Tibet Travel Permits: Tibet Visa and Entry Permit 2017, tibet travel.#Tibet

Tibet Travel Permits – Tibet Visa 2017

There are two kinds of permits issued for traveling in Tibet: the Tibet entry permit (TTB permit, equivalent of a visa for Tibet) and the Alien travel permit (PSB permit). Some people also call the Tibet travel permit as the Tibet visa, or Lhasa visa. Access Tibet Tour provides both types of permit for the clients who book tours from us.

TTB Permit – Tibet Entry Permit – The “Tibet Visa” or “Lhasa Visa”

When you fly into Lhasa you will need to show this permit when checking in at the airport. Also, in order to buy a flight to Lhasa in the first place you will need to show this permit. TTB permits are also needed by groups traveling by Land Cruiser, but this will be arranged by the travel agency organizing the trip. Following is a picture of a TTB permit (click on the picture to enlarge):

PSB Permit – Alien Travel Permit

If you want to “restricted” areas in Tibet, you will need an Alien travel permit issued by the PSB (Public Security Bureau) of Tibet. The Alien travel permit is also sometimes referred to as the PSB permit. Following is a picture of the Alien travel/PSB permit :

How to get the travel permits?

Because we are a LOCAL travel agency, we can easily obtain travel permits on your behalf. Simply send us the following information:

1) Your full name;

3) Your date of birth;

4) Your passport number;

5) Your nationality

All information must be exactly the same as in your passport. In addition, we will need to know your occupation, as journalists and government officials/political personnel may require more complicated procedures in order to be issued a permit.Please be advised that you need to apply for the travel permit at least 10 days prior to your entry date.Also note that if you do not book a tour with ATT, we can not help you get a permit. No travel agency can provide “permit-only” service. Here is a note from Lonely Planet:

“Lhasa PSB will not issue travel permits to individuals and will direct you to a travel agency. Agencies can arrange a travel permit to almost anywhere but only if you book a Land Cruiser, driver and a guide.”

Important Issues regarding Tibet travel permits

1. Tibet travel permits may be acquired through a travel agency, except by the following groups of people: diplomats, journalists, and government officials; People falling within these categories need to contact the Foreign Affairs Office of the Tibetan Government in order to arrange a permit.

2. After you have got a Tibet travel permit, a travel agency can buy you the air tickets, and only with the permit in hand can you pass the airport check-in counter.

3. Once in Tibet, your tour guide is required to retain your permit. You may not carry it on your person, or travel within Tibet with it in your possession. The Alien Travel Permit is required for travel outside of Lhasa. If you attempt to travel outside of Lhasa with only a Tibet entry permit and are stopped by the police, you will be sent out of Tibet, and could face legal difficulties. Furthermore, the travel agency which helped you acquire the permit could also face sanctions.

Do not trust a travel agency that offers to sell you a Tibet travel permit without requiring you to book a tour. No legitimate travel agency will offer “permit-only” service. Avoid wasting your money, as this is almost certainly a scam.

4. There is a service charge (imposed by the government) that must be paid in order to get a Tibet travel permit. ATT will also charge a minimal fee for the time, paper work, and to reimburse the transportation and delivery fees involved in acquiring a Tibet travel permit.

Question: How much does a Tibet permit cost?

Answer: First of all, please note that we never SELL a permit. We only help you obtain a permit from the local authorities. As mentioned above, the cost of a permit includes the government charges and the ATT service fee. This cost will be included in your tour package quotation.

Question: How long does it take to get a Tibet travel permit?

Answer: Generally it takes three days to get the Tibet permit if you supply all of the necessary documents, and another 3 days (or more) to Express Deliver the permit.

Tip: When applying for a Chinese visa, it is generally better not to mention Tibet. After you get your Chinese visa, a Tibet travel permit is easily obtained. Otherwise you will have to wait for your Tibet permit before getting your Chinese visa. Of course, there is always the slight risk that you might be refused entry to Tibet even if you get a Chinese visa first. In our experience, the TTB seldom refuses entry to tourists unless they belong to one of the categories of people mentioned above (diplomats, journalists, government officials).

Tibet is under Chinese jurisdiction, so you are required to hold a valid Chinese visa (issued by a Chinese Embassy), as well as a valid passport.If you are coming to Lhasa from Kathmandu, it is advised to get a Chinese visa from Kathmandu (regardless of whether you already have a Chinese visa issued in your country) as a special administrative situation exists between China and Nepal.

    Q: Why do foreigners need to get Tibet Travel Permit (TTP)?

    A: The Chinese Government requires that non-Chinese citizens (foreign tourists, Taiwan and overseas Chinese tourists except Hong Kong and Macao residents with Chinese SAR passports or Home Visit Permit), must get TTP issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) before entering Tibet due to :

    1. Tibet’s unique national traditions

    2. Requirement for ecological environment protection

    3. Limited traffic situation and reception capacity

    4. Tourism service facilities

    It is also stipulated that foreign journalists and diplomats may not enter Tibet as tourists. Application for TTP usually takes 3 working days.

    Non-Chinese citizen compatriots are required to join a guided trip, organized in advance by an authorized travel agency. They may not travel independently.

    Q: What’s the difference between “Tibet Travel Permit” and “Tibet Group VISA”

    A: Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) is the permission for foreign tourists to enter Tibet, issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau.

    Tibet Group VISA is a special Chinese VISA only valid in Tibet. It is issued by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Tourists who want to enter Tibet from Kathmandu (Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal) must apply for a Tibet Group Visa in Kathmandu even if already holding a Chinese VISA.

    Q: If I want to enter Tibet from China mainland, what should I be aware of when applying for the Chinese VISA?

    A: We recommend obtaining the visa before leaving the home country. When applying for the Chinese VISA, we advise NOT to mention Tibet in any way on the application form. It is advisable to refer to other places in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, etc. Chinese VISA officer may reject the application otherwise.

    Q: Do I need a double/multi-entry VISA if I go to Tibet from China mainland and return to China mainland after the trip?

    A: No. Tibet is part of China, Single-entry visa would be enough.

    Q: If we want to enter Tibet from Nepal, how to apply for Tibet Group VISA? Is it possible to obtain it before arriving in Kathmandu?

    A: It is only possible to apply for the Tibet Group VISA after arriving in Kathmandu. We would need the original passport to apply for the VISA on your behalf. A special VISA is required when entering from Nepal. The extra cost is currently USD 114 and USD 198 for American passport holders. It can only be issued by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. Our agency can apply for it on your behalf once you are in Kathmandu. The Chinese Embassy in Katmandu is only open in the mornings Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please note, in this case, you don’t need to apply for the Chinese VISA from your own country in advance.

    Step 1: Book the tour with us (contact us ) and send us the scanned copy of your passport

    Step 2: We will apply for the ‘Visa Invitation Letter’ from Tibet Tourism Bureau and send it to our Nepal office before you arrival in Kathmandu

    Step 3: After your arrival in Katmandu, our Nepal colleagues will collect your original passport directly from your hotel and apply for the Chinese VISA. It usually takes us one day to complete the process.

    Q: Is the original permit required to travel?

    Entering by train: the original permit is not required. We will email you a scanned copy of the permit for you to print. Please bring the copy with you, it will be enough to board the train.

    Entering by plane: if you are traveling from a city in mainland China, we will send the original permit by express courier to your designated address (private residence, company address or hotel). If you are only stopping in mainland China for a flight connection, a member of our staff will hand you the permit in the airport.

    For travel details

    Q: Why some of your programs choose Nepal as the door for entering Tibet?

    Q: What currency is it in use in Tibet?

    A: The legal currency is the Chinese RMB (CNY). Foreign currencies may not be used directly in Tibet although they can be obviously converted into RMB at all banks in Tibet.

    Q: How is the quality of accommodation in Tibet?

    A: Tourism in Tibet is in its infancy and the number of 4-star hotels is quite limited. Newest hotels have been built away from city centers in order to protect historical city architectures and the environment.

    Quality standards of services and facilities may not be comparable to international hotel ratings. Our agency normally reserves 3-star hotels, but we can also reserve hotels of higher or lower ratings according to your request.

    Q: Is there internet access in Tibet?

    A: Yes. Internet cafes and some hotels provide access to the internet.

    Q: Is there anything I should bring according to Tibet’s special environment?

    Bags: a large backpack and a smaller one. The smaller one can be used for daily activities and can also be put into the big one when necessary.

    It is advisable to bring a waist pack to put personal properties and documents.

    Cold-proof clothes: Air temperature can swing dramatically on the altiplano. In northern Tibet, peak temperatures rarely exceed 4-5 degrees Celsius and snowfalls are not unusual even in summer months. As a reference, local people wear thick coats all year round.

    In Lhasa, temperatures in July swing from 30 degrees at daytime to 10 degrees at night. It might snow or sleet at night, making it advisable to take some down garments (those with hats would be best), woolen sweaters, warm gloves, warm and wind-proof shoes and socks. Wearing several layers of clothing that can be easily added or removed is usually the wisest choice since temperatures may vary greatly within a single day. A down coat is necessary for those who are traveling beyond Lhasa and Shigatse into more remote areas such as the Everest Camp. A windbreaker plus a sweater will work nicely for strolling around Lhasa in summer. During the peak touristic season, frequent rainfall makes waterproof clothing and rain gears an absolute necessity. Other essentials to pack include several pairs of cotton or woolen underwear, woolen socks, long sleeve cotton or lightweight wool shirts and T-shirts. Women should avoid skirts or dresses.

    Shoes: It is very important to have a strong and comfortable pair of boots. Lightweight boots could do, but Tibet can indeed become wet quickly and our trips involve extensive walking. It is therefore strongly advisable to double check shoes fit well and are suitable for cold and wet weather. It will be handy to carry a pair of comfortable and robust sandals.

    Protection against sunburn light: As solar light during sunshine is particularly intense, sunglasses, sunhat and suntan lotions are required.

    Ladies and people with sensitive skins are particularly advised to bring high SPF sun-creams.

    Medicine: it is advisable to bring an adequate supply of any prescription medication you may use regularly, including inhalers for asthma. Most over-the-counter medicines, such as aspirin and anti-diarrheal pills, are available in Lhasa, but are more difficult to obtain outside of urban areas. If you wear contact lenses, be sure to bring enough cleaning solution for the term of your stay, since this is hard to find, and noticeably expensive, in Tibet.

    Diamox pills are believed to prevent altitude sickness.

    Please always consult your doctor prior to traveling to Tibet.

    Trekking equipments: Some trekking supplies (down and fleece jackets, boots, bags, etc.) are available in Lhasa, but it is always best to source them before departing as supplies are unpredictable.

    Electrical current: The electrical current in Tibet is 220v, AC 50 Hz. There are numerous different plug types used in Tibet. so it might be easier to purchase an adapter upon arrival.

    Q: Can I have a Tibetan guide who speaks my language?

    A: Most guides of our agency are natural Tibetan; they are all holding qualified guide license and foreign language certificate.

A visa can be obtained from the local Chinese consulate in your country. However, the foreign journalists and diplomats are not allowed to go to the region as a visitor.

    Tibet Travel Information

    China Visa

    If you are entering Tibet from Kathmandu, you should get your Chinese visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu (regardless of whether you already have a Chinese visa issued in your country). Please note that if you have already got a Chinese visa at your home country, it will be cancelled and fresh visa will be issued in Kathmandu. So do not apply for a Chinese visa until you reach to Kathmandu and avoid waste of money (in the case you enter Tibet from Nepal).

    However if you are entering Tibet form mainland China or Honking, get your Chinese visa in advance. You are required to hold a valid Chinese visa (issued by a Chinese Embassy and stamped in your individual passport), as well as a valid passport to enter Tibet (at least six months valid). When applying for a Chinese visa at your home country, it is better not mentioning that you intend to visit Tibet.

    In order to get Chinese visa in Kathmandu, please send us your clear passport copy and other details like your profession to us at least 15 days in advance. We will get Tibet Travel Permit (TTB permit or commonly called Invitation letter to travel to Tibet from the Tibet Travel Bureau – TTB). Once you arrive to Kathmandu, we apply for your Chinese visa along with your original passport and TTB permit. You will get a group visa (it will be not stamped in your individual passport but will be in a sheet of paper).

    Very important: The visa days in the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu is Monday, Wednesday and Friday ( and visa can be collected the same day upon payment of urgent fees – USD 114 for European passports and USD 198 for US passports ). In order not to waste your time in Kathmandu, make it such that you arrive to Kathmandu either Sunday or Tuesday or Thursday so that you can get visa the next day and fly to Tibet the day after. (Except in main season, the flights to Lhasa from Kathmandu are generally operated on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and almost always get packed)

    Tibet Travel Permits

    There are two different permits required to travel to Tibet

    1. The entry permit (TTB permit, equivalent of a visa for Tibet, required to enter Tibet region of China. A Chinese visa and Tibet entry permit are both required to enter Tibet ). You need to show this to the authorities in airport or surface entry points .
  • The Alien travel permit (PSB permit) which is required to travel restricted areas in Tibet. In practice you need PSB permit to travel any regions outside Lhasa. Different PSB permits are required to travel to different parts of Tibet. PSB permits are issued by local police authorities called Public Security Bureau ( PSB ).

    How to get the travel permits?

    You send us the following details exactly as in your passport at least 15 days before the trip date .

    1) Your full name;

    2) Your gender;

    3) Your date of birth;

    4) Your passport number;

    5) Your nationality

    6) Your profession

    Or simply send us a clear scan copy of your passport.

    Please note that mentioning your true profession is important as journalists. government officials, political personnel and diplomats may require more complicated procedures in order to be issued a permit. We do not process for them nor we would be liable if travel permits are not issued at the last moment because you belong to this category of profession but do not inform us in time. Please note that neither we nor any travel agency will / can sell permit-only service. One must buy the tour package to obtain it .

    Important points to be noted:

    1. Tibet travel permits may be acquired through a travel agency, except by the following groups of people: diplomats, journalists, and government officials; who should contact the Foreign Affairs Office of the Tibetan Government in order to arrange a permit.
  • Tibet travel permit is required to buy the air tickets, at the airport check-in counter while checking in for the flights and at the Lhasa airport or surface entry point.
  • Once in Tibet, your tour guide is supposed to retain your permit. You may not carry it on your person, or travel within Tibet with it in your possession. The Alien Travel Permit is required for travel outside of Lhasa.

    All our itineraries are based on entry from Kathmandu. Even now. Kathmandu is the easiest place to organize Tibet visa / travel permits and flight tickets to Lhasa.

    Air China flies Kathmandu to Lhasa three times a week ( more flights operated during main tourist season ).

    One way fare Kathmandu – Lhasa is USD 379 at present ( flight costs are subject to change without prior notice. please check with us before booking ) .

    Other places to enter Tibet by flight is from Chhengdu or Beijing and from Hongkong. Lhasa is now linked with train from the main land China.We also offer our tours for those entering Tibet from other places than kathmandu.

    Tour Guides

    Throughout your time in Tibet you will be accompanied by a English speaking Tibetan guide who will not only act as an interpreter but will also provide a valuable insight into the Tibetan way of life.

    Hotels and accommodation

    There are good hotels now in Lhasa. There are three star level hotels in Shigatse and Gyantse to. The hotel facilities along Nepal Tibet highway. specially on Zangmu and Tingri / Shegar is only basic.

    The facilities and services on the highways are still not of the standard found elsewhere. So do not expect much in term of hotels.

    Tibet Travel Guide

    Chinese Name: 西藏 (xī z ng)

    Abbreviation: Zang

    Admin. Type: Autonomous Region

    Namtso

  • Tashilhunpo
    Monastery
  • Baksum Tso

    Tibet Introduction

    Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR for short) attracts people of all persuasions every year from both home and abroad. It rewards every visitor with an unforgettable experience of the land, the people and the mysticism!

    It is the gateway of southwest China. Its land mass is about 1/8 of the territories of the country. The history of Tibet began about 4,000 years ago, when living was simpler. Lhasa is the political, economic, cultural and religious center with abundant cultural relics, like the world s highest palace complex, the Potala Palace built over 1,300 years ago.

    Geography and Natural Scenery

    This place is called Roof of the World and the Third Pole of the Earth . Five mountains exceed the altitudes of 8,000 meters (26,240 feet) and most rise to 7,000 meters (22,960 feet), making them a natural challenge for mountaineers. The world s highest peak, Mt. Everest is situated in this region. The vast land is also the river source for the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Yarlong Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), the Indus, and the Ganges. Its lakes: the Heavenly Lake Namtso, the Yamdrok Yumtso Lake and the Lake Manasarova set the region apart as an exceptional scenic place.

    Religion

    The area is synonymous with devout religious practices, especially in Tibetan Buddhism and Bon. In the 16th century, every family produced a member in the holy orders: a quarter of its population. It has been built into the culture with 1,700 Buddhism monasteries in the country. The Bon comes second with 88 Bon religious places of worship. Religious festivals are celebrated like national holidays. You come across religious artifacts year round there.

    People Life

    The people living in this vast land are mainly Tibetan, an ethnic group with bold and uninhibited characteristics. They take beef, mutton and dairy products as staple food, which protect them from severe cold. The locals grow crops under harsh climatic conditions. The main grain crop grown here is the barley. The popular zanba and barley wine are made from it. Traditional local clothing are usually thick, warm and loose with wide waist and long sleeves and skirts. Hada, a ceremonial scarf, is highly regarded. People here usually present Hada as a mark of esteem when holding celebration parties, welcoming visitors, visiting the elders or seeing someone off. This land is reputed as the Sea of Dances and Songs , where people enjoy these pursuits. People here also engages in wrestling, horse racing and archery on Tibetan festivals. You have an opportunity to do home visits and learn more.

    Tips

    You can reach the land by air, by road or by train through the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. At high altitudes the air is thin and one is exposed to strong ultraviolet radiation as well as huge temperature variation between day and night. Thus, visitors should make good preparations before and during the travel. Visitors are also advised that summer is the preferable season for a visit. As a guest coming from abroad you need to visit in groups with a Tibet Travel Permit. Tibet, also known as The Roof of the World or The Land of Snows, is a magical place. Rich in a uniques cultural, the local Tibetan people are kind, outgoing and very helpful. The predominant religion is Buddhism and plays a very big part in the daily life of the Tibetan people. Tibet does have a large Chinese influence and is increasing steadily with an influx of Chinese settlers since Tibet came under the control of the Chinese government in 1959.

    Tibet suffered dearly during the Cultural Revolution with the destruction of many monasteries. Nearly of the monasteries have been rebuilt and reminants of the older monasteries can still be scene. Entering a monastery is like being transported back in time. The capitol, Lhasa Travel Guide. has some of the most important Monasteries in Tibet such as Jokhang and Potala.

    Tibet has some unique customs Tibet Local Customs and wonderful restaurants. Be sure to try the Yak meat.

    The political climate in Tibet is the determining factor whether the borders will be open to foriegn tourist. This can change year to year. Fortunately for 2013, the borders are open to foriegners with booked travel itineraries through a Chinese or Tibetan guide service. Independent travel is still not permited. How to Visit Tibet

    Special Permission

    You’ll need to apply for a standard travel visa to pass through China on your way to the Tibet Autonomous Region. You’ll also need a special permit to enter Tibet. Tour agencies can usually help you apply for the three-month permit, but it’s not a guarantee that the Chinese government will approve it. The U.S. State Department warns that even if you get a permit, much of the region is off-limits to foreigners. After arriving in Tibet, you’ll need to apply for a Border Travel Permit at the Public Security Bureau in Lhasa if you want to travel around the region, including to the Nepal border crossing along the Friendship Highway. Restricted areas may expand and any access to Tibet could be blocked to foreign tourists at a moment’s notice, such as if the Chinese government wants to keep foreigners away from places that have seen recent protests against Beijing rule.

    Tour Companies

    Many tour companies catering to Tibet travelers are in Lhasa, China or across the Nepal border in Kathmandu. Choices include packages ranging from group to private trips, as well as excursions into the mountains for the adventure-minded and a scenic train ride from Qinghai. You can also fly into Lhasa from Kathmandu or Chengdu. Some travel companies are dedicated to providing ethical travel, which bypasses the tourism-generating facade managed by China to focus on authentic Tibetan culture and stimulating local economies. The Tibet Ecotravel Collective, for example, can set you up with local guides to explore mountain paths, tucked-away monasteries and families eager to welcome you for the night. However you get to Tibet, remember that the high altitude can make the hardiest of travelers sick. Check with your doctor before travel if you have pre-existing conditions and take it easy the first few days after you touch down in Tibet.

    Staying in Tibet

    Most rural parts of Tibet have limited facilities for tourists, but the large cities are equipped with better facilities as China has attempted to bolster the tourism sector in recent years. Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, reported that tourism revenue in Tibet jumped 23 percent from 2013 to 2014. Luxury establishments include the St. Regis Lhasa Resort, with a shimmering golden swimming pool, spa and butler service. Cheaper places to stay include bare-bones hostels popular among backpackers and midrate economy hotels. Kathmandu has a number of charming hotels if you want to use Nepal as your base camp and pop into Tibet for a visit. Check with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the latest vaccination recommendations several weeks in advance of your journey; typhoid and hepatitis A shots are recommended because of compromised food and water safety, and you should cut the risk by drinking sealed bottled water.

    What Not to Do

    While you can easily be nabbed by Chinese authorities for straying into restricted areas of Tibet deemed to be military-sensitive, you can also get busted for other things that set off the officials. Bringing photos of the Dalai Lama or other material considered separatist by authorities, such as the Tibetan flag, is banned. Free Tibet campaign activists warn that your actions could also affect the people you meet. If you talk politics with a Tibetan, your conversation partner could be punished. If you ask for a ride, the driver who picks you up could face pricey fines. If you take a photo of Chinese security forces, your tour guide may face repercussions. Keep to your approved travel itinerary, or the Tibetans you meet along your on-a-whim path could be in trouble as well as you.

Tibet Travel Permit

    Last updated: November,18 2015

    Contrary to popular belief, a tangible Tibet Travel Permit aka Tibet Tourism Bureau (T.T.B.) permit does exist and there are no plans of eliminating this permit in the near future. A permit is required to enter Tibet. The TTB costs vary depending on your departure city, and there is no expiration date for the permit. You do not need a permit to leave Tibet, however you will need an additional transit permit to enter certain cities within Tibet as well as Mt. Everest Base camp (60 Yuan per person, 405 Yuan per vehicle), which can be easily arranged by your tour operator. You do need a China Visa as well as a passport that is valid for at least 6 months before applying for the TTB.

    Chinatibettrain is cooperating with Tibet Travel Org CITS. the top local tour operator, to help travelers obtain Tibet travel permit. The agency also offers EXTRA VALUE tour packages. This is how the Tibet Travel Permit looks like. It consists of 2 pages.

    This is how the Tibet Travel Permit (TTB Permit) looks like. It consists of 2 pages.

    Everyone can get a Tibet permit through a travel agency except diplomats, journalists, and government officials who should travel to Tibet under the arrangement by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Government. Tibet Travel Org is specializing in organizing Tibet tours for foreigners, Tibet train tour in particular, and can help you to obtain Tibet entry permit and other travel permits.

    What you need before you go:

    1. Scanned copy of your Passport with your photo, date of issue, passport number. Make sure your passport is valid for at least the next 6 months;
    2. Scanned copy of your China Tourist Visa;
    3. A tentative itinerary, that is, places where you will be visiting and staying.

    How to get the Tibet permit

    Tibet Travel Permits are arranged by tibet tour agencies only. It normally takes 1-10 business days, depending on how you plan on entering Tibet. 1 Day for flying into Tibet and up to 10 days if you plan on entering Tibet by land via a Land cruiser or by train. You just need to show your passport (or fax in a copy of your passport main page) to begin the permit issuing process. You can apply for the permit as an individual or as a group.

    There are two ways leading to Tibet, one is from other parts of China, the other is form Nepal.

    1. Apply Tibet Visa in China

    If you are planning to enter Tibet from other places of China, you can apply for Tivet Visa from Chinese local offices of your planned previous city to Tibet, e.g. Chengdu if by air, Golmud if by Qinghai-Tibet Highway. It is a must document when you are boarding a flight to Tibet.

    2. Apply Tibet Visa in Nepal

    Tibet Travel Document Checklist

    1. The Chinese Visa. You can apply for this at a Chinese Embassy in your country.

    2. The Tibet Tourism Bureau Permit (TTB). You cannot enter Tibet without this permit.

    3. The Alien Travel Permit (PSB). This permit is required to enter restricted areas in Tibet (see below for more details).

    The Alien Travel Permit is very easy to be applied as long as you ve got a Tibet Travel Permit from your travel agency.

    If you want to go further to the “unopened” areas outside of Lhasa, you need an Alien’s travel permit issued by PSB of Tibet. It is called “Alien’s Travel Permit” or “PSB permit”. This can be arranged by any tour agency in Tibet, but no travel agency can provide Alien s Travel Permit-only service. Your tour operator, who arranges a Tibet tour for you, will help you apply for this permit according to your itinerary.

    Please note that, the Alien’s Travel Permit can be only applied after you arrive in Tibet. because your original passport, Chinese visa and Tibet Permit are needed. But don t worry, it normally just takes several hours and costs CNY50 per person to get one.

    Military Permit is required if you are planning to travel to Ngari, Nyingchi, and Nagqu which are regard as the military sensitive areas in Tibet. It is issued by the Military office in Lhasa and we will need you to provide your passport, Tibet permit to apply for it. It normally takes 1-2 week days and the cost is CNY100 /person.
