Airline travel buying guide

Getting started

High fares. Hidden fees. Long security lines. Shrinking seats. Crowded cabins. There’s not much to enjoy about airline travel these days, especially if you’re sitting in coach, according to readers in our airline survey, conducted this summer by the Consumer Reports National Research Center.

More than 14,000 coach passengers and some 6,000 first-class passengers who took a domestic nonstop flight told us their opinions about their airline’s seat width and comfort, legroom, room for carry-on bags, cabin and restroom cleanliness, check-in ease, service from the airline staff, in-flight entertainment, and transparency about fees.

You’ll have a more comfortable trip without springing for an upgrade if you fly with the airline at the top of our coach Ratings: JetBlue. It earned a higher score than any other airline for its coach cabin’s seat comfort and legroom.

JetBlue, Southwest, and Virgin America received favorable Ratings for their check-in, their staff service, and upfront disclosure about their fees. Passengers dinged Southwest and Virgin America, however, for their cramped and uncomfortable seats. Yet apart from JetBlue, all coach services rate poorly in these areas.

When it comes to first-class travel, Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines earned an exceptional overall score. Virgin was the real stand out, however, with top marks across the board. Hawaiian and Alaska (with the exception of its average in-flight entertainment) also received high marks in the rated areas.

See our Travel & Vacation Guide for advice and tips on getting the best deals on airfare, hotels, and more.

Can you find comfort in coach?

Overall, people in our survey had a pretty dim view of the U.S. airline industry’s domestic coach service. Amenities rated as particularly poor include seating, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment. In fact, apart from Southwest’s especially high score on fee transparency, no airline received a top mark on any of the attributes we measured.

Even the highly rated coach carriers received a few below-average marks. JetBlue passengers were unenthusiastic about its food and refreshments. People flying on Southwest gave its seat comfort, legroom, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment a big thumbs-down. Passengers had a mixed range of views about hidden fees, but they gave the airlines in the top half of our Ratings much better scores than the carriers that landed below.

The three U.S. airlines that control about 65 percent of the domestic market–American, Delta, and United–placed from the middle to the back of the pack for their coach service.

Two airlines made their debut in our Ratings this year: Sun Country and Allegiant. Sun Country was formed in 1982 by a group of pilots and flight attendants from the defunct Braniff International. The airline now travels to 34 destinations in the U.S. Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. Allegiant, which took off in 1997, travels to 112 destinations in the U.S. including Laredo, Texas; Grand Island, Nebraska; Ogden, Utah; Missoula, Montana; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Peoria, Illinois, and other smaller cities.

The lowest-rated coach carrier in our survey was Spirit. It received low marks on all the aspects we measured, and was significantly worse than every other airline in terms of overall satisfaction. In fact, its overall satisfaction score is among the lowest for any service we’ve ever rated.

Disparities in first class

Three airlines stood out for first class: Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines. Virgin America earned top marks across the board. Last year the airline added free hors d’oeuvres in first class to its traditional after-takeoff cocktail service, as well as hot towels, table linens, and a custom ice cream flavor developed in collaboration with San Francisco’s Humphry Slocombe.

Hawaiian Airlines received favorable scores in every category, as does Alaska Airlines with the exception of its in-flight entertainment.

Much like coach class, however, passengers who flew with our lower-rated first class carriers were a lot less happy. Not only were United and US Airways first-class travelers significantly less satisfied overall than the travelers on every other airline that qualified for our first-class Ratings, but they were also significantly less satisfied than the coach travelers on the top six carriers in our coach Ratings.

Both were viewed as especially bad for cabin and restroom cleanliness, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment. (Note: US Airways took its last flight under its name this year on October 17, and is now fully merged with American.)

How to land the best fare

Work the Web

Almost all of our survey respondents who booked their own flights did so on airline websites. While the airlines sometimes post great fares on their sites, you might be able to find lower prices elsewhere.

Start with websites that allow you to compare the deals from multiple airlines, such as Airfarewatchdog, FareCompare, and Kayak. Also try travel-agency sites, such as CheapTickets, Expedia, and Travelocity.

If you’re a bit more adventurous, websites such as Hotwire and Priceline are another option. Hotwire has set prices, while Priceline lets you bid on tickets. Neither indicates which airline you’ll be flying or whether your flight is nonstop until you’ve bought your nonrefundable ticket. To bid on Priceline, first check what other sites charge for a flight you want and then bid 50 percent less, suggests George Hobica, founder and editor of Airfarewatchdog.

Finally, before you book a flight you’ve found online, check the airline’s site. You might see more flight choices for a similar rate.

Business VoIP Reviews and Ratings

What Should I Look for in a Business VoIP Review?

Consumers should research and compare VoIP providers before signing up for a plan.

First off, we vet all our reviews closely. We adhere rigorously to our submission guidelines. so you can research with confidence.

That being said, there are still some things you should consider when reading reviews on business VoIP providers .

  1. How many reviews the provider has.
  2. The total number of stars.
  3. How the provider ranks over time.
  4. The individual ratings.
  5. Percentage of recommendations from users.

Most of the reviews are for Hosted VoIP providers. Hosted VoIP is the most common application of VoIP technology. With Hosted VoIP, a business owner leases access to a VoIP provider’s VoIP servers and calling network in exchange for being able to call on the phone. It is also sometimes referred to as Hosted PBX or Cloud Communications .

Since VoIP companies provide a service. it’s important to know how well they deliver. That’s why we’re here: to give you business VoIP reviews and hosted VoIP reviews from real VoIP users.

All VoIP Provider Reviews in One Location

VoipReview has Hundreds of user-submitted reviews to make comparing VoIP providers easy.

Older, more established providers have more reviews than newer VoIP companies. This doesn’t mean that the new companies are worse or that the old companies are better. That’s why we have included a graph of the user’s average rating over time for individual providers. This way, users can see how a provider has performed over time .

However, you can feel more comfortable with your decision should you choose a provider with more reviews – we understand this.

Using our user reviews can be a great way to get insider knowledge on providers. They’re also a great way through which you can share your VoIP experience. Be sure to contribute your review today!

How Are Reviews Compiled on VoipReview?

Users like you rate VoIP providers on sound quality, reliability, features, customer service, and price.

We allow users to rate and review their business VOIP provider with 5 criteria. We then combine these scores into one overall rating to spit out the overall star rating for each of the SIP-enabled, virtual pbx, or hosted VoIP review:

Basically, people have given their opinion of the providers in regards to these five categories. The higher the specific category is rated, the better that reviewers opinion of the VoIP company’s service. Makes sense, right?

Reviewers have the ability to add a ‘would recommend’ or ‘would not recommend’ suggestion to their reviews. On providers with many older reviews, these statistics can be a bit skewed; but on providers with newer reviews, these are a great, quick way to see our community’s overall opinion.

Write your own Business VoIP review

Contribute your VoIP experience today!

Do you have a personal experience to share about one of our VoIP providers? Let us know. Your reviews are used to rate these business VoIP providers, and help others make their VoIP selection.

Find the provider you’d like to review with our search function or by using one of our compare tables. Click on the “Review” links on the VoIP provider’s page and register your account – after that, add your review!

Please keep in mind that each user gets to add one review per provider.

Drug Ratings for XARELTO

Joint pain, itching, hoarseness

I was prescribed Xarelto after an ankle fusion to prevent clots (run in the family, no movement in leg for 3 months). I’m really disappointed with the extra joint pain, when I just had surgery to correct the pain I am having from severe osteo-arthritis. Overall, I guess the medicine is effective, does its job, but the side effects suck. Period.

I was put on Xarelto for provoked blood clots in my leg that went to my lungs. I just had my 1 month checkup and Dr. said the clots look good. So the drug worked on that. But let me tell you the hell I went through. 3 weeks of the worst joint pain I have ever had. I could only walk if I had to. And my knees would not bend. My knees bend about 90 degrees now but being unable to walk for three weeks left me with a lot of muscle lose. I can walk with a cane and the muscles are getting stronger but please don’t put yourself through this. If you feel joint pain talk to your doctor and try something else. You should know in a day or two.

Uncontrollable jerking, drop in BP, general feeling of illness.

Research shows it can cause internal bleeding for which they have no antidote as other blood thinners have. US families successful prosecution for killing family members. Stopped it for several days and felt much better. GP insists it’s okay. He is wrong.

5 weeks
25mg 1X D

hives/rash around torso, under arms, crook of elbow, lower back, thighs with intense itching, seems to make my skin extremely sensitive, can’t even have bedsheet on me. stomach feels sore, headaches, and tired feeling

am taking less and less of this drug to wean myself off w/o any bad effects, now taking every other day and soon bye-bye Xarelto

3 months
20MG 1X D

Multiple idiopathic DVT and 2 PEs

At first, the 20 mg elevated my creatinine in my blood when I had routine blood work done. I dropped down to 15 mg and levels went down to normal range.

A Godsend. Was on Coumadin for 5 years and was never therapeutic and actually had 4 more blood clots in my calves while in Coumadin in 5 years while on that rat poison. Xarelto has been great. Never had a blood on Xarelto (knock on wood) No side effects at all other than always being cold, which I had on Coumadin, as well. So thankful for this drug. No monthly (or more) testing and always therapeutic and no diet restrictions! It’s about time they made something better and less antiquated than Coumadin!

I have terrible muscle and joint aches, gained weight yet have no appetite, extreme fatigue and brain fog. Until I started taking this medication, I was an active and healthy 40 y/o however I found out I suffer from MTHFR, which is a genetic condition which causes my blood to clot, and ever since I have felt as though my body is at least 20 years older than it is. My doctor doesn’t seem to listen or care about my side effects. I’ve never been sick in my life and now I feel like I have the flu every single day.

I wish I never would’ve started this medication and have requested my doctor put me on something different however he is reluctant to do so.

clotting, factor v leiden, lupus

Bruises take a long time to heal, but what do you expect! And I don’t really cut or injure myself, so that’s not a problem.

I LOVE XARELTO. I didn’t want to go on a blood thinner at all and this option was perfect for me to get started. Coumadin, that rat poison, was off the table. Now, I did have a couple of “episodes” called TIAs while on Xarelto because I hate taking medicine and would forget to take my pill. for instance, one weekend, took it Thursday night, didn’t take it Friday night or Saturday night, then took it at 10pm Sunday night, got up Monday morning for work and at 8am had an incapacitating TIA. You definitely have to take it right. ER doctors hate this drug for some reason. My husband would tell them I take Xarelto and they’d trash the drug bc there I was proof it didn’t work. Of course when I came around I didn’t own up to not taking it properly. I’m sorry Xarelto. I did fess up with my regular doctors though. My doctors warned me about riding roller coasters, etc. but I did anyways, never had any problems. It is a great drug and like taking a placebo. No issues at all.

prevent blood clots

I think they were 15 mg. I developed a rash and itching so my doc told me to stop taking it, but the rash and itching continued and became very severe. All over legs, feet, hands and arms. Doctor was treating with prednisone and benadryl with no relief. When it spread to my back after 7 weeks (by this time I was horrible looking, red welts, itching so bad I couldn’t sleep) I went to a dermatologist who said it was from Xarelto, it has a long half life or something, gave me a huge shot of steroids and a prescription, steroid lotions and it finally went away. I will never touch this med again, I suffered.

3 days
15 mg 2X D

I took Coumadin for one year after embolisms back in 2010. The INR testing was a pain but lived to tell about it. Been on xarelto for 2 months and am miserable. Terrible joint and muscle pain, leg swelling, weights gain, insomnia! I can’t live like this so will revert to Coumadin.

Intense headaches (AND I never get headaches) intense muscle aches, intense joint pain. Pain in muscles and joints had become crippling.

I had to take Gavipentin and Norco in an attempt to stifle the pain caused by this drug, which provided some relief, but I shouldn’t have to take drugs to try to cancel out the negative effects of this drug. I have discontinued the drug and never want to go back to it. It was sheer hell of Xarelto.

2 months
30 1X D

More bang for your buck

I was not impressed or disgusted enough to leave a comment on this film. So why am I typing now? I saw this was in the bottom 100 here on IMDB. It wasn’t that bad. Actually I enjoyed it, but I was in the mood to not think and just watch stuff blow up (having a bad day). That’s what I got. Lots and lots of explosions, and fun action, there were more explosions then dialouge. There is some plot here, but don’t watch this for realism or story. It’s a cartoon, a video game, just mindless action and entertainment, and thats why its worth seeing and doesn’t belong on the bottom 100.

It doesn’t come close to being a must see action flick (see the first 2 Lethal Weapons, Die Hard, Escape from New York or dozens of others), but it’s not that bad.

The packages range from Economy, Deluxe, Premium, Value Deal, Power Player and Storage Monster, depending on the types of services that you require.

Bandwidth ranges widely from 500GB / month (Economy) to 3,000GB / month (Premium) that allow you to use and maintain the amount of data that you need to upload and run on your site

The Economy and Value Deal packages offer 2GB RAM for the modest user, while the others offer 4GB RAM, except the 64 bit options, which offer a full 8GB RAM.

Year round you are backed by 24/7 support. They maintain their servers, keeping a watchful eye over your website to ensure that any and all threats are caught before they can do any damage.

Not only do they offer security support, but they also offer 24/7 phone support for all your hosting questions, comments or concerns

All the dedicated server plans that GoDaddy offers come with these perks on top of the service you are getting: Up to $129.93 in Google Adwords Credit, $103.95 Bing / Yahoo Search Credit, $51.97 Facebook Advertising Credit, SSL Certificate, 3 dedicated IP Addresses, 10 Fotolia Credits and Bandwidth Overage Protection

Their plans offer the operating systems Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora and Windows so that you have a wide array of places to start from

In addition to having both Linux and Windows plans and packages offered, they also have 64 bit plans that allow for the best possible performance and even up to 8 GB RAM. These packages give you up to 2, 64 GB solid-state drives for all your memory needs and an allowable 3,000 GB per month for bandwidth.

All of GoDaddy s servers are protected with Tipping Point Intrusion Protection Systems. An advanced piece of software that constantly scans packages and determines whether they are malicious or perceived as a threat. The filters are updated on a regular basis to ensure that the most up-to-date protection is offered.

Prices range from #65.47 / month (Economy) up to $280.65 /month (Premium) on a 12 month contract. The longer you sign up for, the better the deal will get. 1, 6, 12 and 24 month contracts are available for the deal that you think will be best. Their 64 bit package pricing ranges from $187.09 to $392.92 / month on a 12 month commitment. Longer term commitments are available if you should require better deals

GoDaddy seems to have you covered when it comes to getting the best deal of the day. As opposed to other hosting companies, GoDaddy allows you to install almost anything on the server and run it, provided it s not malicious, host different websites on just one account and a dedicated server that has very versatile uses like gaming, virtual hosting and high-traffic websites. Whether you are the micro-business or individual just looking for a dedicated server, GoDaddy is worth being considered before you make your selection.

Exxon Mobil Corp.

  • Jul. 21, 2017 at 4:56 a.m. ET

Exxon Mobil was fined $2 million by the Treasury Department for violating Ukraine-related sanctions – when the company s CEO was Rex Tillerson, now the U.S. secretary of state. The Office of Foreign Assets Control said the presidents of its U.S. subsidaries signed legal contracts with Igor Sechin, the president of Rosneft. Exxon says the fine was fundamentally unfair and that it followed the clear guidance from the White House and Treasury Department because the activity related to Rosneft s business and not Sechin s personal business. (Updates to include Exxon s reaction.)

U.S. stocks opened higher on Wednesday, after Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen, in prepared congressional testimony, said interest rate increases would be gradual and that they wouldn t need to rise much further. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 82 points, or 0.4%, to 21,497. The S P 500 added 10 points to 2,436, a gain of 0.4%. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 46 points to 6,240, a rise of 0.8%. Stocks have been supported by low rates over the past several years, and abrupt changes to that environment could lead to volatility in equities. Also boosting stocks was the energy sector, which gained alongside a 2% jump in the price of crude oil. Among the biggest gainers, Chesapeake Energy Corp. added 1.7% while Exxon Mobil Corp. was up 0.8%.

U.S. stocks ended mostly higher Wednesday in post-holiday trade, powered by gains in technology, health-care and financial shares. Trading marked the first full session in July and follows holiday-shortened trade on Monday, with markets closed Tuesday in observance of Independence Day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished flat at 21,479, the S P 500 index climbed 0.2% to finish at 2,433. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite Index. enjoyed the best performance among the benchmarks on the day, advancing 0.7% at 6,150, after closing in the red in the past three sessions. A popular tech-fund, the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF. ended 0.9% higher. Bears have fretted that brisk gains in the tech sector have left it vulnerable to a selloff. Wednesday s moves follow a release of minutes at 2 p.m. Eastern from the Federal Reserve, which signaled the central bank s intention to start to shrink its $4.5 trillion balance sheet as early as September. Reducing its balance sheet, accumulated during the 2008- 09 financial crisis, can serve as an additional tightening as the Fed aims to normalize monetary policy. Meanwhile, U.S. crude-oil prices settled more than 4% lower, snapping an 8-session rally. Lower oil prices weighed on energy-related stocks, including Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp. In corporate news, shares of Tesla Inc. tumbled into correction territory in the wake of downbeat deliveries data. Shares ended down 7.2%.

A popular exchange-traded fund used to bet on the energy sector on Tuesday was looking at its worst daily decline in more than three months, according to FactSet data. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF was down 2.2% in recent trade, putting it on pace to log its steepest drop since March 8, when it plunged 2.6%. The slump in the energy-focused ETF was led by sharp drops in Transocean Ltd. Hess Corp. and Marathon Oil Corp. which were down at least 4%. All of the index s components were trading in the red, in early trade. The decline for the sector comes as crude-oil prices sink to a seven-month low and are flirting with a close in bear-market territory, defined as a fall of at least 20% from a recent peak. Crude s slump was putting pressure on the S P 500 index. with the energy sector the worst performer among the benchmark s 11 sectors, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was lower, weighed by a 1.6% decline in shares of Chevron Corp. and a 1.3% fall in shares of Exxon Mobil Corp.

2009 Honda Fit Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos – The

2009 Honda Fit Review

  • Excellent steering and maneuverability
  • Upmarket interior
  • Astonishing cargo and back-seat space
  • Secure, substantial feel on the road
  • Good crash safety relative to rivals

Dislikes

  • Unimpressive highway fuel economy
  • Tall, stubby design is still far from sexy

The all-new 2009 Honda Fit’s appearance might not be pulse-quickening, but with a peppy fun-to-drive character, an astonishing amount of interior space, and a high-quality feel throughout, it’s close to the perfect affordable small car.

As the automotive experts at TheCarConnection.com assembled this comprehensive review, covering the 2009 Honda Fit, they looked to a number of other well-respected critical voices. To make the review as useful as possible, TheCarConnection.com’s editors included their own firsthand experience putting the new Honda Fit through the paces.

The 2009 Honda Fit, a small five-door hatchback and Honda’s lowest-priced U.S. model, has been completely redesigned for 2009. The new Honda Fit is about the same length and width as the standard Honda Civic was when it was last offered in the U.S. as a three-door hatchback (the 2000 model year), yet the five-door Fit is significantly roomier inside due to its tall, upright body style.

The Fit’s proportions make it look more like a scaled-down minivan in some respects, but that’s an indication as to why the five-passenger hatchback has such a spacious interior. The new 2009 Honda Fit gets a more aerodynamic, better-detailed look than the outgoing model on the outside. The windshield has been angled forward, and the roofline flows more smoothly as a result; complementing that is a pair of character lines that run from the snout through the grille and hood. Small side windows ahead of the front doors aid visibility.

Inside, the rakish windshield yields a vast expanse ahead of the instrument panel that translates to an airy feel in front. The instrument panel itself in the 2009 Honda Fit is anything but basic in appearance, with a swoopy, offset two-tiered appearance. The sound system and climate controls are angled toward the driver, along with the navigation screen if so equipped, and the mix of textured and matte-metallic plastic surfaces, along with simple but sturdy upholstery and trim, gives the impression of higher quality than other cars priced in the same range.

“Big on the inside” is how Honda describes the interior. That’s an accurate assessment, as there’s plenty of headroom throughout and a very space-efficient seat design in back. The so called Magic Seat now folds flat by lifting a single lever and pushing the seatback forward, with no need to remove rear headrests in the process; back-seat space are surprisingly commodious, with enough headroom and legroom in back for adults, and the cargo floor is especially low for easy loading and an impressive 20.6 cubic feet of EPA cargo room. Attention to details helps make the 2009 Honda Fit feel all the more space-efficient; there are now two glove compartments (upper and lower), along with many useful storage compartments and cubbies in the center console, dash, and doors, and plenty of cupholders.

The front-wheel-drive Fit is powered by a 1.5-liter, i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower. Performance is quite peppy with the standard five-speed manual and satisfactory with the optional five-speed automatic, which returns up to 29 mpg city, 35 highway. Though the 2009 Honda Fit is a little slower and noisier with the automatic, it actually gets better fuel economy as such; and Fit Sports with the automatic get paddle shifters alongside the steering wheel to aid control on curvy roads.

Steering and handling is a strong point for the 2009 Honda Fit; at low speeds Fit’s electric power steering and quick ratio lend a very responsive, tossable feel and parking ease, and the well-tuned suspension is firm yet absorbent. Despite the tall body and rather light weight, the Fit holds the road confidently at 80 mph, with surprisingly little engine and road noise.

The 2009 Honda Fit is offered in two primary specifications: Fit and Fit Sport. The base Fit comes with air conditioning, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and an MP3-compatible CD sound system, along with a telescopic steering wheel. The Fit Sport gets larger 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, keyless entry, a security system, and USB connectivity for the sound system, along with sporty cues throughout. A package adding the navigation system and electronic stability control is available on the Fit Sport.

The 2009 Honda Fit has not yet been crash tested, but it has an improved, more crashworthy ‘ACE’ body structure, according to Honda, and the outgoing Fit has been one of the best-performing small cars in tests from the federal government and IIHS. Side airbags and side-curtain bags are standard, along with anti-lock brakes. Electronic stability control, a feature that’s rare among inexpensive small cars, is now optional, though oddly only with the navigation system.

THE most versatile-use small car; the seat-folding is brilliant (and provides more useable space than much, much larger cars). Seats fold up, down, van-flat, and forwards; you can carry ‘awkward’ items; doors. THE most versatile-use small car; the seat-folding is brilliant (and provides more useable space than much, much larger cars). Seats fold up, down, van-flat, and forwards; you can carry ‘awkward’ items; doors open almost right-angles; 3-child-seat anchor-points; I think it’s 11X cup-holders (!); head-room is excellent (leg-room j-j-just fits me at 6-feet). Performance/handling; think: 1.5litre 4cylinder & tall car, electric steering, then. surprisingly good really, within those limits. Economy is close to advertised. Zero reliability issues. A well-cared-for, well-driven, no-accidents 2009 car would be perfect for a young family starting out, or a student with a hobby. Or a grandparents runabout with grandchildren. + More

    Invincible, imaginative, inspiring

Doctor Who just works. However you watch it, as a fan or casual viewer, there is something there for you; and if there s not, well, try a different era. It helps that it s got 52 years currently under its belt, and so there is and has been for a long time, an element of nostalgia to the show– recurring villains, references, companions or places/planets that get revisited just to please the people who ve been watching long enough. But that s not all there is to it: because every year, there s some kind of hidden gem of an episode that s a shining example of great television, along with the scary, funny, tense episodes we have all come to expect from this show. One of its strongest merits is its constant adaptability. There are different writers almost every week, different companions every other series, different doctors, different locations, directors, genres, threats and ideas. For every one abysmal episode (and there are a few of them), there are some absolutely stunning ones too. I d recommend Heaven Sent, Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Blink, The Pandorica Opens, A Good Man Goes to War, Asylum of the Daleks, Flatline, and The Day of the Doctor. It s a show that never dies. Of course, it will get cancelled at some point, maybe, just as it did before; and then it will live on. It will get picked up again. TV just isn t the same without it.

If you re new, it s best to start with some classic stand-alone stories to get into them. Maybe try a few from each series to work out who your favourite Doctor/companion combination are. Smith and Jones is a lovely episode to start with (it s where I started)–the season 3 opener, with a new, companion, a reintroduction to the Tenth Doctor, and a wholly entertaining episode. Other great places to start are Rose (although there s a lot of catching up to do), The Eleventh Hour (a completely brand new start– perfect if you know absolutely nothing about anything in the show), and Deep Breath (an introduction to the current Doctor, with a few entertaining characters who have already been in the show before). Generally, starting with a Series 1-4 episode will be much easier, with simpler stories, a new companion/Doctor each series, and some enjoyable, if upsetting, season finales. Series 6-9 are harder to start at, with characters carried over from previous seasons, and plot lines and mysteries also carried on with. The individual episodes within the seasons, however, need no foreknowledge at all: for Season 6, be sure to try The Doctor s Wife and The Girl Who Waited; Season 7, try Asylum of the Daleks, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Bells of St John; Season 8, try Flatline, Listen, or Kill the Moon; and Season 9, try The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived, The Zygon Invasion/Inversion; and Heaven Sent (which is absolutely incredible). It s a lot of episodes, which for some seems too much. For me, however, it s never enough.

    Storyline

It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family named Kevin got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin who now has the house all to himself. Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents’ bed, and making a mess. Then, Kevin discovers about two burglars, Harry and Marv, about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice. Written by John Wiggins

    Surreal and hilarious

Home Alone is one of the most popular movies from the early 90 s. Its success was phenomenal and it also made Macaulay Culkin a superstar.

The plot is quite original and surreal: a child who is home alone and capable of making the bandits s lives miserable? Sure, it s an impossible story, but who cares? Far from being a perfect movie, it is however okay and fun to watch, entertaining and contains slapstick humor too although I don t like some of the language used.

Our story takes place in Chicago at Christmas time, which makes this a Christmas film. In fact, the movie has lots of Christmas decorations, lights, snow and many other details which create the feeling and magic so characteristic of Christmas. To accent the Christmas atmosphere even more, there are a cup of nice Christmas carols such as Rockin Around the Christmas Tree (performed by Brenda Lee), You re a mean one, Mr. Grinch , White Christmas , Carol of the Bells , Oh Holly Night and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and some brilliant instrumental musics.

Kevin McCallister is the hero of the story. He s not just any kid, he s a very smart one. He also knows all about the intentions of the wet bandits Harry and Marv and prepares them lots of unexpected surprises . Their lives won t be easy with Kevin defending his house. Sure, they are the villains and as such they get what they deserve, but they do suffer a lot too. We almost feel sorry for them.

The wet bandits were nicknamed like that by Marv because their calling card (according to him) was to let the water running in every houses they robbed. That said, both wet bandits are hilarious. Harry is more cranky, while Marv is the most stupid of the two (although both are stupid) and maybe that s why people tend to sympathize more with him. Marv s stupidity also makes him the funniest of the two. Marv is the typical tall and clumsy guy with no brain, a bit like Averell Dalton from the Lucky Luke comics.

The movie has lots of funny moments. The funniest for me is when Harry and Marv pretend to be Santa Claus and his elf and the way Harry speaks in that scene, followed by the even funnier part when Kevin fires at Harry s pants. Whenever Kevin fools the bandits in a try to make them believe the whole family is at home when Kevin is all alone is funny too. For some reason, I also find funny whenever Kevin screams maniacally (particularly when he says he s not afraid anymore and sees Old Marley and screams out loud.

The scenes which Kevin fools and scares the Little Nero s Pizza boy and Marv with the gangster film Angels with Filthy Souls are hilarious, but in the case of the Pizza boy it is unfair for him. There was no need to scare the hell out of him – he was just delivering pizza and wasn t after Kevin.

Old Marley is an interesting character. I always felt sorry for him because of the lies Buzz tells about him. And the man never did anything bad to anyone. Buzz is a jerk and Uncle Frank is even worse. Buzz is mean for Kevin and Uncle Frank openly dislikes Kevin. When Uncle Frank tells Kevin Look what you did, you little jerk! , Kevin s parents should tell him something like Frank, stay out of this and shut up! .

The church is magnificent. It s one of the biggest and most beautiful churches I ve ever seen in a movie.

Macaulay Culkin is terrific as the clever kid Kevin McCallister. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are awesome as the wet bandits and Roberts Blossom is great as the character Old Marley. It s also delightful to see John Candy as Gus Polinski, the Polka King of the Midwest .

    Don t Misunderestimate this Film

Lefties expecting a hatchet-job will be as disappointed as Righties expecting a hatchet-job. Demonstrating decency and restraint far beyond what his subject is deserving of, Oliver Stone demonstrates rare wisdom and the hindsight of someone trying to understand this period of history from a standpoint of decades in the future. He creates a film that swings wildly between comedy and tragedy, tragi-comedy and comic tragedy in his portrait of a man who though born to privilege, needs to have greatness thrust upon him-and is not up to the task he seeks. It is. and I do not use this term lightly: Shakespearean.

Josh Brolin s Oscar-worthy performance manages two amazing feats: 1) He makes you forgot you are watching Josh Brolin as he portrays W. over a 40-year period and 2) He makes even a left-leaner like myself forget how much one may hate George W. Bush. I just wanted to yell at the screen ala Rocky Horror, You seem to be a nice guy who enjoys people. stay with baseball. All of the supporting cast of characters in the Bush Dynasty are handled with dignity and respect (particularly James Cromwell as Bush the First), and Stone is decent enough to leave the Bush Twins out of it. Jeffrey Wright might be up for a Best Supporting Actor nod for his thoughtful and restrained portrayal of Colin Powell.

I am racking my brain trying to remember when recent history was made into such a vital film; this is the antithesis to a quickie made-for-TV movie about Amy Fischer and the like.

    rehashed storyline creatively told

In reality, there are a finite amount of interesting story lines to tell. What makes one movie telling the same storyline more worthwhile to see is a combination of creative expression, in depth character development, superb acting, exquisite photography, and believability, or the ability to persuade the moviegoer to suspend disbelief.

How many times have we been exposed to a retelling of Shirley Temple’s Heidi, where a young non-related child falls into the life of an old curmudgeon, and teaches that curmudgeon to enjoy life and/or develop morals and values? Too many times for me, so I was reluctant to see this film. It would have been a shame had I not.

There are many creative twists and turns along the way to keep the suspense level up in this film. The photography in Rio is OK, but once out in the Brazilian countryside, it is fantastic. At the end of the film, there is little doubt but that the way this story turns out is how it would have had to turn out. The character development of Josue is a little weak, but that of Dora is superb. And you will see a lot of films before you will see an acting performance like Fernanda Montenegro’s as Dora again.

This movie thankfully is not overly sentimental, that would get in the way of the story, it is just a great film to watch and enjoy. 9 of 10.

    Compare Airlines – Reviews and Ratings #all #inclusive #travel

    Compare Airlines

Whether you’re flying domestic or international, the right airline can mean the difference between a terrible traveling nightmare and an enjoyable aviation experience. Most people try to find the flight with the cheapest price, but any glee over scoring the least expensive plane ticket can be quickly erased by unexpectedly hefty baggage fees, poor customer service, or detrimental delays. When selecting an airline, it is therefore imperative to research which carrier will provide the best service before, during, and after the flight.

    Cancelled

What to Watch for in Airlines

With flights, you often get what you pay for, so avoid selecting a carrier with extremely low prices unless you have low expectations. Airlines can generally be grouped into three categories: luxury, traditional, and low-cost.

Traditional airlines provide standard levels of service and decent amenities. They may have some restrictions and extra fees for baggage, but these are usually within a manageable price range. Some examples of traditional carriers are Alaska, American, Delta, United, and US Airways.

Low-cost airlines advertise cheap airfare, but this often comes with a price: poor customer service and a lack of amenities. In-flight meals are rare, and checking that extra large bag may induce a hefty premium. However, if you travel light and have low service expectations, it may be worth the savings. Examples of low-cost airlines are RyanAir, Frontier, JetBlue, and Southwest.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze (Chevy) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos –

    #

    2011 Chevrolet Cruze Review

    Dislikes

    • Conservative exterior
    • Awkwardly low climate controls
    • Doesn’t at all feel sporty

The 2011 Chevy Cruze certainly isn’t a car that will set your heart racing, but it manages to combine a refined ride quality and tactile interior with the no-nonsense, space-efficient packaging–all with good value for the money.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze starts a new small-car chapter for General Motors, replacing the Cobalt, which never quite earned the respect or ratings of segment leaders like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. However, the new Cruze is right up there with them—and arguably better in many respects.

The Ohio-built Cruze follows a global design that’s been fine-tuned for the United States. While it’s conservative on the outside, the interior makes a strong presentation, with rich materials and an upscale feel that’s on par with recent Volkswagen products. GM has borrowed some of the design cues from its larger Malibu sedan, and the Cruze’s cabin has an almost mid-size feel, with enough space for four adults (five in a pinch), plus excellent adjustability for drivers and a huge trunk.

Powertrains are completely new; a base 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine should perform reasonably well and return good fuel economy, but the star of the lineup is a new turbocharged 1.4-liter four that not only performs slightly better but gets higher EPA fuel economy numbers—up to 40 mpg highway in a new Cruze Eco model. A manual transmission is standard, though the modern six-speed automatic that’s available doesn’t sap performance like small-car automatics of the past. The Cruze rides and handles like a larger car, which is to say you probably won’t call it nimble or tossable, but its isolated cabin and absorbent ride will please most day-to-day users.

Small-car shoppers are becoming a demanding lot. In addition to more space efficiency and improved comfort and refinement, they all want the latest tech-savvy features and aren’t willing to skimp on the safety features. GM has recognized this with the Cruze, and Bluetooth and a USB port are offered on most models; there are a couple of navigation possibilities. GM expects top safety results as well from both U.S. testing authorities.

    Storyline

Adapted from William Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew,” 10 Things I Hate About You starts off with Cameron, new student at Padua High, sitting in the office of the quirky guidance counselor Ms. Perky. He is then shown around the school by Michael, who will become his best friend. During his tour is when Cameron first sees Bianca Stratford, a beautiful sophomore with one problem: she isn’t allowed to date. And neither is her “shrew” sister, Katarina, a senior who loves indie rock and feminist prose and hates conformity. But Kat and Bianca’s father alters his house rule: now, Bianca can date. as long as Kat has a date, too. Now, in order for Cameron to date Bianca, he has to find someone to date Kat. So Michael helps him enlist the help of pretty-boy/jerk/model Joey Donner, tricking him into thinking that *he* will get to take Bianca out if he pays someone to take out Kat. His choice: Patrick Verona, a bad-boy with a mysterious reputation–some say he ate a live duck once. Written by Erica Baffa

One of the best teen movies of all time.

I can’t say enough good things about this movie. I do remember the first time I saw it, coming away thinking that I wanted to be just like Julia Stiles’ character in it, though. She was so cool and did such an excellent job in her role, that still to this day I consider her to be the coolest teen in any ‘teen movie’.

Basic Plot: Cameron (Levitt), a new student at Pagua high school, falls in love with a sophomore named Bianca Stradford (Oleynik).

However, Bianca has a flirtatious crush on the most popular senior at school named, Joey (Keegan). Cameron’s sidekick Michael (Krumholtz)tells him, that Bianca is looking for someone to help her with French and Cameron decides that’s how he’ll ask her out on a date.

Kat Stradford (Stiles) is Bianca’s sister. Totally opposite of Bianca, she is anti-social and is the most feminist high school senior you could ever meet. Against boys, dances, and anything having to do with prepiness and silly fun, she swears off dating and finds herself being accepted to Sarah Lawrence a college across the country in hopes to get away from her father and the city she lives in.

Bianca desperately wanting to date, is told by her father (Miller) that she will be allowed to date when her sister Kat does. Desperate and not knowing how to get her sister to ‘date for her’, ends up asking Cameron, her new French tutor, to help her with her predicament. Enter Patrick (Ledger). An outcast and rumored to have sold his kidneys on the black market for a new set of speakers, also attends Padgua high, and is unsuspecting of what will happen soon in his future.

Cameron and Micheal decide that in order to make this work, they need a backer. Someone who’s stupid, but has money. So they go to Joey, telling him that they know he likes Bianca, and they need him to pay Patrick a tidy sum, to have him date Kat, in order for him to date Bianca. What Joey doesn’t know, is that Cameron secretly plans to date Bianca, while he pays Patrick to take out Kat.

It may sound like a very confusing movie. But it is so funny, cleverly written, and not entirely true of American teenage culture, but pretty close. The acting is wonderful and in my opinion nothing in the movie would have worked as well, without the people who played their characters. As I said before I think that Stiles’ portration of Kat Stradford was right on, and no one could have done it better. Her best role, more than certainly, and I love this movie so much! I would have to say it’s my favorite teen comedy next to The Breakfast Club. One the best movies, and a great watch!

I give it a 10 out of 10. Go rent it, or better yet go buy it! You won’t regret it!

    Top Airline travel Ratings #travelicity

    RoamRight Review – Ratings and Reviews #best #price #on #rental #cars

    #travel insurance reviews
    #

    RoamRight

RoamRight is a relatively new travel insurance market entrant in terms of the brand name. They are owned by Arch Capital and underwritten by Arch Insurance Company, which is rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best. Arch Insurance Company has been in business since 2001.

    Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating:

    Overview

RoamRight is a travel insurance company owned by Arch Capital, a large company with deep roots in the insurance industry.

Overall, the website is very easy to navigate and the trip insurance terms are explained fully in plain English. No need to open a legal dictionary to figure out the terms and conditions. There are numerous advantages to travel insurance offered through RoamRight.

    1. Customizable

RoamRight offers three tiers of trip insurance plans and also allows customizable upgrades to meet unique needs for each individual trip. There are options for sports enthusiasts, business travel, and even missionaries or students abroad.

    2. Competitive Pricing

It’s family friendly, too; all but the smallest travel insurance plan automatically includes one child per adult for no additional charge. Another pricing advantage is that RoamRight offers more than just three standard tier packages; there are six comprehensive package plans with three additional add-ons or standalone coverage for smaller policies. This allows for fully customized coverage without overpaying for coverages that are not needed.

    3. Coverage Quality

The quality of coverage is excellent and RoamRight has the accredited stamp of approval from the Better Business Bureau. The website is secure for financial transactions, verified by GoDaddy.com, McAfee, and Authorize.net. Additionally, Arch Insurance Company underwrites RoamRight; they maintain a Superior (A+) financial rating by A.M. Best.

For customers unsure of what protection may be needed, RoamRight offers a comparison tool that allows users to see a side-by-side comparison of all packages. This offers a visual checklist of options that make it easy for the user to see what is included and not included with each package option.

The six major package plans available are Essential, Preferred, Elite, Adventure, Active, and Multi-trip. Additional plans include medical, multi-trip medical, and medical evacuation coverage.

The Essential plan is great for a frugal-minded vacationer who sees the value in trip protection but doesn’t want to pay for unneeded extras.

The Preferred and Elite plans are perfect for families who travel with children or require more medical and evacuation protection, baggage coverage, and want the convenience of “cancel for any reason” protection.

Sports enthusiasts will love the Active and Adventure package options. The more daring and adventurous the trip, the more value the Adventure package offers. There is nothing like para-sailing over tropical waters and snorkeling in coral reefs. However, if a stress-relieving golf trip is in the works, the Active plan may be perfect. It includes reimbursement for all those deposits and fees that are typically associated with golfing should the trip be cancelled: Lessons, equipment rentals, and green fees.

The only drawback that could be found was that pets were not included; yet, it s not uncommon in the industry.

The bottom line is that RoamRight offers convenient customization combined with competitive pricing to protect the simplest to the most complex travel plans. They are a good choice for those seeking both quality and value.
