Google Flights offers 6 new ways to score cheap airline tickets

Google has introduced a new search tool that makes finding the best airfare deal significantly easier. If you have your destination ready and your travel dates are flexible, your chances of snagging the lowest price goes up. That s because Google Flights will present a calendar of the dates with the cheapest prices for your travel.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) Google has introduced a new search tool that makes finding the best airfare deal significantly easier.

Lowest prices by time of year

If you have your destination ready and your travel dates are flexible, your chances of snagging the lowest price goes up. That s because Google Flights will present a calendar of the dates with the cheapest prices for your travel.

The prices that Google shows will appear in gray and green (green for lowest).

When you click on the day you want to travel, Google will list the flights for that date in order of cost, grouping together all the times when you can fly at the lowest price.

Chart tools created to monitor yearly trends

If you re curious about what time of the year flights between two cities are the lowest, Google Flights can show you a bar chart that will give you a glimpse of the best prices throughout the year.

Google Maps with flight prices

Maybe you know when you want to fly, but you re not sure where to go? Google Flights has an interactive map that will show you prices for destinations around the world.

I m feeling lucky

You can also search for generic terms, such as flights to Europe or flights to Mexico. Google Flights also has an I m feeling lucky button that will suggest popular destinations and other locations based on your search history.

Don t know where to go?

Google said it found that 54% of people don t know where they want to travel when they decide to plan their vacations.

What Google doesn t show is whether prices will drop in the near future. Microsoft Bing and Kayak provide services that predict when prices are expected to rise or fall.

But Google said those tools aren t typically very helpful.

Don t know when to go?

Though it s sometimes hard to pull the trigger because you re afraid the price will drop tomorrow (or next Tuesday, maybe?), our experience shows it s usually best to book right away, said Eric Zimmerman, Google Flights product manager, in a blog post.

A nifty trick is to save your flight booking on Google Flights and use the Google Now app to receive updates if the price drops substantially.  Although there are not guarantees when it comes to the price of airfare, if you re unsure that s a great way to be able to jump on the discount, if it happens.

In 2011, Google purchased a company called ITA, which provides flight information to websites, such as Expedia, Kayak, Hipmunk and Priceline. The data Google controls includes flight times, availability and prices.

Competitors Kayak and Expedia initially opposed the deal before the Department of Justice forced Google to promise that it would continue to promote competition.

When to Hire an Auto Insurance Lawyer #auto #insurance #score

#

When to Hire an Auto Insurance Lawyer

Whether your auto accident claim is denied or you’ve reached a stalemate in car accident settlement negotiations, an auto accident lawyer may be able to help move things in the right direction. A car accident attorney can give the insurance company a reason to keep working with you, or file a lawsuit to get you the auto accident damages that you deserve.

Why You Can Sue The Insurance Company

The car insurance policy is a contract between the insurer and the insured. If the insurance company fails or refuses to pay a claim which should be paid under the terms of the policy, it is in breach of the contract, and the insured can pursue all available legal remedies for the breach, including filing a lawsuit against the company. Depending on state law and the circumstances of a specific case, damages may also include other expenses such as the costs of the lawsuit.

Auto Insurance Lawyer Handling Coverage Denials

If your auto accident claim is denied, ask your insurance adjuster to put his denial in writing quoting the specific policy language that pertains to your claim. If you disagree with the basis for denial of your claim, your next step would be to consult with an auto accident lawyer who specializes in denied claims. If the lawyer determines you have a reason to dispute the denial they canadvise you on how to act going forward and whether you should first use the insurer’s internal appeals or dispute process, or go directly to a legal action.

How an Accident Attorney can Assist with Dispute Resolution

There are a number of dispute resolution options that a car accident attorney can assist you with, including:

  • Negotiation: Your car accident attorney can enter into negotiations with the insurance company to reopen your case in the event coverage was denied. The accident attorney will be able to put some pressure on the insurance company, and effectively negotiate a fair settlement considering your damages and your policy.
  • Arbitration -Some insurance policies contain a provision allowing or requiring arbitration of disputes between the insurance company and the insured. Arbitration is a procedure for resolving disputes by use of neutral, private individuals (arbitrators) as an alternative to a lawsuit, and it often is a cheaper and faster method of resolving contract disputes as compared with a court proceeding. This procedure usually is not available unless specifically stated in the policy or unless the insurance company and policyholder mutually agree to submit their dispute to arbitration.
  • Small Claims Court – This option is available only if the claim is below the state specified maximium amount. Some states set $2,500 as the maximum limit in small claims court. Others states can go as high as $25,000. The documents that you have already pulled together for your negotiation can serve as documentation in court including any policy reports or photos. Remember however, once you are awarded a settlement in small claims court, it is final! No recourse!

If none of these options above work, your car accident attorney can file a lawsuit against the insurance company to get the full value of your claim. The lawsuit should only be used as a last resort, and on the advice of an attorney. A car accident attorney can also sue the party responsible for your injuries and damages, so ask about that possibility as well. Remember if you plan to file a lawsuit, each state has its own statues pertaining to how long you have to act, so you need to avoid unnecessary delays. Be on the ball and up to speed on your claim, and work with your auto insurance attorney to get them anything they need.

How to Score Cheap Airline Tickets

Instructions

Start your search for cheap airline tickets 4 months before your trip IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Experts believe the airlines start to tighten up their schedules at this time, attempting to get the most seats sold. Clearly, waiting to buy airline tickets 14 days or fewer before the flight is a bad idea because fares will be steep. Airlines know last minute flyers are their bread and butter, and they’ll always be around bringing in the big bucks.

Visit the popular travel discount web sites like Priceline, Orbitz, Expedia, and the popularly named Cheaptickets. Just remember, once you purchase an airline ticket on one of these sites, good luck making a change on it without incurring a hefty surcharge. These sites used to be the one stop shop for airfare, but they’ve stopped offering the deep discounts of the past. A stop on these sites is worth your time, however, in case they have some type of special running.

Go to the individual airline web sites. Most of the airlines are desperate – some are even filing Chapter 11, while others are barely making it month to month. The airlines want your business, and they’d rather have fliers come straight to them, instead of hiting the discounters first, so they are offering the lowest and best prices directly on their web sites. In addition, you are in a better position to change your flight for a minimal fee if you buy directly through the airline. In fact, Southwest charges nothing! (As an aside, many hotels are doing this as well.)

Search the airline sites on the weekend. In general, airlines tend to update their site content multiple times during the week, but only once per day on weekends, and many times sales show up on Friday nights. If you search early Saturday morning, you’ll find that elusive deal you’ve been searching for.

When searching, leave the dates you want to fly flexible. Of course, your dates are probably NOT flexible, but you need to do this so you can see the lowest fares possible. You will waste time if you’ve already found the rock bottom price, yet you continue searching and searching.

Pick a flight that leaves on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Also, make sure you extend your stay long enough that you are at your destination overnight on a Saturday. This one change to your trip can save you mega cash on airline tickets.

If nothing seems to turn up a cheap airline ticket, speak to a travel agent. Many times, they can drum up a deal that the average joe can’t even get near. As a plus, they are lightening fast – travel agents know the airfare system since they deal with it daily. Use this valuable resource to your advantage.

How to Transfer a Credit Card Balance – ABC News #credit,

How to Transfer a Credit Card Balance

Here is what you need to know before and after a credit card balance transfer.

Credit card balance transfers can be an invaluable tool for managing credit card debt. This tactic allows cardholders to move their debt from a card with a high interest rate to one with a lower interest rate, or no interest charges at all.

While it’s not inherently complex to transfer a credit card balance, there are still several important things that cardholders need to be aware of before, during, and after.

Before You Transfer a Credit Card Balance

1. Make sure you keep up with all of your payments. This will allow you to maintain excellent credit and find a balance transfer offer with the best possible terms. The right card may be one you already have with a lower interest rate than the one you are using, or it may be a new card with a 0% APR promotional balance transfer offer. In fact, you may be able to get a promotional financing offer from one of your existing accounts, possibly in the form of a convenience check.

2. Understand all of the terms and conditions of the balance transfer. Know what the card’s credit limit is, its interest rate on balance transfers, and what the balance transfer fee will be. Balance transfer fees are typically 3 percent of the amount transferred, but not always. Chase Slate currently has the only 0 percent APR promotional balance transfer offer with no balance transfer fee, although others can have fees as high as 5 percent.

In the case of promotional financing offers, learn how long you have to complete a qualifying transfer, and the length of the promotional financing period. Typically, promotional balance transfer offers must be completed within 30 days to four months of the account opening, and can last from between six and 18 months. Keep in mind that even though the terms might not explicitly say so, banks will not allow balance transfers between their own accounts.

3. Make a plan. Come up with a sound financial plan for paying down your debt. otherwise your balance transfer is just another form of postponing your obligations.

Making the Transfer

Contact the bank that you are transferring the balance to and ask to perform a balance transfer. Be prepared to give the account information for the other card, and the total amount you want transferred.

After the Transfer

Continue to make at least the minimum payment required from the old credit card, and if you have paid your entire debt, make sure to get a statement from your bank. However, keep your old account open in order to maintain a low credit utilization ratio. which will help your credit score.

Most importantly, stick to the plan that you created to reduce your debt. Recognize that it probably will not be possible to take advantage of promotional financing offers over and over again.

By understanding some of the nuances of balance transfers, cardholders can use these offers to save as much money as possible on their credit card interest charges.

This work is the opinion of the columnist and in no way reflects the opinion of ABC News.

Can Your Car Insurance Improve Your Credit Score? #auto #insurance #credit

How Your Car Insurance Can Improve Your Credit Score

January 26, 2017

You re a good driver, so why is your car insurance premium so high? To start off, you might want to compare car insurance rates, but you probably know that already. Another reason might be your credit score. Almost all car insurers 95 percent, according to FICO check your credit before determining your car insurance premiums. But if your credit s not great, don t despair. Having car insurance can actually improve your credit score over time.

Your credit score vs. your credit-based insurance score

Your credit score is a number between 300 and 850 that represents how much of a risk you are as a borrower. If you ve had bankruptcies, tax liens, unpaid credit card bills or debt collections, your score will be lower and it will be harder for you to get approved for credit.

Don t know your credit score?

You can obtain it online, but be careful not to accidentally purchase a subscription service. CreditKarma.com is one site that provides credit scores without fees or obligations.

Car insurance companies actually consider a different type of score when they re determining policy premiums. This is called your credit-based insurance score. Like your credit score, it s based on your history of paying bills on time and keeping accounts in good standing, as well as any debt you might have. Opening new accounts can ding this score. Insurers do not, however, consider your job history, income or other personal information.

Why do car insurers care about my credit?

Research has shown that your credit-based insurance score is a good predictor of the likelihood you ll file a claim. The lower a person s score, the larger the losses incurred by the insurance company for that person, on average.

Some consumer advocacy groups protest the use of credit-based insurance scores, saying that minorities are disproportionately affected and that most customers don t understand that their credit can affect their insurance premiums. If you live in California. Hawaii or Massachusetts, insurers are prohibited from checking your credit history.

Some insurers, like Nationwide, have an extraordinary life circumstances policy that allows you to request a reconsideration of your premium if your credit has suffered because of a divorce, military deployment, serious illness or other catastrophic event.

How can my car insurance improve my credit score?

First, the bad news. Your car insurance premiums, like your cell phone payment and other monthly bills, don t show up on your credit report. If you fail to pay your car insurance on time, however, that lapse will lower your score. You can get a credit-score boost from your car insurance if you charge it to your credit card and pay it off monthly. Building a history of timely payments is one of the best ways to improve your credit score.

If you re wondering why your credit score seems low, check your credit report for the details. Your full credit report will show you any potentially negative items, such as unpaid accounts or liens. It ll also show you your accounts in good standing. Don t pay for your credit report when you don t have to. Federal law requires each of the three major credit reporting agencies to give you one free credit report each year. You can get your free credit report here .

Closing a Credit Card Can Hurt Your Credit Score #closing #accounts,

#

Closing a Credit Card Can Hurt Your Credit Score

Dear VNO,

Closing an account causes your overall utilization rate to increase. As a result, your credit scores may decrease.

Your utilization rate is also called your balance-to-limit ratio. To calculate it, add up all of your credit card balances and then add up all of your credit limits. Divide the total balances by the total limits.

When you close an account it causes your total balances to be a higher percentage of your total credit limits, which is a sign of risk.

Generally, the lower your utilization rate, the better.

If you are planning to make a major credit purchase in the next three to six months and you don’t have excellent scores, it’s best to leave the account open. However, while your credit scores will likely be impacted for a time, it still might be a good idea to close the account if you are not planning to apply for credit.

Your credit scores should not be the only factor in your decision. If you are having difficulty managing debt you already owe and are tempted to use the card, consider closing it so that you won’t take on more debt. And, a good way to off-set the impact of closing the account is to pay down the balances on your remaining cards.

A good way to get an idea of what is contributing to your credit score is to purchase your Vantage score. It is a small investment that will help you understand how lenders would likely view your credit risk. The score will come with a list of factors that explain what from your credit report is currently affecting your credit score.

The factors are the key to unlocking what you need to do to improve your creditworthiness over time, which will be reflected in better credit scores.

Thanks for asking.

How to save big with online travel auctions

With online auctions, travellers have the ultimate platform to name their prices on airfare, hotels, meals and show tickets — and often fly away with huge savings. But the click-happy should beware. Those who don’t do their homework can end up buying something they don’t want, paying hidden fees or, in some cases, entering a bid that’s higher than retail.

Here are a few tips on how to keep from getting burned and a review of the most popular travel auction sites.

Before you bid

  • Read the fine print. Look for catches such as blackout dates, commissions, fees, surcharges and taxes.
  • Compare the deal with what you could get directly or through other travel websites such as Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity.
  • Look for information on the company offering the trip (on SkyAuction and eBay). If there’s none listed, proceed with caution.
  • Don’t be tempted to ‘buy it now.’ On travel auction sites, there’s often an option to purchase a trip without going through the auctioning process. These get-it-quick prices are rarely a good deal.

Luxury Link

As its name suggests, Luxury Link specializes in high-end trips, from jungle resorts in Bali to spas in Phuket. Those looking for vacation packages with lots of extras can score deep discounts. At the Langham Place Hotel in Hong Kong, a three-night stay for two that includes champagne and chocolate upon arrival, daily breakfasts, a dim sum lunch and nearly US$400 in spa credits retails for US$2,199. In a recent Luxury Link auction, the bidding started at US$857. Registration and bidding are free, but each transaction carries a US$20 fee.

SkyAuction

SkyAuction is a travel auction marketplace where bargain-hunters can book airline tickets, hotel rooms, tours, cruises and all-inclusive vacations in destinations such as Shanghai, Singapore and Vietnam. Bidding for some offerings starts at US$1, and a typical auction lasts 24 hours. Travellers should click with caution — the site has a tarnished record due to complaints about hidden fees, blackout dates and other catches. Still, many say it’s a great bargain resource, especially for last-minute flights and accommodations. Winners pay a US$20 to US$50 commission fee.

eBay

Yes, the Internet auction giant eBay puts vacation packages up for bid. Travellers can click with some comfort knowing that only legitimate travel companies may auction flights, cruises and vacation packages — no Joe Schmoes off the street operating here. (Individuals are limited to auctioning items such as vouchers, gift certificates and, under certain circumstances, timeshares for rent.)

Priceline

Priceline bidders must originate travel in the United States, but can select from a list of international destinations. For flights, hotels and car rentals pick the price and dates you want and Priceline will find tickets that match your needs (within reason) and secure the purchase. Usually without the intervention of Bill Shatner.

How to score great vacation deals through online auctions #buy #travel

How to Score Last-Minute Flights #tucan #travel

How to score last-minute flights

When it comes to scoring last minute flight deals, the time of year and destination of your trip can make or break your travel budget. Popular travel destinations and dates during peak seasons mean it’ll be that much harder to land a deal – so plan accordingly. While booking a flight in advance is usually the best way to find a good deal, it’s not the only way: with the right tools and a bit of flexibility, know-how and a willingness to fly by the seat of your pants, you just might be able to find a cheap last minute flight to your destination.

So, break out your passport, pack your bags and get ready to go, as we help you land a last minute flight with these handy tips:

5 tips to help you find a last minute flight

1. Keep your flight details flexible.

The more flexible you are in your travel details, the more options you’ll have when it comes to finding a cheap flight. Booking a flight at the last minute means you may not have a lot of options in terms of flight times, routes or departure locations, but if you can keep these details of your travel plans flexible, you’ll greatly improve your chances of saving some cash and stretching your travel dollars.

While an early morning flight, an extra layover or added plane changes might add a little inconvenience to your trip, remember how nice it will be to have some extra money to use at your final destination (or at the airport lounge)!

2. Research last minute flight deals from airlines.

When an airline doesn’t have enough demand for a particular flight, staff look to fill up seats – and fast. This is great news for last minute travelers, since these still-empty seats generally translate to cheap flights. Often, airlines will try to fill these seats by posting travel deals to their websites, offering great discounts on last minute flights. Check airline websites directly for last minute travel deals, and don’t forget to sign up for frequent flyer programs and email newsletters, too.

Here at Cheapflights, we scour the web to handpick the best last minute travel deals from airlines, saving you time and money so you can move on to planning the rest of your trip!

3. Consider a vacation package as an alternative.

A good rule of thumb when it comes to landing a last minute deal: take what you can get. Remaining flight options might not match your travel needs or budget, but that doesn’t mean you have to bitterly swallow the cost of waiting until the last minute and take a more expensive flight; nor do you need to abandon your trip entirely – you’ll just have to switch up your last minute flight search tactics.

Consider a vacation package, which often allows you to pick up unsold flight and hotel bundles at incredibly discounted prices. You may even be able to snag an entire vacation package for less than the price of a typical last minute flight along the route you’re considering. That’s like flying standby  only to end up living the high life in an empty first class seat!

4. Check a travel consolidator for last minute flight deals.

Travel consolidators buy up large quantities of tickets from airlines at volume price in order to make sure enough seats are sold in advance to keep the flights at capacity. When consolidators are unable to pre-sell enough seats, they typically look to unload them (at a heavy discount) to those searching for last minute flight deals.

We partner with the world’s top travel consolidators to make it easier for you to find and book great travel deals to your destination, regardless if it is international or domestic.

5. Consider student and youth fares.

Not to be overlooked, student travel deals and youth fares can provide travelers with significant savings on last minute flights.

Student travel deals typically offer greatly discounted rates to popular destinations outside mainland United States such as Europe . whereas youth fares offer discount airfare for fliers between the ages of 18 and 22. The best part? You don’t always have to be a student to get these fantastic deals.

Students can also use their student ID for even more travel discounts .

What are you waiting for? Search for last minute flights and start packing your bags!

Whether you’re looking to go on a business trip, see extended family, or explore the world, Cheapflights has plenty of last minute flight deals and vacation packages to get you there.
