Advertisers are searching for a better deals at all times and in every country. The ultimate goal: cover all spaces and surfaces with advertising. But not just every type of advertising – nowadays they prefer digital extra-efficient applications. This is the topic we wanted to share with readers in May issue.

It all started with simpler options. Limitations on static advertising in cities lead advertisers to seek new ways and approaches. Here is a simple idea: it costs money to install a static billboard in any city, and afterwards you have to pay taxes. A billboard on a truck needs permission from traffic authorities – but no regular payments to city authorities are necessary. Thus, hundreds of trucks of all models and sizes drive around our cities with printed advertising slogans. Thus, the concept of the mobile billboard was born. There are dozens of names for these: autobillboard, autobanner, autoposter, brandmobile etc.

Examples of autoposters

Mobile advertising grows exponentially. Why is this market segment so attractive? Minimum expenses. You buy a used truck, mount advertising poster and count your profits! At least that’s how it works in Russia: The Federal Law “On Advertising” regulates stationary advertising while owners of brandmobiles are outside of anybody’s attention. They pay a one-time license fee to traffic authorities, then park their truck on a busy square or intersection.

Outside of Russia the concept of “Billboards on Wheels” turned into a well-known brand. Hundreds of trucks with billboards drive around many countries with the only purpose to be seen by motorists and pedestrians. An average US citizen in 2010 encountered about 1700 advertisements every day. Analysts predict that in 2011 this number will rise to 3000. But advertisers need not only to be seen but to be remembered.

Naturally, even mobile billboard are no longer visible among the multitude of outdoor advertising. Therefore, we make a logical leap to digital – and install LED screens instead of billboards on trucks. Well, such trucks are more expensive, but then digital advertising is so much better and efficient (by now, this is a well-known fact).

Initially, technological limitations required that LED screens are only very large in size. This required large heavy-duty trailers or trucks with specialized hydraulic lifting systems. The one advantage of having a large trailer along was that owners could house a well-equipped video studio inside. It was only natural that those trailer-mounted screens became a regular feature at short events, shows or concerts. We gladly refer our readers to an excellent article written by Louis Brill back in 2004 “Mobile screens: LED screens on the move ”.

As LED technology matured, relatively small screens with tight pitch became better in quality and displayed pictures with TV resolution. Various Chinese manufacturers flooded the Internet with proposals of truck-mounted screens of all shapes and sizes in an attempt to fill this market niche.

Gradually, this lead to a new concept of mobile LED signs which advertising companies started placing primarily on transport. We already wrote about one such company: Titan Outdoor that equipped a fleet of Chicago and New York busses with LED signs for outdoor advertising (see our article “Displays in digital transport advertising ”).

From public transport LED signs moved on to personal transport. These LED signs with running letters or simplified animation are still rare in our cities; however we have witnessed the “forest fire” effect on the market of LED applications more than once. From the moment some new idea surfaces to the moment it becomes a fad very little time passes. What we see now as a new idea will soon become a trend: some companies started to equip new cars with “autotext” LED line on the back window with a list of standard phrases like “Thank you”, “Happy Holiday” etc.

The idea to place LED screens on trailers transformed together with the technology. Screens became thinner, lighter – and naturally people no longer needed heavy-duty machinery. Manufacturers offered options of light weight LED screens for private parties and small outings. The trailer carried simple hydraulic lifts and electrical generator.

Though the number of mobile LED screen options continues to multiply, the topic turned out to be quite difficult, possibly due to legal limitations on dynamic mobile advertising in traffic conditions. Apparently, the number of offers for renting LED mobile screen trucks significantly exceeds existing requirements. Therefore, the market does not grow. Which is a pity!

Mobile Phone Distributors – What You Need To Know!

Mobile phone distributors are a critical part of a prepaid wireless provider’s success! Are you interested in becoming a cell phone distributor? Here you’ll learn about what it takes to be a wireless master agent, how it works, the technology involved, and more! The fact is that the world of mobile phone distributors is fascinating, and can be the life blood of many wireless carriers.

What are cell phone distributors?
First, let’s define what exactly a distributor is and does. Different people will have different definitions and describe various scopes of responsibility, however, generally speaking the following points are very consistent. Having worked directly with prepaid wireless distributors for many years, I feel comfortable that the following information will help you get jump-started on becoming knowledgeable!

  • Distributors are often referred to as master agents. This is because they are at the top of the so-called distribution food chain. What that means is that while a distributor or master agent may sometimes sell phones and airtime directly to customers, they typically mostly sell wholesale to dealers.
  • In turn, dealers have their own stores, but also sell wholesale to smaller stores. Sometimes there is even a sub-dealer level between the dealer and the store level.
  • A cell phone distributor will buy phones and airtime discounted directly from prepaid wireless carriers. They will then mark up the price and sell it down to the next level.
  • Mobile phone distributors can have relationships with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of stores beneath them. The layers under them are often referred to as their sub-distribution. Depending on the size, reputation, and policies of a prepaid wireless carrier, some wireless distributors won’t be able to work directly with a prepaid carrier. In other words, as a wireless distributor, you could have a direct relationship with a prepaid carrier, or you may have to work as a sub-distributor under another larger master agent who is working directly with the carrier.

What’s the best level?
This can become a very personal decision. Are you the type of person who wants to run a large distribution network, and deal with the operations, collections, and warehousing that comes along with that? Or are you the type of person who enjoys working day to day directly with the customer? The answer will likely be a combination of what you enjoy, as well as what are your strengths and capabilities.

There’s no doubt about it that the higher you are on the mobile phone distributor food chain, the more money you’ll make, and the faster you’ll make that money. The simple reason is because once you have a network of sub-distributors and stores, you’ll be able to sell hundreds, or even thousands of phones in one deal, versus the bottom of the chain, where you’ll be selling one phone at a time to the customer, which practically speaking, will simply take more time. But for that apparent ease, you’ll have more overall risk.

Consider if you were to buy 10,000 phones from a prepaid carrier. If you don’t have the operations in place to receive and ship out those phones in an efficient manner, it could take you some time before you get the products in the hands of those who will actually be selling them. And that doesn’t include the cost of paying for the phone (or topup) inventory, and the cost to store it. Many prepaid carriers require that distributors prepay for inventory. Some will give you payment terms (ex. net 10 days or 30 days), however, that is becoming less common these days. Even with payment terms, you’ll still need to get the product out, and get paid in time to pay the carrier for the inventory if you want to minimize your cash flow outlay to support your inventory.

As a side note, I’ve seen more than a few mobile phone distributors selling millions upon millions of dollars of phones and airline who have been extremely cash-strapped, and on the brink of bankruptcy! One operational issue, or trouble collecting money from your sub-distribution, and you’re toast! But don’t let that scare you off. Those issues really come down to poor management, and perhaps greed, trying to grow their business too quickly. If you’re wise, you should be able to profitably (and safely!) build your business without being on the edge of financial disaster.

What do you need to become a wireless distributor?

  • Relationships – You’ll need to have relationships with sub-dealers and/or stores. In my opinion this is the most difficult part. Building relationships with other dealers or stores is not easy. It takes a certain kind of person to seek out such opportunities and to sell your services. Due to the amazing potential to make a lot of money in the prepaid wireless distribution business, competition is fierce! You can target a specific neighborhood, type of mom and pop store, small convenience store, etc. Think about where people might want to buy a phone or topup their prepaid wireless account. Also consider what unique value you can add. Do you have special knowledge, insight, or existing relationships with a specific type of community? This should be considered a critical success factor, and will largely determine whether you should be a master cell phone distributor at the top of the chain, a smaller one, or somewhere in the middle. There’s really no “wrong” place to be. Wherever you fit in, and can apply your passion, you’ll have a chance to succeed!
  • Access to Technology – Depending on where you are on the food chain, you’ll need to have technology to process airtime sales. Usually the master cell phone distributor will provide access to technology to partners below them, so lets assume you’re at the top for the moment. You’ll need to partner with a Technology Service Provider (TSP). TSPs also have relationships with prepaid wireless carriers. The larger ones will have direct relationships, while the smaller ones will have indirect relationships. The closer they are to being direct, the more money you’ll likely be able to make (due to higher available margins). There are a number of technologies currently available, and depending on the dealers/stores that are selling your prepaid products, you may need one or all of these:
    • POS Terminals – These are Point Of Sale Terminals that typically look like credit card terminals. They can be used to sell electronic PINs (ePINs) or to perform PIN-less Real Time Replenishment (RTR) transactions.
    • Web Terminals – These are secure websites that provide the same products as do POS terminals, but can be accessed via the Internet, without the need for special hardware or equipment. Internet access, however, IS required.
    • Hot Cards – This product has been phased out of the market. These require minimal or no technology, and can often be purchased directly from the carrier or master distributors. The operational and fraud risks around this product lead carriers to get rid of it; I keep it here as a historical reference, and you may encounter people who talk about it even to this day.

To read about these technologies in detail, visit the Point Of Sale Technology page. As a cell phone distributor you’ll need to get a very good understanding of these replenishment technologies so you can sell your services to dealers and/or stores. You may only need one of them or all of them. Remember that you need to keep in mind the needs of YOUR customers (dealers and/or stores), as well as what the end users (wireless customers) need and prefer. Believe it or not, these are not always the same things!
Special Note: Depending on how large you are, as well as your relationship with your TSP(s) and sub-distribution, you may be able to get these technologies from free, you may have to buy them outright (ex. terminals), or you may be able to lease them. Depending on where your business lies in the food chain, you may be able to pass any costs down to your sub-distribution.

  • Money – You’ll need to either have cash on hand, or access to money from banks or investors. You’ll need this money to pay for technology, warehousing, staff, and of course, prepaid phones and prepaid airtime. Although people tend to worry the most about getting money, I put it last because it really is the easiest part of the equation! If you have good relationships and access to technology, you’re well on your way to building a successful cell phone distributor business, and finding the money will be the easiest part!

    How the 5 biggest online travel agencies are expanding beyond mobile bookings

    The next generation of mobile innovation for online travel agencies is moving away from transactions to influencing all parts of the travel experience, including loyalty programs, personalized messages and real-world sales.

    Mobile Marketer looked at the mobile offerings from five online travel brands: Expedia, Travelocity, Kayak, Orbitz and Priceline. Although streamlining the mobile commerce experience is still a big priority for many, brands are also looking at how to leverage other mediums to gain market share.

    “We re actively thinking about ways to use mobile devices in the future of hotel travel,” said John Caine, chief product officer at Priceline, Norwalk, CT.

    “Can a phone unlock a door?” he said. “Do you need a concierge? One of the most exciting things about our space is the rapid pace of technical innovation. Every new technology brings an opportunity to innovate.”

    Here is a look at how all five brands are taking their mobile strategies to the next level, in alphabetical order.

    Similar to Starbucks and Sephora, Expedia is playing up content instead of commerce in its newest application revamp.

    Earlier this month, Expedia rolled out a new feature called Media Lounge within its app that recommends other travel-themed apps. Media Lounge is aimed at increasing app retention with more than aggressive mobile-only offers, which is a common tactic for most online travel marketers (see story ).

    The brand s iPhone and Android app is also set up so that consumers can view and share itineraries and opt-in for notifications specific to a trip, such as gate changes or delays.

    Moreover, Expedia has pulled its Expedia Rewards loyalty program into the app so that travelers can redeem points for making mobile bookings.

    Expedia s mobile Web site is more geared towards spurring quick transactions, but the site does include the itinerary features. There is also a mobile Web feature called Scratchpad that syncs up cross-screen searches so that consumers can save hotels and flights that can then be accessed on any device.

    Expedia is among a growing group of online travel brands that are leveraging Big Data to rethink the mobile and tablet traveling experiences. For instance, the company analyzes booking patterns to match travelers up to the best hotels and flights (see story ).

    Priceline acquired Kayak at the end of 2013 for $1.8 billion, which could reflect other consolidations to come as mobile becomes a bigger focus in the online travel space.

    Kayak continues to operate as an independent company, with iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Kindle Fire apps as well as a mobile site.

    Similar to Expedia, Kayak also offers additional app features including flight trackers and a tool to manage itineraries.

    However, Kayak s app also pulls in some other interesting information into the app, such as baggage fees, weather and images of destinations. The paid version also includes maps of airport terminals.

    Kayak’s mobile app

    Kayak s mobile site is a streamlined version of the app, with the features primarily tailored towards consumers looking for flight, hotel or car information.

    We see heavy usage at home, suggesting mobile devices are replacing desktops and laptops roles in booking and planning travel, said Giorgos Zacharia, chief technology officer at Kayak, Stamford, CT.

    We re also seeing travelers use mobile devices more for last-minute bookings, one-way flights, short-haul flights and same-day hotel bookings, he said.

    With mobile becoming the primary way that some online travel agencies generate last-minute sales, it seems that many brands in this vertical are pouring significantly larger amounts of money into apps versus mobile sites as a way to bolster loyalty and retention.

    Kayak also recently launched a tablet Web site for a cleaner and more streamlined experience.

    Orbitz is aiming to differentiate its mobile services with a loyalty program that went into place last year. The Orbitz Rewards program places a bigger emphasis on mobile bookings than desktop by awarding consumers with additional points for booking from a smartphone or tablet.

    Additionally, members can view hotels in search results with their points already applied (see story ).

    When the program launched, a feature called Zap that Bag let consumers earn $25 in bonus points for sending in a mobile photo of a checked bag receipt.

    The Orbitz mobile app

    Similar to Expedia, Orbitz is also testing a set of tools that harnesses big data to improve mobile bookings. This set of tools includes heat maps and historical data.

    Orbitz has also put a team together that specifically looks at the mobile journey of travelers. This group is responsible for developing some of the non-commerce parts of travel, such as itinerary lookup, updates and alerts.

    We re looking at other opportunities to engage with consumers in-trip, starting with ignition around the actual flight experience, said Chris Brown, group vice president of mobile at Orbitz, Chicago.

    Priceline is betting more on connected devices and real-world transactions than other brands when it comes to differentiating its mobile strategy.

    Most recently, Priceline rolled out a partnership with Routehappy scores that pulls together different pieces of personal criteria to help consumers find the best flight (see story ).

    “In our quest to go where the customers are, we re heading into some pretty interesting new territory, including priceline.com s recently-announced debut on the GM in-dash console,” Mr. Caine said. “What s next? The wristwatch? The TV?”

    Brett Keller, chief marketing officer at Priceline, Norwalk, CT, also sees a bigger opportunity for Priceline to influence real-world transactions, including on-site transactions at hotel check-ins (see story ).

    Priceline launched an in-car app with General Motors Chevrolet earlier this year. The app relies on voice recognition to walk consumers through the process of booking a hotel or flight (see story ).

    As marketers increasingly look to move towards more connected digital experiences, mobile plays a crucial role in how marketers will connect the real world to digital.

    Travelocity s mobile app and site are still largely focused on transactions, but also includes a few of the same features that the online travel agents do, such as travel planning and management.

    Additionally, the app includes a built-in camera that recognizes a credit card to speed up the transaction process and mobile-only deals.

    Travelocity has also worked with responsive design quite a bit.

    In fact, the online travel agency claims that the bulk of mobile conversions have switched from iOS to Android as a result of going responsive (see story ).

    How to Add a Device to Google Play Store

    When you add a device to Google Play, you can access your previous app, movie, music, book and other purchases on the new device. You can quickly add Android devices by signing in with the same Google account. If you have an Amazon Fire tablet, you can use some workarounds to load the Play Store and access all Android apps. It is not possible to add iOS (iPhone, iPad) or Windows devices to Google Play.

    Steps Edit

    Method One of Two:
    Adding an Android Device Edit

    Tap the Settings app on the second device. You can use your same Google account on multiple devices, allowing all of them to access your Google Play Store purchases.

    • You can find the Settings app in your app drawer.

    Tap “Accounts. This will display all of the accounts that are currently associated with the Android device.

    Tap “Add Account. You’ll see a list of possible accounts to add.

    Tap the “Google” option. This will allow you to add a Google account to the device.

    Sign in with the same Google account. Enter the account information for the Google account you want to link the device to. You can use the same Google account for multiple Android devices.

    Open the Google Play Store. If there are multiple Google accounts on the device, you may be prompted to select the one you want to use.

    Tap the Menu (☰) button in the upper-left corner. This will display the Play Store menu and the active Google account in the upper-left corner.

    Verify that your newly-added account is visible. You should see the account you just added in the upper-left corner of the settings menu. Tap the account that’s there and select your new account if the wrong account is active.

    Access your Google Play Purchases. You’ll be able to see all of the app purchases associated with your account by tapping “My apps games” from the settings menu. You can also tap the different media categories and then select “My media ” to view your purchases.

    Finding cheaper airline tickets today can mean scrutinizing several different online travel services along with the official carrier websites. Some of these websites allow potential customers to flag selected flights whenever deeper discounts become available. Other services such as Priceline may allow customers to bid for lower price tickets, but they can also require immediate purchase of those tickets or a much more flexible schedule. Cheaper tickets can be found through online services, but be prepared for unpopular departure times and long layovers in airline hubs.

    Another source for cheap airline tickets is a travel agency. Many times a professional travel agent can negotiate a package deal which lowers the price of the tickets as long as a specific hotel or car rental is booked. This type of discount would most likely be connected to popular tourist destinations such as Orlando or Las Vegas. It might not apply to those traveling to a family reunion in Des Moines, Iowa, but it never hurts to ask the travel agent for any possible package deal.

    Some people find cheaper airline tickets by thinking outside their comfort zone. The closest airport does not necessarily offer the lowest fares. If you are willing to drive to a different airport, the savings could be substantial.

    The same holds true for the destination city as well. A flight from a regional airport in Huntsville, Alabama to another regional airport in Akron, Ohio might be more expensive than a flight from Birmingham to Cleveland. The reverse may also be true in some cases a regional flight may be cheaper than flying out of a major airport.

Instead of booking a direct flight to one of these hub cities, a savvy passenger can book a less expensive trip with a planned stopover in a hub city. A direct flight to Dallas, for example, might be relatively expensive, but some American Airlines flights with connections in Dallas are often cheaper, since Dallas is a hub for American Airlines. The passenger simply deplanes in Dallas and does not board the connecting flight.

    For those who prefer to remain above board, there is also the option of negotiating directly with the airlines for special discounts. Military personnel or students may qualify for substantial discounts, for example. Government employees may also be eligible for discounted airline tickets.

    Sometimes a major airline uses discounts to encourage the use of its low-price commuter service. Occasionally airlines compete for business through ‘fare wars’, which may lower the price of some airline tickets by 40% or more. These savings are notoriously temporary, so it pays to book these flights as quickly as possible.

    HYDERABAD: Shakeel Jabbar, owner of Jabbar Travels, was granted bail on Tuesday after completing the court formalities. Shakeel was released from the sub jail at Nagarkurnool on Tuesday after he furnished two sureties of local residents attested by the tehsildar.

    However, the bus driver Feroze, continues to be in the jail as he was able to produce only one local surety. According to prison sources, only after he produces two sureties before the Kallapur magistrate with all the required formalities can he be released on bail.

    It may be mentioned that the Volvo bus operated by Jabbar Travels from Bangalore to Hyderabad met with a fire accident on October 30. Forty five passengers were charred to death when the bus driven by Feroze hit against a culvert and burst into flames. The police arrested the bus driver and Shakeel Jabbar, one of the owners of Jabbar Travels, at Kothakota in Mahbubnagar.

    The helper of the bus Fayaz was said to be in the hospital as he suffered some burns.

    Gartner Says Demand for Enterprise Mobile Apps Will Outstrip Available Development Capacity Five to One

    Latest Enterprise Application Trends Will Be Addressed at Gartner’s Application Architecture, Development and Infrastructure Summit in Sydney, 20-21 July 2015

    By the end of 2017, market demand for mobile app development services will grow at least five times faster than internal IT organizations’ capacity to deliver them, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner forecasts mobile phone sales will reach 2.1 billion units by 2019, which will fuel demand for apps in the enterprise that meet the high performance and usability of consumer apps.

    Speaking ahead of the Gartner Application Architecture, Development Integration Summit in Sydney on 20-21 July, Gartner principal research analyst Adrian Leow said enterprises find it a challenge to rapidly develop, deploy and maintain mobile apps to meet increasing demand, as it is exceedingly difficult and costly to hire developers with good mobile skills.

    “Organizations increasingly find it difficult to be proactive against competitive pressures, which is resulting in their mobile apps becoming tactical, rather than strategic,” said Mr. Leow. “We’re seeing demand for mobile apps outstrip available development capacity, making quick creation of apps even more challenging. Mobile strategists must use tools and techniques that match the increase in mobile app needs within their organizations.”

    According to Gartner, employees in today’s digital workplace use an average of three different devices in their daily routine, which will increase to five or six devices as technologies such as wearable devices and the Internet of Things (IoT) eventually become mainstream. Many of these employees are given the autonomy to choose the devices, apps and even the processes with which to complete a task. This is placing an increasing amount of pressure on IT to develop a larger variety of mobile apps in shorter time frames.

    Despite this, a Gartner survey on mobile app development conducted in 2014 found that the majority of organizations have developed and released fewer than 10 apps, with a significant number of respondents not having released any mobile apps at all.

    “This is an indication of the nascent state of mobility in most organizations, with many organizations questioning how to start app development in terms of tools, vendors, architectures or platforms, let alone being able to scale up to releasing 100 apps or more,” said Mr. Leow.

    According to Gartner, there are four best practices that organizations can consider to successfully overcome app development challenges:

    Mobile development teams are overstretched and have difficulty effectively delivering the growing number of mobile apps in their queues. The result is apps being built on a first-come, first-served basis, with the line of business making the most noise having its needs met first. This lack of value-driven prioritization leads to inefficient use of IT resources and a degradation in the quality of apps delivered. According to Gartner analysts, mobile development teams need to formulate a process of mobile app prioritization that involves understanding the needs of business stakeholders. This will be a key factor in defining common criteria for evaluating mobile app projects.

    2) Adopt a bimodal IT approach

    Integration is often the largest part of the effort of delivering an enterprise mobile app, with many app development teams underestimating the time and resources required for integration during the planning stage of the traditional waterfall methodology they are following. Gartner believes organizations need to replace this traditional IT development approach with a bimodal strategic approach that supports innovation and agility to deliver apps more efficiently and quickly. Bimodal approaches consist of two models: Mode 1 drives the creation of stable infrastructure and APIs to allow apps to retrieve and deliver data to back-end systems without impacting those enterprise applications, while Mode 2 uses high-productivity, agile approaches to quickly deliver front-end app features required by the business.

    3) Use rapid mobile app development (RMAD) tools

    Using development tools that can produce apps more rapidly is crucial for enterprises to help bridge the gap between mobile app demand and supply. Significant innovation is driving this market and replacing traditional coding approaches, such as native development tools, with more effective RMAD tools. There are many approaches to RMAD, including drag-and-drop codeless tools, code generation and orchestration, model-driven development, virtualization, forms construction, and others. These approaches are allowing those with no programming skills or coding ability, such as people in business roles, to rapidly assemble mobile app prototypes and continuously iterate on these designs.

    4) Adopt a mixed-sourcing approach

    Organizations want to have full control over their mobile app development initiatives, however, maintaining a pure in-house development environment is difficult to achieve given mobile is a relatively new competency to many developers. It entails many complexities and specific activities, such as UX design and psychology or cellular coverage testing, which may be more efficiently handled by an outsourced third party experienced in mobile app development. Gartner believes organizations will improve their in-house mobile development skills over time, but currently only 26 percent of organizations are adopting an in-house-only development approach, while 55 percent are successfully delivering apps using mixed sourcing.

    PANAJI: Given the rising demand for direct flights to Goa, Bengaluru and Kochi, Oman Air is all set to increase the frequency of its flights from Muscat to Indian cities. The national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman will operate daily flights to Goa instead of the current six flights per week. Besides this, flights from Muscat to Bengaluru and Kochi will increase to twice a day.

    Oman Air will also operate 11 flights weekly to Lucknow and 10 flights per week to Jaipur as the airline scales its operations in India, a company official said. The increase in flights to Oman will come as a boon to the large Indian workforce present in the Gulf region while also spurring the flow of tourists between the two countries.

    “Since we first launched flights to India in the 1990s, demand for seats aboard Oman Air’s outstanding aircraft has been consistently high. We will now offer daily or double-daily flights to all 11 of our destinations in India,” said Oman Air CEO Paul Gregorowitsch. “Our new flights to Goa, Bengaluru, Kochi, Lucknow and Jaipur will offer even greater choice and convenience for both, leisure and business travellers. Therefore, this will not only support the growth of tourism in Oman and India, but will also help promote vital trading partnerships between the two countries.”

    The additional flights will offer a total of 5,131 more seats and will be operated using Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft, a company official said. With the increase in flights, Oman Air will have a total of 126 flights per week between Muscat and its destinations in India.

    The airline flies to 19 destinations in the Indian subcontinent. These include the core lands of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, out of which 11 destinations are in India. Oman Air began flights to Goa in March 2015 and has since increased frequencies from four flights per week to six.

    Calling all mobile users. text 85095 to reduce nuisance calls

    Mobile phone users can send a simple text message to opt out of unsolicited sales and marketing calls. The ‘text-to-register’ service enables mobile phone users to add their number to the UK’s official ‘do not call’ database by texting ‘TPS’ and their email address to 85095.

    It is illegal for organisations to make unsolicited sales and marketing calls to numbers registered with the TPS, unless they have a person’s consent to do so.

    Raising awareness of the TPS

    According to Ofcom research, only half (48%) of people familiar with the TPS are aware that mobile numbers can be registered, compared to almost nine in 10 (88%) for landline phone numbers.

    This helps explain why only 2.9 million mobile numbers (around 3%) are registered on the TPS database, compared with 18.5 million landline numbers (around 85%).

    By introducing the quick and easy text-to-register process, the TPS and Ofcom aim to raise awareness of the preference service among mobile users and drive registrations.

    How ‘text-to-register’ works

    To register, mobile customers simply text ‘TPS’, followed by their email address to the shortcode 85095. They will receive a text reply from the TPS confirming their number has been successfully added to its database.

    Registrants should notice a gradual reduction in unsolicited sales and marketing voice calls after a few days, although it can take up to 28 days for the service to become fully effective.

    A study commissioned by Ofcom and the Information Commissioner’s Office found people registered with the TPS saw a reduction in the monthly volume of live sales or marketing calls received of around a third (31%). Registering with the TPS, however, does not prevent spam text messages.

    When you register your mobile on the Telephone Preference Service, there is no charge for sending a text to the shortcode 85095 or for receiving the confirmation text.

    There is an alternative shortcode, 78070, but for this you will be charged at your standard network rate.

    A travel voucher is a form used by business travelers to keep track of their travel expenses. At the end of the trip or another convenient interval, the traveler turns in the voucher to a representative of the employer. This allows the employer to compensate the traveler for any out-of-pocket expenses. Another kind of travel voucher is provided by travel companies when a pre-purchased trip is not available, such as a canceled airline flight. The traveler can redeem the voucher for another trip at a later time.

    Aside from tourism, business is one of the most common reasons for people to travel. Unless they are directly involved in the transportation field, most companies will not make travel arrangements for employees. Instead, they allow the employee to take care of the details of the journey. Once the trip is done, the employee will turn in a travel voucher with an itemized list of all expenses. Some companies require employees to turn in applicable receipts along with the voucher.

    The travel voucher allows the representative in charge of compensation to ensure that the employee is only charging the company for valid business expenses. In most cases, these expenses can be deducted from the company’s annual tax bill. Government agencies provide similar vouchers for employees on official business. These are paid out of the agency’s operating budget. which is usually not subject to taxation. Otherwise, these travel vouchers function much the same way as those in the business world.

    The travel voucher is commonly used in the airline industry, and to a lesser extent, by other travel companies as well. There are many reasons why passengers may be prevented from taking flights they have already purchased. A flight may be canceled or delayed, or it may be overbooked, meaning there are more ticketed passengers than there are seats in the plane. These events are not the fault of the passengers and sometimes are not within the control of the airline. In these cases, the airline may offer a voucher for a later flight.

    In the case of an overbooked flight, the airline will sometimes ask for volunteers to take the later flight. If the next flight does not go out until the following day, the airline will often offer to compensate the passenger for an overnight stay in a nearby hotel, as well as providing a travel voucher. If a traveler has no pressing need to reach a destination immediately, this common procedure can actually work out to the passenger’s advantage.

    PRTG for iOS—Access Your PRTG Installation On the Go! # #prtg,

    This video is gonna carry some new features for the PRTG for iOS application from Paessler.

    The first thing you’ll see when you open up the application is the last view that you had when you have that application open. You can click on a group and then click on a group that is underneath that group in your PRTG installation. You can keep going until you find the host or the device that you want to look at in your PRTG installation and go to a specific sensor. The sensor overview tab will give you an idea of which sensors are green or other status.

    Once you click on a device you’ll be able to see all the sensors for the device. There you’ll be able to see the status as well of all the sensors whether they’re in error status or okay status or warning status.

    This gives you a good overview of how the health is of the actual device in PRTG. When you’re at the sensor overview page you can see the various statistics for the sensor as well as the graphs at the bottom. You can click on the graph on the bottom to actually make this also full screen.

    Some other features on the sensor page are the ability to favor a sensor or to change the priority of it. If your favorite a sensor in this dialog box then when you click on the installation on the selling side you’ll be able to see that right away.

    Some other new features of the app are that you can acknowledge alarms with the acknowledge in text as well as pause sensors that maybe in a false state or being worked on. Something else that can be done through the PRTG for iOS app is looking at the maps that you have in your PRTG installation. You can view at the entire map with your iOS device directly with PRTG for iOS app. Here you can see a map of our monitoring environment here at Paessler.

    With the PRTG for iOS app you can also view reports that you have run before.

    Here we can look at the top most least use bandwidth sensors click on the report and you get directly in the iOS app. If you have a newer iOS device then the new notification feature is quite handy as well. With the new app you can set background and foreground notifications for errors warnings and unusuals and PRTG for iOS will notify you even if it runs the background whenever new alarms are detected.

    You are even able to decide which sensor types you want to have notifications for. If you have an issue with your PRTG installation itself you can also submit a support request directly to our team through the PRTG for iOS application.

    With PRTG for iOS you can even connect to different PRTG severs at the same time to keep track of multiple instances of PRTG. We think that all over Apple mobile device users are going to love this new app and hope that it along with your awesome PRTG software will keep your network running smoothly without any of those a.m. “hey the network crashed” phone calls.     About the App

    As the nation’s recreational boating safety coordinator, the Coast Guard works to minimize loss of life, personal injury, property damage, and environmental harm. The Coast Guard Mobile App supports these missions by providing the essential services and information most commonly requested by boaters.

    Features of the app include: state boating information; a safety equipment checklist; free boating safety check requests; navigation rules; float plans; and calling features to report pollution or suspicious activity. When location services are enabled, users can receive the latest weather reports from the closest National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather buoys as well as report the location of a hazard on the water.

    The app also features an Emergency Assistance button which, with locations services enabled, will call the closest Coast Guard command center.

    The Boating Safety Mobile app was not designed to replace a boater’s marine VHF radio, which the Coast Guard strongly recommends all boaters have aboard their vessels. The app was mainly designed to provide additional boating safety resources for mobile device users.

    The app is self-contained, so personal information is stored on the phone and is not sent to the Coast Guard unless the user chooses to send it. The Coast Guard does not track a user’s location, and the app does not track a user’s location unless the app is being used.
