A true story about buying cheap tickets for events reveals a scam most people don t know about: Internet ScamBusters #195

Today s issue is called Cheap Tickets: How Not to Get Scammed. We share an interesting experience from a friend who witnessed a common cheap tickets scam.

In addition, we want to alert you to a new trend: private debt collectors are starting to collect delinquent taxes from US taxpayers. We ll briefly discuss why many experts are concerned.

However, before we begin today s article on cheap tickets, we first encourage you to take a look at this week s most popular articles from our other sites:

Cheap Tickets: How Not to Get Scammed

We want to share a story about a common scam related to buying cheap tickets that most people don t know about so you don t get taken by this cheap tickets scam.

(Note: This article has nothing to do with CheapTickets.com, which is a very good travel website we have personally used.)

The true story comes from our friend Steve:

Begin Steve s true cheap tickets story

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I decided to take the kids to Six Flags since summer vacation was almost over and we hadn t used our passes much this year.

If you have children, you know how special a day at the amusement park can be. You don t want anything ruining it, and you definitely don t want it to turn into a lesson about the uglier things in life.

The Six Flags near us costs about $40 per person just to get in the door, close to $100 per person for a season pass and an extra $15 a day for parking (unless you pay an extra $60 for the season parking pass).

As we walked up to the gate area, a woman came up to us and asked us if we wanted to buy tickets from her for $20. We have season tickets so we simply said no and walked away.

Unfortunately, someone else she hit wasn t as lucky.

To understand what we saw, I first have to explain how the Six Flags near us is set up. The people who need to buy tickets stand in line to pay the cashier. The people who already have tickets or a season pass get into another line to go through a metal detector.

On this particular day, the metal detector lines were horrendous.

As we were getting close to the front of our line, I noticed a commotion going on in the line next to us. It appeared that someone was trying to get into the park with counterfeit tickets. As I got closer, I saw a gentleman with his girlfriend and he was trying to explain that he bought the tickets from a woman who had been standing in front of the park.

Being a curious individual, I couldn t help but listen as the man pled his case, and as he started describing the woman, I realized it was the very same woman who had asked us if we wanted to buy tickets!

To the horror of my kids, I got out of line (they thought we d have to go back to the end) and started explaining to the security officer that the man was telling the truth and that the woman he was describing had also asked me if I wanted to buy tickets. It was at that point that the police were called.

I had to answer some questions since I had also seen the woman and it took about an hour before my family and I were able to go into the park. Needless to say, when everything was over and we actually got into the park, the kids started asking questions.

All at once I was asked why the police were there, why the man was yelling, why an adult would lie, and my four-year-old wanted to know why the police didn t ask Wonder Woman to catch the bad lady. (Wonder Woman was at Six Flags in costume.)

My kids eventually stopped asking questions and started enjoying the games and the rides, but I know they haven t forgotten the incident. Yesterday my mother-in-law took my daughter to a movie and when they got home my mother-in-law told me that my daughter had asked the girl at the ticket counter if the movie tickets were real.

When I explained what had happened to my mother-in-law, she told me the same thing had happened to one of her associates at an opera of all places.

After doing a little research, I discovered that this really isn t an uncommon occurrence. In fact, it appears to happen frequently.

Anywhere tickets are sold, there may be scammers lurking trying to con people out of their hard-earned money.

So the moral of the story is this

If you see someone selling tickets outside of a movie theater, a concert, a performance theater, an amusement park, a zoo or any other event or attraction that requires a ticket to get in, think VERY carefully before you buy the ticket, no matter how cheap it is.

After all, if you pay $20 for a $40 ticket and the ticket s counterfeit, you re really losing $20 instead of saving it.

End Steve s true cheap tickets story

Summary: buying cheap tickets (or expensive tickets, for that matter) outside of events can be an expensive mistake.

This is one of many reasons that ticket scalping is illegal.

Private debt collectors start collecting delinquent taxes from US taxpayers

The IRS has hired private debt collectors to begin collecting delinquent taxes from 12,500 US taxpayers, who each owe $25,000 or less in back taxes.

This is the first step in a broader initiative to outsource the collection of smaller tax debts to private collection companies.

Experts have several concerns, including:

  • It is much more expensive than IRS debt collections.
  • There is a greater chance that debtors will be conned by scam artists using phishing and other scams when private companies are in the mix.
  • Taxpayer rights may be at risk with privatization, since private firms are much more concerned with maximizing profit than safeguarding taxpayer rights.

Most people do not know about this new program. Given the recent trends and abuses in private debt collection that we wrote about a few months ago, as well as the other concerns the experts have expressed, we find this trend quite disturbing.

In fact, private debt collection firms have been known to be overly aggressive, even harrassing the wrong people.

For more info about these new trends in debt collection, click here.

Time to wrap up for today have a great week!

Great Airline Ticket Deals to Los Angeles

Flight Booking

Airfare is usually the most expensive part of travel or vacation. Therefore, booking the right flight is of extreme importance for hassle free and pleasant travel experience. Online booking engines, like the one on VacationSpirit, allow you unprecedented level of control over every aspect of your flight trip. Just type the travel dates and destinations in the boxes above, and you will be presented with great many options for your flight. Which one should you choose? Things like price, airline, flight time, number of connections, all come into play. Of course, each thing is of different importance to each person, but most people value the low price of the travel above all. That’s why the results in our booking engine are sorted by price. Automatically selecting the cheapest airline tickets, however, isn’t the best idea. Pay attention to the airline and the number of connections! Airlines are not the same, if you have had a repeatedly good experience with some airline, you might want to pay a little extra for it or maybe avoid a budget airline and pay a little more for a major airline, which usually tend to have better service. Number of connections is also extremely important. Usually, you are better of paying extra for a non-stop flight, than going through a hassle of additional takeoff and landing, in addition to the waiting time, and increased travel time. It all depends on the price difference. Keep in mind, that in rare cases, you might need a transit visa, even if you merely have a connection there. Now, going back to airline ticket price, if you’re flexible with your dates of travel, you can save a lot of money (especially on international flights) simply by running several searches. Here are a few tips:

  1. Start your search broad: Do not indicate specific time of travel or specific airline. Just try several different combinations of departure and arrival dates and see prices on which dates are the lowest. Then you can get more specific.
  • Enter a city for flight origin and destination: Entering an airport code (like JFK) will result in flights being displayed only from that airport, while a city will produce results from all nearby airports, making sure you will see the cheapest possible airfares.
  • Book your airline tickets early: There is a myth that it is cheaper to by airline tickets closer to the travel date. It is just that a myth. The earlier you book your flight, the more likely you are to get a low price on your airline ticket. If you have definite travel plans purchase airline tickets as much as 7-8 months in advance to ensure lowest price. A note of caution: although purchasing travel insurance is advisable when purchasing any kind of airline tickets, it is all the more important when you purchase tickets months in advance. It is harder to foresee obstacles to your travel when you book that far ahead.
  • Avoid Holidays: If your travel is not holiday-related try to avoid holidays. The low-cost airline tickets are bought of faster for hot days (like Christmas, New Year, beginning and end of school and college holidays). That makes it less likely for you to get a lower airfare. For national flights, three day weekends should be also avoided.
  • Don’t put off: Once you found a great price, do not put off purchasing the airline ticket for long. You will find that days and even hours later the fare you liked might no longer be available. If you see an airfare that you think is cheap, book it as soon as possible.
  • Visas (no, not the credit cards)

So let’s say you found a perfect airfare and want to book it. Wait. If it is an international flight, make sure whether you have all the documents and visas required for your travel or vacation. If you think that the country you are going to might not grant you visa, it is better to receive a visa before booking your airline tickets. Otherwise, just make sure that you have enough time and all the documents necessary to get all visas you need before your flight’s departure date. Usually, it takes at least 2 weeks to get a visa, and may take up to several months. So make sure you research it. Another thing to pay attention to is the expiration date on your passport. Normally, you would not be granted a visa, or admitted into a country, if your passport expires less than 3 months from your travel date. In some cases it is six months. Finally, there are many individual requirements that various countries have. Make sure you research them by going to the websites of their consulates. Visa problems are the most troublesome during travel and are very easy to prevent.

    Pack Your Bags

If you take a lot of things with you on your trip or vacation, – packing your bags properly is very important. There are two types of luggage: carry-on and check-in. As the names imply, carry-on will stay with you on the airplane, while check-in is submitted to the airline for the flight. Each airline has its own limit of the weight of each type of luggage per passenger. It is better to put things that you might need during the flight as well as expensive things into your carry-on luggage. Everything else is better to put into the check-in luggage so that you don’t have a lot of things to haul during boarding the airplane, exiting it, and flight transfers. Keep in mind that anything that can be construed as a possible weapon (for example, scissors, box-cutters, matches, sharp objects, etc) should not be put in the carry-on luggage. It will be taken away before the flight during the security check, and you may even get a fine. If you are in doubt about any items in your luggage, ask the airport security or airline representative while you still have a chance to take it from your carry-on and put it in your luggage. The bags that you check-in are being thrown quite a lot. It is a good idea to put a lot of padding around fragile items that might break during flight.

Why book a Round the World flight?

Some airfares may require you to include a minimum of four continents and at least two stopovers but hey, isn’t that what a Round the World trip is all about?

Are there different types of Round the World flights?

Individual airlines usually offer Round the World fares based on the routes they travel, as long as you include their central transit hub in the mix (like stopping in Helsinki if you fly with Finnair).

Airline alliances such as one world, Star Alliance, and SkyTeam also cater to globetrotters. Their Round the World fares are priced according to how many miles you travel as well as your cabin class, and use a number of different partner airlines across their networks.

Round the World flights can be a great way to rack up those frequent flyer points and move up the tiers of your airline loyalty program. High Gas Prices Raising Airline Ticket Costs – CBS DC #fly

High Gas Prices Raising Airline Ticket Costs

Spring and summer travel could become just a dream for many travelers as gas prices affect airfare. (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)

WASHINGTON , D.C. (CBSDC)   For many Americans, the lamentation of rising gas costs is nothing new. It’s an everyday reality to see prices at the pump going up.

But now, those looking to get away from it all may encounter further troubles doing so, thanks to gas price hikes that have the potential to curb holiday travel and drive up the cost of plane tickets.

Travel buffs are just beginning to solidify their spring break and summer vacation plans. As they do, comparison shopping may show that such hikes have already started to take their toll on the cost of airfare.

[R]ising jet fuel costs put significant cost pressure on the airline industry, Steve Lott, vice present of communications for Airlines for America told CBSDC. Regarding fuel, it was the airline industry’s largest expense in 2011, representing 35 percent of total costs. In 2011, the price of jet fuel reached a record high of $3.00 per gallon for the year.

He continued, It is even higher for the first two months of 2012.

Cynthia Brough, director of public relations for AAA, said that as jet fuel costs go up in tandem with gas prices, the consumer could expect to pay more for their flight.

As with any business, if [an airline] pays more for fuel and operational costs, they need to pass that cost on to the consumer, she told CBSDC. There have been [similar] effects in the past.

Though the illegality of price signaling prevents airlines from discussing numbers, Allison Steinberg, senior media analyst for JetBlue Airways, told CBSDC that there are steps taken to try to stave off the potential effects of rising gas prices.

We continue to believe the best tools for managing the impact of fuel expense are operating a fuel-efficient fleet and using efficient operating procedures, such as single engine taxi, she said in an email. In addition, we continue to manage our fuel hedge portfolio as a form of insurance to help mitigate price volatility and protect JetBlue against severe spikes in oil prices.

It may take more extreme measures for airlines to keep up, though. Lott added that, from the year 2000 to the middle of 2011, jet fuel prices rose 268 percent. In that same time period, domestic airfare costs reportedly rose 10 percent.

Fares over the past decade have not kept pace with costs or the price of fuel, he noted.

According to information provided by the AAA National Office to CBSDC, some airlines have already taken such action, replacing larger jets with smaller, regional aircrafts that are more fuel-efficient in nature.

Travel website Expedia.com confirmed that prices have gone up for flights in recent history. However, they additionally stated that ticket sales have increased as well.

Despite the recent rise in gas prices, Expedia sees people still taking to the skies, Jeremy Boore, travel analyst for Expedia.com, said to CBSDC. With regards to flights, on some of the most popular routes, Expedia sees ticket growth outpacing average ticket price growth.

According to their collected data, tickets between Los Angeles International and John F. Kennedy International Airports in the past 28 days have gone up in price by 1.7%, with sales up 14.1% in comparison with the previous 28-day period.

Other popular routes saw similar rises in both cost and consumption.

[T]here is still demand for travel, all things considered, Boore added.

All the same, consumer surveys and data collected last year indicate that some travelers did make the decision to avoid air travel, instead opting to go by car.

American drivers will still have to pay more to vacation, however, statistics offered by the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that, for the week starting Feb. 27, gasoline prices per gallon averaged out at $3.71.

That amount reflects a rise of 13 cents from the previous week, and 33 cents from the same week in 2011.

The past month has also been statistically more expensive at the pump than last February, according to numbers collected by AAA. The data collected and presented by their Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows that on March 1, 2012, the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.74. The same time last year, Americans paid just $3.39 per gallon.

The increase in cost can be attributed to a number of things, including dwindling supplies and increasing demand as summer ticks closer and the politics surrounding crude oil acquisition, especially in the Middle East.

Avery Ash, manager of regulatory affairs for AAA, said that gas prices do tend to rise slightly as March begins and winter draws to a close. But the rise seen recently is atypical in size, due to geopolitical influences.

Last year we saw escalating tensions in Libya and northern Africa, and that uncertainty impacted the market most specifically, the removal of Libyan crude from the market, he told CBSDC, adding that this year s recent tensions in Iran have taken their toll as well. This time of year we do see some upward movement, but the last two years have broken the historical norm in the magnitude of the increases.

A combination of pent-up vacation desires and years of experience with balancing personal budgets has helped American travelers enjoy some time away all the same, even if they had to change their approach.

[Travelers] did … budget more wisely, by perhaps visiting national parks for free as opposed to another venue of higher cost, Brough said. They changed the type of travel, but they still traveled.

But as Nancy White, who also directs AAA public relations, observed in their end-of-year holiday travel forecasts from 2011, many Americans will prioritize travel over other expenses, especially if family and friends are involved in the trip.

The heartstrings outweigh the purse strings, she said, quoting a colleague. People will do whatever they need to do to spend time with loved ones, making cuts in other areas of spending to accommodate travel plans.

How to Compare Ticket Prices for Flights #cheapest #air #ticket

    #compare travel sites
    #

    Things You’ll Need

Use a piece of blank paper to organize your search. At the top, write the dates you want to travel and your preferred times for departure and arrival, for both the departing and returning trips.

Check your local Sunday newspaper for a listing of the cheapest flights from your town to other destinations. Many Sunday editions feature a list of the week’s ticket bargains.

Check websites such as Expedia.com, Orbitz.com and Travelocity.com, which make it easy to compare airfares. You may or may not not find the cheapest prices on these sites, but typically you will find lower prices than you would receive from a travel agent. It is easy to book a flight, hotel and rental car at these websites.

Call the airlines directly. Often, the best way to find the cheapest price is to call the 800 number listed for each airline that goes to the destination where you wish to fly. Many times the agents know of “sales” on tickets which are not published elsewhere. You may have to ask for the lowest price available. The agent can book the flight for you when you’re ready.

Each time you call an airline, write down the name of the airline and the phone number where you reached an agent. Note the arrival and departure times, as well as any cities and times for layovers. For each airline, write the final price of the ticket.

Review your notes, comparing prices, travel time, layovers, and departure and arrival times, both from online sites and from your discussions with the airline ticket agents, and you will be able to come to a knowledgeable conclusion about which is the best ticket price for your flight

How to Transfer an Airline Ticket

It’s possible to transfer your airline ticket, depending on the time and the circumstances. (Photo: K-King Photography Media Co. Ltd/Lifesize/Getty Images )

    Related Articles

When you purchase an airline ticket, always heed the warning: “Read the fine print.” You probably already know that airlines make it difficult to transfer plane tickets, and depending on the airline, you may have very little luck changing or transferring your ticket to a different person; changing the date of the reservation; or changing other details of the reservation. Still, you can try.

    Step 1

Look at your ticket. Look for the words “non-transferable” or “restricted” on your ticket, as these words tell you if you can transfer your ticket to someone else or change your own ticket to a different time. If you paid full price for a first-class or business-class ticket, chances are better that the ticket will not be “non-transferable.”

    Step 2

Visit your airline’s website. Look for the “Reservations” or “Tickets” section to find information about their cancellation and transfer policy. In some cases, you may be able to transfer the ticket to another person or pay a fee to cancel the ticket and have it reissued in someone else’s name. Arm yourself with some knowledge about the airline’s policies to give you ideas on how to approach the next step.

Contact the individual airline that issued the ticket to inquire about transferring your ticket. Some airlines, such as American Airlines, have an online assistant who will allow you to change some tickets on the Internet, while other carriers require you to call the airline’s customer service department. Provide the airline with the information about your situation so they can determine your options. Since airline policies and individual tickets change so often, the only real way to know what will happen with your ticket is to directly contact the airline.

Cancel your reservation, if you were not able to transfer your ticket through your airline’s customer service department. In most cases, you’ll pay a fee of about $100 to $150 to cancel your ticket, and the airline will issue you a credit for the remaining balance on the ticket.

    Event ticket software

    Free Downloadable Templates

An event ticket template can help you make your next party or gathering special. It can be a great marketing tool if you are sending it out to customers and inviting them to a special sale or unveiling of new materials.

It can also be a good way to ensure you keep unwanted guests out of a large party. With so many uses for a ticket templates, it is a good thing that there are plenty of sample templates online for you to use.

What to Include On A Template

When you are looking for a template for event tickets, you want to ensure you find one that allows you to include all required information. For example, you want to make sure there is a spot to include:

    • The date of the event
    • The name of the event
    • The location of the event
    • The time of the event

You may also want to consider putting the address on the event, or putting some type of catchy phrase or slogan on the ticket itself to make the event more appealing. If you have given your event a special title, you can also include that took.

    Finding an Event Ticket Template

There are several online websites where you can find customizable event ticket templates. For example:

    • Microsoft Office features printable event ticket templates that can be added using your Microsoft Word software program. Editing is sample and intuitive for anyone who knows how to use MS Word and there are different shapes, sizes and styles of tickets. Their Holiday ticket includes festive colorings and graphics and they have tickets for tours, general events and raffles.
    • Free Ticket Printing.com allows you to design tickets online and download or print them right from your web browsers. You can even design a “base” ticket that you save and modify for subsequent events.
    • The Paper Stock offers several free ticket templates for Chinese auctions and raffles. You can use the templates that are based on the Excel program- for anything of your choice. The Paper Stock also sells special perforated paper you can print your tickets on if you are interested in that option for printing your tickets.

    Ticket Size

The size of your event ticket will dictate how much information you can put on it. A smaller ticket may be easier to create, print and collect at the door but a larger ticket can allow you to give guests more details.

Think about printing costs and cutting the tickets apart when you create them. If you make a smaller ticket, you use less paper, which can potentially cut down on printing costs. However, it may be more difficult to cut the tickets apart if they are small- you can use a paper cutter, but that may not be precise and you don’t want your tickets to have jagged and uneven edges.

    Printing

You will have to have a paper copy of your ticket, so you will need to plan for printing once your ticket is done. You can print either in house or have a professional print, so you will need to decide what is most cost effective. Consider printing your ticket on heavier paper or special paper to ensure that it is easy for people to hold and bring to the event. You may also want to think about printing the ticket on special colored paper to make it more visually appealing for those attending.

    Other Considerations

If you are hosting a large event, you want to make sure no one copies or makes unauthorized representations of your ticket so they can sneak in. Do this by creating a unique or hard to replicate design, by including people’s names on the tickets, or by including a serial number or some other means to check whether the ticket is legitimate or not.

Who is CityJet? Is it a good cheap flight company?

We arrive today to Ireland to get to know another European low cost: CityJet. I mean, at low cost prices the company offers a service that does not remember Ryanair and other cheap flight companies. L earn more about this friendly company that belongs to Air France / KLM group and can be an interesting option for flights to and in Europe.

I m here to give my contribution in another cheap flight airline evaluation, CityJet.

The CityJet is the third Irish airline, headquartered in Dublin, neighboring the capital Dublin and is a subsidiary belonging to the group of Air France, operating various destinations in Europe with a fleet of Avro RJ85 and Fokker 50, short-range aircraft, whose differential is being able to operate at small airports, such as London City that was my destination from Amsterdam.

The flight company is considered low-cost, which, in my view, is only noticeable in the ticket price, for, as we shall see, the service is well above the low cost category.

The option to buy a cheap flight ticket from CityJet  took in addition to price, was to check the cheap flight company flight  out. There was even flight options with similar prices in the famous British Airlines, but beyond the flight is operated to Heathrow Airport, which is far away that the London City. So, I paid to see.

The ticket purchase was not made directly on the site. Bought in decolar.com, similar skyscanner.com that would facilitate things if any problem occurred, besides the fact that the price at the agency to be more attractive than the site itself.

Of all sorts, I got to do simulations on the company s own website and found it super easy to navigate exclusively in english. The ticket cost a whopping $ 10, but the rates went for $ 70, totaling thus $ 80. Continue reading

How good are Germanwings flights, the low cost airline from Lufthansa?

The phenomenon of low cost airline and low fares revolutionized aviation worldwide, but especially in Europe.

The response of tradicional airlines was launching its own low cost airlines to compete with Ryanair, Vueling and others. Today, we get to know Germanwings a low cost airline form the giant Lufthansa group. We used the low cost airline services on an internal flight by Germany and we approved it. See how was the experience:

Between May and June I made a trip to Europe thanks to a mega promotion from a TAM, a cheap airline in Brazil. For internal transfers, I used the Easyjet and Vueling services, however, within Germany, we flew with Germanwings. My flight departed from Berlin (TXL) to Cologne (CGN) without delay.

The option for Germanwings was found at Skyscanner site. The airfare ticket we purchased was not the cheapest, given that I was traveling with a suitcase, but it was more inviting. The Germanwings is a low cost airline or better, a cheap flight company from the Lufthansa Group, and beyond to making cheap flights within Germany, serves more than 90 destinations.

    Purchase

We realized the purchase of the tickets directly from the Germanwings website. The site has multiple language options besides German, as Spanish and English, for example. In addition to payment by credit cards, the company also offers the option of paying through Paypal (in both modes, there is an increase of € 9.50).

Of the three options available (Basic, Smart and Flex) opted for Smart rate, € 69.99 (€ 20 more than the first option) that enables a baggage item up to 23kg, snack and preferred seating, leading with have more legroom.

Flying with Aer Lingus Irish cheap flight tickets company

Not as famous as Ryanair, but a great opportunity for those looking for cheap flight tickets in Europe.

The airline Aer Lingus was founded by the Irish government in 1936 to promote air services between Ireland and the UK. The company name is derived from the Irish long meaning boat , then translated as Air Fleet . The company celebrated 75 years in May 2011 and today carries over 10 million passengers a year to over 70 destinations including Ireland, UK, Europe and the United States.

How is flying with Jetstar, Australian low cost cheap flight airline

The Jetstar Airways is a subsidiary of Qantas and the largest low cost airline in Australia, Oceania and Asia Pacific.

Pet owners traveling domestically or internationally with their dogs have several options available when selecting an airline ticket for their pet. Select airlines allow dogs to fly in the passenger cabins or as checked luggage for a fee, though the animal must meet the airline’s restrictions. In most cases, the cost for a dog’s ticket varies based on the airline, flight length and size of the animal.

    In-Cabin Dogs

Small dogs, typically those able to fit comfortably in a pet carrier stored under an aircraft seat, are able to travel in the passenger cabin on several airlines. The fee for in-cabin pets varies by airline. As of publication United, Delta and American Airlines charge $125 for flights in the United States and most international flights in North America; Spirit Airlines charges $100 for domestic flights; Southwest requires payment of $75 for each in-cabin pet; and AirTran’s pet fee is $69. Most airlines require advance reservations for pet travel, and in some cases taxes and fees are added to the cost of the dog’s in-cabin ticket.

Don’t Let a Speeding Ticket Cost You Your CDL Driver’s License

Are Truck Drivers being targeted for a speeding ticket by politicians and law enforcement agencies? Have you ever tried to beat an unfair traffic ticket or DOT fine? Are you aware your CDL License could be in jeopardy because of a child support dispute? Your CDL is a necessity if you are earning your livelihood as a truck driver. It is an asset just like your truck and your home. Lose it and you lose your job and your livelihood.

In 2017 over 400,000 traffic tickets were issued to holders of a CDL license. Many of these were serious CDL violation that can lead to a suspension of your license even if you have points remaining. To see the complete breakdown go to NAFTA Safety Stats.

As of January 2017, two new traffic enforcement violations were added: ‘driving a CMV while texting’ and ‘using a hand-held mobile telephone while operating a CMV’. FMCSA Mobile Phone Restrictions

Here is an email from a driver named Donald about his speeding ticket and it is typical of many that we receive:

Ticket Details/Comments – State,County, Speed, Speed Limit: 3 tickets in 12 months for speeding (2 in Indiana and 1 in IL). IL CDL will be suspended for 2 months beginning in October. can’t afford to not work. have wife and baby to take care of.

Unfortunately, Donald waited too late. He is now out of a trucking job and it is unlikely any company will hire him until these tickets go off his record. It is extremely difficult to get a speeding ticket reopened after you plead guilty by sending in your money. If you have a ticket, click on the link at the top of the page and get legal assistance before you too are out of a job. This may be true for anyone that drives a company vehicle whether it is a truck or not. Your company’ insurance carrier will check your driver’s license record and will refuse to allow you to drive a company car if you have too many speeding tickets on your record.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is changing the trucking industry rules on a regular basis. Now they are keeping records on individual truck drivers and their speeding tickets just like they are keeping records on the trucking companies. In addition, a company will usually check your past CDL record through DAC which is now HireRight.

CDL drivers may request at any time a copy of your DAC report previously prepared by HireRight, and your active database files maintained on you by HireRight by contacting them at 800-381-0645. HireRight will also provide you a list of all HireRight customers who may have received your DAC report during the last 2 years. If you have an error on your DAC report contact DAC Repair.com.

Hi, and WELCOME to my website. Truck drivers are required to have CDL licenses and comply with a complex set of Federal, State and Local regulations Trucking companies expend a extensive investment in truck driver training. A trucking company cannot afford to lose an employee because of overzealous enforcement of a speeding ticket or a tragic accident. A recent study by a major university found that the average cost of replacing a truck driver is over $8300. In addition, trucking companies paid over 31 million dollars in fines in 2017 for violations of FMCSA regulations, many of them driver related.

I want to emphasize that the majority of trucking companies are very SAFETY conscious with an extensive safety program and insist that their employees OBEY the law. They do not want unsafe drivers or unsafe trucks on the road. A truck driver is a professional and his company expects him to drive safely and with courtesy to the other vehicles on the road. This site is to help you comply with the law and avoid the consequences of an unfair speeding ticket, not evade the consequences of an unsafe action.

However, my grandfather used to say that there is no experience in the second kick of a mule. Bad Things Often Happen To Good People. Just because you are issued a speeding ticket does not mean you are Guilty. I was employed for a time as a Police Officer in a small town. I know for a fact that many traffic tickets are more about Revenue than safety. This site is dedicated to helping law abiding drivers retain their CDL driver’s license, reduce their burdensome insurance rates, receive help when targeted by unscrupulous companies, and beat an unfair speeding ticket.

Most people do not realize that driving a truck is a business with all of the problems of any small business. However a trucker’s problems are multiplied by the numerous local, state and federal regulations that may change with the whim of a politician or judge.

Purchase a round-trip ticket. In order to get a best price airline ticket, you can also choose to buy a round-trip ticket from the same airline company. In this way, they would give you more discounts than you do it separately.

    #best cheap flights
    #

The Best Way to Find a Cheap Airplane Ticket, According to Two Guys Who Set Fares

    Photograph by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images

Travelers often bemoan the gambling in airline ticket-shopping: Do I buy now or wait to see if the fare decreases? One reason for that casino feel is the computerized alchemy of what’s known as revenue management, the airlines’ 24/7 effort to improve their financial performance by meticulously allocating the number of seats at various price levels and overbooking flights.

It’s an algorithm-based field of math and computer science that is, literally, akin to rocket science. A typical day’s operation for the average global airline involves roughly 100 million fares to be analyzed and managed, says Bill Brunger, chief executive of PODS Research, a revenue management consultancy and a former vice president of Continental Airlines (UAL ). He and Scott Nason, a former vice president of revenue management at American Airlines, discussed the dark arts of airfare pricing on Tuesday at a conference hosted by Airlines for America, the U.S. carriers’ trade group in Washington. (Nason also runs a revenue-management consulting firm, SDN TT H Consulting, in Dallas.)

Advance-purchase rules help segment airline seat prices into different market categories, with a single flight often having 20 or more fares. That model—with purchase deadlines of one to 90 days—helps revenue managers deal with seat inventory that usually comes onto their books a year before the departure date. Fares that are booked 21 days early, for example, generally cost less than fares bought a week or less before travel. Airlines also overbook most flights. The amount of no-show passengers has been remarkably stable over the years, so carriers can predict which routes and days correspond to a high number of absentee fliers. It’s also financially lucrative—overbooking accounts for 2 percent to 4 percent of the industry’s entire revenue, Brunger said.

And if you think buying vacation flights nearly a year in advance will help you get the best ticket price, it won’t. “They don’t know too much” a year out, says Brunger. “When revenue management people are nervous they usually pick a default level that’s conservative.”

As the shopping season for Thanksgiving and Christmas travel approaches, here are a few ideas from the two airfare experts:

    1. Book early-ish. Hardly an exact metric, Brunger concedes, but it means not waiting too long, hoping that an airline will have too many empty seats on the flight you want three to four weeks before departure and get desperate to sell them. (That’s exceedingly rare, and means something went wrong for the revenue manager.) The closer you get to the advance-purchase deadlines, the more clarity airlines usually have on their pricing forecasts. When it works as planned, revenue management means an airline has sold exactly the number of seats at each fare level that it had intended—closer to departure, the seats that are left cost far more.

    2. Book at a price satisfactory to you. If you can live with the cost and it seems decent, take the plunge. “If the fare feels like a fairly good fare, I would buy,” Nason said.

    3. Stop looking. You don’t need to keep shopping a flight you’ve purchased, see the price drop, and feel like a dope. (And airlines are much less likely to refund you the savings than they used to be.) Sure, there’s an argument to be made that such a painful education may help you become a better airfare shopper, but few people are obsessive or patient enough to keep tabs on routes’ pricing at all times. Said Brunger: “Buyer’s remorse is a real thing.”

Emergency Air Travel and Bereavement Airfares, compassionate airline ticket with #travel

Book Cheap Flights & Save BIG!

    Bereavement Fares

Unfortunately, there are times of emergency when you have to fly to see a terminally ill relative or to attend a family funeral. At times of grief and bereavement like these the last thing you want to have to deal with is finding discount airfares for your travel. Because most of these events are unexpected it is almost impossible to plan ahead for them. In order to help individuals who qualify as bereavement travelers, many airlines and agencies offer special bereavement fares help in a time of suffering. This fare is most commonly called a bereavement fare, but some companies call it a compassionate fare or illness fare. Here are Eros Tour and Travel we offer a special bereavement fare for those traveling to attend a funeral or to see a terminally ill relative.

Most people do not ever have to inquire about a bereavement fare, which means that most people know very little about it. We are here to help you, so here are some things that you should know about bereavement fares.

Bereavement fares are typically discounted off of a full fare or unrestricted fare. Bereavement discounts are almost never offered off of a sale or other special offer fare. It may be that a special offer sale fare may be lower than the advertised bereavement fare, so be sure to compare the two. The problem with special sale prices is that they sell out very quickly and are not always available for last minute travel.

Some airlines and travel companies will only offer a refund for bereavement after the travel has been completed. In this case there is usually some required information for the bereavement refund to be given. Here are some of the things that airlines require from time to time: the name of the deceased, your relationship to that person, the name address and phone number of the funeral home or church, the date of the service, and a copy of the death certificate. Some agencies ask for only one of these while others ask for all of them. Be sure to inquire about this before you purchase your bereavement ticket.

Some airlines and travel agencies have requirements about bereavement flight changes and postponements. Most of the time these agencies will work with you as you try to plan your return travel. Plans change, funeral arrangements need to be made, and the last thing you want to worry about is getting everything done before the day that your flight leaves. Check with the agency or airline ahead of time about their postponement policy for the return flight of a bereavement fare. Most companies will allow flexibility within 30 days after the scheduled return flight.

Please contact one of our customer service agents to book flights to your bereavement fare. We offer cheap flight tickets for all kinds of travel. Our company, Eros Travel Incorporated, is a travel agency that has been in business for 28 years and is based in Los Angeles, California. We are an internet search engine that provides cheap flight tickets, and we specialize in finding deals on last minute travel. We understand that this is a very difficult time for you and your family and we are here to help you make this as easy as possible.

When to buy an airline ticket

[Voice of Kristin Arnold, Bankrate.com reporter]

Take VO: Before you take off. you can land the best deal on your airfare. When you’re talking tickets, timing is everything.  Here’s the rundown.

Departure: First and foremost, you need to buy your ticket a good 14 days in advance to score a good price.  To get the cheapest seats, before they sell out, buy a month or two in advance.  But don’t buy too early. since most airlines don’t start releasing cheaper seats until 3-4 months in advance for domestic flights and 4-5 months before international travel.

[Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.com talking] “Most people are procrastinators. They book inside of 30 days of departure. In fact, most tickets are sold inside those days.  If you think about it from an airlines perspective, they have to hold back these seats for high paying business travelers. They’ve got to have a lot of trust that those business travelers will come in the last 14 days. And so, you really need to be buying that ticket no later than 14 days before departure.”

[Continue voice of Kristin Arnold] Business Class: Become business minded when buying your ticket. More airline tickets are sold from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. so airlines offer their best prices when people are more actively shopping.  Purchase volume is the highest on Tuesdays…which makes it the cheapest day of the week to buy.

Turbulence free Tuesday’s: According to Farecompare.com, Tuesday is also one of cheapest days to fly. along with Wednesday and Saturday. because they are the slowest air travel days.  The cheapest time to fly is usually the first flight out in the morning and the last flight out at night.

[Rick Seaney talking on camera]”If you at least take half your trip on those days, you get half the benefit. So, you know, leave on a Wednesday come back on a Sunday when you want to come back. Or leave on a Tuesday and come back on a Saturday. You’ll end up saving a lot of money.”

[Continue voice of Kristin Arnold] Don’t forget about the overnight “red eye” flights. another cheap option as they are neither comfortable nor convenient.

Flight data:  Just like you use your computer to track ticket prices, so do the airlines. In fact, if an airline notices that cheap seat sales are picking up, they can instantly raise prices. and drop them if sales are lagging. Since airfares can change all the time. taking advantage of email alerts offered by a variety of travel websites and airlines can help you get the best airfare bargains.

    Help Desk Software

Welcome to the home of an open source trouble ticket system . Use this CGI script on your web site for everything from bug tracking and customer support to project management and to-do lists. Creating a trouble ticket is now as easy as submitting a web form. The help desk software will care about assigning unique number to each service request and saving it to the database. Truly scalable solution: start with a plain text database, upgrade to the industry-strength MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server engine as your needs grow.

Say good-bye to mailto links and mail forms.

The “thank you for your interest” message is not enough today. Assure your customers that you have an established workflow and no question will go into a black hole. The Trouble Ticket Express software will automatically produce easy to follow instructions how to submit follow-up messages and monitor ticket progress. Then it will broadcast e-mail notifications to all service operators announcing new customer inquiry.

Note: The Trouble Ticket Express is downloadable software. To use it you must install the package on your web server. If you do not want installing software on your server or your hosting provider does not allow installing 3rd party programs, you may consider using Smart Answer – our cloud based customer service software . Smart Answer features trouble tickets, live help and embedded customer database. The system is deployed on a distributed failover cluster. Instant help desk activation with free trail.

Getting loads of inquiries? Need to answer them with a team of agents?
This is what the problem tracking software deals with. Have you ever happened to be writing an e-mail reply to a customer inquiry and when you have hit “send”, another member of your team has already dealt with the problem? It happens because conventional e-mail software does not support “group” mode. The Trouble Ticket Express solves the problem, as it requires claiming an ownership over a ticket, before ever starting to write an answer and ensures that no ticket belongs to more than one operator at once. It is like having shared mailbox with an advanced access control. Each e-mail message (or service ticket) has new attributes showing who is responsible and what is the current state.

Which help desk software package is right for you?

The help desk software comparison section provides side by side evaluation of 3 popular customer service packages.

  • High Gas Prices Raising Airline Ticket Costs – CBS DC #travel

Log onto the Web browser and navigate to Bing.com. Bing provides specific airline ticket price checks not available on any other search engine or online booking agent.

Click the “Travel” tab on the left hand side of the screen. Type in the desired departure and arrival city, whether its a round trip and the travel dates. Below, check all the boxes in the “Compare Search.” This will compare the cheapest flights available on Expedia, Priceline, Hotwire, Booking Buddy and AA Travel. Click “Search Flights” and in a moment the cheapest flight from all the online booking agents will be displayed.

Look through the prices until you find the least expensive. Take note of the flight information and the airline carrier that provides it.

Go to the Web site for the airline that provides the least expensive flight. Type in the exact same information into the flight search. Wait for the results to come in. In a few moments you will see whether it will be a better deal to go directly through the airline company or by booking through the online agency with the lowest posted price.

Navigate to the site with the least expensive option or choose the airline site option. Click to purchase your airline tickets online.

How to Change the Name on an Airline Ticket

Changing the name on a ticket is possible under the right circumstances. (Photo: ticket image by CORRADO RIVA from Fotolia.com )

    Related Articles

Ask almost anyone in the travel industry about changing a name on an airplane ticket and the response will be: You can’t. Sometimes that is the case. If your name changed, or is misspelled on the ticket, you may be able to get it changed. However, it is extremely unlikely that the airline will allow you to transfer a ticket to someone else. Exceptions are made, though, and rather than accept the no-name-change policy as absolute, there are steps you can take to try and get the name on the ticket corrected.

    Step 1

Read the ticket. If your ticket says it’s non-refundable and non-transferable, then you will have a bigger struggle changing your name on it. However, if you purchased it with cash and it is refundable, you will have more options.

    Step 2

Visit your airline’s website. They will usually have a list of issues that can be fixed easily, but for an additional fee. Some of these issues include changing the name on the ticket if there has been a misspelling or typo or if you purchased your ticket months in advance and then your name changed (through marriage, divorce or other circumstances).

Call your airline. Explain your situation to your airline. Some airlines are more flexible than others in this regard. If you can’t go on the trip explain why and ask that the ticket be given to the person you’d like to give it to. More often than not, the airline will comply as long as the person has valid identification and you agree to pay any difference in fare and additional fees.

Confer with a travel agent. A travel agent who has an established relationship with the airline will often be successful in getting a name changed on a ticket. A travel agent is usually a trusted third party and can help the airline decide if there is a security risk in allowing the name change.

Airline Ticket Refunds and Change Fees

Has this happened to you? An event gets canceled and since there s no other reason to make the trip, you contact your airline for a refund. The problem is,  getting your money back only happens under certain narrow circumstances and even making an itinerary change will usually cost you. Welcome to the wonderful world of refundable vs. non-refundable tickets.

    Refundable vs. Non-Refundable Tickets

With most airlines, you get what you pay for. Expensive, last-minute tickets that are typically purchased by business travelers tend to be refundable one of the perks of paying more is the ability to get a refund if needed.

So-called leisure travel tickets airfare purchased for vacations or non-business travel are almost always cheaper, and almost always non-refundable. Look at the fine print next time you peruse deals on an airline website and chances are you ll see non-refundable somewhere in there.

    Refunds for Non-Refundable Tickets

Some airlines will refund non-refundable tickets in the event of a family member s death or other serious event contact the airline but be prepared to provide thorough documentation. However, airline policies vary greatly in this regard: Spirit, for example, refused to refund the non-refundable ticket of a dying veteran. citing its strict no-refunds policy. However, even that policy changed after the story received heavy media attention and an anti-Spirit Facebook campaign forced the airline s hand.

    Non-Refundable Tickets and Change Fees

Changing a non-refundable ticket is relatively simple, and in most cases, you are usually allowed a year to rebook travel. However, there is a catch: changing most non-refundable tickets will cost you a steep change fee ranging from $30 to $150 (and the more expensive price is more common). Plus, if the price of airfare to your destination rises for the future time period you change your ticket to, you will also have to pay the difference. The only U.S. airline without a change fee is Southwest.

    Airline Change Fees

Click on the airline name for more details about change fee policies. [Editor s note. Airline fees change all the time so check with your carrier for the latest information.]

International Change Fees Even More Expensive

Change fees shown above are for domestic travel only. The fees for international tickets can be much higher for example, Delta and others charge a $250 change fee for travel outside the U.S.

For example, if you want to have China Tours. you may start out by booking an airline ticket. But how you can make it? The following is some advises for getting a good price. I am sure you would have an enjoyable china travel .

Check the prices online and compare the rates on different websites. There are a lot of websites that would have a list of all the prices. Have a comparison between all these prices and find one that is cheap for you.

Choose some budget airline companies. If you are traveling domestically within China, there are several cheap airline companies and their prices are always cheap such as Spring Airlines.

Keep an eye on the websites of some big airline companies too. They would also have some big discounts sometimes in order to attract more customers and to promote their business. If you find one, you can do it directly on their websites.

Choose a right time of your trip. Normally if you travel in a hot season, you would find it difficult to get a good price. So you should choose to travel in an off-season. Or otherwise you should book an airline ticket ahead of time like a month or two month ahead of time. You can also make your flight time flexible such as in the early morning or at late night.

Purchase a round-trip ticket. In order to get a best price airline ticket, you can also choose to buy a round-trip ticket from the same airline company. In this way, they would give you more discounts than you do it separately.

To do it through some consolidators. There are many airline tickets consolidators. They have a lot of cheap airline tickets too. If you consult some of them, maybe you can get some cheap ones.

To do it through a travel agency. Some big travel agency would have some cheap airline tickets too. You can consult some of the travel agencies and they would offer you some good prices.

You can also ask questions online directly. If you ask a question online, the consolidators or the travel agency would see it and they may give you some information. In this way, you don’t have to keep an eye on the computer all the time. You just have to wait. But in this case, you should be able to figure out whether they are official or illegal ones. You should be careful about it.

If you are interested in traveling, you should keep these advises in mind. For more information about traveling to China, you can go to Air China .

Save 30% on Your Airline Ticket by Picking the Right Days

Save 30% on Your Airline Ticket by Picking the Right Days to Buy and Fly

    Summary

    • For domestic and international trips, the cheapest day to depart is Wednesday and the worst day is Sunday. You can save about $40 on domestic trips and $60 on international trips by leaving on the cheapest day as opposed to the most expensive day.
    • The best day to return from a domestic trip is Tuesdays with savings of about $45.
    • The best day to return from an international trip is Wednesday with savings of about $60.
    • Friday is the most expensive return day for both domestic and international trips.
    • Thursday is the cheapest day to buy domestic and international tickets.  Saturday is the worst day to buy domestic tickets and Sunday is the worst day to buy International tickets. However savings are only about $10 between the best and worst shopping days for typical domestic routes, and $25 for international markets.
    • For any tip that is true in aggregate it is possible to find a market that is the exception, but you can monitor your markets of interest using Hopper’s tools .

Table 1: Summary of best and worst days to buy, depart, and return

    Departure Day

To find the cheapest day to fly, Hopper looked at about 11 thousand markets from US origins – 7,500 domestic and 3,500 international – that had a popularity of at least 20 searches per day since January 1, 2013.  If we average all domestic destinations together, Tuesday is the cheapest departure day, with Sunday the most expensive.  Interestingly, Sunday is the least popular day to travel, with Tuesday a close second.  Using the same averaging methodology, the best day to travel for international flights is actually Saturday (Figure 1), which is also one of the most popular days to travel.

However, pricing and search behavior varies widely between markets, so averaging can be misleading.  For comparison, we counted how many markets saw their lowest prices on each day of the week, and the answers were different.  For both domestic and international travel, more markets have their lowest prices on Wednesdays (Figure 2) and their most expensive prices on Sunday.  Savings for leaving on the best day compared to the most expensive day range from $40 to $50 for domestic markets and $40 to $60 for international markets.

Figure 1:  Popularity and average price savings (vs. most expensive departure day) for domestic and international markets

Figure 2:  Number of markets with the lowest departure price on each day of week, and average price savings (vs. most expensive departure day) for domestic and international markets

    Return Day

On average, Tuesday is the cheapest day to return from domestic travel and Monday is the best day to return from international travel (Figure 3).  However, as was the case for the best departure day, the cheapest days are different when the analysis counts the number of markets by cheapest return day instead of looking at the average.  For both domestic and international destinations, the majority of markets had their cheapest price on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, with Tuesday being best for domestic and Wednesday for international markets (Figure 4).   The most expensive day to return is Friday.  When returning on the best day, potential savings are between $40 and $60 for both domestic and international trips, as compared to booking on the worst day.

Figure 3: Popularity and average price savings (vs. most expensive return day) for domestic and international markets

Figure 4: Number of markets with the lowest departure price on each day of week, and average price savings (vs. most expensive return day) for domestic and international markets

    Booking Day

One of the tips that shows up often is to shop for flights on a Tuesday (1) after airlines change their pricing.  Looking at average pricing we found that for domestic flights the cheapest tickets actually show up on Thursday, and for international flights Saturday and Sunday are the cheapest to book on (Figure 5).  When counting the number of markets that see the lowest booking price for each week day, Hopper found that Thursday is the cheapest day to book for the majority of domestic and international markets (Figure 6) and the weekends are when tickets are the most expensive.  However, while the difference in pricing from day to day can be significant in select markets, on average the savings are only about $10 for domestic markets and $30 for international markets.

Figure 5: Popularity and average price savings (vs. most expensive booking day) for domestic and international markets

Figure 6:  Number of markets with the lowest departure price on each day of week, and average price savings (vs. most expensive booking day) for domestic and international markets

For any tip that is true in aggregate it is possible to find a market that is the exception, but you can monitor your markets of interest using Hopper’s tools .

    Data and Methodology

The data presented in this analysis comes from Hopper’s combined feed of Global Distribution Service (GDS) data sources which includes about 10 million queries and 1 billion trips per day.  Demand is represented as the number of queries not actual ticket purchases, and is calibrated across all GDS sources for each market.  Deal fares are represented by the 10th percentile prices.  For example if the 10th percentile price is $800 dollars it means that only 10% of trips are priced at or below this price.

For this analysis, we looked at about 11 thousand markets worldwide, 7,500 domestic and 3,500 international, that had a popularity of at least 1,000 searches per week since January 1, 2013.  We used two methodologies to find cheapest days to depart, return, and purchase.  First we averaged flight prices to find cheapest days, and second we counted the number with cheapest days for each day of the week.

Cheap Airline Ticket Websites: How to Get the Cheapest Airfares #travel

The Best Airline Ticket Websites: How to Get the Cheapest Airfares

    Your Guide: M.S.G.Quixo

We’ve researched the best airline ticket websites and found each one has different strengths. No single airfare website offers all the lowest fares, so to find the cheapest flights, your best bet is to try at least a couple websites.

Some airfare websites search all the top airlines. Others offer last minute airfares, name-your-own-fare or exclusive, negotiated, unpublished fares. And while you’re at it, most also search hotels and cars rentals so you can save if you book them together. You’ll get the best deal if you search the site that fits your style of travel.

Here are our reviews of the best cheap airfare websites:

Kayak.com Orbitz is still one of our favorite sites though they do a little more crossmarketing than they used to. Still a great site, especially for someone who wants an easy booking experience. Our stats show that a very large percentage of people find what they are looking for and book through Orbitz compared to other sites.

    Priceline.com

Priceline is unique because they offer a few ways to buy tickets. They offer negotiated fares that are cheaper, not just the standard published fares. Or, if you are flexible, you can name your own price and vendors respond. They also offer the same old standard fares as well. This is a great way to find a deal if you are a little more adventurous.

    southwestvacations.com

Southwest has worked hard to keep their online booking separate from other online flight booking services, so you have to do a search directly with them to check their fares. They don’t go everywhere but they do go to many popular destinations like Los Angeles, Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas and many more. This site specializes not only in Southwest tickets but also offers some very nice packaged deals.

Expedia You can’t leave off Expedia. They offer tons of info on published fares and packaged deals. They’re a big company, and the site is pretty polished and easy to use, so booking through them is pretty painless. I always visit Expedia for their hotel search. It offers great resources like hotel photos, maps and user feedback. When I’m shopping around Expedia is always helpful to visit. Offers: Expedia Last-minute flight deals – Ongoing.

Does browsing ticket sites in incognito mode and #travel #airfare

    #search for flights
    #

Does browsing ticket sites in incognito mode and/or from different IP s result in cheaper ticket prices?

I stumbled across a discussion yesterday where industry insiders share tips relating to their respective fields. Someone who works in e-commerce stated :

“When purchasing items on the internet (especially airline tickets), use incognito mode on your browser. We use your own cookies against you: raising the price on tickets the more times you check, as you shop around for better deals. That way you’ll think the price is going up or that seats are being actively sold – thus increasing your urgency to buy, and punishing you for trying to get a good deal.”

“The point is that it’s not enough to just shop around to different websites on your own computer anymore. You have to shop around with a clean browser, different browsers, different computers, change of IP, maybe try from work then RDP to your home computer or somebody on the other side of the country, etc. Also, always call the airline directly and check on the price – sometimes it’s much cheaper.”

Whatever You Do, Don’t Buy an Airline Ticket On …

    Scott McCartney

    Updated Jan. 27, 2011 12:01 a.m. ET

Shoppers looking for the cheapest airfare can learn something from stand-up comedians: It’s all about timing.

Ticket prices are highest on weekends, on average, according to online travel agencies, fare trackers and airline pricing executives.

When’s the best time to buy? Travel experts have long said Tuesday is when sales are most often in place, which is true. An analysis of domestic fares shows that Wednesday also has good—and occasionally better—ticket prices.

Though prices fluctuate frequently and the ups and downs of airline prices can frustrate and anger consumers, airline pricing actually does follow a cycle during the week. Many sales, in which some seats are discounted by 15% to 25% typically, are launched Monday night. That was true again this week when AirTran Airways launched a sale to all its destinations. Competitors typically match the lower prices Tuesday morning. By Thursday or Friday, many sales have already expired.

Two weeks ago, a Chicago-Atlanta round-trip ticket for April travel dates cost $209 on Tuesday and Wednesday on American and Delta, but then $301 for the next four days. When Tuesday rolled around last week, the fare dropped to $219 at both airlines for the April 8-15 itinerary. By Friday it was up to $307 at both American and Delta. Come Tuesday this week, the fare was down to $229.

Like bread, fares get sort of stale toward the end of the week, said Bob Harrell, a fare consultant who has tracked airline pricing for years.

For this analysis, Mr. Harrell studied all fares filed by airlines over the past 90 days and found Monday was the busiest day for fare changes, followed by Thursday.

When airlines want to push through a fare increase, marking up their basic prices across the board usually by $5 or $10, they often do that on Thursday night, then watch to see if competitors match and if the higher rates stick over the weekend. If competitors balk, prices can be rolled back by Monday morning.

High Gas Prices Raising Airline Ticket Costs – CBS DC #buy

    Reinstatement of Airline Ticket Taxes

    Aug. 5, 2011

IRS Statement on Airline Ticket Taxes

Today’s Congressional action extending the Federal Aviation Administration authorization reinstates retroactively the airline ticket taxes for passengers who traveled during the lapse of the FAA’s authorization. As a result of the bill Congress passed today, passengers who purchased tickets prior to July 23 and traveled between July 23 and the date of enactment of today’s legislation are not entitled to a refund of the airline ticket excise tax. Additionally, the IRS intends to provide relief for passengers and airlines with respect to ticket taxes that were not paid or collected because of the lapse.

The IRS intends to provide guidance to the airlines which will allow for an orderly restart of the collection of ticket taxes. Airlines will have from the time of enactment of the legislation through 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, to resume collection of the ticket taxes.

The IRS is currently reviewing other effects of the legislation and will issue future guidance.

    Aug. 10, 2011

Retroactive Reinstatement of the Air Transportation Excise Taxes: Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. How are federal passenger air transportation excise taxes (commonly referred to as “ticket taxes”) collected?

    A. The tax generally is imposed on the “amount paid” for commercial air transportation. When a person purchases a ticket for air transportation, the airline collects the federal passenger air transportation excise taxes from the purchaser and then later pays the collected amount over to the IRS. The amount of tax collected from the purchaser is shown on the purchaser’s receipt as a separate line item, often labeled “federal taxes.”

    Q. What just happened to the FAA excise tax?

    A. On July 22, the Federal Aviation Administration budget authority expired and with it, so did the authority for airlines to collect the excise taxes on tickets. On Aug. 5, Congress passed an extension of the FAA authorization, which also retroactively reinstated the excise tax from July 23, 2011. During the roughly two-week lapse, airlines were not authorized to collect the taxes, but the retroactive reinstatement in the law put the taxes back in place as though they had never expired. The IRS is providing relief for airlines and taxpayers who purchased tickets during that two week lapse. This means the IRS will not be retroactively collecting the tax since it was not collected and paid during this two-week period. Airlines had until 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, to resume collection of the ticket taxes.

    Q. If I purchased my ticket before July 23, 2011, and traveled on or after July 23, 2011, during the partial-shutdown of the FAA, am I entitled to a refund for the federal air transportation excise taxes that I paid when I purchased the ticket?

    A. If you purchased the tickets before July 23, when the lapse of the excise tax initially occurred, and traveled during the partial-shutdown of the FAA, you are not entitled to a refund because of the retroactive reinstatement of the law.

    Q. If I purchased my ticket after the tax initially expired and I traveled before it was reinstated, can the airline collect the tax?

    A. No, airlines were not authorized to collect the tax during any lapsed period in which the tax did not apply.

If you purchased a ticket between July 23, 2001, and August 7, 2011 — regardless if you flew then or at a later date in time — the airlines were not authorized to collect the tax and so passengers did not pay the excise tax. While the tax was reinstated retroactively by Congress, the IRS has provided relief during this lapse for taxpayers and airlines and will not collect the excise tax covering that period.

    Q. If I purchased my ticket after the tax expired and I travel after it was reinstated, will I now have to pay the airline ticket tax since it was reinstated?

    A. If you purchased your ticket during the two-week lapse of the tax and plan to travel after the tax was reinstated, you did not pay the airline ticket tax. However, the IRS is providing relief for these taxpayers and will not be collecting the excise tax on this ticket purchased during the lapsed period of time.

    Q. Which federal air transportation excise taxes expired at the end of July 22, 2011, and were retroactively reinstated on Aug. 5?

    A. The following federal air transportation excise taxes were affected:

    • The 7.5 percent tax on the base ticket price.
    • The domestic segment tax of $3.70 per person per segment (a single takeoff and single landing).
    • The international travel facilities tax of $16.30 per person for flights that begin or end in the U.S. or $8.20 per person for a flight that begins or ends in Alaska or Hawaii.
    • The 6.25 percent tax on the amount paid for transporting property by air.

Caution. Other taxes and fees, such as state taxes, security fees, passenger facility charges (PFCs) and excess baggage fees, are not affected by the expiration of the taxes listed above.
