Top 10 Cheap International Travel Destinations in the World, top travel

Top 10 Cheap International Travel Destinations in the World

    Top travel destinations

I love to travel, but as a college student, jet-setting doesn t always fit my bank account. Weekend getaways, staycations, and last-minute discounts help me make the most of my travel budget, but what about budget travel to more exotic destinations?

I ve found that visiting places with favorable exchange rates has worked out well for international destinations especially when I can also find the best airline ticket deals to get there. Some of the main factors I consider when evaluating a potential destination are: cost of living, visa fees, airfare, activities, culture, and safety. Using this strategy, I ve been able to travel to five South American countries in the past two years on a relatively tight budget.

With all of this background in mind, here is my list of the top ten budget travel destinations, with the underlying theme being very favorable exchange rates and extremely low costs of living.

Best Cheap Travel Destinations Around the World

    1. Uganda

Kampala is one of the cheapest cities in the world, and Uganda, known as The Pearl of Africa, hosts Lake Victoria, which is the second largest lake in the world. The official language is Swahili, but English is widely spoken, especially among the staff at hotels and tour companies.

Kampala is at the top of my travel bucket list because it s a hub for adventure activities such as whitewater rafting on the Nile River and bungee jumping. The city of Jinja also offers quad biking and river boarding (boogie boarding down the river).

    2. Jamaica

Jamaica has plenty of luxury options, but thanks to the island s new international airport, deals on 3,000 new hotel rooms, and clean beaches, Budget Travel has rated Jamaica one of the top budget travel destinations for 2011.

International airfare has been pretty affordable lately. I checked and round-trip flights from the eastern U.S. are under $400, which is cheap enough for me to justify a visit to an affordable hotel for a long weekend. Homemade Jamaican jerk chicken is a great plus too!

The only reason Jamaica isn t number one on this list is because I avoid hurricane season (July and August), but I d rather visit during the winter when I m craving some sunshine anyway.

    3. Bangladesh

Bangladesh was rated Lonely Planet s number one value destination in 2011. According to Lonely Planet, you can buy meals for under a dollar and enjoy river cruises for rates lower than what you d spend in nearby India. Bangladesh may be a non-traditional travel destination, but don t overlook it.

With the exchange rate, I ll be able to stretch my travel budget enough to sail by the Irrawaddy River Dolphins and see tigers in the Sunderbans National Park outside of Khulna. Bangladesh also has a wide range of handmade crafts such as coconut masks, bamboo sculptures, and folk dolls. Leatherwork and pearls are also popular exports.

The U.S. State Department warns that tourist visas granted upon arrival are usually only valid for 15 days, so you shouldn t expect to have an extended stay without a fine or special permission.

    4. Hungary

I m not sure exactly when Hungary came onto my travel radar. Budapest has gotten a lot of publicity lately for its beauty as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Fortunately, Hungary is also an affordable travel destination. You can get huge meals in markets for $5, public transportation via train for $1, and hotels for $20 a night.

The city seems like a curious mixture of 14th century architecture and modernization. Highlights include the gorgeous architecture of the Fisherman s Bastion, the Buda Royal Palace, and the tranquil Margaret Island.

    5. Ecuador

I spent an entire summer in Quito, and there s still so much I haven t seen. With just $3 for lunch, I bought soup, rice, chicken, juice, and Jell-O. A bus across the city cost 50 cents, and because Ecuador uses the U.S. dollar, I didn t even have to worry about losing money in the exchange. I wish I had time to explore beach towns like Montanita and cloud forests like Mindo.

The beauty of Ecuador is that it has a rich natural ecosystem, from the Andes Mountains running through the country to the amazing coastal rain forest, yet you re also near incredible major cities like Quito and Guayaquil.

    6. Thailand

I ve heard that the street food in Thailand is world-class. Blogger Richard Barrow tried a Thai Food Challenge and ate street food in Thailand for every meal for an entire month. His spending averaged less than $4 a day on food. At the end of the challenge, he had tried one hundred different meals. How can you beat the price, variety, and deliciousness?

It s no surprise, then, that Thai cooking classes are so popular, but there are plenty of things to do for budget travelers as well: relax on the beaches, explore elegant Buddhist temples, shop at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, and check out the busy colorful city of Bangkok.

    7. Peru

Don t be misled by the prices at Machu Picchu; Peru is really a very affordable travel destination. I lived in the Ancash region, just north of Lima, for almost four months last fall. A typical three-course lunch was as low as $2 in the town of Huaraz. Hostels throughout the country are budget-friendly as well. A typical bed in a dorm room cost $8 to $10, which usually included a simple breakfast of juice, bread, and fruit.

I also found public transportation to be affordable, although airfare within the country is expensive. For example, a bus from Cusco to Lima cost me $37, while the cheapest round trip plane ticket I found was $160.

    8. Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is an attractive budget travel destination for baseball fans and suntanners alike. Santo Domingo, the capital city, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site because there are still colonial elements from Christopher Columbus s arrival in 1492. The island comes alive during Carnaval Dominicano in February and Semana Santa in April.

The Dominican Republic is home to a wide range of lodging options to fit any budget, from luxury resorts to affordable hostels. Although it s not the cheapest country in the region, there is a good mix of sun, safety, and affordability.

    9. Croatia

AskMen named Croatia one of its Top Ten Cheap Vacations, and they say hostels go for about $10 per night. I visited the city of Dubrovnik a few years ago, and I remember being able to see my toes while swimming in the crystal-clear water. I also remember seeing the bright orange roofs on buildings showing which of them were bombed in the Yugoslavian War from 1991 to 1995.

While food and lodging were both relatively cheap in the Pearl of the Adriatic, I did have a problem finding shop owners and waiters who spoke English. I should have bought a Croatian phrase book.

    10. Argentina

I took part in a college study abroad program in Buenos Aires, so Argentina holds a special place in my heart. The cost of living is cheaper than in similar cities in the United States, but inflation is an issue with prices rising for the past few years. For example, I noticed that groceries were cheaper when I was there in December 2009 than when I visited exactly one year later. A bottle of Coke cost 3.50 pesos then and rose to 6 pesos in 2010. However, public transportation remains affordable as does lodging.

There are other equally exciting cities that are cheaper than Buenos Aires like Cordoba, Salta, and Jujuy.

    Final Word

I m grateful that I can still fit international travel in my budget. When I save up for a trip, I plan my itinerary accordingly. Choosing destinations with a lower cost of living allows me to explore new destinations for a longer period of time.

These are just the top 10 places on my list. How about you? Have you been to any of these countries? Are there any affordable places on your travel bucket list?

The Top 7 Disney World Vacation Planning Websites

If you re trying to plan a trip to Disney World, it s easy to get overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information available on the web.

A Google search for Disney World vacation planning pulls up approximately 462,000 sites!

But, lucky for you, I ve already waded through the web and found the top 7 Disney World vacation planning websites .

All Ears . This is my favorite Disney information website. It s so comprehensive it s scary. It even has sample menus from restaurants and reviews on everything from hotels to tours. Check out the Reader Tip Archive , as it s full of hidden gems.

Touring Plans. This website goes along with the book, the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. I highly recommend the book, as well as the website. If you buy the book from 2009, you get a free subscription to the site which includes specific touring plans to help vacationers beat the crowds.

Mouse Planet . I love their bi-weekly podcasts that usually provide trip planning advice. They also have great trip reports and articles. Mike Scopa s Scoping the Parks series of articles provides several helpful tips on planning a trip to Disney World.

WDW Luxury Guide . This site is for those wanting a more luxurious experience of Disney World. It focuses on the most exclusive resorts, dining, and entertainment that Disney has to offer. Worth a glance to see how good Disney can be.

Mouse Savers . This is my top website for finding deals for vacationing in Disney World. It provides coupon codes and has a section on preferred non-Disney hotels. It also provides deals on other things Disney, so check it out if you re a Disney fan.

Passporter . This website goes along with the book, Passporter s Walt Disney World. The book is awesome, but I love the website as well. The website has a very active forum with knowledgeable Disney fans willing to answer any of your burning questions. Plus, for just $4.95, you get access to their helpful e-books and customizable trip planning e-worksheets.

Tour Guide Mike . Mike was an actual Disney World VIP tour guide for 10 years. It was his job to know everything about Disney World. Most of his site is a paid service called the Automated Vacation Planner that helps you plan your trip in detail. I ve used it, and it s definitely worth the money, only $21.95 at the time of writing. He is an expert at saving time and beating the crowds.

I truly believe these websites are the best of the best, and will help you plan the perfect trip for your family. Be sure to keep this list handy, because once you return from Disney World, you ll want to start planning another trip back.

Top Online Travel and Tourism Schools

With the rise of websites such as Travelocity, Expedia, and Priceline, Internet travel sites now allow travelers to book their own flights, hotel rooms and determine both the length and cost of their vacations. However, what do you do once you arrive? What are the places you should go if you enjoy the local highlights and dislike crowds? What are the things to remember when making an international voyage? Is it the same as making an international flight? For these questions, and others that might occur, tour guides and agents are needed.

As part of the hospitality field, travel and tour agents offer advice on destinations and plan trip itineraries for travelers, both nationally and internationally, and some even make travel arrangements. Some agents also sell transportation services and make lodging arrangements at the destination. Other agents may simply help travelers by sorting through the vast quantities of information available for a trip, especially international ones, and locate travel packages their clients may be interested in.

Degrees and certifications in travel and tourism are offered from a variety of sources including vocational schools, community colleges and industry associations. Colleges can provide certificates or even an associate in science degree specializing in travel and tourism. Classes in the industry s vocabulary, cruise and tour brochure design, and industry best practices may be required by some colleges, such as the City College of San Francisco. in addition to classes in communications, marketing and anthropology.

As with all associate degree programs, an associate of science in travel and tourism degree program can typically be completed in two years and certificate programs can potentially be completed in one year, based on class scheduling and other factors. There are also certifications in green and sustainable travel which can be completed in one semester. depending on the student.

The International Airline Transport Association s Training and Development Institute offers both professional certification and post-secondary diplomas. In addition, earning a diploma from the IATA automatically qualifies students for certification as a Travel and Tourism Professional (TTP). For students without an IATA diploma, the requirements for certification include two-to-three years of work experience in addition to completing a travel and tourism program. In addition, the programs offered by IATA are available entirely online or through distance learning.

In light of this, diploma programs offered by industry certifiers such as IATA or the Travel Institute deserve consideration when looking for programs to enroll in for earning a diploma in travel and tourism online.

Below is more about the travel and tourism focus available from online schools and colleges through

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (, 2012) notes that, nationally, 14 percent of travel agents were self-employed during 2010; 79 percent were employed in the travel arrangement and reservation services industry during the same period. Licensure is only required in some states and only if the agent will be selling travel services.

The Travel Institute offers certification as a Certified Travel Associate (CTA), Travel Counselor (CTC) and Travel Industry Executive (CTIE). The International Airline Transport Association s Training and Development Institute offers both voluntary certification as a Travel and Tourism Professional (TTP) but also diplomas for both travel and tourism consulting and hospitality management. All IATA program graduates automatically meet the requirements for TTP certification. Both institutes also provide continuing education materials such as podcasts and white papers.

According to the BLS (, 2012 ), in May 2011 the national median salary for a travel agent was $33,930. The employment for travel agents was also projected by the BLS (, 2012 ) to expand by up to 10 percent between 2010 and 2020, about as fast as the national rate for all other occupations. Despite the projected outlook, the BLS (, 2012 ) does note that Internet travel sites, which allow travelers to book their own trips, could continue to suppress the demand for agents.

The Top Online Travel Booking Sites for January 2014 – Skift

    #travel booking sites

The Top Online Travel Booking Sites for January 2014

2014 will be an interesting year to watch from traffic perspective. While Priceline Group has a huge lead, Expedia and Tripadvisor family will continue to duke it out.

    Rafat Ali

Editor s Note: Late last year we started a once-a-quarter feature on top trafficked sites in various sectors in travel, using monthly data from SimilarWeb . We have found SimilarWeb’s traffic stats to be a relatively good barometer of web activity and much more accurate than other traffic comparison sites at least as far as proportional comparison goes.

We re starting 2014 by looking at the top online booking sites in travel. Keep in mind this does not account for direct sites of travel brands (airlines/hotels) themselves, which we have done in separate lists previously. Also, our threshold is roughly 5 million visits per month, and does not count any app activity, hence sites like HotelsCombined, Hipmunk and others don t show up.

Some observations on the list below:

    • Compared to our first look for October data last year. we re now grouping country sites of same brand together, to get a better sense of the scale.
    • is still the king in travel, by a large margin over Expedia and TripAdvisor.
    • Adding up s sister sites, Agoda, and Kayak, the Priceline family is the Sinaloa cartel of travel to use a timely phrase.
    • is still bigger than on a standalone basis, but Expedia s family of sites, including and brings it neck and neck with the TripAdvisor family of sites.
•, the Brazilian hotel booking site, continues to be among the top sites in travel, though we understand a lot of that is traffic it is buying from various sources.
    • Orbitz and Travelocity are not among the top ten booking sites in travel anymore, and will likely to have tough road going ahead.
    • is among the top ten, but we understand a lot of its traffic is marketing-spend dependent.
    • Indian sites MakeMyTrip, Yatra, and Cleartrip continue to impress, and clearly show the long term potential of Indian sites.
    • Airbnb is now among the top 15 travel booking sites on the planet, a huge feat for a company that created a whole new market.
    • and, part of the HomeAway family, are the largest alternative accommodation sites on the planet.
    • Skyscanner s network is among the top 20, but still has a long way to go if it wants to get up to the next run of top ten.
    • ThomasCook and (part of TUI) are among the only traditional travel agencies showing up in the ranks both of them are European strong.
    • The big omission is Trivago, which has lots of country sites, each with lower than 5 million threshold we re using for rankings. Hence their overall absence from this list.
    • Any other insights based on this data below? Any other big names we re missing? Post in comments below.

    Top 10 Car Rental Tips #travel #market

    #best price car rental

    Top 10 Car Rental Tips

08/28/2006 (updated 07/09/2009) – By Warren Clarke, Automotive Content Editor,

Remember when people rented cars mainly for the purpose of vacation transportation? These days, things have changed. The car rental industry has grown by leaps and bounds; the most current estimates available (for 2008) put annual car rental revenue at a whopping $21.9 billion. Airport rentals have historically been the main revenue driver, but that segment has remained virtually flat over the past decade and a half; the industry’s growth is due almost entirely to the explosion of the “home-city” rental market renting from a neighborhood location.

Those renting from neighborhood locations do so for a host of reasons. Some need an extra-large truck for that move across town. Some need a comfy hauler for a cross-country family road trip or a weekend of furniture shopping. And others crave a glamorous high-end cruiser for a fun-filled night out.

Whether you’re an airport renter or a home-city renter, we’ve got a list of tips designed to help make your car-rental experience as pain-free as possible for your bank account.

    1. Surf the Net.

As is the case with many purchases, you’ll usually find the best rates on the Internet. Shop around. Buying online will afford you the luxury of seeing what rates look like on any vehicle your heart desires, without the inconvenience of having a salesperson breathing down your neck. Also, many companies offer special discounts to people who rent online. Rates will obviously vary from company to company, depending on vehicle availability, location and other factors. But rates aren’t the only variable to consider. Consider hours of operation, for example; some companies may close earlier on weekends. Depending on your schedule, this might be a crucial issue for you.

    2. Go weekend.

Rates are typically cheaper on weekends. At one company we surveyed, you could rent a subcompact on a weekday for $64.99. When we opted for a weekend rental, the figure plummeted to a far more reasonable $22.99. If you’ve got some flexibility with your rental arrangements, opt for weekend rental. Your pocketbook will be eternally grateful.

    3. Weekly does it.

Weekend rates are great, but weekly rates are usually the best of all. At one company we surveyed, a subcompact went for a weekday rate of $56.99. That same car could be rented on a weekly basis for just $252.99, a savings of more than 30 percent if you used the vehicle for all seven days, and more than 10 percent if you returned it after five days. If you plan on using the vehicle for five days or more, choose the weekly rate.

  • 4. Think twice about insurance.

When renting a car, you’ll be offered a collision damage waiver (CDW) and a loss damage waiver (LDW). The first covers you in the event of a collision, while the second covers any loss to the rental company. Both kinds of coverage are a good idea, but not if they duplicate coverage already included in your own insurance policy. Most insurance policies offer liability coverage to protect you if you injure someone in an accident; some also cover rental-car damage via comprehensive and collision coverage. Check your policy or call your insurance agent to verify coverage before signing up for a vehicle. If you’re renting the car with a credit card, your card provider may pay for vehicle damages associated with an accident. Check with your card company ahead of time to make sure.

There’s one caveat. The collision damage waiver covers “loss of use,” the charge levied by the rental car company to cover its lost income when the vehicle is out of service. In most states, auto insurance policies don’t cover this loss, so if you have an accident, you may wind up having to pay this charge out of your own pocket. As such, getting the collision damage waiver may be a good idea.

    5. Book early.

It’s not just a clich ; the early bird really does get the worm, and he usually gets it much cheaper than everyone else. Rates depend on how many vehicles the company has on the lot at the time the rental is made, so sooner is better. Reserve your car at least a week in advance.

  • 6. Think twice about prepaid gas.

Typically, renters have two choices when it comes to fuel: You can pay for a full tank of gas in advance and bring the vehicle back empty (or less than full), or you can opt to refuel it yourself just before returning it. Rental car companies suggest that paying in advance will add convenience and that the low rates offered will save you money. Well, they’re right on the first part but wrong on the second. Paying in advance is an added convenience; if you want to save yourself the hassle of a trip to the gas station or avoid a last-minute rush when you’re trying to make a plane, pay away. But unless you plan on using the entire tank of gas, prepaying will cause you to pay for more fuel than you’ve actually consumed. From a financial standpoint, prepaying is a bad idea unless you’re absolutely certain that you’ll use the full tank.

  • 7. Be careful of upgrades to larger vehicles.

Sometimes, rental car companies will offer free upgrades to larger vehicles. They do this mainly because compacts tend to be in high demand. This sort of upgrade may seem like a great deal for you, the renter. If having a larger vehicle will genuinely enhance your rental experience, then take the upgrade. But if you have no real need for the extra space, it’s cheaper to decline. Larger vehicles burn more gas, so that “free” upgrade isn’t really free you’ll wind up paying for it at the pump.

    8. Steer clear of airport pickups.

Picking up a rental car at the airport can be more expensive due to taxes and fees. Try looking at nearby neighborhood locations to save money. A recent Travelocity study showed that renting at an airport costs more than 11.5 percent more on average than renting at a neighborhood location. Texas airports were the chief offenders, but airports in states like Arizona, Ohio, Maryland, Missouri and New Mexico also cost renters more in taxes and fees.

  • 9. Got kids? Seat ’em yourself.

If you’re traveling with a little one, you can save yourself some coin by bringing your own child safety seat. One rental company we surveyed charged almost $10 per day for child safety seat rental. Obviously, this can tack a significant amount onto your car rental expenses, so if you’re able to, bring your own child safety seat. If you’re renting a minivan, though, know that some rental minivans include integrated child safety seats at no extra cost.

    10. Join the club.

Many of the larger companies offer club membership in which members pay a yearly fee in exchange for certain perks and privileges. These clubs can save you money with benefits like free rental days and airline miles, but you’ll likely only see savings if you’re a frequent renter. If you fall into this category and use rental vehicles more than occasionally, go clubbing.

Top 8 Best Airfare Price Predictor Tools and Apps #cruise #travel

Top 8 Best Airfare Price Predictor Tools and Apps

I f you’re a traveler as I am, you sure know how important it is to know the fair value of your trip, and be able to save money while flying. But it takes a long time to check so many different websites for deals, and then go back to Google and check your favorite airline’s website once again. This is why tools have been created in order to help us make traveling easier. and cheaper.

Some of these tools and applications are meant to showcase the deals that suit your interest, some others are trying to compare prices and show what the cheapest airfares are. While a few years ago it was difficult to find any type of software that could help, now it’s hard to choose which one’s the best. In this piece we re going to tell you a bit more about eight of the most relevant airplane deal comparison apps, so you can choose the flight that suit you.

My favorite tool is and will probably continue to be Skyscanner , because it’s very good at showing you what airfares are going to look like in the next year. Most of the tools we know tend to only show details regarding the next month or first few months, but only few of them go as far as a year.

In addition to that, is also able to help you decide where you’d like to go. If you still don’t know where you’d like to spend your next holiday, you can simply enter the area or country you’re looking for, and the cheapest flights will be shown. For example, when I was looking for options in the United States, I simply had to add the location I was departing from, and a wide variety of low fares would be shown to me. I could either go to California, Florida, or many other locations.

On the bright side, this tool can help you cut costs by researching indirect routes, either than only direct flights. On the bad side, though, the “flexible” feature that used to be included is not available anymore. This one was helping you by suggestion near-by locations – if you wanted to go to Bonn or Koln in Germany, it would also suggest cheaper versions that took you to Dusseldorf or Dortmund.

You’ve probably heard of Kayak before – this one’s a tool that searches through many websites at the same time, in order to come up with the best deals for you. All you have to do is go on the website, enter the details of your trip, and wait for it to do its job.

If you’re not in a hurry, Kayak is also going to show you the best options during the next couple of months. And if you don’t find anything too exciting at the moment, you also have the option of setting an alert. This one will send you an email whenever you want – it can be scheduled to alert you daily, weekly, or only monthly. Whatever option you go for, this will send you the best options for your preferred destination.

Because traveling tends to be even more complicated when you’re a student, the StudentUniverse tool is especially dedicated to them. While some other websites simply try to inform you about the best options, this one tells us it actually negotiates prices for you.

By working directly with the main airlines in the world, this tool is able to provide students with deals to choose from. As they say, “we are able to negotiate special fares because airlines can depend on our patented verification technology to make sure that students are the ones benefiting from these reduced fares.” So, long story short, don’t try to trick them into thinking you’re a student if you’re not!

    STA Travel

Working in a similar way as the tool before, this one is also dedicated to students. It works with many global airlines in order to negotiate and win some of the most exclusive traveling deals. To be able to take advantage of this website, you don’t only have to be a student, but also under the age of 26.

Thanks to STA Travel students can book their next tickets for traveling, for their internships or volunteering trips they have planned at a reduced price. Plus they are also able to change their departure and arrival after purchasing the tickets, as STA is the only one providing flexible dates.

Momondo is a well-known traveling resource that takes a look at over 700 websites before choosing the best fares and deals. The reason why it works so well is that the company designed robots that search for flights just as a human would.

Although a very good tool to use, it has the disadvantage of being specially designed for Europe. This means it can work great if you’re looking for flights to Amsterdam, Rome, Prague or Budapest. However, it’s not going to help you find great deals for going to the United States, APAC or Africa.

If you are traveling just for fun, Priceline might be the best option you have. Why is that? Because it requires some flexibility in order to find the best deals – once you’re not stuck with specific dates for your trips, it can help you save up to 50%.

This tool works by choosing off-peak flights for you and using connections. This way, you’re not flying when everyone else is to a typical summer location. At the same time, you may stop in a few places, have an hour to change the plane, or you might as well have a long time to wait, which allows you to visit that location, too.

On the other hand, this website is only going to provide you with the dates of your flights. This means that you will find out when the plane is leaving and when you should take your flight back after you made the purchase.

The AirfareWatchDog tool was initially created to find the best fares. However, it recently turned into an alerts tool that allows you to enter the details of your ideal trip and sends you the best deals at a later time. You only decide where you want to go and what the latest date is then you start receiving alerts.

They are typically emailed to you every day, a few times a week or only once every week. It is very popular because it covers most airlines and is sure to also include smaller carriers. This way, you can go to places in South Africa or even Asia without having to worry about the price.

Last but not least, one of the most advance airfare price predictor tools available online is Fare Compare . This website compares flights’ prices from over 500 airlines from all over the world and is known to collect information about old and current airfares. This enables them to tell you what the best price is, whether you should wait before you purchase your ticket or not.

Being dedicated to true travelers, it also includes many tips and suggestions, while it comes with a Getaway Map. This one is meant for those of you who haven’t decided where to go yet – it’s an interactive, user-friendly map that shows you where you could go with the budget you have.

Top Ten Peru Travel Tips (spoiler: bring your own t.p.)

Historically, the times that I ve actually known what I was talking about have been few and far between. This is particularly true when it comes to travel, or geography, or really, facts of any kind.

Once, when we were in downtown Seattle, a middle-aged couple stopped Rand and me and asked where they could find a liquor store (at 2pm on a Saturday. I suppose they were putting the magic back in their relationship). I gave them very specific directions that, had the couple followed them to the letter, would have led them not only the wrong way down a one-way street, but nowhere near a liquor store. Rand looked on, in awe he would later tell me that I spoke to the couple with such confidence that, against his better judgement, he didn t question it.

I have no idea what became of that couple. Odds are, they probably gave up, headed home, and promptly divorced. But some small part of me is convinced that they are circling those blocks down which I sent them, doomed to spend an eternity yelling to each other, It must be here. She said it was here. And she sounded so confident.

The lesson is a simple one: asking me for advice is a terrible idea and it will ruin your marriage if not your life. And yet, on a nearly-daily basis, some poor misguided soul sends me an email, asking me what they should do in x country, and where they should stay. My response is usually, HOW THE HELL SHOULD I KNOW? GO ASK THE INTERNET.

And then I realize with no small measure of horror, some people have already done that and ended up on my site. To them, I am  the internet. I am filled with curse words and rude comments and things you weren t looking for.

And on very rare occasions, just like the internet, I have an answer. Like when blog-reader and certified chicken hawk wrangler (I totally made one of those up) Janine mentioned that she was going to be traveling to Peru. Janine sent me a message on Facebook (because she liked the Everywhereist fan page. Hint-hint) and I was quick to reply with some actual useful information, which I ve shared below. Hopefully, I ll was slightly more helpful to Janine than I was to that poor couple looking for liquor. Funny thing, too, because god knows they needed a drink after what I put them through.

    1. Instead of a visa, you will get an Andean Migration Card a little white slip of paper that will be handed to you, rather nonchalantly, at the airport. Like your virginity, no one will impress upon you the importance of it until it is lost. That slip of paper is as important as a visa you will need it when you check into hotels and when you leave the country. So don t get drunk and hand it over to the next guy who comes along.
    2. The sun in Peru is intense, even when it is cloudy. Be sure to wear sunscreen. We all got scorched in Machu Picchu, but that might be because we re pasty Seattlites. Ever lift up a rock and see the bugs underneath writhe around in a panic? That s us on a sunny day.

We expose ourselves to melanoma while enjoying the scenery.

  • Watch your bag. Hold it on your lap in restaurants, and not, say, over the back of a chair. Even though Peru is relatively safe, it s still a good idea to this. Fortunately, my bag weighs roughly the same as a medium-sized anvil, so I would love to see someone try and take it, then throw out their back in the process.
  • Nearly every place accepts either soles or U.S. dollars. So don t panic if you only have American currency it s actually worth something in Peru (and no where else. Seriously. Stupid euro.)
  • If you go to Machu Picchu, you must bring your passport to get in (having dragged it all that way, you can also get a novelty passport stamp from Machu Picchu. I did this, but kind of regretted it the stamp is about the size of a child s foot and takes up valuable real-estate)
  • If you are desperate for food, there are a few chains in Peru that are great one is Pardo s chicken. which is surprisingly authentic and yummy, and the other is Bembo s. which is less fantastic but not bad in a pinch. We had dinner at the former, and dessert at the former and the latter (What? This is me we re talking about).

Dessert at Bembo s. I was very happy. Rand was very dorky.

  • Haggle like crazy. Really, you shouldn t be paying more than a few dollars American for hats or scarves, depending on the quality. There are lots of little artisan markets in Peru you might want to walk around a couple and see the different prices and compare (in one place, scarves were 10 soles before we even started negotiating in another they were 20 for the exact same scarf. Guess how much I paid for mine? That s right! 25 soles.)
  • Carry tissues with you, and hand sanitizer or wet wipes, if you can get some. A lot of more rural places don t have t.p. and don t have running water or soap to wash your hands. Oh, and did I mention lots of meals are communal? So yeah.
  • In many villages, bakeries are denoted by these hanging baskets. Obviously, this is the most important thing you will need to know when traveling in Peru.

They also had a bunch of guinea pigs in a pen.

  • Usually your hotel can help set up a tour for you if you want to see stuff in neighboring towns. This is usually incredibly affordable. We spent a day traveling to Moray and Pisac from Cuzco, and they served us a snack and gave us an elaborate tour for $30 U.S. a person. The market at Pisac was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it.

Rand with Nicolas, our totally awesome tour guide who spoke English, Spanish, Quechuan, and Japanese.

So there you go proof that I m not entirely worthless when it comes to giving advice. Unless it involves finding liquor stores in my hometown. Then you re on your own.

    Top 10 Cheap London Hotels

By Laura Porter. London Travel Expert

Laura Porter has lived in the London area all her life and can’t imagine ever wanting to live elsewhere. London is her ‘specialist subject’ and she has written the London Travel site since it started in 2006.

This site was included in the “Top 50 Travel Websites ” in The Independent where Laura was described as a “mastermind” as “she has a knack for seeking out the unusual as well as providing plenty of practical tips”.

The London Travel site will help you plan a trip or enjoy armchair travel. It includes luxury and budget, the top attractions and the little known quirks that made the city so special.

London hotel prices stop many travelers from coming to this great city so I ve put together this list of London hotels that offer exceptional value for money. Back in 2007, the average London hotel room rose to £119 per night but I want to be able to prove you can still stay in the world s most cosmopolitan city for less than that, so all of these hotels are under £100 a night and some are well below that rate. Also see: Best Youth Hostels in London .

If you don t have a specific hotel in mind, I find the best London hotel rates are usually with Travelocity (Buy Direct ) or (Buy Direct ). I can also strongly recommend the Hotwire Secret Hot Rate as a way to get a real bargain.

    Top Airline travel Ratings #travel #costa #rica

    #airline travel deals

    Airline travel buying guide

    Getting started

High fares. Hidden fees. Long security lines. Shrinking seats. Crowded cabins. There’s not much to enjoy about airline travel these days, especially if you’re sitting in coach, according to readers in our airline survey, conducted this summer by the Consumer Reports National Research Center.

More than 14,000 coach passengers and some 6,000 first-class passengers who took a domestic nonstop flight told us their opinions about their airline’s seat width and comfort, legroom, room for carry-on bags, cabin and restroom cleanliness, check-in ease, service from the airline staff, in-flight entertainment, and transparency about fees.

You’ll have a more comfortable trip without springing for an upgrade if you fly with the airline at the top of our coach Ratings: JetBlue. It earned a higher score than any other airline for its coach cabin’s seat comfort and legroom.

JetBlue, Southwest, and Virgin America received favorable Ratings for their check-in, their staff service, and upfront disclosure about their fees. Passengers dinged Southwest and Virgin America, however, for their cramped and uncomfortable seats. Yet apart from JetBlue, all coach services rate poorly in these areas.

When it comes to first-class travel, Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines earned an exceptional overall score. Virgin was the real stand out, however, with top marks across the board. Hawaiian and Alaska (with the exception of its average in-flight entertainment) also received high marks in the rated areas.

See our Travel & Vacation Guide for advice and tips on getting the best deals on airfare, hotels, and more.

Can you find comfort in coach?

Overall, people in our survey had a pretty dim view of the U.S. airline industry’s domestic coach service. Amenities rated as particularly poor include seating, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment. In fact, apart from Southwest’s especially high score on fee transparency, no airline received a top mark on any of the attributes we measured.

Even the highly rated coach carriers received a few below-average marks. JetBlue passengers were unenthusiastic about its food and refreshments. People flying on Southwest gave its seat comfort, legroom, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment a big thumbs-down. Passengers had a mixed range of views about hidden fees, but they gave the airlines in the top half of our Ratings much better scores than the carriers that landed below.

The three U.S. airlines that control about 65 percent of the domestic market–American, Delta, and United–placed from the middle to the back of the pack for their coach service.

Two airlines made their debut in our Ratings this year: Sun Country and Allegiant. Sun Country was formed in 1982 by a group of pilots and flight attendants from the defunct Braniff International. The airline now travels to 34 destinations in the U.S. Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. Allegiant, which took off in 1997, travels to 112 destinations in the U.S. including Laredo, Texas; Grand Island, Nebraska; Ogden, Utah; Missoula, Montana; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Peoria, Illinois, and other smaller cities.

The lowest-rated coach carrier in our survey was Spirit. It received low marks on all the aspects we measured, and was significantly worse than every other airline in terms of overall satisfaction. In fact, its overall satisfaction score is among the lowest for any service we’ve ever rated.

    Disparities in first class

Three airlines stood out for first class: Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines. Virgin America earned top marks across the board. Last year the airline added free hors d’oeuvres in first class to its traditional after-takeoff cocktail service, as well as hot towels, table linens, and a custom ice cream flavor developed in collaboration with San Francisco’s Humphry Slocombe.

Hawaiian Airlines received favorable scores in every category, as does Alaska Airlines with the exception of its in-flight entertainment.

Much like coach class, however, passengers who flew with our lower-rated first class carriers were a lot less happy. Not only were United and US Airways first-class travelers significantly less satisfied overall than the travelers on every other airline that qualified for our first-class Ratings, but they were also significantly less satisfied than the coach travelers on the top six carriers in our coach Ratings.

Both were viewed as especially bad for cabin and restroom cleanliness, food and refreshments, and in-flight entertainment. (Note: US Airways took its last flight under its name this year on October 17, and is now fully merged with American.)

How to land the best fare

    Work the Web

Almost all of our survey respondents who booked their own flights did so on airline websites. While the airlines sometimes post great fares on their sites, you might be able to find lower prices elsewhere.

Start with websites that allow you to compare the deals from multiple airlines, such as Airfarewatchdog, FareCompare, and Kayak. Also try travel-agency sites, such as CheapTickets, Expedia, and Travelocity.

If you’re a bit more adventurous, websites such as Hotwire and Priceline are another option. Hotwire has set prices, while Priceline lets you bid on tickets. Neither indicates which airline you’ll be flying or whether your flight is nonstop until you’ve bought your nonrefundable ticket. To bid on Priceline, first check what other sites charge for a flight you want and then bid 50 percent less, suggests George Hobica, founder and editor of Airfarewatchdog.

Finally, before you book a flight you’ve found online, check the airline’s site. You might see more flight choices for a similar rate.

Top tips on travel to Ireland: from handling the weather to

    #travel to ireland

Top tips on travel to Ireland: from handling the weather to the locals (PHOTOS)

Heading to Ireland later this year or next? There may be a few things you need to know about before you head over.

Heading to Ireland later this year or next? There may be a few things you need to know about before you head over.

    1. Check the baggage restrictions on flights

They can catch you out, especially if you’re flying within Europe with Ryanair and you get charged a gazillion euros for carry-on luggage. Don’t forget to Google beforehand and check out the weight and size restrictions.

    2. You’re going to need an adapter

We’ve wonky looking plug sockets here in Ireland so if you’re making your way over you’d better stock up on the adapters. This is especially true for Americans.

    3. It’s going to rain

It will. You might as well pack your wellies now if you’re planning to head over because in Ireland when it rains – it pours.

There’s also a chance that the sun might actually make an appearance so don’t forget the sunglasses!

    5. We don’t all speak in Irish

Thankfully it’s not necessary to be fluent in Irish before you arrive – English is our main language. Not many people regularly speak in Irish in Ireland unless you’re wandering around in the Gaeltacht areas.

    6. But we phrase things differently

‘What’s the story?,’ ‘do you want a lift?’ and ‘get the shift’ are phrases used on a regular basis here but may not mean what you think they might mean. Never fear though, we’ve a guide to Irish sayings and phrases to help you along!

    7. We complain a lot

Usually about the weather, the banks or the government but don’t be afraid to join in – we love a good moan about the state of Ireland.

    8. We drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road

And by wrong, I mean the left hand side. Just in case you were planning on renting a car!

    9. Look to your right when crossing

Following on from that, don’t forget to look to your right when you’re crossing a road. Thankfully there are now handy signs on the ground if you need a few pointers.

    10. We were born to jaywalk

Listen, we just can’t help it. If there’s even the smallest gap in traffic we’re going to go for it.

    11. Blasphemy is illegal

Yep, it’s true and written in Irish law – whether people actually abide by it however is another story altogether.

    12. Don’t order a ‘black and tan’ or ‘Irish car bombs ‘ in the local

Just don’t. The barman probably won’t have any idea what you’re ordering and others may find it a bit offensive – don’t bother to risk it, safer to order a pint.

    13. Tipping not compulsory

We’re not big tippers here in Ireland except in restaurant situations where the 10% to the waiter is almost a given. But no need to tip taxi drivers unless they’ve shown good service.

    14. If you’re planning to rent a car, don’t forget to book an automatic!

The majority of cars in Ireland use a manual gear stick so if you’re planning to rent when you’re here don’t forget to book an automatic in advance.

    15. Booking a taxi not always necessary

No need to call up a taxi every time you want to head somewhere, there are plenty to go around during the day. You can flag one down by stretching out the hand or just head to a taxi rank. But if you’re heading on an early morning flight home, best order one just to be sure. Taxi too expensive? Save a bit of money and take the bus instead!

    16. Buses won’t stop unless you put your hand out

If you are taking the bus this is vitally important. But be warned, some days even putting your hand out and waving it around won’t be enough to make them stop. So don’t be surprised if you see people at the bus stop jumping up and down in desperation when the bus is in view.

    17. Prepare to be late, the buses are never on time

No point in looking up the timetable, sometimes they don’t even bother turning up. This is particularly true for Dublin Bus whose buses randomly disappear off the timetable. You’re almost better off relying on these transport parody Twitter accounts.

    18. We tend to curse a lot

Mind your ears, we do it without realizing! But we don’t mean it to be offensive; it just sort of slips out.

    19. We almost take pride in the state of our potholes

Ireland’s country roads are notorious for having the regular pothole. You might as well take a crash course in rally driving before you tackle our roads.

    20. Anything over 17 degrees is considered warm

Degrees Celsius that is, room temperature, about 65 Fahrenheit. We’ll head out in t-shirts when it’s this warm.

    21. Off-licences close at 10pm

If you’re planning to head out or want a good night in, don’t forget that Irish off-licences, err liquor stores, close at 10pm

    22. The perfect night out ends with a 4 in 1

What’s a 4 in 1 I hear you say? Why it’s the most delicious thing to eat after a night on the town. Usually contains chips (fries), curry, rice and some form of chicken to nom on.

    23. If you don’t want to stick out as a tourist abandon your Aran jumper

Seriously. We don’t really wear them very often and if we do it’s probably in the comfort of our homes where we can’t be seen.

    24. Never say no to a cup of tea

You’d be mad to say ‘no!’ We’re known for our expert tea-making abilities so grab the opportunity to have a cuppa.

Top Ten Cheap Family Vacations #travel #blog

    #cheap trips

Top Ten Budget-Friendly Vacations for Families

I traveled the world as a writer and climber before I had children, never realizing how inexpensive it was going solo. Now, with a family of five, even the thought of taking everyone out for dinner makes me cringe. Contemplating airfare and several nights of lodging? Forget about it! But, as my children frequently remind me, family vacations are important. There’s the quality time spent together away from offices, phones, email, and daily chores; the wonderful memories; and, of course, the laughter and fun.

To help you connect with those all-important familial things, we profile ten locations for family vacations that won’t break the bank. A priority is age-appropriate activities that aren’t mind-numbing for adults or boring for kids, and we also try to mix in a blend of physical activity, education, and sightseeing opportunities. National parks like Yellowstone are always good choices, but don’t ignore urban areas with eye-opening sights and stimulating museums. Affordable accommodations are important, as is accessibility. Australia is wonderful, but plane tickets are generally not cheap. And of course, safety is key even families who desire something exotic don’t need the added stress of an impending coup or temperamental volcano.

A few ways to stretch your vacation dollar:

Although rising gas and airfare prices make everything more expensive, there are still deals on transportation. Some hubs, like Miami, Los Angeles, and Seattle, always seem to attract sale-priced tickets. And sometimes you can get deals on local attractions and lodging with airline promotions. Flying alternative routes, having a flexible schedule, or adding a stopover can keep ticket prices down.

Getting the most bang for your buck can be as simple as a close-to-home destination, which will reduce a significant portion of your travel expenses. Driving can be cheaper than flying even at today’s prices, as the minivan doesn’t charge by passenger.

When you make reservations for restaurants and lodging, always say, “I’m looking for budget-conscious deals for a family vacation do you offer group discounts?” Families are an important demographic in the tourism industry, and more organizations realize that being family-friendly pays. And when booking reservations, don’t forget discounts provided by membership organizations (AAA and AARP are obvious, but many other groups, from bike clubs to schools to small-business organizations often qualify for discounted rates).

Also be sure to look for lodging where kids stay free. Many tour companies offer per-person discounts if you share your room with kids. Some hotels charge a nominal fee for a folding cot, but you can buy lightweight, highly packable sleeping bags for a fraction of the cost of a second room and put kids on the floor. To cut down on food costs, seek restaurants with kid’s menus. Some restaurants, especially those in family-friendly resorts, let young children eat for free. Get a room with a refrigerator by preparing some meals yourself, restaurant tabs won’t be so high. And hotels with free breakfast buffets offer no-cost access to the most important meal of the day.

When you reach your destination, consider transportation options. Good mass transit can save big dollars on rental car costs. Consider renting bikes, mopeds, or even golf carts (local traffic permitting). And don’t rule out boats, trains, or even walking!

Top 311 Complaints and Reviews about #kyak #travel

    #book airfare

Online since 1996, offers cheap flights and cheap hotels reservations. offers specially negotiated, deeply discounted airline tickets up to 70% off.

    Consumer Complaints Reviews

This is a long and involved story but suffice to say, have swindled me out of roughly $3800 over the last 18 months. I booked a flight from New Orleans to Australia about 18 months ago and found I was unable to fly about 2 weeks before my flight was due to depart. After lengthy negotiations with and the airlines I was supposed to fly with (who were helpful but unable to do anything since the booking was through a third party), I was able to keep my credit and change my flights, at great expense of course (I think the fee to change my booking was somewhere in the order of $800). While this was prohibitively expensive, since the original flight was also pricey (several thousand dollars), it seemed worthwhile.

Cut to a few weeks ago, when I found out through my lawyer that I would be unable to fly due to my current visa status. Essentially, leaving the United States at this time could result in me being disallowed to re-enter the country, so in her own words “it’s not worth the risk”. I try to do the right thing and contact to let them know I need to cancel, not really expecting to get any credit back. More than anything, I was trying to do right by this company and the airline. It’s a pain when passengers no-show. So I call the number of the website. The first THREE times I call, I’m put through to a customer service rep who, after saying ‘hello’, doesn’t speak to me at all. I don’t know if the call dropped (it was still connected?) or whether they just didn’t feel like working. But either way, by the fourth time I called, I was pretty annoyed.

I tried to explain the situation to the customer service rep who seemed more interested in talking over the top of me. He told me in no uncertain terms that I could NOT get any credit back on the flight and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, he initially refused. It wasn’t until I told him very calmly and firmly that I knew I was entitled to speak to a supervisor that he finally put me on hold and transferred me. By the time the supervisor got on the line, I had decided that there was no reason for me to speak to another rude, helpful person in a call center on the other side of the world. Previous reviewers are right, it’s near impossible to speak to a fluent English speaker who works for this company. When I asked the supervisor if I could be transferred to someone in an office in the United States, she simply said “No”. About 5 times.

Finally, she told me to just email. At this point, I was so annoyed that I agreed. Not only was the connection bad/muffled but nobody spoke anything better than broken English. And they seemed more interested in reciting a script than listening to what I was actually asking them. Email seemed preferable. Upon emailing, I was told that I would have to pay A CANCELLATION FEE. I didn’t get around to finding out how much the fee was because at this point, I firmly emailed them back and told them “Haha, no way. I’ll just no-show if that’s the case.” They then proceeded to call ME about 6 times even though each time, I told them very firmly that I was not going to pay to cancel my flight and that I would appreciate if they stopped calling me.

Finally, I called Delta and Virgin to find out if I could do anything on their end. Guess what? They had NO RECORD of my booking. I am not currently listed in their system (as of today, November 9 2015), despite the fact that I am supposed to fly out of the United States on a Delta/Virgin flight on November 30th. In the words of the Delta rep, “your third party hasn’t paid us for the flights yet”. Even though I booked over 18 months ago. Right. In short, AVOID. This company says they are based in Washington, they are not. They are based in India. It’s impossible to speak with someone who is fluent in English. They will give you the runaround and charge you excess fees whenever they can. And it seems like even if I had turned up to the airport and tried to board my flight on the 30th, there’s a good chance the airline would have had no record of me as a passenger! Not worth it. I wish Kayak would stop using them as a suggested third party.

Top Africa Tours – Travel Guide & Vacation Packages #airlines #ticket

    #travel africa

    Best Tours in Africa

VoyageTrek connects discerning travelers with award-winning tour companies. You provide the basics, then we’ll find the best travel expert for your needs to book your tour.

For hundreds of years, a Grand Safari tour of Africa has marked the epitome of adventure for the well-heeled and bold. Sate your wanderlust on a whirlwind journey into the heart of the world’s second-largest continent. While Africa remains no less romantic and exotic than ever, tremendous advances in transportation and the encroachment of modern technology have made tourism more accessible and comfortable than in days of old. Once isolated and wild, sleepy Africa is gradually awakening to the world tourism. Indulgent resort-style vacation opportunities exist alongside the spartan camp-tent treks of old, affording the more enjoyable outdoor experiences with all the comforts and pampering of mainstream travel.

Perhaps the most surprising and enjoyable facet of Africa is its diversity. From the culture of its people to the natural landscape, Africa’s vastness is reflected in the tremendous range of variety to be found there. Africa’s boundaries contain both the world’s largest free-standing mountain (Mt. Kilimanjaro), and the Djibouti’s Lake Assal, the second-lowest place on Earth. The saltiest lake outside Antarctica is here, as well as the hottest place on the globe. The cradle of human civilization can be traced to Africa, as can thousands of years of history that came after: the pyramids of Egypt, the Roman theater of Libya, and Old Mogadishu all stand witness to the passage of time. From the vast wilderness of the Serengeti or the salt pans to the bustling, modern cities of South Africa, just about every degree of life is represented.

Your modern-day African adventure will encompass all sorts of diversions, from camping beneath the stars, white-water rafting, hot air balloon safaris, and jungle treks to fine dining and exploring world-class museums. Natural wonders, manmade marvels, and a dizzying assortment of animal life await you here. Africa’s a big place, and visiting everything it has to offer is well outside the ability of any one traveler. Rest assured, though, that anywhere you go, you are guaranteed a voyage you’ll remember for a lifetime.

    Africa Top Sights

The game parks of Kenya set the standard for exotic beauty. Prominent among them are Masai Mara, which is contiguous with Tanzania’s Serengeti, and the storied Nairobi National Park. Lions, cheetah, and leopards abound in Masai Mara, which is also famous for fantastic viewing of the annual wildebeest migration. Perhaps the best way to experience this extraordinary movement is above, by hot air balloon! Nairobi is one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, in addition to the home of the eponymous national park. Dance all night in the bustling Westlands district, where both expats and locals come to party, or bargain for treasures at the hectic and colorful Maasai market. Another must-see: Sibiloi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of tremendous archaeological significance for the discoveries it has yielded towards our understanding of the origin of man.

A world of curious, but undeniable charm awaits you in Madagascar. You’ll come face-to-face with the most famous Malagasy residents: lemurs! There’s nearly a hundred different species of these quirky cuties, the stars of the show on any jungle trek. Take a sunset cruise in a pirogue while staying in “Tana,” the capital, and tour the hilltop palace of Ambohimanga. World-class snorkeling and sunbathing can be found on the island getaway of Nosy Be, as well as tours of ylang-ylang plantations fragrant with the intoxicating perfume of a million golden blossoms. The old royal city of Fianarantsoa features exquisite Arabian minarets and winding alleys reminiscent of hand-tinted picture postcards. Wine tours and shopping the historic market are prominent attractions here. Then ascend to the strange, compelling limestone peaks of Tsingy de Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site distinguished by untouched wilderness and fascinating ecotourism.

    South Africa

Cosmopolitan, historic South Africa is riddled with cultural diversity and scenic loveliness. It is one of the most liberal areas of the continent, and a popular tourist destination. Cape Town derives its name from the original Portuguese name, “the cape of good hope,” and is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Just about everything you could ever want in a vacation can be found in Cape Town: cable car rides to the top of Table Mountain, worshipping the sun from the sweeping beaches of False Bay, wine tasting, and deep sea fishing. Diverse, huge Johannesburg is richly steeped in history. Learn about gold mining (in which South Africa corners the world market), visit the old fort at the base of Constitution Hill, or pop in on the sleek beauties at Lion Park. You’ll want to watch your oranges in Addo Elephant National Park, in the Eastern Cape region, where the gentle giants for whom the preserve was named and created will snatch treats right from your car! A 4×4 tour of the park affords ample opportunities to view zebras, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos.

Tanzania is a real up-and-comer in the world tourism scene, and with good reason. The wilds of this equatorial paradise beckon with enormous game reserves, exciting safaris, and the promise of nights spent beneath the starriest skies you can imagine. The cauldron of Ngorongoro Crater is a singular marvel, a mixing bowl of tens of thousands of wild animals sheltered by the steep lip of the caldera. The highly endangered black rhino can be spotted here, along with lions and bull elephants. The endless plains of the Serengeti offer the chance to safari by car, foot, or hot air balloon! You can lunch beneath a shade tree and sneak a peek of zebra and wildebeest. There’s no better viewing spot of the Great Migration. Gaze upon the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, and brave a climb to the top. The ascent, while lengthy, is not especially demanding as far as mountain climbing goes—this makes it quite popular and widely accessible. Or escape to the spice island of Zanzibar, a paradise of sparkling seas and white sand located twenty-two miles off the mainland.

Exclusive, luxurious, and unspoiled… there is nothing quite like Botswana. Private safari camps afford the chance to brush with wildlife from the lap of luxury. You’ll sip champagne within a traditionally-styled camp tent, and peek at giraffes and exotic birds while basking poolside beneath the Southern African sun. Encounter bushmen on the fringes of the vast Kalahari Desert, and scoop up hand-crafted treasures like seed jewelry and books of art. You’ll roast dinner over a roaring fire beneath the endless expanse of the night sky, forging new friendships and cementing old ones for a lifetime. Safaris of the Okavango Delta offer glimpses of meerkats, Nile crocodiles, lions, and hippos amidst stunning natural beauty. The vast, inhospitable salt pans of Makgadikgadi are the largest in the world. The dry savanna is home to ostriches, plovers, flamingos, and zebra, and off road tours by bike or quad vehicle are popular. On the opposite end of the topological spectrum is the verdant jewel of Chobe National Park, The “big 5” game species (elephants, lion, leopards, buffalo, and rhino) live here, and high-end safari lodges situated in in midst of the park give you the chance to get up-close and personal with these grassland superstars.

It has been said that the closest thing to a taste of “real Africa” can be found in Zambia. While outstanding safaris, authentic tribal villages, and numerous cultural celebrations all beckon visitors, the real star of Zambian tourism is Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Called “the smoke that thunders,” the falls are both breathtakingly wide and precariously deep. Canoeing the peaceful waters above the falls and white-water rafting the turbulent rapids below both offer excellent opportunities to enjoy Vic Falls all day long. Plentiful food and drink and great company are hallmarks of either type of adventure. Sunset cruises of the Zambezi are romantic and lingering, a must-do activity for couples. Thrillseekers can bungee jump or gorge-swing with the natural advantage of the heights, or take a helicopter tour for a slightly less hair-raising aerial appreciation of the sights.

    Top Ten Budget Beach Vacations

Experienced world travelers will no doubt point out that I didn’t pick the cheapest of the cheap beach locales for this compilation of top budget beach vacations. After all, why not include Goa, India; Mombasa, Kenya; Lombok, Indonesia; Koh Phi Phi, Thailand; or Nha Trang, Vietnam? I agree, you can usually find a hut on the beach at those destinations for less than ten bucks a day; however, take into account the cost of a long flight and the luxury of time that most travelers don’t have and it turns into a much pricier endeavor. So, for practical purposes, I’ve limited my choices to the best budget beach vacations in North and Central America, with a special shout-out to Brazil. Now you have no excuse not to lather on the lotion and throw down your beach towel.

    10. Destin, Florida

The Florida Panhandle is a coveted place that Southerners would prefer to keep to themselves. With a 100-mile stretch of sugary sand that fronts the Gulf of Mexico, and a fair share of golf and tennis, who can blame them? In Destin, the heart of the Panhandle, wake up early in the morning and take a stroll with the pelicans and sandpipers on the beach just as the fishing boats head out to sea. Feel free to join them and drop your own line to catch snapper and grouper. Later, discuss your day’s adventure at one of Destin’s dockside caf s. The blues and country music is always live and the fish and oysters always fresh. Stay at the Wingate. where room prices, with continental breakfast, start in the double digits in the off-season.

    9. Outer Banks, North Carolina

Lining the North Carolina coast, the Outer Banks consists of barriers of sand 150 miles long and never more than a few miles wide. These islands serve as welcome mats to the Atlantic and all her treasures. Forage the sea for a bounty of bluefish, flounder, and drum, or walk the wild dunes, a naturalist’s playground. Close to 400 species of birds, from native Carolina wrens to wintering bald eagles, can be found here, along with otters and sea turtle colonies. Add five lighthouses and you have yourself a seaworthy destination that even a pirate like Blackbeard (a former resident) could call home. Landlubbers will want to visit Kitty Hawk, the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright learned how to fly, and the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. For clean, affordable lodging close to the beach, you can do no better than the Driftwood Motel on Cedar Island, where rooms start at $65 a night.

    8. Huntington Beach, California

Most folks equate Orange County, California, with chi-chi Laguna Beach and all the celebs and young retirees who reside here. Yet just a wee bit north of Laguna is the far more affordable Huntington Beach, popular with the surfer crowd. Make the International Surfing Museum your first stop and then see if any hot-doggers are doing their stuff over by the pier. It won’t be hard to find your own slice of paradise since Huntington Beach boasts eight miles of uninterrupted waterfront. Stay across from the beach, on the Pacific Coast Highway, at the Sun n’ Sands Motel. where rooms start at $129 a night and the restaurants in town are just a short walk away.

    7. Cape Ann, Massachusetts

Wise-faced fishermen sew their nets in the early hours of the morning on the docks of America’s oldest fishing port, Gloucester. In nearby Manchester-by-the-Sea, couples and families stake their claim to exquisite Singing Beach, tucked away in a cove and backed by cliffs and precariously perched mansions. Welcome to Massachusetts’s lesser known cape, the one locals don’t want you to know about, Cape Ann. Forty miles north of Boston (reachable by commuter rail), Cape Ann beckons sun worshippers to its long stretches of sand. When you tire of the sun, head to the village of Rockport, known for its shops, galleries, and restaurants. Or try a famous lobster-in-the-rough joint, Woodman’s in Essex, the seafood shack that created the fried clam on July 3, 1916. Stay at the Wingaersheek Motel. which has discount beach passes to nearby Wingaersheek Beach, a family favorite. Rooms start at $100 a night in summer.

    6. Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

Let the affluent spend gobs of money on the Pacific coast at familiar resorts like the Marriott and Four Seasons while travelers in the know follow the surfers to the Caribbean coast of this Central American country. At Puerto Viejo, you can walk on deserted beaches all the way south to Panama. The town has a laid-back, international appeal, with top-notch South American, Costa Rican, and Italian food. South of town, there are a number of bungalow-laden lodgings within easy walking distance of the beach, where rooms rarely exceed $85 a night. Check out La Costa de Papito or Playa Chiquita Lodge .

    Top European train trips #south #hall #travels

    Top European train trips

By Joe Minihane, for CNN Travel – 11 February, 2013

There’s something magical about boarding from a rail platform in London and disembarking in Paris, or breaking out a bottle of wine on an overnight train for a romantic weekend in St. Petersburg.

Glacier trains, lake views and mountain passes … Europe’s best train journeys second as destinations unto themselves.

Tell us about your favorite European train trips in the comments section.

    London to Avignon

London’s Eurostar connection has made hopping on the train to the continent a far more enjoyable alternative than venturing out to the city’s crowded, retail-obsessed airports.

This gorgeous, long-distance route to southern France’s former papal seat can be done direct in the summer in less than six hours, with service every Saturday.

Non-direct journeys involve a swift change in Lille, adding just half an hour to the journey time.

A stretch through the Kent countryside gives you a brief glimpse of one of England’s prettiest counties before the train rolls on at 300 kph through eastern France, with beautiful views of vineyards and ancient towns.

Take the early train and you’ll be there in time for a leisurely glass of Chateauneuf.

    From £264 (US$399) round-trip;

    Geneva to Milan

For the majority of this four-hour trip you’ll be looking out at spectacular views of Lake Geneva before racing across alpine meadows bordered by colossal snow-topped mountains.

The train passes through the towns of Lausanne and Brig, where you can jump off and take the stunning Glacier Express, which takes seven and a half hours to chug along endless switchbacks to the ski resort of St. Moritz.

No worries about tight schedules: Swiss railways are among the most punctual in the world.

    From CHF181 (US$195) round-trip;

    Le Train Jaune, Pyrenees

You can lean from the open windows to feel the breeze.

Resembling the sort of toy train you’d find in a model village,  Le Train Jaune, the “yellow train,” is a century-old institution that offers spectacular views of the Pyrenees.

It’s also an ideal way for skiers in this corner of France to reach the area’s excellent resorts.

Running between the mountain villages of Villefranche de Conflent and Latour de Carol, the train creeps up to a height of 1,600 meters above sea level during its three-hour ascent, crossing original suspension bridges and forts that helped defend this border region long ago.

    From €34 (US$42) round-trip;

    Berlin to Moscow

A classic route between two of eastern Europe’s most powerful and beguiling cities.

This day-long trip strikes east to the nearby Polish border, through the Polish cities of Poznan and Warsaw before traversing Belarus via Minsk and entering Russia.

Vast, snowy winter landscapes are what really make this a must-do in the frigid months of the year. Second-class private berths are snug, with two bunks and a fold-down chair, while swankier first-class berths come with a TV and wine.

Note: You’ll need a transit visa for getting through Belarus.

    Zurich Airport to Arosa

Rightly billed as the world’s most beautiful airport transfer, this route, via a quick change to a smaller regional service in the town of Chur, is the perfect introduction to Switzerland.

The journey from Chur passes through the town’s postcard outskirts before heaving itself up impossibly steep hairpins.

The views are top notch, with mountain passes and snowy forests in every direction.

The real highlight comes when the train glides across the Langwieser Viadukt, 60 meters above the thundering River Plessure.  The world’s first reinforced concrete viaduct, it’s a marvel of Swiss engineering.

There’s simply no better way to ease into a week on the slopes.

    From CHF23 (US$25) round-trip;

    Sofia to Belgrade

You won’t want to sleep through one of the continent’s most fascinating train rides.

You can grab a bunk and take a sleeper on this jaunt through the Balkans, but you’d be missing out on one of the continent’s most fascinating views.

Starting in Bulgaria’s increasingly popular capital, the eight-hour day train offers a fascinating glimpse into how this recently troubled part of Europe still has one foot in the past.

The rolling stock is Communist-era vintage and some of the guards still wear Yugoslavian uniforms, while the views range from  idiosyncratic Orthodox churches to the kind of Old World agricultural landscapes you probably thought had died out in Europe some time in the mid-20th century.

    From 26 BGN Lev (US$18) one-way with Interrail pass;

    Helsinki to St. Petersburg

This seriously swift route cuts through evergreen forests with views across arctic lakes in the summer.

This snappy route used to take five and a half hours on creaking Soviet-era carriages before new Allegro high-speed trains slashed journey times by two hours in 2010.

There’s a proper restaurant car for indulging that “high roller traveling through eastern Europe” vibe, while the service is as good as you’ll find on any train on the continent.

Currently there are four trains a day, with plans to get the overall ride down to just three hours total in the next few years.

    From €144 (US$194) round-trip;

    Gartner: Top 10 cloud storage providers #top #cloud #computing #providers

Gartner: Top 10 cloud storage providers

According to a Gartner survey. about 19% of organizations are using the cloud for production computing, while 20% are using public cloud storage services.

That means there’s a pretty good sized market for the cloud, and specifically cloud storage. Gartner predicted in 2012 $109 billion was spent on cloud computing. a 20% increase from the year before.

But the cloud is a big industry too, with a lot of vendors seemingly having a cloud strategy today. So where do potential customers start? Recently, Gartner released a list of the top 10 cloud storage providers, based on enterprise capabilities. Below is a description of each, based on pros, cons, strengths and weaknesses.

    Amazon Web Services

Like many other aspects of cloud computing, Amazon Web Services is considered a market leader in cloud storage. It’s been an early and aggressive player in the market and its services drive offerings from competitors, Gartner says, while its pricing is the “industry reference point.” Its Simple Storage Service (S3) is the basic object storage, while Elastic Block Storage is for storage volumes. AWS keeps innovating too. Earlier this year AWS announced Glacier, a long-term, low-cost archival storage services. More recently, at its first-ever user conference, AWS announced Redshift, a cloud-based data warehousing service.

AWS has challenges though, Gartner notes. While it has a tool to link on-premise data to its cloud, named AWS Storage Gateway, the ability to create hybrid storage architectures that span both on-premise storage options and AWS’s cloud is still largely a work in progress, Gartner says. AWS is an innovative company that continues to release products and services to round out its already-market leading position though. With services geared to specific vertical industries, most notably the federal government agencies with its GovCloud service, it has a wide breadth and depth of cloud storage features and services.

AT T’s Synaptic cloud storage service is aligned closely with EMC’s Atmos storage service, which is used as an on-premise storage system. This creates an opportunity for AT T to sell into the strong EMC customer base, and gives customers hybrid cloud capabilities with a leading storage vendor. Gartner says this has been focused mostly on small and midsized businesses though. Still, AT T claims it has recorded double-digit growth in its service, with several billion objects stored in its cloud. AT T Synaptic already spans multiple regions, which customers can choose to take advantage of, with plans by AT T to expand the service globally, with Europe being the next stop. Customers using AT T’s VPN service are freed from ingress and egress charges when using the company’s cloud service.

    Google Cloud Storage

Launched in 2010, Google Cloud Storage is the underlying storage service for the company’s other cloud products and services, including Google App Engine – the application development platform – Google Compute Engine, and BigQuery, which are cloud-based virtual machines and a big data analysis tool, respectively. Customers access Google Cloud Storage through a restful API and the service is available in both the U.S. and Europe. Holding the company and its cloud storage platform back though is a relative lack of significant sales and support targeted at enterprise customers, Gartner notes. That leaves Google Cloud Storage ideally suited for sophisticated customers willing to set up and manage the deployment, and specifically developers looking for large storage capacity for Google applications.

HP announced the public beta of its cloud storage platform debuted in May of 2012 and it’s meant to work in tandem with both its compute and content delivery network (CDN), which it recently partnered with Akamai on. The storage platform is based on OpenStack technology and HP offers free 24/7 call and chat support on top of 99.95% availability guarantees. “Among OpenStack-based cloud storage providers, HP is well-positioned to understand enterprise IT storage requirements, due to its extensive hardware, software and service offerings,” Gartner notes. “However, since HP Cloud Object Storage is new, HP must evolve and refine its architectural, geographical and service offerings.” The system automatically replicates data across three availability zones for resiliency (which customers can choose to do in Amazon’s cloud), and HP says having information running on its hardware both in the public cloud and on customers’ premises makes for easy hybrid cloud setups.

IBM’s cloud storage is part of its SmartCloud Enterprise offering, which includes other services such as cloud-based application development and infrastructure. Gartner says the biggest deficiency is the lack of integration among the various aspects of IBM’s SmartCloud offering though. For example, IBM markets its cloud for backup and recovery, but those services do not use IBM SmartCloud Object Storage on its backend. Part of this could be because IBM partners with Nirvanix, another cloud storage provider, to run the SamrtCloud Object Storage. The disparate nature of these services under the IBM SmartCloud umbrella could create “silos of capabilities” for various services, Gartner warns. But, IBM has committed to more tightly integrating its products and services together. Its experience in selling to major IT enterprise shops gives it a significant advantage in becoming a major player in the large enterprise cloud storage market.

Internap’s history is as a managed service and collocation provider, but it has more recently emerged as a cloud player as well. Its AgileFiles cloud storage system is based off of the OpenStack Swift storage platform and is available in the U.S. Europe and Asia, with plans for future expansion. To differentiate its service, Internap has attempted to layer on advanced networking features to the service, such as a Manager Internet Route Optimizer (MIRO), which analyzes the performance of the possible routes to deliver content and chooses the best one. Gartner says its lack of enterprise presence is the biggest limitation holding the company back.

Behind Amazon Web Services, Microsoft’s Windows Azure Blob Storage may be the second most widely-used cloud storage service, Gartner predicts. It now boasts more than a trillion objects and is growing at 200% per year, Gartner says, while supporting a broad range of features including object storage, table storage, SQL Server and a content delivery network (CDN). Azure’s Blob storage is in a pricing “race to the bottom,” with Amazon, Google and Microsoft each dropping prices consistently during the past year to offer the most competitive prices among the three competitors. Gartner calls Microsoft a “fast-follower” of feature roll outs behind Amazon as well. Its tiered support options are appealing to large enterprise customers, Gartner says, providing customers a hands-on fee-based support team. Microsoft has bulked up its storage chops too by recently purchasing cloud storage gateway vendor StorSimple.

A pure-play cloud storage provider, Nirvanix is solely dedicated to this market. Gartner says that’s great for companies looking for data-intensive storage needs, but could be a drawback for customers looking for an all-inclusive vendor that would provide compute services on top of a storage platform. Nirvanix has some appealing characteristics though, including the ability to have public, hybrid or on-premise Nirvanix-powered storage services, and an all-inclusive monthly billing cycle with premium support options, a clear aim for enterprise customers, but one that may turn away small and midsized businesses that may prefer the a la carte pricing.

Rackspace is another major player in the cloud storage ecosystem, with its Cloud Files service augmented by a robust set of accompanying services, including compute infrastructure and a CDN network powered by Akamai. For high-performance storage needs, it has Cloud Block Storage, which has high input-output capabilities. Rackspace works heavily on the OpenStack open source project and its services closely follow OpenStack developments. Because of its work in the OpenStack environment, Gartner says Rackspace public cloud storage services integrate nicely with OpenStack-powered on premise clouds, creating hybrid cloud services for customers.

Softlayer’s Cloudlayer object storage system is based on the OpenStack Swift platform that accompanies a range of other services offered by Softlayer, including compute and CDN. Softlayer also has a storage-area network (SAN) offering and an international presence, with data center locations in its headquarters of Dallas, along with Amsterdam and Singapore. Its lack of support and turnkey deployment cycles, Gartner says, has meant that the product has not caught on wildly with the enterprise market yet though.

Cavs – Tristan Thompson Bullies Celtics, Dominates Glass In Game 1

The Boston Celtics have struggled on the glass throughout the 2017 NBA playoffs. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers was no different.

The Cavs had their way with the C s on the boards, which helped the road team pick up a 117-104 victory Wednesday night at TD Garden.

Cleveland s interior domination was due in large part to Tristan Thompson. The Cavaliers forward posted 20 points to go along with nine rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end.

Thompson s success on the boards provided Cleveland with a helping of second-chance opportunities, which contributed to its offensive outburst in Game 1. And while Thompson is a tremendous rebounder, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue believes the forward brings so much more to the table.

Tristan was big, Lue said. He s our energy, he s our motor. Defensively he was great, but the six offensive rebounds he had were huge for us. And then finishing around the basket. His toughness and will are just big for us. His physicality is huge, especially against this team.

Thompson s tenacity has been his calling card since his arrival in the NBA. At 6-foot-9, he s usually smaller than the players he s going up against in the paint. But what he lacks in size, he makes up for with exceptional effort and positioning.

Celtics guard Avery Bradley understands how Thompson can affect a game and knows Boston must do a much better job of limiting him as the series progresses.

In the playoffs, you re supposed to try to take away what guys do, Bradley said. That s what they re doing to us and that s what we need to do to him (Thompson). We need to put a body on him and team rebound. We have to do a better job at it.

Boston did show flashes of the team rebounding Bradley referenced. Rookie Jaylen Brown impressed with nine boards. while Al Horford and Jae Crowder each contributed eight. The Cavaliers are a bigger team than the Celtics, but as seen in Thompson s case, effort and physicality goes a long way.

If the Celtics can t remedy their rebounding woes in the coming games, the series won t go on for very long. The C s can ill afford to allow second-chance opportunities, especially against an offensive juggernaut like the Cavs.

    Featured Research

We used the official Bureau of Labor Statistics National Compensation Survey to estimate lifetime salaries for each of several hundred jobs and occupations. Since the primary purpose of the exercise was comparisons between degrees rather than exact predictions for individuals, we used a simplified model of career progression, in which holders of all jobs start near the lower end of the salary distribution for their occupation and receive raises in a steady fashion over the course of their working career. To reduce this salary curve to a single number, we used a net present value calculation with an assumed discount rate of 5%.

Top 10 Autoresponders and Email Marketing Tools, top ten email marketing.#Top

Top 10 Autoresponders and Email Marketing Tools

One of the first questions new (and even experienced) marketers often ask is: “What’s the best autoresponder service or email marketing tool?” Autoresponders and email marketing tools are some of the most important parts of your business. You use it to follow-up with customers. To keep people coming back to your site. To build loyalty. To make sales. Yet the answer is often not so clear cut. Do you want the highest deliverability possible? Do you want to import offline contacts? Do you want to integrate your list management with a shopping cart? Do you want to spend $20 a month or $500 a month? The answer to these questions all yield very different answers. Here are the top 10 autoresponder tools on the market, along with who they’re for and what they’re capable of.

    Tool #1: Aweber

    Top ten email marketing

If you’re managing a list in the hundreds, thousands or low tens of thousands and you only collect leads through the internet, then there’s no better service than Aweber. Aweber doesn’t really allow you to add leads from offline sources. However, for online lists, Aweber sports the best deliverability ratings on the market. If you’re primarily using online opt-in forms, use Aweber. Your emails will get delivered, opened and clicked on.

    Tool #2: MailChimp

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

MailChimp is a fantastic place for beginning marketers to get started. Their “forever free” plan allows you to create a list on MailChimp for free as long as your list is under 500 users. When you’re just starting out, that’s more than enough. If you don’t want to start paying for autoresponders yet, go ahead and give MailChimp a shot, it is a great first step as an email marketing tool.

    Tool #3: iContact

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

iContact is a great choice for small to medium sized marketers who do want to import outside lists. iContact allows you to add people to your list manually or through import.

    Tool #4: Constant Contact

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

If you’re a fan of HTML or graphical emails, Constant Contact can be great choice as an email marketing tool. Again, they’re geared primarily for marketers who have lists in the hundreds, thousands or low to mid tens of thousands.

    Tool #5: InfusionSoft

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

InfusionSoft is the tool of choice for serious marketers. If you run a six figure online business or have a list larger 50,000 subscribers, this may be the tool for you. InfusionSoft combines your shopping cart with email marketing, so you can do complex things like segregate your buyers from your subscribers or mail specific sequences to specific people. You can also send physical postcards from InfusionSoft. InfusionSoft isn’t cheap. The monthly subscription is in the hundreds, and there’s a four figure setup fee. It’s geared towards companies that are already successful and need powerful solutions, rather than startups.

    Tool #6: GetResponse

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

GetResponse is a solid autoresponder choice for small businesses. It’s also geared primarily towards list sizes of mid tens of thousands or fewer. They have a strong reputation in the industry and offer a wide variety of features.

    Tool #7: 1ShoppingCart

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

If you want to integrate your email with your shopping cart but don’t quite want to spring for InfusionSoft, 1ShoppingCart could be your answer. 1ShoppingCart is a one stop solution for payment processing and email marketing. It allows you to segregate lists and mail only buyers or your entire list. It’s one of the more reputable shopping cart services on the net.

Be warned however, their deliverability rates simply aren’t as high as a dedicated email marketing service. You save time and money by just having one shopping cart rather than a shopping cart and an autoresponder, but it’s not without tradeoffs.

Tool #8: Autoresponse Plus (ARP Reach)

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

Autoresponse Plus, also known as ARP Reach, is the autoresponder of choice for doing co-registration. You can certainly use the software to do standard email marketing as well. However, if you’re buying leads and need those fresh leads to be mailed instantly, Autoresponse Plus has one of the most solid reputations in the industry.

    Tool #9: Campaign Monitor

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

Campaign Monitor is email marketing built for the data driven business. All your data, including open rates and clicks, can be tracked using a Google Analytics-like interface.

If you want to split test emails or carefully track what topics do better than others, give Campaign Monitor a spin.

    Tool #10: Office AutoPilot

Office Autopilot is a tool that adds a layer of sophistication to the standard autoresponder service. You can almost “program” Office Autopilot to do various different tasks with their if-then rules.

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

Essentially, you can tell Office Autopilot what to do if certain things occur. For example, if a customer places an order, you can send an order to your fulfillment house to fulfill that order. Or if a customer leaves, you can send them a last minute special offer. Just select the trigger for the action, then select what list it applies to then select what to do when that action is trigger.

    Top ten email marketing

    Top ten email marketing

Office Autopilot plans all start at above $200 a month. These are the top 10 autoresponder and email marketing tools on the market today. You have options all the way from free to several hundred dollars a month, from basic functionality to complex analytics and shopping cart integration. The one you pick depends entirely on where your business is and what it needs.

    Bonus Tool:

This is our preferred tool. Not only an email marketing tool, but a sales customer relationship manager. A simple CRMsoftware for managing the important relationships in your small business. With the easy-to-use toolset, you ll be amazed at how relationships seem to grow automatically.
