Masters of Business Administration (MBA) – MBA #mba #programs, #gmat, #maasters

Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

A Masters of Business Administration, or MBA, is the postgraduate degree in business administration and one of the most popular degrees for incoming graduate students, according to the Council of Graduate Schools (based on 2010 data). MBA programs attract students from a wide range of disciplines, including education, hospitality and computer science. Executives in public education, nonprofit and for-profit enterprises and in the health care industry may all benefit from the scientific approach to management MBA courses provide. Earning a Masters in Business Administration can provide a range of skills and tools for graduates outside of the business world including the following:

Business Acumen: Running a business entails more than wearing a suit and tie. It involves understanding financial analyses and balancing the organization’s opportunity costs, both of which are taught in an MBA program. These skills can be valuable outside of traditional business environments, such as nonprofits or in education. Skills for running a successful business may help you keep costs down and ensure that the company stays within operational budgets and also prepare you to pull the plug on a project if it’s simply taking too long or not worth the time.

Leadership: An MBA program can impart the value of leadership and all its related aspects through a combination of training and internships. These programs may help teach you how to put your newfound leadership skills to use not only in day-to-day business operations, but in life outside of work as well.

Communication: An MBA program involves rigorous training, assignments, reports, presentations and group projects, all of which may provide you with the necessary communication skills to handle real-life business situations. The experiences you develop during the program have the potential to set you apart from others in your field.

Networking: The alliances that you form with your classmates may last a lifetime and the network that you create can be one of the most important and valuable things you take away from an MBA program. MBA graduates have said they often felt that the associations formed during the program were invaluable and could be drawn upon for years after they have earned their degree.

There are a number of MBA program specializations to choose from, including information security, operations management and accounting. Beyond the program specializations, there are also a number of different potential education paths you may take — full time, an executive program, distance learning or earning a double degree in two MBA focuses. There are many options, so it may be advisable to weigh the pros and cons of each according to your individual circumstances.

This site gathers the information for you with the goal of highlighting the various aspects of an MBA program so that you have the information to help you make an informed choice as well as be prepared for what to expect from business school and beyond.

About Scholarships – University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid #university

About Scholarships

Scholarships are gift funds that are awarded to students based on criteria set by the donor or sponsoring organization. Examples include: academic merit; special talents, interests, or qualities; and financial need. Here are types and sources of scholarships that are typically awarded to eligible University of Michigan students, along with links to sources of more detailed information.

When you are admitted to U-M, you are automatically considered for most scholarships administered by the Office of Financial Aid and for many in Schools and Colleges. The University uses the My Scholarship Profile system in Wolverine Access to review student information, so be sure to update your information there. More about My Scholarship Profile

If you want to be considered for need-based scholarships, you should also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and, for entering students, a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.

The U-M Office of Financial Aid administers a variety of scholarship programs that recognize superior academic achievement, leadership qualities, and potential to contribute to the scholarly community of the university. Some are awarded based partly on financial need and others reflect the university’s commitment to achieving a diverse student body.

Scholarships administered by the U-M Office of Financial Aid are listed on the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing page. Most are awarded automatically to eligible students upon admission, and no application is required beyond the application for admission. Those requiring an additional application are highlighted. To be considered for need-based scholarships, you must also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE .

In general, equal consideration for scholarships is given to eligible students who:

  • have been admitted to U-M by February 1 (note that a few scholarships have different deadlines), and
  • have applied for financial aid by April 30 (to be considered for need-based scholarships).

Graduate Students: The Office of Financial Aid administers only a few scholarships for graduate students (see the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing ). The main sources of U-M graduate student scholarship/fellowship opportunities are your U-M school, college, or department (see below) and the Rackham Graduate School . You may also find non-university (private) scholarship opportunities for graduate students on our Private Scholarships page. If you plan to study abroad, the U-M International Institute lists a number of funding opportunities for graduate and professional school students..

Missouri State Veteran – s Benefits #scholarships #for #veterans #spouses, #veteran

Missouri State Veteran s Benefits

The state of Missouri provides several veteran benefits. This section offers a brief description of each of the following benefits.

Missouri Veteran Housing Benefits

Missouri Veterans Homes
A current total of seven skilled nursing homes are located throughout Missouri, providing 3 levels of skilled nursing care at minimal cost to the veteran.

Under the management of Missouri Veterans Commission, these homes are located in Cameron, Warrensburg, Mexico, St. Louis, St. James, Cape Girardeau, and Mt. Vernon. Each Missouri Veterans Home employs a licensed nursing home administrator, has registered nurses on duty 24 hours per day, and provides physician care; physical, speech, occupational and recreational therapy; medications; cosmetology; maintenance, environmental and social services, and dietary specialists. Each home has a secured dementia unit that includes a dining room, activity area and enclosed courtyard. The monthly resident charge is calculated using a sliding scale based on the veteran s ability to pay. To be eligible for admission to a Missouri Veterans Home, a veteran during his or her lifetime must have lived in Missouri for 180 days, meet the criteria for veteran status established by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and require skilled nursing services.

Missouri Veteran Financial Benefits

Income Tax
Military income is not taxed if stationed outside Missouri and you and your spouse spent less than 30 days in Missouri.

Income Tax on Retired Pay
All military retirement pension income is exempt from state taxes.

Property Tax Credits
The Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim gives credit to certain senior citizens and 100% disabled individuals for a portion of the real estate taxes or rent paid for the year. The credit is for a maximum of $750 for renters and $1,100 for owners who owned and occupied their home. The actual credit is based on the amount of real estate taxes or rent paid and total household income (taxable and nontaxable). If you rent from a facility that does not pay property taxes, you are not eligible for a Property Tax Credit.

Tax Exemption for Agent Orange Settlement Payments
Agent Orange Settlement Payments made for the Agent Orange Fund to a veteran or his dependents are exempt from state tax.

VietnamVeterans Survivor Grant Program
Legislation passed in 1991 provides that certain surviving widows and children of Vietnam Veterans may qualify to receive tuition-free scholarships to attend institutions of post-secondary education in Missouri. The veteran’s death must be attributable to illness that could possibly be a result of exposure to toxic chemicals such as Agent Orange during the Vietnam conflict in order for the survivor to qualify. The maximum annual grant amount is the least of: the actual tuition charged at the school in which you are enrolled full time, or the average amount of tuition charged to a Missouri undergraduate resident enrolled full time in the same class level and in the same academic major at the Missouri public four-year, regional institutions.

Missouri Veteran Employment Benefits

Veterans’ Preference with State of Missouri Employment
Missouri Veterans receive five-point preference when testing for any position with the state, with a ten point preference for a service-connected disabled veteran. Spouses of eligible veterans can also qualify for Veterans Preference for State testing.

Priority for Qualified Veterans Employment
State agencies which administer federally funded employment and training programs for veterans shall give priority to qualified veterans and other eligible persons.

Commercial Driver Exam (CDL) Exemptions

Applicant must have a minimum of 60 days active duty driving experience in a commercial motor vehicle for the military (not vehicle training) within the 2 years prior to date of application for waiver. Applicants must still complete the required knowledge examinations for the commercial driver license class being applied for.

This act limits the tuition to no more than $50 per credit hour at public colleges and universities while enrolled in an undergraduate certificate or degree program after all other financial aid is taken into account. It is applicable to combat Veterans who served after September 11, 2001. Veteran remains eligible for ten years after honorable discharge.

Resident Hunting Fishing Licenses for Active Duty
All members of the United States armed forces stationed and residing in Missouri on permanent change of station status, and their immediate families residing with them, may receive resident permit privileges.

Online University Scholarships #online #university #scholarships

Online University Scholarships

Online colleges might be more affordable than typical on-site colleges, but most students still have a hard time affording the education without financial aid. Scholarships are a great source for money for college, since they don t have to be repaid, but many distance education students question whether the scholarship opportunities available for traditional students are also available for those pursuing a degree online. Luckily, there are a number of online university scholarships if you know where to look.

Some organizations actually actively look to give money to students interested in online education. There are scholarships specifically given to distance learning students available from the following organizations:

  • The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association International
  • The Christian Connector, Inc.

Most scholarships out there, however, are not specifically for online students. That doesn t mean that you can t apply. Many organizations are happy to give their scholarships to any kind of student, as long as the school being attended is accredited. Accreditation, which is done by organizations across the country, helps to ensure that you re getting a quality education, rather than just attending a school that hands you a diploma in exchange for money, regardless of your grades or the work you put into the program. When in doubt, contact the committee that makes decisions regarding the scholarship to see if you qualify as an online university student.

Along with organizations, scholarships are available from schools themselves. Scholarships are based on merit, and schools like to reward the students who are excelling within their programs. You can get scholarships based on your grades, as well as other talents, skills and experiences. For example, many online religious schools give out scholarships based on community service. You may have to write an essay about yourself to win some scholarships, putting you in a competition with other students to earn the money. Race, gender, ethnicity, family military service, marital status, disabilities, and many other factors can all help you qualify for scholarships.Don t forget to talk to your department head, not just the financial aid office. Some scholarships are given directly through your department, rather than through the college.

The types of scholarships available to you depends on your major. Many scholarship funds are set up to specifically help students pursue an education in a certain field. Common online majors, like business, nursing, and education, usually have a large number of scholarships available. If you re pursuing a more specialized career, such as interior design, you may have to search harder to find scholarships that apply. Luckily, there are also many funds that don t limit applicants based on intended major, so you can apply regardless of your educational interests.

There s no reason to pay for your complete tuition out of pocket. While you may not think that you can afford a better education, scholarships can make it possible for you to pay for your degree, especially at more affordable online schools. Before you dismiss the idea of going back to college, check out all of the options available .

Application (two parts):

What are the different ways students can study abroad?

  • Exchange
  • International Internship
  • JGE (Jindal Global Experience) Course
  • Third Party Programs
  • Special UTD Programs: PPA Program in Marburg, DMHP trip to Prague and Budapest

Do Global Business students have to study abroad?

I’m not a Global Business student. Can I still study abroad?

Yes – they need to either have one semester-long exchange program, one international internship, or two JGE courses.

Can students complete their study abroad and their internship requirement at the same time?

Yes! International internships are encouraged!

What semester is the best to study abroad?

  • The ideal time to study abroad is Sophomore/Junior year. NO student (Undergraduate or Graduate) can participate in an exchange program or Third Party Program during their last two semesters at UTD.
  • Students can participate in JGE Courses and International Internships during their last two semesters, but it is not recommended.

What are the GPA requirements?

  • Exchange All students must have 3.0 minimum GPA.
  • International Internship, Third Party Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • JGE Courses Undergraduate students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. There is not a minimum GPA requirement for graduate students.

I’ve applied online. Now what?

I’m a fast-track student. Are there any requirements I should know about?

Just like any other student, fast-track students cannot study abroad their last two semesters of their undergraduate careers. If students are going to fast track, they should consider doing an international internship or JGE Course.

I’m about to graduate! If a student only has 2 (or less) semesters left, but they need to complete a study abroad requirement, what should they do?

  • In this case, the student should consider doing two separate JGE courses.
  • If they have time, they could also consider doing an international internship.

Are there any specific UTD scholarships available?

  • Yes! JSOM students have two ways to apply for study abroad scholarships at UTD: The International Education Fund Scholarship (IEFS) and the JSOM Travel Scholarship. However, in order to be eligible for the JSOM Travel Scholarship, the student must first have applied for the IEFS.

  • National Merit Scholars get $6,000 grant for international travel.
