7 Reasons to Lease Your Next Used or New Phone System

7 Reasons to Lease Your Next Used or New Phone System

22 February 2007

7 Reasons to Lease Your Next Business Phone System, New Phone System or Used Phone System
By: Mark Allen

  • Conserves Capital: Leasing conserves valuable company working capital and preserves your bank credit lines.
  • Offers a Convenient Application: Provides Quicker Approval with Fewer Hassles.
  • Preserves Bank Credit Lines: Leasing lets you put your equipment to use immediately to generate revenues – with minimum budgetary impact.
  • Cost: Lease financing is generally more expensive than bank financing, but in most instances it’s more easily obtained.
  • Gives Flexible Payment Options: Leasing permits 100% financing with no down payment, so you get the equipment you need without a major cash outlay. With leasing, you can arrange long, flexible terms with low monthly payments.
  • Allows for Easy Upgrades and Add-Ons: What if your business is growing and you need to add phone equipment. In most instances, the leasing company will allow you to add this equipment to your existing lease
  • Lease payments are fixed, not adjustable: You don’t have to worry about floating interest

    Frequently asked questions:

Is leasing of new and/or a used phone systems appropriate? Any business at any stage of development leasing is always an alternative. For start-up businesses with no revenues, small ticket leases as in phone systems, those of $100,000 or less, are feasible on the personal credit of the founders or owners.

Is there a supply leasing funds for used phone systems and new phone systems? Abundant. Of the billions of dollars individual and institutional investors pour into the capital markets each month, a good hunk finds its way to leasing companies that use these funds to purchase equipment on behalf of small businesses. With more and more money flowing into the markets, leasing companies are flush with capital. As a result, they are eager to do business and respond to competition with lower monthly rates.

Can other costs be included in lease of business phone system? Leasing can also finance the soft costs often associated with equipment purchases, such as installation and training services.

How hard is it to obtain lease financing for a used phone system? Easy for leases of less than $100,000. An application for a small-ticket lease is generally no more complex than a credit card application. Leases for more than $100,000 require detailed financial information from the business, and the leasing company conducts a more thorough credit analysis than it would for a smaller transaction.

How do I find a leasing company for by new or used business phone system? Finding an equipment-leasing company is easy. Almost any phone system equipment a phone system installer could conceivably provide offers a lease option. What are the lease option terms I can expect for new phone systems and used phone systems? Usually the leases are set up in terms of 24, 36, 48 or 60 month terms.

What are my purchase options of this phone system at the end of the lease?

$1.00 Buy Out: At the end of the lease term, lessee may purchase the equipment for $1.00. (Most popular because then you can own the equipment at the end of the lease for $1.00. The monthly payment is only slightly higher then the other purchase options.)

10% Purchase Price: Customer may purchase the equipment at the end of lease for 10% of the original transaction cost.

Fair Market Value: This program gives you the most flexibility with upgrades to combat obsolescence. At the end of the lease term the lessee can continue to lease the equipment, return the equipment or buy it at its fair market value.

What is my down payment? The options are usually no down payment, one months lease, or first and last month’s lease payment.

In summary, conserve capital with monthly lease payments on your business phone system, installation and voice/network cabling. Though it’s not apparent at first glance, the company offering the lease financing for your used phones or new phones is not the same one that is selling the equipment. The company selling the equipment simply makes a direct referral to a leasing company with which it does business.

It’s a good idea to get a quote from the leasing firm referred by the company that wants to sell you the equipment. The quote should be competitive. After all, the company selling products wants to sell as many as possible, and it surely doesn’t win any points by referring a leasing company that gouges its customers. But it also pays to get another quote. Usually, the company selling the equipment works with more than one leasing company. Or ask a friend or a business associate for a referral.

  • Telephone Psychic Jobs #best #phone #psychic, #telephone #psychic #jobs

    Telephone Psychic Jobs

Psychic jobs are always available for good psychics who want to work from home. My insight for living happily as a professional psychic is to start with a good, reliable, large and established psychic company AND be independent too. I will explain why.

First you will need to be brutally honest with your self. Can you say YES when asking “am I psychic?” If you can’t, nor will your clients! Don’t go looking for telephone psychic jobs until you have a solid belief in your own psychic abilities. Many wanna-bees try psychic jobs, usually the psychic hotlines. They think that cold reading techniques or counseling skills will get them into this buoyant business but they don’t last long. Unfortunately the scammers give the rest off us a bad wrap while they crash and burn, but that’s life. So if you are not yet a confident professional, I suggest you spend some time with my lessons for those still wondering how to become psychic. Access my pages to develop psychic ability by clicking here. Then when you are ready to consider which telephone psychic jobs suit you, come back and check my updates.

Ok, so you are one of the real psychics and you want to know all about telephone psychic jobs, what options are best for you and how you go about getting into business. Great, here we go.

Psychic self employment is a great way of life. I, for one, loved my psychic work and the lifestyle it gave me. (now retired )

There are lots of options. You can offer psychic chat online if you don’t like talking on the phone. Online psychic chat is a busy arena; just look at all the psychic advisors on Kasamba for instance. The best way to consider if this avenue is for you is to try it out as a client first. That way you can see if you like it before you set up an expert advisor account for yourself .

It’s always good to develop a particular niche, being your own specialty. Here are few suggestions to spark the idea that you can work as a psychic advisor too. Perhaps you are great at analyzing dreams. Dream interpretation is very popular. I know first hand from the constant enquiry I get for dream interpretations on this website alone. Or are you a psychic medium, spiritualist medium, perhaps you are better at giving psychic tarot readings (for many a psychic reader tarot cards are an invaluable tool? How about doing palm reading over the internet, by getting your clients to email a photocopy of their palms? Can you offer numerology compatibility, horoscope compatability, reiki or some other form of psychic healing? Giving psychic past life regressions is another theme worth considering if that is your forte. Psychic predictions can be provided in many ways, just look through my A to Z list of psychic abilities and other methods of prophecy for more ideas. Whatever your talent you can find a way of incorporating it into psychic employment working from home.

Many people always have and always will look for insight for living from psychics they can trust. You build trust because being a real psychic you ‘get it right!’ When you build trust you develop a regular client base that supports you long term. Some clients will want to know how to end a relationship, others how to save a relationship. Often it’s nothing to do with relationships at all. You name it people want psychic advice about it.

Because of the wide and varied subject matter clients will want insight into I strongly recommend you put yourself through a counseling course as well as polish your psychic skills. Although portrayed as entertainment (mostly for legal reasons) many real people with very real issues seek help from trusted psychics. Extra communication and counseling skills will help make you the best psychic advisor you can be. Who knows? – You could go on to become one of the famous psychics like Edgar Cayce, James Van Praagh, Doris Stokes, Sylvia Brown psychic or John Holland. It’s possible when you can demonstrate John Edwards psychic skills as well as him. Or maybe you will have a TV program made about you like Allison DuBois.

But let’s not get carried away, you’re here to learn how to get yourself telephone psychic jobs.

First, find a company to work with that will form a financial foundation to live from. You want to join forces with one of the large and well established psychic companies. How do you do that? Simple, come OFFLINE and trot down to the local newsstand. Go through the UP MARKET magazines and look through the pages for full page or half page psychic adverts only. You want a company that advertises BIG TIME in the quality media. You also need to be looking only for companies advertising with Freecall or Freephone numbers. So that the client can call in without charge to talk to real live customer service operators.

Avoid, like the plague, any company ONLY advertising premium numbers. The telephone psychic jobs you see with these psychic hotlines is in dodgy territory. There is nothing wrong with premium numbers, it’s just that you want to check out telephone psychic jobs with reputable companies and the reputable firms all have easy access free-to-call-in numbers. They will also have premium numbers but that’s OK. When I worked full time with a big psychic company I had 90% of my clients coming through a free to call customer service operator but many regulars sometime prefered to call on my premium line extension if they just want a quick psychic question answered and they didn’t need the full ten or twenty minutes, the norm on a credit card line.

The dodgy psychic hotlines ONLY have premium numbers. They are very difficult to contact and if you take on their telephone psychic jobs you will find they will push you to stretch the calls past certain minimums or they withhold paying you. Don’t waste your time. If you are a good psychic, stick with good psychic companies. Call the customer service number and ask for an application to become one of their readers. They may put you on a waiting list if they have a full quota of readers. But that’s OK; apply to a few more telephone psychic jobs until you click in with the right one. You will be tested and appraised then taken on if all is well. You will in most cases be self employed and that means you handle your own taxes.

You will also be contracted to work with only the one company. That’s good ethical practice. Although I will show you how to set up a second and independent line to your psychic business, under no circumstances EVER bring a client of one company over to another or to yourself. It’s not ethical and most likely not allowed if you read the small print of the contract you will sign.

Once you have yourself established with a good company, you may want to set up a client base of your own too. Maybe you are already set up and you want that extra income stream now. Read on.

    More Telephone Psychic Jobs Advice

I have opened up my site to a team of good, independent psychics. See my Exceptionally Skillful Psychic Page. I provide complete instructions and facilities for genuine psychics to operate autonomously from your other company and have promotion from the website and/or your own high traffic website like this. (Yes – I can show you how to do that too ).

If you are already set up on LivePerson. or Kasamba I can help you with some extra exposure. Just write an article and post it on my Psychic Trumpet page. The psychic trumpet is the place to share your psychic wisdom and ideas. Be sure to let me know your LivePerson or Kasamba expert id tag for the link I will place to your profile there.

Mobile Phone Distributors, How to Become a Wireless Master Agent #mobile

Mobile Phone Distributors – What You Need To Know!

Mobile phone distributors are a critical part of a prepaid wireless provider’s success! Are you interested in becoming a cell phone distributor? Here you’ll learn about what it takes to be a wireless master agent, how it works, the technology involved, and more! The fact is that the world of mobile phone distributors is fascinating, and can be the life blood of many wireless carriers.

    What are cell phone distributors?
First, let’s define what exactly a distributor is and does. Different people will have different definitions and describe various scopes of responsibility, however, generally speaking the following points are very consistent. Having worked directly with prepaid wireless distributors for many years, I feel comfortable that the following information will help you get jump-started on becoming knowledgeable!

    • Distributors are often referred to as master agents. This is because they are at the top of the so-called distribution food chain. What that means is that while a distributor or master agent may sometimes sell phones and airtime directly to customers, they typically mostly sell wholesale to dealers.
    • In turn, dealers have their own stores, but also sell wholesale to smaller stores. Sometimes there is even a sub-dealer level between the dealer and the store level.
    • A cell phone distributor will buy phones and airtime discounted directly from prepaid wireless carriers. They will then mark up the price and sell it down to the next level.
    • Mobile phone distributors can have relationships with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of stores beneath them. The layers under them are often referred to as their sub-distribution. Depending on the size, reputation, and policies of a prepaid wireless carrier, some wireless distributors won’t be able to work directly with a prepaid carrier. In other words, as a wireless distributor, you could have a direct relationship with a prepaid carrier, or you may have to work as a sub-distributor under another larger master agent who is working directly with the carrier.

    What’s the best level?
This can become a very personal decision. Are you the type of person who wants to run a large distribution network, and deal with the operations, collections, and warehousing that comes along with that? Or are you the type of person who enjoys working day to day directly with the customer? The answer will likely be a combination of what you enjoy, as well as what are your strengths and capabilities.

There’s no doubt about it that the higher you are on the mobile phone distributor food chain, the more money you’ll make, and the faster you’ll make that money. The simple reason is because once you have a network of sub-distributors and stores, you’ll be able to sell hundreds, or even thousands of phones in one deal, versus the bottom of the chain, where you’ll be selling one phone at a time to the customer, which practically speaking, will simply take more time. But for that apparent ease, you’ll have more overall risk.

Consider if you were to buy 10,000 phones from a prepaid carrier. If you don’t have the operations in place to receive and ship out those phones in an efficient manner, it could take you some time before you get the products in the hands of those who will actually be selling them. And that doesn’t include the cost of paying for the phone (or topup) inventory, and the cost to store it. Many prepaid carriers require that distributors prepay for inventory. Some will give you payment terms (ex. net 10 days or 30 days), however, that is becoming less common these days. Even with payment terms, you’ll still need to get the product out, and get paid in time to pay the carrier for the inventory if you want to minimize your cash flow outlay to support your inventory.

As a side note, I’ve seen more than a few mobile phone distributors selling millions upon millions of dollars of phones and airline who have been extremely cash-strapped, and on the brink of bankruptcy! One operational issue, or trouble collecting money from your sub-distribution, and you’re toast! But don’t let that scare you off. Those issues really come down to poor management, and perhaps greed, trying to grow their business too quickly. If you’re wise, you should be able to profitably (and safely!) build your business without being on the edge of financial disaster.

What do you need to become a wireless distributor?

    • Relationships – You’ll need to have relationships with sub-dealers and/or stores. In my opinion this is the most difficult part. Building relationships with other dealers or stores is not easy. It takes a certain kind of person to seek out such opportunities and to sell your services. Due to the amazing potential to make a lot of money in the prepaid wireless distribution business, competition is fierce! You can target a specific neighborhood, type of mom and pop store, small convenience store, etc. Think about where people might want to buy a phone or topup their prepaid wireless account. Also consider what unique value you can add. Do you have special knowledge, insight, or existing relationships with a specific type of community? This should be considered a critical success factor, and will largely determine whether you should be a master cell phone distributor at the top of the chain, a smaller one, or somewhere in the middle. There’s really no “wrong” place to be. Wherever you fit in, and can apply your passion, you’ll have a chance to succeed!
    • Access to Technology – Depending on where you are on the food chain, you’ll need to have technology to process airtime sales. Usually the master cell phone distributor will provide access to technology to partners below them, so lets assume you’re at the top for the moment. You’ll need to partner with a Technology Service Provider (TSP). TSPs also have relationships with prepaid wireless carriers. The larger ones will have direct relationships, while the smaller ones will have indirect relationships. The closer they are to being direct, the more money you’ll likely be able to make (due to higher available margins). There are a number of technologies currently available, and depending on the dealers/stores that are selling your prepaid products, you may need one or all of these:
      • POS Terminals – These are Point Of Sale Terminals that typically look like credit card terminals. They can be used to sell electronic PINs (ePINs) or to perform PIN-less Real Time Replenishment (RTR) transactions.
      • Web Terminals – These are secure websites that provide the same products as do POS terminals, but can be accessed via the Internet, without the need for special hardware or equipment. Internet access, however, IS required.
      • Hot Cards – This product has been phased out of the market. These require minimal or no technology, and can often be purchased directly from the carrier or master distributors. The operational and fraud risks around this product lead carriers to get rid of it; I keep it here as a historical reference, and you may encounter people who talk about it even to this day.

To read about these technologies in detail, visit the Point Of Sale Technology page. As a cell phone distributor you’ll need to get a very good understanding of these replenishment technologies so you can sell your services to dealers and/or stores. You may only need one of them or all of them. Remember that you need to keep in mind the needs of YOUR customers (dealers and/or stores), as well as what the end users (wireless customers) need and prefer. Believe it or not, these are not always the same things!
Special Note: Depending on how large you are, as well as your relationship with your TSP(s) and sub-distribution, you may be able to get these technologies from free, you may have to buy them outright (ex. terminals), or you may be able to lease them. Depending on where your business lies in the food chain, you may be able to pass any costs down to your sub-distribution.

    • Money – You’ll need to either have cash on hand, or access to money from banks or investors. You’ll need this money to pay for technology, warehousing, staff, and of course, prepaid phones and prepaid airtime. Although people tend to worry the most about getting money, I put it last because it really is the easiest part of the equation! If you have good relationships and access to technology, you’re well on your way to building a successful cell phone distributor business, and finding the money will be the easiest part!

This term has been used interchangeably with Click-to-Dial. Today it is more commonly used today to describe a feature that requests a callback from a agent, or opens a chat window, when a person is on a website. Example vendors include Vocalocity, Ring CentralВ and Synclio.

    2. Click-to-Dial

This is an outbound call that is initiated by a single mouse-click on a phone number field in a system. This functionality is commonly enabled in CRM systems and email systems and allows the user to make a call without dialing the number.В Example vendors include Skype, GoogleVoice,В Vocalocity and DATELВ and Cisco.

    3. Preview Dialer

A preview dialer makes sequential dials from a contact list and allows the agent to ‘preview’ the contact record prior to the call, and decide if they wish to proceed with a call or move to the next contact in the list. Calls are made sequentially and the agents do not know who has answered the call. See Power Dialer for example vendors.

    4. Power Dialer

A power dialer is the same as a preview dialer, where the calls are initiated by the users and not made until an agent is available. This term is more commonly used in B2B environments. Example vendors include, CallFire and Five9.

    5. Progressive Dialer

A progressive dialer is similar to a preview dialer, but the system passes the call information to the agent at the same time the call is placed. The agent has a few seconds to view the call information, but is not in control of the calls and cannot typically stop the call process.В Calls are made sequentially and assigned to specific agents. The agents do not know who has answered the call.В Example vendors include VanillaSoft and Leads360.

    6. Predictive Dialer

A predictive dialer makes a large number of calls in parallel and then routes the live call answers to the next available agent. The latency and abandonment rates of predictive dialers may result in an extended delay when the contact answers a call, or in some cases no agent being available. TheВ agents do not know who has answered the call.В Example vendors include Voicent, CallFireВ and Five9.

    7. Live Conversation Automation

Live Conversation Automation (LCA) combines a phone dialer withВ live agents and rapid call-transfer capabilities to deliver guaranteed live conversations to the Caller. In a one-hour period Callers typically experience 5-8 live conversations with targeted contacts.В LCA is designed for B2B environments and has the ability to differentiate and navigate Dial-By-Name Directories, operators and voicemail systems. When an agent makes a positive identification of a targeted contact, the call is transfered without noticeable delay to the Caller or contact. The agent does not speak to the contact in this process. Example vendors include ConnectAndSellВ andВ ConnectLeader.

    8. Voice Broadcasting, also Guided Voicemail

A guided voicemail system, also called voicemail broadcasting, allows you to send thousands of voicemails at one time. These services are used when there is no requirement to speak directly to the recipient. Typical uses cases include announcements (invitations, warnings/alerts, new products, etc) and reminders (impending event, renewal date coming due, etc). Vendors use humanВ agents to navigate through operators, gatekeepers and Dial-By-Name directories to guide your voicemail to the target contactsВ voice mailbox.В Example vendors include BoxPilot, Voice BroadcastingВ and CallFire.

    9. Auto-Dialer

An auto-dialer is used in B2C applications and is a computer that automatically dials a phone number on a list, listens for the correct tone, and then plays a pre-recorded message to a voicemail system. Auto-dialers are primarily used to to leave pre-recorded messages on voicemail systems in residences, and do not have the ability to navigate Dial-By-Name directories or gatekeepers.В Example vendors includeВ Voice2PhoneВ andВ VoiceShot.

    10. Inbound Call Routing, alsoВ Automated Call Distribution (ACD)

The ability to route an inbound call to a salesperson quickly and accurately is critical to avoid missed opportunities. ACD is a standard feature of mostВ PBXВ systems.

These systems either work through the use of line-hunting, Caller-ID routing or burst-calling all salespeople telephone lines simultaneously.В Some systems use the Caller-ID of the inbound call to route the call to the agent or salesperson assigned to that specific number if it exists in the database. If the call is from an unknown telephone number a new record is created in the CRM system and assigned to a salesperson based on area code, or similar rules.

Some systems allow several salespeople to be called simultaneously so that the inbound call is answered in the shortest possible time.

The 8 Best Contract-Free or Prepaid Cell Phones to Buy in

The 8 Best Contract-Free or Prepaid Cell Phones to Buy in 2017

    Buy from Amazon

Motorola’s Moto E Android prepaid smartphone is a great option for users of Tracfone’s network. Running Android 4.4 on the 4.3-inch qHD display, the addition of Corning glass speaks to Motorola’s renowned excellent design that’s both stylish and functional. As an inexpensive device, there’s some tradeoff and that’s shown in the plastic material of the design, but the phone still looks like a device that’s far more expensive. On the rear of the device is the depressed Motorola “M” symbol, which serves as an additional grip point for a more comfortable hold.

While the design may not feel like a million dollars, the included battery offers more than enough juice to get through a full day of average to above average use. The inclusion of a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and 1GB of RAM works perfectly well when opening and closing apps one at a time. Multitasking adds a little more of a challenge (apps take slightly longer to load), but for a very low price point, tradeoffs are bound to exist. Additionally, Motorola includes a five-megapixel camera that offers average quality, but works in a pinch.

Continue to 3 of 8 below.

LG’s Phoenix 2 is a surprisingly attractive and stylish smartphone with an eight-megapixel rear camera and five-megapixel front camera. The rear camera offers surprisingly good color reproduction and accuracy. Low-light shots are a little more difficult, but that’s something to be expected with an introductory smartphone offering. Still, there s the inclusion of 720p video recording at 30fps and a good level of detail with rear-camera photography.

The sturdy design feels superb in the hand without feeling too plasticky or cheap like any number of prepaid devices in a similar price range. The five-inch 1280 x 720 LCD offers a display that’s sharper than most entry-level devices. Operating on AT T’s prepaid LTE network, there’s full support for all of AT T’s suites and offerings available to GoPhone devices. Additionally, there’s support for Bluetooth 4.1, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM, which delivers better-than-average performance.

The Phoenix 2 falters a little on battery life (it lasts just around four hours), which is likely due in part to the more demanding LTE data. The good news is the device offers removable batteries, so carrying a spare is a possibility.

    Best Display: LG Volt 2

    Buy from Amazon

The LG Volt 2 offers a high quality five-inch, 1280 x 720p LCD display. It s supported by a measurement of 294 pixels per inch, on par with phones that are typically more expensive and feature-rich. The display also has excellent viewing angles and is bright enough to see in direct sunlight. Beyond the display, the Volt 2 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Adding additional memory is a snap with microSD card support for up to an additional 32GB of total memory.

The phone has additional features such as Bluetooth 4.0, a loud earpiece volume and noise cancellation for easily holding conversations in a noisy environment. Real world performance is admirable for the price with app switching and multitasking working appropriately without much of a slowdown. As for battery life, the Volt 2 offers a battery that should support between five to six hours of talk time before needing a recharge. An eight-megapixel rear-facing camera and five-megapixel front-facing selfie camera support pictures and video capture.

Continue to 7 of 8 below.

Alcatel’s Big Easy is an excellent device that partners with Tracfone’s prepaid network for an inexpensive choice for senior citizens nationwide. Featuring a two-megapixel camera, MP3 player and 3G connectivity, the Big Easy is perfect for users who want something easy to use without paying an arm and a leg. Additionally, the entire bottom 2/3 of the device is nothing more than the large and easily pressed keypad, send and answer keys, as well as the four-way directional pad for navigating Alcatel’s menu system.

While the large keypad may be the most immediate highlight, the Big Easy arrives out of the box with 800 minutes and one year of service. Additionally, Tracfone includes a car charger within the box adding a little extra value and peace of mind to current and future customers. At just 15 ounces, the Big Easy fits into a purse or pockets without feeling any extra weight.

    Runner-Up, Best Overall: ZTE Maven

    Buy from Amazon

Partnered with AT T’s 4G LTE network, the 4.71-ounce ZTE Maven is an outstanding choice for a prepaid device with fast streaming, downloading and surfing speeds. Featuring a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of memory, the Android Lollipop 5.1 device is a budget-friendly option that feels far more expensive than its price tag. The five-megapixel autofocus rear camera takes OK, if not outstanding, photos that are what to be expected at this price range. A 4.5-inch display is vibrant with easy-to-read text and works surprisingly well under direct sunlight.

Right out of the box, some of the 8GB of memory is already chewed up by the operating system, so ZTE includes storage for a microSD card up to 32GB. The microSD card itself allows for additional storage of pictures and video that can easily take up quite a bit of room. ZTE Maven buyers will also find Android and Google functionality offering more than one million apps through Google’s Play Store. Additionally, the Maven includes a battery that offers up to 10 hours of talk time.

When they suggested I extend the hours to include Saturdays, I was a little skeptical but in the event I’m delighted I took their advice — within a week, I won a contract worth £10,000 and this alone has paid for the service many times over.

  • Welcome to Open Campus! #mcse, #mct, #mcp, #microsoft #certified, #systems #engineer,

    Our Mission.

The mission of RCCD Distance Education (formerly Open Campus) is to extend access to learning through distance education. Objectives: To facilitate learning at a distance, Distance Education provides:

    • Educational technology to the colleges, faculty, and students to support the delivery of online-based courses and services
    • Professional development and training for faculty
    • Expertise and experience
    • Blackboard management, production and problem solving.

As of April 21, the Open Campus department has changed its name to Distance Education. We thank you for your patience as we work to complete the changes to website by the middle of summer.

What Are Online Based or Distance Education classes?

Online-based courses, also called Distance Education classes, may take two different forms:

Online classes are taken exclusively over the Internet. Please note that, while some online courses provide all instructional content over the Internet, others may require some on-campus meetings. Please see the course schedule or WebAdvisor for more information.

Hybrid classes meet both on campus and online. Think of them as a combination or blending of online classes and face-to-face classes.

In a hybrid class, you will attend meetings on campus during the dates and times listed in the schedule of classes. Since the on-campus portion of hybrid classes could take place at any of our three colleges (Riverside City, Norco or Moreno Valley), hybrid classes are listed in the schedule by the college where the on-campus meetings will take place.

Are there Face-to-Face classes that use the Internet?

Web-Enhanced classes are traditional face-to-face classes that are supplemented with course websites and the use of Internet resources. Unlike hybrid or fully-online classes, all web-enhanced class meetings take place on campus.

    Where Do I Start?

For more information about Blackboard and support, visit

Whether you are looking for fastest speed or limited speed, or want to bundle internet with TV and home phone service, you will be offered here the best packages available in your area. Simply enter your zip code or city to find the offer that’s right for your needs and budget.

    Types of ISP Connection

    DSL Internet

Digital subscriber line (DSL) is a technology that provides Internet access by transmitting digital data over the wires of a local telephone network. DSL brings high-bandwidth information to homes and small businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines. DSL service is delivered simultaneously with wired telephone service on the same telephone line. An ordinary telephone connection jack can be used to plug in to DSL Internet access. DSL is generally much faster than a dialup connection.

    How to setup DSL Internet?

Once you are sure that your DSL line is active, you can begin setup. The service requires a DSL modem, which connects to the telephone wall jack and computer. You can add a router to create a home network and with the wireless router you can enjoy high-speed access as you move around your home with a laptop, even connecting from the front porch or backyard.

What are the top DSL ISP Providers?

Internet service providers that offer access via cable infrastructures are typically the local cable company, the same company that provides television and voice services. TV signal comes into your home on, but does not effect or interfere with your TV signal. Therefore you can use your internet service and watch TV at the same time without any problems.

Typically, internet speed is higher with cable internet service than it is with DSL internet service. The speed of a DSL connection is based on how close your house is to the phone company, a cable connection will have a consistent speed no matter how far away the cable company is.

    How to setup Cable Internet?

To access cable internet service all you need to do is plug your PC into your cable internet modem and your cable internet modem into your normal cable television outlet on the wall.

The advanced technology transmits signals through the air, so you get wireless internet anywhere in a coverage area.

Wi-Fi is a technology that allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly using radio waves over a computer network, including high-speed Internet connections. Wi-Fi provides service in private homes, high street chains and independent businesses, as well as in public spaces at Wi-Fi hotspots set up either free-of-charge or commercially. It is a packaged internet service deal that provides the ability to access the internet wirelessly from any location within the service’s coverage area. Areas that provide wireless broadband internet service are known as hotspots. Some localities provide free wireless Internet for residents and visitors.

    How to setup Wireless Internet?

Satellite Internet services utilize telecommunications satellites in Earth orbit to provide Internet access to consumers. Satellite Internet access is Internet access provided through satellites.

Satellite broadband internet websites load many times faster than dial-up. Similar to satellite TV, satellite internet offers you a high-speed internet connection without the need for a phone line or hard-wired cable. When you access the Internet, fiber-optic cables carry digital information by sending pluses of light through an optical fiber.

Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) refers to transmitting information over optical fiber direct from provider’s central location to a home or business. FTTH or FTTP method provides higher bandwidth to user than traditional copper wires or coaxial cable.

    Great Product, Terrible Customer Service

    2013-02-15 00:11:01 | By loebotomy

    | Version: Phone Dialer Pro 5.2

I haven’t be able to find another program out there that will dial selected text via your modem. This program does this well among other features that I am not using.

I replaced my hard drive and the files that I had saved from my original installation did not work. I asked for a new registration file, which did not work. Then, after charging me an additional $10, I was sent yet another registration file that worked. I and others have reported that he blames his customers for not following his directions correctly. Apparently, the developer is a very busy man and can’t be bothered helping his paying customers without charging them more for the support.

I wish that someone would develop an application to compete with this guy. The program works well and the cost is very reasonable, but I prefer to support businesses that appreciate their customers and treat them respectfully. Check out Softpedia for more reviews.

Excellent Software! Best one I ve Used. Easy Set Up #38;Use

    There are No Cons.

I’ve been marketing from home for over 10 years and this is hands down the best dialer I have ever used. The customer service is super fast. If you are looking for the best dialer that works with every type of program you are using then you want to download this software today.

A lifesaver. works with no trouble. used for years

    January 09, 2011 | By wes2k

    2011-01-09 23:47:58 | By wes2k

    | Version: Phone Dialer Pro 5.2

I don’t make full use of its features as others may, but it’s the only game around that allows me to select a phone number and dial it with a mouse button click. A real lifesaver for those who spend a lot of time on the phone.

I’ve had to reinstall the software two times now when I’ve had hardware failures on my system and I’ve needed to solicit the support/author for new license/key gen file but other than that (a minor inconvenience) it works no problem.

Again, there isn’t another product that does what this does. I’ve looked and tried everything out there. It’s quick, painless and just works.

Program Stop Working ERROR when I first started it

    2010-12-29 06:30:18 | By verticalspeed0

    | Version: Phone Dialer Pro 5.2

NONE – could not even get to the main screen

Error out immediately when I started it. Don’t even try it if you are using Enterprise Vista.

I welcome help from the maker because it’s been hard to find a program that will allow me to dial any number on any window by just doing a right click on it.

Reply by jastrzebiec on January 9, 2011

There is nothing wrong with the software. It runs fine in Vista and Windows 7 environment.

How to Save a Wet Cell Phone: 6 Steps #the #first

How to Save a Wet Cell Phone

This instructable will cover two ways that can help you repair a “wet” phone. As water damage varies from case to case, there is no guarantees that this will work in your case, but it is worth a try!

It is important to know that these procedures will NOT void warranty. However, if your phone has been water damaged, there is a large chance your warranty is already void! On newer phones, there is usually a sticker in the battery bay that is used to tell the manufacturer when a phone has been “water damaged” which allows the manufacturer to then cancel the warranty. This sticker is usually round in shape, and starts off white when it is not wet. Although, I think my samsung a900M started with brown and went to black.

If neither of these methods work, and your sticker is still it’s original color, try to have your phone serviced under warranty.

CAUTION: Before attempting ANY method in this instructable, remove the battery, battery door, and SIM card if applicable, and place them in a safe location!

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damages to your phone as a result of you attempting any of these methods, do so at your own risk.

    Step 1: Understanding the Problem

When your phone got wet, it most likely got some moisture trapped inside it. This moisture causes the phone to behave very funny, and possibly not even power up.
This is due to the conductivity of water (It’s ability to have electrical current pass through it.) This moisture can bridge certain connections in your phone, causing these behaviors.

Even though your phone may behave fine at first, it is better to dry the phone before use anyways, as the water that remains inside can be moved around, and cause issues later.

So what to remember, is that after exposing your phone to moisture, you want to nullify the moisture inside.

Step 2: Prepping the Phone for “repair”

As we discussed in the last step, we want to make the water either dry up, or we can use a “Neutralizer” technique that allows it to become not as conductive.

The first thing we need to do is remove the battery and battery door and place them in a safe spot. This is because the phone can air out better without the battery, we don’t want to damage the battery, and we also reduce the amount of live circuits that the water can short out.

Step 3: Method One: Heat It Up!

I live in Arizona, and here in the sunny state of AZ, we have an abundance of swimming pools. My phone has gone for a swim many times in the past few weeks, and this method was tried and proved each time.

Fortunately, here in Arizona, I can take off the battery and leave the phone in the sun, on a towel to prevent heat damage from surface contact, for about 20 minutes and it’s good to go! Your timing may vary depending on how hot the sun is, but this method is my preferred.

Pretty simple, remove the battery door and battery, place them inside, place a rag out in the sun and put the rest of the phone on that. Depending on how hot of a day it is, bring the phone inside for a bit if it ever gets hot to the touch (overheating can damage LCD screens.)

Step 4: Method 2: Freeze It!

The second method consists of freezing the water inside the phone. This is by far my favorite method if your outside temperature does not go over 80 F.

Again, we start by taking out the battery.
Place the phone on two or three layers of paper towel to prevent frost damage.
Leave it in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes and take it out to test it, if it still doesn’t work, leave it out for about 5 to 10 minutes then try again. Electrical components are fairly tolerant to cold, however depending on your screen, it is best to play it safe and just leave it out of the freezer for a bit to keep from damaging it. I haven’t researched LCD or Plasma screens, so if anyone knows what temperatures they hold up to, let us know!

That’s cool, but why does it work?

Freezing the phone works a little differently on a technical level than heating it up does.
When the water molecules inside become Ice or frost, they are less conductive (I believe due to the spacing of molecules?) thus preventing the phone from “shorting out.”

This method my also lead to the problem acting up again as the phone thaws, or a worse problem acting up as the phone thaws and the water moves to a different spot.
It is also of note, that some electronic components are ‘surface mounted’, which results in tiny space between the component and the circuit board it self. This means that if water manages to get underneath the components and is then frozen, it can expand and cause further issues. However, in my opinion, the possibility of water getting under there with the phone only being submerged for a little while, is pretty slim.

    Step 5: Unverified Methods

The following are methods that I have not verified myself. Next time my phone gets wet, I’ll try some out!

    1: The oven
It is said that placing the phone in the oven for a few hours at about 125 F. will solve the problem. This method sounds likely, but I would recommend taking it out now and then to test it and let it cool! And don’t forget to remove the battery, cover, and SIM card!

User Carolradtech has tried this method, and said the following.
I successfully baked my wet cell phone on 125 for 40 minutes and the phone is now fixed. the unverified baking method is now verified.

    2: Rice
It has also been reported that placing the phone in a bowl of rice while putting it in the sun allows the moisture to absorb faster. As the water evaporates into steam, the dry rice can absorb it rather than have it re-condense elsewhere inside the phone.

    3: Silica!
This one is similar to the rice method, it just utilizes a better drying agent. Ya know those little packets that come in jerky, new shoes, purses, backpacks, whatever, that say “DO NOT EAT” all over them? The contain little balls of a chemical called “silica.” Place these in a bag with the phone, and toss it in the sun! This is potentially the best method I have heard of. It is also of note that craft shops sell silica as a flower drying agent.

    4: Give it booze!
Well not exactly. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is non-conductive. It is said that if you get some, put it in a cup or a bucket, and swirl the phone around in there, it will rinse out the water and likely even clean some dust deposits! This will prevent any further “bridging” of connections as it is non-conductive, and alcohol evaporates super fast.
A few words of caution: I would try this only with the bottom half of your phone if you have a flip-phone, as I am not sure how the screen will react. Also, I wouldn’t attempt it with anything less than 91% isopropyl.

    Last but not least..
5: Open it up and air dry!
This is the best method hands down, but it will sacrifice any sort of warranty you had. I do NOT recommend this method unless you are entirely comfortable with it.

    Step 6: Rrport Your Success/failure!

Now your phone hopefully functions as good as new! Let us all know how it worked (or didn’t) and keep your information-lifeline away from swimming pools!

  • Avaya Review 2017 #office #phone #systems #reviews

    Avaya IP Office Review

Editor s Note: On Jan. 19, 2017, Avaya filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. At this time, we are continuing to recommend it as one of the best small business phone systems. However, we are monitoring the status of the company and if necessary will adjust our best picks as the situation evolves.

Avaya’s phone system is an excellent on-premises solution for small businesses because of the options it offers. The on-premises systems are available in several different platforms, each of which can be customized for the specific features and tools a business wants.

In addition to being one of the best on-premises phone systems, Avaya is among the contenders for best call center phone system, best phone system for enterprises and best phone system for businesses with multiple locations.

    • Best for: On-premises, call center, enterprise and multiple locations
    • Phone service: VoIP
    • Hosting: On-premises and cloud
    • Costs: One-time fees of $500 to $550 per user for on-premises systems; $25 per user per month for cloud-hosted systems
    • Support: Phone, email and live chat
    • Mobile app: iOS and Android devices

    Multiple Deployment Options

Avaya offers a robust VoIP phone system for small businesses that can be configured specifically for each business. The system we researched in depth was the Office IP platform. This system is designed for businesses with five to 3,000 users.

The Office IP platform can be deployed as an on-premises system or a cloud-hosted solution. Both options have same functionality; however, with the on-premises system, your IT staff is responsible for maintaining it and making any upgrades when necessary. With the cloud-hosted system, Avaya handles all of the maintenance and upgrades.

A nice aspect of the on-premises system is that businesses can configure it for their specific needs. Each system starts with the main platform, a two-rack unit, and then businesses can pick and choose from the different add-ons. Add-ons can include mobility options and call center services. This allows your business to build a system that has exactly what it needs. As a business grows, the equipment can easily add storage, phone lines and new capabilities.

The choice between an on-premises and a cloud-based system is part of what makes Avaya a great option for enterprise businesses and businesses with multiple locations. Since larger businesses have varying needs, having options on how they deploy their phone systems is a huge plus for many organizations.

Avaya is also an enticing option for enterprises because of the large number of employees that can use the service. Businesses that have more employees than the Office IP platform supports can deploy Avaya’s Aura platform. This platform can serve up to 250,000 workers, including 2,500 on a single server.

For businesses operating multiple offices or stores, the IP Office platform can easily expand to work in 150 different locations. Avaya’s phone system allows businesses to manage each location from a single browser-based interface. In addition, businesses using IP phones can automatically switch their service to one of the other locations should the office they are working in lose power. This helps ensure continuous operation.

Overall, Avaya’s business phone systems offer more features and tools than most of its competitors. In total, the system is available in five editions Basic, Essential, Preferred, Server and Select that differ in the number of included features.

Among the features available are automated attendants, caller ID, automatic callback, the ability to put calls on hold, on-hold music, the option to transfer calls and toggle between multiple calls at one time, and voicemail and voicemail-to-email. Altogether, Avaya offers more than 600 features and tools.

One module businesses can add to the system is the Avaya Communicator. This allows employees to use their mobile devices or computers to talk on their business lines, make video calls and instant-message with co-workers. A presence feature indicates who is online and available for a meeting.

In addition to choosing the edition with the features it needs, your business can designate which employees have access to which features. Each employee is designated as a basic user, office worker or power user.

Basic users can make and receive calls and have access to most of the standard features, such as the ability to put calls on hold and transfer calls. The office worker designation allows employees to also use the visual voicemail tool, access the corporate directory, and integrate their systems with Microsoft Office and Salesforce.

Power users have total control of the system. This allows them to make and receive calls on their mobile devices over cellular, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G connections. They can also schedule conference calls and turn their home phones into their office phones.

In addition to its regular phone system features, the Avaya contact center module offers features and tools for businesses with a call center. Among them are the ability for customers to connect with businesses via the phone, email and web chat.

It also has skills-based call routing, interactive voice recordings, call recording, integrations with customer relationship management software, and access to real-time and historical reports. The contact center services also let businesses make telemarketing and outbound campaign calls.

Since Avaya’s phone systems are so customized, pricing is often different for each business. Additionally, Avaya works with local resellers to sell and install the systems, which can affect pricing.

The prices that one of Avaya’s local resellers quoted to us were based on a business with 100 total employees and 25 call center seats. For the on-premises system we were looking at, which included the mobility, conference calling and upgraded voicemail modules, the one-time costs were $500 per station. That included basic phones and installation. The call center service had additional one-time costs of $1,200 per user. The prices, however, do not include the monthly cost of bringing a dial tone into the system either via PRI circuits or SPI trunking.

The cloud-hosted system cost $25 to $30 per user per month. That included 500 calling minutes per station. Call center services cost an additional $36 per month per user. However, there is an additional $400 charge per station for phones and installation.

Since the pricing we were quoted was for our specific requirement and by a reseller in our area, the costs of the system for your business would be different. Knowing that Avaya offers such a wide range of system options, we would encourage all businesses to contact Avaya, or a local reseller, early on in their research process to get specific pricing for their exact needs.

While some phone system providers handle all of their sales and support in-house, others, like Avaya, work with resellers in local communities. These resellers work with businesses individually to design and price out packages that best fit their needs. They also handle the installation, training and some support moving forward.

During our research, we first contacted Avaya to learn more about the system. After giving us some basic details, the Avaya representative we spoke with asked for our contact information and said a local reseller in our area would reach out to us to provide more specifics and pricing details.

While we were initially discouraged that we couldn’t learn more during that initial call, we were pleased when we heard back from the local reseller that same day. The reseller we spoke with was extremely knowledgeable about the Avaya system and provided us with more than enough detail.

In addition, he followed up by emailing us a 90-page document that described the system in even more detail. The reseller also didn’t hesitate to share pricing information with us.

While our interactions with the local reseller left us very comfortable with the service his company would provide, we can’t guarantee that Avaya resellers in all communities would offer this same level of support.

Similarly with pricing, it is important to spend some time talking with the reseller Avaya refers you to in order to get an idea of what it would be like to work with them. Since getting the right phone system is such a big decision, businesses should make sure the reseller they are working with is not only going to provide a system that meets all of their needs, but is doing so for a fair price.

Avaya does handle some support issues itself. If users have a problem, the company encourages them to file a help ticket online or launch a live chat session to get assistance.

VoIPVoIP is a division of Kosmaz Technologies LLC.
Copyright 2006-2016 Kosmaz Technologies LLC. All Rights Reserved.

Kosmaz is a VoIP service provider enabling pay as you go prepaid Internet phone service and International Virtual Phone Numbers. Bring Your Own Device or BYOD voip option allow customers to connect their own voice over IP systems, SIP devices, including IP phones, softphones, and IP PBX. This single account access solution enables service to be used as home phone service, small business voip service, mobile VoIP phone, pc to phone or as calling card with need of only one account.

The question to What is VoIP is simple; VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is a technical way of saying using the Internet for making telephone calls. VoIP service technology converts regular (or analog) phone calls into data (or digital) and zips them through your high-speed Internet connection.

The main benefit of VoIP service is very non-technical and simple to understand – it is cheaper than traditional phone services and has more features than you probably currently know about or use. With VoIP service you can call anywhere at anytime for less money. And it’s better than your traditional line because it expands the power of your phone.

Placing a call with VoIP service is exactly the same as with any other regular phone. Just pick up the handset and dial the regular telephone number. It’s that simple. You don’t have to be technical or computer savvy to use VoIP service. Receiving calls also works the same. The phone will ring just like a regular phone. With VoIP service, just pick up the phone and start talking!

In more technical terms, your VoIP adapter splits your high-speed broadband connection and converts your analog signal to digital. The digital signal is sent through your modem and across the Internet. Your Internet connection will work as it did before you installed the VoIP adapter, sending emails and other Web data to your personal computer as normal. When someone calls you, they dial your regular telephone number. Behind the scenes, your number looks similar to an e-mail address. This number instructs the call to travel over the Internet to the VoIP adapter, your phone rings, and all you have to do is pick up and answer it.

VoIP service offers a number of advantages over current telephone services. Although it relies on different technology and communications that does not travel over traditional phone lines, it provides features similar to your current telephone service. This includes Call Waiting, 3-Way Calling, and Caller ID.

VoIP services also provide additional features that provide control and connectedness, such as the ability for callers to find you wherever you are, the ability to see all inbound and outbound calls over months, and the ability to listen to and manage voicemail.

A VoIP service will not work without household power or without broadband or high-speed Internet connection

Along with low domestic and international phone rates, an impressive array of special phone features are available with VoIP services. Typical service plans allow you to choose your own preferred free local dialing US area code, regardless of where you live. You can add a Virtual Phone Number in any area code, forwarded to your phone.

    Some of the other advanced features included;

Voice Mail and eFeatures – See and hear messages via the Web or through your phone and forward voice messages to your e-mail account. E-mail tells you when you have a message. Forward voicemail as an e-mail attachment.

Call Logs – View a list of calls you placed and received and click on any number to automatically dial, just like on your wireless phone.

Call Forwarding – Set your service so callers can find you at other numbers when you’re not at your phone.

Speed Dial – Set up single-digit shortcuts for the numbers you call the most – just like on your cell phone.

Personal Conferencing – Set up a meeting room with up to ten callers on the same line. Personal Conferencing is provided free of charge.

Do Not Disturb – Receive calls only when you want to. Forward calls to voicemail but allow urgent calls to ring through.

While most VoIP services insist on supplying VoIP device, which usually is locked so it only works with one service provider, with VoIPVoIP, you have the freedom to use virtually any softphone, VoIP adapter, gateway, IP phone, or IP PBX system you choose, as long as it supports SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).

You can use our VoIP service in many different ways.

The Cisco ATA 187 Analog Telephone Adaptor is a handset-to-Ethernet adaptor that turns traditional telephone devices into IP devices. Customers can take advantage of the many new and exciting IP telephony applications by connecting their analog devices to Cisco ATAs.

The Cisco ATA products are standards-based communication devices that deliver true, next-generation voice-over-IP (VoIP) terminations to businesses and residences worldwide.

    • Protects existing telephone investment: The Cisco ATA 187 supports two voice ports, each with its own independent telephone number, and a single RJ-45 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet port. This adaptor can make use of existing Ethernet LANs in addition to broadband pipes such as DSL, fixed wireless, and cable modem deployments.

    • Cost effective: The Cisco ATA 187 helps customers turn their analog phone devices into IP devices cost effectively and is the preferred solution to address the needs of customers who connect to enterprise networks, small-office environments, or the emerging VoIP managed voice services and local services market.

Enterprise customers are using the Cisco ATA 187 to connect analog phones and fax machines to their VoIP network. Service providers are taking advantage of emerging telephony applications and the ease of deploying second-line services using the Cisco ATA 187 (Figures 1 and 2).

Top 4 Benefits of Virtual Phone Systems for Business #best #virtual

    Virtual Business Phone Systems

This article will review virtual telephone systems and help you decide which type of system is best for your business.

What Is a Virtual Phone System?

Virtual phone systems connect calls over the internet so no hardware or software needs to be purchased or installed. One main number is given out to customers and is answered with an automatic message which then gives the caller the option to dial an extension. The extension is not limited to one phone line and can be diverted to a mobile or landline. Calls can be answered and routed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with each employee or department can have its own extension. There is also a voicemail option for with these messages even having the capability to be sent as sound files to email accounts if a user is already on another call.

    Save up to 30%

Do you already have a Telephone System ?

Benefits of the Virtual Phone System

A virtual phone system is cheaper than a private exchange branch (PBX) system because there is no need to purchase or install any hardware. The system can be used with standard landlines and mobiles that the businesses already have and use. Virtual systems work best for small businesses on the move. It enables employees to be mobile yet still be contactable in a professional way. Calls can be diverted straight to voicemail. Indeed, many businesses prefer this method rather than taking calls on mobiles where the best reception cannot be guaranteed. Many smaller companies believe the initial automated answering system creates an illusion of a larger, professional company which is more reassuring for the customer. The system can add credibility to a company at a reasonably low cost.

Is a Virtual Phone System Suitable for Any Business?

Whilst the system is good for smaller businesses the system struggles to cope with more than 8 extensions. This obviously is a major disadvantage for larger companies who would prefer the more adaptable PBX system. If a small company grows it is likely the will have to install a PBX system so many may feel they may as well pay for this straight away rather than have to replace the virtual system at a later date. Find out more about PBX Telephone Systems Many also question the quality of calls connected over the internet arguing it cannot match traditional phone systems. There is no doubt that virtual phone systems work for small, mobile businesses. A single phone number is allocated to a business and when dialled this number connects to a professional, automated message. The caller can reach any department, or employee, through extension numbers. The flexibility to the system ensures employees are not tied to a desk and can carry out their normal routine while still being easily contactable. Callers can be transferred to voicemail if the business so requires it. However, virtual systems are limited to only a few extension numbers. This means they are unsuitable for larger businesses or smaller businesses that are looking to grow. The quality of calls connected over the internet is also questionable. Virtual phone system can be cost effective and efficient but they are targeted towards a specific type of business. This means that, ultimately, the virtual system is no threat to the more established PBX system.

Sorry, AT – T: T-Mobile says it has fastest wireless network

Sorry, AT T: T-Mobile says it has fastest wireless network in US

T-Mobile claims it now has the fastest wireless network in the United States.

At a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday, the wireless operator said that its newly deployed 4G LTE network, which now covers 209 million people in the US in 273 metro areas, is the fastest wireless network in the United States. The company’s CEO, John Legere, known for his pokes at competitor AT T, giddily pointed out that this means it has unseated AT T as the supposed fastest carrier in the US.

“If you look at that data, we win by a mile,” he said.

Legere said he plans sending a cease-and-desist letter to AT T to have the company change its marketing. Legere even joked he’d take a camera crew with him as he personally delivered the letter to AT T execs.

AT T has been advertising it has the fastest wireless network for almost a year, and T-Mobile’s Legere and CTO Neville Ray argued that AT T’s claims are based on old data. T-Mobile, which just deployed its 4G LTE network en masse this past year, says it has more up-to-date speed test data that proves it holds the crown as the fastest network.

Ray explained that using data collected from Ookla’s, T-Mobile has consistently outpaced all its competitors when it comes to speed using the Web site.

The data was collected from T-Mobile and other wireless customers testing their service using the site as well as paid consultants that T-Mobile sent out to test the networks.

After compiling and analyzing months’ worth of data, Ray said that T-Mobile consistently performed better than its competitors’ 4G LTE networks. For example, in December, T-Mobile had an average download speed of 17.8Mbps compared with 14.7Mbps from AT T and 14.3Mbps from Verizon Wireless. Sprint came in with speeds of 7.9Mbps.

To show how this data can be collected and analyzed daily, he also showed averages for a single day, January 7, 2013. On that day, T-Mobile offered average download speeds of 16.8Mbps. Verizon had average downloads of 15.1Mpbs. AT T topped out at 13.7Mbps, and Sprint had an average speed of 7.6Mbps.

Ray explained that T-Mobile’s performance will only increase as the company rolls out its so-called Wideband LTE. This Wideband LTE service is not a new technology or variation of LTE, rather it’s simply a marketing term used by T-Mobile to highlight pockets of the company’s network where it has more spectrum allocated for LTE use.

    Wideband LTE and low-frequency spectrum
Most LTE Networks today, such as Verizon’s network, have been built using a minimum of a 10MHz sliver of spectrum for upstream traffic and a 10MHz sliver of spectrum for downstream. T-Mobile has been adding spectrum to its footprint, and in some markets, such as Dallas, it has deployed twice as much spectrum for LTE, offering a 20MHz sliver for upstream and a 20MHz sliver for downstream data transmissions.

Because Wideband LTE is nothing more than an LTE service with more wireless spectrum allocated in specific locations, existing LTE devices work just as they do on parts of the network with less spectrum allocated.

Even though T-Mobile may now try to claim to be the fastest wireless network in the nation, it certainly isn’t the most extensive. T-Mobile is still very much constrained to a relatively small footprint that centers around densely populated areas like cities. This has been a major handicap over the years as the company tries to compete with AT T and Verizon.

But Ray assured the audience at the press conference that the carrier is working on improving this aspect of the carrier’s network, too. The main problem is that T-Mobile lacks low-frequency spectrum, which travels long distances and penetrates obstacles like walls more easily. This type of spectrum is ideal for covering rural and suburban areas.

Instead, the company has built its network using higher-frequency spectrum that transmits signals over shorter distances, has more difficulty penetrating walls and other obstacles, but offers a lot of capacity.

In an effort to expand its network to more places and improve in-building coverage, T-Mobile has been pursuing opportunities to buy low-frequency spectrum. Earlier this week, it announced a deal with Verizon in which it will swap some of its higher-band spectrum for lower-frequency spectrum in the 700MHz A block. This will finally give T-Mobile some low-frequency spectrum to at least begin building its network beyond cities.

“We’re going to take that network with low-band spectrum, and expand into homes, vacation destinations, other places,” Ray said.

The new 700MHz A block spectrum from Verizon offers T-Mobile low-frequency spectrum in 9 out of the top 10 urban markets and 21 of the top 30 markets, the company said when the deal was announced. But the larger 4G LTE footprint won’t be built overnight. The deal with Verizon still needs approval from regulators. And after that, T-Mobile will need to address some interference issues.

The block of spectrum that T-Mobile bought is right next to the broadcast TV channel 51. In some markets where broadcasters are using channel 51 there are potential interference issues. But on a call with investors on Monday, Ray explained that these issues are minor — and that 50 percent of the new spectrum holdings have no interference issues because there is no channel 51 broadcaster transmitting a signal. So in cities such as Dallas, Washington, Miami, Philadelphia, and Minneapolis, T-Mobile will be able to add the new spectrum immediately after the deal is closed.

Then the only thing that will hold back T-Mobile customers from benefiting from the new spectrum are the handsets. T-Mobile will need to add additional radio support to handsets to take advantage of the 700MHz frequency.

With low-band spectrum, Ray said, T-Mobile will be able to level the playing field.

“We have the weapons to do that now,” he said.

Using Your Mobile Phone in Italy #travel, #technology, #cell #phone

Using Your Mobile Phone in Italy

We have all become more dependent upon our mobile phones than we ever imagined: they double up as our music player, camera and personal organiser. They keep us connected to social media and enable us to share our experiences worldwide.

As mobile devices have increased in both popularity and ease of use, there’s been a gradual decline in the U.S and the United Kingdom in public telephones and this is the same in Italy, with many small villages no longer having a street corner telephone.

If you are visiting Italy and want to use your mobile/cell phone while you are there, here are a few things that you’ll need to know.

Will my phone work in Italy?

Italy, like most EU countries, uses the GSM mobile system, meaning that the majority of U.K. mobile devices in circulation will be compatible; however, only 50% of U.S. and Canadian handsets will work in European countries. So before you travel, it’s a good idea to contact your service provider and make enquiries. Also please check your contract, as some providers will require notice that you intend to use your device whilst travelling out of your country of residence.

    Roaming and Charges

Once you are in Italy, your handset will be ‘roaming’, this means it will be looking for an Italian service provider to connect to. The four Italian service providers are Wind, Vodafone, TIM and Three. Roaming means that you can stay connected at all times, but it does also mean that there can be additional charges. If you have a smartphone, it’s a good idea to turn off data roaming until it is required. Data roaming is when your phone automatically updates internet services, such as Facebook updates, Twitter feeds, etc. One of the biggest complaints from holiday-makers is the high costs accrued for data roaming, so turn it on only when you need to check your email and post on social media.

One thing to bear in mind is the extra charges that will be incurred while you use your handset abroad. For every incoming call you receive, there will be an additional charge to your handset for the portion of the call that is routed through the host country’s telephone system; some providers will also charge even if you don’t answer the call.

Local calls and texts may be charged at the local Italian rate, however texts home to your friends and family will also incur further charges. Also bear in mind that if you call or text a friend who is in your holiday group on their non-Italian phone, it will still be considered to be an international communication and subject to your service providers international rates.

    Unlocking your Phone

One of the easiest ways to keep track of phone charges whilst in Italy is to purchase a SIM card, as all the Italian providers operate pre-paid services. Unfortunately, most mobile handsets are locked and will only be compatible with SIM cards belonging to your service provider. If you contact your service provider and explain that you are travelling and will be using another SIM card while abroad, they will unlock your device or send you a code to do so by SMS. Some providers will try to talk you into taking an international package, but in most cases these work out more expensive than using an Italian SIM card.

Obtaining an Italian SIM card is relatively easy; all you will need to provide at the point of sale is your address while in the country and your passport, which will be photocopied. Unlike some EU countries where it is possible to purchase a pre-paid card anonymously, this is not possible in Italy, as the details of all telephone users and their numbers are registered.

Finally, Italian SIM cards expire after a certain period of inactivity. Providers vary from 3 to 12 months; this also includes any credit you may have left, so it’s best to use up the remaining credit and dispose of the card once you return home, as it won’t be worth saving it for another visit a year or two later.

Also before you change the SIM cards, save your address book to your handset so that it will be available for use with the Italian card and remember to add the (+) sign and country code to the numbers you will be calling while on vacation.

    KX-TS3282B is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from The only 2-line phone option that makes any sense I have used this same 2-line phone for years. The one I have is white, but otherwise identical to the picture shown here. It is virtually bulletproof/sturdy and offers excellent sound quality, either via handset or speakerphone. I still haven’t figured out the intercom features, but who cares–this thing totally works, and that’s more than I can say for any other multi-line phone I’ve ever used. Highly recommended!

    Date published: 2015-03-25

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great inexpensive intercom This phone seems fairly unique in that it serves as a hands free auto answer intercom able to page any extention and communicate hands free on both ends. It also allows paging to all extentions at once from any extention. The intercom capability uses regular phone system wiring with no special requirements. The speaker phone is good quality and audible from 10 feet when using the intercom. The phone itself is decent but has some design flaws that keep this phone from being truely amazing for the price. The display has no backlight which makes it difficult to read. The phone base angle sits very low to the desk which adds to the display being hard to read. There are only three quick memory dial buttons. The no backlight display would normally be a deal killer for me but the intercom feature is so terrific that it is worth living with any of the other issues.
