Compensation and Benefits:

How do I become a Travel Nurse with Medical Solutions?

Simply fill out the application in our Apply section. You can also call us at 1.866.633.3548 and speak with a personal Career Consultant. They can answer your questions and send you an information packet.

Am I obligated to travel with Medical Solutions if I fill out an application?

No. You are never obligated to travel with Medical Solutions regardless if you have submitted your application or not. Your information is always kept confidential and we must get your permission before submitting your resume to a Client. This gives you a chance to explore your options and choose the best assignment.

What is the process to become a Travel Nurse?

Our process is simple. All we need to begin is your application and resume. Once we receive your information we can begin discussing potential assignments that fit your profile. Again, you are under no obligation to travel with Medical Solutions just because you submitted your information to us. Your personal Career Consultant will send you an information packet that contains a simple checklist outlining the documents you will need to become a Travel Nurse or Travel Allied Health Professional. Many of these documents and the checklist can be downloaded from our website under Resources.

Is there a fee to become a Travel Nurse for Medical Solutions?

Absolutely not. We re paid by the hospital. If you choose to travel with Medical Solutions, you will become our employee and we pay you.

How much is my pay?

Your total compensation package, including your hourly pay, is completely customized to fit your needs. Pay rates vary from assignment to assignment depending on location and the hospital.

How often will I be paid?

You are paid weekly by direct deposit. Most Travelers have their paycheck directly deposited in their primary bank to eliminate the hassle of finding a new bank for each assignment.

What is a Personalized Pay Package?

It simply means we have the flexibility to compensate you in a number of different ways! Most Traveling Nurse and Allied Health companies have cookie-cutter programs and a take it or leave it attitude. With Medical Solutions, we find out what s most important to you: hourly pay, stipends, bonuses, per diem, etc. We ll take the time to understand your needs, put a package together outlining each item, and clearly explain your total compensation.

What about housing?

With Medical Solutions, your housing is paid, private, and fully furnished! Unlike some companies, you are not required to share housing. Our housing coordinators will find you the best housing available, focusing on drive time, safety, and security. We handle all the arrangements for you, including furnishings and utilities. All you need to do is show up. Of course, if you prefer to pick something on your own or stay with friends or family, you will be offered a housing stipend.

What is Per Diem?

Per diem allowances and reimbursements are typically tax-free dollars allotted to you for traveling away from your primary residence. It is designed to cover the expense of your meals, transportation, and many costs associated with traveling.

Do you offer a 401(k)?

Yes, we offer a plan through Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust with auto enrollment after your first 30 days of work and an employer match of 50% of your contribution up to 3%. Ask your Career Consultant for more information.

Do you offer travel reimbursements?

Yes, Medical Solutions will provide you a travel stipend reimbursement to assist you with any of the costs you incur traveling to and from your assignment. Half of this stipend is provided in your first paycheck while the remainder is provided at the end of your assignment.

What Travel Nursing and Travel Allied Health assignments are available?

Medical Solutions has open travel assignments across the country for most specialties and shifts. We receive and fill new assignments every day. Just tell us where you want to travel and we ll present open assignments or find one for you. Additionally, you can search current opportunities on the Job Search page.

How long does it take to get an assignment?

Once you have interviewed for the position and both you and the facility decide to move forward, it typically takes one to six weeks, depending on when you are available and the start date of the assignment. We typically begin presenting new assignments to you about 30 days from the end of your current assignment.

What about state licensing?

Your personal Career Consultant can tell you exactly how much time is necessary to apply for a state license and the cost. Of course, if a temporary license is required, Medical Solutions will reimburse you for the cost.

What happens after my Travel Nursing assignment is over?

Before your assignment is over, your personal Career Consultant will begin discussing new Travel Nursing assignments with you. However, it is completely your choice to extend your assignment (if an extension is offered), take another assignment, go full time, or simply take a break. A Master’s in Social Work (MSW) is one of the best degrees you can have for helping others and getting paid to do so.

Why complete an MSW program?

The BLS reports that MSW programs may be particularly helpful when it comes to obtaining advanced job opportunities or working in some areas such as in schools or health care, and it s required to become a licensed clinical social worker. MSW degrees generally take two years to complete, depending on class scheduling and student aptitude, and require the completion of on-the-job experience through internships or field education before graduation (BLS.gov, 2012 ). Whether working with disabled veterans in a group home, or foster children in need of unique services, students who gain this supervised experience should slowly build their understanding of how to best accomplish their professional social work goals.

MSW programs: What to expect?

General coursework in MSW programs might include research and practice, psychopathology, ethical foundations, child welfare and more. Some degree programs may offer concentrations such as child and family services, health services, and management and planning.

Upon completing their MSW, students can choose to pursue their Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification. Typically, the LCSW requires two years or 3,000 hours of supervised clinical hours beyond those already completed through an MSW program (BLS.gov, 2012 ). Other LCSW requirements could include passing a state-administered exam or one offered by the Association of Social Work Boards. and possibly having prior Licensed Social Worker (LSW) certification.

National career and salary outlook for social workers

The BLS projects employment for social workers could grow by up to 25 percent nationally between 2010 and 2020, which is better than the national average growth for all occupations (14 percent). Demand is predicted to be even higher in two social work fields: health care as well as mental health and substance abuse. According to the BLS. the national median salary in 2011 for child, family and school social workers was $40,680, with the top ten percent earning up to $70,050 in 2011 and the lowest 10 percent earning up to $26,190 nationally in 2011.

The Phoenix Area provides culturally rich opportunities caring for American Indian/Alaska Native people. Here, you work with people who have close ties to the community and opportunities to learn about the rich traditions of the Phoenix Area Indian Tribes.

The Phoenix Area Nursing Program provides nursing services to 44 Native American tribes throughout Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. Nurses are the heartbeat of a hospital and clinic, and we do our best to keep our nurses’ hearts beating happily and well. We provide nursing services in settings ranging from small rural clinics, Ambulatory Care Health Centers to full service hospitals. The majority of the facilities are located on reservations. We have many opportunities for clinical nurses in Ambulatory Care, Medical/Surgical Units, and Family Care Units. Additionally, we have opportunities for experienced registered nurses in ICU, OR, Special Procedures Unit, PACU, OB, Float Pool and ED.

Evening nursing programs provide similar coursework to full-time day programs, but take longer to complete because class times are shorter. Kent State’s Accelerated Second Degree concentration is an option for second-degree students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in as few as 15 months.

Accelerated nursing students will need critical thinking skills, strong written and oral communication, and the time, support, and resources to commit to an intensive four or five-semester, full-time sequence.

3 Cohort Options

The College of Nursing offers three Accelerated Nursing Cohort options to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Each cohort option is distinct with different start dates and duration.

Admissions Requirements

Students are selected to the Accelerated Second Degree concentration based upon their cumulative GPA, science prerequisite GPA, and related coursework.

Adult Diploma Program

About the Program

  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old
  • Students must complete 24.0 credit hours; most required courses are worth 0.5 credit hour
  • Requires completion of at least two courses every six months (an extension may be granted if extenuating circumstances arise)
  • Students receive an official high school transcript upon completion
  • Students must complete a minimum of 3.0 credits through BYU Independent Study, regardless of credits earned at other schools.
  • Students must pass a basic skills assessment test (TABE 41: Test of Adult Basic Education) before securing a high school diploma. The TABE measures basic understanding of math, English, and reading and must be taken with a certified proctor. The test may be ordered over the phone by calling the Registration office at 1-800-914-8931 and paying a $10 registration fee. The test may be taken at any time during enrollment in the program, but must be passed before being eligible to receive a diploma.
  • Although the Adult Diploma Program is designed to be a four-year course of study, a student may complete the requirements in less time. High school credits that a student has earned from other schools, which are accredited by legitimate accrediting agencies, are generally transferable and may be applied toward meeting program requirements.

Students may benefit from the Adult High School Diploma Program if they:

  • Are no longer eligible to complete their high school education in a traditional high school setting
  • Are trying to complete their high school studies while working full time and/or raising a family
  • Travel frequently
  • Are homebound due to illness
  • Move often

Students should not apply to the Adult High School Diploma Program if they:

  • Are younger than 19 years of age
  • Are not a United States citizen or permanent United States resident
  • Are a Utah resident who has taken and passed the GED test after June 30, 2009

Note for Utah Residents: Utah residents who take and pass the GED test after June 30, 2009 are no longer eligible to apply for the Adult High School Diploma Program. The GED becomes their Utah High School Completion diploma. Current students who choose to take the GED and pass the test will be withdrawn from the program. Students who fail the test may apply to or remain in the Adult Diploma Program. This policy change does not affect those living in other states who either pass or fail the test.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) needs your help in halting a surge in the fraudulent marketing of medical discount cards. In these schemes, marketers typically represent that consumers will receive low-cost health insurance or medical benefits. In reality, consumers do not receive health insurance or any meaningful medical benefits. Instead, they receive a card that purports to provide discounted rates with medical providers. Consumers find that the promised discounted rates are illusory.

These bogus medical discount programs are marketed to consumers in a variety of ways, including illegal recorded telephone calls (robocalls), unsolicited faxes, radio and television ads, and web sites. Regardless of the medium, the ads often target seniors, claiming that the discount cards will supplement Medicare.

The FTC, which is the federal government’s consumer protection agency, brings federal court law enforcement actions to stop fraud and obtain refunds for consumers. If you have information about a medical discount card scheme, or learn of a victim of such a scheme, call the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 .

LPN programs are typically two-year, associate degree programs that can be completed either online or in a traditional classroom format. In order to work as an LPN, you’ll need to complete an accredited degree program as well as pass the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX-PN) exam, which candidates have to pass to obtain their license.

An LPN performs many of the same tasks of a medical assistant, but a medical assistant may not be a registered nurse. Each state has its own licensure and employment requirements. Many LPN programs are also offered online, or in a hybrid format that includes both on-site and in traditional classrooms. This makes it easier to continue working or fulfill other obligations while pursuing your degree.

By becoming an LPN, you ll be in a good position to continue your education in the healthcare industry. You ll have the background and skill set to succeed in a bachelor s degree program, and possibly a master s degree program, depending on your career goals. Buffalo Valley has been providing affordable alcohol/substance abuse treatment to patients in need for about 30 years now. Of those 30 years, I have had the privilege of directing that treatment for over 18 years. I am happy to say, more than 1,200 patients a year find their way to our doors. I am even happier to report that half of those are still sober a year later.

In the last 10 years our treatment modality has included job training, job placement assistance, GED training, life skills training, case management, housing and, of course, state of the art counseling to those most in need.

14 years ago, recognizing the great need for housing, we started another division in BVI called Valley Housing. Valley Housing has been very successful in offering affordable housing across middle Tennessee.

M.S. Industrial/Organizational Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE

The Master of Science Degree in Industrial & Organizational Psychology provides a comprehensive slate of I/O-specific courses designed to prepare students for immediate entry into careers in applied settings. Academic coursework is supplemented with an applied externship completed for academic credit. The program requirements provide excellent preparation for those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. upon completion of the MS. The course of study also includes a strong, five-course quantitative sequence in research methodology, statistics, and measurement. I/O students are expected to become competent in theory, research, and application of psychology as each relates to human behavior in private and public organizations.

The primary objective of the industrial/organizational program is to provide students with the skills to apply the principles and methods of psychology to organizations, public and private, and to settings where people are engaged in work. To be successful in this application, the graduate must have developed knowledge and appreciation of psychological theory and research as they apply to organizations and people at work, and mastery of the measurement and research technologies which are commonly used in the discipline.

Externship Program

The externship program is currently under the direction of Dr. Ken Shultz. The standard externship experience is at least half-time work over a three-month period. It is typically completed during the summer after the first year’s coursework. Southern California’s urban areas provide a wealth of opportunities for hands-on experience. Students have completed externships with such organizations as Sempra (Southern California Gas Company), The Los Angeles Unified School District, the Betty Ford Center, Edison International, and Fleetwood Enterprises. We believe the externship experience is a major contributing factor to the marketability of our graduating students.

Student Programs

Dr. Mark Agars is the current faculty sponsor of the I/O student group “Students Promoting Industrial/Organizational Psychology” (SPI/OP). SPI/OP hosts guest speaker presentations on compelling themes in human resource management. Through committee work, newsletter contributions, and interaction with business student organizations, active members can develop connections with regional business organizations and can become a part of the SPI/OP network of future I/O professionals.

Selected I/O students also contribute their time and energies to a mentoring program for new undergraduate students. Dr. Agars is the current director of our student mentoring program. Upon selection, entering students are assigned to a second-year student who can provide information and advice.

The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program prepares students to become instructional leaders in public and non-public schools, state agencies, and new entrepreneurial ventures. Students gain a deep understanding of the context of American education from anthropological, historical, and sociological perspectives, and of the central elements of instructional, organizational, public, and evidenced-based leadership. Students develop a variety of qualitative and quantitative analytical skills that are required to identify, understand, and assess evidence on educational problems.

Through their coursework, students come to understand the dynamics of change, to appreciate the importance of resistance, and to value the human side of all educational enterprises. They draw from all this knowledge to wrestle with the complexities involved in promoting the ongoing transformation of public and non-public educational organizations. Students seeking principal certification have the option of enrolling in the School Leadership Program for Principal Certification, a five-course program, as part of their doctoral work.

Ed.D. applicants are expected to have several years of experience in educational practice. Incoming students are also expected to hold a master’s degree in a relevant field prior to enrolling.

Students organize their coursework and experiences around three areas or strands – Content and Conceptualization, Inquiry and Investigation, and Professional Experiences – and, within this, take a minimum of 12 courses. These include a set of core courses, research methods courses, specialization courses, and electives. All Ed.D. students take part in courses and seminars specifically designed for Ed.D. students across GSE.

The Ed.D. program has a strong commitment to educational practice and to preparing scholar-practitioners. Students develop a program of study in consultation with an advisor. The program is designed to draw together course work, research apprenticeship, and other professional academic activities to build a complete professional program that is tailored to individual students’ interests and needs.

Penn GSE also offers the Midcareer Doctoral Program in Education Leadership for students who are interested in an executive style program.

Registration: Full-time students enroll in 3 course units (CUs) each semester for the first two years. Full-time Ed.D. students are expected to be in residence and participate in practicum activities, courses, and other academic experiences throughout the first two years. Part-time students must complete a residency requirement that involves taking at least four courses in two consecutive semesters.

Research Apprenticeship Course (RAC): The RAC is part of the Professional Experiences strand and is designed to assist doctoral students in developing, conducting, and presenting on their own original research. The course focuses on students’ research interests and requires participation in the scheduling of activities, presentations, and directing part of the RAC agenda as it pertains to the collective needs of the group. Students from the different stages of the doctoral program will serve as mentors to one another, with faculty oversight. Students participate in the RAC beginning in the spring of their first year and continue participation until completion of their dissertation.

Professional Experiences strand (minimum):

  • EDUC 621 (Doctoral Proseminar)
  • Research Apprenticeship Course (RAC) – On-going professional experience from second semester of first year until graduation

Milestones

Annual Self-Evaluation: Each year, doctoral students complete a Professional Self-evaluation that is used as part of the ongoing evaluation and planning process. Students are introduced to the evaluation form in the proseminar and will work on it in the spring RAC. The deadline for the Professional Self-evaluation deadline falls in mid-autumn or mid-spring. Students submit their Professional Self-evaluation to the Division Manager and to their advisor.

Qualifying Examination: The Qualifying Examination is taken by all doctoral students, most often at the end of the first year. Passing this exam is an important step in being admitted to program candidacy. In order to take the qualifying exam, students need to have completed EDUC 621 (Doctoral Proseminar); EDUC 726 (formerly EDUC 664) (Doctoral Foundations of Teaching and Learning); EDUC 727 (formerly EDUC 646) (Education, Culture, and Society); 1 RAC; and 1 research methods course.

Program Candidacy: Students are assessed for program candidacy after successfully completing EDUC 621, EDUC 726 (formerly EDUC 664), EDUC 727 (formerly EDUC 646), 1 RAC, and 1 research methods course, and passing the Qualifying Examination. Students must be in good academic standing to receive program candidacy.

Preliminary Examination: The Preliminary Examination is taken after students have completed all courses and before beginning work on their dissertation. Passing the Preliminary Exam allows students to be admitted to doctoral candidacy. Students may submit a Preliminary Exam from the start of the fall semester through April 1. Students may obtain a description of the Preliminary Exam from the Division Coordinator.

Dissertation: To complete the Ed.D. students must design and undertake an original research study under the direction of a student-selected dissertation committee. Students should see GSE and Penn-wide policies, listed on the website, and speak with their advisor about the requirements of the dissertation.

Submission Guidelines for The Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting

The Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting (JLNC) . a refereed publication, is the official journal of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC). We invite interested nurses and allied professionals to submit article queries or manuscripts that educate and inform our readership about current practice methods, professional development, and the promotion of legal nurse consulting within the medical-legal community. Manuscript submissions are peer-reviewed by professional LNCs with diverse professional backgrounds.

We particularly encourage first-time authors to submit manuscripts. The editor will provide writing and conceptual assistance as needed.

Please follow these instructions for articles submitted for consideration .

  • Manuscript length: 1500 4000 words
  • Use Word format only (.doc or .docx)
  • Submit only original manuscript not under consideration by other publications
  • Put the title and page number in a header on each page (using the Header feature in Word)
  • Use Times New Roman 12 point
  • Place author name, contact information, and article title on a separate title page, so author name can be blinded for peer review
  • Text: Use APA style (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition) (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ )

Instructions for Art, Figures, Tables, Links

  • All photos, figures, and artwork should be in JPG or PDF format (JPG preferred for photos). Line art should have a minimum resolution of 1000 dpi, halftone art (photos) a minimum of 300 dpi, and combination art (line/tone) a minimum of 500 dpi.
  • Each table, figure, photo, or art should be submitted as a separate file attachment, labeled to match its reference in text, with credits if needed (e.g. Table 1, Common nursing diagnoses in SCI; Figure 3, Time to endpoints by intervention, American Cancer Society, 2003)

Instructions for Permissions

The author must accompany the submission with written release from:

  • Any recognizably identified facility or patient/client, for the use of their name or image
  • Any recognizable person in a photograph, for unrestricted use of the image
  • Any copyright holder, for copyrighted materials including illustrations, photographs, tables, etc.
  • All authors must disclose any relationship with facilities, institutions, organizations, or companies mentioned in their work

Acceptance will be based on the importance of the material for the audience and the quality of the material, and cannot be guaranteed.

All accepted manuscripts are subject to editing, which may involve only minor changes in grammar, punctuation, paragraphing, etc. However, some editing may involve condensing or restructuring the narrative. Authors will be notified of extensive editing. Authors will approve the final revision for submission.

The author, not the Journal, is responsible for the views and conclusions of a published manuscript.

The author will assign copyright to JLNC upon acceptance of the article. Permission for reprints or reproduction must be obtained from AALNC and will not be unreasonably withheld.

Academic Programs

Beginning in the summer of 2016 Columbia Nursing introduced an innovative, accelerated curriculum for non-nurse college graduates. Our new fifteen-month Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program prepares students to enter the nursing profession as masters-credentialed registered nurses with a focus on care coordination. Those graduating from the MDE program possess the ability provide a high level of care throughout a variety of healthcare settings. Students are able to move from this program directly into one of the two doctoral programs, the clinical Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP), or the research-based Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD).

The Master of Science degree advances nursing competence by extending and deepening knowledge within a specific clinical specialty. The program prepares students to manage and negotiate healthcare delivery systems, provide culturally sensitive care, cultivate the nurse/patient relationship, as well as, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate personalized patient education and coaching interventions. This program will be replaced by the post-bachelor’s DNP program starting in June 2017 for all specialties except Anesthesia.

Post-Bachelor’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (post-BS DNP) Programs

Beginning in the summer of 2017, Columbia Nursing will introduce the Post-Bachelor’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program for registered nurses interested in advanced practice. The Post-BS DNP is a 3 year, full-time program that includes a clinical residency. This program prepares students as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in an area of specialty. Students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for comprehensive care with patients across sites and over time, while also serving as leaders, educators, and innovators in the profession.

Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (post-MS DNP) Programs

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program prepares nurse clinicians to conduct complex diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, make use of sophisticated informatics and decision-making technology, and assimilate in-depth knowledge of the biophysical, psychosocial, behavioral, and clinical sciences. In addition, the DNP program prepares nurses with the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for fully accountable comprehensive care with patients across sites and over time. With the increasing scope of clinical scholarship in nursing and the growth of scientific knowledge in the discipline, doctoral level education is required for independent practice.

The PhD program is a research-intensive curriculum that prepares nurse scholars to conduct research independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams. The program provides students with an understanding of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of nursing science, and a strong foundation in research methods (design, statistics, measurement) for clinical, translational and health services research.

The sub-specialty programs are available to current students enrolled in an MS or DNP program.

If you a Registered Nurse (RN) holding an Associate s or Bachelor s degree seeking to advance your career by becoming an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or by moving into a Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, Nurse Executive, or Nurse Leader role in professional nursing practice and patient-centered healthcare delivery then pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is a logical next step. An MSN degree is also a logical stepping stone if you plan to later pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing.

Campus, Online, and Hybrid MSN Programs

Colleges and universities offering graduate degrees in nursing deliver their programs in a variety of formats. There are three main delivery methods: fully campus-based, fully online, and hybrids. Often times, a given school offers multiple delivery methods to students. They do this primarily to accommodate the students diverse scheduling flexibility needs since many who are seeking an MSN are already employed at least part-time, if not full-time, as a Registered Nurse.

There are two major components required when earning a nursing Master s degree: the coursework and clinical hours. How these two components are delivered to graduate students can vary widely between schools. So you will want to get clarification on the delivery methods offered by each school of interest to you.

It is rare today to find fully campus-based graduate nursing programs where all coursework and clinical hours must be obtained on campus, though programs leading to certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist are often, if not always, campus-based. It was once rare to find fully online programs as well, though these programs are becoming more common. The vast majority of MSN programs available today utilize a hybrid delivery model where the majority of coursework can be completed online; however, students are still required to visit the college or university s campus infrequently for the completion of certain requirements.

The campus visits required by hybrid programs are often limited to once or twice per semester. Some programs may require visits once per month or even more often. Some programs may offer the required visits on weekends. Others may require them on weekdays. Some visits may be single day visits while others might require 2 or 3 consecutive days, depending on the requirement being fulfilled. These are all questions that you will want clarified when researching potential programs.

Clinical Hours for a Masters in Nursing

Graduate students working toward their Master of Science in Nursing are typically required to complete a significant number of hours working in a clinical setting. Depending on the school and program in question, it is not uncommon for students to be required to complete as many as 500 or 700 hours of clinical work. Certain programs like those leading to certification as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist might require far more hours of clinical work.

Where a student s clinical hours can be completed might also vary widely from program to program. Some programs allow students to complete their clinical hours in any state where they are licensed as an RN. Others might require the student to be licensed as an RN and complete that work in the same state (or neighboring state) as where the college or university is located. This is another item for which you will want to gain clarification when researching potential programs.

Before starting your clinical hours, you will choose clinical preceptors to supervise your work. Preceptors typically have to be approved by the school offering the program. Students are often allowed to perform their clinicals in their own workplace unless the course for which they are performing the clinical work also requires that it be done in a particular type of clinical setting.

Opportunities for MSN Graduates

There are many reasons students might seek an advanced degree in nursing. But regardless of the track being pursued, MSN degree holders could be prepared for great career opportunities in clinical nursing.

This classic lesson shows that if we can swallow our pride, have some humility and begin to take proper action that God will not make too tough a time for us. In fact he will meet us half way and take us back into his house and restore our life.

Conestoga recognizes prior learning of skills, knowledge or competencies that have been acquired through employment, formal and informal education, non-formal learning or other life experiences. Prior learning must be measurable at the required academic level and meet Conestoga standards of achievement for current courses. Challenge exams and portfolio development are the primary methods of assessment. Other methods of assessment may be available depending upon the nature of the course objectives. Successful completion of the assessment results in an official course credit that will be recorded on the student s Conestoga transcript. PLAR cannot be used by registered Conestoga students for the clearance of academic deficiencies, to improve grades or to obtain admission into a program.
