Confusing Terms: Lead Generation Vs #lead #generation #sales

In working with many clients, prospects, and industry leaders, I see much confusion about terms surrounding Lead Generation Teams, Inside Sales Teams, and Telesales Teams. There are many terms, and people actually interpret and use them differently. So, in this blog, I’d like to provide my definitions and clarifications around these functions based on my many interactions with our clients, prospects, and analysts.

1. Lead Generation Team

The function of this Team Is to produce Qualified Leads and then hand them off to the Outside Sales Force or the Inside Sales Force (see number 2 below). This Lead Generation Team sits between marketing and sales and we call it the transmission gear between marketing and sales. This Team can follow up and qualify inbound leads coming in from marketing. 2. Inside Sales Team

The function of this Team is to close deals for revenue. There are two types of Inside Sales Teams:

  1. New Account Inside Sales Teams that close new accounts
  2. Installed Base Inside Sales Team that close renewals, upgrades, cross-sells, and add-ons to the installed base.

Now the tricky part again. This Team also goes by different names. For example:

The New Account Inside Sales Team is sometimes called the:

  1. Corporate Sales Team (increasing usage)
  2. Hybrid Sales Team (increasing usage)
  3. Remote Sales Team (increasing usage)
  4. Telesales Team (decreasing usage)
  5. Virtual Sales Team (increasing usage)

The Installed Base Sales Team is sometimes called the:

  1. Customer Service Sales Teams
  2. Post Sales Team
  3. Renewals Sales Team

3.1 Service Description

Website Design and Development: The service that we offer to small businesses is modeled after the service that larger Web development firms offer Fortune 1000 companies in the sense that it is completely customized and unique to each individual client.

Website Marketing and Analysis: After we build the website for our client, or a new client introduces us to their pre-existing site, we offer this service. As experts of the Web, we can analyze and test a website based on an established set of standards that account for the website’s aesthetic value, scalability, functionality, ease-of-use, and main customer base. After an analysis has been made, we then explore and present to the client a detailed list of the most efficient Internet marketing tools and methods available to them within the constraints of their budget. This type of service is pertinent to our company given the fact that a very large percentage of our clients are on a tight budget and can only afford to take advantage of marketing efforts that are targeted directly at their desired demographic.

Website Hosting and Maintenance: This service is offered for two reasons. The first reason is because they are both ongoing, continual services that we can use to establish and maintain a strong residual income. The second reason for offering these services is to allow for packaging together with other services either Ibrio Inc. offers, or services an outside company can provide, hence allowing us to expand our range of small business Internet services.

3.2 Sales Literature

Ibrio Inc. currently distributes a sales folder with all the pertinent information about our company and services. This folder includes our strong points, history, portfolio examples, and pricing packages info. It also contains facts based on the growth and popularity of the Internet for small businesses.

Ibrio Inc. currently operates and maintains a fully-functioning website that provides information about the company, plus a variety of helpful resources for small business owners which we will be constantly updating.

In the next six months, we plan to produce and distribute bulk mail and fax flyers promoting our Web development and hosting services to small businesses in Central PA to solicit new business.

We have plans to offer a more compact version of our main sales folder in a brochure format. This brochure will be available both as a mailer to interested parties and as a sales solicitation in area businesses.

3.3 Fulfillment

For the website design, development, marketing, analysis, and maintenance we will employ industry professionals to handle our clients’ needs. Working for the company presently is Brandon Andrews, a professional website development engineer and strategist with four years of experience in the commercial Web development industry. To keep employee costs low, we have designed a “team” development system that will consist of two full-time sales people and three full-time Web developers. Of the Web developers, one position will be filled by a highly-qualified senior Web professional and two lesser-qualified, lower paid developers. All three will work full-time on separate projects provided to them by the sales people. However, the senior developer will have the duty of maintaining the same high quality level of work in the junior developers’ projects, that our clients have learned to expect from us now.

For the website hosting services we offer, Ibrio Inc. has formed several alliances with industry leaders to provide top-rate, reliable hosting solutions. Forming the alliances has allowed us much flexibility in important hosting features, customizability, and it has drove costs down dramatically. 3.4 Technology

It is a given that technology and keeping up with new innovations strongly influence our business. We operate a Windows® based Local Area Network (LAN) in the office that is equipped with the most current software and hardware tools available to meet our project requirements. Within the next year, we will be investing in additional tools that will extend our capabilities in handling various types of program files (i.e. Macintosh computers, large capacity data storage, and high-end image scanners). Jetsetter Moves Beyond Flash Sales: Recommendations Now A Third Of Its Business

Jetsetter. the exclusive travel community for globetrotters, seems to be on a roll. In recent days, the company has announced a dozen some new corporate partners, a handful of new sale formats to entice customers, and new distribution partnerships with high-profile sites like Kayak. The Economist  and the vacation rental service HomeAway .

But while many think of Jetsetter as a flash sales for travel site, it’s been finding growth in other verticals: curated recommendations and personal service.

Launched back in September 2009, Jetsetter was the first flash sales site for travel, and has now outlasted much of its earlier competition. Unlike online travel bookings sites aimed at helping users find the cheapest flights and hotel rooms, Jetsetter’s angle is different. It targets not the everyday traveler, but the affluent one.

“Jetsetter customers tend to be six-figure incomes, college-educated professionals, and they tend to come from major urban markets – New York, San Francisco, L.A. Boston, Chicago,” explains Jetsetter CEO and founder Drew Patterson. “These are people for whom travel, and their experiences in travel, are an important part of their sense of self,” he says.

Targeting the elite customer has, so far, paid off. Jetsetter now has 2.2 million members, and has sold over half a million room nights worldwide. On the company’s website, members can take advantage of flash sales on travel, which offer savings of up to 50% off. The site runs anywhere from 20 to 40 of these sales per week. There’s also an online concierge service for bookings to help customers with travel planning.

The available inventory for travelers now includes over 650 hotels and resorts in Jetsetter 24/7, its full-price retail offering, which today accounts for over 30% of the company’s revenue. There are also nearly 300 homes in Jetsetter Homes, an increasingly popular vertical for the company, with 500 more in the process of being added.

“The non-hotel category of lodging has been exploding,” says Patterson, noting consumers’ interest in companies like Airbnb and Inspirato, for example. “Consumers are hungry for something other than hotels. It’s nice to have common space, a kitchen and living room versus bedroom,” he adds. But Patterson says that it’s still hard to book vacation homes online, not only because there aren’t many systems that support online booking, but also because of security issues.

“There are concerns and risks around financial settlement,” he says. “Typically you’re wiring funds with a homeowner, and you’ve never met this person before. You haven’t seen the product before. There’s a fair amount of risk and uncertainty involved in that.”

Jetsetter wants to step in to be the middleman for those transactions, taking on the financial risk, he says. They curate and vet the properties, even going onsite to visit them. That helps to establish trust with their users.

In addition to vacation rentals, Jetsetter’s personal travel planning offering executed 600 trips last year, despite having only launched in June. Today, there are approximately 400 trips in progress, which consumers booked thanks to the recommendations from Jetsetter’s network of over 200 correspondents – experienced travel experts and writers who visit the hotels and partners on Jetsetter’s behalf.

It’s this focus on curation, personalization and recommendation that’s proving to be a growing part of Jetsetter’s business. One third of the company’s revenue came from retail in January, as customers seem willing to pay full price when recommendations are involved.

Jetsetter is also going after customers through other verticals, specifically through new distribution partnerships like travel site Kayak.com  which will see all 650 Jetsetter hotels made available for bookings, as well as with the vacation rental website HomeAway. which is testing Jetsetter integration  with 150 homes. The company is also working with The Economist  on an exclusive 6-week campaign of flash sales curated for the outlet’s readers, which includes distribution through The Economist’s homepage, newsletters, social media and mobile.

New sales formats have been recently introduced to provide a variety of experiences for Jetsetter customers. One, the “Mystery Monday” model, will provide deeper discounts to customers willing to book before learning the hotel’s name. It’s not all that unlike the blind bookings Priceline offers, but the hotels selected are of high quality, like The Ritz-Carlton, the Four Seasons, and The Surrey, all of which made an appearance in January.

There are also two-to-three night getaways called Jetsetter Weekends, focused on a collection of inns and B B’s outside of Jetsetter’s top seven markets (N.Y. Boston, D.C. Miami, L.A. San Francisco, and Seattle). Meanwhile, new “Style Steals” offer discounted rooms at hip, boutique hotels. Jetsetter also says it occasionally runs sales for properties that prefer the voucher format like the Trump Hotel Collection, The Peninsula Hotels, Marquis Jets, and Groundlink, for example.

With all these sales formats combined, it seems that you can no longer call Jetsetter just a “flash sales site” for travel, even though it has an association with sister site Gilt Groupe. known for its flash sale properties.

“We obviously have a flash sale part of the business. That’s hugely important because that was our roots,” says Patterson. “But we also found that customers would write us early on and say, ‘I missed the sale. You emailed me something last week and it seemed great, but it’s not up there anymore. Just tell me what it was. It looked great and I want to go buy it.’”

“We said, Huh?’” he laughs. “But we had enough of these that it seemed like consumers really seemed to trust our judgment. That judgment is an important part of our business and our brand.”

And flash sales?

“Flash sales can inspire consumers and give them ideas for where they should go,” he says.

Jetsetter Moves Beyond Flash Sales: Recommendations Now A Third Of Its Business

Jetsetter. the exclusive travel community for globetrotters, seems to be on a roll. In recent days, the company has announced a dozen some new corporate partners, a handful of new sale formats to entice customers, and new distribution partnerships with high-profile sites like Kayak. The Economist  and the vacation rental service HomeAway .

But while many think of Jetsetter as a flash sales for travel site, it’s been finding growth in other verticals: curated recommendations and personal service.

Launched back in September 2009, Jetsetter was the first flash sales site for travel, and has now outlasted much of its earlier competition. Unlike online travel bookings sites aimed at helping users find the cheapest flights and hotel rooms, Jetsetter’s angle is different. It targets not the everyday traveler, but the affluent one.

“Jetsetter customers tend to be six-figure incomes, college-educated professionals, and they tend to come from major urban markets – New York, San Francisco, L.A. Boston, Chicago,” explains Jetsetter CEO and founder Drew Patterson. “These are people for whom travel, and their experiences in travel, are an important part of their sense of self,” he says.

Targeting the elite customer has, so far, paid off. Jetsetter now has 2.2 million members, and has sold over half a million room nights worldwide. On the company’s website, members can take advantage of flash sales on travel, which offer savings of up to 50% off. The site runs anywhere from 20 to 40 of these sales per week. There’s also an online concierge service for bookings to help customers with travel planning.

The available inventory for travelers now includes over 650 hotels and resorts in Jetsetter 24/7, its full-price retail offering, which today accounts for over 30% of the company’s revenue. There are also nearly 300 homes in Jetsetter Homes, an increasingly popular vertical for the company, with 500 more in the process of being added.

“The non-hotel category of lodging has been exploding,” says Patterson, noting consumers’ interest in companies like Airbnb and Inspirato, for example. “Consumers are hungry for something other than hotels. It’s nice to have common space, a kitchen and living room versus bedroom,” he adds. But Patterson says that it’s still hard to book vacation homes online, not only because there aren’t many systems that support online booking, but also because of security issues.

“There are concerns and risks around financial settlement,” he says. “Typically you’re wiring funds with a homeowner, and you’ve never met this person before. You haven’t seen the product before. There’s a fair amount of risk and uncertainty involved in that.”

Jetsetter wants to step in to be the middleman for those transactions, taking on the financial risk, he says. They curate and vet the properties, even going onsite to visit them. That helps to establish trust with their users.

In addition to vacation rentals, Jetsetter’s personal travel planning offering executed 600 trips last year, despite having only launched in June. Today, there are approximately 400 trips in progress, which consumers booked thanks to the recommendations from Jetsetter’s network of over 200 correspondents – experienced travel experts and writers who visit the hotels and partners on Jetsetter’s behalf.

It’s this focus on curation, personalization and recommendation that’s proving to be a growing part of Jetsetter’s business. One third of the company’s revenue came from retail in January, as customers seem willing to pay full price when recommendations are involved.

Jetsetter is also going after customers through other verticals, specifically through new distribution partnerships like travel site Kayak.com  which will see all 650 Jetsetter hotels made available for bookings, as well as with the vacation rental website HomeAway. which is testing Jetsetter integration  with 150 homes. The company is also working with The Economist  on an exclusive 6-week campaign of flash sales curated for the outlet’s readers, which includes distribution through The Economist’s homepage, newsletters, social media and mobile.

New sales formats have been recently introduced to provide a variety of experiences for Jetsetter customers. One, the “Mystery Monday” model, will provide deeper discounts to customers willing to book before learning the hotel’s name. It’s not all that unlike the blind bookings Priceline offers, but the hotels selected are of high quality, like The Ritz-Carlton, the Four Seasons, and The Surrey, all of which made an appearance in January.

There are also two-to-three night getaways called Jetsetter Weekends, focused on a collection of inns and B B’s outside of Jetsetter’s top seven markets (N.Y. Boston, D.C. Miami, L.A. San Francisco, and Seattle). Meanwhile, new “Style Steals” offer discounted rooms at hip, boutique hotels. Jetsetter also says it occasionally runs sales for properties that prefer the voucher format like the Trump Hotel Collection, The Peninsula Hotels, Marquis Jets, and Groundlink, for example.

With all these sales formats combined, it seems that you can no longer call Jetsetter just a “flash sales site” for travel, even though it has an association with sister site Gilt Groupe. known for its flash sale properties.

“We obviously have a flash sale part of the business. That’s hugely important because that was our roots,” says Patterson. “But we also found that customers would write us early on and say, ‘I missed the sale. You emailed me something last week and it seemed great, but it’s not up there anymore. Just tell me what it was. It looked great and I want to go buy it.’”

“We said, Huh?’” he laughs. “But we had enough of these that it seemed like consumers really seemed to trust our judgment. That judgment is an important part of our business and our brand.”

And flash sales?

“Flash sales can inspire consumers and give them ideas for where they should go,” he says.

Sales force automation (SFA) software is a type of program that automates business tasks such as inventory control, sales processing, and tracking of customer interactions, as well as analyzing sales forecasts and performance. Businesses may have a custom version developed specifically for their needs, or choose from among the increasing number of sales automation software products, such as Interact Commerce’s ACT! and GoldMine Software’s GoldMine. Sales automation software is sometimes called sales automation software. and sometimes called customer relations management ( CRM ) software.

SFA packages typically include a Web-ready database, an e-mail package, and customizable template s. A three-tiered architecture is typically used to separate the database, server, and application to reduce programming demands on clients. A module-based design is generally used, to allow users to customize the package to suit their needs.

In August 2000, Oracle released a free CRM software package, OracleSalesOnline.com which makes information – such as contacts, schedules, and performance tracking – available online through the included database program. The package is designed for medium-to-large enterprises with mobile work forces. All data and storage are based at an Oracle facility, similar to the application service provider ( ASP ) model, which means that data can be accessed from any Internet connection and that the client doesn’t need special hardware or software. The Oracle package also includes online staff training.
