When your spouse tells you that she s filed a divorce petition, you’ll probably spend the next several days waiting for a sheriff s officer to show up at your workplace to deliver the papers. That scenario is more fiction than reality. Most states offer other more pleasant options for service. In some cases, you may receive her papers the same day your spouse files them. In others, the process can take weeks or even months.

Time Limit

Your spouse doesn’t have to serve you with her papers the same day she files them. However, most states will dismiss her petition or complaint if she doesn’t get around to doing so within a reasonable period of time. The definition of “reasonable” varies among states. In California, it is two years. In other states, it is a matter of months. How long service takes depends on when your spouse begins the process.

Acceptance of Service

The fastest method of service is when you make arrangements with your spouse to voluntarily accept the papers. If you’ve retained an attorney, he will usually accept them on your behalf. If your spouse has retained an attorney, you can generally pick up the papers at his office and sign for them there. Your spouse can also give the papers to you personally in most states, as long as you sign an acceptance of service or a waiver of official service. Your spouse’s divorce petition will have to wait for an available deputy or officer, then that officer must track you down during business hours to serve you. This can take up to a week. The process is usually quicker if your spouse pays for a private process server to give you the paperwork. Private servers are not limited to working only during business hours and can call ahead to arrange to meet with you somewhere. Some states also allow a disinterested third party over the age of majority to hand-deliver the papers. If your spouse chooses any of these methods, you’ll probably receive the papers within about a week.

Publication

If your spouse doesn’t know where you’re currently living or working, this can delay the process of service significantly. If you’re trying to stay off the radar and avoid service, she can usually serve you by publication in a newspaper in most states. However, this requires special permission from the court. The entire process can take months, because most states will require her to diligently try to find you first.

Thread: Displaying File ‘Comments’ in (Properties Details) with Excel VBA

I am having some issues finding a way to tell excel to pull Comments and Tags from files. I pulled the following code from another source:

I have been using it to get the Name, Size, Type, and relevant Dates associated with files in a folder. However, this doesn’t seem to work with finding Comments, Tags, etc.

I have found functions that are used to pull Comments and Tags from files but haven’t been able to incorporate them in to the code I already have. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could show me how to do this.

a) Display all known file Attribute number designations in Column A.

b) Display the Filename in Column B. the Attribute Name in Column C and the Attribute value for each file in Column D.

btw. this is from code i found in about 3 seconds via google (not kidding. it was 3rd link on the first page..). the key google search term being:

excel + Scripting.File + file attributes + vba

Note: Just change the following line to reference a filepath on your PC.

Also. just noticed in your code. you can shorten this..

to be just this. (replace YourSheetName with your actual sheet..)

Hello, I have tried the code that I was provided and it works wonderfully when obtaining the Comments from files!

However, I would like to integrate the code with my original code on the first post so that the comments appear in line with the data that the first code gathers.

I am having trouble doing this because both codes call different application objects (not quite sure if thats what they are called), oShell and scripting.filesystemobject and the variables from each code depend on these objects. If someone could tell me how I can use these two codes in unison I would be grateful.

Trade Schools

A certificate from a travel trade school such as the Travel Academy can be earned in about eight to 16 weeks, depending on the number of hours a student devotes to classes. Intense training through trade schools focuses on the hands-on skills needed to work in the field. A curriculum that prepares a travel agent to work in an agency includes instruction on airport codes and airport gate procedures, cruise line operations, geography, tour companies, and how to use various computer reservations systems.

College

While a degree from a trade school can help a travel agent land an entry-level position, a college degree can provide travel agents with a leg up on the competition for the more favorable jobs. Bachelor’s degrees that travel agencies consider appropriate include business, marketing, communications or hospitality. Other degrees that could open the door to travel industry options include business administration, accounting, human resources and management.

Additional Skills

Many travel agencies place importance on the ability to speak several languages. Travel agents who learn French or Spanish can find additional opportunities. Travel agents, both new and experienced, can start their own business by simply paying a fee to a number of large travel agencies that use independent agents. Contract agents can start immediately by using the large reservation capabilities of these companies.

Experience

Experience counts in the travel industry. Most established travel agencies require new agents to have two to five years experience. This experience can be gained from working directly for a travel provider such as a cruise line or airline, in support positions at large travel companies, and in hotels and car rental companies.

Certificates

Time spent in professional development courses and training can add further credentials to help agents land a position. The National Business Travel Association offers a program for agents to earn a Certified Corporate Travel Executive designation in fewer than 30 days of classes. A two-day workshop is required to receive the Corporate Travel Expert certification,and a Global Leadership Professional designation can be earned in two years, ideal for working professionals looking for management opportunities.

How Long Will It Take to Become a Paramedic?

One of the most common questions for those interested in becoming a paramedic is “how long will paramedic training actually take?” And the honest answer is that it varies, as each program has a different set of hours devoted to didactic instruction, clinical experience and field internships.

If you’re simply interested in becoming a paramedic sooner rather than later, you might opt for a Paramedic Certificate. This can often be earned in less than a year. Conversely, if you’re interested in not only being a paramedic but advancing further in health care, you might choose a college that offers students an Associate Degree.

Travel games for kids: fun for long waits and quiet places

Kids don’t believe everything comes to those who wait, so it helps to have some travel games at the ready to make waits pass more smoothly. Longer travel games come in handy in restaurants, queues and at public transport lines, because they distract kids from the time it’s taking for something to happen.

Sometimes you might just want your little treasures to keep quiet. Quiet games can teach children that loud behaviour is not always okay, as well as buy a few moments of peace in a hectic day. Although many museums are becoming more interactive there are still many old-style museums that will have a ‘look, don’t touch’ feel that frustrates kids. With a bit of preparation, these games can get children to appreciate looking in a museum as much as you will.

Here are some great games to keep the kids engaged and entertained when they have to put up with long waits or quiet places:

Games for waiting

  • Storylines

A good game for the whole family that is limited only by imagination. Start a story with a sentence (‘Once upon a time…’ might be a good place to start) with the next family member adding the next sentence. Add one that doesn’t make sense or finish your sentence with a cliff-hanger to keep it interesting.

  • Alphabet games
    Alphabet games can run for hours if need be, so they’re perfect for undetermined waits. Name a category, then run through the alphabet naming something from each category. Animals (‘Aardvark, bumble bee, cat’) are easier, but harder topics can be famous people or song titles. Double points for double letters, like bumble bee. In other alphabet games, you can choose a category and all the players have to name something beginning with that letter before moving on to the next letter (eg ‘Apple’, ‘Asparagus’, ‘Artichoke’). For older kids make up a structure, such as ‘My name is blank from blank where they make the best blank’ filling in each of the blanks with a name, a location and an object starting with each letter of the alphabet.
  • Guessing games

    Guessing games can be good for shorter waits, as kids can get frustrated or bored. Most guessing games are based on simple yes or no questions, using general questions (‘Is it alive?) to narrow it down to specific guesses (‘Is it a rabbit?’). In ‘guess the food’, one player will nominate a describing word (‘crunchy’, ‘sweet’ or ‘red’) with other players asking questions to guess the food. Use other categories like animals or famous people. You can prepare some cards with categories or names on them. Keep the games located in your travels, using famous people or animals from the country you’re visiting.

  • Games for quiet places

    • Guess the letter

    Another one for readers. Draw a letter on the palm of another player with their eyes closed. Try whole words if guessing a letter is too easy.

  • Whispers
    Pass a whispered message from one player to the next saying the message only once. As players pass it on from one to the next the message will become garbled. In a reasonably sized group (usually more than five people), the message should end up as nonsense when the last player says it out loud to the group.
  • Did you see?
    A game that might involve a bit of preparation. Make a list of things to see in a gallery or museum by asking the kids what they think they’ll see or prepare a list beforehand based on an LP guidebook. Kids can check off their list with a prize or treat for the most complete list. Remember to have a range of items that are both common (so kids achieve something easily) and rare (to challenge them). You can debrief and talk about items on the list. More complex versions of the game might involve getting more than one of each item (eg seven paintings with a blonde man in them).
  • How many…
    Guess how many of an object you’ll see on your museum visit and get the littlies to count them up as they go. Good objects include sculptures, gold frames or security guards.
  • What was it?

    A simple game that will get kids looking at exhibits or paintings. Give the kids a minute or two to look at an exhibit, then ask them ‘What was it?’, ‘Who used it?’, ‘When did they use it?’ or if it’s a portrait ask ‘Who was it?’, ‘What did they do?’. Ask any other questions to stimulate the imagination. Be prepared to answer some tricky questions yourself.

    Factors Affecting Completion Time

    Your time as a doctoral student may be shorter or longer than the average, depending on a number of factors.     Previous Education

    You may enter a doctoral degree program immediately after earning an undergraduate degree, or you may earn a master’s degree first.
