1983 by Ouyang Boat Works Whitby Ontario Canada Aloha 32 sailboat

The Aloha 32 is a quality, Canadian-built, sloop-rigged, coastal cruiser designed by Mark
Ellis (similar to his Niagara 35 design). She is an ideal bay and cruising boat for two,
although she can sleep up to five. She accelerates quickly in a breeze and handles like a
dream. A reliable 21 hp Westerbeke diesel. Fin keel and spade rudder she can be turned within her own length in tight marinas.

Starting forward is the workshop/sail locker and chain locker with a large 24 x 24 hatch for great ventilation and to conveniently egress. Port and Starboard hanging lockers. Main saloon for entertaining with port and starboard seating and a centerline drop leaf table. Good storage all around and port side seat pulls out to increase bunk size. There is a large over head hatch for ventilation and 6 total opening ports with bug screens. Moving aft, the large head is on starboard with overhead hatch. A designated pump for shower bypassing bilge. On port is a spacious galley for preparing sunset dinners. A deep SS sink and salt water pump to conserve fresh water for washing dishes. A 2 burner propane stove/oven. The icebox is large with a top sliding shelf and is well insulated. Very good counter space and good storage for long distance sailing. Next aft to port is a single pilot berth with battery bank below, plus storage. On starboard is a comfortable double berth, long enough to accommodate 64 passengers. The engine compartment is centered below the cockpit. The Aloha has standing headroom of 64.

Enigma has been lovingly maintained by her current owners. Her mast comes down yearly so all standing rigging is inspected annually. She had a complete bottom job in 2013 with new barrier coats and top coats. (no blisters) She is covered with custom frame work and tarps to protect her from the harsh New England Winters. Her top and sides are cleaned and polished with 2 coats of wax each Spring. Her bright work is in excellent condition. The current owners have enjoyed sailing her all around Long Island Sound, and the Islands.

Ontario shuts 14 Everest College campuses #ontario #everest #college

Ontario shuts 14 Everest College campuses

TORONTO Ontario is moving to shut down American-based Everest College, which operates 14 private career schools across the province, and offering help to students try to recover some of their tuition payments.

The superintendent of private career colleges suspended all Everest College campus activities, which government officials say will prevent it from declaring bankruptcy, at least in the short term.

The suspension will affect about 2,450 students and 450 staff at Everest College, which announced last summer that it was looking to sell off or close down all its campuses in Ontario.

Colleges and Universities Minister Reza Moridi says officials from his office will be at every Everest campus, including at night classes, to give students information about what they can do next.

Students will be offered help to find another career college they can transfer to and complete their education or apply for a refund from a $3 million fund set up for that purpose.

However, there are no guarantees anyone will get a full refund of their tuition fees.

Everest has 15 days to seek a hearing before Ontario s Licence Appeal Tribunal of the superintendent s decision.

The superintendent was no longer satisfied that Everest could be expected to be financially responsible in the operation of a private career college and in the offering of its vocational programs, the ministry said in a release.

One of the main priorities during this process is to ensure that students are provided with training completion options that will allow them to promptly complete their programs, with as little disruption as possible.

The Canadian Everest campuses are owned by Corinthian Colleges, a California-based company which owns 107 college campuses across North America and also offers degrees online.

Allegations of falsifying job placement data used in marketing claims to prospective students at one of the company s U.S. campuses triggered an investigation by the U.S. Education Department, which eventually led to a severe cash shortage at the company when federal funds were withheld.

As a result, Corinthian Colleges agreed to close 12 campuses in 11 states and place the rest of its campuses up for sale, including those in Canada.

Everest operated campuses across Ontario, in Barrie, Brampton, Hamilton, Kitchener, Mississauga, Newmarket, Ottawa, Toronto, Sudbury and Windsor.

Become a Paralegal – Diploma & Certificate Classes in Toronto, Ontario

Student Testimonials

(Melissa was in our Medical Office Assistant program, she was employed before completing the program!)

I love my job and find it very exciting. I ve met a lot of new people. For the first three days I was training in the Client Liaison s office just to see how the systems work. They were 8 hour days and today I am doing a 12 hour shift in the pre-admitting for emergency. It is all so exciting and everyone here is really impressed with all the medical knowledge that I have. I can only say that it s because of you and the courses I took at Academy of Learning. You gave me confidence in myself and it made me believe I can accomplish anything. I think any future students who take this course should know that, even though the work is very challenging and difficult, it really pays off in the end. Thanks for everything!

Industry Overview

As regulations and legislation evolve and the public s need for legal services and advice grows, the need for skilled paralegals is as high as ever. Employment prospects for paralegals are stable, regardless of the economic ups and downs outside of the law industry, which makes it a steady career option.

The Paralegal diploma program is accredited by the Law Society of Upper Canada and prepares graduates to apply to the Law Society of Upper Canada to become licensed paralegals. Paralegals are non-lawyers who provide legal services in specified areas of practice to the public for a fee. The type of work that a licensed paralegal can perform is limited by the Law Society and this program is restricted to those areas of law.

Paralegals are invaluable both as individuals and as part of the legal team. In just 49 weeks, graduates will be prepared to work in law offices, legal departments of any organization and/or run their own practice, and can find employment opportunities with law firms, government offices, private industry or as independent Paralegals.

With Law Society of Upper Canada accreditation in a field that offers a variety of workplace options and exciting personal challenges, it s no wonder the Paralegal diploma program is one of our most popular diploma options!

Duties Responsibilities

Paralegals use their skills and experience to handle a variety of legal responsibilities. Because of their wide understanding of the law, paralegals are invaluable members of a legal team. They often participate in the initial interviews between clients and their lawyers and collect crucial information related to a client s case. Paralegals have a number of diverse duties from drafting legal documents to doing research to assisting with legal transactions.

In Ontario, paralegals are regulated as officers of the court and licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada the only jurisdiction in the Western hemisphere to do so! Licensed paralegals in this province enjoy more independence, as they can independently practice in approved areas of the law. They can represent clients in provincial matters, immigration, landlord tenant disputes, labour law, small claims court and other criminal matters.

Early Childhood Education Programs at Ontario Colleges #early #childhood #education #programs

Early Childhood Education Programs at Ontario Colleges

What to expect from a career as an Early Childhood Educator

Teaching at any level is a rewarding career, but early childhood teachers have a special opportunity to help children in their earliest stages. Early childhood education programs at Ontario colleges teach students the skills they need to get children started on a successful journey through the education system.

If you have a keen interest in childhood development and are interested in early childhood education (ECE) as a career, here’s what you need to know. More

Early Childhood Education Courses

Early childhood education training is structured to teach both the theoretical and practical sides of early childhood development (children 12 and under).

You will learn about basic health, safety and behaviour as well as how to understand children’s environments and early learning mechanisms. You will also learn to plan early childhood education curriculums for a variety of levels, and will develop your writing and communication skills to work with children, parents, and members of the education and teaching system.

ECE programs have extensive field placement opportunities, placing students in preschools, child care programs, hospitals and kindergartens for real-world experience.

General Early Childhood Education Program Requirements

Many colleges offer this program at an entry level, meaning requirements include only an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, with a grade 12 English credit (additional academic requirements may be added by specific institutions).

Other Ontario colleges structure the course as a continued education program, requiring you to have completed an undergraduate degree. This program will often be accelerated to three semesters, rather than the traditional four-semester program.

Additional requirements to both programs could include health certificates and immunizations, Police Record Checks and admissions testing. Experience working with young children will be seen as a definite asset, and may be required by many institutions.

Early Childhood Education Jobs and Salaries

Early childhood education careers could lead into a number of positions, including (but not limited to):

  • Early childhood educator / education assistant
  • Home child-care provider
  • Child-care consulting
  • Camp counselors
  • Transition homes for abused women and children

Salaries for early childhood education professionals vary depending on the position, but generally start from $27,000 per year on the low end and $33,000 per year on the high end.

Every party has screwed the pooch when it comes to this topic, with the NDP handing a fumbled ball to two successive Conservative governments who bobbled it to the incoming Liberals. They’re all as bad as each other at promising to do something, then opening the box the day after the election and grimacing.

Our current system is a dog’s breakfast of road-blocked players each pointing fingers. The system is rife with often-fraudulent in-betweeners gorging on those sky-high rates like a mosquito landing on a corpulent, passed out drunk. Too many minor claims end up in drawn-out court disputes, with money that should be going to client care instead going to experts and consultants, who often only consult on ways to expertly bleed the system to their own advantage. It’s not that Ontarians are getting extraordinary medical attention and rehab compared to some of their other provincial counterparts; it’s that the money from those bloated rates is not making it to the consumer. For what we’re paying, we should be lying around eating peeled grapes.

Nobody really likes anyone else. Consumers scream at insurance companies, who actually have to have government approval for any rate hikes or changes to wordings or coverages. Provinces that have public insurance programs, like B.C. Saskatchewan, Manitoba and, partially, Quebec are held up as the answer to Ontario’s woes. But Ontarians actually have better coverage – when it makes it to the consumer from that private system, as it produces more competitive products. Public coverage is okay as long as you never get hurt, or at least not too badly. We simply need the private system to have the fraud reined in so that consumers can actually benefit from those products, instead of for-profit healthcare enterprises and lawyers who take a 40 per cent whack off of victim settlements.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) puts the latest available fraud estimate, from 2010, between $768 million and $1.56 billion. You pay; I pay; we all pay.

We too often look at the annual cost of insurance – roughly 1,500 bucks on average in Ontario – and compare it to tales of someone in Saskatchewan who pays $500. They are getting different coverage. This was actually highlighted, in a less than positive way, last summer when one of the cost-saving measures introduced in Ontario was to reduce your standard coverage in order to reduce rates. It’s like when they reduce the size of a package of pasta but charge you the same; they think you’ll be too dumb to notice.

Don’t be too dumb. Read your fine print and contact your provider, or better yet, a broker. Brokers are good. They have access to many different insurance companies and can answer all your questions and place you with the right provider for your needs.

So, if the government(s) do squat to help you, how can you help yourself? According to Anne Marie Thomas at InsuranceHotline.com, you have to be proactive.

“Read your renewal; too many people, over half, just let it ride even though they may not be getting competitive rates. A little homework can save you a lot of money,” she explains. Don’t wait for a promised-but-probably-not-coming reduction from a government. Shop your policy and find the savings yourself.

Maybe you’re a little nervous to call up a new place to ask about quotes. Maybe you have a ticket that you are fairly certain will evade a licence check with your current company but will see sunlight with a new one. Thomas says to do your own legwork. Their site – along with others you can find online – lets you input your information and pop up an estimate. It might be in the ballpark of what you’re paying now, but it might also save you a lot of money. You don’t offer up any contact info unless you wish to pursue the offer.

We need to keep pressure on governments to fix a broken system, but we also need to stop being complacent on a major expense in our own budgets. Pay attention to changes in standard coverages and shop your renewal to protect yourself, and your money.
