BYU grad students ranked high in top law and business school

BYU grad students ranked high in top law and business school categories by Princeton review

In preparation for an anticipated flood of college graduates, the Princeton Review published “The Best 168 Law Schools” and “The Best 296 Business Schools” on Tuesday, each with 11 different ranked categories.

Two Brigham Young University graduate programs ranked near the top of those lists.

The Marriott School of Management ranked second for most family friendly business school, while the J. Reuben Clark Law School was third in two law-school categories — most competitive students and most conservative students.

The University of Utah was also profiled in each book as being among the best law schools and business schools, though it was not on any of “Top 10” lists. Additionally, Weber State University was profiled among top business schools.

“All of the rankings in both books are based completely on student survey,” Rob Franek, senior vice president and publisher for the Princeton Review, said. “It is the opinion of students at BYU, and the other hundreds of schools.”

BYU has been a consistent top-runner among the best law and business colleges in the United States, Franek said, and those graduate schools are amongst the most powerful in the nation.

The BYU business school has made the top five family friendly list for years.

“It’s a ranking we’re certainly proud of,” said Robert Gardner, director of Alumni Relations. “It’s not one we are necessarily surprised by. It’s one we’ve always ranked well in with our family culture here. We love that ranking and we expect it to continue in that way.”

Among the MBA class that will graduate in April, 76 percent are married, up from 64 in the previous class. The percentage of married students in the MBA program is usually somewhere in the mid-to-upper 60-percent range, Gardner said, so this is a high year.

The survey questions for the family friendly category pertain to the happiness of married students, the number of kids students have and the help the school gives to students’ spouses and children.

“We have an active MBA spouse association that makes sure spouses are well-networked and well-supported,” Gardner said. “Last month they had a family barbecue at a park near campus. They set up regular meetings. It’s activities like those that really make a difference.”

The law school has consistently ranked high on the most-competitive and most-conservative lists, sitting in the top four on each since 2008.

For the most-conservative students category, known in past years as “students lean to the right,” surveyed students were asked if there was a prevailing political bent at the school and how they would categorize themselves, Franek said.

The answers students can choose from are: very liberal, liberal, middle of the road, somewhat conservative and very conservative.

“We ask students in 368 law schools and compare school to school,” Franek said. “Compared to other schools BYU has consistently been on this list.”

For the competitive category, students are asked about the number of hours they study outside class, hours of sleep they get nightly and the number of hours they believe their peers in the school study outside class.

“It is partially about their experience and partially their perception of others,” Franek said. “It speaks directly to their academic experience.”

On average, 107 students at each law school and 64 students at each business school were surveyed for the lists in the books’ 2013 editions. The survey is annual and students can fill it out throughout the school year at princetonreview.com .

Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse, Nursing, certified registered nurse anesthetist schools.#Certified #registered

Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse

What Does a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse Do?

Cardiac catheterization, or heart cath, is the insertion of a catheter into a heart chamber or vessel. Catherization can be used as a diagnostic tool to investigate possible cardiac conditions or used as a form of treatment. A specialized subset of cardiac catheterization is coronary catheterization, which involves catheterizing coronary arteries. From angioplasties, valvuloplasties, to stent placements, catheterization procedures take place in state of the art labs. During a catheterization procedure, the catheter, or thin, flexible tube, is inserted into a vein in the patient s leg or arm then moved into the arteries or heart. Cardiac cath lab nurses can also assist physicians in implanting pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibillators (ICDs). They must be good with technology and able to learn quickly. The majority of cardiac cath lab nurses work in hospitals and clinics, generally stationed in intensive care units and cardiovascular catheterization labs if they re available.

How Can I Become a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse?

Cardiac cath lab nurses are registered nurses with a certification or advanced level experience in this discipline. Obviously cardiac cath lab nurses should also possess a high level of understanding and training in cardiac anatomy and physiology. Upon receiving a degree and license as a registered nurse and working for a specific period of time, those interested can participate in a hospital run cardiac cath lab training program if they re available, then apply for a voluntary certification exam. The training program consists of classroom study as well as several hundred hours of supervised nursing experience in an actual cath lab. During this training the nurse will learn the differences between cardiac conditions and how to treat them. The length of these programs may vary by hospital or state, but generally can last up to six months. Be sure to only participate in certification exams that are approved of by your hospital, state or national certification board. Should a hospital led training program not be available, many registered nurses spend one to two years in the emergency room, intensive care unit or coronary care unit before they enter the cardiac cath lab.

What Is the Career and Salary Outlook for a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse?

With heart disease on the rise in the United States, many more patients suffering from cardiac conditions are entering the health care system in need of specialized care. This fact coupled with the national nursing shortage leaves the future employment outlook very positive for cardiac cath lab nurses. According the National Center for Disease Control, nearly 1.5 million heart attacks occur in this country alone each year and more than 8 million Americans suffer from heart disease. According to one source, average annual salaries for cardiac cath lab nurses vary by geographic location and the nurse s experience, but can range from $41,000-$63,500 per year. Also, cardiac cath lab nurses have the advantage of cross training with other departments which increases their expertise and marketability to potential employers. Obviously, the more knowledgeable a medical professional is about more medical disciplines, the more likely they will to receive a higher salary.

    Military and UWF

One of the most innovative opportunities the Internet opened up for men and women serving in the military is the ability to earn a college degree online – wherever they are based or deployed. It’s also a great option for employed veterans and their spouses – allowing them to earn a degree without taking time off from their civilian jobs.

Online education has come a long way and the University of West Florida offers robust, highly interactive learning environments that can make online learning as engaging as on campus classes.

UWF makes it easy and affordable for military personnel and their family members to continue their college programs. Tuition fees are very affordable and are well within the military services range of tuition fees authorized for payment. The UWF out-of-state fee waiver covers the out-of-state portion of assessed tuition and fees for students enrolled in our fully online programs or certificates. This waiver makes tuition and fees only slightly higher than Florida resident tuition even though students may live outside the state.

For veterans and their spouses, the flexibility of online degree and certificate programs, coupled with the Post 9/11 GI Bill, could cover up to 100% of tuition expenses.

Military Times – Best for Vets Colleges

Military Times announced its 2014 Best for Vets College Rankings and UWF is #22 in the nation. The organization comprising Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times placed a new emphasis on academic rigor this year when conducting and scoring the fourth annual Best for Vets: Colleges survey, a highly respected 150-question analysis of a school’s complete offerings for veterans.

Best for Vets provides service men and women a gauge by which to judge whether a school or degree program will truly benefit them. The rankings factored in service member enrollment, percentage of tuition covered by the GI Bill, and availability of specific programs to help service members.

    Yellow Ribbon Program

The University of West Florida (UWF) has been a participating member of the Yellow Ribbon Program since 2011. UWF has voluntarily entered into an agreement with the VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. This agreement is part of the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program ) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding.

If eligible, the Post-9/11 GI Bill pays up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition and fees. You may have tuition and fees that exceed that amount if you are in an out-of-state status. UWF will pay 50% of the amount above the maximum allowed by the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the VA will pay the remaining 50%.

G.I. Jobs Magazine – Military Friendly School

UWF NAMED MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOL BY “G.I. JOBS MAGAZINE” for the Seventh consecutive year!

The University of West Florida was named a 2015 Military Friendly School by “G.I. Jobs Magazine.” The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools List included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.

The list was compiled through exhaustive research starting last May during which “G.I. Jobs” polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toledo, Duquesne University, Coastline Community College and Lincoln Technical Institute. “This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school,” said Rich McCormack, “G.I. Jobs” publisher. “Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided they’re academically qualified, so schools are clamoring for them like never before. Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated, and the Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend.”

Minnesota School of Business, business schools minnesota.#Business #schools #minnesota

    #

Welcome to the Minnesota School of Business

To our 100,000 graduates, our current students, our talented and dedicated employees, and our communities who have provided great jobs and support to our Schools; we thank you and want you to be proud of the education provided during the past 140 years. We want to be clear that the findings from the Hennepin County Court case with the Minnesota Attorney General showed no widespread systemic fraud and no issues with the education we provide. We want you all to know the facts and to know that we are fighting to not have the schools close. For more background on what is happening, click here. While we work through this challenging time, we are working to find pathways for our students. It is our goal to make sure students have options to complete their degree with us or transfer credits to another accredited institution.

    Minnesota School of Business

Each Minnesota campus will remain open through at least the end of January to help students get transcripts, answer questions and facilitate meetings with multiple institutions that are willing to accept credits from Globe/MSB. See articulation/transfer list.

    Minnesota students

The school is offering some classes online, through MSB Blaine and for graduate students at our Minneapolis location who do not need federal funding. Eligible students are those who can complete their program in the winter 2017 or spring 2017 quarters.

    Globe University

Globe officially discontinued operations at the South Dakota and Wisconsin campuses, as of Dec. 31, 2016. Globe transferred administration of those campuses for teach-out purposes to Broadview University. Students in South Dakota and Wisconsin have the option to complete their program at their existing location or online through a teach-out agreement approved with Broadview University.

    About Broadview University

Broadview University, based in Utah, is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Universities.

The Hennepin County, Minnesota District Court issued an Order on Sept. 8, 2016 finding that Globe violated the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, Minnesota statute § 325D.44. As a result of this Order, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (MOHE) issued an order revoking Globe’s and MSB’s registration with the state and ordering Globe and MSB to cease enrollment of new students.

Globe and MSB are currently under a show-cause directive from its accreditor, ACICS.

In addition, on Dec. 6, 2016, the U.S. Department of Education announced its decision to deny Globe’s and MSB’s participation in the Title IV student financial aid programs.

Globe and MSB have appealed the MOHE order.

  • Forensic psychology is a fascinating career that combines psychology and the legal system. In general terms, forensic psychologists focus on the application of psychological theory and practice to the criminal, court and corrections systems. Forensic psychologists work with the justice system and members of the court to assist in its functioning. The application of many legal concepts requires understanding psychological principles, such as state of mind, memory and perception.

Due to the unique and specialized nature of forensic psychology, a graduate education is a necessity. Here’s a discussion on what forensic psychologists do, what it takes to become one and how to succeed as a forensic psychologist professional.

What Does a Forensic Psychologist Do?

A forensic psychologist helps facilitate the legal process by providing psychology expertise to various individuals in the legal system. Their understanding and explanations of certain aspects of psychological health can help move along court cases, inform juries, determine the reasons behind crimes being committed, and otherwise play an integral role in the system.

Forensic psychologists provide advice to trial counsel, evaluate litigating parties and witnesses on behalf of judges or attorneys, and conduct research, such as figuring out why juries vote a particular way or why eyewitness testimony can be unreliable. A forensic psychologist might serve as an expert witness to explain a complex psychological concept to the jury, provide consulting advice to an attorney about a person’s state of mind or evaluate a defendant to determine whether they are competent to stand trial.

Beyond the court system, forensic psychologists are often employed in jails and prisons, providing rehabilitative treatment and education to inmates in preparation for their release and return to the outside world. Forensic psychology professionals are also sometimes hired by police departments as consultants and profilers during criminal investigations. Finally, forensic psychologists conduct research on criminal behavior and the development of effective clinical treatments.

Forensic Psychologist Salaries Across the US

What forensic psychologists can expect to make depends on many factors, including their education, legal experience, courtroom savvy and geographic location. This map represents typical salaries forensic psychologists can expect to make based on what state they’re working in.

What should I wear to the Makeup School Sydney course?

Our makeup academy recommends you wear dark clothing to the course, and something you don’t mind getting some makeup on. Black is the preferred colour for that is what most professional Makeup Artists wear.

Should I wear makeup to the Makeup School Sydney Course?

    What Must Students Bring?

Students need to supply their own model to practice on during the Makeup Courses. The model is also required to complete the practical assessment.

Jay Jay recommends the Makeup Starter Kit by Mikatvonk Makeup (co-developed by Jay Jay) consisting of 21 makeup products for only $350.
This represents fantastic value in comparison to other makeup brands that are charging $69 for foundation! Please be aware this is not a compulsory purchase, but it is an optional extra made available to you throughout the course.

Makeup Assessment Plan and Demonstration Requirements

During the 3 week course, Jay Jay recommends students practice a total of 9 hours outside of Makeup School sessions.
Each student needs to supply her own model to practice on during the Makeup Courses – a model will also be required to assist the student on the exam day.
Students will need to complete a Questionnaire and demonstrate a look of their choice. This look is to be assessed by the teacher and deemed competent to work within the industry. The students are also asked to provide copies of their notes taken during the course as well as the learner activities from the Training Manual. Jay Jay provides assistance on all of these areas.

Physical Therapist vs. Occupational Therapist: What s the Difference?

Occupational therapists and physical therapists both do vital hands-on rehabilitative work to help patients with injuries or disabilities that limit how they re able to move and function in daily life.

PTs work primarily with people recovering from injuries. The goal is to get patients back in motion with exercises, massage and other techniques, and therapy usually happens in a PT s office. Physical therapy often focuses on preventing injuries, and it can help people avoid surgery or a long-term reliance on medications.

OTs help their patients perform day-to-day tasks, whether they re recovering from injuries or have developmental or cognitive disabilities affecting their motor skills, emotions or behavior. Some occupational therapy might happen in a hospital or OT s office, but a key component occurs in a patient s home or work environment. There s a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of helping people do the things they want and need to do so they can live life to the fullest.

Here s a breakdown of some other differences between these two fast-growing professions:

Diagnose physical problems restricting movement because of an illness or injury

Use exercises and other techniques to ease pain and boost mobility and muscle strength

Develop fitness and wellness programs aimed at preventing injuries and encouraging a more active lifestyle

Help patients with daily living skills and self-care tasks (i.e. occupations ) such as getting dressed

Support patients with memory loss or other cognitive issues

    Make recommendations about adaptive equipment

Advise architects and contractors about patients accessibility needs

Most practicing physical therapists hold a doctorate, which usually takes three years to complete. Master s degrees take two years and both require an undergraduate degree. More degree options .

Occupational therapists need at least a master s degree to practice (two years). A doctoral degree takes between two and three years. More degree options .

Physical therapists must be licensed. To sit for the National Physical Therapist Examination, you have to be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy school. More on certification .

Licensing laws vary by state but common requirements include graduating from an accredited occupational therapy school, meeting fieldwork requirements and passing a national certification exam. More on licensing and certification .

    Median annual salary: $82,390

    Median annual salary: $78,810

Seek certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties after meeting clinical practice requirements by working with patients in a specialty area, such as:

OTs can seek board certification in gerontology, mental health, pediatrics or physical rehabilitation after meeting clinical practice requirements; or specialty certification in:

    • Driving
    • Community mobility
    • Environmental modification
    • Low vision
    • Feeding, eating and swallowing
    • School systems.

In some cases, patients start out with a physical therapist then move on to an occupational therapist. One example: Someone recovering from a stroke might work with a physical therapist to build back muscle strength. Later on, that person would see an occupational therapist to work on buttoning a shirt, using the restroom or taking a shower.

If you re interested in either career, there are entry-level educational and career options. Find out more about what it takes to become a physical therapy assistant or an occupational therapy assistant .

The salary information and job growth data listed is based on a national average, unless noted. Actual salaries may vary greatly based on specialization within the field, location, years of experience and a variety of other factors. National long-term projections of employment growth may not reflect local and/or short-term economic or job conditions, and do not guarantee actual job growth.

Criminal Justice Schools in Pennsylvania | PA

    PA Criminal Justice

Projections Central predicts a 356% increase in gaming surveillance officer jobs through to 2018 for Pennsylvania. Last year, The Washington Times reported that the state earned the highest tax revenue from casinos and gaming operations. CBS 21 News projected that Pennsylvania will become the countrys second best gambling hot spot, surpassing Atlantic City. You could become a gaming surveillance officer, an ideal position to kick start your criminal justice career, whether you choose to move on to law enforcement, a courtroom, homeland security or the FBI. Check out the criminal justice schools in Pennsylvania for information on casino surveillance or gaming security programs. Notice how schools offer online or campus programs so you can select a course load that suits your schedule.

The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole supervises over 267,000 parolees and probationers, states the National Institute of Corrections. In fact, in 2010, the states per capita number of parolees exceeded the national average by 262%. This probably explains why Pennsylvania is one of five states with the highest concentration of probation officers and correctional treatment specialists. If you would like to become one of these community corrections professionals, take a criminal justice degree in Pennsylvania specializing in corrections, psychology, social work, law enforcement or another related discipline.

Whether you want to become a police officer or lawyer, the criminal justice schools in Pennsylvania offer campus or online programs to help start your career.

    Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Career Outlook

Many criminal justice careers in Pennsylvania show a positive outlook for growth. With their average number of annual job openings provided by Projections Central, here are some examples:

    • Police and Sheriffs Patrol Officers

    840 openings/year

  • Correctional Officers and Jailers
    670 openings/year
  • Detectives and Criminal Investigators

For example, if you would like to become a police officer, it would be wise to take at least an Associates degree in law enforcement. Or you might want to take a criminal justice degree in Pennsylvania specializing in corrections to become a jailer or correctional officer.

    Top Criminal Justice Employers Agencies

In Pennsylvania, there are two FBI field offices (Pittsburg and Philadelphia), one Homeland Security Special-Agent-in-Charge office (Philadelphia) and four U.S. Secret Service field offices (Scranton, Harrisburg, Pittsburg and Philadelphia). To become qualified for any of these federal agencies it would be wise to specialize. For example, you could take a criminal justice degree in Pennsylvania majoring in counterterrorism, cyber security, homeland security, computer forensics, criminal psychology, law enforcement or another relevant discipline.

Additionally, a division of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is located in Philadelphia. To become a DEA Agent, start with completing a criminal justice or law enforcement degree at one of the criminal justice schools in Pennsylvania.

Finally, one of the FBIs Regional Computer Forensic Laboratories (RCFL) is located in Philadelphia. To become a digital forensics professional, consider taking a computer forensics degree.

Master’s in Film and Media Production

Overview of our MA in Film and Media Production

The Academy makes the accelerated schedule possible by creating an extended academic year, allowing students to complete three full-length semesters in one calendar year.

New York Film Academy MA degree programs are offered only at our Los Angeles campus.

Throughout the filmmaking MA program each student writes, shoots, directs, and edits eight films, and works on at least 20 more.

    ONE-YEAR ACCELERATED MA

The New York Film Academy Master of Arts (MA) in Film & Media Production is a three semester accelerated graduate program. Designed to educate aspiring content creators, it is a hands-on, total immersion, professional course of study. Each student will create eight of their own film media projects in an array of formats and genres. They will work in collaboration on their classmates’ projects on at least 20 more. The capstone of the MA Film and Media Production program is a written thesis paper exploring the ideas and themes that are studied during the course of the entire program. MA students will have opportunities to develop and deepen their thesis papers in the second semester of their studies in Thesis Development class, under the expert guidance of NYFA’s professionally active faculty. Students will then progress to finalize their thesis work in the third semester, in Thesis Review.

Film and media production is constantly evolving in the 21st century — and so is the New York Film Academy’s filmmaking Master’s program. NYFA’s filmmaking MA program provides creative visual storytellers with the skills needed to thrive and succeed. The intensive curriculum challenges students, develops their skills, and prepares them for the new and evolving production world of today. Students will gain experience shooting their projects on the newest in HD, film, and digital equipment, from Canon 5D to Red Dragon, as well as classic film cameras like Panavision and Arriflex.

    FILMMAKING MA: SEMESTER ONE OVERVIEW

MA Filmmaking students begin their immersion in film production through a series of intense classes in directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing. These classes support a number of short film productions that quickly put students’ skills into practice and assist them with developing proficiency in the overall production process. Each student will direct four short film/media projects in the first half of the semester.

Students will also develop their leadership and collaborative skills through fulfilling the essential roles of Director of Photography, Assistant Camera Operator, and Gaffer (Lighting Technician) on the films of their classmates.

Dialogue production is explored in depth in the second half of the semester while classes in directing, screenwriting, and editing continue. The final project of the semester is the digital dialogue film, which students will write, direct, and edit.

Throughout the semester students are immersed in a course about the changing formats of media production in today’s entertainment marketplace. This course prepares them to undertake production of their thesis film in semester two either as a short film or as a new, still developing format, such as webisode, or content for mobile applications.

The combination of these classes will prepare students for the second semester and production of their Thesis Projects.

    LEARNING GOALS

    • Art, aesthetics, and technique of visual storytelling including directing, cinematography, and editing.
    • Fundamentals of film production and digital editing.
    • Survey and examination of contemporary media formats and distribution vehicles from a content creator’s perspective.
    • Fundamental training in acting and directing actors.
    • Immersion in screenwriting craft.
    • Develop an ability to collaborate with — and lead — a student film crew.

    PRODUCTION GOALS

    • Write, direct, and edit four short film/media projects.
    • Crew as cinematographer, gaffer, and/or assistant camera on approximately 12 additional films.
    • Write a short film script with dialogue.
    • Write, direct and edit a dialogue film.
    • Successfully complete Production Lab exercise.

FILMMAKING MA: SEMESTER TWO & THREE OBJECTIVES

The second semester of the Master of Arts in film and media production program challenges students to develop their craft artistically and technically, and to progress beyond their earlier achievements with the medium. Building upon the filmmaking foundations learned in the previous semester, students continue with their directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing classes.

Film Production Lab Two, an intensive in the field production class, provides instruction in all of these areas through a series of “in the field” productions. The development of professional on-set conduct, leadership, and collaborative skills are also rigorously developed in this class.

The branding and marketing required to make an entrance into the crowded contemporary media field is studied at length prior to production of the thesis project. This allows students time to acquire any provisions they need to successfully promote the project.

The last film project of the filmmaking MA is the Final Film: a single production of up to 15 minutes in length, or multiple shorter media projects. It may be a short film intended for film festivals and distribution which incorporates all of the disciplines instructed throughout the semester, or a new format as studied in the Media and Society class. Current examples include webisodes, branded entertainment, short TV pilots, or commercials. The students’ ambitions and capabilities as evidenced in the thesis project are expected to increase from the first semester projects. Students will also expand their knowledge of production and collaborative abilities through acting as crew members on five of their classmates’ productions.

Intensive classes in post-production assist the student not only with completing the final steps of the filmmaking process, but also with developing an ability to give and receive editorial and creative feedback on their project.

    LEARNING GOALS

    • Advance in proficiency in the fields of directing, editing, and cinematography.
    • Develop an increased ability to produce short films at a higher level.
    • Advance in proficiency in collaboration and leadership skills.
    • Acquire a comprehension of branding and marketing as required to promote the thesis project.
    • Develop an ability to give and receive constructive editorial and creative feedback on a project.

    PRODUCTION GOALS

    • Direct and edit a thesis project of up to 15 minutes in length (shot on 16mm film, 35mm film, or High Def).
    • Develop proficiency with the second semester equipment package.
    • Participate as a principle crew member in five fellow students’ films.
    • Direct or DP a Film Production Lab Two project.

    FILMMAKING MA: YEAR-END SCREENINGS

The thesis project will be presented in a movie theater for an invited audience. Students are responsible for inviting all guests. This public screening is not part of the formal evaluation process, but serves as a celebration of the students’ progress and achievements thus far.

Online nursing schools have become increasingly popular for working registered nurses and LPN/LVNs due to the flexibility the programs offer. For instance, those with an LPN/LVN, RN or bachelor’s in nursing can continue working as a nurse while attending LPN to BSN program, an RN to BSN program or an RN to MSN program at many of top nursing schools in the country. Online DNP programs are starting to become more prevalent as well. Online nursing schools offering RN to MSN and DNP programs provide specialization options in most any area a nurse would want to specialize including advanced practice, leadership and management, educator, forensic nursing, geriatrics, pediatrics and more.

With the exception of Excelsior College, there is not one entry to nursing online nursing program offered in the U.S. that holds CCNE or NLNAC accreditation. Accreditation and your state’s board of nursing approval of a nursing program you attend is critical to your eligibility for licensure in your state as well as future professional certifications in nursing. So, if you are here researching entry to nursing type programs such as CNA, LPN/LVN, Diploma, Associate’s in Nursing or BSN programs you will need to search for a program in the state where you want to practice as a CNA, LPN/LVN or registered Nurse. Use the search feature on this site or the navigation in the right column to find an entry to nursing program in your state. Whether you are looking for a campus based nursing school to become a nurse or an online nursing school looking to advance your nursing career, education, and salary, there are many accredited programs for you to choose from.

While job prospects are diminishing in many fields today, the areas of nursing and health care are growing rapidly. With the growing nursing shortage, jobs for nursing are abundant in many states and as the economy trends more positively there will be more openings presented. Going to nursing school has become a popular choice for those looking for a potentially lucrative career with a positive job outlook and growing wages. The BLS as well as almost every state’s workforce data report that employment of registered nurses is expected to grow much faster than the average of all occupations through 2018 and beyond.

Nursing comprises the largest number of workers in the health care sector. Almost every state as well as Canada have been reporting a shortage of nurses. Future projections are startling as well. By the year 2020, HRSA projections put the shortage of nurses throughout the U.S. at over one million. This stat, released in 2006, spurred states to reevaluate their strategies and develop new ones to attract new nurses to the workforce. Scholarships, grants, tuition repayment programs and other creative ideas have been implemented by states to incentivize new nurses to go to school as well as to encourage veteran nurses to return to school and become educators, practitioners and leaders in all areas of nursing.

Newport Beach, California – City Information, Fast Facts, Schools, Colleges, and

    #

    Newport Beach, California

    Overview

    Introduction to Newport Beach

Incorporated in 1906, the Pacific coastal city of Newport Beach, California, is situated in Orange County, 10 miles south of downtown Santa Ana and 17 miles south of Anaheim. Bordering the city is Huntington Beach to the west, Costa Mesa and Irvine to the north and Crystal Cove State Park to the east. Newport Beach is home to several well known communities, including Corona del Mar, Balboa Island, Newport Coast, San Joaquin Hills and Balboa Peninsula (also known as Balboa).

In 1870, Captain Samuel S. Dunnells successfully steered his 105-ton river steamer, the “Vaquero,” through upper Newport Bay, dispelling the prevalent theory at the time that the bay was too treacherous for travel. The harbor was named a “New Port” by the principal landowners in the area, James and Robert McFadden, who created McFadden’s Landing and a few years later, McFadden’s Wharf. By the early 1900s, Newport Beach had already become a tourist destination with the arrival of the Pacific Electric Railway, which terminated at the Balboa Pavilion. By the mid-20th century, a number of famous celebrities would call Newport Beach their home. One of the most recognizable was John Wayne (known as “the Duke”). Other area celebrities over the years have included Shirley Temple, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn, Roy Rogers, Joey Bishop and George Burns. Today, Newport Beach remains very much a tourist destination, possessing a harbor crowded with boats, streets busy with shoppers and 6.2 miles of beaches filled with surfers and swimmers.

Things To Do In Newport Beach

Visitors to Newport Beach will never be at a loss for things to do, places to go or sights to see. True to its name, the city offers numerous beaches to suit every beachgoer’s taste, among them the Wedge (a body-surfing hot-spot). Other outdoor attractions include:

    • The Catalina Flyer: a giant 500 passenger catamaran, which provides daily transportation from the Balboa Peninsula to Santa Catalina Island.
    • The Balboa Fun Zone: features a Ferris wheel, a 14-foot trampoline, an old-time carousel built in 1938, laser tag, and bumper cars in addition to restaurants and shops.
    • The Back Bay: a wildlife sanctuary.
    • The Newport Aquatic Center: offers kayaking, canoeing, and rowing and has been used as a training ground for many Olympians throughout the years.
    • The Balboa Island Ferry: transports pedestrians, cars, and bikes across the harbor channel between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula.
    • Fashion Island: provides an outdoor shopping experience with over 200 stores and 40 restaurants.

Among the many cultural and historic attractions in Newport Beach are the following:

    • Newport Theater Arts Center: Known as the finest community theater in Orange County.
    • Sherman Gardens Photo Tour: includes a beautiful public garden as well as the Sherman Library for California history.
    • The Orange County Museum of Art: exhibits art from a variety of modern artists.
    • Balboa Pavilion: Newport Beach’s first landmark, built in 1905.
    • McFadden’s Wharf: built in 1889.
    • Newport Harbor Nautical Museum: the largest nautical museum in Orange County.
    • Lido Marine Village: open air center with brick walkways, interesting shops, and gondola rides.

Annual events which take place in Newport Beach include the Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race and Newport Beach International Film Festival (both held in April), the Newport Beach Festival of the Arts (held in May), the SandCastle Contest (a sand-sculpture contest held at Corona del Mar City and State Beach every summer), Flight of the Lasers (a sailboat race held in Newport Harbor every July), Character Boat Parade/Wooden Boat Festival (also held in July), Taste of Newport (a three-day food, wine and music festival held in September) and the Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade (held in mid-December).

Orange County is home to several world-class attractions that are located outside the city borders of Newport Beach but still within easy commuting distance. These include Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure Park (Anaheim), Knott’s Berry Farm Knott’s Soak City (Buena Park), the International Surfing Museum (Huntington Beach), the Orange County Zoo (Orange), the Wild Rivers Waterpark (Irvine) and the Marconi Automotive Museum (Tustin).

Orange County is also home to several pro sports teams. Baseball fans can watch Major League action when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim play their home games. Hockey fans can take the short trip to Anaheim to see the NHL’s Mighty Ducks. Surfers will recognize nearby Huntington Beach as home to the Surfing Hall of Fame.
