    Nursing

Nurses are often at the top of national surveys as the most trusted of professionals. As patient care evolves and becomes more complex, higher educational levels are needed to prepare nurses for leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and specialized knowledge in every area of nursing. Midland University’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing prepares students both for entry into this dynamic and exciting career, and for continued success and advancement.

Students at Midland University can expect to receive a balanced blend of liberal arts courses designed to enhance the science and clinical practicum courses of the nursing program. Social studies courses help the student recognize and appreciate diversity in the patient population, ethics courses provide a platform for development of strong decision making skills based on Christian principles, and arts and other elective courses complete the “whole person” picture.

Clinical training begins in the sophomore year and throughout the entire program, faculty coaches work with students using the best technological tools available to prepare nursing graduates to successfully complete the NCLEX nursing licensure exam.

At Midland, students seeking a traditional BSN complete their program with a focus on patient centered care in a variety of health care settings. The curriculum balances general and professional education with course options in the humanities, the physical and life sciences and social and behavioral sciences. Nursing courses prepare the graduate for professional practice in a variety of health care settings, provide a foundation for graduate study in nursing, and promote life-long learning and growth toward maturity as individuals, professionals and citizens.

The LPN to BSN option has been established to meet the needs of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) interested in a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Midland recognizes previous college credit from accredited institutions and accepts transfer credit to meet graduation requirements.

Midland’s RN to BSN option is designed to offer the registered nurse a seamless transition into a bachelor’s degree. This online degree program prepares graduates to respond to evolving health care needs in a variety of settings. Courses are six- to eight-weeks. If all prerequisites are met prior to starting the program, full time students can complete in as little as 12-months.

Midland University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the Nursing Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Nebraska State Board of Nursing. Learn more here .

    College of Information and Communications

    Posted May 23, 2017
Story and photos by Lauren Crank, reprinted from InterCom

When Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook in 2004, his target audience was the collegiate community; you needed a university email account to even create a pro le. Now, in part due to Zuckerberg’s innovations, social media is all around us. Every person you meet can send you toward their Instagram, brands are reaching directly to their consumers through platforms, and social media skills are a must for anyone working in business. What is the University of South Carolina doing to keep up with the ever-changing world of social media?

Internally, USC and the School of Journalism and Mass Communications are making strides to ensure that today’s graduates are prepared for a world in which “proficient in social media” is a job requirement. “We incorporate social media into many of our classes because it’s really a part of everything now, but we felt that we needed a class that focused on social media and strategy,” Dr. Andrea Tanner. SJMC director, said.

That class, “Social Media: Objectives, Strategies, and Tactics,” is taught by Ernie Grigg and Christopher Huebner. “Too many students tell me that their internship put them in charge of social media, and they had to learn the relevant skills on the fly. Students need proper preparation — grounded in strategic communication best practices — to help them succeed in the workplace,” said Grigg.

Although enrolling in the course could certainly give current students an advantage, the university’s entire curriculum ensures that social media is something that students know well. Additionally, student involvement is high on personal social media channels, most notably in the “big four” platforms most used by brands: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Her summer brain child, the “Millennial Slang” video featuring university professors trying to decode the most recent set of student phrases, such as “shade” and “bae,” won an American Advertising Award (ADDY) after it went viral across all platforms.

When the men’s basketball team beat Duke and advanced to the NCAA playoff ’s “Sweet 16,” UofSC’s tweets garnered 2,636,290 organic impressions within 24 hours, and were featured in the AP and People Magazine.

Lake believes it’s important for the university to be socially active. “It’s where our target audience is,” said Lake, “it’s where our new customers and prospective students spend a lot of time. Prospective students are more likely to trust a first-person point of view over an informational brochure.”

That target audience varies from platform to platform, but Lake’s goal is to appeal to prospective students with every post. “That means fewer press releases on our pages, fewer educational announcements, and more “slices of life” for an everyday Carolina student,” she said.

Both Lake and Dr. Tanner foresee social media making a lasting impression on the communications field, and are working to ensure that the university and its students are prepared for what’s to come. From live streaming commencement stories to covering the latest sporting event with a pair of Snapchat Spectacles, CJ Lake is keeping up with social trends at a rate that may put USC at the top of higher education’s social media game. “I know the future of social media at the university is bright,” said Lake, “I don’t think it’ll ever be a science, but being able to identify moments to create meaningful interactions between our brand and our audience will absolutely translate into a successful, sustainable program.”

About Scholarships – University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid #university

    About Scholarships

Scholarships are gift funds that are awarded to students based on criteria set by the donor or sponsoring organization. Examples include: academic merit; special talents, interests, or qualities; and financial need. Here are types and sources of scholarships that are typically awarded to eligible University of Michigan students, along with links to sources of more detailed information.

When you are admitted to U-M, you are automatically considered for most scholarships administered by the Office of Financial Aid and for many in Schools and Colleges. The University uses the My Scholarship Profile system in Wolverine Access to review student information, so be sure to update your information there. More about My Scholarship Profile

If you want to be considered for need-based scholarships, you should also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and, for entering students, a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.

U-M OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID SCHOLARSHIPS

The U-M Office of Financial Aid administers a variety of scholarship programs that recognize superior academic achievement, leadership qualities, and potential to contribute to the scholarly community of the university. Some are awarded based partly on financial need and others reflect the university’s commitment to achieving a diverse student body.

Scholarships administered by the U-M Office of Financial Aid are listed on the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing page. Most are awarded automatically to eligible students upon admission, and no application is required beyond the application for admission. Those requiring an additional application are highlighted. To be considered for need-based scholarships, you must also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE .

In general, equal consideration for scholarships is given to eligible students who:

    • have been admitted to U-M by February 1 (note that a few scholarships have different deadlines), and
    • have applied for financial aid by April 30 (to be considered for need-based scholarships).

Graduate Students: The Office of Financial Aid administers only a few scholarships for graduate students (see the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing ). The main sources of U-M graduate student scholarship/fellowship opportunities are your U-M school, college, or department (see below) and the Rackham Graduate School . You may also find non-university (private) scholarship opportunities for graduate students on our Private Scholarships page. If you plan to study abroad, the U-M International Institute lists a number of funding opportunities for graduate and professional school students..

Stanford Executive MBA Information and Resources

For those looking to get ahead in the world of business, there isn t any other single act that is likely to have as much of a positive impact as an EMBA from Stanford or from one of the other top US schools. Designed specifically for executives with real world experience, the EMBA program dispenses with the basics and dives into the topics that business executives need to deal with today. You ll get a world-class education in less time than typical Masters programs in large part because of your existing experience

The first step is deciding just what Executive MBA program to take. If you re looking at Stanford, you re probably also looking at some of the other well-known schools too. That s smart. But we re confident that after a little research you will, like many others before you, decide that Stanford s program is the best choice.

And we re here to help with information and resources to help you navigate the seemingly maze-like Executive MBA process. We know you re busy so let s get started!

    Step 1
It might sound odd, but the first step is to update your resume. We ll use this to assess your skills and other credentials. From this we ll be able to determine your eligibility and also let you know if you need to complete the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).

    Step 2
As you move into the application process, we ll assign you an Executive MBA Admissions Counsellor. This person will guide you and your organization through the entire process ensuring that nothing is missed and that you proceed in the most efficient manner possible.

    Step 3
Other documents may be requested, but we at Stanford will need you to gather the following as a minimum:

    • The completed application form.
    • Two references including one from your current supervisor.
    • An endorsement letter from your employer.
    • Copies of your official transcripts.

    Purpose of Program

This program is designed for students who want to work with children and adolescents experiencing a wide range of academic, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Common roles and functions of the School Psychologist include psychological assessment, counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, research, and program evaluation. School Psychologists work with students, their families, and school staff in order to help students be as successful as possible in school. The program is designed to provide students the academic and practical training necessary to become licensed as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Graduates are eligible to apply for certification as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, which is a nationally-recognized professional certification granted by the National Association of School Psychologists.

    Program Options

The National Association of School Psychologists and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists both require master’s and specialist-level programs in School Psychology to include at least 60 hours of coursework, including practicum and internship. These entities also provide very specific courses and domains of competence that must be reflected in the curriculum. The degree requirements and curriculum reflect these standards, which will facilitate the professional accreditation of the program and the licensure of our graduates. The requirements also are consistent with those of other School Psychology programs within the state.

The Master of Arts in School Psychology is a 66-hour program, and typically requires three to four years to complete. The program includes coursework and field-based experiences related to psychological assessment, intervention, learning, child development, psychopathology, research, statistics, and professional issues. Students also complete a full-time internship in a school setting. Due to the clinical nature of this program and number of hours required, the degree does not have a Thesis option.

    Career Opportunities

School Psychology has been identified by the U.S. Department of Labor as a specialization that is likely to have faster than average employment growth. In addition, Texas has been identified as a state that will encounter one of the most serious shortages of School Psychologists in the near future. Thus, the job prospects for School Psychologists are very favorable. Minority and bilingual school psychologists are especially needed given the increasing diversity of public schools.

    Job Outlook/Earnings

Kent State University president responds to Michigan Republican’s ‘abhorrent’ tweet: Ohio Politics Roundup

Updated on February 6, 2017 at 10:05 AM Posted on February 6, 2017 at 6:20 AM

Kent State leader outlines college’s rebranding effort Agency to help craft new, bolder image

Kent State University President Beverly Warren responded to a tweet from an obscure Michigan County GOP official over the weekend. (Marvin Fong, The Plain Dealer)

The Internet has a way of bringing people together in ways you’d never expect. Over the weekend, Kent State University President Beverly Warren had occasion to forcefully respond to what she deemed “abhorrent” statements from an obscure Michigan Republican Party official. Read more in today’s Ohio Politics Roundup, brought to you today by Andrew J. Tobias.

The backstory: On Thursday, Marquette County Republican Party secretary Dan Adamini fired off a couple social media posts, according to MLive’s Benjamin Raven :

One of them, posted to Twitter: “Violent protesters who shut down free speech? Time for another Kent State perhaps. One bullet stops a lot of thuggery.”

The posts attracted media and social media attention after they caught the attention of the Michigan Democratic Party. As a quick reminder, four KSU students were killed and nine wounded on May 4, 1970 after an Ohio National Guard unit opened fire on an anti-Vietnam War protest.

Where’s Marquette County? It’s in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, bordering Lake Superior. It has 67,000 people, and is home to Northern Michigan University and the Superior Dome. allegedly the world’s largest wooden dome.

Kent State responds: “ This is an abhorrent and painful use of our tragedy and has no place in healing the divide in America. We will respond,” Warren wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning .

This is an abhorrent and painful use of our tragedy and has no place in healing the divide in America. We will respond https://t.co/mTpc0Tjqzx

In a subsequent statement, the university said Adamini’s post “is in poor taste and trivializes a loss of life that still pains the Kent State community today.”

Adamini responds: After deleting the posts, he posted on Twitter: “Taking a lot of heat for a very poorly worded tweet yesterday. Sorry folks, the intent was to try to stop the violence, not encourage more.”

Cleveland Clinic doctor still in limbo: “A Sudanese Cleveland Clinic doctor is still not able to return to the U.S. even though a federal appeals court has continued a temporary restraining order against the Trump administration’s travel ban,” writes cleveland.com’s Jane Morice.

That’s because Dr. Suha Abushamma, a 26-year-old internal medicine resident at the Clinic who is a Sudanese citizen, surrendered her work visa while she was detained at a New York City airport while trying to return from Saudi Arabia.

Abushamma has sued, saying she was coerced into signing the forms.

For your radar: Abushamma’s case could end up being the center of a broad challenge to Trump’s immigration order, writes the New York Times’ Adam Alan Feuer .

Have you Herd? Ohio Sens. Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown have recommended a new U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, cleveland.com’s Eric Heisig writes .

The man of the hour is Justin Herdman, a 41 year-old partner at the Jones Day law firm, U.S. Air Force judge’s advocate, and former assistant U.S. attorney.

Herdman would replace current U.S. Attorney Carole Rendon, who was appointed by President Barack Obama.

The upshot? “One could set the stage for a potential end to Richard Cordray’s job as the top consumer-finance cop. Although that outcome is not certain, the White House did not rule it or any other changes out.”

Cordray, a former Ohio attorney general, is on the A-list of potential Democratic gubernatorial candidates in 2018. He is barred from engaging in politics while holding his role as director of the U.S. Consumer Protection Financial Bureau. However, if Trump were to successfully can him, Cordray would be free to return to the Ohio political scene (and as cleveland.com’s Henry J. Gomez previously has written, he would have a potentially potent campaign story to tell .)

Immigration protests: Hundreds of people marched through downtown Cleveland on Friday in opposition to Trump’s executive order, cleveland.com’s Courntey Astolfi writes

“The protest began at 4 p.m. in Ohio City’s Market Square and made its way across the Detroit-Superior Bridge. Marchers stopped at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse before reaching their final destination of Cleveland City Hall, where organizers spoke out against Trump’s immigration order and called for Cleveland to become a sanctuary city.”

Hope this helps: Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s budget includes a consolation prize for public transit agencies that stand to lose a significant amount of funding as a result of a change in how the state will tax managed care organizations administering Medicaid plans, cleveland.com’s Jackie Borchardt writes .

One agency, Greater Cleveland RTA will get $20 million to help cope, part of an overall $207 million state package for transit agencies affected by the change.

Kirt Conrad, president of the Ohio Public Transit Association, said the one-time aid is helpful but transit authorities were facing budget crunches before the tax was eliminated.

DeVos might have little impact on Ohio education policy: “ Despite all the furor over Betsy DeVos. Trump’s nominee to be U.S. secretary of education, she might make less of a difference for Ohio schools than you think,” writes The Plain Dealer’s Patrick O’Donnell .

That’s because Ohio already embraces charter schools, for which DeVos is a major advocate.

O’Donnell quotes State Rep. Andrew Brenner, a top Ohio Republican on education issues: “”I can see her pushing even more power back to the states,” Brenner said.”

Husted works the rubber-chicken circuit: Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted spoke to the Canton Rotary Club on Friday. The Canton Repository’s Robert Wang has all the juicy details.

Predictably, Husted would not rule out that he’s running for governor in 2018.

“The election for governor is well over 18 months away. But I am very interested in serving the people of Ohio. And I will announce those plans sometime in the future,” Husted said.

    #

    Criminal Justice Major

Students completing the major in Criminal Justice are instructed on the theories and practices pertaining to the criminal justice system, crime, prevention, and public and corporate responses to criminal behaviors on the local, national, and international level. This course of study leads them to function in an increasingly complex, confrontational, and violent world.

“Don’t think because you are majoring in Criminal Justice that your opportunities are limited to the field. The material you will be taught and the skills you will hone do much for your overall development as a thinking and contributing member of society—I was exposed to many different fields while completing the major and all have given me a unique and fresh perspective on the world. Pick Criminal Justice because it intrigues you, not because you are looking for a specific job: you can go to graduate school for that.”

The major is structured into three general sections with a completion of a minimum of 36 credits: General Coursework (which consists of 6 courses), Thematic Coursework (which consists of 3 courses), and Elective Coursework (which consists of 3 courses). All students interested in declaring a major in Criminal Justice must first complete Introduction to Criminal Justice (01:202:201); furthermore, in order to declare a major in Criminal Justice, students are required to earn a grade of “C” or better and have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Similarly, only courses that earn a grade of “C” or better will be counted toward the major.

In order to declare your major, first please visit this School of Arts and Sciences website to find tips and advice about choosing both your major(s) and minor(s). When you are ready to declare, visit the MyMajor portal to log in with your Net ID and password.

Students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to meet with the advising staff on a regular basis when selecting courses so that we can help you create an academic course of study which will best match your post-baccalaureate plans and most prepare you for the advanced training you will need in your respective career field within criminal justice. In order to schedule an appointment with the advising staff, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Students can download a copy of the major and its required components here. and use it as a checklist to chart your progress.

The GENERAL COURSEWORK section includes the mandatory completion of the following courses:

    1. Introduction to Criminal Justice (01:202:201)
    2. Criminology (01:920:222)
    3. Police (01:202:202)
    4. Prisons and Prisoners (01:202:203)
    5. Any ONE of the following courses:
      1. Crime and Public Policy (01:202:204) OR
      2. Criminal Procedure (01:202:205)
      3. OR Law and Politics (01:790:106)
    6. Any ONE of the following research methods courses:
      1. Criminal Justice Research Methods (01:202:307) OR
      2. Introduction to Political Science Methods (01:790:300) OR
      3. Quantitative Methods in Psychology (01:830:200) OR
      4. Introduction to Social Research (01:920:311) OR
      5. Computer Analysis of Social Science Data (01:920:312) OR
      6. Statistics I (01:960:211)* OR
      7. Introductory Statistics for Business (01:960:285)

The General Coursework section involves the completion of Intro. to Criminal Justice first and foremost. Students take Criminology, which is offered through the Sociology department. The Program centers upon the three areas of criminal justice: law enforcement, courts, and corrections. This is why students must complete Police (law enforcement), Prisons and Prisoners (corrections), and either Crime and Public Policy or Criminal Procedure or Law and Politics (courts). Any student entering the field of criminal justice will need to draw upon a background in research and research methods of some kind, which is why students are also required to complete a research methods course; furthermore, these courses serve as a prerequisite for some of the upper-level elective courses.

*Please be advised that according to the policies of the Statistics department, you can only earn credit for one of the following statistics courses: 01:960:211, 01:960:212, 01:960:285, 01:960:384, 01:960:401, 01:960:484.

The THEMATIC COURSEWORK section includes the mandatory completion of three total courses. All of the courses that can be used to satisfy the Thematic requirements are from outside departments. (N.B. Students need to be careful that they have the necessary prerequisites for courses they are considering taking.) These courses are from such departments as Political Science, History, Sociology, Psychology, etc. If you find a course not on the approved list of Thematic courses, please reach out to the Academic Advisor before you register for the course in order to see if you could add it to the list of Thematics: be sure to include the course information, as well as a copy of the course description and syllabus.

The list of approved Thematic courses are grouped into three thematic areas: Human Behavior, Deviance, and Crime (HBDC); Social Control Institutions (SCI); and Law and Ethics (LE). Students are required to complete two of their three Thematic course requirements from at least two different thematic areas.

Theme: Human Behavior, Deviance, and Crime (HBDC)

    01:014:318 Bigotry, Prejudice, and Racism

    01:050:324 Wayward Americans

    01:070:310 Human Aggression

BYU grad students ranked high in top law and business school

    #

BYU grad students ranked high in top law and business school categories by Princeton review

In preparation for an anticipated flood of college graduates, the Princeton Review published “The Best 168 Law Schools” and “The Best 296 Business Schools” on Tuesday, each with 11 different ranked categories.

Two Brigham Young University graduate programs ranked near the top of those lists.

The Marriott School of Management ranked second for most family friendly business school, while the J. Reuben Clark Law School was third in two law-school categories — most competitive students and most conservative students.

The University of Utah was also profiled in each book as being among the best law schools and business schools, though it was not on any of “Top 10” lists. Additionally, Weber State University was profiled among top business schools.

“All of the rankings in both books are based completely on student survey,” Rob Franek, senior vice president and publisher for the Princeton Review, said. “It is the opinion of students at BYU, and the other hundreds of schools.”

BYU has been a consistent top-runner among the best law and business colleges in the United States, Franek said, and those graduate schools are amongst the most powerful in the nation.

The BYU business school has made the top five family friendly list for years.

“It’s a ranking we’re certainly proud of,” said Robert Gardner, director of Alumni Relations. “It’s not one we are necessarily surprised by. It’s one we’ve always ranked well in with our family culture here. We love that ranking and we expect it to continue in that way.”

Among the MBA class that will graduate in April, 76 percent are married, up from 64 in the previous class. The percentage of married students in the MBA program is usually somewhere in the mid-to-upper 60-percent range, Gardner said, so this is a high year.

The survey questions for the family friendly category pertain to the happiness of married students, the number of kids students have and the help the school gives to students’ spouses and children.

“We have an active MBA spouse association that makes sure spouses are well-networked and well-supported,” Gardner said. “Last month they had a family barbecue at a park near campus. They set up regular meetings. It’s activities like those that really make a difference.”

The law school has consistently ranked high on the most-competitive and most-conservative lists, sitting in the top four on each since 2008.

For the most-conservative students category, known in past years as “students lean to the right,” surveyed students were asked if there was a prevailing political bent at the school and how they would categorize themselves, Franek said.

The answers students can choose from are: very liberal, liberal, middle of the road, somewhat conservative and very conservative.

“We ask students in 368 law schools and compare school to school,” Franek said. “Compared to other schools BYU has consistently been on this list.”

For the competitive category, students are asked about the number of hours they study outside class, hours of sleep they get nightly and the number of hours they believe their peers in the school study outside class.

“It is partially about their experience and partially their perception of others,” Franek said. “It speaks directly to their academic experience.”

On average, 107 students at each law school and 64 students at each business school were surveyed for the lists in the books’ 2013 editions. The survey is annual and students can fill it out throughout the school year at princetonreview.com .

    TESTIMONIALS

“English was one of the subjects I was weak in, but from the help of my teacher, Ms Jaslene, I am doing it pretty well in Bukit Merah Secondary School now. I got B3 for English and earned a place of 12/36 in my current class. I am the Chairman of the class and has been recently picked to be a prefect! At Coleman College, my teacher has always taught us to be responsible for our own actions and to look before we jump and this has helped me in my building of my character. I have no issue with my studies as Coleman College had prepared me well for it during my course there. I am also glad that my other peers at Coleman College had also passed their AEIS/SAEIS and are in the government school now just like me. I have been really grateful that my teacher, Ms Jaslene, who did not give up on me when I failed my first AEIS. Instead, she gave me a PUSH and now I am in the express stream (Sec 1E)! She took time to help me whenever I needed help. Thank you teacher. Now that I can prove those who said I could not make it to the government school, wrong. Teacher always emphasizes “When there is a will, there is a way”. “

    Debbie Muljadi

“I really appreciate the effort that teacher has spent on Sec 2 class. She can skip her lunch or rest time to devote enough time for the class in particular and the school in general. Although ‘Experience is the best teacher’, one still needs a real guide to teach and guide him to the right way.”

    Sophie Nguyen Thanh Thuy

“Miss Siew is kind, funny person. She teaches the subject clearly and easy to understand. She uses many ways to make me to memorize the words better.”

    Piamkuntham Salisa

“To Ms Jaslene, thank you for teaching me everything and wish you all the best and Happy Chinese New Year! Now I’m very good at English. I have no problem with English in the government school. All the things I’ve learnt here helped me a lot.”

    Cecillia Yue Yihan

“In the past one year, I have been doing consistently well, and I have cleared all my subjects, including English. This year, I am taking my GCE ‘O’ levels. I wish I could score and get into a good junior college.”

*SART 2014; Final live birth per patient for women under 35 include all non-banking autologous cycles and banking cycles with a thaw within 12 months of banking, representing outcomes for patients who were new to a given clinic in 2014, with births realized in 2014 and 2015.

Please note: a comparison of clinic success rates may not be meaningful because a patient’s medical characteristics, treatment approaches and entrance criteria for assisted reproductive technology (ART) may vary from clinic to clinic.

According to the latest publication by the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), RMANJ once again is leading the way in the number of IVF cycles resulting in live births. Embry-Riddle and Temple top U.S. News online college rankings

For the second straight year, a private university specializing in aviation and aerospace has claimed the top spot in the U.S. News and World Report list of online bachelor’s degree programs.

Just behind Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide in the rankings released Tuesday are several large public universities seeking to use technology to expand their market profile.

Temple University, the University of Oklahoma, Arizona State University and Western Kentucky University, in that order, round out the top five in the latest U.S. News analysis.

Temple and Arizona State also fared well on another U.S. News ranking: Temple, which is in Philadelphia, ranked first for the third straight year in the magazine’s analysis of online programs for master’s degrees in business administration. Arizona State ranked fifth, tied with the University of Florida.

“Online learning is relatively new but growing in popularity because of the flexibility it offers,” Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News, said in a statement. “We developed the Best Online Programs rankings to provide students with the tools to identify programs that offer top faculty, positive student engagement and generous support services — all of which are key to productive online learning.”

The online market for higher education is large and fluid. It encompasses degree programs at public, private and for-profit schools as well as what are known as massive open online courses, or MOOCs, that students can take for free without earning credit.

Consumers often turn to lists to navigate such complicated markets. But exactly how to rank online programs is a matter of debate. Online students run the gamut from those who are young and taking college courses for the first time, to working adults who might have some credits or relevant professional experience and are seeking to complete a degree. Some online programs mix in a few in-person sessions, and some don’t. Federal data on graduation rates tends to focus on first-time students, not those who are returning to school.

One of the largest online schools, the public University of Maryland University College, said in 2016 that it does not participate in the U.S. News online rankings because it disagrees with the magazine’s methodology.

U.S. News said it ranked 311 online bachelor’s programs, using factors such as graduation and retention rates, class size, faculty credentials, participation in best practices, student debt and scores on reputational surveys. Here are this year’s top 20.

    1. Embry-Riddle

    Carlow University Graduate Program Reviews

    Graduation Year: 2017

Carlow has a rich tradition of excellence with a warm, friendly atmosphere. The doctoral program is perfect for scholar-clinical practitioners. Superior quality of education with phenomenal faculty. Exceptional challenge-and the open, inclusive cohorts and experienced faculty make the whole Carlow experience the best in Pittsburgh! No 25-year old teachers who fill in for real professors and no revolving door turnover among faculty. Most brilliant people I’ve ever met. I love Carlow!

    Graduation Year: 2017

I enjoy how accessable and inclusive the professors are at Carlow. Every theoretical and philosophical viewpoint is considered and allowed to be used and debated to create well rounded students who are capable and effective clinicians. I feel very supported by Carlow’s professors and by the school. I highly recommend Carlow!

“A friend who is a maven in finding outstanding resources, recommended Janice and Custom College Visits as we began the daunting college selection process. We worked with Janice on two fronts; to help create a list of colleges and to set-up meaningful colleges visits. The college visits were also a lot of fun for us as a family and very informative on so many levels. More importantly Janice helped make the college selection process manageable, not so daunting after all, and we felt no stone was left unturned in this important decision.

Tracy P. Parent of a New York City high school Senior

Thank you so much for planning such a wondrous experience for our son. The careful attention to detail was evident at every turn. Custom College Visits planning effort provided an appropriate path of discovery for our son and for us.

Michael C. New Jersey parent of a high school Junior

Hi Janice, Our trip was a thoroughly enjoyable family adventure! Thank you so much for the unique opportunities that you created for our daughter at each college. Meeting with a student at Harvard, was probably the most informative way to start the entire trip. She devoted a lot of time (in the rain) providing real college life details. She swiped us into dining halls, dorms & buildings that we might not have seen otherwise. The sophomore session at Princeton was wonderful! Thank you so much for everything that you did! We really were able to get the most out of each campus visit! Best, Julie

Julie, Parent of a high school Junior in Southern California

I found working with Custom College Visits a very positive experience. They were able to pinpoint colleges that were best suited for my daughter and the travel plans were well organized. In addition, they were able to set up an interview with a member of a college color guard, as my daughter had expressed interest in going to a school that had a color guard. I am very pleased with my experience with Custom College Visits, and would recommend them highly.

Mark L. Parent of high school junior in Northern California

Lili got accepted into her first choice school today (early decision): Boston University! She is thrilled beyond belief and relieved as well. We could not have done it without your help, it was invaluable. I think the High School Honors program she did there was probably very helpful and we would not have know about it without your forwarding the information to us. You rock! So, I am tipping my hat today to both you and Lili!

Kim T. Parent of high school senior in Kansas

I am happy to tell you that Nivi has been accepted early decision to Brown University. She is the first ivy leaguer in our family and we couldn’t be more proud! Her decision to apply was made easier because of the excellent experience she had during her customized tour via your company so thank you so much! We will be sure to recommend you to our friends here..

Gayathri S. Parent of high school senior Chennai, India

Thank you again for being so good at what you do. Our trip to the US was a huge success. I was on the verge of cancelling the trip but knew I couldn’t let my son down. That I even found you on the internet was a direct answer to my prayer for a miracle. The itinerary worked very well. I knew I was in good hands even before I boarded the plane to the U.S. and your attention to detail far exceeded my expectation.

Egbe O. Parent of international high school student

We had a wonderful trip to Philadelphia and Boston thanks to Janice Caine of Custom College Visits. She worked out an itinerary from start to finish. We visited 9 schools and it was as smooth as possible. Janice worked out tours and information sessions as well as meetings with tennis coaches. We have boy/girl twins and both were happy which is not an easy achievement. Not only did Janice work out the schedule but she recommended great schools in both towns. We would highly recommend her.

Phil S. Parent of high school students SF Bay Area

“Thank you SO MUCH for your involvement in the Splash Parents’ Program this weekend! I am just reviewing the feedback forms, and your presentation received rave reviews across the board; many parents cited it as the highlight of the program for them! Some verbatim quotes include: ‘The Planning and Preparing for College Visits was a great eye opener;’ Thank you for all the effort, energy, and enthusiasm you put into making the event such a success.”

Marisa M. Coordinator, Splash Parents’ Program Stanford University

Our college process was two-fold. It began with getting a jump start on the standardized testing, and not waiting until spring of junior year to focus. I believe our outcome was successful because we had a well-managed plan helped along by an expert, Janice Caine, of Custom College Visits.

Lisa L. Parent of high school students SF Bay Area

Happy New Year! Wanted to let you know that Charlie was accepted to Johns Hopkins Early Decision! Great news and very exciting all around. Thank you for all your help.

Beth A. Parent of a high school senior. Massachusetts

    Welcome to the Counseling Center

    END OF THE SEMESTER SESSIONS

Each semester, when the Counseling Center has no more capacity to add new clients seeking ongoing counseling, we replace initial consultations (ICONs) with one-time sessions for the remainder of the semester. As of Monday, July 31 st the Counseling Center will begin offering one-time sessions. These one-time sessions are an hour in length and focus on problem solving more immediate issues. If students are in need of further services, we will help them connect with additional resources outside of the Counseling Center.

Counseling Center services are free, confidential, and provided by trained professionals to currently enrolled Texas State students while classes are in session.

Counseling Center Services include brief individual, group, and couples counseling, consultation and crisis response, and workshops about coping with stress and other mental health topics.

Individual counseling is also available on a limited basis at the Round Rock campus. Click here for details.
