Sediment buildup is the most common issue that affects water heaters. When the water is heated, limescale, and other minerals like magnesium build up along the tank walls. What s the best way to fix this? Call Fort Myers Water Heater today to schedule your water heater inspection.

In addition to inspecting for sediment buildup, you should check your water heater s burner every now and then. The flame should be blue with yellow tips. If it appears more yellow-orange, this is a sign of incomplete burning which could lead to not only poor water heater performance, but also the production of deadly carbon monoxide! Don t put your family at risk if your water heater isn t burning properly, call Fort Myers Water Heaters for water heater repair right away!

When Should I Replace My Water Heater?
Most hot water heaters will last around eight to 12 years. Once they ve been around for this long, they start to lose their efficiency and become more prone to problems. Most people wait until their water heater has catastrophically failed before shopping around for a replacement water heater, there are benefits to upgrading your unit before it dies!

Water heaters are among the top energy users in your home, in many cases accounting for as much as 25 percent of your home s energy use. As they get older and less efficient, this number climbs even higher, and the units get more and more expensive to operate.

Don t wait until your hot water heater fails or becomes inefficient before you consider a replacement. Many options exist today that will not only keep your home running comfortably but also save you money.

Southwest rolled out a 72-hour, nationwide fare sale Tuesday (June 2) in which the price of its flights are roughly based to distance. Dozens of the carrier’s shortest routes are available for fares of less than $100 round trip.

The sale covers travel from Aug. 25 through Dec. 16, though some holiday periods are blacked out. And bargain hunters must act quick; the sale concludes at the end of the day Thursday (June 4).

Southwest has previously rolled out similar fare sales in which fares were pegged to mileage thresholds. In past years, for example, Southwest ‘s sales priced flights of 500 miles or less at $49 each way and increased from there. Flights of 501 to 1,000 miles cost $99 each way and flights of 1,001 to 1,500 miles cost $129 each way. Flights of more than 1,500 miles went for $149 each way.

Why Southwest Airlines Is No Longer Just About Cheap Flights #one

#the cheapest flights
#

Related

The U.S. s biggest low fare airline appears to be experiencing an identity crisis. In Southwest s new ad campaign, there s no silly humor and no mention of bags fly free or cheap flight prices. The message is that this is a different airline — one that longtime customers may feel is hard to recognize or even like.

The campaign is a departure in tonality for Southwest, and we hope it inspires our customers, Southwest executive Bob Jordan said in a press release announcing its new commercial, which debuted during the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Southwest has changed a lot over the years, we keep getting better, and we want customers to see us in a new light.

The ad will come as a shock to TV viewers, according to the Chicago Business Journal . because of the disappearance of all the silly, cartoonish aspects of its advertising. The ad features no goofball humor, nor any messages about Southwest s low fares or its value-laden bags fly free policies that tell the masses you are now free to move about the country. Instead, the commercial is filled with images of people diligently going about their jobs, as well as heartwarming clichés like “The American dream just doesn t happen. It s something you have to work for.

The image of Southwest as a plucky upstart taking on the industry giants is, in other words, totally gone. We re left with the Southwest logo and a voice-over claiming its status as America s largest domestic airline.

Among travel insiders, the ad is being viewed as a sign of a possible identity crisis within Southwest. The CrankyFlier bashes the commercial, which is probably unsurprising given the name of the blog. This ad is just pure bleh, the post states. It says nothing to me. This could be for Southwest or any other legacy airline.

No song lyrics are audible during the ad, but the CrankyFlier s Brett Snyder identifies the tune playing in the background and notes that the chorus ironically includes the line Oh, Lord, I’m still not sure what I stand for.

One reason that Southwest seems to be saying it no longer stands (just) for low fares is that, in recent studies, the airline has been shown to not always have the cheapest flights. The research firm Topaz International conducted a survey of 100 routes flown by Southwest, and here s what it discovered:

When comparing airfare only, competing airlines were lower than Southwest Airlines over 60% of the time, and higher than Southwest Airlines 35% of the time. This result is surprising given the perception in the marketplace, and with many travel managers, that Southwest Airlines is in fact the low-cost carrier in all markets they serve.

The study seems to confirm the data dug up by the Wall Street Journal ’s Scott McCartney in 2011, when the travel columnist reported that Southwest s flight prices had risen substantially — up 39% over the preceding five years, compared with 10% for the industry as a whole — and that it tended to charge more on routes where it was the dominant carrier.

It must be noted, however, that the Topaz results above are based on comparing airfare only, without incorporating the costs of checked bags. For years, Southwest has loudly celebrated its bags fly free policy in ads playing up the value it offered travelers compared with nearly all other airlines — which can charge $25 and up for each piece of checked luggage. When the costs of one checked bag were factored in, Topaz found that Southwest was the cheapest option 60% of the time.

Though the CrankyFlier s Snyder is obviously not a fan of Southwest s new commercial because it makes it seem like every other airline out there, he says Southwest is still different from the competition in a few key ways. The most obvious difference is that Southwest hasn t gone with the a-la-carte model of pricing and instead continues to bundle things like bag fees and change fees into the price of the ticket, Snyder said via e-mail. That s why you often see that Southwest isn t the cheapest anymore. Also, Southwest s customer-service model, loaded with employees that are empowered to solve problems, is generally superior to the ham-fisted bureaucracies in other airlines customer-service departments, according to Snyder.

So even as fares have risen, Southwest still sets itself apart with good customer service and the checked-bags value proposition. But for how long? Southwest has already been following the industry s lead by adding new fees for services like priority boarding. and more nickel-and-diming practices seem inevitable. Snyder worries that Southwest will struggle to maintain top-notch service, especially since it swallowed AirTran — which was also known as a low-fare carrier, but one with a very different customer-service environment.

At SmarterTravel.com. frequent-flyer expert Tim Winship reported that Southwest CFO Tammy Romo stated at a conference that the airline would be tightening restrictions on flights this year. She was also extremely noncommittal about whether Southwest would maintain its long-standing bags fly free policy:

I don t think our brand is Bags Fly Free, that s not who we are. As I mentioned, our brand is the affordable fares that you get with Southwest and the friendly, warm service that you get from our employees. So I don t think — an advertising campaign is not your brand. So at least, that s my belief. And we ll continue to look at our plan and adjust as we need to meet our financial objectives.

George Hobica, who runs AirfareWatchdog.com. says Southwest may very well be de-emphasizing bags fly free as a prelude to start charging for bags. No plans have been announced, however. Regardless, based on how big and powerful Southwest has become, and based on the image projected in its new ad campaign, no one should continue to view the airline as an offbeat little upstart company.

Bottom line, we now really have four major domestic carriers, says Hobica. Southwest is one of the big boys now and wants to be recognized as such.

Here s the ad if you d like to watch it:

Southwest fares drop below $100 round trip in 72-hour sale

Southwest rolled out a 72-hour, nationwide fare sale Tuesday (June 2) in which the price of its flights are roughly based to distance. Dozens of the carrier s shortest routes are available for fares of less than $100 round trip. USA TODAY

Southwest Airlines: Best Time to Buy Cheap Airline Tickets

But what about specific discount carriers like the popular Southwest Airlines. Here s what you need to know to get the cheapest airline tickets with Southwest Airlines.

    Always Compare Prices

Before you buy, check with an airfare comparison shopping site to be sure you re getting the best price. If you go to any individual airline site to shop, you may miss out on better deals.

    Southwest s Click-n-Save Specials

Southwest files its Click-n-Save specials every Monday night in the 8pm domestic airfare distribution (there are 3 domestic airfare distributions each weekday: 10am, 1pm and 8pm), and it hits their reservation system in the wee hours of the morning the next day.

    Tuesday Mornings

So Tuesday morning is one of the best times to shop, but there are some caveats these specials typically include limited routes that Southwest wants to try and fill up, seat-wise for particular travel days. In other words, it is not (usually) an across-the-board sale.

    Competitor Matching

Southwest normally matches competitors sales (which are usually filed Monday night at 8pm Eastern as well) and Southwest usually matches by the Tuesday 1pm domestic airfare distribution, which then hits their reservation system at approximately 3pm Eastern (these cheaper prices are typically pulled 3 days later on Thursday night).

Like all airlines, Southwest is very active in matching prices of their competitors who fly the same routes as they do on a daily basis (both nonstop and connecting flights). Just so you know, Southwest serves just under 70 cities, while the legacy airlines typically serve between 130-240 non-code share cities.

How to Stay on Top of Sales

If you have specific locations in mind, sign up for our realtime email airline ticket price drop alerts no airline wants to be undercut so following all airlines on a route for your next trip is the best way to know exactly when to shop and buy (let us do all the heavy lifting).

Don t Forget Facebook and Twitter

If you have an issue, grab your smart phone and post on their Facebook page or tweet your problem you re likely to get a faster response as Southwest has PR people manning those social media channels full-time.

    Bottom Line

So the best time to purchase tickets on Southwest varies, but a good rule of thumb is again shop Tuesday at 3pm Eastern. when the carrier has matched other airlines sale prices.

Southwest Companion Pass – The Best Deal in Travel for Family

Southwest Companion Pass – The Best Deal in Travel for Family Flights

    Why Southwest Ever?

Southwest Airlines does not offer upgrades (though their seats have a pitch comparable to some economy plus seats). That disqualifies them for much of our readership, but to those who are open there are some serious benefits available from the largest domestic carrier in the United States.

One advantage of flying Southwest is their network of point-to-point destinations from non-hub airports like Omaha, and Kansas City, Tampa and Albuquerque with cheap one-way flight pricing. They have also made hubs in convenient city locations like Dallas Love Field, and Chicago Midway and offer direct flights from non-hubs to almost every airport in the country from Orlando and Las Vegas.

Southwest’s biggest advantage is the Companion Pass . Here is how it works. After accruing 110,000 points in a calendar year the earner is rewarded with a companion pass whereby a named companion can fly with the earner for free until the end of the following calendar year. The airline does not distinguish points earned in the program as elite qualifying from regular redemption miles, meaning that you don’t even have to fly Southwest to earn the points.

That sounds more complex than it is.

I crossed 110,000 points in February of 2015. I named my wife as my companion. Any time that I fly through the rest of 2015 and all of 2016 she can be added on to my tickets for just the cost of taxes (usually $5.60/each way) even if I am flying on point redemption tickets.

But How Did I Earn the 110,000 Points by February?

I signed up for two credit cards from Chase, a bank I love. To be absolutely clear, I do not earn referral commissions for any credit cards. I am discussing the card because I love the Companion Pass, not because I am paid to do so. If you want to apply go directly to Chase.

The personal Southwest card awarded 50,000 points after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days, plus the 2,000 points for spending the $2,000 as it earns 1 Rapids Rewards point per $1 spent on the card. I did the same with the business card, giving me 104,000 points. I then made some normal purchases through the Southwest online shopping portal and earned the remaining 6,000 points to get me over the 110,000 mark.

Southwest does not distinguish points from credit card spend, flying or shopping. The only points that they do distinguish are purchased points (those don’t count), transfers from Ultimate Rewards points like the Chase Sapphire Preferred card or Chase Ink or transfers in from hotel partners – those would not count according to reader Patrick, some hotel transfers do count, he identifies Choice hotels at a transfer rate of 3.3 Choice Privilege points to 1 Southwest Rapid Rewards point though I have not confirmed myself, we will take Patrick’s word on this. Everything else does.

    How Have We Used It?

We are trying to get the most possible value out of the pass without losing our minds. Every time we have a flight we need to take that we do not fly American (where we have status) is one where we will fly in coach instead of first class. There are times where I will gladly forgo an upgrade to first class and fly coach. For example, my parents have a condo in Florida and our home airport has direct flights there. In two hours we can be dropping our bags at their place and another ten minutes and we are in the pool. On top of that Southwest has two daily flights to that airport, one early in the day allowing us the maximum time if I need to take the day off from work to enjoy the beach instead of spending all day making connections and flying. The second option is a direct flight at 7PM in the evening which allows me to work the whole day and then go to the airport keeping some of those valuable days off saved for later.

Open bin space is another advantage to flying Southwest.

Direct flights have been a key advantage of flying Southwest, but I also wanted to get some real value out of it and that involved a connection. I surprised my wife with a trip to Aruba for her 30th birthday, but flights to international destinations are very much hub and spoke and less point to point, just like the big network carriers. On this particular flight we flew through BWI before landing in Aruba 4.5 hours later.

The last thing you want to do when you get off a Southwest plane is get on another one. So for us, we will limit future trips to just direct flights of less than three hours or when the others are astronomically higher which rarely happens.

    Fart Can and Open Seating

I have yet to step on a Southwest plane that does not reek of flatulence. You can blame the airline, the cleaning crew or the clientele, but either way it is always gross. And I feel gross when I fly them.

But once you get adjusted to the smell, the big advantage for us, is flights are rarely sold out 100%. While there may only be 5-10 open seats per flight (an excellent sign for the airline) we board with baby at the end of A boarding. That means that my wife, myself and the baby get on after the first 60 people, but on a jet with seating for 140 or so, the infant tends to be something to avoid so we typically have a row to ourselves due to sociological reasons and suspicions of our baby s behavior on a plane. That s something that we don t get when flying with the other airlines where people cannot choose to avoid seats next to babies.

How Much Value Is In The Companion Pass?

While our daughter is under two years old until January of 2016, the three of us are flying for just the cost of my ticket and my wife s taxes. For Aruba that meant using points instead of paying about $500 out of pocket for me, and then my wife flew for $76 (taxes) and the baby for just $16 (I think there may have been an error there but I am not complaining). Assuming that we would have gone on the trip anyway and not just because it was free, we would have paid about $1125 to fly the same trip on American, though we would have earned status and miles and flown in first class due to status and instruments.

Instead however, we were just $76 each out of pocket plus my daughter s $16 (total of $178) and about 24,000 points. That s well worth putting a $1000 back in my pocket and makes an easy case for the program.

Assuming that we did this kind of trip for all of the miles from just the sign up activity alone, the card would return more than $4500 to us, and that is an outsized value for two credit card sign ups.

Any time there is an outsized value (and there have been dozens of examples in the past) expect a correction . I assume that Southwest will begin to distinguish their bonus points (though not regular spend points) from companion pass eligible points and essentially end a large number of the passes out there. I have no direct information to confirm this, but any time there is a value too large and too good to be true, it will be made untrue. If I were you, I would get on this now, If you apply for cards in November/December but don’t hit the full bonus points posting until January you will have two full years to enjoy it. It should also lock you in because it’s essentially making a contract with customers and while all airlines can change these policies any time they want, it would be bad PR for them to cancel the program with short notice (Mike, I am looking at you ).

Southwest Hawaii Airline Update | 2016

Southwest Hawaii flight plans almost remain to this day a secret. Here s our update as of late 2015.

Classified information was let out of the bag last year and it still appears certain that SWA will have flights to Hawaii. That s great news for future Hawaii vacation deals. With their flight crew and fleet of 737-800 planes ETOPS certified for over water service, and other factors we uncovered below, this Maxwell Smart thinks it s a sure thing.

    Beat of Hawaii predictions:

    • Expect see Southwest Hawaii service announced in 2016 with service to commence thereafter. That via direct service or possible airline acquisition.
    • Southwest will be limited to flying to Hawaii from the west coast. Even going slightly inland isn t feasible with their aircraft.
    • Oakland will be the primary mainland departure city. The next most likely Hawaii gateway is Los Angeles.
    • We do not anticipate Southwest offering inter-island service, at least initially.
    • Much more is possible starting in 2017 with Southwest s new aircraft.

In July 2014, Southwest CEO Gary Kelly announced plans for the airline s continued expansion. In regards to Hawaii, while more legwork is needed to commence Hawaii flights, he said it wouldn t take years to start flights to the islands.

We have work to do before we can fly to Hawaii, which I doubt we’ll be able to keep a secret.” Gary Kelly

Southwest Hawaii service has still not been announced. Here s why:

    • In the past two years Southwest growth stopped. The company put a halt on expansion which is now resuming. Their number of flights actually decreased slightly while the number of seat miles was flat. Southwest s acquisition of AirTran was more complicated than originally thought and the 737 s they acquired had to be taken out of service to be revamped.
    • Allegiant Hawaii service began, and while not a major player, they brought with them some initial uncertainty as to broader Hawaii flight pricing. Southwest waited to see whether the discount carrier s entry would have any impact on the other airlines Hawaii ticket prices. Thereafter, Allegiant did not have great success with the islands which may have caused further concern for any Hawaii prospects including Southwest and Virgin America .
    • Competition between west coast cities and Hawaii is strong on Hawaiian  and Alaska. which doesn t offer much opportunity for the higher airfares that typically attract a new player like Southwest. This issue is exacerbated to some degree by low fuel prices.
    • Some internal systems, such as Southwest s reservation system, may require updating to accommodate Hawaii flights.
    • The current aircraft are configured for more seats than competitor Alaska Airlines. This may present weight issues for Hawaii flights. That problem will be alleviated when Southwest begins to take delivery of their longer range and capacity 737 MAX fleet starting in 2017.

    What we know:

    • SWA has a fleet of 737–800 planes ETOPS certified for over water service.
    • Southwest flight crews received over water training needed in part to fly to Hawaii.
    • 2015 plans remain significant. Southwest will take delivery of 33 Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year. That will provide added capacity needed for possible Hawaii flights.
    • Allegiant  did a belly flop in Hawaii. While operating with a completely different business model than Southwest, this gave indication that price alone would not dictate in the Hawaii aviation market.

Southwest Airlines Now Totally Cool With Customers Kicking Muslims Off Flights

Southwest Airlines Now Totally Cool With Customers Kicking Muslims Off Flights

In two separate incidents this week, Southwest Airlines has kicked Arabic-speaking passengers off their flights following customer complaints. The airline doesn’t seem to understand this is something corporations should not do in 2015.

    Shop

In one case, business owners Maher Khalil and Anas Ayyad were asked to step aside because fellow passengers were, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia, “afraid to fly with them.” Eventually, the boarding agent told the two men they could not get on the flight because other passengers overheard them speaking Arabic.

“If that person doesn’t feel safe, let them take the bus,” Khalil said to a Southwest Airlines gate agent, according to NBC 10. “We’re American citizens just like everybody else.”

As Gawker’s Melissa Cronin notes , this effectively deputizes bigots to eject whomever they want, a trend Southwest should put a stop to unless it wants to become the official airline for the country’s bigots.

What makes matters worse is how the $6.7 billion company responded, with the following, tone-deaf statement:

Safety is our primary focus, and our Employees are trained to make decisions to ensure that safety, and to safeguard the security of our Crews and Customers on every flight.

What exactly was the safety risk here? Paranoid bigots demanding other passengers be removed from a flight is not the same thing as increasing safety.

Will Southwest Airlines address these incidents responsibly, or will it continue to let racist morons determine safety policy for everyone else?

UPDATE: Southwest airlines has returned Gawker’s request for comment. These responses are published below:

Southwest Airlines sent Gawker the following statement. It did not address the second flight, nor answer a question regarding whether incidents like this will happen in the future.

We had a slight delay boarding, lasting only a few minutes, while we completed a brief passenger conversation. All customers were boarded and traveled on to their scheduled destination, Philadelphia. Southwest Employees welcome hundreds of millions of Customers onboard annually. We are responsible for the comfort of all passengers and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.

    Update 4:41 p.m.

Southwest has issued a second statement, addressing the flight that the six Muslim passengers were not allowed to board.

On Wednesday, Southwest Flight #126 from Chicago (Midway) to Houston (Hobby) was delayed departing the gate after several passengers refused to follow Crew instructions. Reports indicate that the situation involved seating arrangements and repeated attempts from those passengers involved to save seats and rearrange other passengers onboard the aircraft. Our crews were unable to resolve the situation without delaying the flight so we rebooked the customers on a later flight that same day.

    Southwest Airlines Overview:

Southwest Airlines has earned a sterling reputation as a very customer friendly airline with service to destinations all around the world. While flights at Southwest may cost a little more than some other airlines, the airline is the only company that doesn t charge fees to check bags. That more than makes up for the slightly higher flight costs.

Southwest Airlines is based in Dallas, TX and was started in 1971 with service between the cities of Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. It has grown into a large company, with a fleet of large aircraft, that travels to over 100 U.S. destinations all over the county and Puerto Rico. The Southwest fleet currently consists of 698 Boeing Jets that make nearly 3,500 trips daily. Atlanta is a major hub for Southwest and connects the Airline to destinations all over the East coast like Miami, Washington D.C, Baltimore, New York, Pittsburgh and Boston. Other popular Southwest destinations include San Diego, Houston, Denver, Detroit, Seattle, Chicago and Minneapolis.

One of the things that makes Southwest so popular is the amount of flights they offer customers of every budget constraint. Southwest regularly runs specials to their major destinations with great deals on the flights. Flights to many Southern cities can cost customers as low as $89 with Southwest s fun fares as long as the fights are booked at least 14 days in advance.

Another feature customers enjoy is the ability to check-in 24 hours prior to their flight. Customers with an internet connection can check-in for their flight 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time and print out their boarding passes at home. This cuts down on the amount of time spend at the airport. Those customers that print their boarding passes at home are also able to use Southwest s easy curbside bag check-in process. The entire process usually takes around ten minutes, which beats waiting in the check-in line with other airlines.

An advantage to being able to check-in for a flight online is being able to get a lower boarding number. Southwest doesn t use assigned seat but instead assigns groups of customers a boarding class. That customers enter the plane when their boarding class is called and find available seats. Therefore, if a customer checks in early enough, they will be able to select the seat of their choice.

In place of first class, Southwest offers business class seating to its customers. This class of customers pays a little more and is seated in the front of the plane in seats that provide more room that the coach seats. After business class is boarded, the boarding classes go in alphabetical order from A to D.

The in-flight experience is what Southwest is known for with exceptional customer service. The attendants are very nice and serve assorted beverages and snacks during the flight. Also, pending on the length of the flight, entertainment features are offered. A new popular addition to many flights is the ability to have WiFi internet access during the flight. For a small fee, customers can stay connected to the world while flying 3,000 feet above.

All of these features have made Southwest the most popular airline choice in the country. The company continues to grow, taking in over $178 million dollars in net income last year. The company looks to continue to grow in the future, adding new planes and destinations each year.
