Florida Auto Insurance Discount

Each year, millions of Americans receive traffic tickets for various driving violations. Typically, a citation means violation points will be added to your license; when insurance companies review public records, they can discover these points.

In such cases, the insurance company will often increase the violator’s insurance premiums because he or she is deemed to be a higher risk and no longer a “safe driver.” If you are the one who has been ticketed, then this person is you! The increased premiums vary but can be quite substantial and may remain in place for several years, resulting in hundreds of dollars of increased insurance expenses.

Fortunately, in Florida, drivers who receive a traffic ticket can complete a basic defensive driving improvement course and in return:

  • Prevent points from being added to their license; and
  • Prevent their insurance rates from being increased (as long as the violation did not involve an accident). **

The investment for an online traffic school course can prevent you from having points added to your license and prevent your insurance rates from being increased pursuant to Florida statutes. Yes, traffic school may save you hundreds of dollars in increased premiums. Take action today and enroll!

Lowest Airfare Guarantee #asia #travel.com

#best price on airfare

Lowest Airfare Guarantee

We will beat any airfare quote or you fly free

Applies to genuine quotes from airlines and other Australian registered businesses and websites for travel that originates/departs from Australia. Quote must be in writing and presented to us on the same day as it was created, must be presented to us prior to booking and must be for the same form of payment. Fare must be available, able to be booked by the general public when you bring it to us and be for the same dates, airlines, number of passengers, booking classes and flight numbers. The written quote must show the date it was created and the final price including all applicable fees and charges (including booking / service fees and all charges for the form of payment chosen). Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded. We will beat the price by $1 per person.

Lowest Airfare Guarantee – why book anywhere else?

When it comes to cheap flights, we are so sure we will not be beaten on price that if you find a cheaper available airfare quote and we don’t beat it, we will fly you to your destination for free.

How can I Fly Free?

As long as the same airfare is available, Flight Centre will BEAT any genuine written airfare quote by $1 per person.

Step 1: Bring us a written quote prior to booking

Your quote must be in writing and must relate to standard airfares available to the general public. Your genuine written quote must be presented to us on the same day as it was created and prior to booking. Travel must originate/depart from Australia. Does not apply to prices from Flight Centre’s own website. The quote must show the date it was created and show the final price including all fees and charges (including booking / service fees and all charges for the form of payment chosen). If your quote is from a website, it must show the final price payable at the final payment stage and must show all applicable fees and charges. Your quote must be for the same form of payment as you intend to pay Flight Centre (e.g. cash, credit card).

You can provide written airfare quotes from:

  1. Other Australian travel agencies
  2. Airlines; and
  3. Other Australian-registered businesses and websites

Step 2: Confirmation that the quote is genuine and available

Your consultant will need to confirm that the quote is genuine, available and able to be booked by the general public when you present it to us. If it is, we will BEAT it by $1 per person.

We will require you to book your flight when we beat your quote and pay in full on the same day, using the same form of payment as for the competitor’s quote. The change and cancellation conditions specific to your booking will apply. If the quoted airfare is not available, invalid or incorrect then we will endeavour to find you the best available alternative that suits your requirements.

If we believe your written quote contains an error in the pricing of the fare, or that the pricing, fare or booking class offered is no longer available to book on the same date, airline and flight number, for the same number of passengers, we have a 24 hour period to investigate the price and BEAT it by $1 per person.

Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded.

If we are required to beat your airfare quote and we don’t then you Fly Free!

Your consultant will do everything they can to beat the airfare you have been quoted. If the qualifying criteria are met we will beat that price by $1 per person. If the qualifying criteria are met and your consultant does not beat your quoted price you will receive your flight free of charge.

You must make your free flight claim prior to flying or within 7 days of your quote not being beaten (whichever occurs first). The free flight will be booked and paid for by us and will be identical to the one you have asked us to price beat. We do not reimburse customers for flights they have purchased elsewhere, nor do we provide them with cash or vouchers to the value of the flight we were asked to price beat. Despite anything else in the airline’s terms and conditions, you cannot cancel your free flight and claim a refund.

When to Book Flights to Get the Lowest Fares

By Cameron Huddleston | March 4, 2014

The best times to buy airline tickets depend on where you want to go and when you plan to travel.

As any procrastinator can attest, you’ll usually pay a big premium by waiting until the last minute to book a flight. But you’ll also pay more if you purchase your tickets too far in advance. So when should you book a flight to get the lowest fare?

SEE ALSO: 9 Ways to Avoid Airline Fees

Those who booked before that window paid an average of $33 more per ticket, and those who booked after that period an average of $73 more per ticket, according to CheapAir.com. However, there are exceptions to these findings. Although you usually won’t get a deal if you wait to book a flight 14 days or fewer in advance, you can save by purchasing tickets for some flights more than 54 days before departure.

When to book early

You need to book early to get the best fares on domestic flights to popular destinations during peak travel periods, flights during the holidays and on international flights, Klee says.

Flights to popular destinations. If you want to fly anywhere warm, you need to book sooner rather than later because flights will sell out, Klee says. For example, CheapAir.com found that the best time to buy tickets to Florida cities such as Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and Pensacola – as well as some cities in Arizona and California – is 75 days in advance. For Las Vegas, it’s 81 days in advance. And to get the best fares on flights to Hawaii, you need to book at least 87 days before departure – and even sooner if you plan to travel during Christmas, Klee says.

Flights during the holidays. Prices on flights around Thanksgiving and Christmas are notoriously high. So to nab fares when they’re at their lowest, CheapAir.com found that you need to book in June – five months in advance of Thanksgiving flights and six months in advance of Christmas flights. If you can’t make plans that far in advance, you can save by booking flights on the cheapest days to fly during the holidays, which are the holidays themselves, according to FareCompare.com .

International flights. For summer flights to Europe, you’ll get the lowest fares by booking 319 days in advance, according to CheapAir.com. However, you’ll save the most on trips to Europe by traveling during the fall or spring rather than in summer. A study by FareCompare.com found that prices on flights to Europe after May 16 rise 35% or more. Prices drop back to spring levels after August 23 and fall even more in late October, according to FareCompare.com. You’ll also pay a premium for flights to the Caribbean before April 24, according to FareCompare.com.

You also should book early if you’re traveling to a smaller city with limited service because flights will fill up quickly, Klee says. As the number of available seats dwindle, the fares rise.

More strategies to save

Monitor fares. Even though CheapAir.com found that there is a prime booking period for most flights, Klee says that fares are volatile. So the key to getting the best price for airline tickets is to check fares at least once a week, he says. This will help you spot price drops. When you see a deal, don’t hesitate to buy your tickets because the price can change again quickly, Klee says. Signing up to receive fare alerts from Airfarewatchdog.com. CheapAir.com or Kayak.com will help you know when the price drops on flights you want to take.

Be flexible. According to FareCompare.com, you pay more for convenience, such as non-stop flights or flights on certain days and during certain time frames. Sometimes you can save a lot by booking flights with connections, or flights that are early in the morning or late at night. Also, flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays tend to be cheaper, according to FareCompare.com. You can use a flexible search option on travel booking sites, such as the ones at Bing Travel or Kayak.com. to see which days have the best fares.

Check alternate airports. Most large cities have several airports nearby, and the difference in fares for flights into those various airports can be dramatic. Check prices on flights to all of the airports in or around the city you’re visiting. If you’re traveling to a midsize city with just one airport, look for cheaper flights to other nearby cities. If you were planning on renting a car anyway, driving an hour or so to get from the alternate airport to your final destination probably is worth it. If you weren’t going to rent a car but will need to if you fly into an alternate airport, make sure the cost of the car rental and flight don’t exceed the cost of flying directly to your destination.

Keep an eye on your fare after you buy because most airlines and online travel agencies will give you a rebate (usually in travel credits or vouchers) if your flight’s price drops below what you paid. You can sign up on Yapta.com to receive alerts if the price falls on a flight you’ve booked. Be aware, though, that some airlines can charge hefty fees for re-booking your flight to get a lower fare. It’s not worth it to make a change if the fee outweighs your rebate.

However, if you book a ticket through CheapAir.com, you can get a credit of up to $100 for future travel if the price of your ticket drops. You don’t have to re-book your flight (and possibly incur fees) to take advantage of the site’s Price Drop Payback credit.

The majority of our hotels are booked with instant confirmation. Instant Confirmation bookings are rooms that are immediately available to you via HotelTravel.com’s advanced XML technology. Your room is confirmed immediately after you have submitted your booking.

Are your hotel rates per room or per person?

All our rates are based on occupancy per room, for either 1 or 2 guests. Please make sure you enter the exact number of adults and children for each room, so rates shown will reflect your true booking requirements.

What do I need to know about child rates?

Many hotels define children from 2 to 12 years old and generally do not offer additional bedding or breakfast options. If your child requires additional bedding and/or breakfast options, please book them as an adult to ensure the correct room configuration. You will be notified of any additional costs resulting from individual hotel policies regarding children staying with parents and age range allowed. Infants are usually defined as under 2 years old and do not come under the same restrictions. Please let us know if you require a baby cot for your infant. Kindly be advised that hotels reserve the right to verify the legal age of children.

When do I need to pay for my reservation?

HotelTravel.com does not charge customers until your room has been confirmed. All charges will be noted in the confirmation email that you will receive immediately after your booking request has been confirmed.

How can I download an invoice or receipt for my hotel booking?

Once any customer has paid for their booking they can login to the HotelTravel.com ‘Members’ Area’ and then go to the ‘My Reservations’ tab. There they will see a ‘download invoice/receipt’ icon (see example below) to download a PDF file. If you would like to request a customised receipt for business travel or other reason please contact HotelTravel.com’s Customer Service Centre directly via online chat or by email.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel your booking, HotelTravel.com does not charge any cancellation fees. However, please bear in mind that your booking is subject to the policy of each individual hotel. It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the hotel’s cancellation policy before you proceed with the booking. You will find this policy adjacent to the rates, under the ‘Conditions & More Info’ link. Once you have booked your hotel, the hotel’s cancellation policy will also be included in your confirmation email.

Cheapest Day to Book Flights: Does Sunday or Tuesday Have Lowest

#buy flight tickets
#

Wait a second, now Sunday is the cheapest day to book airline tickets? Forgive us for being skeptical of this (and every previous) study naming one or another day of the week as the best for buying flights.

This week, the Airline Reporting Corporation (ARC) released a study analyzing roughly 130 million airline tickets booked in the U.S. from January 2013 to July 2014, with the hope of shedding some light on when prices are highest and lowest. Over the years, plenty of these kinds of studies have made the rounds, but the current report differs from the pack in a couple of key ways. It shows:

1) Flight prices are cheaper when booked further in advance. In the past, ARC data has indicated that the lowest domestic flight prices were for tickets purchased 42 days before departure, while other studies have advised travelers to book 49 days in advance for the cheapest fares. The new ARC study shows that, on average, booking 57 days out yields the best prices. What s more, researchers found that average ticket prices were fairly flat during the window of time 50 to 100 days before departure. In other words, the best bet is to book 50 to 100 days beforehand: Tickets purchased during that period were $85 cheaper than the overall average for all domestic flight prices ($495.55).

2) Weekends are cheaper booking days than weekdays. This is the truly surprising takeaway from the study. According to ARC data, the average price of a domestic flight purchased on a Sunday was $432, and it was slightly higher on Saturday, at $437. For a long time, the consensus advice was that the lowest prices were to be found on flights booked on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (when airlines tend to roll out new flight sales), yet the new study shows the average paid on Tuesday was $497.

The smartest travelers seem to be those who booked flights on a Sunday 50 to 100 days before departure: They paid $110 less for their tickets compared to the average.

High Fares, Record Profits

Why is it that Saturday and Sunday seemingly have replaced Tuesday and Wednesday as the cheapest days for booking? The current mentality of the airline industry which is less competitive and more profitable than it s been in years offers some explanation. As Scott McCartney of the Wall Street Journal noted regarding the shift to weekends: Airline executives come into work Monday looking to raise fares, not discount them with sales to fill seats.

Earlier this week, for instance, the country s largest domestic carriers hiked airfares. a move that would seem to be not only unnecessary but downright greedy considering that fuel prices are plummeting. Given strong demand for air travel and American travelers apparent willingness to pay increasingly high prices for flights, airline executives are no longer worried about filling planes with passengers. They ve moved on to worrying about surpassing their (already record high) profits, and they re raising fares at every opportunity, for the same reason they ve relentlessly been adding fees. Because they can.

In any event, the fact that airfares are rising would seem to give travelers even more reason to take notice of studies by the likes of ARC and adopt new booking routines, right? Well, maybe, maybe not. The problem with all of these studies is that they re generalized and are based on averages from the past. The takeaways they offer may, in fact, not help you save on money your specific flight needs in the future.

Take holiday travel, for instance, when passengers are truly most in need of money-saving advice because prices tend to be so high. In the quest for cheap Thanksgiving airfare. the guidelines mentioned above don t really apply. Several booking sites point to data indicating that the lowest prices for flights over Thanksgiving weekend are likely to be found two to four weeks before departure that is, unless you absolutely need to fly on the peak-peak days of the Wednesday before or the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Flights on those days should be purchased far in advance, ideally several months beforehand. In other words, booking a Thanksgiving weekend flight 50 to 100 days ahead of time is probably a bad strategy, no matter what day of the week you re searching for flights.

What s more, all when to buy advice is based on past performance, as a recent Quartz post on Thanksgiving travel advice painstakingly made clear.

The Trouble With Simple Advice

The WSJ s McCartney pointed out that airlines are more inclined lately to discount flights booked on weekends because that s when leisure travelers are likely to be casually noodling around online and may be enticed to make an impulsive flight purchase if the price is right. The vast majority of business travel, meanwhile, is booked on weekdays, and business travelers are less sensitive to pricing because the flights are deemed more essential. At the same time, however, airlines still do regularly introduce fresh flight sales on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to boost seat purchases on routes that aren t filling up.

What all of these strategies have in common is that the airlines are reacting to traveler behavior and are lowering or raising prices to maximize revenues. If and when travelers change their behavior again say, if a critical mass of business travelers suddenly starts booking flights on Sunday rather than Monday the airlines will tweak their pricing tactics accordingly. All of which is a roundabout way of pointing out that there are far too many complications for simple advice like book on Sunday or book on Tuesday to be valid across the board. (We re only talking domestic flights, mind you; booking advice for international flight is more complicated still.)

Probably the only solid time-tested guideline for finding inexpensive flights is this: Booking too early is generally bad, but booking too late is likely worse. The average domestic flight purchased 225 to 300 days before departure cost $500 to $550, per the ARC study, while the average for a ticket on the day of departure was around $650.

How do you find the sweet spot in the middle, when prices are lowest? It s complicated, dependent on a range of factors including the destination, season, and day of the week you re traveling; whether there s a convention or major event where you re going; and even larger forces like the state of the economy and yep, gas prices. Kayak and Hopper are among the flight search tools that use historical pricing data to try to predict whether fares on a given route will rise or fall, but again, past performance is no guarantee of future results especially not in recent years, when airline executives have regularly rejiggered their pricing tactics, generally sending fares up. up, and up.

Despite the dizzying amount of tech at traveler s fingertips, the question of when to book remains largely unanswerable. Yes, it s wise to hunt during that window 50 to 100 days in advance, and sure, try to remember to poke around for flights especially over the weekends. But be on the lookout on Tuesdays and Wednesday too, because that s when sales pop up. Consult historical pricing data and airfare price predicting tools, just don t expect to pay the same bargain-basement fare you got a decade or even one year ago. Pay attention to airfare sale-tracking services like airfarewatchdog. but bear in mind the best deals are often for fluky routes and days and may not work for your travel needs. Perhaps wisest of all, use an airfare tracking service like that of Yapta. which will alert you if and when a flight on your route and dates has reached your desired price threshold. Just try to be realistic with the kind of fare you can expect nowadays.

Here’s How to Get the Lowest Airfares Possible

By Emiser Largent

Getting the lowest airfares possible has become more complicated since the internet became mainstream. There are so many sites and so many different options that its hard to tell if you really got the best price.

Here are some tricks you can use to make sure you are paying the least amount of money possible:

Secret #1: Call the airline you want to fly on – many of the airlines will give you lower rates that you can get on sites such as Travelocity, Expedia, Hotwire, etc. Why? Because these sites are acting like travel agents and get some sort of fee from the airline for processing the reservation. The airlines simply pass some of the savings on to people who contact them directly. I have saved as much as 5-15% so its definitely worth making the phone call.

2. Check with the airline for special deals which may include discount packages where you get a rental car at below market rates. About a year ago, I called Northwest Airlines to get a ticket to Salt Lake City. I asked the customer service representative if they had any good deals. She told me they had a special going right now with Avis where I could get a free economy car for the weekend when I got a ticket directly from Northwest.

3. Sometimes, you can save big money by traveling to another airport and then flying round trip from there. Check the airfares from other airports within reasonable driving distance 3-4 hrs. Sure, its a hassle, but the rewards may be worth $50 an hour for each hour you drive. Don’t forget to include your gas costs when calculating how much money you will save.

4. You can very often save money When you get hotel, rental car and airfare from the same place at the same time. For these special combo deals, visit Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity and others. Hotels, rental car companies and airlines often make unused blocks or rooms, cars and tickets available at discount prices to maximize the use of their inventory.

5. Check out airline last minute getaways. Especially Northwest Airlines. They seem to have unbelievable deals to major destinations if you are a little flexible with your schedule.

6. Secret tip: Ask your ticket agent if there are any better rates or fares than the one you got. AAA, AARP, others negotiate special deals for their members. With a little persuasio skill you may get those discounts too, even though you’re not a member!

Hopefully these secrets will help you get the best rate you can for your next flight. If you are little flexible and check every option, you can save a bundle of money.

How to Find the Lowest Airfares #argentina #travel

#best price airfare

Things You’ll Need

Airfares

Look at your calender for your intended travel dates. Flexibility is the key to getting the lowest price on airfare. Choose dates that are in the middle of the week—Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday—for both your departure and arrival dates. If you need to travel on a holiday, book tickets for days before or after the holiday, instead of on the day of the holiday itself.

Check websites that offer cheap flights, such as Orbitz, Travelocity, Cheap Flights or Expedia. Some sites have a function that will ask you to check a box if your dates are flexible, or if you mind having stopovers. Check both of these boxes, because this may get you a cheaper ticket. You may need to catch an early morning or late night flight to get the best price. Some sites will offer you a better deal on airfare if you book hotel accommodations at the same time you book your flight.

Check airline websites directly, especially smaller carriers like Southwest or Jet Blue. Some smaller airlines don’t sell their tickets through other travel sites, like the big carriers do, so it pays to check the websites of airlines flying to your destination. All airlines have seat sales periodically, which are advertised on their websites.

Maintain airline frequent flyer miles with all the carriers on which you fly. Sometimes you can get special discounts or buy miles at a low rate, which can then be used toward the purchase of an airline ticket. This is a fantastic way to save big bucks.

Sometimes choosing smaller airports can save money. For example, if you are flying to Los Angeles, try the Burbank airport instead of the Los Angeles International Airport. Also, when traveling to Europe, flying into London can be cheaper than other European destinations. There are many small airlines that fly throughout Europe, so you’ll have a lot of options in terms of booking a cheap flight out of London to your main destination.

Start making your travel plans early. If you are going to a popular city during high season, start planning at least a couple of months in advance. Usually, the earlier you book your flight, the less expensive your tickets will be. One month early is better than two weeks before your departure date, but two weeks is better than the day before you want to travel.

How to Get the Lowest Price on Airfare, Even After You Buy

Wise Bread Picks

As much as being a full-time traveler might sound glamorous, I spend a lot (I mean it! A Lot ) of time researching the best way to get from A to B, and the cheapest way to book it. And as somebody who s always on the hunt for the best deal, I often get click paralysis when it comes to clicking on the big final ominous Purchase button, fearful that I ll find a way better deal as soon as I commit. (Yes, it has happened before).

Booking airfare in particular seems to be an area mired in confusion, changing rates, and endless schemes. From cookies being buried in your browser that raise the rates every time you perform the same search, to having to search at Tuesday at midnight to get the best rates, it seems that we have to contort ourselves into these awkward positions to get a decent price.

Wives tales and rumors abound about getting the best rates; the next thing you know we ll be told that we have to eat only spinach for two days and perform a search while standing on one foot and listening to classical music in order to get the lowest price on airfare. I mean, really.

Despite my little rant here, I recently found a few free sites that ease the pain of booking airfare and helped me get the lowest price. Not only were they instrumental in my finding the best rates for my recent booking of a trip from Toronto to Florida, but I got the peace of mind in knowing that if those rates go down, I ll get a refund.

Yapta

Did you know that some airlines will give you a refund if the price goes down even after you buy your ticket? Yapta knows.

Yapta specializes in tracking flight prices, both before and after you buy. It s a fairly user-friendly site with a standard search engine. You can track the price changes (and you register with only your email, first name, and a password), receiving emails with weekly summaries, as well as special alerts when prices go down. (My only beef with this widget is that it tracks only the specific flights you enter, so if your plans are flexible you have to enter many possible flights to track them individually.)

Yapta s big claim to fame is that they help you get a refund on the difference if your flight goes down in price after you buy. With an easy tracking system and even pre-populated forms to submit to the airlines, it s simple to track flights and to apply for a refund.

Be warned though, only a handful of airlines have formal refund policies if the price goes down after you buy a ticket, and oftentimes the price difference needs to be above a certain dollar amount (eg: $75 or $150). For long-haul flights though, I can see value in using Yapta to track prices. And although there s value in choosing an airline with a refund policy, it never hurts to approach an airline without one and to ask for a refund on a price difference. This applies to airlines and retailers alike; you ll never know if you don t ask .

FareCompare

As another airfare comparison search engine, FareCompare works almost the same way. I enjoyed reading their take on the best times to buy flights. and it has lots of gee-gogs that Yapta doesn t have. For example, you can use a map to see where you can go given your travel budget. or you can search flights for price-per-mile (for people wanting to get the most distance for their airline dollar great if you re on a frequent flyer mile run ).

Other than these great little search features and a useful collection of articles and tips on when to buy/where to fly etc, I found using FareCompare to be considerably less user-friendly than Yapta when it comes to the brass tacks of tracking flights. I could enter an email address to track flights, but I didn t seem to get tracking emails regularly, and navigating the flights I was tracking on the site itself was cryptic.

But as a well-rounded search engine and educational resource for booking flights, FareCompare stands its ground for me.

Kayak Explore

The one downfall of both Yapta and FareCompare is that in order to track flights, you need to know where you re going! KayakExplore has little to do with tracking airline prices, but may be a fun way to choose a destination. You enter your starting point, and can filter results by selecting maximum price points, countries/continents you d like to visit, flight times, stuff you d like to do, and even the weather you want (from Freezing to Hot , and even Ouch )!

Tips for Getting the Lowest Price on Airfare

Getting the lowest price on airfare is no small task, and something that can suck you into countless (fruitless) hours online. I speak from experience, as the queen of spinning my wheels yet getting nowhere. Click paralysis is my nemesis. Here are a few tips to help you book your next flight with confidence.

Act fast. If you get an alert that the price has dropped, jump on it. Price drops can last as little as a few hours, depending on how many seats they release at the lower price and how popular the route is.

Buy at least 7 days in advance. I ve been burned by this before; cheap last-minute flights are non-existent (or at least, not to be counted on). As soon as you get to less than a week from departure, the price skyrockets. My flight to Florida went up 25% overnight between eight days and seven days before departure. (Thank goodness I bought my ticket prior.)

Airline s don t refund with cash. If you can convince an airline to give you a refund on the price difference, don t expect cash. Instead, you ll receive a credit or voucher with that airline for future travel. Also, beware of processing fees, which not only detract from the refund amount, but are often paid out-of-pocket.

Stop searching after you book. Once you ve bought your ticket, do yourself a favor and stop searching. If you re like me, you researched and researched your options before you bought, and you re not likely to find something wildly cheaper afterwards. (And if you do, you ll only beat yourself up for finding it too late.) By tracking your flight prices with a tool like Yapta or FareCompare both before and after you buy, you can rest assured that you re likely getting the best prices available.

3 secrets to getting the lowest airfare online

With a few insider tricks you can get substantial savings on your airline tickets. (Photo: Thinkstock)

Summer is on the way, which means vacations are just around the corner. I’m betting that whatever adventure you have planned, it’s probably going to involve a flight to get there.

Despite the rigmarole with checking baggage, parking your car and going through security, flying is still faster and more convenient for long distances than any other type of transportation. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most expensive.

Still, with a few insider tricks you can get substantial savings on your airline tickets – even tickets you’ve already bought. That can free up spending money for your trip, or you can put it toward expenses after you get back from vacation.

Ready? Set? Save!

1. Know the best online places to look

If you’re just looking at prices on an airline’s site, you’re missing the bigger picture. You might save more flying a different date or with another airline entirely. Most airline sites don’t make it easy to search multiple dates at once – and none of them includes other airlines’ prices.

Widen your possibilities with a site like Matrix. You can search for tickets on multiple departure and arrival dates to see what day has the best deal. Or you can just see a calendar of the lowest fares around a certain date. Naturally, Matrix pulls from multiple airlines for easier comparison.

Before you buy, though, you should also fire up a site like Airfare Watchdog. This scours airline sites for deals and pulls them into one easy-to-find place. You might spot a deal you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

I do have one caution about buying the cheapest tickets, though. Many airlines have additional fees that don’t show in the price of a ticket. The cost of checking baggage is an often-overlooked example. You might find that more expensive tickets are actually less expensive when you’ve taken other fees into account.

2. Buy at the right time

I’m sure you’ve heard that the day of the week and time of day you buy tickets can make a difference. Well, you heard right.

Of course, you want to start looking eight weeks before the day you want to leave. That’s when airlines start dropping the prices.

Tuesday around noon is a good time to find deals as airlines try match deals other airlines posted Monday evening. Peter Greenberg at CBS News suggests 1 a.m. on Wednesday to snatch up deals that weren’t taken on Tuesday. If there aren’t many deals going on, researchers from Texas A M say weekends are the best time to book a leisure trip.

The time you travel can also make a difference. Aim for weekdays in the early mornings and evenings to get the cheapest prices.

That’s a lot of things to take into account. So instead, you can also head over to Kayak. When you run a search for tickets, you’ll see a Price Trend box in the left-hand column. It tells you whether to buy or wait and Kayak’s confidence level. If you want more information about how it made its decision, you can click the box with the lowercase “i”.

I do have to say though that while saving money is good, sometimes the savings just aren’t worth the extra agony. Flying at 2 a.m. No thanks. That’s why I’d check out the site Hipmunk to quickly find flights with the best balance of cost and convenience.

3. Keep watching the prices

Just because you got a low ticket price doesn’t mean it won’t go lower. The good news is many airlines will refund you the difference if the price drops a certain amount after you buy.

But who has time to look up ticket prices every day? That’s where Yapta can help. It keeps an eye on your tickets and alerts you when the price drops.

Yapta claims annual savings of $334 per user, which means you can put that money toward a better hotel, a few nice dinners or just put it back in your bank account for life after your trip.
