E-Travel Services Requirements

When is E-Travel Required?

  • Booking travel on scheduled air carriers
  • Reserving rental cars
  • Full service travel arrangements that include air, hotel, and/or car

Air travel for all state funded executive branch travelers, including board and commission members, clients, witnesses, etc. is arranged by E-Travel.

Use E-Travel Online when possible. Create your own prelim by using the research option and email the itinerary to the approver and/or traveler. Once approved, a ticket is purchased using E-Travel Online. A final itinerary will be sent to the emails in the travel profile.

Alternatively call the travel management contractor (TMC) at 1-866-762-8728 or 907-500-4292 to make a reservation. A preliminary or final itinerary will be sent depending on approval status.

When is E-Travel optional?

The use of E-Travel is optional for itineraries to rural communities that are served by one of the following carriers and do not include segments operated by Alaska Airlines, RAVN Alaska, or PenAir. Rural carriers that are not included in the list below must be booked through an E-Travel agent to ensure certificate and licensing requirements have been met and are current.

  • Complimentary upgrades that are paper must be presented at the airport. The travel agency can process upgrades if they are in E-certificate format as well as MVP and MVP Gold status upgrades.

Routing changes/personal deviation and personal credit cards policies are outlined in AAM 60.080.

Hotels require a direct bill application from the requestor before authorizing this type of payment.

Globally, the Germanic language is dominated by three autonomous national varieties in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, dialects within each country and minority languages of ethnic or migrants into other countries where Germanic language is spoken.

Although there are diversities, the diversity in the Germanic language is not to the same extent as English. The actual differences between national varieties, in terms of phonology, vocabulary and grammar, are only of flavour rather than substance. It is this difference that becomes a marker of national identity.

Spanish Translation

The standard Spanish language is also called Castilian. In its earliest documented form, and up through approximately the 15th century, the language is customarily called Old Spanish. From approximately the 16th century on, it is called Modern Spanish. Spanish of the 16th and 17th centuries is sometimes called “classical” Spanish, referring to the literary accomplishments of that period.

Origin of Spanish Language Translation Standard Spanish originated as a continuation of spoken Latin in northern Spain, in the 8th and 9th centuries AD. This northern dialect spread to the south, where it almost entirely replaced or absorbed the provincial dialects, and was influenced by Mozarabic (the Romance speech of Christians living in Moorish territory) and medieval Judeo-Spanish (Ladino). These other languages all but vanished in the Iberian Peninsula by the late 16th century.

Home Networking Do-It-Yourself For Dummies

Various wireless security protocols were developed to protect home wireless networks. These wireless security protocols include WEP, WPA, and WPA2, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. In addition to preventing uninvited guests from connecting to your wireless network, wireless security protocols encrypt your private data as it is being transmitted over the airwaves.

Wireless networks are inherently insecure. In the early days of wireless networking, manufacturers tried to make it as easy as possible for end users. The out-of-the-box configuration for most wireless networking equipment provided easy (but insecure) access to a wireless network.

Although many of these issues have since been addressed, wireless networks are generally not as secure as wired networks. Wired networks, at their most basic level, send data between two points, A and B, which are connected by a network cable. Wireless networks, on the other hand, broadcast data in every direction to every device that happens to be listening, within a limited range.

Following are descriptions of the WEP, WPA, and WPA2 wireless security protocols:

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP): The original encryption protocol developed for wireless networks. As its name implies, WEP was designed to provide the same level of security as wired networks. However, WEP has many well-known security flaws, is difficult to configure, and is easily broken.

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA): Introduced as an interim security enhancement over WEP while the 802.11i wireless security standard was being developed. Most current WPA implementations use a preshared key (PSK), commonly referred to as WPA Personal. and the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP, pronounced tee-kip ) for encryption. WPA Enterprise uses an authentication server to generate keys or certificates.

Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 (WPA2): Based on the 802.11i wireless security standard, which was finalized in 2004. The most significant enhancement to WPA2 over WPA is the use of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for encryption. The security provided by AES is sufficient (and approved) for use by the U.S. government to encrypt information classified as top secret it s probably good enough to protect your secrets as well!

Leak Detection Methods to Find A Leak

Acoustic profiling uses ground and pipe sensitive microphones to enhance the sound of the leak. This method can help in pinpointing precise leak location.

Is a way of finding and pinpointing leaks in water pipes. A leak in a pipe under pressure creates noise that travels through the pipe walls, the surrounding ground and along the contents of the pipe. Correlators are a very accurate sound testing device which are used to identify the acoustic frequency caused when a pipe is leaking. The correlator uses two identical sensors located along the pipe to calculate the leek location by logging the signal delay, sensor distance and the sound velocity.

Tracer Gas
The trace gas, a safe mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen, is introduced into the pipe with the suspected leak. The gas, is the lightest in the atmosphere and is made up of of small molecules. The gas will exit at the leak and make its way to the surface where it is detected using gas sensitive detection pobes.

Thermal Imaging
Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to see and measure thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermography cameras can identify problem areas that can’t be seen with the naked eye, detecting hidden water leaks. The infrared inspection camera can detect not only hidden water leaks and their origin, but also moisture that cannot be physically reached with moisture meters. Read more

Reflective Practice in Social Work — The Ethical Dimension

Recently, I received an urgent voicemail message from a hospital social worker: “Please get back to me as soon as possible. I have a meeting tomorrow morning with our head of human resources, and I’m very nervous about it.”

Later in the day, I connected with the social worker and learned the following: He had been employed by the hospital for seven years and had never been disciplined. His current predicament began when his immediate supervisor called him in to discuss concerns about possible boundary violations and an alleged inappropriate dual relationship with a hospital patient. The social worker explained to me that in his personal life he is actively involved in a community-based group of parents who adopted children from China. The group sponsors a wide range of activities to support and enhance the children’s ethnic identity. Through this involvement, the social worker said, he and his wife had become very friendly with several other adoptive parents.

About three weeks earlier, one of the parents who had become a good friend was admitted to the social worker’s hospital for treatment of a chronic, debilitating infection. The friend did not receive social work services. During the friend’s hospital stay, the social worker occasionally stopped by his room to say hello and inquire about the friend’s health. The patient’s attending physician had collaborated professionally with the social worker in other hospital cases and was well aware of the patient’s friendship with the social worker.

One afternoon during the patient’s hospital stay, the physician contacted the social worker and explained that the patient was distraught after having just learned that he was diagnosed with bone cancer. According to the social worker, the physician asked the social worker to visit the patient and offer emotional support. The social worker visited the patient in his room and spent about an hour helping his friend process the distressing medical news.

The social worker documented this patient encounter in the hospital chart. During a random quality-control review of social workers’ chart entries, the hospital’s social work supervisor read the note and became concerned because the social worker had not been assigned to provide social work services to this patient. The supervisor learned of the social worker and patient’s friendship and notified the director of human resources, who documented this “incident” in the social worker’s personnel record and asked to meet with the social worker.

The Nature of Reflective Practice
In 1983, the late scholar Donald Schon published his influential and groundbreaking book The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action . Schon’s thesis, based on his extensive empirical research, was that the most skilled and effective professionals have the ability to pay critical attention to the way they conduct their work at the same time that they do their work. Schon coined the terms “knowing-in-action” and “reflection-in-action,” which suggest that some professionals can take a step back and think hard about what they are doing while they are doing it. The concepts are akin to the widely used social work concept “use of self.”

Ordinarily the concepts of knowing-in-action and reflection-in-action are applied to practitioners’ cultivation and use of technical skill, whether in surgery, architecture, town planning, engineering, dentistry, or psychotherapy. In my view, and as the above case demonstrates, social workers would do well to extend the application of these compelling concepts to their identification and management of ethical issues in the profession. Ideally, effective practitioners would have the ability to recognize and address ethical issues and challenges as they arise in the immediate context of their work, not later when someone else points them out. Put another way, social workers would have a refined “ethics radar” that increases their ability to detect and respond to ethical issues.

Of course, the most important benefit is client protection. However, an important by-product is self-protection, that is, the increased likelihood that social workers will protect themselves from ethics-related complaints.

Implementing Reflective Ethics Practice
Certainly the hospital social worker who called me with panic in his voice would have benefited from reflective ethics practice and highly sensitive ethics radar. Had he reflected on the ethical dimensions of the boundary challenges that emerged when he interacted with his friend and hospital patient, it is likely that this well-meaning practitioner would have avoided his unpleasant encounter with the human resources department. The social worker’s decision to visit his friend was not the error; that was a humane and compassionate gesture. The error, rather, was not reflecting on his role in that moment and managing the boundaries carefully, including discussing them with his friend and his supervisor.

In my experience, ethics-related reflection-in-action entails three key elements.

Knowledge: Skillful management of many ethical dilemmas requires knowledge of core concepts and prevailing standards. Ethics concepts are addressed in professional literature and standards exist in several forms, including relevant codes of ethics, agency policies, statutes, and regulations. For example, the National Association of Social Workers’ Codeof Ethics includes explicit standards pertaining to boundaries, dual relationships, and conflicts of interest (especially section 1.06). It would have been best for the hospital-based social worker to consult relevant literature and standards with regard to conflicts that can arise when a social worker encounters a friend or social acquaintance in the work setting. The hospital’s personnel policies also prohibit dual relationships that involve conflicts of interest.

In some cases, although not all, statutes and regulations address ethical issues. In the United States, both federal and state laws address various ethical issues, such as confidentiality, privileged communication, informed consent, and social workers’ ethical conduct. Such laws would not have been particularly helpful in the hospital social worker’s case, but often they are helpful and critically important, for example, when social workers must decide whether to disclose confidential information without clients’ consent to protect a third party from harm or whether parental consent is necessary to provide services to minors who seek help with substance abuse but insist that this information be withheld from their parents.

Transparency: Reflective social workers who sense an ethical issue share their concern with supervisors, colleagues, and appropriate administrators. An effective way to protect clients and practitioners alike is to avoid any suggestion that the ethical issue is being handled “in the dark.” Such clarity demonstrates social workers’ good faith efforts to manage ethical dilemmas responsibly. When appropriate, clients should be included in the conversation.

Process: Although some ethical decisions are clear-cut, many are not. The hospital social worker who contacted me was unsure about the best way to manage his involvement with a good friend who had become a patient. Unfortunately, the social worker did not notify his supervisor about the dilemma or seek consultation. He documented his lengthy hospital-room encounter with the patient, but doing so in the client’s hospital chart created the impression that the social worker was functioning in his professional capacity, not as a friend. My hunch is that had the social worker notified his supervisor of his friendship with the patient and made clear that any contact with the patient occurred as a friend, the social worker may have avoided any adverse personnel issues. What I have learned is that many ethical decisions are not simple events; they require a considerable, often painstaking, process.

During the course of the profession’s history, social workers have refined the art of reflective practice. Historically, these skills have been applied primarily to clinical, policy, advocacy, and administrative functions. Clearly, reflective practice should extend to ethics as well.

The Arc of San Diego’s Leisure Express Local provides community based therapeutic recreation activities for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in San Diego. The goal is to provide recreation activities that aide in improving skills such as: socialization, communication, health wellness, independence, and self-esteem. Each activity maintains a minimum 1:3 staff to participant ratio to ensure safety and personal needs are met. Activities are held Friday evening to Sunday evening. A monthly calendar is published and contains activites such as: rock climbing, Padres baseball games, kayaking, arts crafts, cooking classes, hiking, movies, dances, plays, Chargers football games, trips to the San Diego Zoo, and much more.

Leisure Express Trip Travel

The Arc of San Diego’s Leisure Express Trip Travel offers a wide range of quality vacations for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disablities. Our goal is to provide diverse travel opportunities to support and empower individuals to achieve their life goals. Each trip maintains a minimum 1:4 staff to participant ratio to ensure safety and all personal needs are met. If additional assistance is needed, we can provide more personalized support for an additional fee. The cost of each vacation includes airfair and/or transportation from San Diego, hotel/lodging accommodations, tour packages, admission to events selected by the travelers, and all meals. Payment plans can be arranged.

The Arc of San Diego’s traditional resident summer camp for children, teens, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities offers a relaxing week at a local residential camp. Days are filled with swimming, hiking, sports, field trips, sing-a-longs, talent shows, dances, arts crafts, and carnivals. Staff to camper ratios are based on each individual’s needs, but do not exceed a 1:5 ratio. Camp-A-Lot is accredited by the American Camp Association. Developed exclusively for the camp profession, the ACA focuses on program quality, health and safety issues, and requires us to review all areas of our camp program yearly.

Having a family member or caregiver present on your behalf provides support, comfort and ease with this transition. Whether present for the actual move, you should be involved in choosing which keepsakes stay and go. Planning is key, so start early with a simple colour-coded system (green dots for sold or give away, red for keeping [within the family or one’s new residence], and yellow for later consideration). This can help with the overwhelming stress of making all decisions at once, and may transform some of the experience into a positive, pleasant event. Gifting, donating, are good things to focus on as moving day approaches.

Picking a slow day to move could save hundreds of dollars, and be applied to your new home. Add too, it makes for a more relaxed environment in moving. Have the movers pack all the breakables, as these are covered by their insurance, and let family pack books and non breakable items.

Field Notice: Cisco IOS TFTP Client Cannot Transfer Files Larger than 16MB in Size

Problem Description

This problem is two-fold.

Firstly, current Cisco IOS? images do not support more than 16MB in size for Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP).

The second issue is that most UNIX TFTP servers have this classic bug but no one has noticed this before now. Solaris UNIX TFTP servers, which are those most widely used, do not support TFTP file sizes of more than 16MB. Linux and FreeBSD support file sizes at 32MB.

Cisco has created a fix for this, which is identified by Cisco Bug ID DDTS CSCds46280.


Cisco IOS Software TFTP support can upload or download a file of16MB or smaller in size. In the past, this has not been an issue, due to Cisco IOS image sizes being smaller than 16MB.

Problem Symptoms

Shown below is a standard practice used to TFTP Cisco IOS images from a TFTP server to a Cisco device. The symptom occurs during the download. The Cisco IOS image has not 100% downloaded and the system displays the following error message:

If you miss the download screen, you can verify if 100% of the file has been downloaded using the show flash command. If the file has not been downloaded 100%, the output displays an ED and type as follows:

This problem occurs with both TFTP clients on the IOS routers and the TFTP server on Solaris UNIX. The interim solution is to use remote copy protocol (rcp) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) copy commands on IOS routers and copy the image file into the flash memory of the IOS routers. See below for details on rcp and FTP image download instructions. We also look at how to verify an image in a Cisco router.

You can copy a system image from an rcp network server to a Flash memory file system.

If you copy the configuration file to a personal computer which is being used as a file server, this computer must support remote shell protocol (rsh).

The rcp protocol requires a client to send a remote username on each rcp request to a server. When you copy an image from the router to a server using rcp, the Cisco IOS software sends the first valid username from those listed below:

The remote username specified in the copy command, if one is specified.

The username set by the ip rcmd remote-username command, if the command is configured.

The remote username associated with the current TTY (terminal) process. For example, if the user is connected to the router through Telnet and has been authenticated through the username command, the router software sends the Telnet username as the remote username.

The router host name.

For the rcp copy command to execute successfully, you must define an account on the network server for the remote username. If the server has a directory structure, the system writes or copies the configuration file or image relative to the directory associated with the remote username on the server. The path for all files and images to be copied begins at the remote user’s home directory. For example, if the system image resides in the home directory of a user on the server, specify that user’s name as the remote username.

Copying from an rcp Server to Flash Memory Tasks

To copy an image from an rcp server to Flash memory, first make a backup copy of the current system or bootstrap software image, then use the following commands while in privileged EXEC mode:

Reply to any router prompts for additional information or confirmation. This prompt depends on how much information you provide in the copy command and the current setting of the file prompt command.

Example: Copying From an rcp Server to Flash

In the following example, we are copying a system image named mysysim1 from the netadmin1 directory on the remote server named SERVER1.CISCO.COM, with an IP address of, to Flash memory.

To ensure that enough Flash memory is available to accommodate the system image you are copying, the Cisco IOS software allows you to erase the contents of Flash memory first.

Example: Copying From an rcp Server to Partitioned Slot0

In the following example, we are copying the file /tftpboot/gate/c3600-i-mz on the rcp server at to partition 3 in slot 0. Since no username is specified, the router uses the default rcp remote username.

Copying an Image from an FTP Server to a Flash Memory File System

Let’s look at how to copy a system image from an FTP server to a Flash memory file system.

Understanding the FTP Username and Password

The FTP protocol requires a client to send a remote username and password on each FTP request to a server. When you copy a configuration file from the router to a server using FTP, the Cisco IOS software sends the first valid username from those listed below:

The username specified in the copy command, if a username is specified.

The username set by the ip ftp username command, if the command is configured.

The router sends the first valid password from those listed below:

The password specified in the copy command, if a password is specified.

The password set by the ip ftp password command, if the command is configured.

The username and password must be associated with an account on the FTP server. If you are writing to the server, you must make sure that the FTP server is properly configured to accept the FTP write request from the user on the router.

If the server has a directory structure, the configuration file or image is written to or copied from the directory associated with the username on the server. For example, if the system image resides in the home directory of a user on the server, specify that user’s name as the remote username.

Use the ip ftp username and ip ftp password commands to specify a username and password for all copies. Include the username in the copy command if you want to specify a username for that copy operation only.

Copying from an FTP Server to Flash Memory Tasks

To copy a system image from an FTP server to a Flash memory file system, first make a backup copy of the current software image or bootstrap image, then use the following commands while in EXEC mode:

TFTP Server Defect on Solaris

Sun’s TFTP server and client programs (/usr/ucb/tftp and /usr/sbin/in.tftpd) both have a 16MB file size limitation. SunOs TFTP and in.tfptd programs (unlike Linux, FreeBSD, and others) seem to use a signed short value instead of unsigned short value for the tftp block numbers. This means that they support up to 32768 block numbers, whereas the maximum upper limit for TFTP block numbers is 2 x 32768 = 65536 blocks (each block is 512 bytes long). This effectively reduces the maximum file size of Sun’s Solaris 2.5.1/2.6 to 16MB instead of 32MB.

Solaris 2.6 patch for TFTP #107565-02 does not have this bug fixed at the time this Field Notice was written.

Gartner Publishes Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services, Worldwide 2013 #gartner,

Gartner, Inc. has just released their latest update of their Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services, Worldwide 2013 and the top 10 MPS providers worldwide remain the same, including last year’s new entry, Kyocera!

Gartner defines Managed Print Services (MPS) as a service provided to ‘optimise or manage a company’s document output to meet certain objectives’. Those objects could be cost efficiency, increase productivity, or to lessen the load on IT support. MPS is primarily implemented by corporate companies with over 500 users, although smaller enterprises are discovering the benefits of investing in an MPS solution, particularly those that have several locations worldwide. But for this report, Gartner limited it to providers that are single source across a minimum of two regions.

MPS covers a range of services including scanning, document capture, copy centres, telecommuters, workflow optimisation including restructuring of document workflows, document security, reducing print volumes and automating paper-intensive document processes, enterprise content management services and MFPs (multifunction products).

MPS is one of the fastest growing service markets with the top 10 providers of MPS services massing $8.9 billion in direct revenue, demonstrating a worldwide growth of 10%, with SMEs showing the quickest growth overall. Developing regions, such as Asia/Pacific which shows growth at 19%, are also taking up MPS exponentially. As trends continue towards mobility, cloud computing, handling of large amounts of data and analytics, as well as social media, organisations are required to adapt. As workers become more mobile yet demand better access to applications and the sharing of documents, there is a need for automating imaging and print services towards the paperless office.

Criteria for inclusion in the Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services, Worldwide report is strict and only vendors that meet all the criteria are included. Their evaluation criteria are based on two areas: the Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. Ability to Execute examines the providers’ level of success in delivering results, both currently and in the future, and incorporates the quality and efficacy of their processes, methods, systems or procedures to enable competitive performance that is efficient, effective, and affects revenue in a positive way, retention and reputation.

Gartner identified 10 MPS providers that they considered to be market leaders in the field of Managed Print Services, Worldwide, as follows:

1. The largest MPS provider in 2012 was Xerox, and by quite a margin at $2.75 billion in revenue. Xerox work in partnership with Fuji Xerox to support the Asia/Pacific region; and their Enterprise Print Services (EPS) and Xerox Partner Print Services plans are the most popular.
2. Second largest in 2012 is Ricoh, bringing in $2.09 billion in revenue, utilising their wide range of A3 MFPs. In 2009, they launched their Managed Document Services and a single service plan that offers a range of options and variations that can be adapted to meet a customer’s requirements.
3. HP was the third largest in 2012 with revenue of $1.52 billion, but with more customers than other MPS providers. Again, their offering is single source but it is adaptable with additions that can be tailored to a company’s needs. HP also works with Canon and other partners to ensure that what they offer is what the customer requires.
4. Fourth largest was Lexmark who brought in revenue in 2012 of $958 million, and who specialise in organisations that carry out a large amount of process-driven printing, for example, the banking, retail and securities, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing and the public sector.
5. HP partners, Canon, are the fifth largest MPS provider and enjoyed revenue of $810 million in 2012. Canon’s MPS business is built upon their massive MFP sales and service organisations, and is based around their Managed Document Services (MDS) A3-centric product.
6. Sixth largest is Konica Minolta, totalling $391 in MPS revenue in 2012 worldwide and also registers one of the highest growth rates at 48%, principally in Western Europe and North America. Konica Minolta’s Optimised Print Services (OPS) offering has been particularly successful within Europe.
7. Toshiba came in seventh posting MPS revenue of $163 million. Their Toshiba Encompass incorporates MPS and they are also a big supplier of A3-style MFPs, which are often placed in MPS programs.
8. Pitney Bowes is the eighth largest MPS provider and registered MPS revenue of $154 million (according to Gartner’s estimate). Having sold off their UK and Ireland operations, their business is mainly concentrated in North America.
9. Ninth in the list is ARC Document Solutions, with revenue of $72 million. ARC, a large MPS provider, is not an equipment manufacturer and it isn’t closely linked with a single manufacturer.
10. Last in the top 10 of MPS providers is Kyocera. Having improved and up-scaled their MPS program – Managed Document Services (MDS) – recently, it first qualified for inclusion in the Magic Quadrant report last year and whilst their biggest market is North America, their MPS program is more widely known in Western Europe.

If you’re a medium to large organisation looking to evaluate and identify suitable MPS providers, then Gartner’s report is a good starting point; but remember, just because Managed Print Services is the buzzword (or buzzwords!) doesn’t mean that it is right for your organisation. So assess and evaluate based upon your specific needs as a business.

What They Do:

Accountants and auditors prepare, analyze, and verify financial reports and taxes and monitor information systems that furnish this information to managers in business, industry, and government.

The major fields of accounting are public, management, and government accounting. Public accountants have their own businesses or work for public accounting firms. They perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients, who may be corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations, or individuals. Management accountants (also called industrial, corporate, or private accountants) record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Other responsibilities include budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management Government accountants and auditors maintain and examine the records of government agencies and audit private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulations or taxation.

Within each field, accountants often concentrate on one aspect of accounting. For example, many public accountants concentrate on tax matters, such as preparing individual income tax returns and advising companies of the tax advantages and disadvantages of certain business decisions.

Increasing numbers of accounting graduates are working in private corporations. Management accountants analyze and interpret the financial information corporate executives need to make sound business decisions. Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. Each year, several hundred thousand jobs for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks will become available as these clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. The large size of the occupation ensures plentiful job openings, including many opportunities for temporary and part-time work.

How Much Schooling, Training, or Skill Development:

Most professional accountant and internal auditor positions require at least a bachelor s degree in accounting or a related field. However, many employers are beginning to prefer candidates who have earned a master s degree. A variety of bookkeeping and paraprofessional accounting jobs are available for people with less than an associate degree. There appears to be a growing trend for these jobs to request a minimum of an associate degree.

Accountants traditionally have been detail-oriented and that is still important, but modern accountants require a much broader set of abilities. The modern accountant needs highly developed analytical skills to deal with the ever-changing business environment. Good oral and written communication skills are a necessity. Interpersonal skills are highly desirable. The ability to effectively work with computers is a necessity. Computerization lessened the focus on repetitive, detail-oriented work in accounting in favor of analysis and communication.

Based on recommendations made by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, most states currently require CPA candidates to complete 150 semester hours of college coursework. Students already holding a bachelor s degree in another field who earn an associate degree in accounting may meet the educational qualifications for the CPA examination and entry into professional levels of accounting. In Michigan, the 150-hour law can be met with LCC classes if the student has a 4-year degree already.

Freedom Debt Relief (FDR) claims to be a leader in the debt-settlement industry and says it has helped consumers erase more than $500 million in debt since 2003. (FDR is also an umbrella group that includes, Freedom Financial Network, Freedom Tax Relief, and several others.) It operates like other settlement companies often do. Customers deposit about 15 percent of the amount they owe into a bank account and give FDR power of attorney so that it can access the money to settle their debts.

A 2009 lawsuit brought by the district attorney’s office in San Mateo, Calif. charged that the company often did not even contact all of the consumers’ creditors to negotiate a settlement. After months of being told FDR was settling their accounts, many consumers found that creditors had sent their accounts to a collection agency or had initiated legal actions against them, the suit alleged. It also charged that many clients never finished the debt-relief program, even after months or years. But Freedom Debt Relief continued to charge them for administrative and service fees for about the first 18 months the accounts were open. In addition, the suit said, customers who wanted to find out the status of their settlements were often rebuffed by the company, and some were denied the money-back guarantee it advertises.

To settle the lawsuit, FDR agreed to pay the San Mateo County district attorney’s office and the California Department of Corporations $450,000 in fees and court costs and $500,000 in refunds to customers without admitting wrongdoing.

As a result of the suit, an earlier complaint by the California Department of Corporations alleging that FDR operated in the state for seven years without a license, in violation of a 2002 desist and refrain order, was withdrawn. FDR has also been forced to refund money to customers in Colorado and Rhode Island. And New York’s attorney general is investigating FDR and 13 other debt-settlement firms.

The bottom line

People who are deep in debt should first talk with each creditor to see if it has a plan for hardship cases that might allow them to reduce their payments. If collection agencies are calling, try to negotiate a reduction in principal, which is what a debt-resolution company promises to do. If you’re successful, you may have to pay taxes on the total that was forgiven.

While this is not a bad idea, you may sometimes have to wait for weeks or even months before you get your money back. Then there are those that pay the repair shop directly and almost immediately. For purposes of convenience, never purchase warranties that don’t pay the shop directly.

The Student Accounts Office posts the initial billing statement for each semester to QuikPAY approximately 30 days before the bill is due (July for the fall semester; November for the spring semester). Additional billing statements are posted to QuikPAY periodically during the billing cycle. Students are notified whenever a new statement is posted via their MyKSC e-mail.


The QuikPAY service is available to all active, matriculated KSC students. The student is in sole control of his/her QuikPAY account; s/he determines who should have access to billing information and payment privileges. However, students can also authorize others (e.g. parents, grandparents) to view billing statements and submit student account payments via the web on their behalf.

Setting up an Authorized Payer

Anyone the student wants to have access to see/pay his or her bill should be established as an authorized payer on QuikPAY. You can set someone up as an authorized payer via the following steps:

  • Login to MyKSC
  • Go to QuikPAY (Student Services Billing Payment).
  • Click on the Authorize Payers link (left margin).
  • Click on the Add New button.
  • Follow the steps to create an authorized payer.

Once the student identifies an authorized payer, the student must notify that payer of the unique user name and password s/he will use to access the student s account information. The authorized payer will be able to see all facets of the billing statement, including (but not limited to) all individual charge and payment entries, the student s KSC ID number, and the student s address.

Students will receive eBill notifications via their KSC email each time a new eBill is available on QuikPAY. Authorized payers will also be sent eBill notifications to the email address listed in their profile.

Billing statements are posted to QuikPAY periodically throughout the billing cycle. Once the billing deadline has passed, QuikPAY accounts are updated when there is an outstanding balance. Notification is sent via KSC email when the QuikPAY account is updated.

Remember that your vehicle travels unlocked this obviuously means there are security risks. Do not leave anything of value in your vehicle. We take no responsibilty for any alleged missing items under any circumstances.

Does the car have to be in driveable condition in order to transport it?

Yes, and please ensure that the battery is fully charged and that there is fuel in the vehicle. An extra charge applies for non drivable vehicles.

Does the car go on a truck or on a car carrier and does it transport more than one car?

Cars are transported on specialist automotive carriers equipped to move several vehicles at a time. Smaller trucks are often used to collect/deliver vehicles from or to the depot. Rail may be used on part or all of a long distance routes.

How much notice do I need to give for you to pick up my car?

Generally pick ups from your door require 1 to 3 days from when payment is received. Depot drop offs are available with 1 to 2 days notice depending on depot capacity. Country and rural areas may only be serviced once or twice per week.
