    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find online courses or view the online course listings?

Look up the course section on SeaNet (no password is required). Online courses are designated ONLINE in the Instructional Method field. SOME courses listed as online will still require face to face meetings. Be sure to read the notes about the course and contact instructors for details.

How do I access my online course?

Online course information will be posted to Blackboard by your instructor. *Note: courses will normally not be available before the first day of classes

Will my online course have class meetings?

Online courses typically have no on-campus meetings, and may be taken from remote locations. These courses are identified in the Instructional Method field of SeaNet as Internet or web-based .

Fully online courses may have a synchronous component which requires students to be online or meet in a virtual classroom at specified dates and times. Contact instructors for more detail regarding each course

Are there due dates in online classes?

Absolutely. Online classes are not self-paced; your professor will have a schedule of assignment due dates.

Is there anything I should do to get ready before my course begins?
    • First of all, you should check your UNCW email account frequently, and keep your inbox clear. If you are a new or visiting student and don’t have or know about your UNCW email account, contact the TAC immediately. Remember that your UNCW email account is the only way your professor has of contacting you.
    • Next, go to the Technical Requirements link to make sure you have the right hardware and software. You will have an easier time in your online course if you have 24/7 high-speed internet access at home. It’s possible, but much less convenient, to do your course assignments from the computer labs on campus.
    • Buy your books and materials from the campus bookstore .
How can I contact my professor?

In your SeaNet schedule, there is an email icon [image emailicon.gif] next to your professor’s name. You can also check the UNCW directory for your professor’s email address and office telephone number.

How much time will I spend in an online class?

About the same as in a regular face-to-face class. This will vary according to the level of the class and your aptitude for the subject matter, but a good rule of thumb is to plan on about three times the credit hour value of the class: that is, around nine hours a week for a three-hour class.

While online courses give students much flexibility in scheduling, they do not take less time than conventional classes. In fact, more responsibility and effort is shifted to the student in the learning process and more involvement and commitment is required.

Is there anyone who should not take an online course?

If you require a classroom structure and regular face-to-face interaction with an instructor and other students, online courses are not for you. This does not make you an inferior person. But, the fact is that in an online course you must be able to pace yourself more carefully and be highly self-motivated. You will not have the professor holding you as part of a “captive” audience, hassling and harassing you to keep up, to remind you of deadlines, or to reinforce course content in the lecture. The issue is not so much your personal capabilities and talents as it is your determination to self-start and sustain involvement and your individual learning style. On-line instruction methods simply are not for every student.

The question is no longer IF the internet can transform learning in powerful way The Web-Based Education Commission

Audley Travel – Tours – North Wing New Mill – Witney,

    #audley travel

    Recommended Reviews

Our group of 13 used Audley to book a two week vacation to South Africa. Planning started out wonderfully, as our travel agent  was Ms. Hannah Gelder. Sadly, less than halfway through trip planning Hannah left us. For position in the UK. What a loss. I don t think it gets any better than Hannah Gelder. In came Kristin Jessup. It was apparent that Kristen was not enthused about taking over her group of 13. She never interacted with any of the group members, she s always seems slightly sarcastic, she constantly dropped balls, she failed to send timely invoices, etc. I could go on for days about the reckless experience we had with Ms.  Jessup. All I have to say is if you re thinking about using Audley for a trip to south Africa, and you see that Kristin Jessup is your agent- run for your life!

We were promised a conference call with our group of 13 just prior to our take off to south Africa. Kristen failed to do this. Her response was that the group was too large for her. I recall her making the statement pertaining to or large group of 13 several times. Clearly, she was in way over her head with our group. Less than a week to take off, and we still have our travel binders. They had to be FedEx to everyone s doorstep shortly before our departure. Unacceptable. Several people in our group complained to senior members of management. I even received a telephone call from a member of their senior management team stating, I m not going to show my hand, but I will be working here on the ground floor with members of my team to make up for the poor service that you have received . I mentioned to him that I was planning a  trip to Brazil and would have loved to use their services for consistency sake. I explained that unfortunately, due to the terrible experience I had with Kristin Jessup, I could not recommend Audley Travel. Once again, this senior-level manager ensured me that he would go to great lengths to win my loyalty back. I suppose he gave up and decided that our group of 13 just wasn t important to Audley Travel. They are very boastful, bragging continuously of past awards and high ratings, but fall short in following through with dis-satisfied customers; it is unfortunate that they take zero pride in retaining those who have patronized their services.

The planning phase with Audley Travel was a complete nightmare. However, when it came to the accommodations and level of service that we received from the locals at each of the lodging facilities in South Africa – it was a five-star experience. Our accommodations at More Quarters in Cape Town, South Africa – absolutely fabulous. Lodging at Notten s Bush Camp, Sabi Sands, Kruger, South Africa – out of this world! Service and splendor of the Peech Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa – exquisite.

We also had the most phenomenal tour guide in Cape Town, and lifetime of memories with our Safari Game Driver Thomas at Notten s Bush Camp in Kruger. I didn t particularly care for our guide in Johannesburg. He was a bit brash, and pompous at times.

The accommodations, tours, and service all arranged by Audley while in south Africa were worthy of five stars. However the service that we received by Kristin Jessup  was the worst that I ve ever experienced. The service we received by Kristin is worth less than one star. She did recommend two of her favorite restaurants and make reservations for both while we were in Cape Town. However, she failed to take note of our groups aggressive schedule and timetables. Had she been mindful of our schedule, she would not have double booked us. Because of this we missed out on an opportunity to dine at Potluck Club, a very popular restaurant that is difficult to get into. We were reminded several times by locals, and, our tour guide of how unfortunate it was that we would not be able to make our reservation. I m a foodie, so we were not happy campers.

I m rating Audley Travel three stars; one star for the terrible service, and five stars for the accommodations in South Africa.

*** My name is Will Arnzen and I am the owner operator of Arnzen Tile and Stone. I am a licened Tile Contractor specializing in tile and stone installation and restoration (stripping, cleaning, and resealing) of ceramic tile, porcelain tile floors, glass tile showers backsplashes, travertine tile flooring, limestone tile bathrooms showers, marble tile, granite tile, sandstone, saltillo pavers, slate tile, quarry tile, flagstone pavers, andother natural stone tiles and slabs working in San Diego County, Orange, and Riverside Counties.

I am a licensed tile contractor as well as a licensed general contractor allowing me to handle the complete demo and remodel for bathrooms, kitchens, and patios.

*** For the tile and stone installation process we make sure to evenly distribute all of the different shades colors of the the tiles to make for a clean natural flowing tile installation. Instead of big patches of light dark tiles which can detract from the overall appearance. We also know all of the correct sealers applications so that your tile stone not only looks great when it is installed, but also 10 and 20 years from now We do recommend calling us back to professionally deep clean reseal the tile every 2-3 years for interior applications and every 1-2 years for exterior installations.

*** For bathroom shower remodels and tile installations I like to mud float all of my shower walls using roofing paper to protect the studs from water damage, metal wire mesh for strength and reinforcement, and a sand, cement, and water mix for the actual wall float which is far stronger and more durable than hardiebacker or similar products. I use 1/8 inch grout joints to make for a cleaner looking job. I also can handle any fabrication and bullnosing of travertine, marble, granite, slate, quartzite, limestone tiles and slabs, and some porcelain.

*** A good tile job is no accident. It takes good communication between the homeowner and tile installer.

*** We also specialize in epoxy grout installation for industrial and commercial projects as well as for tile countertops and shower pans in the home.
Epoxy grout is more stain resistant and alot stronger than regular sanded grouts which helps to reduce cracked grout in the shower and future water and mold damage.

*** I also install cork underlayment for soundproofing condos, offices, and homes before the finish floor installation. As well as installing cork laminate flooring and conventional laminate flooring.

Transformation of rail travel in the north – News stories. #student

    #rail travel uk

Transformation of rail travel in the north

This news article was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Plans to give rail passengers in the north of England more seats, more services and a brand new fleet of modern trains were unveiled by the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin today (27 February 2015).

Documents published today set out how bidders for the new Northern and TransPennine franchises will be required to provide plans to:

    • replace outdated Pacer trains
    • introduce a brand new fleet of modern trains
    • tackle crowding
    • invest in stations
    • accommodate over 19,000 more commuters in Manchester during the morning peak
    • add over 200 new train services every day across both franchises
    • provide over one-third more capacity across both franchises
    • introduce free wi-fi

The publication of the invitations to tender is the first step in the transformation of train travel between the northern cities. It is also a significant step in the creation of a northern powerhouse for the UK economy.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said:

This is an historic moment for the north. Improving rail links in the region has been much anticipated. These old trains have been rattling across rails in the north for over 30 years; a constant source of complaint which have held the region back.

As part of my Northern Futures initiative I asked the people of the north what they wanted to build a stronger economy and transport was top of the list. So I fought hard to replace pacer trains as soon as possible.

Today’s plans include a new fleet of trains and improved services that will better connect our great northern towns and cities. Modernising rail in the north will encourage business, boost tourism and give commuters the journey they deserve; one that is fit for a 21st century metropolis.

    Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:

This is great news for passengers across the north, who will finally get a rail service that matches up to the booming economy in this region. That means more seats, more services and a brand new fleet of modern trains. Unlike the last Northern franchise in 2004, which included limited plans to invest in services or meet demand, this deal will maintain investment and grow to fit the needs of passengers for years to come.

Together with the £1 billion investment we are making to improve the region’s railways and our plans to link east and west through HS3, our railways are making the region an economic powerhouse.

Chair of Rail North Sir Richard Leese said:

We know from the consultation that passengers want to see a step-change in the quality of train vehicles, stations, more trains on Sundays and at off-peak times, and longer trains at busy peak times to ease overcrowding – and thanks to the hard work put in by Rail North, that’s exactly what they’re going to get.

But this is only the starting point; the invitations to tender specify the minimum required from the new franchisees, and Rail North will continue to push for greater enhancements in future years which will help deliver regional economic growth by helping people get to jobs faster, in comfort and affordably.

Full details of what the bidders for the 2 new franchises are required to deliver are set out in the invitations to tender for the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises. These set out the minimum level of improvements bidders hoping to secure the next franchises will need to include in their detailed proposals.

View the individual station benefits on our interactive map.

The key improvements the government wants the bidders for the Northern franchise to include are:

    • removal of the existing Pacer trains
    • ordering at least 120 new-build carriages
    • modernising every train operating on the Northern franchise
    • doubling the number of services on many routes on the Northern franchise
    • providing more services for commuters, during off-peak times and on Sundays
    • investing at least £30 million to improve stations along the Northern franchise route
    • creating a Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF ) to invest around £13.8 million to deliver benefits for passengers
    • introducing free wi-fi on all Northern trains by 2020 at the latest

The TransPeninne Express franchise provides longer distance intercity-type services, connecting the major cities of Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Hull, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as Manchester Airport.

The key improvements the government wants the bidders for the TransPeninne Express franchise to include are:

    • introducing extra capacity for passengers through more carriages, increased frequencies or more services
    • proving earlier and later services and more services on Sundays
    • creating a CCIF to invest around £2.8 million in passenger benefits
    • considering options for new services such as links between Liverpool and Scotland, Crewe to Manchester Airport and extending Newcastle services to Edinburgh
    • working with Network Rail to ensure the electrification of the cross-Pennine Manchester to Leeds route is delivered effectively
    • introducing free wi-fi on all TransPennine Express trains by 2020 at the latest

In August, the government announced which companies had been shortlisted in the competition to run the 2 franchises.

For the Northern franchise, these are:

    • Abellio Northern Ltd
    • Arriva Rail North Limited
    • Govia Northern Limited

For the TransPennine Express franchise these are

    • First TransPennine Express Limited
    • Keolis Go-Ahead Limited
    • Stagecoach TransPennine Express Trains Limited

A public consultation was launched in June, asking for the views of passengers and stakeholders on how the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises should be improved. Alongside the ITTs. the government is publishing a summary of the responses to its consultation .

Bidders for the TransPennine Express franchise have until 28 May 2015 to submit their bids. For Northern, the deadline is 26 June 2015.

These five carriers had the lowest rates for our two men’s cars out of the 15 providers we obtained quotes from. Based on our benchmark motorists, a year’s coverage with these insurers costs well below $1,000. For Grand Forks motorists who qualify, USAA had the best rates at $600 a year.

Cost of Insurance in North Dakota: by City

Beyond the 10 largest North Dakota cities featured above, here is a full list with the 20 others included in the study. They’re presented in ranked order, from cheapest to most expensive.

Best Auto Insurance Companies in North Dakota

To figure out the best auto insurance companies in North Dakota, we calculated a complaint index for the largest insurers in the state. We divided a company’s complaints by its premiums, and then compared that ratio with the state’s overall complaints to premium to determine the complaint index. The index measures how well companies are performing compared to its competitors, and takes into consideration the company market share. An index of 1 is average, so the lower the number, the better the company is doing compared to the other companies. That is, it receives fewer complaints than its competitors for the same dollar of business it writes.

    Methodology Coverage Requirements

We analyzed car insurance quotes in North Dakota for our two sample drivers: a 30-year-old single male and a 65 year old single male. They both own a 2010 Toyota Camry with the main purpose of commuting to work. They have good credit scores and drive 12,000 miles a year with excellent driving track record of no accidents or violations in the last five years. We compared rates for the Camry across 15 insurers in North Dakota, such as MetLife, American Family and Allied.

The costs are based on a basic liability protection policy, which is just higher than the North Dakota minimum coverage requirements. for a 2010 Toyota Camry. North Dakota state law requires minimum auto insurance of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $25,000 per accident for property damage.

    North Dakota Minimum Limits

    Bodily Injury (BI)

    $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident

    $50,000 per person / $100,000 per accident

    Property Damage (PD)

    $25,000 per accident

    $25,000 per accident

    Uninsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

    $50,000 per person / $100,000 per accident

The following terms will be used to relate to winter road conditions, to maintain consistency, and keep the traveling public well informed. The NDDOT will utilize these terms to inform the public about road conditions that warrant increased awareness.

Motorists can still travel but may encounter areas of challenging winter weather driving conditions on roadways. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination and be alert to conditions that may make travel difficult, change rapidly, or cause travel delays. A TRAVEL ALERT has the potential to change to a NO TRAVEL ADVISED if conditions deteriorate.

Motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may make it unsafe to travel. Snow plows may be pulled from the roads during severe conditions. Motorists should take NO TRAVEL ADVISED seriously as those motorists who choose to travel at their own risk may become stranded and emergency responders may not be able to reach them safely. A NO TRAVEL ADVISED has the potential to change to a ROAD CLOSED OR BLOCKED if conditions deteriorate.

Motorists are not allowed to travel on a closed road due to life threatening conditions. The road may be impassible or blocked. Motorists who drive past a road closure device may be fined up to $250.
