and analysts.

1. Lead Generation Team

The function of this Team Is to produce Qualified Leads and then hand them off to the Outside Sales Force or the Inside Sales Force (see number 2 below). This Lead Generation Team sits between marketing and sales and we call it the transmission gear between marketing and sales. This Team can follow up and qualify inbound leads coming in from marketing. And this Team can also conduct outbound, proactive, cold calling into target accounts to identify Qualified Leads within these specific target accounts.

Now the tricky part. The Team that I’m calling a Lead Generation Team goes by many names. Here are the various names given to this Team. Also, I put in parentheses if the use of the name is trending ‘Upward in use” (increasing usage) or “Downward in use” (decreasing usage).

  1. Account Development Team (increasing usage)
  2. Business Development Team
  3. Demand Generation Team (increasing usage)
  4. Inbound Prospecting Team
  5. Inside Sales Team (Wait, what. Yes, yes – see number 2 below. In my opinion, this term should not be used for a Lead Generation Team.)
  6. Lead Management Team
  7. Lead Qualification Team
  8. Outbound Prospecting Team
  9. Sales Development Team (increasing usage)
  10. Telemarketing Team (decreasing usage)
  11. TeleProspecting Team
  12. Territory Development Team (increasing usage)

Sorry – the Lead Generation Team goes by many names and that’s why it gets confusing.

2. Inside Sales Team

The function of this Team is to close deals for revenue. There are two types of Inside Sales Teams:

  1. New Account Inside Sales Teams that close new accounts
  2. Installed Base Inside Sales Team that close renewals, upgrades, cross-sells, and add-ons to the installed base.

Now the tricky part again. This Team also goes by different names. For example:

The New Account Inside Sales Team is sometimes called the:

  1. Corporate Sales Team (increasing usage)
  2. Hybrid Sales Team (increasing usage)
  3. Remote Sales Team (increasing usage)
  4. Telesales Team (decreasing usage)
  5. Virtual Sales Team (increasing usage)

The Installed Base Sales Team is sometimes called the:

  1. Customer Service Sales Teams
  2. Post Sales Team
  3. Renewals Sales Team

Key Takeaway:
So, as you can see, the terms can get very confusing. In my opinion, your two key takeaways are:

1. A Lead Generation Team produces Qualified Leads for your sales force from either inbound prospecting or proactive, outbound prospecting.

2. An Inside Sales Team produces revenue by taking a prospect through the complete sales cycle including closure, for both new accounts, and for your installed base.

In euchre, What is the best card to lead first? #yuker, euchre, first

What Card should I Lead? page 1

One of the first questions new players frequently ask is ‘having the first play, what card should I lead?’ There are many different factors involved. Let’s take a look at some common situations.

Opponents bid and I have first lead

Usually the best starting lead is a singleton ace (an ace with no other cards in that suit). An ace with one other card in that suit (doubleton ace) should be your second choice, if not next suit (the shortened suit which is the same color as the trump suit). Playing a doubleton ace in next suit, or an ace in a suit where you have two or more additional cards, means there are at most three cards remaining in that suit. It will likely be trumped, probably by the bidder. If you wait, you may be able to make these aces good after a round of trump has been played.

With no good ace to play, try setting up a king for use later in the hand. This is done by leading the low card from a King – X combination. You are hoping for the ace to fall. While not guaranteed, this strategy may work and is worth a try. Even in a junk hand, it’s important to try and use every card to your advantage.

If you don’t have any of the above, the best lead seems to be the smallest non-trump card from your shortest suit. This is based on my experience and worth a try. No matter what you end up leading, keep in mind you’re trying to lead a suit that your opponents won’t able to trump.

In general it is not a good idea to lead the right when your opponents call. In fact most of the time it is not wise to lead any trump when they call. This only serves to take trump out of your partner’s hand and helps your opponents to make their bid. There are a few unique circumstances where a trump lead may be correct. There is a link at the bottom with more information.

This is good time to mention that one should never lead the suit that was turned down. The most likely reason it was turned down is that your opponents didn’t have any or many of that suit. If you hold an ace in the turned down suit, it is best to wait till later in the hand to play it.

If the dealer picks up and you hold three trump, lead the middle trump, not your smallest. You don’t want to lead a small trump as this may allow the bidder to take the trick using their small trump. You are trying to force out their large trump, which could leave you in a position to control trump latter on. Many times this is the only way to set them up for a euchre, as there is a chance that you hold more trump then the bidder does.

My partner bid and I have first lead

If your partner declared trump and you hold the right or left bower, this should be your first lead. This tells your partner where it is, and informs them how to play the rest of their hand. If you hold both bars (bowers), only play the right. Do not play both, as this may clear out all trump and leave the opposition holding the boss aces.

If you do not hold a bower, lead a small trump. Since your partner bid, they most likely hold at least one bower. A trump lead should take out a round of trump and bring the lead straight to your partner. It will also give you partner a chance to play any aces they may hold. You will get a chance to play your aces latter in the hand. Remember, there are a total of seven trump cards, and a trump lead could remove four of them straight away. This greatly increases the chance of your team’s aces winning later.

On a call from 3rd seat, a trump lead is mandatory. Often a team has been euchred because the partner did not lead trump first. If you don’t have a trump to lead then lead your aces as described in the first paragraph. By leading an ace or a non-trump card you are telling your partner you don’t have any trump in your hand. Now he knows the other trump could be in the oppositions’ hands and he can play his hand accordingly.

I bid and have the first lead

On a bid from 1st seat, you should start by planning out how you are going to play the hand. Ask yourself: How strong is my hand? Would it be best to get trump out of the way so I can make my other cards good? Will I be able to control trump?

In a hand where you hold aces and you also hold a couple of trump plus the right bower, your best lead is normally the right. By removing trump from your opponents’ hands you will increase the chances of making your aces good. When you lead the right, watch to see if your partner follows suit. If they don’t, and you hold the left plus another trump, lead the left. The opposition is likely to be holding more than one trump, and you don’t want them to be able use trump against you. If you partner throws off because they can’t follow suit pay attention to what card they play. They may be giving you information on what suit they hold boss cards in.

On a next call, as your partner may hold a bower, many times a small trump is your best lead. This will draw out a round of trump, pass the lead to your partner, and allow them to play any aces they may hold.

Guidelines to help get you started

As your skill level advances, you may want to try out different strategies. Plan out your hand and try to make it work for you. Only experience will teach you the best lead in any given hand. Remember, there are four things to take into consideration to determine your lead: Who made trump? What is trump? What is your position at the table? What cards do you hold in your hand? Your position and who made trump are the most important.

It may also be a good idea to occasionally change the way you lead. You don’t want your opponents to be able to predict what your lead will be. Some people suggest switching between colors when you are in the lead. So if black was just led, lead red, and vice-versa. When you have that option, it’s worth a try.

Normally one should not lead trump on the opponents call. Improper leading of trump generally results in helping them making a point. While there are some circumstances where this lead may be correct and possibly the only way to set a team up for a euchre, new players should avoid leading trump.

In particular, it is worth asking yourself
the following questions:

Should I try and pull trump?
Should I lead a loser and hope my partner can trump it?
What suit was turned down?
Do I play my Ace now or wait until the end?

Each decision could mean the success or failure of the hand. There is little opportunity to recover from a mistake. Remember, this is a partnership game, so try to play into your partners hand when possible. Try different types of leads. Through practice, you will learn what works best.

4th trick leads

There are those players who think that once they get to the 4th trick and make their point, nothing else matters. They just toss out a random card to get the hand over. The truth is that the correct play here can make the difference between 1 and 2 points. There are even some hands when the correct lead could mean saving their team from being euchred. Knowing what card to play on the 4th lead is such an important part of a player’s euchre strategy that I have dedicated an entire section to it.

Here’s what our viewers are saying

My brothers-in-law tried teaching me euchre this weekend, and I have the basics in mind, but, they gt kind of mad at me for this: if it s my lead and I have 9/Q/A of the trump suit, why *shouldn t* I lead with the 9? Wouldn t sacrificing that 9 to draw out the bowers make my Q and A stronger?

To give an answer I would need more information. Who made trump, what position are you, was it the first lead of the hand.

but let s assume you re in 1st and your partner just named trump. Then I would agree a trump lead is best.

Don s right, position and who made it is everything. Assuming your 1st.
1 if you made trump and play your 9 the opposing team can now use a smaller trump card (Q) to steal a trick. Or sees your partner play a K or Bower and the 4th player trumps higher.
2 if you did not make trump youve now sucked not only you small trump but whatever you partner had. If you partner has 1 trump they could be useless now. If they have 2 trump your team went from 5 trump to 2 now.

Here s an app that will help determine what your odds are.

What is Lead Nurturing? Overview – Resources #lead #nurturing #programs

Lead Nurturing

What is Lead Nurturing?

Lead nurturing is the process of developing relationships with buyers at every stage of the sales funnel, and through every step of the buyer’s journey. It focuses marketing and communication efforts on listening to the needs of prospects, and providing the information and answers they need.

  • On average, 50% of the leads in any system are not yet ready to buy (Marketo).
  • Almost 80% of new leads never become sales (MarketingSherpa).
  • Companies that excel at lead nurturing generate 50% more sales ready leads at a 33% lower cost (Marketo).
  • Nurtured leads makes 47% larger purchases than non-nurtured leads (The Annuitas Group).

Effectively developing leads in today’s buyer-driven marketplace means establishing and nurturing buyer relationships with a strategic lead scoring system, and then filling out that framework with a thorough content marketing plan.

How to Score Leads for Nurturing

Marketing and sales need to get together to develop a lead scoring strategy, to pinpoint where a particular lead is within the brand’s buying model. It is the backbone of a strong lead nurturing system, because it identifies when and how to address each buyer with the most timely and relevant communications.

The details of any lead scoring system will be specific to every brand, based on your industry, niche, and unique audience. There are, however, four dimensions of lead scoring that should be evaluated as you develop your strategy.

1 – Lead Fit: Is She Your Type?

Lead fit describes how well a particular buyer matches the brand’s ideal prospect, or usual buyer. This introductory-level data will tell you if a lead is worth pursuing at all, and breaks down into three categories:

  • Demographics—The buyer’s job title, company size, location, years of experience, etc.
  • Firmographics—The company’s name, size, location, annual revenue, etc.
  • Budget, Authority, Need, Time (BANT)—Can the lead afford you? Does he have the authority to purchase? Is there a need you can answer? What is his timeline?

Most of this information is easily collected with forms in front of gated content, email subscriptions, and/or a quick Google search.

2 – Lead Interest: Does She Like You?

Tracking online behavior to determine how attractive your brand is to a buyer is the next stage of lead scoring. Is she spending a lot of time on your site? Engaging with social networks? Assign numerical values to some of those behaviors.

3 – Lead Behavior: Is She Using You for Your Body (of Content)?

More closely monitoring lead behavior will indicate if a lead is serious about buying, or just grabbing info. Assign lower values to introductory behaviors like clicking through blog posts, and higher values to actions like downloading gated content or registering for a webinar.

4 – Buying Stage and Timing: When to Pop the Question

Scoring for buying stage helps determine where a buyer is within the brand’s sales model. One way to score buying stage is to align behaviors with the top, middle, or bottom of your sales funnel. Attach higher scores to clicks on pricing sheets and product demos.

Nurturing Leads with Content Marketing

If lead scoring is the backbone of a successful online marketing strategy, then content marketing is the muscle. In a marketplace where buyers are increasingly wary of ads and increasing self-educating through the funnel, content marketing has stepped up to the place to give brands a voice

Simply put, content marketing is the process of creating relevant and valuable content—from blog posts to infographics to video—that attracts, engages, and serves your audience. Buyers are already scouring the web for answers to their questions and solutions for their problems that brands are uniquely positioned to provide. Content marketing welcomes them at every stage of the buyer’s journey, and helps move them through the funnel

Content Marketing and Email

Despite the Wall Street Journal’s preemptive obituary. and the Gmail tab scare of 2013. email marketing is still one of the best ways to communicate with an audience

  • 74% of consumers prefer to receive commercial communications via email (Merkle ).
  • Email marketing has an ROI of 4,300% (Direct Marketing Association ).
  • Relevant emails drive 18 times more revenue than broadcast emails. (Jupiter Research

Email is the most direct way to get specific content to a specific lead, but effective email marketing needs to be five things

  • Trusted—A smart opt-in process sets up accurate and happy expectations, which means your content will be well received in someone’s inbox.
  • Relevant—The days of email “blasts” are over. Segment your audience as much as possible, and send small, highly-relevant campaigns.
  • Conversational—Give your buyer a chance to respond, and make sure your next round of content takes that response into consideration.
  • Coordinated—Email content should be the hub that connects social and website content.
  • Strategic—Opens and CTRs are good, but you want sales. The system you use for emailing content needs to be able to deliver some kind of ROI metric.

Content Marketing on Your Brand’s Website

Your brand site is, of course, your online home base. With a robust SEO strategy, it will be the first impression your audience gets of your brand, and should be a constant, continual resource for leads at every stage of the buyer’s journey.

There are three areas of your website that should be the focus of a content marketing strategy:

  • Strategic landing pages—Develop strong landing pages that make strategic use of keyword/user intent combinations, and that demonstrate authority on a topic of interest (as opposed to just one keyword).
  • Blog—The branded blog is a key tool for keeping website content fresh and updated.
  • Resource Center—An online library, your brand’s resource center collects all of your content on every topic, and strategically organizes and presents it to create a killer user experience.

Content Marketing on Social Media

Taking a content strategy to social media requires a different kind of creativity, but every social channel is another outlet for branded content

Strategic social marketing doesn’t mean producing all the content for all the channels. Match your target audience demographics to the demographics of the major networks. and determine which types of content (images, video, ebooks, etc.) work best to tell your brand’s story. Focus your social content strategy where the two overlap, and remember the golden rules of social marketing:

  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  2. Inbound is not enough.
  3. You must have good content and solid offers.
  4. You will need a strong CTA.
  5. Always add value.
  6. Never forget that social is a two-way street.
  7. Peer-to-peer sharing is the best way to get your message heard.

How Marketing Automation Helps Nurture Leads

A single entrepreneur can build trust and maintain authentic conversations with maybe two dozen leads. A small marketing team, with good time management skills, can stay on top of maybe 50. But you need more than 50 leads in your funnel to keep growing. Marketing automation is a technology solution that allows brands to streamline and automate their marketing efforts across various channels, to improve efficiency and drive more sales.

Automating a workflow helps align all of your marketing efforts and messages, and makes sure that each lead receives the most relevant messages at the most opportune times.

Small business and startups can usually keep track of a short list of leads in order to create meaningful, conversational campaigns, but as the business scales and the top of the funnel gets wider, nurturing leads in an authentic way becomes impossible for one person—or even a small team of marketers.

Lead Nurturing Can’t Wait

As sales funnels lengthen, buyers become more independent, and attention spans shrink, the case for strategic, effective lead nurturing continues to grow. If your brand isn’t nurturing a buyer, your competitors probably are, and you will lose sales and market share to the more attentive voice.

Get sales and marketing together this week to develop, or review and hone, your lead scoring process. Then, start building content to deliver to each of your personas in a small range of points. When your spreadsheets get out of hand, or you decide there are other things you need to spend time on, consider a good marketing automation system to help nurture leads effectively while you continue to work on growing your brand.
