Acute and Chronic Cough Causes, Symptoms & Home Remedies #passages #treatment

Cough Facts

  • A cough is an action the body takes to get rid of substances that are irritating to the air passages, which carry the air a person breathes in from the nose and mouth to the lungs .
  • A cough occurs when cells along the air passages get irritated and trigger a chain of events.
  • The result is air in the lungs is forced out under high pressure.
  • A person can choose to cough (a voluntary process), or the body may cough on its own (an involuntary process).

What Makes You Cough?

Acute coughs can be divided into infectious (caused by an infection) and noninfectious causes.

The easiest way to simplify the causes of chronic cough is to divide them into their locations with respect to the lungs. The categories are environmental irritants, conditions within the lungs, conditions along the passages that transmit air from the lungs to the environment, conditions within the chest cavity but outside of the lungs, and digestive causes.

What Causes a Cough?

Patient Comment Read 1 Comment Share Your Story

  • Any environmental substance that irritates the air passages or the lungs is capable of producing a chronic cough with continued exposure. Cigarette smoke is the most common cause of chronic cough. Other cough-producing irritants include dusts, pollens, pet dander, particulate matter, industrial chemicals and pollution, cigar and pipe smoke, and low environmental humidity.
  • Within the lungs both common and uncommon conditions cause chronic cough. Common causes include asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Less common causes of lung-induced chronic cough include cancer, sarcoidosis, diseases of the lung tissue, and congestive heart failure with chronic fluid build-up in the lungs.
  • The passages that connect the lungs to the external environment are known as the upper respiratory tract. Chronic sinus infections, chronic postnasal drip, diseases of the external ear, infections of the throat, and use of ACE inhibitor medications for high blood pressure have all been implicated in chronic cough.
  • In addition to disease processes within the lung and air passages, diseases elsewhere within the chest cavity may also be responsible for chronic cough. Conditions within the chest known to cause chronic cough include cancer, unusual growth of a lymph node, and an abnormal enlargement of the aorta, the main blood vessel leaving the heart.
  • An often-overlooked cause of the chronic cough is gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). GERD occurs when acid from the stomach travels up the esophagus. This abnormal condition can cause irritation of the esophagus and larynx resulting in the reflex production of a cough.

Vertigo Treatment – Vertigo #vertigo #drug #treatment

Vertigo Treatment

Treatment for Vertigo

Treatment for vertigo, or dizziness, depends on identifying and eliminating the underlying cause. If a particular medication is responsible for the condition, lowering the dosage or discontinuing the drug may eliminate vertigo.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy to Treat Vertigo

Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is a type of physical therapy used to treat vertigo. The goal of treatment is to minimize dizziness, improve balance and prevent falls by restoring normal function of the vestibular system.

In VRT, the patient performs exercises designed to allow the brain to adapt to and compensate for whatever is causing the vertigo. The success of this treatment depends on several factors including the following:

  • Age of the patient
  • Cognitive function (e.g. memory, ability to follow directions in order)
  • Coordination and motor skills
  • Overall health of the patient (including the central nervous system)
  • Physical strength

Vestibular rehabilitation therapy is designed by a physical therapist under the direction of a physician. In most cases, patients visit the therapist on a limited basis and perform custom-designed exercises at home, several times a day. As the patient progresses, difficulty of the exercises increases until the highest level of balance is attained during head movement, eye movement (i.e. tracking with the eyes) and walking.

According to the American Academy of Neurology, the most effective treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) caused by ear crystals in the posterior semicircular canal, is a technique called the canalith repositioning procedure. or the Epley maneuver .

In this procedure, a physician or physical therapist assists the patient in performing a series of head and body movements, which move the calcium crystals out from the posterior semicircular canal and into another inner ear canal, where it is absorbed by the body. Another technique (called the Semont maneuver) also may be effective, but additional studies are needed.

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) #ovarian #hyperstimulation #syndrome #treatment

About Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)

OHSS overview

  • OHSS can occur when the ovaries are over stimulated with fertility medication used in IVF or other fertility treatments.
  • Typically, OHSS symptoms are minor, with mild to moderate pain, loss of appetite and feeling bloated.
  • Careful monitoring, decreased activity, pain medicine and drinking lots of water are recommended for patients diagnosed with OHSS.
  • In infrequent cases where OHSS does not improve with outpatient care, treatment may involve occasional hospitalization for intravenous fluid hydration or, in rare circumstances, inserting a needle in the abdomen to remove excess fluid.

What is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome?

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) can occur when the ovaries are over stimulated by fertility medications and hormones. Too many stimulant hormones in a woman s system can lead to OHSS, characterized by swollen, painful ovaries.

OHSS may occur from the injectable hormone medications used during in vitro fertilization (IVF). Fertility medications used in IVF stimulate a woman’s ovaries to produce more oocytes (eggs) than during normal ovulation (often 12-15 eggs, compared to the normal one). How much medication is needed to achieve the correct stimulation requires careful monitoring and is not an exact process.

Less often, OHSS can occur from milder fertility medications taken by mouth, such as clomiphene, or occurs spontaneously.

Causes of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

The cause of OHSS isn’t fully understood. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone produced during pregnancy and a high level of this hormone may play a role in ovarian hyperstimulation. HCG makes the blood vessels in the ovaries react abnormally and leak fluid. This fluid causes the ovaries to swell.

Fertility treatments sometimes use HCG as a “trigger” to make a mature follicle release its egg. OHSS happens within a week after a patient receives this trigger injection and undergoes egg retrieval.

Symptoms of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

Typically, OHSS symptoms are minor, with mild to moderate pain, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea and feeling bloated.

In rare cases, worse symptoms can include severe abdominal pain, severe nausea or vomiting, decreased urination, dark-colored urine, shortness of breath, low blood pressure and excessive weight gain.

Approximately 10 percent of patients undergoing IVF have mild OHSS, and less than 1 percent of patients need to be admitted to the hospital for severe symptoms.

Symptoms usually appear four to five days after a woman’s eggs are collected in the IVF retrieval process. However, symptoms usually resolve spontaneously with the onset of the next period or shortly thereafter.

If a patient is pregnant when OHSS hits, the symptoms may worsen and last approximately two to three weeks.

Treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

If after receiving a hormone injection you develop any of the symptoms described above, you should notify our center immediately.

Careful monitoring, decreased stimulation medication, taking pain medicine and drinking lots of fluids are recommended. There is also some increased risk of developing a blood clot if you have OHSS, so your doctor may recommend taking a baby aspirin.

Although very uncommon, severe OHSS symptoms can be treated through hospitalization for intravenous fluid hydration or, in rare circumstances, inserting a needle in the abdomen to remove excess fluid.

Since symptoms are usually resolved within two weeks, if you do not achieve pregnancy through fertility treatment, the doctor may advise that all embryos be frozen so they can be transferred after recovery.

If severe OHSS occurs after conceiving, it can last up to the tenth week of pregnancy and then resolve.

Sample Of An Alcohol Treatment Plan – article about Sample Of An Alcohol Treatment Plan

Refresh Articles Addictions Sample Of An Alcohol Treatment Plan

The Sample of an Alcohol Treatment Plan

Combating against alcohol addiction can be a real hardship both for you and for your loved ones. Many treatment centers facilitate service for providing relief from the sprains caused by long years of alcohol abuse. The components of the sample of an alcohol treatment plan can be designed precisely by putting emphasis over each individual and their unique needs.

While designing the sample of an alcohol treatment plan, the planner first focuses on ‘initial intervention’ phase. In fact, this is the most essential component of an alcohol treatment plan sample. Without the initial intervention made by a professional interventionist, the treatment can not be progressed further.

It is the responsibility of the interventionist to offer motivation and inspiration to the individuals who are in need for alcohol related treatment. The interventionist can organize and institute the intervention in both effective and motivational fashion. An effective intervention leads to immediate detoxification and rehabilitation.

The next item that comes on line of a well-structured sample of an alcohol treatment plan is alcohol detoxification. The first step of detoxification is of course abstinence followed by an effective elimination of harmful physical and emotional effects of alcohol usage while managing painful and treacherous withdrawal symptoms.

When considering the detoxification phase, a residential treatment always overshadows non residential one in terms of appropriate management pains and critical side effects of withdrawal. The side effects, in some cases, can be so intense that it may lead to mortality. So, an effective sample plan of an alcohol treatment procedure must be prepared by taking these points under consideration.

The alcoholic denial is critically intense. So it is essential to understand the denial. Working effectively with alcoholic denial should be an integral component of the sample plan of an alcohol treatment. At this phase, when the body is free from the harmful effects of the alcohol, the patient should be exposed to understand the complexities of his problem.

In addition, the sample of an alcohol treatment plan should be designed in such a fashion that the treatment will provide the patient the essential space to reflect over his problem from his own perspective. Moreover, a successful plan must incorporate relapse prevention methodologies and enhanced recovery skills training program.

Usually, the ideal treatment plan should accommodate individual counseling and therapy, group therapy, family session, 12-Step meetings, recreational therapy, occupational therapy and many others. The success of the sample of an alcohol treatment plan also depends on sensible execution, expertise, knowledge and effective communication. Novel Osteoporosis Drug Could Change Treatment: Study #osteoporosis #drug #treatment

THURSDAY, Jan. 2, 2014 (HealthDay News) — A new medication for osteoporosis prompts the body to rebuild bone and could potentially strengthen the skeleton against fractures, researchers report.

The experimental drug, romosozumab, frees the body’s ability to stimulate bone production by blocking biochemical signals that naturally inhibit bone formation, explained Dr. Michael McClung, founding director of the Oregon Osteoporosis Center in Portland, Ore.

The treatment is one-and-a-half to three times more effective than current osteoporosis drugs in rebuilding bone density at the lumbar spine, according to clinical trial results McClung and his colleagues reported in the Jan.1 online edition of the New England Journal of Medicine .

“Most osteoporosis drugs work by stopping the progression of bone loss, but they don’t have the capability of rebuilding the skeleton,” McClung said. “This really is a new day in the consideration of how we treat osteoporosis, with the capability of truly stimulating bone production and rebuilding the skeleton, not simply keeping it from getting worse.”

More research is needed, however, before romosozumab is approved to treat osteoporosis, a serious bone-thinning disease, in the United States.

The new drug uses an antibody to block the function of sclerostin, a protein the body produces to naturally inhibit bone growth.

Without sclerostin, overactive bone growth might clamp off nerves or end up fusing the spinal column, said Dr. Robert Recker, president of the National Osteoporosis Foundation and director of the Osteoporosis Research Center at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

But sclerostin also prevents people with osteoporosis from building additional bone density to replace the bone that has been lost.

The antibody romosozumab binds to sclerostin and prevents its signal, which allows pro-bone-growth signals to proceed uninterrupted, the researchers explained.

This phase 2 clinical trial involved more than 400 postmenopausal women aged 55 to 85 who had osteopenia. which is low bone mass that is not low enough to be classified as osteoporosis. They were randomly assigned to receive one of four treatments for a year: romosozumab; a placebo; or one of two current osteoporosis medications.

Results showed that romosozumab increased bone mineral density in the spine by 11.3 percent during the study period, compared with a 7.1 percent increase with teriparatide (Forteo ), a current osteoporosis treatment. The new drug also performed much better than alendronate (Fosamax ), a bisphosphonate medication that increased spinal bone density by 4.1 percent.

“In terms of rebuilding bone mass, this is clearly better than Forteo or the bisphosphonates,” said Recker, who was not involved with the study.

The new drug also appears to be safe, with no major side effects reported, McClung said.

Recker expects that the antibody medication will prove safe because the bone-building signals that are left uninhibited by the drug will taper off naturally as the skeleton becomes better able to withstand weight loads and stresses. “I think it’s going to be self-regulating,” he said.

The drug is still several years from coming to market, McClung noted. Researchers have to prove to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it actually protects against bone fractures, which will require more research.

But onlookers are enthusiastic regarding the potential of romosozumab.

“This possibly represents the most important change in treatment of osteoporosis that we’ve seen,” Recker pointed out. “We’ve not been able to have a strongly bone-building product available to us. There’s no reason not to believe it will prevent fractures, but that has to be proven.”

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, half of all Americans over age 50 are expected to have low bone density or osteoporosis by 2020.

Long-term Residential Drug Rehab Treatment In North Carolina

Financing is a huge concern that many addicts, and the families of addicts, have when it comes to entering a drug rehabilitation program. In some cases, the addict’s insurance plan might pay to the person stays in the rehabilitation center, but not always. Even more alarming than the number of addicts who do not have adequate insurance to cover the cost of their treatment is the number of addicts who do not have insurance or any other means of paying for the treatment.

No one in North Carolina wants to see an addict go untreated because they could not even afford a short term residential drug treatment center. In many cases, the government will step in and help out with funding. The addict simply has to make sure that they are going to be enrolled in a program that is either income based or, which allows you to use Medicare to finance your stay.

In most cases, a stint at a short term residential drug rehabilitation program is not sufficient for an individual to kick their drug addiction. When they are preparing to leave the residential facility, addicts are strongly encouraged to not only become involved in an intense outpatient program, but also in a support group such as Narcotics Anonymous. When it comes to a drug addiction, the sooner an individual gets enrolled in a treatment program, the better their chances are of being able to move past their addiction.

90-Day Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers in North Carolina

Currently in the state of North Carolina, there are just over 40 different drug and alcohol treatment centers and facilities that do provide a residential 90-day treatment program. Narcotic Abuse: Narcotics Anonymous and Types #treatment #for #narcotics

    What is Narcotic Abuse?

    • Pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical treatment. Doctors can prescribe different types of medications to relieve pain. The most potent pain-relieving medications are narcotics (opiates or opioids).
    • In the United States, narcotics are widely prescribed to treat painful conditions. Narcotics are often prescribed in conjunction with other less potent drugs (such as nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medications) or as a pill that has a combination of a narcotic with either acetaminophen (for example, Tylenol ) or aspirin .
    • Acetaminophen is also commonly found in many different products that are available as over-the-counter (OTC) medications. With the public often using OTC products that contain acetaminophen as well as prescription narcotics that might also have acetaminophen, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has become concerned about dangerous interactions from combining these medications.
    • There is not just the potential for narcotic abuse but the concern that patients are accidentally ingesting too much acetaminophen from combining these products with the potential for severe liver damage or even death.
    • The use of prescription pain relievers without a doctor s prescription only for the experience or the feeling it causes is often called nonmedical use. Narcotic use is considered abuse when people use narcotics to seek feelings of well-being apart from the narcotic s pain-relief applications.
    • The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) report that after marijuana, nonmedical use of painkillers is the second most common form of illicit drug use in the United States. An estimated 8.9 million people aged 12 and older (3.4 percent) were current users of illicit drugs other than marijuana in 2012. The majority of these users (6.8 million people, or 2.6 percent of the population) were non-medical users of psychotherapeutic drugs, including 4.9 million users of pain relievers.
      • SAMHSA s Drug Abuse Warning Network reported that approximately 597,000 emergency department visits in 2012 involved the nonmedical use of alcohol or other illicit drugs, including painrelievers
      • Morphine (Avinza. Kadian. Morphine IR. MS Contin. MSIR. Oramorph SR. Roxanol ) and codeine are natural derivatives of the opium poppy. Related medications that are semisynthetic include drugs such as heroin. oxycodone (Percocet, Percodan. OxyContin ), and hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Vicodin ). Synthetic medications in this class include drugs such as methadone (Diskets. Dolophine. Methadose ), meperidine (Demerol), and fentanyl. All medications in this group are called opiates or narcotics. Some chemicals, called endorphins, occur naturally in the body and produce a morphine-like effect.
    • The most commonly abused illicit narcotic is heroin, but all prescription narcotics have the potential for abuse. In 2008, the Florida Medical Examiners Commission noted that prescription opioid painkillers (such as Vicodin, Percocet, and OxyContin) caused more deaths than illicit substances such as heroin.
    • Narcotics have many useful pain-relieving applications in medicine. They are used not only to relieve pain for people with chronic diseases such as cancer but also to relieve acute pain after operations. Doctors may also prescribe narcotics for painful acute conditions, such as corneal abrasions, kidney stones. and broken bones.
    • When people use narcotics exclusively to control pain, it is unlikely that they become addicted or dependent on them. A patient is given a dosage of opioids strong enough to reduce their awareness of pain but not normally potent enough to produce a euphoric state.
    • Adequate pain control is the goal for the medical use of narcotics. Thus, patients or health-care professionals should not allow fear of addiction to interfere with using narcotics for effective pain relief.

The impact of drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t just affect the individuals suffering with addiction and dependency, it affects the whole community. Drugs like marijuana, methamphetamines, heroin, and cocaine are smuggled into California from Mexico which adds to the drug situation throughout California. Drug education and prevention is crucial concerning the risks, dangers and crime associated with drug trafficking, drug abuse and prescription drug misuse.

    California Cocaine Addiction

The availability of cocaine is high throughout the state of California. There are other areas of California where cocaine is easily found; in San Francisco and certain areas of northern California cocaine is also easily obtained. Los Angeles is one of the nation’s biggest cocaine transshipment and distribution centers.

Cocaine is a very powerful illegal stimulant that causes serious health problems when used. Another form of cocaine that’s highly abused is crack cocaine. Crack cocaine is processed from cocaine for the purpose of inhaling the toxic vapors when smoking it. This form of cocaine is also referred to as rock crystal. When the rock crystal is heated it makes a crackle sound which is where it gets its name from.

Cocaine is abused by many people because it creates an intense feeling of euphoria when used as well as increased energy and the user feels sharp and alert. Smoking crack cocaine is preferred by many users but because of the short lived high, use needs to be repeated. Unfortunately cocaine is highly addictive and causes very serious health problems when used.

    California Heroin Addiction

Heroin is a problem because this drug is widely available with high purity levels. Because it’s so pure young people especially new users snort heroin and according to specialists they ingest high amounts and become addicted much faster. Heroin is an opiate that’s made from morphine. Users inject heroin, snort it, or smoke it for the purpose of getting high. Individuals that use heroin can form tolerance to this drug easily and in a short period of time need to increase the amount they use in order to experience the same effects. Heroin addiction is very widespread throughout California and the United States and comes with serious health risks.

    California Marijuana Addiction

In California as well as most states, marijuana is the most available and abused illegal drug by people of all ages. Marijuana is smuggled in from Mexico in vast low grade quantities. The high grade marijuana which is much more potent is smuggled into California from Canada. The Canadian potent marijuana is referred to as BC bud. Throughout California potent marijuana is produced in domestic indoor hydroponic gardens as well.

Most marijuana users prefer to smoke it by rolling it into a ‘joint’ or ‘nail’ or smoking it through a pipe although there are people who smoke marijuana through a water pipe called a ‘bong’. It’s not uncommon for some marijuana users to mix it in different foods, drinks or brew it similar to tea.

    California Methamphetamine Addiction

Meth is the biggest drug threat in California. The production and distribution of high quality methamphetamines in California is controlled by Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations. There is another secondary drug trafficking group that is responsible for some of the meth production and distribution which consists of Caucasians for the most part. This secondary group operates much less sophisticated small labs.

Clandestine meth labs are usually found in less populated rural areas, remote desert locations and forested areas in northern California. The amount of seized meth labs in California has decreased but there has been an increase in meth labs south of the border in Mexico.

Meth is an addictive central nervous system stimulant that’s structured in a similar way to amphetamines. Methamphetamines are abused for the purpose of getting high by many people and as a result, many people have formed dependency and are in need of treatment. In order to experience the intense high meth produces, the individual either smokes, snorts, or injects it. There are many serious health problems associated with methamphetamine abuse .

    California Club Drugs

The use of Ecstasy (MDMA) is showing signs of decrease in use throughout California; ecstasy was once viewed as the most popular club drug among teens and young adults. It’s still consistently available in certain areas though. The decrease is partially due to law enforcement cracking down on the individuals that promote raves in the county area of San Diego and putting a stop to these all night parties. Part of the selling and distribution of ecstasy took place during raves which made a big difference once they were unable to hold their events.

California Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse

The misuse of prescription drugs is increasing throughout California for non-medical reasons and is a definite cause for concern. Unfortunately the misuse of prescription drugs comes with many serious health risks and medical problems. When prescription drugs are taken in high doses as well as repeated misuse, tolerance and dependency are inevitable.

Prescription pain killers, CNS depressants used to treat anxiety and sleep disorders, and stimulants for the treatment of ADHD are commonly abused not only in California but throughout the nation. Many young people and young adults misuse prescription drugs for the purpose of getting high and have developed dependency to them. Health risks and dangers associated with prescription drug abuse are very serious and sometimes life threatening.

    California Binge Drinking Alcoholism

Around 5.8 million adults in California are binge drinkers; this is about 21 percent of all adults. The definition of binge drinking would be 5 or more drinks for men and 4 or more drinks for women taking place on the same occasion at least once during the past month. There are over 2.2 million Californians who meet the criteria for alcohol dependence or abuse .

Combining illegal drugs, prescription drugs or over the counter medications is extremely dangerous and isn’t taken serious enough. Sometimes mixing alcohol and other substances is done unintentionally, older adults sometimes without thinking combine alcohol with acetaminophen (Tylenol) and this comes with serious health risks. If a person has more than 3 drinks a day and mixes them with acetaminophen they risk liver damage.

Mixing antidepressants with alcohol is very serious because it causes depression to become worse. Antidepressants like Wellbutrin, Elavil, and Prozac should never be combined with any alcoholic beverage no matter what it is. It’s very important not to mix sedatives like Valium with alcohol, this combination can be lethal.

Alcohol Withdrawal: Symptoms, Treatments, Duration, and More #alcohol #withdrawal, #alcohol #withdrawal

    Alcohol Withdrawal

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition that can occur in people who have been drinking heavily for weeks, months, or years and then either stop or significantly reduce their alcohol consumption.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can begin as early as two hours after the last drink, persist for weeks, and range from mild anxiety and shakiness to severe complications, such as seizures and delirium tremens (also called DTs). The death rate from DTs — which are characterized by confusion, rapid heartbeat, and fever — is estimated to range from 1% to 5%.

Because alcohol withdrawal symptoms can rapidly worsen, it’s important to seek medical attention even if symptoms are seemingly mild. Appropriate alcohol withdrawal treatments can reduce the risk of developing withdrawal seizures or DTs.

It’s especially important to see a doctor if you’ve experienced previous alcohol withdrawal episodes or if you have other health conditions such as infections, heart disease. lung disease. or a history of seizures.

Severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms are a medical emergency. If seizures, fever, severe confusion, hallucinations. or irregular heartbeats occur, either take the patient to an emergency room or call 911.

    Causes of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

Heavy, prolonged drinking — especially excessive daily drinking — disrupts the brain ‘s neurotransmitters, the brain chemicals that transmit messages.

For example, alcohol initially enhances the effect of GABA, the neurotransmitter which produces feelings of relaxation and calm. But chronic alcohol consumption eventually suppresses GABA activity so that more and more alcohol is required to produce the desired effects, a phenomenon known as tolerance.

Chronic alcohol consumption also suppresses the activity of glutamate, the neurotransmitter which produces feelings of excitability. To maintain equilibrium, the glutamate system responds by functioning at a far higher level than it does in moderate drinkers and nondrinkers.

When heavy drinkers suddenly stop or significantly reduce their alcohol consumption, the neurotransmitters previously suppressed by alcohol are no longer suppressed. They rebound, resulting in a phenomenon known as brain hyperexcitability. So, the effects associated with alcohol withdrawal — anxiety. irritability, agitation, tremors, seizures, and DTs — are the opposite of those associated with alcohol consumption.

    Symptoms of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

In general, how severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms become depends on how much and for how long a person has been drinking.

Minor alcohol withdrawal symptoms often appear 6 to 12 hours after a person stops drinking. Sometimes a person will still have a measurable blood alcohol level when symptoms start. These symptoms include:

Between 12 and 24 hours after they stop drinking, some patients may experience visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations. These usually end within 48 hours. Although this condition is called alcoholic hallucinosis, it’s not the same as the hallucinations associated with DTs. Most patients are aware that the unusual sensations aren’t real.

Withdrawal seizures usually first strike between 24 and 48 hours after someone stops drinking, although they can appear as early as 2 hours after drinking stops. The risk of seizures is especially high in patients who previously have undergone multiple detoxifications.

DTs usually begin between 48 and 72 hours after drinking has stopped, Risk factors for DTs include a history of withdrawal seizures or DTs, acute medical illness, abnormal liver function, and older age.

Symptoms of DTs, which usually peak at 5 days, include:

    • Disorientation, confusion, and severe anxiety
    • Hallucinations (primarily visual) which cannot be distinguished from reality
    • Profuse sweating
    • Seizures
    • High blood pressure
    • Racing and irregular heartbeat
    • Severe tremors
    • Low-grade fever

    Assessment of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

If alcohol withdrawal syndrome is suspected, your doctor will take a complete medical history and ask how much you drink, how long you’ve been drinking, and how much time has elapsed since your last drink. He or she also will want to know if you have a history of alcohol withdrawal, if you abuse any other substances, and if you have any medical or psychiatric conditions.

During a physical exam. your doctor will identify alcohol withdrawal symptoms and any potential complicating medical conditions such as irregular heartbeats, congestive heart failure. coronary artery disease. gastrointestinal bleeding, infections, liver disease, nervous system impairment, and pancreatitis. He or she also may order blood tests to measure complete blood count. alcohol and electrolyte levels, liver function. and a urine screen to identify drug use.

The results of the medical history and physical exam will help your doctor decide if you have alcohol withdrawal syndrome and, if so, its severity.

    Treatment of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

If you have mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms, your doctor may prefer to treat you in an outpatient setting, especially if you have supportive family and friends. Outpatient detoxification is safe, effective, and less costly than inpatient detoxification at a hospital or other facility.

However, you may require inpatient treatment if you don’t have a reliable social network, are pregnant. or have a history of any of the following:

    • Severe withdrawal symptoms
    • Withdrawal seizures or DTs
    • Multiple previous detoxifications
    • Certain medical or psychiatric illnesses

The goals of treatment are threefold: reducing immediate withdrawal symptoms, preventing complications, and beginning long-term therapy to promote alcohol abstinence.

Prescription drugs of choice include benzodiazepines, such as diazepam (Valium ), chlordiazepoxide (Librium ), lorazepam (Ativan ), and oxazepam (Serax ). Such medications can help control the shakiness, anxiety, and confusion associated with alcohol withdrawal and reduce the risk of withdrawal seizures and DTs. In patients with mild to moderate symptoms, the anticonvulsant drug carbamazepine (Tegretol ) may be an effective alternative to benzodiazepines, because it is not sedating and has low potential for abuse.

To help manage withdrawal complications, your doctor may consider adding other drugs to a benzodiazepine regimen. These may include:

    • An antipsychotic drug, which can help relieve agitation and hallucinations
    • A beta-blocker, which may help curb a fast heart rate and elevated blood pressure related to withdrawal and reduce the strain of alcohol withdrawal in people with coronary artery disease
    • Clonidine (Catapres ), another blood pressure drug
    • Phenytoin (Dilantin ), an anticonvulsant which doesn’t treat withdrawal seizures but may be useful in people with an underlying seizure disorder

    Preventing Future Alcohol Withdrawal Episodes

Because successful treatment of alcohol withdrawal syndrome doesn’t address the underlying disease of addiction, it should be followed by treatment for alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence.

Relatively brief outpatient interventions can be effective for alcohol abuse, but more intensive therapy may be required for alcohol dependence. If you have alcohol dependence, your doctor may prescribe other medications to help you stop drinking. He or she also may recommend joining a 12-step group — such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous — or staying at a comprehensive treatment facility that offers a combination of a 12-step model, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and family therapy.

Norovirus (Winter Vomiting Bug): Symptoms and Treatment #norovirus, #norovirus #infection, #norovirus

The highly contagious norovirus can tear through cruise ships, classrooms, and other crowded spaces, leaving vomiting. diarrhea. and stomach cramps in its wake.

It spreads easily through food and drink and can have a big impact on people’s health. The CDC estimates that noroviruses are responsible for more than half of all food-borne disease outbreaks each year.

    Embed Asset Override

    What Are Noroviruses?

Worldwide, noroviruses are thought to be the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis (diarrhea and vomiting illness).

On average, noroviruses cause 19 million to 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis in the U.S. per year, according to the CDC. The norovirus was originally called the Norwalk virus, after the town of Norwalk, OH, where the first confirmed outbreak happened in 1972.

Because there are many different types of noroviruses, exposure to one type may not protect you from other types.

While they can strike year round, they’re more common in the winter, says Edward Gaydos, DO. a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic. (Norovirus is also called the “winter vomiting bug.”)

“You’re miserable for 1 to 3 days,” says Gaydos. “It’s usually an abrupt onset and a quick recovery. It’s a nuisance, but it’s not something to panic about. Most people will do fine with it.”

Noroviruses are sometimes called food poisoning. because they can be transmitted through food that’s been contaminated with the virus. They aren’t always the result of food contamination, though.

    Embed Asset Override

    Is Norovirus the Stomach Flu?

Norovirus is not related to flu. Flu is an infection of the respiratory system that causes fever. chills, aches, and pains. In fact, there’s no such thing as stomach flu, and it’s a term that Gaydos encourages patients to avoid. The confusion that it causes can have serious consequences.

“Sometimes people don’t want the flu shot because they say they’ve already had a stomach flu,” says Gaydos. “I try not to use that term.”

    What Causes Infection With Noroviruses?

People become infected with noroviruses when they eat or drink contaminated foods and beverages. Raw or undercooked oysters and raw fruits and vegetables have been implicated in some outbreaks. You can also get infected if you touch an object or surface that has been infected with the virus and then touch your nose, mouth. or eyes .

Techno Reinetsu of Japan is a reliable and experienced manufacturer of the Vapor Heat Treatment Plants. This system is a non-chemical alternative to control and sterilize quarantine pests in an ecofriendly way.

Techno Reinetsu’s Vapor Heat Treatment System

Techno Reinetsu of Japan has developed a Vapor Heat Treatment system that is a non-chemical alternative to control and quarantine unwanted insects and fungi in perishable commodities and tropical fruits like mangoes or papayas. Our VHT system helps to ensure that your customers have a healthy choice when they buy fruit. Vapor heat treatment is a very environmentally friendly process of sterilization which is much safer than the use of insecticides and other synthetic chemcials.

What is the Vapor Heat Treatment System?

When exporting tropical fresh fruit, such as mango and papaya, the fruit needs to go through strict plant quarantine inspections in the importing country to ensure that quarantine pests such as eggs and larvae of Melon flies and oriental fruit flies (which originate in tropical regions) and are present in fruits grown in these regions are sterilised and incapable of growing and multiplying in the importing country.

Importing countries where such pests do not exist insist that such fruit is treated by suitable process or processes to ensure extinction and sterilisation of such pests as a means to protect the flora of the importing country.

Vapor Heat Treatment is a perfect method for such a treatment and the process complies with strictest international standards. The Vapor Heat Treatment System achieves this objective with the use of hot saturated water vapour, and without the use of any chemicals. At the same time, during the process, the temperature and humidity are meticulously controlled so that the fruit is not damaged and freshness is naturally preserved. The Vapor Heat Treatment System is a safe way to treat fruit so that it passes the quarantine inspection, enabling the fruit to be exported.

    Hives Treatments: Medications and Home Remedies #hives #treatment, #treat #hives, #hives,treatment,

    How Do You Treat Hives?

The first step in managing hives is to find out the cause. You can then try to avoid that trigger.

A mild case often disappears on its own after a few hours. If it lasts longer, you can try an over-the-counter antihistamine .

See a doctor if your outbreak doesn’t disappear in a few days, though. And get medical help right away if you notice symptoms of angioedema (such as swelling of the lips, tongue. or throat) or a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis ).

If you often get hives. or if your outbreaks affect you a lot, your doctor will probably prescribe antihistamines. Treatment with corticosteroids, which you take by mouth. will sometimes reduce swelling when antihistamines don’t work. But doctors usually save them for more severe cases. Your doctor may also consider a biologic drug, omalizumab (Xolair ), for chronic hives in people age 12 and over.

    Home Remedies

If you’re severely allergic to bee stings or other insect bites. certain foods, or medications. ask your doctor about prescribing an emergency kit with epinephrine shots. You would use these to treat anaphylaxis. Always carry two epinephrine kits with you.

    When to Call Your Doctor

Tell your doctor if you keep getting bouts of hives that last a month or more.

Call 911 or get emergency medical help immediately if any of these things happen:

    1. You start to get burning or itchy welts in your throat.

    2. You get hives and a dry throat, cough. cold sweats, nausea. dizziness. trouble breathing. or a sharp drop in blood pressure after a bee sting or insect bite or a new medication. This may be anaphylaxis. Give yourself an epinephrine shot, even if you’re unsure whether your symptoms are allergy related. It’s safe to use. You’ll still need medical attention even if your symptoms seem to stop.

    3. You have symptoms of angioedema (again, that’s swelling of the lips, tongue. or throat). You need immediate medical attention so that it doesn’t block the air passage to the lungs .

    Negative Effects of Safflower Oil #sagebrush #treatment #center #reviews

    Superhuman Coach

Secrets of the Superhuman Food Pyramid: Negative Effects of Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is a colorless, flavorless, and odorless edible oil extracted from the safflower plant. Safflower’s history dates back to the ancient times, with the crop cultivated for its use in fabric dyes. Today, safflower is mainly farmed for its seeds which is the source of this plant’s edible oil. The United States is one of the major producers of the crop, making this edible oil available throughout the year. Though you can readily buy safflower oil, keeping it from your diet is advised for a host of health reasons.

Read further and discover more about the negative effects of safflower oil and why the Superhuman Food Pyramid recommends you avoid this source of dietary fats.

    Safflower Oil s Risks:

Safflower oil is a potent source of polyunsaturated fats or PUFAs. PUFAs assist in the lowering of bad cholesterol levels in the blood, and can therefore mitigate the risks of developing heart diseases especially if PUFAs are utilized as a substitute for saturated fats and trans fats. But there is a downside to this. As it turns out, PUFAs not only lower the bad cholesterol levels called low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, PUFAs simultaneously decrease the good cholesterol levels called high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol as well. So unless safflower oil is taken alongside edible oils like olive oil. which by the way are high in monounsaturated fats and therefore will not lower the HDL levels, then steering clear of safflower oil would then be prudent.

Safflower oil is one of the few edible oils that do not contain vitamin E. This conventional antioxidant vitamin is crucial as it helps in the eradication of free radicals in the body and therefore minimizes overall oxidative damage which can cause a host of conditions from skin aging to cancer. Opting for other edible oils that are rich in vitamin E like macadamia nut oil and coconut oil is then better than settling for safflower oil.

Safflower oil supplementation appears to aggravate renal injury as well. In a Japan-based study. stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats were given a variety of edible oils, one of which was safflower oil. As it turns out, those fed with the latter had increased serum protein in their urine, indicating severe damage to the kidneys. It would then be prudent for individuals who have had strokes, or have existing heart or kidney diseases to steer clear of safflower oil unless otherwise advised by their respective healthcare providers.

Safflower oil consumption may trigger allergic reactions as well. This is because safflower belongs to the same family of flowers as daisies, and individuals with sensitivity to the latter should avoid safflower oil at all costs. Safflower has cross-allergenicity with ragweed, mugwort, as well sagebrush pollen, and so individuals with known sensitivity to said plants should stay away from safflower oil as well.

Safflower oil may bring about gastrointestinal maladies, too. Stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting were reported by individuals who took safflower oil supplements. Taking safflower oil in large doses may result in lowered blood pressure as well and so individuals with hypotension should see to it to speak with their doctors first prior to taking this edible oil. Safflower oil appears to affect the body’s capability to clot blood as well, and so those with bleeding disorders, or who are taking antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications, or those who will undergo surgery, need to avoid safflower oil at all costs.

In the next post, I’ll tell you the negative effects of sunflower oil and why the Superhuman Food Pyramid recommends you avoid this source of dietary fats.

In the meantime, if you care to jump ahead, here is a complete listing of the dietary sources of fats on the Superhuman Food Pyramid :

If you have questions, comments or feedback about the negative effects of safflower oil, the Superhuman Food Pyramid. this website, or other aspects of Becoming Superhuman, then leave your thoughts below, as well as any tips you have on the negative effects of safflower oil.

    Christian Alcoholism – Christian Drug – Alcohol Treatment #christian #rehab, #christian-based

Christian alcoholism is a condition when a Christian alcoholism sufferer becomes physically dependent on alcohol. Christian alcoholism requires more than just faith in God to beat it. Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation and cornerstone to recovery from Christian alcoholism but action must be taken to truly take advantage of His guiding influence. Spencer Recovery Centers treats Christian alcoholism by encouraging Christian growth. The 12 step recovery process is utilized as is individual and group counseling incorporating Jesus Christ has our Higher Power. Call us today if you are committed to recovering from Christian alcoholism and reconciling your relationship to God, your family and loved ones.

Christian alcoholism is a very painful disease because if often includes the shame and guilt of hiding it from the church. At the very least the guilt of acting on sinful thoughts and compulsions can be a heavy burden for the Christian alcoholism sufferer. Proper treatment for Christian alcoholism is a focus on accepting that Jesus Christ can do for you what you could not do for yourself. Often you or a loved one makes a pledge to never drink again or cut down drinking only to be drunk again the next day or soon after. How does this happen? Perhaps you feel competent at work and feel you live your life by Christian principles yet in this one area you are totally helpless.

The bible tells the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15. This boy left his fathers house with the money his father had given him only to waste it away on wild living. He thought he was in control, that he knew what he was doing but soon found himself working for a farmer feeding pigs. He had a moment of clarity that his choices and behaviors had brought him down and he began to head home.

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long distance away, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’
    (Luke 15:20-21)

This classic lesson shows that if we can swallow our pride, have some humility and begin to take proper action that God will not make too tough a time for us. In fact he will meet us half way and take us back into his house and restore our life.

If you can recognize that your drinking has become chronic and compulsive there is still hope. That you see that you are killing yourself and that your problems are becoming worse and worse because of your drinking, this admission is a humble beginning. Please take this moment of clarity and call us for help with your Christian alcoholism.

Spencer Recovery Centers have been treating alcoholism for more than a decade and with facilities across the United States, we have a program that is right for you.

CBT Treatment Center – Los Angeles, CA #trichotillomania #treatment #centers

    Trichotillomania Treatment

You’ve had a rough day at work. You have deadlines, a demanding boss, and traffic was terrible on the way home. You walk in, head for your room, turn on the TV, and start playing with your hair. You don’t set out to pull, but as you’re running your fingers through, you find that one hair that stands out from the rest. This is your routine. Maybe it’s from your eyebrows or your eyelashes. Maybe it’s from your head. It feels so soothing in the moment that the urge to pull is more powerful than the thought of the consequences. You’ve done this since you were 10 years old, and don’t exactly know why you do it, but it’s always provided a sense of relief.

Yet when that wears off, you’re racked with guilt and shame. You have a bald spot on your head, or patchy eyebrows, or noticeably missing eyelashes. You have to brush your hair a certain way to cover it up, or perhaps even buy an expensive wig. You’ve become an expert makeup artist, trying to fill in the gaps of your eyebrows and eyelashes. You may have even done some permanent damage to them. It’s embarrassing and you’re afraid that no one will understand, so it’s become your little secret. Friends and family tell you to just stop, not realizing that not doing it makes you feel even worse.

    Regain Control

The average age of onset for trich for most people is between 9 and 13 years old, so there’s a good chance that you don’t remember a time when you didn’t have an urge to pull. It’s second nature at this point, and is a part of your routine. Because of this, the idea of not pulling is hard to fathom.

There is hope. Our understanding of trich has improved significantly over the last decade, and effective trichotillomania treatment has developed over that time. The ideas of therapy, treatment, or even psychology in general can seem so vague, but on a fundamental level, you are looking for a solution to a problem. I understand that, and my goal is to help you find it.

    Understanding Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania is the intense urge to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows, or other parts of your body. This is usually preceded by an ever-increasing anxiousness prior to pulling your hair out, and then there’s a great sense of relief after you’ve done it.

Trich often involves rituals. The hair is usually pulled from the same spot, and then the puller will often do something with the hair after the fact. Some people will chew or eat their pulled hair. Others will play with it, or arrange it in a certain fashion. These rituals are part of the entire process that’s associated with trichotillomania.

    How Common Is Trichotillomania?

Many trich sufferers are ashamed of it, and try their best to hide it from the rest of the world. They are afraid that no one will understand their condition, and will judge them as a result. Unlike other mental health disorders, trichotillomania often comes with symptoms that everyone else can see. Bald patches on your scalp, missing portions of your eyebrow…the types of things that are going to elicit questions from strangers and loved ones alike. And you have no interest in answering those questions, so you do your best to cover up.

Trichotillomania is far more common than you might think. A 2013 study by he Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine found that around 3.4% of the US population has suffered from trich in their lifetime. That’s 1 in 30 people. So that “strange little thing that you do with your hair, eyebrows, etc” isn’t so unusual after all. If you’re working out at the gym, at a restaurant, or even at work, there’s a pretty good chance that someone else in that room has trichotillomania as well. However, just like you, they’ve probably gotten pretty good at hiding it, and you would never know.

Why does pulling my hair feel good?

Studies have shown that pullers experience a rush of dopamine, the body’s “pleasure” chemical. The pulling is often done as a response to anxiety, stress, boredom, sadness, or even hunger. The pulling releases the dopamine, which eases the stress that the body is under, but then the pulling leads to self-loathing, guilt, and disappointment.

In this way, the cycle of pulling feeds itself. Stress, guilt, anxiety, etc. lead to pulling, pulling leads to relief, then relief fades and turns into stress, guilt, anxiety, etc. about the pulling. Trichotillomania treatment helps you break that cycle.

I’ve tried to stop before. Why would this time be different?

I cannot guarantee you that it will be. Trichotillomania treatment is not a magic trick, and it requires a commitment from you. It’s a two way street, where we’re partners in your healing.

That being said, this time can most certainly be different. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective trichotillomania treatment. and backed by a significant amount of research. CBT is a solution focused and relatively short term therapy. In CBT, we focus on identifying and changing the thoughts, behaviors, and situation that lead to pulling.

    I ve tried other therapists

While I cannot speak to your specific situation, I am a verified treatment provider by the Trichotillomania Learning Center ( ), and have certainly seen my fair share of trich cases. Trich is, well…tricky…and many therapists do not have the training necessary to provide adequate trichotillomania treatment. I have plenty of experience helping those who pull. My office is a safe place where you will be understood.

I’m not ready to commit to trichotillomania treatment just yet. What now?

You’re absolutely right that you can do this, but embarking on this journey can feel daunting. I understand that, and have helped many people just like you to get the trichotillomania treatment that they need. Please subscribe to my Trich Newsletter. or call me at (424) 262-2014 for a free, 15 minute phone consultation. where we can discuss how to start your journey toward ending the pulling.

Alcohol and Drug Recovery: Residential Treatment Programs #alcohol #abuse, #drug #abuse,

    Residential Treatment Programs

R ESIDENTIAL or In-Patient Programs usually require a commitment of at least 30 days and typically include room and board. Through intensive counseling and group interactions, addicts/alcoholics learn how to regain control of their lives using key recovery tools. Most programs follow the 12 steps of AA. Some residential programs are staffed to provide addicts with detoxification services to help through the early stages of withdrawal.

The goal of all recovery programs is to help the addict recover from drug/alcohol abuse by addressing the underlying issues that contribute to addiction. These programs remove the addict from the environment and acquaintances that enabled their addiction allowing the recovering addict to focus on their addictive behavior instead of their drug use.

Most programs are staffed with a team of drug abuse, and alcohol abuse expert professionals in addiction recovery. Programs combine a sober living environment with intensive group counseling that treats each participant with respect, dignity and confidentiality.

When seeking treatment, some may feel as though a faith-based addiction facility is an uncommon choice. The truth is, the numbers prove that this choice is highly effective. Spirit-based treatment centers have successfully helped many addicts reach their recovery goals. Weston Rehab is no exception.

    Why Choose Weston Rehab Facility?

When comparing faith-based treatment with more traditional methods, there are some distinct differences. What exactly makes faith-based methods more effective for some people? It is largely believed that all types of addictions, are not only caused by physical and mental disturbances, but also spiritual.

Individuals are often driven to addiction, once they have experienced some sort of trauma-related incident in their lives. This leaves large gaps in their spirit, which are then filled with substances of abuse. By restoring faith in the divine, these voids are often filled.

In turn, this allows individuals to detach themselves from substance dependency and instead, they are able to focus on more productive aspects of life. At Weston Rehab, we help our clients begin their road to recovery, helping them maintain sobriety.

We are a faith-based rehab facility, with so much to offer our clients. Not only will they strengthen their faith, but they will also have access to the top evidence-based treatment options. It is this holistic approach, that allows our clients to be so successful.

No Need to Look Any Further, We’re Here For You

If you’re looking for a Christian Rehab in Dallas. then no need to look any further. Weston Rehab offers everything you would need and more. When looking for a treatment provider, it’s important to remember that not all places are created equal. Weston Rehab provides everything you would need to reach and maintain sobriety.

Depending on your specific needs, the rehab you choose should offer features and services in which will help you on your road to recovery. However, regardless of your needs, there are certain factors in which you should be aware of. We offer all the crucial elements needed to succeed:

    1. Type of Addiction: Drug and alcohol abuse are the two most common; but you or a loved one’s needs may differ from these types of addiction. People suffer from gambling addictions, sex addictions, eating disorders, and more. At Weston Rehab, we treat all types of addiction, as well as mental health conditions. We have the experience that our clients need to succeed.

    2. Competency of Staff – Our staff is competent and well-experienced when dealing with addicts on their road to recovery. What’s important to note here, is that our staff is composed of both pastoral counselors and certified counselors. Certified counselors are the ones you usually find in traditional rehabilitation centers, while the pastoral counselors provide the spiritual boost needed to reaffirm your faith in God. However, even the certified counselors lean towards a more spiritual healing approach, making sure that each step you take is in line with the faith-centered essence of our facility. Weston Rehab is extremely proud of our staff members, as they are highly experienced and supportive. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them for you.

    3. What Others Say – When it comes to faith-based treatment facilities, word-of mouth is the best way to hear about the true effectiveness of a facility. At Weston Rehab, we become very close to our clients and their families. We build a community of support, so it’s natural that people have great things to say. We stay in close contact with our residents, who are all very proud of the progress they have made with us.

    4. Facilities Available – A facility that is well-cared for, generally means that residents are also well-cared for. We offer a facility that is clean, supportive and comfortable. This makes individuals more prone to successfully tackle the challenges in which they face. At Weston Rehab, we offer all the facilities a client would need, plus more. We believe in offering numerous options, as each individual is unique in terms of their interests, need, and wants. If you would like to come look at our beautiful facility, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    5. Extracurricular Facilities – If you believe that the presence of extracurricular activities will help your recovery process, then please feel free to ask us about the great options we offer. At Weston Rehab, we work with our clients, providing the most rewarding experience possible. We ensure that our clients are comfortable, so that they can focus on their recovery.

    6. Cost of the Facility – The cost of treatment tends to be a top concern. Although treatment can be costly, you are investing in your future. Please keep in mind, that when it comes to your recovery – quality is always the best option. Think about how costly a relapse would be if you don’t find the treatment you need today. You could not only pay more financially, but you could pay with your life. West Rehab offers multiple payments options, so that clients can obtain the treatment they deserve.

    7. The Aftercare – Aftercare refers to the treatment a client receives once they leave the facility. This is quite common and may be the most important aspect of a good addiction treatment center. When you’re in a controlled environment, such as inpatient treatment, you have a more structured routine. Once you leave the facility, you’re faced with the same temptations as before. Typically, aftercare programs involve continuing, regular therapy sessions. At Weston Rehab, we build strong relationships with our clients, helping them every step of the way. Once the inpatient portion of their treatment is complete, we continue to provide care. This is one of the ways in which we help our clients maintain sobriety.

Our faith-based facilities offers that much needed component, in which traditional treatment facilities do not offer. With a spiritual guide, residents are not only healed from their addiction, but are healed completely – from the inside out. You will not only find that you’re leaving a destructive path behind, but you’ll begin your journey onto the right path.

Heroin Addiction Treatment Success Rates and Statistics #heroine #addiction #treatment

Heroin Addiction Treatment Success Rates and Statistics

Heroin Addiction Treatment: Heroin Addiction Treatment Success Rates, Types of Treatment, and Statistics.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that around 4.2 million people over the age of twelve have experimented with heroin at some point during their lifetimes. Around one-fourth of people who try heroin develop a crippling addiction to the substance, and there are around 900,000 chronic heroin users in the United States. Heroin is a difficult drug to overcome, but heroin addiction treatment is the first step towards recovery. Several types of treatments can be undertaken to successfully overcome a heroin habit, although heroin addiction treatment success rates vary widely by treatment center or clinic.

    What Is Heroine?

Heroin, informally known as smack, horse, H, and black tar, is a sticky brown, black, or white powder that is made from morphine, a substance found naturally in the Asian poppy plant. Heroin users mix the substance with water and inject it into their bodies with a syringe. Heroin can also be snorted up the nose or smoked in a pipe. No matter which route is used to get it into the body, the substance is very addictive.

    Why Is Heroin Addictive?

To understand heroin addiction treatment, it is important to understand how heroin affects the brain. When heroin enters the brain, it devolves from its current state back into morphine. Morphine binds to the receptors in the brain that are involved in the perception of pain and reward—opioid receptors. This action causes a sense of euphoria to engulf the user. When the drug wears off, the feeling goes away. It is this longing for the euphoric state induced by heroin that makes it so addictive. This state is described by addicts as a feeling of happiness and well-being. When the body adapts to the presence of the drug, the user will experience symptoms of withdrawal until more of the drug is used.

    Heroin Dependence

Many users don t realize that they have a problem with heroin dependence until they go into withdrawal. Withdrawal from heroin can include bone pain, muscle pain, restlessness, cold flashes, vomiting, and diarrhea. When no heroin is available, users will have severe cravings for it accompanied by symptoms of withdrawal. If you develop an uncontrollable desire for the drug, find it hard to stop using heroin, or continue to use it even though it is causes harm, you may suffer from addiction.

    Medication-Assisted Treatment

Most heroin addicts realize that they cannot kick the habit on their own, because addiction to opioids is a disease in much the same way diabetes is a disease. Several heroin addiction treatment options can help the heroin addict return to a healthy, normal life. These medications are not used on their own to overcome addiction but are offered in conjunction with counseling and a support network of friends or family when possible. Medications can be given as an inpatient or outpatient treatment, and the type of program that is used can have a big impact on completion and success. When it comes to heroin addiction treatment success rates, as part of an outpatient treatment, medication therapy has a 35 percent completion rate, while the completion rate for a residential program was as high as 65 percent, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

    Buprenorphine Treatment

Buprenorphine, which is sometimes referred to by its brand names, including Subutex, Zubsolv, or Probuphine, is a popular type of medication that is used to treat heroin addiction. While this medication does not make the user feel high, it tricks the brain into thinking that it is receiving heroin. This keeps symptoms of withdrawal away while reducing cravings for the drug. Another similar medication is Suboxone, which contains not only buprenorphine but also naloxone. Naloxone is an ingredient that will cause symptoms of withdrawal once the drug is injected into the system. This drug is usually taken once daily, or even every other day.

    Methadone Treatment

Methadone, also known as Dolophine or Methadose, is a long-acting opioid-agonist medication that is taken orally to dampen the high normally felt by heroin users, because it reaches the brain slowly. Methodone clinics dispense daily doses of the drug to participants. This is an effective medication for managing and overcoming heroin addiction and is often recommended for patients who cannot tolerate other medication-based treatments. Research has shown that this type of medication-assisted treatment for heroin addiction is more effective when combined with a group or individual counseling plan.

Naltrexone, also known as Revia or Depade, is an opioid antagonist that is sometimes preferred over other medication options because it is not addictive and does not act as a sedative or cause physical dependence. Naltrexone is also used for patients who are unable to tolerate an agonist program.

    Proven Results with Medication-Based Therapy

In a study conducted by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it was shown that each of these medication-assisted therapies were effective, at least to some extent, in countering heroin use. There was little difference in the treatment outcomes of those taking high-dose methadone or burprenorphine, with heroin addiction treatment success rates ranging from 72.7 percent for those in the methadone group to 20 percent for those patients on a low-dose of methadone. Those taking burprenorphine and high-dose methadone saw nearly the same outcomes. Overall among all groups, the rate of heroin use decreased by around 90 percent after treatment was started.

Which Heroin Addiction Treatment Works Best?

An addiction counselor or your doctor can be instrumental in helping you determine which heroin addiction treatment option is the best for you and your particular situation. Regardless of which option you choose, statistics show that overcoming heroin addiction is easier when the condition is approached as a chronic disease and treated with both medication and counseling. Having a good support system in place during heroin addiction treatment is also important, including support from family and friends who understand what you re going through.

Thank you for your comments and your article it is very informative. My loved one has been addicted for four years out of our six year relationship. I love him dearly and try to support and be here for him, but I feel that he needs to go to a rehab. He has made several attempts to getting clean on his own and it works for a couple of days but in a week he is back on it. I just feel it is getting harder for him to get clean and I feel helpless not being able to help. I do agree that if you are trying to get clean you should also give up the alcohol we have missed several gatherings and feel that we are being isolated from everyone else because of his addiction. I just hope he realize the importance for him and his health to go to treatment before something worse happens.

I got clean from chronic intravenous heroin and crack addiction in the rooms of a 12 step fellowship called cocaine anonymous. If I can do it anyone can. Of myself I ve no chance but by walking out that spiritual program of action laid out to me through CA I have overcome, thanks be to God. My family love Cocaine Anonymous and they haven t even been there

I believe the ONLY WAY to stay clean is to RELOCATE. Get far far away from temptation. Far enough away that the time between trigger and action is going to be so long, you will have time to rethink. Far away from every place, every person, every opportunity. This may be a cross you carry for the rest of your life, so you d better give yourself time and space to work. I went from Austin TX, to the mountains in OR, 3 miles from a paved rd. Can t say it s easy yet, but I have tried to start as many projects as I can, like walks, movies, painting, sewing, rock work, planting a garden . energy comes, and goes, sometimes for days, weeks, hours, minutes. I can t control it anymore, so I am trying to create a way to flow. Not easy, but it isn t supposed to be. It is supposed to be WORTH IT! I drink a little, and dose with passion flower, smoke like a chimney, but WTF, I do continue. It s ok to be somewhat stationary for months, years. It s the cross to carry. Im 100 days sober. No heroin, no meth, no needles and I would be lying if I said I didn t think about it every day, or dream about it. Lord have mercy. When it gets really bad, i watch back to back movies, go for long walks, cook, blare music . anything. My back pain tortures me, but as each thought and trigger comes, I decide what to do with it, and now is my chance to rewire my brain. As we are just as simple/complicated as computers. So there, cheers to 100 days, RELOCATION IS THE KEY! and FILL THE WHOLE WITH something that is equally time consuming.

    Lice Removal & Treatment Services #quality #lice #removal, #treatment, #lice #place,

    Welcome to The Lice Place

If you or a family member are unfortunate enough to come down with head lice, you may want to think twice before reaching for the customary bottle of lice shampoo or prescription treatment from the drug store. According to the latest research the tiny blood-sucking parasites are becoming increasingly resistant to traditional methods of treatment.

The problem is that the over-the-counter shampoos have used the same few chemicals since they came on the market in the mid-1980s. They worked well at first, but over time, the lice developed widespread resistance to them. In fact, 99% of lice in a recent study were found to be immune to the effects of insecticides. Pharmaceutical prescription treatments, per their own clinical studies, only show a 70% to 80% efficacy rate.

In addition to being ineffective and having some possible medical risks, the shampoos and prescription treatments are costly and only delay the suffering. At The Lice Place,we get rid of lice safely, effectively, and efficiently in just one treatment – without the use of pesticides. Furthermore, the head lice education and information you will receive at any of our clinics is based upon research, clinical studies and our own 11+ years of experience. No other lice treatment company is more professional and successful in defeating head lice than The Lice Place.

Why The Lice Place is the safe, smart and effective choice:

    • The Lice Place is owned and operated by a Registered Nurse.
    • As a Registered Nurse, Penny Warner and The Lice Place team are bound by certain guidelines and practices that protect your family from potential harm.
    • During her more than 18 years as a Registered Nurse, Penny worked as a critical care nurse, as well as Director of Patient Safety, Risk Management, Healthcare Improvement, Education, Infection Control and Accreditation Coordinator. She brings all that knowledge and experience to her lice removal business.
    • The Lice Place started in 2006 when there were fewer than 5 lice removal companies in the US. You won’t find another service with more experience than The Lice Place.
    • Every family that comes to one of The Lice Place clinics will have their own private treatment room (at no extra charge) – We understand that your privacy is important.
    • The Lice Place has infection control policies in place, which ensures you will not get head lice after coming into any of our offices.
    • Utilizing The Warner Method – a safe, non-toxic, pesticide-free method of combing and manual removal – The Lice Place has the highest publicized success rate in the country – 99.6 percent, which is backed by our hassle-free 30-day guarantee!
    • At The Lice Place, we start AND finish the treatment. The burden is never placed on the client to “finish” the treatment at home. After all, isn’t that why you came to The Lice Place?
    • At The Lice Place, no one plays up the “panic” mode of head lice or preys upon a person’s vulnerability during this trying time. As members of the NALTP, you can be assured we will treat your family ethically in all aspects – from treatment to billing to honoring our guarantee.
    • No pesticides, no gimmicks, no copycats! We are THE lice removal company other companies try to duplicate. There is no need to go anywhere else but to the original – The Lice Place!

After my daughter got lice from her classmates, we tried getting rid of it on our own. Unfortunately we couldn’t get rid of the lice and after 3 treatments, I was very thankful to find The Lice Place. They removed the lice in one treatment and we haven’t seen any lice since then! Thanks again for all your help.

When I called yesterday and talked to April I was frantic. I was half way around the world working in Iraq, and was not there to help my daughter, when she needed it. April was so calm and collected and made Chloe an appointment for the same day, which her dad had to take her to. I thought between him, his mother, the school and of course ME freaking out, there is no way we can get this handled last minute in one day. Thanks to April it happened. I really appreciate all of your help during this time of need and will never forget it. Believe it or not it means more to some people than others, the every day work you do. I thought it was hard doing what I do. LOL I heard it took 2 hours on my daughters hair and my husband was so impressed and informed when he left. We can’t thank you enough. GREAT JOB. I will definitely recommend your services in the future.

The minute I walked in here, I knew I had come to the right place.

I brought my four kids in today after a fierce battle with head lice over the weekend (I realize some people battle this for months. I can’t even imagine the horror!). Your facility is a GODSEND. I actually have felt my pulse and blood pressure return to normal after visiting today. I will feel 100% better after our follow-up check later this week, but I just wanted to thank you and your staff for saving a mom from the brink of insanity. And my sweet kiddos from more torture as we frantically attacked their heads! It will be wonderful to think about something other than lice! God bless!

I just wanted to email to let you know how much my family and I appreciate Nina at your Dallas location. We made an appointment today and she and one of her employees worked through myself and my 3 daughters. All have long hair and 2 had quite a few nits. This was our first exposure to lice- so we count ourselves lucky to have it hit the first time when the girls were 16 and 12. The office was extremely busy – but Nina treated us very well. She patiently, pleasantly and diligently worked through our heads to insure we were lice free when we left. Hopefully we won’t be repeat customers in the future – but I will have no hesitation in referring The Lice Place to any family that may be experiencing a lice issue.

OK, I cannot tell you and your staff enough THANK YOU’S. You saved my daughter and family. We were able to get in and out within 24 hours so my daughter could get back to camp. Just imagine 13 years old at camp and sent home. Penny was able to schedule us on Monday at 9am to get in. We were thrilled about the service. She was cleaned and she went back to camp the same day. She only missed 1 day. More driving to and from camp than anything. I cannot thank you and your staff enough for help, professionalism and overall kindness. The information given by your staff is up to date and very informative. The truth about Lice comes out and it is not that scary. When you and your staff explain things in a not panic frantic way, it all works out. Again I cannot thank you and your staff enough. A client and referral for life, (longer than a lice life).

have literally spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on products that don’t work. If I had come here when this first started, I would have saved myself a lot of money and a lot of frustration.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for running a wonderful company that is truly a Godsend. Unfortunately, despite being super cautious, I ended up getting lice from one of my 6 year old students, which I discovered yesterday. I frantically searched the internet for treatment options and came across your website. I called as soon as the clinic opened this morning, and I was able to get in by 11:30. Your staff took care of me, and what an amazing job they did. They helped calm my stress level and put me at ease with everything. Within an hour and a half, I was out the door and feeling much better about the situation. Thank you again for everything! I will definitely recommend you in the future!

I was thrilled with the service we received. Thank you so much for starting this business and for employing such kind and professional individuals.

After our family had an outbreak of lice, we were happy to find The Lice Place. They were professional and worked very quickly to get rid of the lice issue. They also gave us some great tips for removing lice from our home altogether, which worked perfectly.

Slipped (Herniated) Disk Symptoms, Treatment, and Home Remedies #herniated #disc #chiropractic

What Is Slipped Disc (Herniated Disc)?

The disks are protective shock-absorbing pads between the bones of the spine (vertebrae). The disks of the spine are also referred to as intervertebral disks. Although they do not actually slip, a disk may bulge, split, or rupture. This can cause the disk cartilage and nearby tissue to fail (herniate), allowing the inner gel portion of the disk to escape into the surrounding tissue. This protruding, jelly-like substance can place pressure on the spinal cord or on an adjacent nerve to cause symptoms of pain. numbness, or weakness either around the damaged disk or anywhere along the area supplied by that nerve.

Many people experience no symptoms from a herniated disk, and the majority of people who have herniated disks do not need surgery.

The layman s term slipped disk is, therefore, a misnomer and actually refers to a condition whereby portions of an abnormal, injured, or degenerated disk have protruded against adjacent nerve tissues. This condition is also known as a herniated disk, ruptured disk, or prolapsed disk. The most frequently affected area is in the low back, but any disk can rupture, including those in the neck.

Cross-section (side view picture) of herniated disk between L4 and L5 (the forth and fifth lumbar vertebrae)

Cross-section (vertical) of lumbar disc herniation into spinal canal

What Are Causes and Risk Factors of a Slipped Disc?

Risk factors that lead to a slipped disk include aging with associated degeneration and loss of elasticity of the disks and supporting structures; injury from improper lifting, especially if accompanied by twisting or turning; and excessive strain forces associated with physical activities. Sudden forceful acute trauma is an uncommon cause of a slipped disk.

Psoriasis Treatment – Psoriasis Cure in Australia #psoriosis #treatment

“For some six months I had a psoriasis condition of eight of my fingers together with hardening, thickening and splitting of the skin on my heels.Of the two treatments received prior to visiting you, no permanent improvement occurred. Your questions regarding triggers in my food and drink intakes indicated a build up of acid in my body. After 6 weeks of treatment with your Gel, Ointment and adjusting of my diet, the psoriasis has almost completely disappeared from my hands and my heels are now normal. I wish to thank you for your advice and trust my testimony will be useful to others with like condition”.

    By J.B. Victoria Australia.,

“How can I ever thank you enough as after suffering with psoriasis for over 30 years and going to endless doctors and specialists and getting no relief. After six weeks of following your eating guide lines as well as using your cream twice a day it has all but disappeared. If I didn’t see it I would never have believed it. To think I have lived with it for so many years and it caused my family not to mention myself so much suffering in not being able to do just what we wanted when we wanted, I an amazed at the results, even if I wasn’t too thrilled about the spinach in the beginning.

    By J.R. South Australia.,

“I’ve had psoriasis for over 25 years and used all the recommended forms of treatment. I have grasped at straws and tried lots of unrecognised treatments and had varying degrees of success for very short times. Cortisone cream was giving little result and I had become very frustrated. After using Dr. Tirant’s cream I noticed an improvement within 2 days and within three weeks was well on my way to being psoriasis free. At the time of writing this I have been totally without psoriasis for nearly three months”.

    By P.O. Victoria. Australia.,

“May I thank you for managing my psoriasis and sending it into remission, I have no doubt that if I continue with your diet guidelines and other advice I will remain completely free of it. It is most reassuring to have the cause understood and the situation controlled after ten years of its persistence. My best wishes for your work and the relief it will bring many who are yet to know of you and your way of understanding the person of the patient and therefore bringing concentration on to a primary cause of the problem”

Alpine Special Treatment Center Reviews in Alpine, CA #alpine #special #treatment

Alpine Special Treatment Center Alpine Reviews

I have been working at Alpine Special Treatment Center full-time

Alpine Special Treatment Center (ASTCI) is a very unique facility that offers excellent job opportunities with room to grow. ASTCI is committed to providing the best client care available and opportunities for employees to gain incredible experience working with individuals with chronic and acute mental illness. The work environment can be fast paced at times, and stressful in certain moments. However, the Program Department’s management is very supportive and helpful. I can honestly state the Program Director and Assistant Program Director are the best supervisors I have had in this field. Beyond that, the “direct care staff” care for one another and help each other out when working on the units. The teamwork at ASTCI is beyond excellent and the training ASTCI provides ensures that staff are well trained. In addition, veteran staff and supervisors offer ongoing training and support after the initial formal training period.
At ASTCI one has the opportunity to grow as a clinician and person. There are frequent salary raises and self care bonuses, as well as annual raises based on performance factors. The pay is standard for mental health in San Diego County. Having worked at other companies within mental health in different counties, I am confident that Alpine Special Treatment Center is the best place in mental health I have worked. It is frustrating to read the poor reviews coming for a minority of disgruntled past employees who left because they were not good at their jobs. Please take them with a grain of salt. Alpine is a great place to work, learn, grow and mature in the mental health field.

May be far distance for some. Although it is 45 min from most places in the county.

    Hives on Face #hives, #hives #treatment, #hives #rash, #hives #on #face,

Hives Treatment Center Over 150,000 patients helped since 2001

    What Are Hives On Face?

Hives on face are raised, flat-topped bumps that are smooth to the touch, typically red in color and commonly referred to as facial hives. They can occur anywhere on your face and neck, including the lips, eyes and ears. They are often incredibly itchy and are usually accompanied by a burning sensation (similar to a sunburn) when touched.

Facial hives can also be accompanied by facial swelling that is brought on by the body building up fluids in the tissues of your face. This facial swelling is medically referred to as angioedema. It is not uncommon for this swelling to spread to your neck and upper arms. Once you get hives on face, you can expect to be revisited by them on a regular basis without proper treatment. Hives on face are usually not a one time event, but a sign of what is to come in the future. They are also often passed on from generation to generation.

    Best Facial Hives Treatment

    What Causes Hives On Face?

Hives on face are caused by your body perceiving something your face has come in contact with as being dangerous and thus releases histamine into your face to try to fight off the attack. In essence, you have an allergic reaction to something that touched your face and the hives / welts that appear on your face are your body’s way of trying to fight off the allergen.

Most of the time, the cause of hives on face is never identified with 100% accuracy. However, there are some common triggers for angioedema and facial hives:

Excessive sun exposure – even with sunscreen (see sun hives )

    Toiletries (soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc.)

Drug allergies (antibiotics, aspirin, sulfa, penicillin, ACE inhibitors like blood pressure medications, etc.)

Overexposure to cold (see cold hives ), heat (see heat hives ) or water

Food allergies (shellfish, eggs, nuts, milk, berries, fish, etc.)

    Certain fabrics (blankets, sheets, etc.)

    Insect stings and bites

    Pollen or hay fever

Infections or illnesses like Lupus and Leukemia

Some not so common causes include obesity, facial surgery (head, nose or jaw), injury to your face, blood transfusion, cellulitis, sinusitis, tooth abscess, etc.

Some people believe that facial hives goes hand in hand with menopause. This is simply not true. However, there are many hormonal changes that take place during the many stages of menopause, and this alone can cause hives. But this does not mean that all women who go through menopause will experience hives on face.

What Are The Symptoms of Facial Hives?

The most common hives on face symptoms include:

Small round raised swollen areas, rings or large patches of red or skin colored welts.

Intense itchiness accompanied by burning sensation when touched.

Face can feel hot to the touch and can turn bright red – like a sunburn.

Often accompanied by swollen face, mouth, ears and eyes as the body rushes fluids to the area (angioedema ).

Hives can extend from the face down the neck and onto the shoulders.

When inflammation goes down, the skin can be scaly from being swollen and the skin can be sensitive.

Are The Hives On My Face Dangerous?

In my experience, just over half of the people we’ve heard from with hives on their face also have angioedema. which causes uncomfortable swelling beneath the skin. When this causes throat swelling, some people can have breathing difficulties, which can result in death if not treated quickly by your local emergency room. If you find that you are having problems breathing, seek immediate medical help! If you also have a fever. this may be a sign of an infection and you should contact your primary care physician to discuss treatment options.

How Do I Get Rid Of My Facial Hives?

For temporary relief of hives on your face, wash your face with cold water 3-4 times. This should sooth the itch and burning sensation that comes with facial hives. Applying a cold compresses should also provide temporary relief by reducing the swelling in your face. Try to keep your head above your heart as much as possible as well. When sleeping, try to keep your head raised by using an extra pillow or two. This will also help reduce the swelling associated with the hives on your face. Be sure to see our How To Get Rid Of Hives Fast page as well.

For permanent relief, you will need to take a hives treatment that is proven to be effective at eliminating facial hives outbreaks. Benedryl is NOT a cure for facial hives. It only marginally helps treat the symptoms and not the hives themselves. This is why antihistamines are a poor substitute for a real hives cure.

Drug and Alcohol Detox – The First Step to Sobriety #detox

    Drug and Alcohol Detox

    What Is Detoxification?

Detoxification, or detox, is the process of letting the body remove the drugs in it. The purpose of detox is to safely manage withdrawal symptoms when someone stops taking drugs or alcohol.

Everyone has a different experience with detox. The type of drug and how long it was used affect what detox will be like.

Medications used in detox help keep former users comfortable while the drugs leave their body.

It can take days or months to get through withdrawal symptoms for most drugs. The length of withdrawal depends on the type of drugs and how heavily they were used.

Speak with someone who can help you find a medically assisted detox now.

    Can I Detox at Home?

Choosing to detox at home can be deadly. Quitting cold turkey or without medical supervision can lead to serious issues such as seizures and severe dehydration.

There are inpatient and outpatient detox programs that help prevent dangerous complications. People with severe addictions should seek inpatient detox because withdrawal can be fatal. Inpatient detox includes 24-hour support and monitoring.

    The Process of Detoxification

Everyone s detox needs are different. The drug detox process helps addicted people get personalized treatment. In most cases, the process involves three steps:

The medical team screens incoming patients for physical and mental health issues. Doctors use blood tests to measure the amount of drugs in the patient s system. This helps determine the level of medications needed.

There is also a comprehensive review of drug, medical and psychiatric histories. This information sets up the basis for the patient s long-term treatment plan.

The next step is to stabilize the patient with medical and psychological therapy. The goal of stabilization is to prevent any form of harm to the patient. Doctors can prescribe addiction treatment medications to prevent complications and reduce withdrawal symptoms.

    Preparing Entry into Treatment

The final step of detox is preparation for a treatment program. Doctors familiarize their patients with the treatment process and what to expect. Inpatient rehab offers the best chances of success after detox.

If detox takes place in an inpatient program, this last step is crucial to keep patients on track.

    Side Effects of Detox

The process of drug detox can be painful and dangerous. This is why medical detox is so important. Detox with medical supervision allows patients to detox in a safe and comfortable environment. The extent of supervision is different in inpatient and outpatient rehab .

A medically supervised detox prevents dangerous complications of drug and alcohol withdrawal.

Although medical detox limits the symptoms of withdrawal, some are unavoidable. Some of the most common side effects may include:

    • Nervousness or anxiety
    • Insomnia
    • Nausea
    • Muscle weakness
    • Mood swings

    Drug Detox During Pregnancy

A pregnant woman has a strong motive to quit drugs for her baby s sake. Detox, especially if done cold turkey, can cause stress on the unborn child such as preterm labor or severe fetal distress.

Detox with medical supervision is an absolute must for pregnant women. The goal of detox for pregnant women is to prevent relapse and manage pain.

Detox specialists can keep babies safe and healthy by treating pregnant women in detox.

Doctors often prescribe medications to stabilize pregnant women in detox. Alcohol and opiate detox usually pose the most risks to unborn children.

    Detox by Drug Type

Detox is more difficult for some people depending on the drugs they used. Depending on the drug, withdrawal symptoms may be more physical or more mental.

Cocaine withdrawal, for instance, is psychological. Detox involves managing initial cravings and anxiety. But alcohol withdrawal includes physical symptoms that can cause seizures or death in some cases.

Detox often includes medications that mimic the effects of drugs to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Medications may also target co-occurring disorders or general discomfort.

Drugs that are most dangerous to detox from, and often require medication, include:

Rapid and Ultra-rapid Detox and Risks

Rapid detox is a method of removing substances from a user’s system faster than regular detox. Advocates of rapid detox say it’s a faster way to get the drugs out of the body while avoiding painful withdrawal symptoms.

Rapid detox can be dangerous as well as expensive.

In rapid detox, the addicted person is sedated with anesthesia and given medications that replace the drugs in the body. This method was originally developed for people addicted to opiate drugs like heroin and painkillers. The risks of rapid detox often outweigh the benefits.

Ultra-rapid detox programs can take as little as a few hours. Approximately 1 in 500 people die from ultra rapid detox, according to the Coleman Institute.

Traditional rapid detox programs take about two to three days to complete and carry less danger, but are still more expensive than a typical detox. It can cost up to $10,000 and isn t generally covered by insurance.

    Life After Detox

Detox is just the first part of addiction treatment. Detox on its own is usually insufficient for a successful recovery. Addicted people need to treat the psychological part of their addiction. They can accomplish this with counseling, support groups or an inpatient rehab program. An addiction specialist will help you transition into your new treatment plan.

    34 Menopause Symptoms Treatments #menopause #treatment,menopause #treatments,treatment #for #menopause,34 #menopause #symptoms

    34 Menopause Symptoms Treatments

    Follow us

While some women undergo the menopausal transition without incident, most will experience some combination of the 34 menopause symptoms. In fact, more than 70% of women experience menopause symptoms during the transition. The duration varies: for many women, the symptoms cease after the occurrence of menopause (typically in their fifties), yet other women will continue experiencing them well into old age. Though these menopause symptoms may be unpleasant, it is important to remember that menopause, rather than being an illness, is a natural. normal change in a woman’s body.

All menopause symptoms are connected to the hormonal fluctuations that take place during this transition. Because of this root cause, the go-to treatment for many years was hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, the potential side effects of this medication has led to reconsideration of how it is prescribed. As a first recourse, a combination of healthy lifestyle adjustments and alternative medicine is often enough to address symptoms.

Three Approaches to Treating the 34 Menopause Symptoms

In the treatment of menopause symptoms, three tiers are typically considered: (1) Lifestyle Changes. (2) Alternative Medicine. and (3) Medications and Surgery. The general recommendation is that women begin with the first tier and move on to the others only if necessary.

    1. Lifestyle Changes

    Simple Lifestyle Changes

    • Avoiding caffeine and alcohol
    • Sleeping seven to eight hours per night
    • Consuming vitamins A, C, D, & E
    • Practicing breathing exercises
    • Eating a balanced diet
    • Exercising regularly
    • Staying hydrated
    • Quitting smoking

While this approach requires the most self-discipline, it is risk-free and also benefits overall health in addition to helping with menopause symptoms. Fundamentally, techniques for stress reduction. such as yoga or meditation, combined with regular exercise and an improved diet. can be a great natural menopause treatment. Diet in particular is key. Studies have shown that diets rich in foods that boost estrogen levels – such as soy, apples, alfalfa, cherries, potatoes, rice, wheat, and yams – are great menopause treatments. These foods contain compounds that resemble estrogen, so they mimic the function of estrogen in the body.

Other lifestyle changes a woman can make depend on the specific symptoms she is experiencing, though all of the above tips are good starting points to promote overall wellness. Some changes in habit, however, can be hard to implement, and not all lifestyle modifications directly address hormonal imbalance. Alternative medicine can help balance hormone levels safely and naturally.

    2. Alternative Medicine

Many alternative treatments are proposed for menopause symptoms – such as aromatherapy, therapeutic massage, and biofeedback – but they range in effectiveness and cost. Of the varied alternative treatments, the only type that can address menopausal hormone imbalance directly is certain herbal supplements. They are also simpler to keep up with and require less time and money commitment.

Two types of herbal supplements are relevant in treating menopause symptoms: phytoestrogen and hormone-regulating supplements.

    Phytoestrogenic supplements

These herbs, such as black cohosh, are rich in plant compounds that resemble estrogen and can function like the hormone in the body. However, after an extended period of time, the body can grow accustomed to having outside estrogen and will make less of its own, potentially leading to a net decline in estrogen levels.

    Hormone-regulating supplements

These supplements, such as Macafem, don’t contain any estrogen, but rather provide nourishment to the endocrine glands. This helps the body produce estrogen, progesterone, and other hormones at balanced levels the body needs. This is a safe and effective way of balancing hormone levels.

From “Nature and Health Magazine,” Dr. Chacon says:

“Macafem nutrients help restore natural hormones in women. Unlike hormone drugs, which are basically resumed in taking synthetic hormones, Macafem acts totally different in your body. It nourishes and stimulates your own natural hormone production by inducing the optimal functioning of the endocrine glands.” Click on the following link if you want to read and learn more about Macafem .

Often, a combination of the above approaches is an effective and holistic route to take for most menopause symptoms. In some cases, though, symptoms may be severe or they may not respond to lifestyle changes and herbal supplements. In such cases, medication or surgery may be required, though these interventions inherently carry more risk.

    3. Medications

Medications and sometimes even surgery for menopause symptoms often present the risk of side effects and tend to me more expensive than other approaches. The most common way to treat hot flashes and other menopause symptoms has been hormone replacement therapy. While it is very effective for certain symptoms, like hot flashes and vaginal dryness, it may not alleviate all menopause symptoms. Additionally, it may increase the risk of some serious diseases, as revealed in the following clinical study.

In 1991, the National Institutes of Health began the Women’s Health Initiative, the largest clinical trial ever performed in the U.S. The aim of the study was to answer questions about the risks and benefits of HRT. However, the trial was cut short in 2002 after the data showed that synthetic hormones can increase a woman’s risk of blood clots and stroke, as well as breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The results were subsequently published in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association .

    Other medical treatments

Other medications for menopause symptoms are tailored to specific symptoms. One of the more widely-used therapies is antidepressants, which may help relieve hot flashes, depression, and severe mood swings. Surgery may also be necessary in some cases of severe symptoms, such as the removal of uterine fibroids that are causing irregular bleeding. It is necessary to consult a physician for a full diagnosis and for information on the risks and benefits of different treatments in each individual case.

Nowadays, many women are finding relief from their menopause symptoms using a combination of lifestyle changes and alternative treatments without the need for medications.

A Safe Way of Treating Menopause Symptoms

    Making lifestyle changes:

    • Consuming estrogen-boosting foods
    • Exercising regularly
    • Getting adequate sleep
