    Marcelo is amazing! My friend and I were struggling to book internal flights in Peru with our US credit cards. We called him and in 5 minutes, he had great flights, tons of advice and he knew so much about travel within the country and what to see. He s got the hookup! I just wish I would have called him from the very beginning before we booked stuff.

    This place was great. We just stopped in to check out what a travel agent could do for us since we didn t have the time or know-how on planning a complex trip through South America. After our first meeting with Cesar, we realized that visiting Americas Travel was the best decision we could have made with regard to this trip.

    Oh my goodness.  Have been using Marcelo at Americas Travel to book airfares to Central and South America for years.  Have always been impressed by his ability to find the BEST fares with the BEST schedules.

    But my experience today takes the cake.  If I was loyal to Marcelo before, I am LOYAL to Marcelo and Americas Travel now and so are all the friends traveling with me today.

    Scheduled to fly to Guatemala this morning with some friends to help build a school and spend some time enjoying the country.  Nightmare experience when we arrived at the SFO.  We barely made it for the cutoff time of checking in but, even though we were there in time, the devil airline refused to check us in and we had people depending on our arrival to work on the school project.  Not only did the freakishly terrible airline refuse to check us in, they refused to help us get on the next flight to Guatemala City.  We were told they would not be able to get us on a flight for a couple of days and each one of us would need to pay $583 for the transfer and new flight fees.

    Enter Marcelo. Americas Travel has Saturday hours. thank goodness!  After beating my head against a brick wall for hours trying to have a rational conversation with the airline agents, I finally gave up and headed to Americas Travel to wait patiently for their 10:30 am Saturday morning opening.

    In 10 minutes, Marcelo took care of EVERYTHING.  We went from stressing out over when and IF we could afford to get to Guatemala to being on the next flight with NO CHANGE IN PRICE.

    Absolutely amazing.  Can t say thank you or recommend them enough!

    Alpha travel is the worst. This has been the absolute worst experience EVER. -0 STARS:(((. NICK AMIN HAS DECIEVED,LIED AND Ultimately put me, my wife and unborn child at the time of the honeymoon but now 11 months old in harms way with no regard to are welfare. A honeymoon package bought from Nick Amin to Puerto Rico over a year ago that ended up in itself to be a disaster due to his negligence and poor follow through has now come back to haunt us again with an 1130.00 dollar debit taken from my wife s acct over a year later from the car rental that we prepaid him for and he has taken over 2 months saying he will take care of it. In the meantime my wife has lost her bank acct due to the ignorance of this man and Alpha travel. We will be contacting the BBB and filing a lawsuit Monday. Please DO NOT USE ALPHA TRAVEL. NICK AMIN IS HORRIBLE!

    I am giving one star,but in reality I would give zero. Nick Amin at Alpha Travel is the worst travel agent in the WORLD. He promised my husband and I Upgrades and extra amenities for our honeymoon vacation that he did not come thru with. He is a liar and very umprofessional, he did not respond to my emails/phonecalls at all when I tried to reach him. I will never use Alpha travel agency again thanks to NICK AMIN. He needs to find another profession like flipping burgers at mcdonalds.

    Fantastic service.  Francisco helped me coordinate travel for a friend and myself in Turkey.  It was a multi-leg trip where my friend was meeting me in Istanbul, then we would continue on to Cappadocia, then Olundeniz, and then go our separate ways.  Francisco was very helpful and patient as we tried to get everything lined up for the best prices (e.g. booking things on my own was at least $1000 more than what Francisco got for me).  He was always very quick to respond to questions and concerns.

    During my trip, there was an error and there was a problem with my return tickets.  I wasn t too concerned because up until this point everything Francisco had done would indicate that he would do everything he could to resolve the situation to my satisfaction.  He put me up in a very nice hotel in Instanbul while the situation was resolved (woohoo, extended vacation) and then got me home on the next available flight.

    I would highly recommend using Francisco and ALFA Travel to anyone taking a vacation.  Great service, communication, and prices.  I am definitely going to be a repeat customer.

    I am really sad to see the bad reviews and hope that people will give World Travel another chance.  Our family has been going to them for the past almost 8 years.  They have always been professional and eager to find cheaper tickets for us.  Everytime we give them our travel plans, they will tell us honestly when would be cheaper and what flight would be best.  4 years ago, I had booked 2 tickets to China for my bf and myself.  2 months prior to our set date, my grandma passed away.  I called them in the middle of the night asking for a change in my flight and they got back to me early in the AM.  There was a small increase in the flight since I was going in the middle of summer instead of fall but they made up for it by rushing our Visa and preparing everything for us!  They are great people and they truely do care.

    horrible, awful.  Joe gave me a price on Friday for international travel, told me the price was good for 3 days.  I called him Friday evening, to purchase the tickets and to give him the exact names on the passport.  He told me just send him an email.  Had to follow up with him myself on Monday.  He didn t bother.

    Then he tells me that the tickets are now much more, because the airlines increased the prices over the weekend.   For the 3 of us, that s over $1000 increase total.

    I am incredibly pissed off.  He guaranteed the price for 3 days, that s apparently a lie.  If they were a reputable business, they should stick to his words, and the original price.  I could have bought the tickets Friday from another agency, he quoted me the better price Friday, compared to the other agency.

    A good, honest, reputable business would stick to their words.  They are either total liars or just have no clue what the airlines were doing.  The other agency told me their prices were only good through midnight Friday.   Either way, this could happen to you too.

    Greek debt relief ‘closer than ever’ but creditors must act, Greek prime minister says

    ATHENS Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras kept up his demand for debt relief from international lenders on Tuesday, saying Athens was close to securing a solution to ease its debt mountain but that creditors must meet there commitments.

    Greece wants to wrap up negotiations with the lenders — the European Union and International Monetary Find — on reforms and on debt relief this month.

    It needs another tranche of bailout money, wants to qualify for inclusion in the European Central Bank’s bond-buying program, and seeks to return to bond markets immediately afterwards.

    “We are closer than ever to a substantial solution on debt relief,” said Tsipras reiterating that Greece had already agreed to apply more austerity after its current bailout expires and it was its lenders’ turn to fulfill their promises of discussions about debt relief.

    “Τhe ball is no longer in our court,” he told reporters referring to lenders’ statements on debt relief in past years.

    Despite Greece’s recent statements and a bailout review agreement at staff level, sources close to the lenders have been less optimistic seeing talks on debt relief lasting longer than May.

    This is because of sharp differences between the IMF and Germany, Europe’s paymaster, over the Greece’s fiscal targets. The former says Greece’s target and debt are unsustainable; the latter, with an election coming, is less willing to drop its hard line.

    After six months of tense talks, Athens and the lenders reached a deal last week on a set of additional reforms the country needs to implement in 2019-20, two years after its current, 86-billion euro bailout program expires.

    Greece wants euro zone finance ministers to approve the reforms’ deal at a scheduled Eurogroup meeting on May 22 — a key condition for unlocking vital loans — but also agree on a formula to make its debt sustainable in the medium-term and long term.

    Debt sustainability is key for the European Central Bank and the Washington-based IMF, which participated financially in the country’s first two rescue packages, but has yet to announce whether it will join Greece’s current program, the third since 2010.

    Greek lawmakers are expected to vote on the new austerity package by May 18, before euro zone finance ministers assess the country’s progress.

    Tsipras, who is sagging in opinion polls and whose term expires in 2019, controls 153 lawmakers in the 300-seat parliament and he is expected to pass the bill.

    But the delays in the negotiations have slowed projected economic growth and have exacerbated reform fatigue after seven years of austerity hurting the government’s popularity further.

    Asked whether he was considering a cabinet reshuffle, Tsipras ruled it out.

    “We are not considering it. Our aim now is to speed up work as much as we can,” he said during a visit at the education ministry, where he announced a planned education reform.

    The Protective Security Coordination Division (PSCD) is a division within the National Protection and Programs Directorate ‘s Office of Infrastructure Protection that provides programs and initiatives to enhance the security and resilience of the nation’s critical infrastructure in an all-hazards environment.

    Mission

    PSCD provides strategic coordination and field operations support to reduce risk to the nation’s critical infrastructure from a terrorist attack or natural disaster. PSCD programs help critical infrastructure owners and operators and state and local responders:

    • Assess vulnerabilities, interdependencies, capabilities, and incident consequences
    • Develop, implement, and provide national coordination for protective programs
    • Facilitate critical infrastructure response to and recovery from all hazards

    This is accomplished through a combination of data collection, assessment, and analysis to give government officials and private sector owners and operators enhancement options to mitigate risk and build resilience. The Division’s activities also inform Department initiatives, such as infrastructure protection grant programs and research and development requirements.

    Field Operations — Protective Security Advisors

    Protective Security Advisors (PSAs) are on-site critical infrastructure and vulnerability assessment specialists deployed in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. They coordinate voluntary vulnerability assessments and training, support incident management, and provide a vital communication channel between state and local officials, private sector owners and operators, and the Department. PSAs also play a pivotal role in the Office of Infrastructure Protection’s initiative to increase critical infrastructure protection and resilience on a regional level .

    “The Cloud” has become a confusing and misunderstood technological development for most small business owners. The term has become overused and spans a number of different services and applications. What’s surprising is despite the ubiquity, availability, reliability and affordability of Cloud solutions, many small business owners are still not making the move. From what we hear, there is still a great deal of confusion and misunderstanding about how cloud computing can fit small business and be cost efficient.

    Larger businesses use the Cloud everyday for common services. Software as a Service, or SaaS, is the most common form of software utilization. With the Cloud model, there is not installation on the user end and the user never actually owns any software: rather than buying a product, the company is renting a service. The number of cloud-based services in the marketplace is massive – and in many cases, small businesses are already using one of these services and may not even be aware that they fall into the cloud service category.

    One of the issues related to cloud based services for small businesses is that the typical small business model for IT support does not best suit a drastic move to newer platforms. Most small businesses still rely on localized, or hard-drive/server-based storage and data programs coupled with a full or part time in-house IT person. This set up does not provide them with sufficient knowledge or resources to make a move into a cloud-based IT environment. While cloud services have become common-place, making the initial switch can be a complex undertaking that requires the help of an outside expert.

    So, what are the benefits to small businesses? There are many:

    1) Low Maintenance: With Cloud services, there is no internal technology to worry about. Much like renting a car, the maintenance, repairs and breakdown assistance are all taken care of by the rental company. The same dynamics apply to cloud services: when a customer signs up, he should be able to use the software without concerns related to maintenance, updates or security. Additionally, there is no need for storage or other investments that downloadable software programs typically require. All of these issues are taken care of by the service provider.

    Also, with Cloud services, small business owners can offset the operational IT work to someone outside of the organization. This puts the onus on the cloud provider for service, upkeep, and costs – and away from the business, which is a where it should be. Cloud computing outsources the technology, reduces the risks and unexpected expenses associated with your in-house IT.

    2) Financial Benefits: The financial benefits from The Cloud are by far the best. Returning to our earlier car rental analogy, purchasing your own vehicle requires a large upfront investment. In this model, the amount of usage is not applicable to the cost. If you only use your car two times a week, you pay the same price as someone who uses the car every single day. Plus you don t get your full investment back even if you sell the car to someone else. Vehicles depreciate as newer; better models come into the marketplace. So as time passes, you own an old car that is outdated, and has accumulated usage and damage that will require repair. A rental car, however, is always a current model, and only incurs a charge when it is needed and used.

    This is the same with cloud services. In the vast majority of cases, there is no upfront fee. Most services charge a manageable, predictable, flat rate monthly fee per user for the software. This allows users to scale up or down as their business requirements dictate. This also allows for easy scalability. As companies take on new staff, it’s simply a matter of switching on a new license to extend to a new user, and similarly turn off the switch when you scale down.

    Like the car rental analogy, you will always be using to the latest, greatest version. And those upgrade are seamless. As new versions or upgrades to a service are released, they can be instantly made available to all subscribers, allowing access to the best in class tools – keeping your business competitive.

    Work from anywhere: Locally installed software that runs only on a computer hampers ones ability to work remotely. In today’s digitally connected world, having access to your services from any location is a must-have option. Today s small business owners work from hotels and airport lounges as well as the office. Cloud services offer 24-hour access from any internet-connected location.

    Collaboration and Communication: Cloud services offer another unique benefit in the way of collaboration enablement and more effective communication. Most if not all Cloud services allow real-time workflows that let multiple users view the same file, document, presentation or spreadsheet at the same time. This aspect of the cloud is one of the most important developments in the last 5 years. Now, companies, via cloud-based tools, can get things accomplished in hours instead of weeks.

    Crisis and disaster recovery: Security measures are costly. One great benefit of the cloud is the economies of scale that the service provider can pass on its customers.     “Cloud” Computing and Thin Client Solutions

    As we find ourselves in an increasingly fast-paced and mobile world, our dependency on technology to provide real-time access to information increases as well. One of the most utilitarian advancements of technology towards this end has been the advent of thin client or ‘Cloud’ based computing systems.

    In a nutshell: A thin client solution allows a computing device (PC, IPad, IPhone, Android device – aka the ‘client’) to ‘dial in’ to the desktop of another computer (aka the ‘server’). The user can then pass keystrokes and mouse clicks to the desktop of that computer, and receive screen shots of what the resulting screen looks like on the other computer (server) to their local computing device (client). It is called ‘thin’ client because you wind up passing very little data over the internet, just screen shots, mouse clicks and keyboard clicks.

    The term ‘Cloud Computing’ appeared around 2006, and encapsulates the notion of thin client computing with the ability to securely store your data ‘somewhere else’. There are a variety of solutions available to your agency that provide thin client access to your local software, and provide automated methods to back up your local data to a secure, offsite location.

    Remote Desktop (aka Terminal Services) is probably the best solution thin client solution for multiple remote users to access your local data for long periods of time. It is also the most expensive requiring the services of a local hardware technician, a Server operating system (Windows Server 2003, 2008, etc. which can cost $800 or more), and Remote Desktop licenses – which run about $80-$100 apiece (although you typically get one license for free). The advantages of using Remote Desktop to dial into a Server based operating system are that it is more secure, less prone to data corruption, and does not require a separate computer for each person logging in.

    There are less expensive (even free) solutions for people that need to occasionally dial in to the home office, or dial in one at a time. These solutions all require that there is a separate computer at the home office, for each person dialing in. Some of these solutions can be found at: Logmein.com. GotoMyPC.com. Join.me. and TeamViewer.com. Each product has advantages and disadvantages regarding ease of use, reliability, supported client devices, and features; and there are several factors such as how printing and file transfers are handled between the ‘Free’ and ‘Pro’ versions of each software that must be taken into account. If you are considering one of these less expensive thin client solutions, it might be money well spent to hire a tech for an hour or so to help you sort out your options.

    Another aspect to Cloud Based computing is the ability to securely backup your data by copying your files over the internet to a secure facility offsite, thus limiting your liability if your local location burns down, or is involved in a natural disaster. Some companies that offer offsite backup solutions for a small fee are Mozy.com. and Dropbox.com. With a little help from a local tech – you can quickly set one of these programs up, and then have peace of mind that your data is stored securely ‘somewhere else’. Just make sure that your tech sets the program up to send the files over the internet at night, otherwise you will see your daytime internet speeds drop dramatically.

    Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) Information

    The CCAP program can subsidize the cost of child care for families that are residents of Rhode Island. CCAP is available for children who are US citizens or legal residents and under age 13. The age can be extended to 18 if the child has special needs.

    Child Care Assistance is available to:

    • Low income families who meet income guidelines and are working a minimum of 20 hours per week at or above Rhode Island’s minimum wage.
    • Families participating in training, apprenticeship, internship, on-the-job training, work experience, work immersion sponsored by the Governor s Workforce Board, who need child care in order to take part in these job readiness/training opportunities.
    • Families participating in the RI Works program.
    • Pregnant/Parenting Teens participating in DHS Youth Success program.

    CCAP is also temporarily available to families through the following Pilot Program

    • Transitional Child Care Pilot (October 1, 2013 – September 30, 2017)

    Allows families already participating in the CCAP program to remain eligible for the subsidy program if their income increases and does not exceed 225% of the federal poverty level.

    Choosing a Child Care Provider

    Families that qualify for the CCAP program can choose their own child care provider. The CCAP program will reimburse authorized child care providers up to a certain amount. Most eligible families share in the cost of care, called a co-payment, based on their income, family size and the number of children receiving child care subsidies. This fee is paid directly to the child care provider.

    Parents can select the child care provider of their choice and, if necessary, may use more than one provider to meet their child care needs so long as the hours of care do not overlap. Options for child care include:

    • A DCYF licensed child care center or before/after-school program
    • A DCYF licensed family child care home
    • A license-exempt provider (such as a family member) that has received approval from DHS

    In January 2012, the European Commission proposed a comprehensive reform of data protection rules in the EU .

    On 4 May 2016, the official texts of the Regulation and the Directive have been published in the EU Official Journal in all the official languages. While the Regulation will enter into force on 24 May 2016, it shall apply from 25 May 2018. The Directive enters into force on 5 May 2016 and EU Member States have to transpose it into their national law by 6 May 2018 .

    The objective of this new set of rules is to give citizens back control over of their personal data, and to simplify the regulatory environment for business. The data protection reform is a key enabler of the Digital Single Market which the Commission has prioritised. The reform will allow European citizens and businesses to fully benefit from the digital economy.

    Whenever you open a bank account, join a social networking website or book a flight online, you hand over vital personal information such as your name, address, and credit card number.

    What happens to this data? Could it fall into the wrong hands? What rights do you have regarding your personal information?

    Everyone has the right to the protection of personal data.

    Under EU law, personal data can only be gathered legally under strict conditions, for a legitimate purpose. Furthermore, persons or organisations which collect and manage your personal information must protect it from misuse and must respect certain rights of the data owners which are guaranteed by EU law.

    Every day within the EU, businesses, public authorities and individuals transfer vast amounts of personal data across borders. Conflicting data protection rules in different countries would disrupt international exchanges. Individuals might also be unwilling to transfer personal data abroad if they were uncertain about the level of protection in other countries.

    Therefore, common EU rules have been established to ensure that your personal data enjoys a high standard of protection everywhere in the EU. You have the right to complain and obtain redress if your data is misused anywhere within the EU.

    The EU’s Data Protection Directive also foresees specific rules for the transfer of personal data outside the EU to ensure the best possible protection of your data when it is exported abroad.
